I was thinking, there's probably a zero chance they're going
to take a wide receiver. They just signed JSN to

then I said to myself, Greg, I'm trying to get
into the head of John Steiner and predict what he's
gonna do on a draft weekend. And I don't know, Greg,
that just doesn't seem like a good call on my
part because the second we said they're never going to
take a wide receiver, they take a wide receiver, or
Cooper Cup retires or whatever ends up happening before I
get into this year's receiver class. Let me go down

this road with you for a second, Greg Gosell, Jackson
Smith and Jigba just became, at least for today, the
highest paid receiver in the National Football League. What is
it about Jackson Smith and Jigma that you've seen over
the last few years that translates so well to the NFL.

I know, Well, listen, here's the thing. Come on, my analysis,

and Jigba is really good.

Well, you know, funny, I remember watching him coming out
of Ohio State. Of course, he didn't play his last year.
I think he got hurt and only played, you know,
a very small number of snaps. But the one thing
that really stood out at Ohio State, and of course
it translates very very well to the league, is just
outstanding route quickness and separation quickness. And one of the

things any wide receiver coach that you talked to will
tell you that the separation quickness is critical. And you know,
there's there's very few of the athletic testing measurables at
the combine that really mean a lot when you look
about you talk about translating them to the league, you know,
and actually playing football on Sundays. And one of the

things that really stood out two things. His short shuttle time,
which is the twenty yard shuttle was three point nine
to three. And I know for people listening that might
not mean a lot, but it is unbelievable to be
under four the twenty yard shuttle is just incredible quickness
and the ability to change direction, and he can do

that exceptionally well. The other thing that I think he
does really really well given how many inbreaking routes they run.
Is I think he works through traffic extremely well. And
when I say that, I don't mean he you know,
has to knock people down or he just has a
great feel for understanding how to avoid traffic and stay

on his route path without any disruption at all, and
therefore it doesn't disrupt the timing of the past game
and the throw to him. But it's just to me,
it's the separation quickness and the route quickness that really
really stand out. And you know the thing about players
like that is, and don't forget he's bigger than people
might think. He's almost six', one you, KNOW i think

when you think Of smith And, jigbe you, think, oh,
short quick. Guy he's almost six,' one and that's, you
know he's not a. Little guy and because he understands
rout run, so well he is a. Vertical player even
though he's not a four to three. Five guy you
know he can win vertically because he knows how to,
attack corners how to attack, their leverage how to attack their,

this year more than eighty percent of his snaps he lined.

twenty one he was almost exclusively a. Slot receiver so

a lot of people, thought, that hey when he transitions to,
the league he's a. Slot receiver the same, thing happened by,
the Way With. Justin Jefferson but Smith and jigba has
proven as he did a, year ago And Obviously john
schneider and staff truly believe that he could line up
outside or they wouldn't Have Signed. Cooper cup and he
showed that he could do that with no. Problem whatsoever

so you're dealing with a very versatile player who theoretically
can line up anywhere you put him and be a really. Effective,
player normally guys at receiver who really master the position
in terms of the nuances of rowd running and the
details of it can pretty much line.

and how they're deployed AT the, nfl level some of

these guys will end up being volume targets in. The
league but in terms of just analyzing, their traits no
one is at the level you know Of The, jamar
chase WHO was i believe the sixth pick in a
draft and his college tape was. Just ridiculous cornell takes
a fascinating guy. To me i'm sure a lot of
people are aware by now that he did not run
well at. The combine he ran a four or five.

To three he was a vertical player this past Year At,
ohio state caught a lot of long passes, for touchdowns
so the, you know one of THE questions i had,
watching him and EVEN before i knew what his forty,

YOU know i thought he looked quicker and faster in

have to attack corners and then be able to win

at the top of your, route stem and so you
have to understand how corners play you and attack. Their
technique you, know again another guy that, TO me i
don't think of him as sort of THAT, boundary x
that single receiver to the short side of, the field.
You know, TO me I think i see him as
more of A, movement x a slot type receiver you

can deploy him with pre. Snap movement not a strong
run after catch element to, his game but a solid,
route runner pretty, good size you, know again another GUY
that i think in the, right offense, YOU know i
think of Someone Like, rashe rice and obviously he's been
injured and has. Other issues But When rashee rice, is
healthy he was a volume target In the. Chiefs offense

to vertically run. By people, you know just, really solid
good receivers that can catch a lot.
