Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Monday, then that means one thing.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's time to mollywop uncensored, unscripted and filled with the
passion that all Mariners fans can relate to, and brought
to you by the company that's all about Seattle Sports,
Simply Seattle. Visit simply Seattle dot com for the best
Mariners gear. Now with the Mollywop boys, Nathan Bishop and
Chris Crawford with my Oh why here's Ian Furness.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
All right, yes, here we go a whopping on a Monday, uh,
like we always do. It's all brought to by Simply
sattlesimplyattl dot com. As far as I know, we're all good.
You know what's surprising all the sales staffs here. I
follows those guys. I would have said peace out too.
I'd be like, oh no, not good. But they're working
from home. Yeah, I can work for home. These guys
are working from home right now. We love it. Chris
Crawford Nathan Bishop are with us, gentlemen. Good to see

(00:48):
your faces. We're on YouTube, but you're not on YouTube?
Is that how that works? That is correct? Okay, until
we get that figure. Your voices are on YouTube, which Yeah,
your voices are on YouTube, which is good, but your
faces yet to be on YouTube. So that's that technology
that's far down the road fell at least. Ye.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yeah, if only there was a company that allowed you
to stream within your yard, that allowed you to do
it very easily.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
If only there was I that would be unbelievable. Of course,
that would also that would also take other technology. Surf.
We're crazy today. I pulled in, I looked outside. There's
like a semi it's parked sideways by on the side
of our building. Apparently that's our generator right now, so
that's we're just happening power in the building. Yes, microwave
work could heat up some leftover is all good? Chris

(01:36):
Craft for Nathan Bishop. Away we go, and I'll just
say his shout out all joking aside with the fire department,
the guy asking me about the murners and and the
you know what, uh sale fire departments. Awesome. I mean
those guys didn't mess around. They I just big shout
out to those guys and anybody who's in that first
responder field man, big fan, We thank you for all
your service. All right, opening statements after a resounding three

(02:00):
over the weekend preceded by not such a resounding three
days before that. Let's go, Nathan Bishop, you get the
first crack out of today. Your thoughts on the week
that was, sir.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
I feel like this is the same thing. This happened
a lot last year, where the team would go out
and play like garbage from Monday through Wednesday, and I'd
get to sharpen my knives and have all this fun
and like do the little cracking of my knuckles and everything,
and then the weekend would come, and man, I was
so ready because right around the time you guys were
dealing with your fire, the bat from each row's statue

(02:31):
was falling off in the middle of it being unveiled.
And I was just so ready to have so much
fun all this weekend. But then the stupid Houston Astros
rolled into town with their nineteen ninety six Mariner's ass
rotation and through three of the worst baseball games I've
ever seen in my life. Here is a I think
Bob Bob Wells is starting the game today. I know

(02:53):
it's getting ready to get caught. Yeah, because that's who
I think they got got.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Mike Schooler is gonna close if need be so he's
in the pen just in case.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
So, yes, Mariner hitters walked twenty six times Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday. The San Francisco Giants have walked thirty three
times all season long, and they weren't even I mean,
the Mariners have some hitters that are are good with
play discipline. JP Crawford obviously being back, that guy's whole
deal is that he knows exactly where the strike zone is.

(03:21):
So many of these walks were non competitive, four pitches
nowhere near the strike zone. It was awful. And I'm
rambling about all that to say, not that the Mariner
zone deserve credit for playing well and winning all three
of these games. But if you look at the American
League right now, yes, the Mariners are seven and nine
and kind of screwing around. This is exactly the kind

(03:42):
of league we thought it was going to be. The
Minnesota Twins started today with the best record in the
American League at nine and seven. The Mirrors are going
to have to work so hard to not win this division.
It's breathtaking to me. The top three highest walk rates
among pitching staffs and baseball right now. Number one is Houston.
Number two is the Angels. Number three is the A's

(04:04):
nobody in this division outside of Seattle and Texas a
little bit can pitch. So I think it's a good
sign for the MS. Man. I just hope they keep
a running today. I've found these Houston games unwatchable, with
the exception of the fact that my god, Houston has
fallen so far.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Which is entering, which is really fun. That's actually really cool.
That's actually we kind of enjoy that part. We really
kind of truly enjoy. Yes, to be honest with you,
all right, Chris fire away, am my friend real quick.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
I'm just seeing on ESPN Crawford found guilty of caroless driving. Fine,
the better click to make sure that's not me. It's
by the way, it's Terrence Crawford. Call the Mariners Illinois
football baby, because they go four and eight pretty much
every season. It is just another slow start, and like

(04:51):
Nathan said, thank God for this series against the Astros
and the fact that this pitching staff for Houston is
just garbage. It is ten pounds of crap in the
five pound bag got one off early. They just I mean,
that is a bad baseball team to watch right now.
Not offensively They've got a lot of guys who can
really hit. The Texas Series was concerning as early as

(05:14):
all of this stuff is. That Texas Series was concerning
because the offense just looked terrible. Josh Naylor still like
his timing his way off, and the bad speed is
considerably down. There were some things to be concerned about,
but it was just nice to see this team play
well over three games and taking advantage of bad pitching,
no question about it. But you got to not swing

(05:35):
the bad at bad pitches, and you gotta take advantage
of some stuff. Really impressed with what I've seen from
Randio Rose Arena as of late. Getting a sweep would
be cool here. And by the way, more Friday to
Monday series. We used to have him when I was
a kid, and I don't know, I'm old as dirt,
but we used to have them all the time.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
I like Friday to Monday. This is kind of fun.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
I was just gonna ask you about that like that.
This this kind of also feels Christoph, I'm not mistaken.
This also kind of very minor league too, right, very
very PCL back in the day, right, I think, yeah,
And I always thought that the I could be wrong
with that. I always kind of thought one of the
reasons they did that in the minors is because if
you're flying, it's a lot cheaper maybe to fly on
the Monday, and easier to fly with a team on

(06:13):
a Monday as opposed to a Sunday afternoon when people
are commuting. But yeah, this kind of feels very pcl
like Albuquerque's in town for the final of four here
at Cheenie Stadium is what it kind of feels like
along the way. But yeah, I'm with you. It's it's
getting healthy in a hurry along the way, Nathan Bishop,
Chris Crawford with us. It is a Molly Watt Monday,
brought to you by Simply Seattle, Simply Seattle dot com,

(06:35):
Duffy Waldorf. By the way, well played, sir, well played, Nathan.
We go back to what you just said a moment ago.
The the basically the base the the American League, and
we'll get to the Mariners in a second. But the
American League, it's right eight and seven, nine and seven,
nine and seven eight, and like nobody is running away
with the American League. So whatever happened last week was fine.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
Yeah, And I think that's kind of the thing that
we thought this league was going to be coming in
and it's felt like we were moving in this direction
for a couple of years now, as you saw almost
every major transaction involving superstar level talent was taking place. Obviously,
a huge portion of it is the Dodgers, which is
triggered then an arms race in the National League between

(07:19):
them and now the Mets most specifically, But then there's
a trickle down. There's these guys like the Cubs and
the Padres and all of these teams that feel like
they're trying to keep up with the big, bad guys
over in the National League, but here in the American League.
Because the the Yankees have decided that their highest calling
is to be the Jerry Depoto fifty four percent aspirational
guys that they have decided they're going to be, there

(07:41):
is no big guy on the block to kind of
drive that pursuit of, Hey, wouldn't it be cool to
win one hundred and five one hundred and ten games
in the regular season. All that we're seeing is a
bunch of guys trying to do a bunch of math
to figure out exactly how hard they have to try
in order to still be around for the Wildcard two
or Wildcard three, and that's a trickle down of an
ever expanding playoff field. So the Mariagigs should be just

(08:03):
fine even with this slow start, but obviously, to Chris's point,
they do need to play better when they're not being
walked twenty six times over a weekend.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Chris just along those lines, just kind of to piggyback
on what Nate said, we always I mean, listen, there's
there's we look at a record early on and I
think you were the one last week that said it,
and I thought it was it was bang on true.
Like you missed home field advantage by four games last year.
So games in April do matter. You want to win.
But in this year, Chris, and this year is American League,

(08:31):
probably a good year if you want to start out
as they did at what was it four and nine?
Oh there's Chris, there's Chris. Can you hear me? Chris?

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Sorry, guys, I've got some internet issues. I think Andrews
might be aware of my Internet issues as of late.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
A little bit us you're saying that wasn't my fault,
that was your fault. Good, I'll go Yeah, sorry, guys,
no worries. Yeah, just I was going to say this
is this was this is the year in the American League,
right that you want to be four and nine although
you mentioned it last week and we talked about in
the next day and everything else, as he said, you're
a smart man and things like that, and wishes you
were here instead of me most days. But but I

(09:06):
think that's the key, Like this year, no one's running
away with the American League. So this is a year
ago four and nine. We'll get to the other issues
in a second, that Naylor and all that kind of stuff,
But four and nine this year really didn't hurt you.

Speaker 6 (09:18):
No, thankfully it didn't.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
The only thing you can say is, hey, what if
you'd gone seven and six and eight and five and had.

Speaker 6 (09:24):
A little bit of a bigger lead.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
You know, you could always look at the glass half
empty if you really want to look at that glass
half empty. But no, this and the other thing is man,
just you know, as a guy who covers a lot
of baseball, watching a lot of these teams right now.

Speaker 6 (09:37):
They do not pass the eye test either.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
It is not just a case of like taking a
look and seeing some bad one run lock or taking
a look at some teams beating up on each other.
Some of these teams just look awful to begin the year,
and that's going to change. And unfortunately Seattle prior to
the last three was one of those teams that looked
like one of those garbage baseball teams. But yeah, it's
it's so fortunate that nobody took advantage of this, and

(10:02):
especially it's so fortunate that the Aos just does not
look like a strong division in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
The Chris me I want to ask just to We'll
get to the hitters in a second, but Mark brought
this up. MJ brought this up to me in the crosstalk,
and he said, Hey, were you surprised they let Castille
stay in for so long on Sunday or Saturday? And
I was like, you know what, I I was kind
of almost two things jumped out one. They were down
seven to two. It almost felt like, okay, we'll move

(10:31):
on to we're a worry about Sunday, right, and you're just
gonna wear this right, you just you'll just go ahead
and wear this game. But were you surprised that they
left him in.

Speaker 6 (10:40):
A little bit?

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Now I have to admit I didn't watch that game live,
but like watching it unfold, I saw some actually okay
stuff from Castillo and I looked at it generated thirteen
swings and misses in that outing. It's just got a
little too much of the plate there, and you do
have to build up arm strength here, like there is
a little bit of we need to make sure that

(11:04):
you get you ready to have those eighty to ninety
pitch outings because it's going to be really important for them.
I will say though, Castillo since that brilliant start against
the Yankees, has not looked good over these last couple
not terrible, but the results are the results. In the
fact that he hasn't gotten out of the fourth inning
and either of those is a little bit concerning. But

(11:25):
I was a little surprised, and it also just kind
of speaks to the fact that this bullpen right now,
Dan Wilson is going to play it the way he's
played it, and Dan Wilson doesn't appear to feel comfortable
doing the Scott service of bringing in a leverage arm
to put out a fire type of thing.

Speaker 6 (11:44):
That just hasn't been something that they've done so far.
But overall, I'll just say this, I'm not concerned about
Luis Castillo. I was a midge and surprised he stayed
in the game as long as he.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Nathan. Probably what we go back to, we just talking
about how where this team is where the rest of
the American League probably safe to say, and I like
what Chris said, the eye test isn't being passed. We
still know what the what the four to five six
guys are going to start games for Seattle that probably
passes an eye test. That puts you in a different category, right,
Nathan than people the rest of the American League. Oh?

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Absolutely, I think that the depth of this rotation, like
we've talked about Atndium, speaking of which I'm breaking news here,
we're talking about eye tests. I just watched Brandon Donovan
throw a ball all the way from third base to
first on the fly where it was caught by the
guy he was trying to throw it to. So that's
pretty cool. But yeah, this rotation is absolutely the thing
that I felt coming into the season, because I think
the whole thing with the Mariners coming into twenty twenty

(12:38):
six was I didn't think it was likely that the
positional group as a whole was going to play much
better than it did in twenty twenty five. I saw
a regression overall coming from the offensive side of things,
and so what you were going to need to see
is that rotation get back to more of what it
was in twenty twenty three, twenty twenty four and so far,
even with you know, the occasional struggles from a guy

(12:59):
like Castillo and Emerson, Hancock didn't look like an ACE
for the first time all year his last time through,
although he was still fine. This is still the deepest
and most talented rotation in the American League. I don't
think it's particularly close, although I did like what I
saw from the Yankees in those three games that they
played against the Yankees. But I'd still take Seattle's every day.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, Chris, that's that's still the strength of this team.
We'll get to hitting in the next segment. Strength this
team is still those five guys five slash six. When
Miller comes back and it sounds like he had a
good bullpen yesterday down in Arizona.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
So absolutely the strength.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
And you know what, I'm going to add a seventh
the reports I am getting on Katie Anderson.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yeah, I was gonna see you up for that. Tell
people you were you were sent us a text on
Saturday or something saying this was like the highlight of
my weekend, which that's a whole different story. But yes,
yea a little different story forward.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Sure, but he looks phenomenal for those who missed it.
Five no hit innings over his last start, eleven strikeouts.
He struck out seventeen guys in nine innings so far
at the Double A level. He's special. He's got a
chance to be really good. And he's also I have
to admit, like I'm not a huge old school baseball guy.

(14:06):
It's kind of fun watching somebody miss bats that. It's
not one hundred and two. It's not just an elite fastball.
He misses bats because he commands the heck out of
everything he throws, and he generates so much movement with
the pitches as well. He's got a chance to be
a really special arm and give the Mariners a really
good problem over the summer if this keeps up.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Chris Crawford, does he have to pitch in to calm
up before he comes up here? Do you think?

Speaker 6 (14:34):
No?

Speaker 4 (14:34):
No, I would be surprised if he didn't, because I
can't well, they kind of didn't. Like I don't believe
that Logan Gilbert made a start at Triple A, and
I think George Kirby made like one before he called
me up. Nathan, you can correct me on that if
I got that wrong. But they certainly didn't spend a
lot of time in Tacoma. So either way, I don't
think it's a necessity. I think it is something that

(14:56):
if they feel that his stuff is ready to roll,
they're going to give him a chance to get MLB innings.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Is it help me out here with the abs challenge,
you still just get too right unless you get them right,
that is correct. Is it weird to take one on
the third pitch of the game.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Well, it depends. Was it obviously a strike and it
was really dumb to challenge them? Yes?

Speaker 1 (15:16):
The answers yes and yes. Oh, well, because.

Speaker 6 (15:21):
I think they're learning, buddy with it's you know.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
I think did the same thing. I think the Astros
did the same thing on Saturday. They were out and
they kind of got hooped in the ninth inning.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
Well, and I think one of the things that you're
going to have to learn, I think it were as players,
is you've got to take the emotions of a call
that was probably right out of it with some of
this stuff. And I have seen that so often that
somebody is pissed off that they stick out. Okay, let's
challenge this because I couldn't have done something wrong. It's

(15:51):
got to be somebody else's fault. But this early, and
it wasn't a case of by the way, we're not
even supposed to acknowledge this is happening.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
In a little bit.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
It is about Olivia Miles. Yes, no, do you like that?

Speaker 6 (16:03):
I mean I want, I want fued, but I don't.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
I don't know if Dallas, I don't know if Dallas
can get away with not drafting fud Page is still
in Dallas last tight check. And I don't know if
you know this, she's got a semi strong personality. I
don't know how that would fly. I don't know. I'm
just it's just a guess. So yeah, that's fair. I
think they already bought a house there together, So we're
all good, all right, We'll take a break, will come back.

(16:29):
I've been avoiding Josh Naylor's offense. Well, he's been avoiding
his offense, which is all good, right, that works We'll
talk about that with Chris and Nate Malliwa Monday. Next
from the R.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
And R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio. Now back to Ian Fornz,
powered by Seattle's closest sports book, Snow call Me Casino
and Hotel on Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ.

Speaker 7 (16:57):
R F M.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
Monday. He continues, brought to you by Simply Seattle. Simply
Seattle dot com. Is we're in the commercial break. I'm
going through the minor league report the Mariners send out
every day, Chris, Michael Arroyo has been good. It looks
like so far, we said, nice weekend, Las Montes, Right, Montes, yep,
had a nice weekend as well. We liked that those
are part of the future. Correct, all those guys, And

(17:22):
I look up and right then and there I see
Josh Naylor hit a three run home run. What did
you say, Anders, What did you say? You spoken into existence?

Speaker 7 (17:30):
I did?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
I did?

Speaker 1 (17:31):
He is now he is now seven for sixty on
the season. As his first home run and he's up
to five RBI as well. Today's home run aside, Chris,
what do you see from Josh Naylor?

Speaker 8 (17:45):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (17:46):
Not a lot of batspeed? And you know, that is
a little bit more concerning than being off on pitches
or you know, not finding the strikes on as much
when it's an actual athleticism thing. And let's just be honest,
Josh Naylor is not exactly known for his athleticism either.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Now he's had some bad luck.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
There have been some line drives that have just found
the gloves of first basement or right fielders so many
times this year, but there have been a lot of
just weak contact, more swing and mists than we're usually
seeing from Josh Naylor as well. That was nice to see.
That was nice to see that laser. Who I gotta

(18:28):
be honest, I was wondering how is this gonna go
wrong just because it's been that kind of start to
the season for Naylor. But I am concerned about the
lack of bat speed. Not a huge thing that is
impossible to overcome as he feels more comfortable as he
loosens up, but it is a little bit concerning that
it is an athletic thing more than a process thing
with Naylor.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
To me, one to thank Nathan, where's your concern level
for Naylor today? Aside?

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Ah like a six where it's it's still soar and
I just really have a hard time caring about almost
any stats until May. I will echo what Chris is
talking about as far as process. Naylor is such an
interesting player because he plays first base. He's a bigger guy,
so you think that he's going to be this like

(19:14):
prototypical thirty five home run slugger who hits like two forty.
But you know, his skill set has always been higher
contact with a little less power that he can absolutely
crush a baseball. He can hit it plenty far, but
he's never been a huge home run guy. So what
I want to see is just get that batting average
up there. And part of that's going to be just
the babbit regression when you see more balls find some grass.

(19:36):
But he just needs to start putting a lot better,
a lot more good swings on the ball. And if
that bat speed doesn't come back this year, like if
that's a permanent thing this year, that contract is going
to start looking not great a lot earlier than we
thought it was going to. So that's that's the real reason.
That's probably adding two to my concern is less is

(19:57):
josh Nay Naylor going to be fine this year? I
think he probably will be. But if he's at all
a reduced version of himself now in year one of
a five year contract, that that contract's going to start
looking interesting going into twenty twenty seven and beyond.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Chris as a guy that does kind of study everything
around the league and you're watching this, I think last
week it was like you know, said to us two
weeks ago, I guess there's a few guys around the
league that have batspeed down, but specifically with the three
guys in Seattle, was you know the BA velocity was
way down compared to last year. Is this a norm though?

(20:31):
Are you seeing that from others around the league or
is nail Or an outlier? And what do we see
him from Cal and Julio in that regard.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
I think it's a little bit more of an outlier now.
Like I said, there are guys who are struggling right now,
but it hasn't really been.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
With bat speed.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
The good news is Seattle, Julio and Cal have bounced back.
Like Cal, I was just looking, Julio ranks now in
the ninety six percent dial in bat speed, and I
think Big Dumper was something like eighty five eighty six
percent dial.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
But no, it was. And here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
What you us only happens with bat speed guys who
struggle early, it's because they're not comfortable swinging fully, like
they're not picking up the baseball well enough to completely
give it that entire rip. With Josh Naylor, I think
it is something where he's just not ripping it, like
he's giving it his full swing and he's just not
getting there. You've seen some in betweens from Julio and

(21:20):
Cal earlier that kind of affect that number, but they're
back on their way up with Naylor. Outside of I'll
have to take a look at what the bat speed
was on this home run. Outside of that, Joss Naylor
just hasn't swung a very fast bat, and that is concerning.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
How about Julio? But mister clutch five rbiyes this season
and let's see, two are game tying and then the
other one was a two run home in the ninth
inning and the other one was a game time home
run I think in the eighth inning. Like, right, I
guess you just clutch up. I mean, who else, like,
let me know when it matters. He's almost the ondress
Munos of hitters now, right, just just tap me when
you need me. Otherwise I'm going to take a few

(21:56):
innings off.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
It's so fun to watch, and you know, he's he's
It's fun to watch for a lot of reasons.

Speaker 6 (22:03):
One of them is there.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Is a portion of a fan base that doesn't still
fall in love with Julio Rodriguez. Let's just be honest.
I see it every day. I to hear it every
day via either text or via comments on YouTube or whatever.
There are still people who have not loved watching Julio.
But you can't question the clutch gene anymore. Man Like

(22:28):
that is as clutch as it gets. To tie games
with two outs in the ninth inning, that's huge. And
you know, you take a look at the Savant page
here everything really but Chase is totally fine, totally fine,
and his defense remains elite.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
I have no I'm not happy with the numbers Julios
put up.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Everything in process with Julio Rodriguez for this first tenth
of the season suggests that he's going to be just fine.

Speaker 5 (22:56):
And can Yeah. And in isolation too, that swing he
put on the ball for the home run on Saturday,
I know that Randy hit an absolute tank. This weekend.
But for my money, that ball that Julio hit on
Saturday was my favorite swing of any Mariner this year.
And I think he's the only guy on the team
that really hits that kind of a bomb, that way
out slightly slightly at a right center but almost dead center,

(23:19):
bomb that almost hits the batter's eye in the back there.
And it was such easy power, such an easy swing
to be getting that kind of To have a center
fielder do that kind of thing, I can't believe that
we've actually seen that before here, but we have. But
that is such a rare thing to have that kind
of a player play that position, be able to put
that kind of a swing on the ball, regardless of

(23:40):
game state. Everything Chris said about the clutch part is
true too. But just in isolation, what a beautiful home
run that was, and what an incredibly talented baseball player
he used to watch. I cal was the story of
the season last year. But when you watch Julio Rodriguez
play baseball, I mean, what a special thing. The guy's
just one of the most talented baseball players I've ever
seen in my life.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
Great, So wait a second, you guys are both telling
me that that Julio Rodriguez is a good player and
we should be excited to watch him play every day
here in Seattle and enjoy what we have. Are you
telling me that you too? Is that what I'm hearing?

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Yeah, Tacoma Dodg's text line, I don't know what to
tell you, but.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
I don't get it, but like, hey, you do you
and uh hold on to your Jim Presley memory.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Trying I'm trying to think, have we ever had a
player of in any sport in Seattle of his ability
that drew as much criticism as he does? Maybe Russell Wilson,
Like I guess Sean Alexander. Maybe is it Seawan Alexander?

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Oh, Seawan Alexander is a good one. Because everybody loves
to tell me that it was just because of Hutchinson
and Jones that he was a good player, including many
of my friends who are no longer my friends because
they said stupid crap like that great comp It's a
it's a different thing, but I think that is the guy.

(25:04):
He's the only guy I can think of who was
literally an MVP. Yes, that many fans just didn't love.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
I think when I hope he wins the at some
point we get a Julio MVP for no other reason
because I want to hear the next year the criticism
of Julio, like, you know, like that's well, you know,
it's almost like the guy this weekend of the Masters
that asked Scotty after he shot six under well, what
could he have done better? What would you leave? I
shot six hunder Man?

Speaker 6 (25:30):
Like yeah, you know.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
What's funny about that? Alexander komm too that that I
just thought of. He and Julio are guilty of the
thing that I think irritates a weird subset of fans.
They're really happy guys. They play and exist with a
lot of joy. I always mind defining memory of Sean
Alexander without his helmet on, is that huge already smile.
Julio plays the game with so much joy. And I

(25:54):
think there's a part of the fan base or just
a part of our society that thinks you're never supposed
to emotion if you're a man, and it's exhausting. And
I hope that that's not if you're listening, that's not you.
If it is, maybe think about why that is and
start learning to appreciate people who show their emotions and
let themselves feel while they're getting paid millions of dollars

(26:14):
to play a game.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Exactly well said, all right, Nathan goes sell some houses.
People want to need house. Nathan Bishops over there, he's
in the gold circle of sales. I saw. Congratulations, You're
kind of a big deal in the real estate world.

Speaker 5 (26:26):
We are trying, sir, We're going to try to get
to the platinum this year. That's the idea.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Well done, and mile Y, I believe it's still on
YouTube if I'm not mistaken and Rotal World, is that right, Chris?

Speaker 6 (26:36):
That is correct.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
By the way, Speaking of golf, I'm disappointed you didn't
acknowledge my name today in the zoom change.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
I did.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Duff Duffy Waldorf is the zoom chat. I just wanted
to go back. I'm like, did I miss something that
Duffy actually win a Master's. No, his highest finish and
the Master's tied for fifth and ninety six. I missed
the cut a couple of times his highest your guy, Duffy,
that that you're doing today the highest finish in a
major was indeed that the tide for fifth. He had

(27:04):
a top ten at the PGA.

Speaker 9 (27:06):
I believe one of these times, when Chris comes in
with his name, I'll actually get the joke.

Speaker 5 (27:12):
It's never gonna be anyone that was alive. Yeah, yeah,
it was famous when you were alive. Also, Chris, he
did mention it. I gotta, I gotta defend Ian's honor.
He did mention it. Your internet was on auxiliary.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Yes, yes, I did, actually earlier because I had it
called up to say, God, what did I miss with
Duffy the Masters, and he'd do something, but he like,
you know what the bet or something at something T
five and ninety six misscut T thirty one teeth well
fish same place the kid lead did yesterday who had
a tent on a hole. So that's good time for
thirty ninth. I can relate, Nathan, we can relate to that.

Speaker 7 (27:47):
Huh.

Speaker 5 (27:48):
I didn't shoot a nine yesterday. I played golf. I
didn't get anything over an eight. So I'm ready. I'm ready,
Augusta call me.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
Shout out to the Master's food menu, by the way,
still charging a buck fifty for ice cream sandwiches and
stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Listen, the markup on food for stadiums and arenas and
places is stupid, obscene that they now they make their
money elsewhere to the masters. Mister they need mister CBS
wrote a nice check for the rights feed, as did
Prime Video this year. All right, that's Nathan, that's Chris.
It's in the books. We'll check in with you next
week after Oh, what what they do this week? They'll
get a win today? No, no, no, they have three against

(28:23):
the Padres. And then who's here on sathath weekend? Is
it the Texans Rangers? What do you want to see?

Speaker 5 (28:28):
What? Give me?

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Give me numbers this week?

Speaker 4 (28:30):
Born two four and two, four and two. They got
to have their first one in week all right, Nathan, I.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
Want to see him. I want to see him beat
the Rangers in that series.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I like it too. All right, that's it. Ralph David
power Play coming up next.

Speaker 7 (28:40):
To you, Here come the crapy. Peek out.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
The Daily power Play.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
On your voting for the Kraking Sports Radio ninety three
point three.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
kJ R f M.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
The Daily power Play is brought to you Byasakwahonda, the
logist inventory of Kbota equipment in Kane County. Now your
daily look at the National Hockey League and the Seattle
Kraken with the infant Is Daily.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Power played home for the Crack and nine three point
three KJFM. I'm want to get right to it.

Speaker 7 (29:33):
Here you go.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
This is Todd li Wiki. He joined us the other
day on the Krack and Hockey Network and we've all
kind of heard various thoughts from Todd this is where
the franchise is headed next, and his thoughts on Ron
France is departing the organization.

Speaker 10 (29:46):
Yeah, I mean, first, let me just start by saying,
you know, the journey this got went on with us
was really incredible. This didn't exist, well, it did, but
it was in prior form. We didn't have a name,
we didn't have a training center. He designed our locker
room here, he designed the locker room in north Gate.

Speaker 7 (30:06):
He did a lot of stuff.

Speaker 10 (30:07):
He helped create the name, the brand, the feeling, and
he was our founding general manager and for that we're
going to be just forever grateful. But I think we
hit a point of inflection. I think he felt it
as well, and it was a sort of a mutual
feeling that it was a good time for him to
step beside. Jason was brought in as our associate general manager.

(30:27):
He had been incredibly well trained you know, his whole life. Really,
his grandmother was an Olympian, his mother was an Olympian.
His sister is highly decorated. Jason was the only guy
in junior hockey in Canada to win three gold medals.
One off first round draft pick, played for a while
in the league, got concussed, one, got a master's degree,

(30:48):
one to the NHL, applied his trade, had an incredible
run at Pittsburgh, and then was general manager in Buffalo
and learned a lot.

Speaker 7 (30:56):
So he came here.

Speaker 10 (30:58):
Really is Ron's number two, and we always know that
someday would come that he would sit in that number
one share and we're that.

Speaker 7 (31:05):
Day, Todd.

Speaker 11 (31:06):
Let's talk about what comes next now, as you shared
with some of us this morning, and no one is
satisfied with what's happened on the ice, and you shared
some next steps.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
And I don't know if maybe you and.

Speaker 11 (31:16):
I are fortunate or unfortunate to have been around a
lot of consultants, but you shared that there's going to
be an audit. Can you talk about specifically what's going
on there, because this isn't Jason Botral doing his own audit.

Speaker 7 (31:27):
Tell us what's happening.

Speaker 10 (31:28):
Yeah, so we are going to look, we're gonna lay
eyes on everything we're doing, and we're gonna ask, you know,
hard questions. How are we structured right, how are we
training players in the off season? What more can we
do to get players to want to come here from
other teams? And it's really helpful to ask outsiders, and
ultimately I and all of this reported to our owner,

(31:51):
Samantha Holloway, who is a phenomenal owner. She is there
is and we've draft and done so many things, not
just with a hockey team, but so many other things.
And I believe she's going to help lead the way
for another team that it's going to play in this
building at some point in time.

Speaker 7 (32:06):
So it's a.

Speaker 10 (32:07):
Super healthy thing, obviously, and we're working on exactly how
that's going to work, and obviously they will work with
Jason and his team, But this is all going to
report into the owner, Make no mistake about it.

Speaker 12 (32:19):
One of the big messages I took from this morning
was that you don't think it's been good enough for
the fans and that you want to do right by them.
So can you kind of explain what that fan base
means to this organization?

Speaker 10 (32:31):
Well, it's everything it's our oxygen. And this is for me.
This is my second time working for the fans, maybe
the third. I helped start the Sounders, but you know,
these are incredible fans and they bought into this before
there was a name, and they took this incredible leap
of faith with us. And you know, quite honestly, we

(32:51):
got to do better and we're going to. And I
say that with confidence because when you look at the
body of work of what we've done and what we've
put our mind to and the excellence that this organization's created.

Speaker 7 (33:05):
We got to get this done.

Speaker 10 (33:06):
But I'm really confident we will because we've taken on
things and we've gotten them done. This Arena is an example,
Our training center is an example. Are Broadcast is another example.
There's just so much good that this organization's done. But
at the heart of it is the team. And we've
got to inspire this team to do better. And yes,
we're going to have outsiders. Look, but the word inspire

(33:28):
is so important. We've got to push our players, inspire
our players, inspire our coaches, inspire our leadership.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
And that's something I've done in my career.

Speaker 10 (33:39):
And you know, you don't really push people by threats,
you inspire people to do greater.

Speaker 7 (33:46):
And that's really what we're going to try and do here.

Speaker 10 (33:48):
We are going to have an active offseason, but we're
going to take a fresh look at everything and we're
going to we're going to assess every aspect of this organization.
You know why, because that's exactly what the fans would
want us to do. And we I work for saman
Paalo Bay, where we all work.

Speaker 7 (34:03):
For the fans.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
Todd, one of the things that you know obviously happens
in pro sports is you need to have great players
like you need to have good players. I think there's
a thought something we'll just wave a magic wand and
bring in a guy like Sydney crossby Connor McDavid Nathan
McKinnon and do that. It's impossible to do. You know that,
we all know that. At same time, though you mentioned
a couple of times just now with bretton also this morning,
how this offseason needs to be aggressive. What do you

(34:27):
want to see? What is the edict to Jason bott
Roll for this offseason?

Speaker 10 (34:31):
Well, you know it's it's less of an adict than saying, hey,
what are the ways and means on which We're going
to continue.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
To prove this team. It's not just this offseason.

Speaker 10 (34:41):
We want to build long term, competitive, competitive team and
there's lots of examples of it across sports and certainly
in the NHL. We do have four first round picks.
You don't like it or not, and uh, but you
know we're going to have a low pick here, and
we're going to have a very low pick. And there's
some excellent players this year's draft. Our Firebirds are an

(35:02):
excellent indicator of what's about to come. And they're playing
very well. They've made the playoffs again. Their first two years,
they went all the way to the Calder Cup finals.
That's an incredibly well run farm team for us. And
then there are some young players here that are going
to mature and are going to be the stars coming.
How do we buttress that we went into the Olympic

(35:22):
Break in a playoff spot, we came out of it
and we've struggled, and that adversity actually creates opportunity for
us to ask questions and say we've got to do better.
And this is an ownership that doesn't rest on her laurels,
and we have investors, but Samantha Holloway is our leader.
She's our boss, and she wants this to be an

(35:43):
organization that wins in all aspects. And we've done a
lot of winning. We've won with this building. It's filled
every night, storm games, Torrent games, concerts. We've won in
the community. But we've got to win on the ice,
and that's her charter.

Speaker 11 (35:59):
Todd, you mentioned excellence, and that's a theme you shared
again this morning, of the pursuit of excellence. Talk about
how that is part of the identity of what has
been built and now what needs to be built fully
across all parts of the organization.

Speaker 7 (36:11):
Well, we've worked. I've worked hard.

Speaker 10 (36:13):
I've been at this for eight years, and many people
thought this was highly improbable, bringing a hockey team here,
creating what I think is the most beautiful arena in
the world. I'll put this arena up against any building,
a training center. The way we have, building out the
brand the way we have, It's been hard work. This
is the next step, this is the final step. We've
got to get this team to a better place, and

(36:35):
I'm confident we will.

Speaker 12 (36:37):
Well, I've been in locker rooms when these type of
moves have been made, and guys like you have come
and talked and we heard you went and talked to
the players before the press conference this morning, and to
be honest, it can be a shameful time as a
player because you feel kind of partly responsible for that.
So is there anything you can share with us what
the message to those players was, or what you wanted

(36:57):
to be and even possibly future free agent what that
message is to them.

Speaker 10 (37:01):
Yeah, I think when you really look at it, and
I remember my days at the Seahawks and we were
having a little trouble getting players to come pay visits
out here, but we turn that around and the rest
is history. And so you know, there are challenges in
front of us, but none of them are insurmountable. I
think players generally love playing here, but we're even going

(37:22):
to work on that part of it. How can we
create a better experience for our players their families And
you know the reputation is that it rains out here,
Well it's cloudy.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
I will say this.

Speaker 10 (37:32):
The magazine kind of nast Day our Travel and Leisure
rather last edition in March rated Seattle is the best
city to live in in the United States and one
of the ten best cities to live in the world.
We've got to tell that story. And you know, left
to left to social media and all Seattle it rains
all the time. This is an incredible city with that

(37:54):
fights above its weight class and has so much to offer,
and that's in part why these other teams have and
I'm confident we're going to do the same.

Speaker 7 (38:02):
Todd.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
I look back. You mentioned the Seahawks a couple of times,
and for fans don't remember, Todd was the CEO of
the president of the Seahawks. When you made a move
after one year with Jim Mora and you brought in
a guy by the name of Pete Carroll worked out okay,
and John Schnodder and John my buddy worked out very
well for everybody involved. But these news moves are never
easy for you. How difficult was this conversation with Ron?
As you mentioned, the reason we're all sitting here and

(38:24):
this organization was built was Ron Francis. How difficult was that?

Speaker 7 (38:28):
Well?

Speaker 10 (38:28):
I have great respect for Ron seventeen over seventeen hundred
games in the league, you know, chairman of the Hockey
Hall of Fame, which he was a member. I mean,
really quite amazing, and so he knows how I feel.
About him, and he knows how we feel about him,
and you know, I think on his behalf, we want
to get this to a whole other level because he

(38:50):
worked already, He spilled blood to build this, and we
own that, we owe the fans that that's what we're
going to do.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
We appreciate you coming up here today.

Speaker 7 (38:58):
No what pleasure.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Not the most pleasant circus substances, but we appreciate. I
think the fans really appreciate hearing the message as well
about getting this thing back on track.

Speaker 10 (39:06):
Okay, and let me just say, as the season ends,
you have all done terrific work. We're so proud of
our broadcasts. We're proud of many things, but we're definitely
proud of our broadcast.

Speaker 1 (39:14):
So thank you. He was looking actually at Bretton Allison,
not me when he said that. All right, that's Todd Lightwicky.
Good stuff from him. We'll come back. Let's talk a
little bit NFL Draft with Greg Cosel coming up next
now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests, Jordan ninety three
point three kJ R FM Sports Headlines, Roti by Frostprow, Corslight, Choose,

(39:36):
Chill Masters, Rory Beats, Scottie and Cam and everybody else
along the way. Justin and Company wins a Master's back

Tiger did it. Fourth player in history to do that
as well. Maners won the first three games in the
series against Houston. Looks like to go to win their
number of their fourth against the Astros. George Kirby on
the Mount pitching well today I Astros paced. Jeremy Pania

(39:58):

Jonth Quick retiring at the age of forty two decades
three Stanley Cups as a goaltender in the NHL WNBA
draft is today Storm hold the number three overall pick.
Four pm Pacific time is when it gets underway.

Speaker 9 (40:19):
They are.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
Sort of rebuilding. I think that's a rebuild they're doing.
But yeah, you have the third overall pick. Well on
your I think your top five, maybe top six scorers
from last season are all gonzo, so yeah, that's probably
it's probably rebuilt. But yeah, number three pick is good.
Good for you. All right, let's move into two o'clock hour.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast studio. Now
back to Ian Fornez, powered by Seattle's closest sportsbook, Snow
Qualmy Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
All right, here we go, two o'clock hour, Great Cosella,
just a second talking about cornerbacks in the draft as
we get ready, by the way, a week from Thursday,
day one of the twenty twenty six NFL Draft. Huh
can you believe that four nine four or five one?
Is it to come a dodge? Text line? Four nine
four five one to come a dodge? Text line? Your thoughts,

(41:18):
your comments, your questions, your concerns about all of us
as we dodged what we had to dodge the other day,
of course, out of would be the fire of the
power outage, everything else, right, the gong show that was
you weren't here, right, you were gone. I take a
day off, and you guys decided to burn the place down. Well, no,
it wasn't us. It was a chemical guys or the
whatever they are down the down the second floor guys, Yeah,

(41:41):
second floor guys. You know whatever, weird things they're doing
down there. Yeah, yeah, good job fell us, good job,
well done, well done. Anyway, we're on backup power, but
we're plugging away here on this Monday afternoon, so we'll
get your comments, your thoughts four nine, four to five one,
whatever's on your mind. Coming up at two thirty today,
Softy at two forty five CUC with NFL Draft, our

(42:04):
guy Greg Cosell. Talk to him every week. Our last
installment with him in amongst the fire Alarms everything else.
I wanted to kind of revisit that talking about the
cornerbacks in the draft, and of course that starts with
when they pick a cornerback at number thirty two with
only four picks in the draft.

Speaker 8 (42:21):
You and I knowing John Schneider, you know him better
than I obviously, we know that that's going to change.
They're not going to draft four plus.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
It's one hundred percent going to change. There's no doubt
about that. We should mention that Greg Gosell is brought
to you by our good friends at the Hall Group.
And listen, there's a lot of hauls, but we want
to tell you about this specifically. Baseball season is underway
right now. Are you heading to the games? Make occidental Haul,
your first stop and your last stop at your Mariners
pre and post game headquarters. Game Day starts at the

(42:50):
Hall after every home game, and they're back in town
on Friday. This coming Friday and all through the weekend.
After every home game, celebrate with five dollars smash Burgers
plus happy hour Monday through Friday from four to six
Occidental Hall. This is how you do game day. I
should also mention that we've just had we have three
home games left for your Seattle Kraken. Best pre and

(43:12):
post game place for the Kraken of course the queen
Ane Beer Hall as well. I think I'm gonna make
my way there after the game on Saturday. It's an
early game, so I think I'm gonna swing on by
and grab myself a smash Burger after the game and
hang out with our TV crew. Draft it's our last
home broadcast, so go check that out. Torrent Games as well,
a great place to go for pre and posts near
the Climate Plagerina or of course Occidental Hall. Don't forget

(43:35):
it from the east side Muspe Hall over in Kirkland
as well. All right, Greg, let's talk edge rushers today.
General thought, Real quick edge rushers this year, and actually,
I'm gonna throw this at you because we have to
go through this. Every team looks at edge rushers differently.
You talk to coaches all the time, you know, we
used to kind of think of edge rushers as the
defensive end in a four to three alignment on a defense.

(43:57):
That's not the case anymore. Like the Seahawks call them
out side linebackers or rush edges or whatever they call them.
Every team has a different look. What is today's in
general terms NFL edge rusher? What does he look like?

Speaker 8 (44:11):
Well, I think that's team and scheme specific, and this
draft reflects that. Is that there are guys who are
true pass rushers off the edge. They have pass rush traits.
That's what they do. That's how they'll make their money
in the NFL if they're going to be good NFL
players because they can rush the quarterback. And then there
are other players who are age players, but they're not

(44:32):
necessarily strong pass rushers. They're powerful, they're strong, they're strong
against the run, they play with violence, they play off
contact really well. Yes they can get some sacks, but
they're not necessarily guys you would call great edge rushers.
And then there's other guys who are multi positional, and
we'll get to one of those as well in this draft,

(44:52):
one who can certainly line up on the edge, but
could well end up playing inside more depending upon team
and scheme. So there's different categories the in of edge rusher,
you know it, And I think Seattle is a good
example of that with someone like Derek Hall. You know,
Derek Hall. And again, I'm not gonna sit here and say,
because obviously I watched every snap, but that was a
while ago, and so I can't remember every single thing,

(45:15):
believe it or not. But I mean I'm not gonna
sit here and say Derek Hall never played one snap inside.
But you're not drafting Derek Hall to play inside, you know,
as a pass rusher you're playing. You're drafting him to
play outside as an edge rusher, and he obviously did
very well down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (45:30):
Greg, I'll just I've got a list of guys in
front of me, but you tease me, who's the guy
you just referenced inside outside guy.

Speaker 8 (45:37):
Keldrick Falk from Auburn. Keldric Fawk is a mountain of
a young man. I mean, these guys are young. I
mean I think he's twenty years old, and we forget
that sometimes. I mean, it's like watching the nca basketball tournament.
You see these eighteen year old freshmen. I mean, I'm
just blown away by the talent that they have. But anyway, fuck,
I think it's twenty. He's six six to seventy six ian.

(45:57):
His arm length is thirty four and three eight. He's
got a wingspan that's over eighty two. He's powerful, he's
strong in Auburn's defense, and I've watched him for two years.
He played anywhere from zero technique, which means he lines
up head up on the offensive center, to wide nine,
which means he lines up outside in offensive tackle. So
but he's not a pure pass rusher. He's a power player.

(46:20):
So sure he has some speed to power element to
his rush, but he's not a sudden, twitchy guy that's
going to beat you off the edge with his quickness.
So you know, he's an example of a guy that
if you draft him, you probably have you well, you
don't have to understand, you will understand if you draft him,
you will definitely know what he is. And they could
play probably anywhere along your defensive front, you know, depending

(46:45):
on on how you want to line up, I'll give
you an example. He's a much better prospect than Mike Morris. Okay,
Morris is the big kid out of Michigan who lined
up at defensive end in Michigan. But it's played a
lot of snaps inside for Seattle because he's he he's
so big, and he's got some physical power to him,
you know, but he's not an age rusher, so you know,
you try to find ways to use them.

Speaker 1 (47:07):
Is Falk more explosive though than Morris, because I mean
Morris doesn't have much of a burst.

Speaker 8 (47:11):
Yeah, he's a way better prospect. Yes, I mean Maris
was a really nice college player. And if I'm not mistaken,
it wasn't he like a fourth or fifth round pick.
I mean he was not a high high pick.

Speaker 1 (47:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (47:20):
I was just trying to use that as a comparison
because they're both tall, they're both long, neither one is
a pure age rusher.

Speaker 1 (47:27):
Yeah, and I just like looking at his numbers, it
kind of felt body type looked a lot similar to
what Morris. And Morris is a serviceable guy for Seattle,
a depth guy and and all that. Folka young guys,
you know, small town Alabama, guy went to Auburn, hasn't
left the state. Young kid, We'll see what he's got
about him. Yeah, I'm gonna jump around a little bit
when I.

Speaker 8 (47:44):
Watch Folk, just to give you an example. And I
know we want to move on and get to a
bunch of guns. When I walked Falk, I thought of
Bill Belichick and how he deploys a lot of defensive linemen.
And obviously he's not coaching in the NFL, and certainly
Fulk's not Richard Seymour. But if you remember the way
Richard Seymour would line up at d n detail, he
didn up anywhere along the defensive line, and Fox not
Richard Seymour. I don't want people to think I'm making

(48:05):
an apples to apples comparison, but I thought of that's
that's the kind of way in which you'll be deployed
if you draft.

Speaker 1 (48:11):
That makes sense. I'm gonna skip by Listen, rvel Reeve,
David Bailey, both guys ranked relyhire. I'm gonna skip by
those because Seattle's not going to get those guys or not.

Speaker 8 (48:18):
That's not they're not going to be trading up to
the top five.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
No, no, no, I am and a then other guy's
gonna go probably very early. But I'm just curious to
get your thoughts on him, because we all know him
and remember from the from the title or the run
in the playoffs. I would love to get your thoughts
on what you've seen from Ruben Bain Junior. We've heard
a lot. I've heard a lot about him after the combine,
the short arms, all that kind of stuff. What do
you see from Ruben ban He's not going to be
a seahawk, But what do you see from Ruben Bain?

Speaker 8 (48:42):
Yeah, you know, I don't have and I'm being honest,
I don't have an answer about the arm length. And
I'll tell you why. I'm going to give you a
very quick analogy which two people way smarter than I am,
and why I don't have an answer. It involves Will Campbell,
the offensive tackle for the Patriots. I heard Joe Thomas,
who obviously knows more about offensive tackle play than I do,
saying that his problems down the stretch had nothing to

(49:02):
do with arm length. Then I spoke to a good
friend of mine who's been an offensive line coach in
the league for thirty plus years, who said absolutely it
had everything to do with the short arms. So when
you hear two people who are really smart say that
I can't tell you what his arm length means, I
can tell you what he looks like on film.

Speaker 5 (49:18):
And he's a.

Speaker 8 (49:19):
Sought off, hyper competitive, hyper physical power player. He's a
fun guy to watch because he plays so hard. He
knows how to use his hands and whatever arm length
you want to give him, you know, and he's very
good at playing off contact, and there's just a sheer
physicality and toughness and competitiveness to his game. But he's

(49:40):
more than likely just a defensive end.

Speaker 6 (49:43):
Now.

Speaker 8 (49:44):
Having said that, I thought there were some similarities to
Brandon Graham when he came out of Michigan and Graham
later in his career started playing inside for Philly, but
he didn't do that early in his career. So, you know,
Bain is not an outside backer. You know, he's not
a stand up guy. He's going to drop into cover.
You know, that's not who he is. You're not drafting
him to do that. But he's a really good football player.

(50:06):
And there's people who believe that the arm length won't
matter because of the way in which he plays, And
I guarantee in draft meetings. There'll be others who say,
uh uh, history shows that no one with that arm
length makes it as a defensive end, which, by the way,
history shows so you're gonna have competing thoughts and competing
draft processes right there. Like I said, I love watching

(50:27):
him play. I don't have an answer to it. I'm
just being honest.

Speaker 1 (50:29):
Greg Cozell joining his courtesy of the Hall Group. Don't
forget swinging on by the Occidental Hall before or after
baseball games this season. Five dollars smash Burger's post game.
All right, let's get to Let's stay with Miami and
talk about his teammate because he might be around if
Seattle's drafting into the first round or maybe even the
second round. Who knows. That's a key messador.

Speaker 8 (50:48):
Yeah, and he's an older player. You know which teams
will have different views on that. I think will be
twenty five. He's a much juicier, more explosive off the
ball athlete than ruben Bain. He's got sudden quickness off
the ball, he can generate velocity at the top of
his past rush arc. He's violent as well. I mean,
he's the there's physicality, there's strong hands, he's got short
stroke power. He showed some speed to power. He's built differently.

(51:13):
Even though he's not significantly taller, he looks longer on film.
You know, he's got really good body control and balance.
He's a really interesting guy. You know, look, who knows
how this draft's going to play out, because with the
lack of quarterbacks in it, you just don't know how.
You know, players will start to come off the board
and sometimes that changes how teams do things. But Messidor

(51:35):
is a very interesting guy. He's he's more of a
true edge player when you think of a guy that
has true pass rush traits.

Speaker 1 (51:43):
Last week we talked with our buddy Rob rang about
Zion Young and it sounds like Young from Missouri is
a guy that is I'm gonna use the word kind
of polarizing in the sense of you just said it
a moment ago. Every team looks and listen, every team
looks at every player differentely right, whether it's age, arm, length,
all these things. Zion Young kind of feels like one
of those guys is can be much debated during the

(52:04):
draft from Missouri. What do you see from him on tape?

Speaker 6 (52:07):
Yeah, because I think.

Speaker 8 (52:08):
He falls more into that category I mentioned when you
asked me initially about you know, edge players. I think
he's more of a prototypical four to three D N
in a foundational four man D line front. His staple
strengths are power and physicality and working his hands. He's
not a twitchy, sudden guy. Doesn't mean he can never
sack the quarterback, but he doesn't have that higher level

(52:28):
bend in flexibility, so he wins kind of as a
pass rusher with methodical power and hand placement. But he's
six six two sixty two. You know, he's a big man.
He looks big on tape. He's very good at block reconstruction.
In the run game, he can set the edge. But
you know, to me, you don't draft him and say
he's now my age rusher. This is the guy we're

(52:50):
going to count on that other teams are going to
account for when they play us. He's not that guy.
But he's a good football player. He's just you know,
I'm a big believer Ian and you'll appreciate. To me,
you've got to understand what a guy is. It's like
in baseball, okay, with free agency, when a guy is
in a lineup and batting seventy hits thirty home runs,
and then some team signs hup to big money and

(53:11):
wants to bat him third, thinking he's going to do
exactly the same thing. You know, it doesn't always work
like that, you know it you sort of to me,
you have to have a sense of what a guy is.

Speaker 1 (53:22):
Well. The thing with young that's interesting about him is
again probably what scheme specific in a sense as well,
and as we're talking about, yeah, as we're talking about
edge rushers and you know, which is as Greg articulated
and kind of defined at the start of the segment,
it's it's wide ranging and what looks like, see, I
don't have the best defense statistically in the NFL last year, Greg,

(53:44):
as you well know, their top sack guys were in
the two guys in the interior both with seven sacks. Yep, Like,
this is not a team Mike McDonald, I don't know
if he's looking for, like that that speed edge rusher
that we've come to know and talk about over the years.

Speaker 8 (54:00):
It may not be the priority. I mean, I'm sure
if there was one that he you know, was there,
Like you know, depending on what they choose to do
with their draft picks, you have someone like Malachi Lawrence
from UCF. I have no idea how how John Schneider
or Mike McDonald feels about Malachi Lawrence. But he's not
likely to be a first round pick. And if you
really like him, you know he's that he's that kind

(54:21):
of guy. He's got some length to him. He's a
good rusher, plays the run pretty well. He's like a
he's a solid edge rushing prospect. But you know, Zion Young,
just to give you an example, because you know we're
both a little older, and we go back to football
from a few years ago, back in the day when
we used to look at a four to three d
N and say he's a strong side d N. He plays,
you know, over the tight end.

Speaker 12 (54:41):
Man.

Speaker 8 (54:41):
We used to say that about guys that to me
is Ion Young. Okay, who's Iion Young is to me?

Speaker 1 (54:46):
Well, and that's and I when I bring up just
kind of how they look at it, like it feels
like they they do everything kind of by committee up
front a little bit too. And Zion Young might fit that.
But let's talk about malt Let's go back to Malachi
Lawrence from UCF and what you see from him.

Speaker 8 (54:59):
Yeah, he would. I didn't know much about him at all.
In fact, a very good friend of mine at the
combine told me about him. Obviously, UCF's not necessarily on
you know, TV all the time I did, so I
didn't see much of him at all, didn't know a
lot about him.

Speaker 5 (55:12):
I liked him.

Speaker 8 (55:12):
I thought he showed some knock back power in his hands,
in his arms, which is very good in the run game.
I thought he could stop and redirect. He's a plus athlete.
He's over sixty four, he's over two fifty, he's got
good arm length.

Speaker 6 (55:25):
You know.

Speaker 8 (55:25):
I think that he's he showed some tools in his
toolbox where he has to work on some things, and
they all do, by the way, so it's never a
knock on a player on a prospect, their prospects to
say they have things to work on. He's got to
work on playing off contact, reworking his hands, which is
very common, by the way, for college pass rushers, because

(55:45):
they don't do that a lot in college. He reminded
me a little bit of and I'm sure we talked
about this guy last year. He was a rookie this
year in Carolina named Nick Scourton who actually played a
lot in Carolina and played well toward the end of
the season. He reminded me of Nick Goarurton quite a bit.
But I like Malachi Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (56:04):
How about Cassius Howell from Texas A and M.

Speaker 8 (56:06):
Now there's another guy that has an arm lenge, major concern,
but he is super juicy. I mean, this guy is.
He may be, along with David Bally, the two most
explosive edge players in this draft in terms of just
exploding off the edge. I mean, this guy is, that's
just who he is. I mean, he is super quick,

(56:30):
He's got explosive get off, he's got first step twitch.
I mean, this guy challenges the high side of offensive tackles,
meeting the outside shoulder as quickly as you can can
do it. And he's he can do some things off
of that. He's got that one arm stead. He plays
as if his arms are longer. That's the odd thing

(56:50):
he plays because there's times when he uses his arms really,
really well. Now you could also say he's always had
short arms, So you know, that's the thing. You know,
guys know what they are, right and you know know
what they are. When you play sports long enough, you
know what you can do. And what you can't do.
But this guy is I think he can play in
a five to two base as an outside backer. His

(57:11):
coverage ability is very, very good. But this guy is
he's explosive and he's terrific as a looper in stunts
because he's got that short area of burst. He's got flexibility,
and man does he have closing speed.

Speaker 1 (57:25):
We got a couple more guys we get in time
to hit on as well. How about ar Mason Thomas
out of Oklahoma.

Speaker 8 (57:30):
Yeah, he's he falls a little more into the catcher's
hell category, although he doesn't weigh as much and that
shows up. But he's another guy that has some juice
to him. I don't think it's at the same level
of Howel And he weighs a good ten twelve pounds less,
and sometimes that shows up on film when you know,
because don't forget you weigh two forty As an edge rusher,
you're giving up, you know, seventy pounds to pretty much

(57:53):
every offensive tackle you're going against right now. They know that,
of course, so you know there's you know there's and
these guys know that and they know how to deal
with it. I like our Mason Thomas but I don't
think he's at the level of prospect is as let's say,
Akeshus Howell, even though he'd fit into the same box.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
Is it Gabe Jackis from Illinois? Is it Jackus? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (58:14):
I think he's more like Zion Young personally. I know
there's a lot of different shatter about him, you know,
and some people really really like him because he's just
you know, he's one of those guys you come away
and go he's a good football player. But I think
he's his game's built on power and physicality more than
higher level athleticism. He's nowhere near as long as Ion Young,
which you know that's a concern. But he's not an

(58:36):
explosive guy. He's kind of more measured and methodical. He's got,
you know, what I call a rugger, rugged and forceful demeanor.
He you know, he plays the way you want a
guy to play, and as a pass rusher, his foundation
would be speed to power, but he really doesn't have
a deep arsenal of moves and counter moves, so you
can teach that. But I see him a little more
as kind of that strong defensive end type, although he

(58:59):
did play a lot of five too at Illinois. So
it's very possible that teams that whose base is a
five to two will see him as a five to
two outside backer.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
Is that basically a Seattle Is I always the Seattle
five to two?

Speaker 6 (59:13):
No?

Speaker 1 (59:14):
Okay, okay, it feels like they have I mean, they
got the two linebackers.

Speaker 8 (59:18):
You know, they look they do a lot of things obviously,
you know, yeah, all.

Speaker 6 (59:22):
Right, they do a lot of things.

Speaker 1 (59:24):
Derek Moore out of Michigan. We saw a lot of
Michigan football the last few years. Hell, we still saw
a lot of Michigan basketball, if I'm not mistaken Greg,
the last few days. Michigan. We live in Michigan's world.
We're in Michigan's world. We're just living in it right now,
I think is what it is. But I do remember
what this is a guy I think with every college
football fan, every football fan knows the name Derek Moore
out of Michigan. He's he's ranked a little lower by most.

(59:44):
I think he probably is a second or third round
pick maybe, so definitely a Day two guy. But what
do you see from Derek Moore?

Speaker 6 (59:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (59:51):
I liked him, and I saw him last summer too.
He's a strong age defender, His game is primarily strength
in power. Now he knows how to use his hands well,
and he's got long arms. I mean he's six four,
two fifty five. His arm length is over thirty three inches.
He knows how to use it in both the run
game and as a pass rusher. He really knows how
to place his hands, you know, without going into the

(01:00:12):
weeds on that they teach you when you use your
first hand strike as a pass rusher, where to put
it on the offensive tackle. And he knows exactly where
to do that, and he can drive guys back into
the pocket. You know, I think he's a four to
three guy, but I think he could be another five
to two guy, if you know, if you see him

(01:00:32):
that way. But I liked his tape. I mean, I
think I think he's You're right, he's just a good player.
He won't go in round one, but he could be
one of those guys that ends up, you know, in
two years, three years, we're talking about Derek Moore being
a starter somewhere.

Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
I'm gonna do this because we just got a couple
of minutes left. Analyst choice, Who do I need to
Who does Seahawk fans need to know? Is it I'm
just trying. I'm going through here.

Speaker 8 (01:00:56):
Is it Krafft further down the road?

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
Crawford from Auburn? Is it? Height from Texas Tech.

Speaker 8 (01:01:02):
He he fascinates me because he has not played.

Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
Guy which one? Which one is that?

Speaker 8 (01:01:07):
And he he's a guy that to me will be
an as sending player because he now, you know, obviously
he played you know, off in opposite folk sometimes they
end up on the same side. But this kid, you're
talking about a kid, now that's juicy. I mean, this
kid's an athlete.

Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
Which kid is that? We give you two names? I'm sorry, Greg,
which which kid is that? Key run Cross from Auburn? Okay?

Speaker 7 (01:01:27):
Perfect?

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 8 (01:01:28):
Yeah, he's he's a sudden, twitchy athlete. He's got explosive
get off. He can instantly challenge the high side. I
mean I think he needs, you know, he needs work
because he didn't play football until his senior season in
high school and then started his career at Arkansas State.
So I mean he's, you know, obviously hasn't played as
much football as most guys when they get to this level.
But I think there's a lot there to develop. And

(01:01:51):
again I don't get to know these players. So I
can't tell you how much he picks up or doesn't
pick up. But you know, if all signs in that
regard are really strong, it would not surprise me if
this guy in two years, three years, we are really
talking about it. Because he is a juicy guy.

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
I like. I like the term juicy by the way,
that sounds good.

Speaker 6 (01:02:10):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
I'm getting thirsty actually thinking about that right now. You know,
we got another we got another think we got another
sponsor called No Brewing. They have a big and juicy beer.
I'm thinking about that right now. What about Dennis Sutton
from Penn State? Do you like him?

Speaker 8 (01:02:24):
I think he's more like Zion Young, you know. I
think he's a good, really good player.

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
Okay.

Speaker 8 (01:02:29):
I think he's gotten a little better as a pass
rusher as he's progressed at Penn State, and he played
that extra year. He could have come out last year.
But I think, but all said and done, he's not
a true pass rusher. So I think he's another one
of those sort of solid defensive ends, like if you
had a big time stud on the other side, and
you know who could rush the quarterback and he played

(01:02:50):
on the other side. You know, he'll defend the run,
he'll set the edge, he'll do all those things that
are obviously critical. But no one gets excited about your
fans I'm talking about. But you know he's a good
football player.

Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
That is great. Co Sal talking about edge rushers. Here,
we'll take a break. Come back. Check your text four nine,
four to five one. That is the Tacoma Dodge text line.

Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
Next from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio.
Now back to Ian Furnez, powered by Seapple's Closest sports book.
Snow call me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
All right, check text one on four five one. That
would be the Tacoma Dodge text line, Anders, Tacoma Dodge.
Let's go here, we go to tank for Juju next
year talking w NBA draft. Okay, oh, she's she set
out the entire year, right, she did. Yeah with the
knee injury because she got hurt in the final four

(01:03:55):
last year. Correct. Yeah, he's a stead Yeah. It doesn't
say something about a league in a sport and the
third overall pick in the draft to describe as being
just Okay, I described Olivia Miles is just okay, I
mean she's I don't know. I will watched enough. It's
probably unfair of me. I just watched the UDUB game,

(01:04:17):
the UB tournament game when they played the TCU. Okay,
like Becker's juju jumped off the jumped off the screen
when you watched him play in college, Right, just jumped
off the screen in college. Angel kind of the same
way in a sense. Right, I mean that's absolutely right.
So anyway, we'll see, we'll probably like I said, I'm

(01:04:39):
gona try to get somebody on tomorrow. Oh, let's see.
Blah blah blah. What do we got here? Apparently MJ
said the other day Friday, I believe that if forget
the Sonics back, we should forgive them, that we should
forgive the thunder. Softy shared his thoughts, what about y'all.
My thoughts are very ernest Jones, Like, if you think
I'll forgive you or forget twenty years no Sonics basketball,

(01:05:01):
blank you, I'd go along those sentiments. Yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (01:05:07):
Don't.

Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
I thought I had a conversation with Mark on air
about in cross talk about the Thunder, but I don't.
I don't think the term forgive was ever used. Yeah,
I think he said, well, you just kind of ignore
move on. I go, well, I think it's an automatic rival,
which I love. I honestly love that. Yeah, I said,
I don't. I don't. I've kind of left them. I

(01:05:31):
just haven't really cared about them the last few years.
The first year they went to the finals, I'll be
honest with you, I was stressed. Yeah, I was rooting
so hard against because that was literally like the team
the Sonics could have been in a few years. That's
why yes, four years after Yes, last year, that's what
it's a totally different tea. You don't even care. Yeah,

(01:05:51):
I just I mean, I'd rather them never win. I
wish they would go to eighty two every year. But
I long long since forgot about that. Not forgave anybody, No,
I don't forgive anybody for that. I mean, we went
twenty years. We're gonna go We're gonna go a minimum
of twenty years without the NBA.

Speaker 9 (01:06:10):
I went my entire sports youth slash formative years without
an NBA team, Right, do.

Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
You think that will affect you how when the NBA
comes Sack.

Speaker 9 (01:06:22):
I would have been a massive fan and still would
have been and now I just don't really you've.

Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Got other interests, yeah, like because like just for for
people like Andrews is a big Premier League guy.

Speaker 9 (01:06:31):
Right, yep, I got soccer. I've been getting into NHL lately.

Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
You I'll give you credit. You not only have you
been getting into it, you've you've developed a pretty good
knowledge of it, Thank you, and a lot of strong
opinions about it. Oh yes, someone which drive me nuts.
But but no, it's but you know what, like you've
you've got other stuff and you're a huge baseball guy.

Speaker 4 (01:06:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
So I think it is an interesting thing because the
NBA when it does come back, what well the you know,
how how will it relate to the younger fans? And
I say it from this standpoint, God, I gotta find this.
There was a thing Dwight James texted yesterday, my buddy

(01:07:12):
Dwight down in Portland, and it was talking about one
of the one of the games last night. I mean
it was embarrassment. What was on the floor, like just
an absolute embarrassment. And I bring that up for this reason.
In what way, like nobody was playing okay, like nobody
was playing. And I think because the first few years

(01:07:36):
the team's going to be bad. Like, understand that the
first few years the NBA team is not going to
be good, Like they're not going to be a Vegas
gold Knights to make the playoffs every year. They're not
even going to be the sadle cracking and make the
playoffs in the second year probably, Like it's probably going
to take a while. But I wonder how that's going

(01:07:56):
to play here with a younger fan base, because the
younger fan base would be enthralled with and I think
a lot of people would be would be like, hey, man,
like I can't wait to watch X play or why play?
Or this guy play? Well if those guys are sitting
out games all the time, especially, think about this, this
is really doomsday thought, Hey, we're coming to Seattle. They're

(01:08:18):
four and twenty five this year. We don't have to
play our dues tonight, right, Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:08:24):
Because the first couple of years, it'll definitely more be
about who they're playing against. I get to see some
of these NBA stars.

Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
And what if you spend a zillion dollars on ticket
and those guys aren't playing? Yeah? Right.

Speaker 9 (01:08:34):
I do like what they did this year though, and
made it a sixty five game minimum to be.

Speaker 1 (01:08:38):
Eligible for awards.

Speaker 9 (01:08:39):
Yeah, and that kind of has made the oh I'm
gonna sit off because of a sora amstring kind of
stuff go away, because especially like the guys that really
want to be eligible for like MVP, Comeback Player of
the Year, all that stuff, you gotta play.

Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Yeah, it's just the way it goes. I'm just like,
I can't find it.

Speaker 7 (01:08:57):
But it was.

Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
It was yesterday. It was like in the last year,
see the last day of the Regulus season.

Speaker 9 (01:09:01):
I get it right, right, and we'll see I mean,
I'll see that in hockey now too, if you look
at some of their lineups that they're putting out because
of teams that are either eliminated or already in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Right yeah, I mean, and but you see it for
the final game or two, right, like you see this
throughout the year in the NBA. Now, I was pointing
out something from yesterday. Sure, but yeah, man, I don't know,
I'm not sure.

Speaker 7 (01:09:20):
It just.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
It's an interesting thing you said there, though I hadn't
thought of it. In most regards to all the people
that are your age that grew up without it around here,
are they just going to roll in and all of
a sudden be huge fans now and here's what so
my son is and he still follows the NBA now right, Yes,
but I think that's because that was his sport. Like

(01:09:43):
he played it. You weren't a basketball kid now, and
like he played it a lot high school, au the
whole nine yards. I think maybe he was more in
tune with it. Yeah, and I but I think, but
not everybody is that. Like if you grew up and
you're a soccer guy, or you're a baseball guy, or
you're just you know whatever guy, you may not be

(01:10:04):
an entralled with.

Speaker 9 (01:10:05):
Well, in full disclosure, durined like the twenty tens, that
Steph Curry, you know, Kevin Durant, Lebron James, you know peak.
I was a pretty big basketball fan. I was watching
the finals every year. I was like all in on that,
the Warriors dynasty, the Scroers when they were like, I
just have lost the last like five or six years
I've lost.

Speaker 1 (01:10:22):
I'll be I'll be interesting. Playoffs start this week. I
love this time of the year. Yeah, when we got
the NBA and the NHL playoffs starting next weekend. I
think the NBA has a playing game the next couple
days too. But yep, yeah, when that gets going, would you, hey,
would you be in favor of playing for the NHL
or not? No? Yeah, I think I don't. I would
this year. Yeah, I think a bigger picture, but I

(01:10:44):
think and I don't want to be a hypocrite because
I said the same thing today. I you finish, if
you finish eighth, you shouldn't have to play a tenth
place team as a playing game. You finished eighth. That's
I think the bigger question in the NHL was would
you go back to one one versus eight? I think
that as opposed to having like two teams that have
well over one hundred points playing Minnesota Dallas, those are

(01:11:06):
probably two of the three best teams in the league. Yeah,
and they're playing each other in the first round, right,
That is crazy to me. I mean, I guess the
only thing and it usually works out most of the
time where the top eight teams usually get in.

Speaker 6 (01:11:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
Now the East could have a little bit different this
year the Eastern Conference NHL may that might not be
the case with the division.

Speaker 9 (01:11:26):
Yeah, because there's a couple of really good East teams
that right west, they would have been in like all
that stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
But if you went yeah, because you just mentioned it,
it's it's kind of an interesting thing. If if you
went with the one versus eight, you'd have Colorado versus
La Dallas versus Anaheim, Minnesota versus Edmonton, which makes a
ton of sense in Vegas in Utah. Although Vegas winning
the division, they might be the NFL like thing, and
they might be the two seeds. So I don't know that. Yeah,

(01:11:51):
it's weird. Yeah, it's weird. The the NBA is interesting. Forgive,
I don't. I don't think when I talked to Mark,
he didn't use that word. Okay, so I will give
because I would say, no, forgive. I'm a petty You
have a very petty individual when it comes to the
NBA and the sonics. Forgive is not in the vocabulary,

(01:12:12):
not the repertoire. No, all right, let's take a preak.
We'll come back. We'll check in with Softy next. Already that,

(01:12:35):
ladies and gentlemen, here he is.

Speaker 7 (01:12:38):
Softy Moller.

Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
The last time we were supposed to do this, it
was canceled because there was a fire alarm going up.

Speaker 13 (01:12:45):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, that would be very annoying.

Speaker 8 (01:12:49):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
It's like the movie Dumb and Dumber, right, Oh yeah,
the most annoying. Well, and that's and that's why we
were looking forward to doing cross talk because it would
have just sent you nuts.

Speaker 13 (01:13:03):
Well, we should do a contest here on the radio station. Okay,
have the alarm go off and have somebody sit here
in the office and see how long they can take
it before their ear start.

Speaker 9 (01:13:11):
I thought you were going to go, how'd the alarm
go off for five minutes? Have softy talk for five minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
And then just what's right out there? You go, Well,
we were on there for eight minutes with an alarm
run off.

Speaker 13 (01:13:21):
But I've always said, and you know this, being the
radio veteran that you are basically means you're old as
you are. Some of the greatest ratings in radio are
when your station's off your ear yes, and people tune
in and they hear dead air and they want to
know when you're coming back. It's unbelievable. I did that
driving home. Oh go what, because I bet you are numbers. Friday,
We're through the roof, I'm listening. I'm listening to some

(01:13:42):
god awful show on Fox. Oh come on, And I
mean it's really bad and whatever whatever would be playing
if you weren't on.

Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
So I'm listened to that thing. I mean it was bad, dude,
I'm just telling you anyway, I'm listening to this and like,
when's Softy coming on? And how is he going to
handle this? Because You're right, I wasn't going to I
had to stop on the way home. I wasn't gonna
get out of the car. I want to hear what
happened when you came on and things weren't working.

Speaker 13 (01:14:05):
Yes, well, and then I was waiting to hear if
it was some kind of a human uh uh forced
malfunction like a Curtis crabtree, a scenario when Curtis spilled
a seven up on the old studio board die Coke,
die Coke wor Donalds, a big one like the jumbo
size one.

Speaker 1 (01:14:24):
H right, like the old Were you here when that happened? Enters?

Speaker 7 (01:14:27):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
I literally that was like the second week that I
was here.

Speaker 13 (01:14:30):
And that cost the radio station like fifteen thousand dollars whatever,
a lot of money.

Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
Terry Ryan, God, what did you do here?

Speaker 11 (01:14:39):
Man?

Speaker 5 (01:14:40):
Come on?

Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
So the did the talk backed button here was stuck?
That was stuck.

Speaker 13 (01:14:44):
Apparently something got stuck inside there. That was Thursday cross time.
Now that was Thursday, so Thursday cross off. That was
back in the day we used to be able to
blame food from New York Vinny's beard. Yeah, getting caught
in the microphone and the old windscreen. Uh the old windscreen,
Uh not like the one we have no one. Yeah,
the foam one discussed that would cover the entire microphone.

(01:15:04):
I would come on at seven o'clock at night, and
I kid you not, the thing was moist, moist, disgusting,
all right. I mean just think of the guys that
were breathing into that all day long. My guest, you know,
Dave Grosby, New York, Vinnie, Michael Knight mitching the midday
back in the day, Michael Night was Brian Wheeler, was it?

(01:15:25):
I mean, dude, you could have a whole dinner plan
just based on what was inside that microphone.

Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
Was that that was Night and Vinnie in the morning
or what it was?

Speaker 13 (01:15:33):
Oh my gosh, Mikey Night, Mikey uh, Michael Knight, New York,
Vinie Richichi uh doing morning shows doing remotes from McDonald's.

Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
So that was fun back in all. Wow, that's awesome.
Is unbelievable would roll in.

Speaker 13 (01:15:47):
I would roll in for a noon show at eleven
fifty nine and go out the door at three oh one, which.

Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
Is kind of what I do now. Yeah, I mean
I can't believe.

Speaker 13 (01:15:55):
Hey, way, No, I'm glad to hear that nothing blew up.
You know that's good. I think we're all good. Big
Jen Raider truck outside the office.

Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
Well, I'm sitting in here and we're waiting to go on,
and like everyone's leaving right, And we've had this happen before.
We had it happen on the other side, the same
building on the side either this is right before COVID
and I remember we walked in and Puck and I
would do the show. And Rich is like, he's like, oh,
you guys are fine. No, it actually wasn't talking. Is

(01:16:23):
me and Shocky and me and Shaky's in the other rooms,
him and I and things going off? Do we need
to leave? And Rich goes, no, you guys are fine.
Purpose she it's like, you guys are fine. Shocky looks
at me, I'm okay, we're fine. We're hanging out here.
And then about ten minutes later, like like literally, a
fireman came upstairs, he goes, you guys need to leave.

Speaker 13 (01:16:40):
Well, you remember this building is cursed. Man, it's not
the first time it's happened. You guys probably watched the
Cheronoble series on HBO. Did you watch that, by the way, Yes,
phenomenal series, fantastic. Right, So there's a there's a part
you're thinking there's a nuclear meltdown here. There's a part
of the series. And I don't know if this is
accurate or not. I assume there's a chance that it is.
Where the Russian government, I guess, asked two people to

(01:17:04):
basically sacrifice their lives to go underneath the reactor and
dig a trench. And they knew that whoever those two
dues were was they were never going to make it out,
and if they did make it out, they were going
to be, you know, basically done right within days.

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
That's what you and Shocky were. That's what we were.

Speaker 13 (01:17:22):
We got to have two people stayed before we're going
to be here, all right, the end the place.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
And that's what I told, Okay, that's why I told
Jim's sacrifice for it has some job. That's that's what
I was telling Jess. Jeff was like just like, we
gotta leave right now. I go, No, we're fine, We're
all good. She goes, They told us to go to
the north end of the building. This is the north end.

Speaker 13 (01:17:40):
When you hear about an electrical fire or whatever it was,
I mean, there is a concern that the building is
going to blow, you know, like you hear about houses
having gas leaks.

Speaker 1 (01:17:48):
I found out. I found out today from.

Speaker 13 (01:17:50):
The fact that you guys were actually hanging outside the
building as close as you were. Shock the hell out
of me, except I'm an Jimmy's I was more than
I The one guy who's got the car left, he
took off, took off for you. But the team player,
I think we're there. You guys are fine. Well, the
funny thing is I coming today in purple, she says.
I said, we're just starting. He goes, Well, you know

(01:18:11):
there's this who was on the second floor. They deal
with chemicals. That's right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
So that sherre noble part that you just mentioned two
floors below us that actually could he I saw something
crawling up the.

Speaker 13 (01:18:22):
Wall last week that may be coming from the second floor. Man,
who knows? So anyway, what do you do today? Last
day of no Dick. We get Dick back tomorrow. Okay, yeah,
so hum Ellon's in today. We're gonna talk to Watson
from the Golf Channel and the Masters obviously recap the
Masters talk about how terrible CBS's camera coverage was yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
Can't find it.

Speaker 13 (01:18:44):
We'll talk to Bill Krueger at five when the Mariner
game is over against the Astros. We'll do a little
fun with audio, little textimonials and uh one.

Speaker 1 (01:18:53):
Of three final cracking games?

Speaker 6 (01:18:55):
Is that?

Speaker 11 (01:18:55):
Right?

Speaker 6 (01:18:55):
Three?

Speaker 7 (01:18:55):
Left?

Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
Last?

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
All?

Speaker 6 (01:18:57):
Right?

Speaker 13 (01:18:57):
Tonight Wednesday, Thursday? Why is tonight's game at six thirty?
Its on ESPN Plus or they can't do seven o'clock.

Speaker 1 (01:19:04):
It's you know, you talk about it for you. I
like being on it. Okay, O, good, you're very happy
about that. No TV, no local TV. So it's a
good night all the way.

Speaker 13 (01:19:16):
Is that why you're here doing a makeup?

Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
Put your foundation on it? You have a makeup person,
by the way, Well she sets us up at the
start of the year, really, and you're gonna wear it
the whole year? Well no, no, she gets us. Here's
here's what we have, like with a kit, Yeah, she says,
here's what you have here's what you gotta put on
your face. Here's how you do it. They got to
match the colors. You gotta match your tone, your skin tone.

Speaker 13 (01:19:42):
I'm not surprised that you need hours, by the way,
to cover that face.

Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
I think I did put makeup on you once. Do
you know that? No, I don't, I do, I don't.
It's for the promo and Fox thirteen.

Speaker 7 (01:19:50):
That never ran. That story was never.

Speaker 5 (01:19:53):
Supposed to come out.

Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
That was a weekend in face, all right. Didn't take
as long to put it on you as it again,
Curtis see for

Speaker 13 (01:19:59):
