Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Boa Steven story is a really good one. I mean,
he's it's it's an interesting dynamic with him ends up
being All American, had some injuries this first couple of years,
healthy as last year, ends up being an All American for Iowa.
The testing is the only thing that knocked him down
to the fifth round. Probably wait for it, short arms,
(00:21):
wait for it, small hands, and not the fastest guy
in the world, but can be a maller, can be
an absolute maller. He talked about that before. Also has
battled ADHD and some mental thing, mental health issues, and
so we're, uh, we're going to talk to him about
that too. As you know on this show, that's a
that's an important thing time to me as well. So
we'll get all that coming up here in the next
(00:42):
couple of minutes. Looking at at some point we may
wrap up a little bit of the NBA conversation from
yesterday as well. There was a lot of feedback. We
posted some stuff on social media, a lot of people
chiming in on it too. It was it was a
it was a hot topic yesterday and I think it's
going to continue to be a hot topic as well
for all of us out here because look.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
The NBA.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
And what they may do in terms of the musical chairs.
There was a thing that came out God, I don't
even know who had it, somebody in Canada Globe and
Mail or somebody had it, which is kind of their
national paper, their Wall Street Journal, talking about the potential
for a relocation and then expansion to Vancouver for the NBA.
(01:28):
I'm like, what are we doing? Like, what are we doing?
Relocation would include Seattle with a team relocated and then
see they're just it's it's you're trying to get as
much as you can. What are we doing? Well, thank you, Taylor.
We do appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
We do.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
We do appreciate that along the way as well. I
don't know, Andrews, I think you think we're all on
the same page, are we not. This is just a
bad idea.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
I just don't see it becoming, like especially like considering
the situation with the white Caps that we talked about yesterday, Right,
how are you gonna say you don't have enough money
to keep you know, build a new arena.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Okay, that's what I think. Like that's yeah, because that
is the story that came out of Vancouver. Rights is
the fact that the and I'm gonna go back like,
I don't think relocation is ever a good thing. No,
we've been through it. Hell, you know what I mean.
I think we tend to for it. We've been through
it twice now. The last time was a one and
done Seattle Pilots in sixty nine, right, Which, if you
(02:24):
just think about that for a second, how absolutely moronic
is that you had one year of Major League No.
Six stadium wasn't good? I get all that. Yeah, why'd
you award a franchise in the first place? But one
and done? And then obviously forty one years of Sonics
basketball and we get nothing out of that as well.
So it's as we're going through this whole process and
(02:47):
waiting to see what happened, you look and see and
you hear something like Vancouver mentioned for an additional franchise. Hell,
they're they're being mentioned for a baseball franchise. And yet
you're gonna tell me this, someone's gonna be abld a
baseball park up there. But you can't old football or
a soccer stadium, and the soccer stadium, what can you do?
Like is it thirty five thousand?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
It's like I'd say thirty five to forty thousand. I
have to double check what BC Place is, but it
needs updating. I went there last year to watch Lionel
Messi take on the white Caps in a Champions League match.
It was fun. Yeah, first time me and my wife
were able to see him play live. But yeah, you
could tell. It's it's a cool like environment. The people
are like around there. It's a great kind of spot.
You feel close to the action. It is a soccer
(03:29):
specific stadium. They don't play other sports. They're like the Sounders.
You can tell they play in a football stadium. Right,
that's not the case there. But it does need some updating.
Like it's just it's you could tell. It's a little
on the older side.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
All right.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Both Stevens I'm told is calling in here in just
a couple of seconds, so we'll get him on. Yeah,
I hell, I think we could use a soccer stadium
here too, but nobody wants to build anything.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
You well might be coming, but that's a whole nother
discussion on his Sounders fans.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
That is a whole different discussion. That is that is
a whole different discussion. So yeah, the NBA, it's I
still find and people been joking and give me a
hard time. Four nine four to five. One, by the way,
is the Tacoma dotch text line.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
You can go.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Feel free to call in text in on that as well.
But my whole refuse to talk with that. I know
we've got a lot of grief on it, a lot
of pushback. I get that, but listen, end of the day,
I'm watching What's best on at night. So all right, hey,
joining us right now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline, Bo
Stevens Seattle Seahawk Draft pick All American Guard out of Iowa.
(04:26):
It joins us right now for the first time here
on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM, home of
the Twelves here in Seattle. Bo, thanks for jumping on
first and foremost. We were there on Saturday at the
Virginia Mason Athletic Center, so we got a chance to
hear you on the speakerphone and talk to you. But
I'll officially say this on live airwaves here in Seattle
with all the twelves out here. Welcome to Seattle. Congratulations,
(04:47):
I'm becoming a Seattle Seahawk.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah, appreciate it. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Tell me the process of a draft and waiting in
your day three and you're kind of waiting to get
the call. I think it's always a fun conversation how
did the call come, where'd you see it coming from?
And and kind of walk us through that, because you know, listen,
in so many ways, to get draft in the NFL's
got to be just one of the incredible things for
anybody to go through.
Speaker 5 (05:13):
Yeah, for sure, Yeah, no, I was. I was honestly
thinking I was gonna go day two. So I was
like sweat and nervous second day and then third Like
I didn't go in the second day, so I was like,
all right, I'm guessing maybe early tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
And then woke up the next day didn't go.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
In the fourth round, and I'm like, shoot, what's happening?
Like did my name get lost on the board or something?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
So then I was just like sweating profusely, like looking
at my parents like, okay, is this Am I not
gonna good draft?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Who knows?
Speaker 5 (05:51):
I thought it was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I see all the teams that had.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Me like higher up on their boards, They're like picking
the other guys, and then then I see like a
gap of like picks where I'm like, yeah, all these
teams really didn't talk to me, didn't really say they
like to me, at least to my agent. And then
all of a sudden, I'm like, okay, let me just
scroll on my phone a little bit, well, like on
Instagram or Twitter or something, and then I'm getting a
(06:21):
call from Washington. And my first thought I was like, okay,
this is like I saw Washington like commanders. Yeah, I
guess I'm going to Washington. So my parents all think
it's Washington, DC. And then I hear Kirk Parrish. She's like, yeah,
with the Seahawks, And I'm like trying to tell my parents, like,
(06:43):
it's not Washington, it's not the Commanders, it's actually the Seahawks.
Washington me like twenty picks ahead of time because I
didn't even see him on the screen. And so then
they told me, yeah, we traded up to get you,
and they hadn't even shown them my tea.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah. I was like, holy crap, that's pretty dank.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Cool, yeah, very cool, very cool.
Speaker 5 (07:07):
Yeah, but yeah, no, I was like if I have
a video of it, but like you can see me,
like I'm sweating through my shirt there, like I'm sitting
in my chair that I'm sitting in right now. It's
a new like lazy boy thing. But I'm like sweating
profusely because I'm like kind of worried about like how
far how much longer is.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
This going to take?
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Because I I, I just wanted to go date two
just because I didn't want to wait that long.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I didn't want to.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
Like have to wake up the next day and be like, okay,
like now it's this day. I wanted to go on
Friday so I could get out of that like headspace
of just not knowing what's going to happen. But yeah,
that was pretty cool. Pretty cool story is. It was
cool that they traded up for me, and I was
really appreciative of it.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
But uh, like.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
They posted a bunch of videos on Instagram recently of
like the phone call between us, and everyone's like I'm
reading comments and this thing like this guy does not
sound excited at all. I was surely in shock. I
was like I didn't even think that was an option
anymore because I did even see them on the screen
at all, and so like I didn't even know how
(08:10):
to react really post them like listening in like to
them on my phone, not on speaker, so like I
can barely hear them, so I'm trying to get my
family path like my fiance, to be quiet so I
can actually hear properly. But yeah, I really did not
know what to say. It was just a really cool
feeling though, to have that call going through.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Though I think it's awesome. It's an awesome story. It
also tells you something, does it, not that the Seahawks
from Seattle, Washington, not DC, which trust me, we get
that confused all the time, that they traded a fourth
round pick next year to get you in the fifth round.
And they said, hey, this guy's there, we saw them,
we got to go get him, like in terms of
the old trade value and all that stuff that doesn't
normally happen. So they must think quite highly of you,
(08:53):
which kind of mean something nice to you as well.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
No, I was just really appreciative that they were willing
to do that for me. You know, it makes you
feel good for sure.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Most Steven's joining us here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Bo,
You've been very public about something that's near and dear
to our hearts here on this show, on this radio station.
We work quite a bit with mental health awareness. Lensky's
hope very intimate for us and impersonal for us. You
talked about your ADHD and some struggles with with mental
health issues and challenges. I'll open it up for you.
(09:27):
Not everyone wants to come forward with things like that.
Why did you come forward? And why are you so
open about it?
Speaker 5 (09:34):
You know, when you're going through it, like you kind
of don't want to like let anybody know. But it's
kind of a pride thing. I'd say, like after you've
gone through the hardship and like trying to figure out
your entire life and trying to figure out how you're
going to like wake up each day and what kind
of mentality and perspective you're going to have, It's kind
(09:54):
of it's more of like a pride thing now where
it's like I'm super open about it because I want
people to know that I got that chip on mar
I've got that I've went through things like that when
it comes to mental health. And I think people really
relate with that because a lot of people will not
really talk about it, but they definitely experienced that at
some point in their life. So I think people see
(10:17):
you differently. They trust you. There's a little more credit
to what you say, just because like if you're that
open about it, like how I've been and how I've
been with like guys at IOWA and younger guys whenever
they're coming up in the program and trying to to
not self like me diagnose them, but be like, Okay,
(10:39):
this is how you're thinking, this is your mentality.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
This is where it needs to shift.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
And I think people just respect you a lot more
because of that.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
I agree.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I think it's in well said, man, and good for
you both, Stevens joining us. The chip on the shoulder
came into play in the Senior Bowl of famous play.
And by the way, I'm a father of a former
college offense lineman and like to me, like I'm a
fan of off You don't win every battle, and the
hard thing about an offensive lineman, as you well know,
you didn't give up a sack. I should point out
your last three years. So that's that's first and foremost.
(11:10):
But you will get beat. The only time people notice
you is you guys get beat. You got beaten a
one on one drill. Normally you go to the back
of the line. That's how the rotation works. You said,
screw it, I want to go again. Plus, you were
playing center, so you're snapping the ball and then you
buried the dude on the next play. I know that
got a lot of people's attention. You win some, you
lose some along the way. How important was it for
you to step right back up?
Speaker 3 (11:33):
You know?
Speaker 5 (11:33):
Like that was my first time really like repping center
in one and once, and so I just kind of
got caught in one of like as you said, like
sometimes you just get beat. I got caught with the
long arm and got a little lost balance, and so
I was like, okay, I don't want people to think
that that's normal. You know, I'll get like completely just
(11:54):
blown backwards. So I was like, okay, let me have
another rep ad this Like I was some place the
guy like I don't understand why he even agreed to
like take the rep again, because he should have known
by them, Like Okay, this guy's this guy's kind of
serious about this, Like you don't you don't piss off
the bear, you know, like that's kind of the thing.
(12:17):
But yeah, No, I just wanted to show, like, okay,
like that I'm playing center for the first time in
the Senior Bowl. I'm snapping and then having to punch
Like it's not what I usually do and it's not
what I've usually done, but I want to show that
like okay, Like it's not about what rep you lost,
it's about how you kind of finished the whole process.
(12:39):
And that's kind of how Iowa's culture is, especially if
watching the Iowa football games, like we're not going to
blow the like the score is not going to be
fifty to nothing first half, like it's usually tight games,
and it's all about being the one that responds and finishes.
And so that's kind of just how I see things,
and that's how I kind of I felt about that.
(13:00):
I was like, Okay, I just want to finish this thing,
show him that, Like okay, I'm not just gonna let
that slide.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
I love it you describe yourself as a maller. I'll
wrap it up here in the final thirty seconds. I
love when you said as a guard, I'm a maller.
That's what I want to do. I think what that
Senior Bowl proved as well. What are you looking to
do when you come to Seattle in terms of style
of play?
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Yeah, you know, like I get to have this experience
again where I get a tinker on my play style again,
because that's what I had to do for the first
few years Iowa was tinkering from a high school football
player to a college football player. I think I'm always
going to be that run game heavy type guy where
he really appreciates whenever we just get down and berry
(13:43):
and in between the lines, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
But I think there's.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
More of that technical aspect of past pro that isn't
as emphasized Iowa football just because we don't throw the
ball fifty times a game. But I'm going to have
enjoyment and fun like experiencing and learning from these older
guys and knowing that in the NFL, like they passed
the ball a lot more and this is going to
(14:10):
become more prevalent, and so that full experience of being
able to tinker my play style not just a run
moller with a very simple set, but also has like
a couple more tools in the back, you know, when
it comes to pass pro boll.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
I love the story. Seayork fans do as well, and
I've really enjoyed this conversation. We do this often and
talk to guys. I look forward to meeting you in
person and again getting to see you play and coming
up this weekend, you're coming up here. We'll see at
Mini Camp Friday and Saturday. But congratulations again to you
and your family. Long journey and it really only begins
coming up this weekend, So congrats bo.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, appreciate it, TK you.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
That's both Stevens from Iowa. Will take a break. Steve
Palozolo wraps up the Seahawk Draft.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
Coming up next, we're diving into the numbers in the
grades around the NFL with Steve Pelozolo from the thirty
third team. Brought to you by Georgetown Brewing Teproom, open
seven days a week from ten am to eight pm,
makers of Many's Paleo, Buddy's Out the IPA, and the
(15:14):
new domestic style Lagger Tavern Beer. Your place to go
for local, tasty craft beer. Now with Ian here's Steve Pelzolo.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
All right, Steve Pelozolo joins us final scheduled visit before
the fall. When we check back in with him, of course,
check the Mic podcast thirty thirteen. Listening to the check
the Mic podcast all the draft recap good stuff gets
me through my long commutes. Hello sir, how are.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
You doing great? Appreciate you having me again.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
Well, let's we're gonna I'm gonna kind of focus obviously
Seattle wise, but also kind of the other two teams
that matter in the NFC West and no Arizona. I'm
not talking about you, althoughy to listen to on your podcast.
I think the consensus was Arizona had about his bat
A draft. I guess as you could have, so good
for them upward and onward. Apparently for the Arizona Cardinals.
(16:06):
Let's start with Seattle. I thought you nailed it, like
you and Sam nailed it because sitting in the room
with John Schneider and Mike McDonald on Thursday afterwards, they
took they took Jadarian Price, but they didn't want to
take him there, And you guys kind of saw it
as well. What'd you make of the fact that Seattle
couldn't get out of that thirty second pick.
Speaker 7 (16:27):
Yeah, I don't think he was hiding the fact that
he wanted to trade down, accumulate more picks and end
up having to pick at both thirty two and sixty four.
Such as life when you win a Super Bowl, right,
you know, picking at thirty two is not the worst
thing in the world. When you know what just happened,
But yeah, I think in an ideal world, I think
every team would rather take their preferred player ten picks later.
But you know, I just didn't. I think he mentioned
(16:50):
all of the teams ahead of him. They all traded,
I mean everybody from like twenty six, twenty five, all
the way to thirty one. There were trades left and right,
so there was a lot of movement at that point.
I think they just ran out of trade partners and
teams that wanted to trade up. Titans had moved up
to thirty one right in front of them, and I
think they just they just ran out of people to
trade with and ended up taking price. Who I know
(17:12):
some people had in some preseason mocks, but just filled
the need and got their running back and got out
of there.
Speaker 8 (17:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
I think they kind of got caught in the wake, right,
like a boat. They just got caught in the wake
there and there was nothing to do. San Francisco moving
down not once, but twice. That's a very John Schneider
like move that John Lynch pulled off. And you know
they said he said afterwards, I mean he you know,
I don't know if you saw the quote and you
got his thirty two teams to worry about, but his
he told us afterwards, he said, yeah, there's no we
wanted to move down. We thought we had something going
(17:39):
and couldn't do it. I think they felt I think
they felt like they could get that player in Price
just in the second round. I think that was kind
of their whole their whole thought process there, and it
didn't work out, but they got the player they liked.
So let's talk about the player. Jadarian Price number two
running back at Notre Dame, but the number two draft pick.
As far as running backs as well.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
Yeah, he's he's a good runner. I mean, I think
it's a it's a tricky draft for running backs. Last year,
I thought the running back class was loaded. We saw
Jeremiah Love go go super early. We knew Price was
going to be at least in the late first or
the second round mix, and then after that there was
not even a clear running back three.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
I liked, you know, Joe.
Speaker 7 (18:15):
Nicoleman he goes in the fourth round. I mean, there
was there was not a lot of running back options.
So I think part of the strategy was, Man, you
come in with this massive need at running back, you
at least have to get somebody and they get the
consensus number two running back. I think on a positive sense,
the fact that Price does not have a massive workload
in college I think is huge. You don't have to
(18:36):
worry about the wear and tear. The other thing I've
used in his favor is the fact that Jeremiah Love
we all agree that he's special, like he's He went
in the top ten and went number three for a reason,
just like some of those other guys in recent years
be John Robinson, Ashton genty. But the fact that Jadari
and Price was able to even steal some carries from him,
I think speaks to his talent because if you were
(18:56):
just a college football fan, you'd be saying, why isn't
Jeremiah Love get more, more, more touches here? And it's like, yeah,
because Price can run too, and you saw some big playability.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
He's tough to tackle. I think he's got great contact balance.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
He's got a couple freakish contact balance plays on film,
good good after contacts both as a runner and as
a receiver, even though he's limited from a you know,
receiving opportunity standpoint. So yeah, I think he's I think
he's aid a solid Ken Walker replacement who's gonna, you know,
run the ball hard between the tackles, a little bit
of big playability, and then we'll see what he can
(19:31):
do from a pass game perspective.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
The Seahawks is Steve Pelasula joining us checked the Mic
podcast thirty thirteen. They then, as you mentioned, they couldn't
trade out out of the second round either. They take
that last pick in the second round, number sixty four
overall with Bud Clark. But they get a guy slightly built,
not big. He did came in. He came into us afterwards, Steve,
and he said, yeah, hey, I want to be like
(19:53):
Cam Chancer. I want to be the hammer, not the nail.
He's not built like Cam Chanceller by any stretch of
the imagination. He's about thirty five pounds forty pounds less
than Cam was. But he's kind of built like a
slighter version of Earl Thomas, kind of a ball hawk.
And away we go. Bud Clark is safety from TCU thoughts.
He's a very fun player.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
My podcast partner Sam absolutely loves him.
Speaker 7 (20:15):
My notes are kind of fun because I said he
usually takes the most aggressive angle whatever it may be,
and sometimes that means, you know, picking the pass off,
creating a play on a play on the ball. Sometimes
it means overrunning the play. But I also said he's
willing to run through somebody's face. So there's your Cam
Chancellor in him. I think he's I'm fascinated by the two,
(20:36):
the first two Bud Clark and then Julian Neil, the
safety and corner that they got off the board because
they think they add some physicality to the secondary hard
hitting ability that Bud Clark's trying to bring to the table. Again,
he'll leave some tackles on the table. He'll miss some plays,
but he's been a ball hawk, made a lot of plays,
runs for four, a fun coverage player who's been pretty
productive at TCU.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
When you watch him play, it feels like versatility is
a key here because you know they lose Kobe Bryant,
still have Julian love Tyle Conna played well for them
last season in that other safety role. And yes, I
guess NICKI Min Worry is listed as a safety, but
we kind of know he's more of a Sam linebacker
and you know big Nickel and all those things. So
where where does Bud Clark, do you think fit in
(21:18):
the Mike McDonald defense.
Speaker 7 (21:21):
Well, he played, He played in the box a lot,
he played salot a lot, he played safety. I mean,
he did a little bit of everything. I think it
just adds more versatility. I think he can play.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Again.
Speaker 7 (21:32):
He's he's a willing tackler. He'll miss a few, but
he's willing to get in there and mix it up.
So I think he could play in the box a
little bit. I think he's got some range on the
back end. Again, it's just going to be about tightening
up I think his aggressiveness and figuring out the best balance.
But I think he can do a little bit of everything,
and I think that's just another really nice piece to
the defense where the position flexibility just gives McDonald even
(21:54):
more weapons in the secondary.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
Steve, you mentioned Julian Neil. Let's talk about him. I'll
tell you this. His post drafted conference call with the
way the Seahawks. They have a speaker phone set up
in the front of where we're all at in the
media room. It's a big it's the big, one of
the big meeting rooms with the team, and we sit
up there and they call in and Julian Neil calls
in and this dude was full. I mean, we were
(22:16):
talking about it. In the seventeen years that John Schneider
has been drafting, and we've done it kind of the
same format.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Guys call in.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
I don't ever remember a guy calling in and having
that much swagger, that much just he had a lot
to say, uber confident, called himself the best most physical
corner in the draft, and kind of went on and
on and like not even Richard Sherman had that. And
the funny thing is Steve like Sherman, a converted wide receiver.
But boy, if this guy's game is half of what
(22:43):
his talk is, he's gonna be something else.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
It's funny when some of it.
Speaker 7 (22:47):
There's some similarities I think between Neil and Bud Clark
because when I was watching him, the same thing like
ballhawk wants wants the ball. He's got great length, and
I think when you look at what they're losing and
Reek Wollan and how they're you know, a couple of
their corners are on the smaller side. I think he
just adds a different dynamic to the secondary with his size.
As you know, over thirty three h arms, you know,
(23:08):
throw back to the old school Seattle three type of
body types like Greek Wollan was. And then he wants
the ball and he takes chances on the ball and
sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work. But he's aggressive,
just like Bud, and I think there's an element of
they've got this raw talent and skills. I think he
runs fast enough, but he's better Neil when he's you know,
keeping contact along the route because he's not gonna he's
(23:31):
not suirm four six range, but he's out about four
to five and you know, probably wants to be a
little bit more physical down the field. But it's interesting
because I think they're both doing whatever they can to
break up passes, to force turnovers and figuring out how
Mike McDonald's gonna maybe temper some of that aggressiveness and
get the most out of them.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
But I think Neil's got a lot of tools.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
The more I watched him, I was thinking, Yeah, some
teams are gonna love him, you know, his ability to
press and be physical and be physical at the catch point.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
So to like about Julian Neal.
Speaker 7 (24:01):
He's been of a late bloomer at Arkansas, So see
what they could do with them, But yeah, I thought
that was pretty good, a pretty good pick there.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
In the third.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Kind of a weird deal steven later on day three,
so they don't have a fifth or a seventh round pick,
and then all of a sudden, John Schneider and I'll
let you just kind of speak to this, because you
guys had a great job articulating on the podcast. That's
what John Schneider kind of got busy. I mean he
traded down for Julian Neil a little bit. That was
one move. But then after that, like day three, It's
(24:29):
funny he walked into the room. We were doing a
radio show at nine and in the morning, and you know,
nine am Pacific, So right when the draft started, they
didn't have a scheduled pick until the sixth round, and
we're kind of waiting to see what they're going to do.
And we got the impression from him just kind of
ambling around trying to kill time, going stir crazy, that
that was it. They weren't going to do anything. About
an hour fifteen minutes later, all of a sudden, they
(24:49):
trade a fourth round pick next year for a fifth
round pick this year to get Bo Stevens, and you know,
obviously trade value maybe isn't there, but they obviously saw
a player they wanted.
Speaker 7 (25:01):
Yeah, that's the one thing I'll say next year's class
is the post loaded. Now at the top, it's definitely
loaded with blue chips. I'm not really sure how it's
gonna shake out in the middle rounds, but there's a
chance that's a little riskier where the NFL thought that
this year's draft was a little bit weaker. But Bo Stevens,
I think he brings some guard center versatility. I was
telling on our show the story from the senior ball
(25:23):
where he was playing center.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
You know, he played guard at Iowa.
Speaker 7 (25:26):
He's playing center and he got smoked by somebody I
want to say Daryl Jackson from Florida State, got absolutely
smoked on a rep on one on ones, and he
got right back up. He grabbed the ball. He said,
let's go. Let's do it again. And when you're doing
one on one reps, it's usually all right, next man up,
the center goes in the right guard than the right tackle,
and it's just they cycle through. But Bo gets up there,
calls him out again. He says, let's go rematch, and
(25:48):
they let him do it, and they go and he
just smoked him and he got his revenge and it
was one to one and the whole offense was going nuts.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
I thought it was great.
Speaker 7 (25:55):
It was just a great little moment during practice, during
those one on ones where transitioning to center, he's getting
a few reps in a lot of guys do that
at the Senior Bowl, show some guard center versatility, and
I think he immediately showed he could learn from his
mistake and adjust and income right back. So I thought
that was a lot of fun. I think you bring
some rotational value there. And then Andre Fuller in the
(26:16):
seventh was another guy that really showed up in my
draft projection metrics as as a good, solid round seven
type of pick.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
So just trying to add some volume. It's good to
just take some shots.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
You never know, and if they sneak a backup corner,
a backup guard and special team player or two.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Out of those late rounds, I think those are wins.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Well, let's talk about the two teams, you know, I mean,
I think it's you know, it's probably safe to say.
I mean, you look through what happened that in the
playoffs last season, and the Seahawks had probably the second
best team in the NFL that they had to deal
with in their own division. So let's talk about the
Los Angeles Rams, and especially the Ty Simpson pick, because
(26:55):
that's the one everyone was talking about. They had a
chance to upgrade that defensive line. Ruben Bins, you were
sitting there and you could have paired in with Fisk
and Verse. That would have been terrifying. They had some
of the things they could have done. They went Simpson
instead and a tight end a tackle late. I mean,
it was just an interesting draft. What'd you guys make
of what the Rams did? Yeah, I mean, there's a
(27:15):
lot to talk about on this one. I would say
I think a lot of the public sentiment about McVeagh
was mad.
Speaker 7 (27:21):
I mean, there was a lot of overreaction and nonsense
going out there. But I think it was a tactical move,
and I think it's fair to ask both sides of it.
You know, did they sacrifice the next year or two
of having one extra player McKay lemon at receiver, ruben
Bain on the edge, whoever you want.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
And they'll be thinking about that.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
I mean, I think the fans will be thinking about
that forever, no matter what happens with Ty Simpson. What
if you had one Ruben Bain, what if you had
one Mackay Lemon versus the future? And I think you
have to properly weigh those two things. The two examples
I used on our show, Aaron Rodgers when they drafted
Jordan Love. Let's say they made the best possible pick
and it was wide receiver T Higgins. He was the
next receivers were off the board, and it was a
(28:01):
big need for the Packers That year, well, they lost
in the NFC Championship by five. The following year they
lost in the divisional rounds, both at home. And you know,
would T Higgins have put them over the top for
one last run, one last Super.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Bowl run for Aaron Rodgers? Maybe? Who knows?
Speaker 7 (28:17):
And then honestly, wood Packers fans sacrifice that or would
they would they take that in exchange for the security
at the quarterback position that they got by drafting Jordan Love.
And so the the QB side of that's probably the
best case scenario and probably what the Rams are looking for.
Right they take another shot with Stafford year two, whatever
it is, and then you have, you know, year three
(28:38):
of Ty Simpson or year four of Ty Simpson, and
he's been in the system and you just you just
keep it going and you're.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Thinking long term.
Speaker 7 (28:45):
But I do wonder along the way, if they lose
close games in the playoffs, are they looking back saying, man,
if we just had one more pass rusher. And it's
not that you're even one player away, it's just what
would one Ruben Bain do for you? What would one
Makai Lemon do? Like, what would that help your depth?
Or just to play here and there along the way.
I think that's a fair question. And the Rams said,
we'll take the long We'll take the long term approach
(29:08):
where we have a great roster right now.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
I think they're in great shape for this year. Yeah,
I'm great shape for this year. Yeah. And then just
and but they're taking the long term approach with Simpson.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Well, they addressed their biggest need in the offseason by
signing McDuffie and to get you know, the McDuffie and
Watson additions at the corner of those two guys, I
mean that that helped them a lot of the other guys,
Claire Trouse, Tross, however you want to call it. Daniels Keenan,
any of those guys jump out at you.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
Yeah, my draft projection model loves Keegan Tross who's you know,
he was a tackle at Missouri, probably projects inside at
the next level.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Model loved him, Model loved CJ. Daniels.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
So I think for third, fourth, fifth, sixth round, they
they usually do a pretty good job of bringing in players.
They've been the best, you know, Day three drafting team
in the NFL for the last decade. That's the one
other piece that we brought up. I know, they traded
a first rounder for Trent McDuffie and he's going to
be there for a few years. But the the Rams
usually draft in volume. That's the other one place where
I think they could be a little bit fragile in
(30:04):
the coming years. They've only drafted like nine times or
ten times the last two years, not a lot, and
that's the type of thing that ends up coming back
to bite two or three years down the road. So
Max Claire at tight end, I like Daniels, Trost, I
like the players that they've brought in, but they've they've
drafted in low volume and taken a chance by you know,
going with Ty Simpson as the long term quarterback option here, All.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Right, we'll wrap it up, Cepels all over this with
the forty nine ers traded down twice all the way
out of the first round. Then the first pick of
the second round they take Deshaun Stribbling, former Wazoo, Oklahoma
State and Ole miss wide receiver. Big guy, not the
best hands if I remember right from my Kuper fandom days.
And then they go from there with an edge rusher.
They get the I think it was the next running
(30:46):
back off the board, right, Kaylon Black from Indiana, and
away we go. What'd you make of what the forty
nine ers did? Well?
Speaker 7 (30:53):
They were a hot button issue because they went off
the proverbial consensus board the most. They had the most
surprising picks. I would say in the NFL, is them
the Jaguars and the Texans. Des Stribbling, you know, after
trading down twice, taking him at the beginning of the
second he was thought to be maybe sneaking into the
second round, and he goes at pick thirty three. He's
got speed, he's had size, he's a good player. Just
(31:15):
everybody expected him to go later, interested to see what
the Niners do with him. At the very least they're
adding another difficult cover to Mike Evans, Rocky Piersoll, George
Kittle what they already have there, and they've done a
really nice job developing receivers. They have Juwan Jennings on
his way out, so Stribbling has a pass to the field.
Romelo Height and Grayson Halton I think can both improve
(31:35):
the pass rush. They've been really weak up front, so
it had a lot of injuries last year. But Height,
he's a little bit older, a little bit undersized, but
he's got some juice off the edge. He could challenge
the edge. They don't really have that other than Nick Bosa,
who's been battling injuries, so I think Height adds something
they don't have. And Grayson Halton more of an undersized
interior pass rusher. Again, they got bigger last year and
tried to stop the run with a couple of young
(31:57):
defensive tackles. I think Halton improves their into your pass rush.
So those are intriguing players. Kaylin Black is just the
next in line of Kyle Shanahan, Love's third fourth round
running backs to see if he can develop them.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
It doesn't usually work out, so we'll see with Black
this time.
Speaker 7 (32:12):
And then I know my guy Sam loved Ephesians price
sock from Washington and his his size, movement skills for
his size, and the way he showed up at the
at the Senior Bowl. So left him as a fourth
round pick as well. So it's an interesting draft, it's
gonna be. It took a lot of heat because some
of those picks were surprising.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Along the way.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I'll wrap it up quickly with this, Steve, just your
your thoughts overall on those three teams in the in
the NFC West, as we now kind of have rosters
fairly complete, we could still see a foul sighting at
Dante Fowler sighting in Seattle for the Seahawks. But when
it's all said and done, pecking orders still kind of
the same. Take your pick pick them between the Rams Seahawks,
maybe the Rams roster slightly ahead and then Seattle San Francisco.
(32:52):
How would you look at it?
Speaker 7 (32:54):
Yeah, I try to know my audience, so I'm not
going to come out here and say the Rams are
the favorite area. I would say I was saying that
until the craziest two point conversion in history turns the
division around late last year. So I think the Rams
are in as good a shape as any team in
the NFL. Obviously, Seattle's in the mix too, but I
think Seattle took a little bit more of a depth
hit than the Rams did. The Rams were able to
(33:17):
shore up their secondary made some aggressive moves, So yeah,
I think they're the one two punch obviously in the West.
I would never count the Niners out because even though
I think they've had a couple of years of weaker
drafts and they've got some questions on the defensive line
and changing defensive schemes, and it's just Kyle Shanahan's always
been so good if as long as his starter's healthy,
they've been in the mix.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
So it's still a three team race.
Speaker 7 (33:39):
And Arizona, even though we didn't love the Jeremiah Love pick,
it's gonna be tough to cover all those guys, and
once they figure out quarterback in the next year or two,
I think they'll be you know, more difficult.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
But clearly they're in you know, their number four.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
But I think it's pretty close to the top with
those top three teams, giving maybe given the Rams a
slight edge.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Even though I know I'm in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
I love it. Hey, we appreciate this. We'll look forward
to kind of setting something up in the fall with
you this year and the last year kind of weird,
got weird, but we we extended the short show to

Speaker 1 (35:12):
I like Steve. I want to get him on. I
felt like we were missing something without him.

We'll wrap up the well, we'll kind of talk about
a little bit about both stemons here in just a
couple seconds at the top of the hour. And then
at one twenty today Greg Cosell his final visit of
the year. Speaking of guys, we love having on. Greg
joins us on Fridays during the football season in the
(36:53):
lead up to the draft and post draft, which would
be today. We have Greg on on Wednesdays and enjoy
his insight and whatever the tape tells us. That's all
he can do, is whatever the tape tells us. We
can get him on in that regard as well. One
forty five kind of a cool thing today with the
Kraken in the city of Kirkland a new venue being
opened as well, so we can we can take a
(37:15):
peek at that. I didn't get to all the texts yesterday.
I'll just I'll wrap up our NBA conversation. Andrews and
I were kind of doing that as we're waiting for
both Stevens, and then he called in the feedback. Even
our guy Mike Benton does a great job of posting
stuff on social media, and I just looked at some
of the feedback from like Instagram and other places. I
(37:37):
think we're all on the same page. No, no, no, no,
on any thought that this knucklehead would bring the Portland
Trailblazers here, like just that's a that's a non starter
for everybody, I think, And I think that's the that
seems to be a consensus. We don't agree on a
lot of things anymore in this world. But if Tom
(37:57):
Dundan decides he wants to bring the Blazers here or someone, yeah,
it's just no. And I just think it's such a
long shot. I don't think it would ever happen. And
then anytime I think things like that, I go to myself.
Well wait a second, hmm, let me think Check's notes. Yes,
forty one years and the Sonics left, so he may
(38:19):
try to move that basketball team. And he is a
cheap skate, make no bones about it.
Speaker 9 (38:25):
He's pretty public.
Speaker 2 (38:27):
I just I.
Speaker 10 (38:29):
He No.
Speaker 4 (38:32):
I think my.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Bigger issue is, and this is just goes back bigger picture.
NBA the people they let in their club is just odd.
You know, in reality, Clayton Bennett didn't have the financial
wherewithal still really doesn't. I mean, they've got some building
issues there in Oklahoma City. Winning helps, selling out games helps,
and really the media, right steel helps. The NBA has
(38:55):
probably the second most lucrative behind well not probably, they
do the second most lucrative television and media rites steal,
behind only the NFL. So you're able to, you know,
get some people in there that probably wouldn't be that way.
I heard Softy and Fame yesterday talking about the Seahawks situation,
and would Jody and have any say over it? I don't.
I think the answer is no. My understanding is and
(39:15):
this is even how like this is how the Sonic
situation is working out. Perhaps the league's broker those deals.
You know Tom Dundon, his deal would have been broker
by the NBA. And that's how it works. They go
through there is it the highest bid, it's it's what
the league owners want. There's an ownership committee and they
(39:37):
decide who's going to be if there's multiple bid or
they decide and then they bring it to a full vote.
But it is, you know, Softy and Dick brought it up.
I mean there is. You could probably have some trepidation
and wonder whoever it is that they let into the
NFL club and when they when they sell the estate
of Paul Allen's state, will they have the same commitment
(40:00):
to the community or not to tigue in the team
Here the team the Seahawks, we can definitely say aren't leaving,
but would they have the same commitment to excellence in
terms of what they spend in the organization. Now, again,
it's a salary cap league. You're not spending over the cap.
NBA is a little bit different because you can spend
past the cap luxury tax that's a whole different.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Yeah. The argument thing with Dundon and saying that he
wants to put the money and the team on the
ice with Carolina like, yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
It's a hard cap. It's a hard cap, and everyone
spends to the cap. They're giving him credit for something
he shouldn't get credit for. No, right, But in the
NFL is the same way, Like you spend to the cap. Basically,
what the NFL does do is like do you spend
money elsewhere? Like everything the Seahawks do was first class,
including renovating the the I mean, they just spent a
ton of money last year, renovating the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, downstairs,
(40:45):
weight room, training facility, all the stuff that you like
if you're ever at the BERM, if you ever go
to a practice at training camp and you look across
towards Lake Washington far right bottom corner of the building,
that was all renovated last year. They spent a lot
of money on that. In terms of how they treat
their employees, how they treat the players, it's all first class,
one thousand percent first class. I mean, LUNs told us
(41:07):
stories about what it was like with the Raiders in Oakland.
It was no good, right, So yeah, you do hope
that they keep that same level because that also helps
attack free agents, not just because what you pay him,
but also because what the facility is like and how
are they treated. That stuff all gets around. So a
Tom Dunden buying the Seahawks would be a little bit
of a terrifying thought. I would hope the NFL will
be doing a better job than the NBA seems to do.
I think the NBA just like, yeah, well they're not
(41:30):
going to bring him in. But I mean it's just like,
just don't bring that him. Yeah, in terms of bigger picture.
All right, well, come back, we'll wrap up our conversation.
We'll talk a little bit about what we heard from
both Stevens and then get ready for Greg Cosel coming
up next.

NHL Oilers and Bruins stave off elimination with wins last
night in the Stanley Cup Finals. Bruins doing it in

Speaker 6 (42:18):
Ooo Ooo.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
Oilers just boat raced Anaheim score score may not look
that way. Boo. They were up three to nothing on
eight shots to start the game. Is that good if
you're Anaheim? No, Lukash, you will still stall got yanked,
Spurs eliminate the trouble Aers move on to the second round. Yeah,
(42:43):
seventy six or still alive. With the win versus Celtics,
Jess will say, boom, Boston still leaves that serious. Three
games to two.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
They had that.
Speaker 10 (42:52):
NBA I still think is a more of an entertainment product.
It doesn't surprise me that that happened because the Celtics
were winning the entire game.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Oh what are you saying? It's fricks? Are you saying
it's fixed? Yes, you're thanking.
Speaker 9 (43:03):
You're saying it is an entertainment product. The longer the
series go, the more the entertainment.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
Wow. That sounds like Mike talking.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
It was a fix.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
The fix was in last night against with Boston and

just over under an hour ago, we have both Stevens
on from Iowa. I just want to go back and
revisit that for a second. It's a fun time of
the year. We get to meet these guys. A couple
guys have already been on today. I think I think
it was Andre Fuller and Emmanuel Henderson seventh and sixth
round picks, respectively, been on the shows with the Morning
Show and also with Greg Bell. Greg and I, by
the way, We'll be at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center
on Friday to do the show first day of Ricky

So we'll be out there for that. Fun to get
to know these guys. Some guys are you know, made
for the microphone. I can't wait till someone gets Julian
Neil on the mic live. That'll be fun. That's our
you know, everyone wants julian Neal. He's really good. We
(44:41):
had Jadarian Price was a really good interview last Friday.
You and I did the Bo Stevens thing. He's a
he's a really I'm gonna use a coselle. This is
a co Celle term. He's an intriguing prospect. The reason
he went in the fifth round is because the things
(45:01):
like arm length, athleticism, and hand size all worked against him.
Now he's a big dude, but the things that worked
against him pushed him down. Seattle though, keeping in mind this,
Seattle traded a fourth round pick next year and what's
supposed to be a deeper draft to go get this
guy in the fifth round, which just tells you a
(45:22):
lot about He's six six three point fifteen, so when
you look at him, when you lay eyes on him,
you go, that's a big man.
Speaker 6 (45:28):
He is.
Speaker 1 (45:29):
The problem is literally the short arms and bad hands
or shorter as smaller hands. I I always snuffed that
stuff off. I thought that was the biggest crock of
you know what in the world. Last Thursday, after day
one of the drafts, Hume Millen and I went to
Dinos for a second, had a quick pause second. It
(45:50):
just literally was the minute it was that. It might
have been an hour, but just we've done that. It's
kind of little tradition. We go there. Might have had
Hugh's favorite drink, which I'll keep to myself, but we
h But we had fun and we were talking and
actually my son showed up, and I do like watching
(46:11):
that interaction. Hugh called Keith for last I think it
was it was in the fall, Yeah, it was in
the fall. It was during they had a show. There
was some argument about with Softy and Fame about the
drop depth of DMan Williams and how far he was
dropping in the pocket for Washington and it was causing
problems for the offensive line. And if it's a six stets,
(46:33):
seven step drop, nine step drop. Okay, what does it
do for the tackle? All this they were on the
phone for over an hour. Keifer was he walked upstairs
he were on the and he came down and goes,
that was so much fun talking ball with you. And
I talked to you later. I was like, yeah, so
Keeper had a class, and I know I talk about
my kid a lot. I'm sorry, but that's just it's
(46:53):
just he had a class on Thursday night. He was
driving down four oh five. I say, swing by, say
how to you in person? So we did, and the
two of them lectured me on the on the arm length,
but with a demonstration in dinos on arm length, which
was just sensity. Came on so good. It was so good.
(47:16):
But I came away going, Okay, I see it.
Speaker 4 (47:20):
Now.
Speaker 1 (47:21):
Arm length means a lot. Now not as much for
a guard as a tackle, but it still means a lot.
Also for a corner. You always heard about the Seahawks
and they drafted the corners and Pete Carroll had to
have a certain right arm length. They're showing me these things. Okay,
you do this, you turn here, you do that. I
(47:42):
even did it at home with KEI for later that night.
Like so really like this he goes no watch and
that one inch when you're reaching out on a pass
block or if you're trying to redirect on somebody in
press or whatever, it means a lot. There is a reason.
And really, if I would have used it just a
little bit of common sense, just a little bit, I
(48:03):
probably would have figured out that, Okay, they're spending all
of this effort to measure everyone's arm length and hand size,
it must mean something. But I needed to have the demonstration,
and I'm glad I did. It was a really it
was really cool to see, Like it's amazing, like how
long like arms blah blah blah, all this stuff. Like
(48:26):
I kind of thought always, I mean, my kid's a
small college guy, but always thought he was kind of
more looks like a little bit it could have been
a guard. Sure, his arm length helped him. That's why
he's a tackle. Not the biggest dude in the world,
but his arm length helped him. And when you turn
the corner all those things. The thing with Bo Stevens
is so his arm length and that stuff. Short, big
bodied guy can be a maller. Doesn't get to that
(48:47):
second level fast enough. Now, I'll be curious to see
and we'll talk to you about this, especially as we
get to training camp. Like I never felt like Anthony
Bradford was a get to the second level quick enough guy.
Anthony Bradford had a really damn good Super Bowl, Like
didn't have a great NFC Championship game, but had he
had himself a Super Bowl and a good one at that.
(49:10):
So what is there with you know, with Stevens. Can
he get to that second level? Can he overcome the
physical shortcomings which are really just short, short arms by
in short inch whatever it might be, There's no doubt
when you're an All American guard at Iowa you can
play at the high college level. Didn't give up a
(49:32):
sack in his last three years. I didn't get into
it with him. Was healthy for the first time. He
missed games in his like he red shirted his first year,
missed one game as a red shirt freshman in twenty twelve,
but did start ten out of twelve games, so he
was a starter as a freshman. As a red shirt
freshman sophomore year, he missed eight games with an injury,
(49:56):
only played five, so that was tough then and He
was the comeback Player of the Year for Iowa in
twenty twenty four. He still missed a couple of games,
but he started eleven, played eleven away. We went same
thing his senior year thirteen to thirteen, and really his
senior year was the only time he was one hundred
percent healthy. Yeah, so healthy short arms. Probably the big
(50:17):
reason why that this guy didn't get drafted. Wasn't always healthy,
but when he was healthy, really really productive, like really
really productive.
Speaker 3 (50:25):
Now that you say that, I really want to see
a film breakdown of both Stevens from Keefer.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
I would love to see that. All right, well, we'll
work on that. Yeah, let's do it. Maybe in the
same room as well. He's a little oh god, maybe
you know what I'll ask you. Maybe Hugh could get
on the they can get on some sort of you know,
talk or zoom or something like that.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
And the other thing that you mentioned that is like,
because what would happen if let me just say this,
what would happen if both Stevens comes in and wins
a job from Anthony Bradford, Then like wins the job,
They're not going to give it to him, No, Chris
and Haynes couldn't win it from him, Mason Richmon couldn't
win it from him. Brice Cable nehwe couldn't win it
from him. What if this guy comes in and wins,
then how much better do you feel about your offensive line?
(51:09):
And that's again I think Bradford takes a lot of
crap in this town. And again he's arguably and he
brought brings us up by PFF and other standards. He's
the worst player out of twenty two starters on the
team in terms of greats. But that's like, it's comparative,
it's relative. You have a lot of really good players, right,
but he's also a bottom one of the bottom guards
in terms of the league as well. Right, what if
(51:31):
you had a guy come in and beat him out? Now,
how well do you how much do you feel better
about that offensive line? It's like, Okay, that was on
maybe one little bit of a weak spot. Now we
got a guy that came in and won the job.
Because again they're not going to give it him, right
fifth thro and PI, They're not just gonna hand it
to him. No, be awesome. Then you have a first
year guy at right guard, second year guy at left guard,
third year guy at center, all under manageable contracts, and
(51:52):
your two tackles both have what four years left on
their deal starting this year, right, you'd feel really really
good about where you are as an offensive line.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
The one kind of caveat to that is, I feel
like we had these same conversations with Christian Haynes, Olu Luwa, Timmy,
and that's we're drafted in that same area.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
And here's the key.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
That is the key.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
Andrews is a great point. Christian Hayes was a third
round pick. Yeah, he's been given every opportunity to win
a job. Never has I think he's in a roster
I think he's in a roster fight. Yeah, Like I
don't think it's given this guy makes the team. I
think that's a I think that's very much on the
table that Christian Haynes does not make the football team
next year. I think you can go younger, and I mean,
(52:32):
what's just keep on your Richmond's and Cable dues and
whatever else the Bo Stevens of the world. But you'd
feel a hell of a lot better, would you, not, YEA,
If all of a sudden you just like, Okay, what
was our week'sbout. Well, we just had a guy come
in as a fifth round pick. He won the job.
Guy's got the right attitude, been through a lot obviously
(52:52):
as well health wise, all those things. I'm rooting for him.
And that conversation. It is funny, like on the speaker phone,
I don't think you were there yet. You weren't there,
You were there. He was pretty short on the speakerphone.
Just gonna sound like an offensive line. We have him
on now too, like they told her, They told us
we're getting Monoday'm like, okay, that's cool. Well, it wasn't
too excited afterwards, very.
Speaker 9 (53:12):
Famely impressed by his ability to have a conversation.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Well, and I take more than anything, he was able
to articulate his issues. Yeah, which I really like. That's
very impressive. Okay, what do you got?
Speaker 9 (53:22):
I have money to give away?
Speaker 10 (53:24):
Way, Yeah, apparently they don't give it to us, but
they give it to nobody else they don't anyway. Grand

Speaker 6 (54:26):
Next, it's time to visit with one of our favorites,
Greg Cosell from NFL Films. Brought to you by Occidental Hall.
Make Occidental Hall, your first stop and your last stop.
It's your Mariners pre and postgame headquarters. Game days starts
at the Hall and after every home games, celebrate with
(54:48):
five dollars smash Burgers plus Happy Hour Monday through Friday
from four to six Occidental Hall. This is how you
do game day and this is how we indues the
NFL with Greg.
Speaker 1 (55:02):
All right, welcome back in here we go. It is
time to talk to Greg Cosell. Our final visit, regular
scheduled visit with Greg until the fall, wrapping up the
NFL Draft, and he is with us. Big thanks as
always to Greg for jumping on and joining us. Our
thanks as well to the Hall Group, Queen Am Beer Hall,
Occidental Hall, Moss Bay Hall, Queen Am Beer Hall Course.
(55:23):
Before all your events at CPA, and don't forget this
weekend baseball team back in town. Before and after every
game at Team Mobile, swing on by five dollars smash
Burger's post game at the Hall. All right, Greg, let's
get to it. Draft is over, lots of stuff going on.
You're fired up, Abella, consensus picks and all the grades.
Speaker 8 (55:40):
Right, you know, I don't know what that means. I
mean when people say that I get they obviously know
way more than I do. They must know what all
thirty two teams draft boards looks look like. I don't,
so I don't know what that means. You know, it's
a fascinating concept. People with less enri decide that they
(56:02):
have a better idea of what teams should do than
teams who have far more information. It's really a fascinating concept. Dan,
don't you think I do?
Speaker 6 (56:10):
I do.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
I think.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
The one thing we do know with Seattle, though, is
a andcuse. Schneider told us this before the draft, and
he told us after day one they wanted to trade down,
and he told us after day one, Yeah, we tried,
we moved. It was a wild end of the first round, though.
There was all those picks in front of Seattle got
moved at San Francisco, moved down twice to get all
the way out of the first round. So there was
(56:31):
a lot of movement taking place, a lot of things
going on there that kind of, you know, probably threw
a little monkey wrench into what Seattle wanted to do
and what John Schneider wanted to do. But in the
end they do pick thirty second. Overall, we talked about
him before. But let's let's go back and revisit Jidari
and Price.
Speaker 8 (56:47):
Yeah, well, the bottom line is they do not have
a number one running back, and even with a healthy
Charvin a, he's not that guy. So Price can be
that guy, especially in their system. You know, you're dealing
with a guy that has a very strong trades profile, size, decisiveness, burst, toughness,
he's competitive. Obviously he was a compliment. He only had
(57:11):
two hundred and thirty three total carries in his last
two years there, so there's not a lot of tread
on the tires.
Speaker 6 (57:18):
You know.
Speaker 8 (57:19):
Obviously I did not know who was going to draft him,
but I thought that when I watched him. One point
I made was that he showed the desirable combination of
trades that would lead NFL teams to believe he could
be a feature back. And obviously he was drafted more
than likely to be that guy. You don't draft the
back in the first round, you know, not to be
(57:39):
somewhat of a feature back. He's decisive, he's got short
area burst, he's got some explosiveness to him.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
And I liked him a lot.
Speaker 8 (57:49):
I mean, you know, I came away believing he could
be a feature back and depending on the system, and
I think that's a good system for him. And don't forget,
you know, keep in mind who their new offensive coordinator is,
coordinator as who came from San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (58:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
Absolutely, let's let's just kind of talk about some of
the things, like he's addressed it. We've talked about it.
We talked to Schneider and Mike McDonald about it. You know,
the one thing he doesn't do is catch the ball
on the backfield. But it's not because he didn't. You know,
he can't. He didn't have a lot of opportunities. How
hard is it for you, How hard is it for
you to evaluate a guy like this who's playing behind
(58:23):
the number three pick in the draft.
Speaker 8 (58:26):
Well, all you can say is you didn't see it
on tape. I would never say he can't do it.
That's not what he was asked to do with Notre Dame.
It wasn't necessary because Jeremiah Love is a terrific receiver
and Jeremiah Love was one of those backs that you
could detach from the formation and run wide receiver routes.
So Price was not asked to fill that role. Because
I'm just sitting in my office at Films and not
(58:47):
going to a pro day or not working him out.
It's very possible he's got good hands. I don't know
the answer to that, so I wouldn't say he can't
do it. I would just say I didn't see it
on tape. It's very possible he does have at hands.
But as far as the running part, I liked him
a lot. I mean, you know, is he is he
(59:08):
a shifty, elusive type runner. No, he's probably more straight
line linear, but he's physical, he's tough. He's a sustaining
type back and that's really what you know that offense demands,
and certainly with Brian Flirty there now is the OC
coming from San Francisco. Look, he's got really good competitive
(59:29):
toughness price and that's what you love about him. I mean,
this guy gets hard yards.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
The uh, the like, the ability to read you can
see that on tape though, right to read the holes.
Speaker 8 (59:40):
Yeah, I mean he's you know, when you're a back,
normally in run games, what what what you coach is
the first two steps, because you have to start a path.
You have to start the path based on what the
run call is and how it's going to be blocked.
But after you take your first two steps, what happens
is gaps change. The term I use for that is
(01:00:01):
gaff fluidity. There's defensive flow. The blocking then reacts to that.
So you then have to have the ability after those
first two step steps to read how the blocks match
the the gaff fluidity and the defensive flow.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
And you know he was good at that, all right,
Greg Cosell joining was brought to bet the holl of you.
Let's get the Bud Clark TCU safety that's kind of
all over the field. You know, they lost obviously Kobe Bryant.
You know people would just say, hey, they drafted a safety.
He's a replacement for Kobe Bryant. Feels like he's a
different player than Kobe Bryant. What do you see with
Bud Clark.
Speaker 8 (01:00:35):
Yeah, Clark's a fascinating player. He played both in the
slot and at safety for TCU, But to me, he's
a safety. He's six, he's kind of long, sinewy, he's
a little thin. He ran really well, He tested really
well at the combine. He's got great length, great range,
so you know he can match up in the slot.
(01:00:56):
But that's really not I think what they what they
drafted him to do. Who you know, but he's he's
one of those really rangy guys. He's very fluid in
his movement. He's got really long strides. He eats upground easily.
I think he easily transitions as a back end safety.
And I think he could even play snaps a post
safety because he's so long and rangy in his movement.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
So even though we.
Speaker 8 (01:01:21):
Played a ton of slot at TCU, again without you know,
being in John Schneider's head or Mike McDonald said, I
would think they drafted him to be a safety in
their scheme.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
You and I talked a lot last year about Tyle
Cotta and his development in stepping in at times for
Seattle to a safety position. Is Bud Clark similar to
Tylecotta at all?
Speaker 8 (01:01:45):
He's a different kind of player. Kotta, we all agree,
played very well, but Clark's just a looser, more fluid
athlete with more range. So, you know, again Ocatta is
still there and losing Brian, you would have sumo Cotta
gets the first opportunity. You know, he played what seven
eight games where he started something like that and did well.
(01:02:07):
But Clark's a different player and you know, I hate
the term he's around the ball because you know, sometimes
I think to myself, well, where else is he supposed
to be? Is he supposed to be in the parking lot?
I mean, you know, but the fact is is he
did make a lot of interceptions in college.
Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:02:24):
Some interceptions occurred because they're just bad throws.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:02:27):
Others occurred because he's just playing his responsibility and the
balls thrown to him. You know, but he did make
a lot of interceptions. He can't catch the football, but
he's just kind of a loose, fluid, rangy athlete. He's
kind of a fun guy to watch, just because the
way he moves.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
We were talking on draft day when he got selected
on that Friday day to the draft with your friend
Hugh Millen. You've heard a few Millon before and and
you know the respect that Hugh and so many others
have for Mike McDonald and his defensive acumen and just
what what Mike McDonald brings. And it's like Bud Clark
feels like a Mike McDonald guy, Like he okay, like
can we do with him?
Speaker 5 (01:03:01):
Right?
Speaker 11 (01:03:01):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
What can we do with it?
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Really interesting?
Speaker 8 (01:03:04):
If I could expound on that first absolutely happening here
Mike McDonald's speak on social media about the NFL and
sort of the changing nature of offense, and I think
Budd Clark fits this, and I'll tell you why. What
McDonald spoke about was the fact that what offensers are
doing more and more of is they're able to play
with two tight ends and three tight ends and still
(01:03:26):
formationally and route concept wise, play as if they have
eleven personnel on the field, meaning three wide receivers. So
as a defense, if you do not have to change
personnel very often, which they do not have to do
because of him and Warri, and theoretically Bud Clark fits
that because he could be a safety and a slot
if you choose to do that. So now and he
(01:03:47):
whether he's ready to play week one, we can't answer
that question, and so you know, I'm not going to
go there because we don't know. But once he is ready,
now you have two players theoretically, not theoretically, one practically
and m and Warri and too theoretically and Clark that
you don't have to take off the field because they
can be em and Worri can be a linebacker, Clark
(01:04:07):
can be a safety or a slot. You know, now
you don't have to worry about how do we match
up to a team's personnel. We don't have to start
trying to play that matchup game with different personnel and
potentially get caught.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
Greg Coselle joining us, All right, Julian Neal another defensive player, cornerback,
taken with a ninety ninth pick, thirty fifth pick in
the third round, and Julian Neil's again. They moved down
to get him, but they ended up getting a guy.
Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
That boy.
Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
He jumped on the conference call with us on Friday,
and man, this dude was all about Julian Neal. I
love the con like you want a cornerback that is confident, Greg,
this guy is filled with confidence. Probably the most entertaining
of those calls we've had in seventeen years of doing
that out there at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. What
do you see on tape from Julian Neal.
Speaker 8 (01:04:53):
Well, when I saw that they drafted him, I said
to myself, that didn't surprise me at all because he's
almost six' to. Two he's a, big, long physical CORNER
i kept watching him, thinking you, know the one thing
he lacks is that great recovery speed you know. About you,
know if a guy gets on top of, him he
doesn't have that speed that you'd ultimately. Like so can
(01:05:16):
he be beaten over the top of?
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
Times?
Speaker 8 (01:05:18):
Yes SO i kept going back and forth watching his
tape and, thinking is this guy a press man? Corner
which he's very good at by the. Way he's very,
physical that's his, game you, know and he, obviously based
on what you just, Said i'm sure he feels, Like,
MAN i can line up against anybody And i'm just
going to beat the crap out of. Him but THEN
i thought to, myself is he better off as his
(01:05:39):
zone corner because just that recovery speed is a little.
Troublesome but it did not surprise me at, all given the,
size the, length the, physicality the. TOUGHNESS i, mean he played.
Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
The run on the.
Speaker 8 (01:05:53):
Perimeter he was a willing and, strong assertive. Tackler you
know that means something To mike. McDonald he struck. Me
AND i saw that. Pick that was the end of
the day day two right?
Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Too yeah, around, yes, Correct. Yeah WHEN i.
Speaker 8 (01:06:06):
Saw that, PICK i WAS i was, like, oh that's
a seahawk pick and, again whether he's ready to, play you,
know week. One who you can never answer those. Questions
and you, know because a guy hasn't even been through
rookie mini camp, yet you, know so you don't. Know
but he just seemed to me to be a Perfect
Seattle seahawk type.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
Corner Greg cosel joining us one More seahawks PICK i
want to get to and then we'll touch a little
bit on The rams and the forty nine ers because
what they do certainly matters to us out. Here let's
talk about now he's listed as a wide, receiver kind
of feels like a special teams. Guy Emmanuel, Henderson junior
out Of. Kansas, yeah you, know it's.
Speaker 8 (01:06:46):
Funny there's so many, guys as you, know that get,
draft and wide receivers are like this in, particular a
lot of wide receivers make it and a lot of
wide receivers get. Drafted he is, long he's six.' one
he can unwell, to me he's a definite. Vertical, dimension
now obviously they Re signed shaheed and he's, that Guy
(01:07:07):
but henderson is also a. Vertical dimension he's got the
straight line speed to, run by get on top. Of
corners i'd say at, this point and the reason he's
drafted where he was is because he's probably a little
bit of a one trick pony. Right now he, needs
coaching he needs repetition to develop into a more complete
receiver who can win in. Multiple ways but there's no
(01:07:28):
question that he's got speed and. He's long so, you
know when receivers start to get, drafted later ian as you.
WELL know, i mean you've been doing this a. Long time,
You know i'm not telling you anything you. Don't know
it's because there's something about their game that. Needs work
and no one comes INTO the nfl as a truly,
finished player but as you get later in, the draft particularly,
(01:07:49):
with receivers it's because there's something. About them it could be,
one thing, two things, three things but there's something about
them that clearly. Needs work, and well he can and
it's clearly a. Vertical dimension he needs a lot of
work to become a. Complete receiver but there's, something there.
Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
All Right greg coseel, Joining us let's get to just
quickly look at the other two teams, that matter all
due Respect. To arizona that'll Be the Rams In. San
francisco let's start With. The Rams, ty simpsons the name
everyone was, talking about, you know where he, was drafted
and the fact they didn't add to a team That's
A super bowl contender. Right away they also took a
tight End At, Ohio state i'll tackle Out of missouri and.
(01:08:26):
So forth so what'd you make of Of the? Rams,
draft yeah you Know The ty.
Speaker 8 (01:08:32):
Simpson, Pick look i've learned over the years at SPEAKING
to gms. And coaches you never want to be in
a position where you have to draft a quarterback because of. Desperate,
need Now the rams are still a very good, football,
team obviously could they have drafted someone at thirteen who
you know could step in and be. A, Starter perhaps you. Never,
(01:08:53):
know look there's no guarantee with first, round picks no
matter what you. KNOW that, i mean how many first
round picks percentagewis become, you know. All pros how many
first round picks even become truly Contributing starters and the percentages,
Are low so you don't know the answer to. That
question but you also don't Know When matthew stafford's calling.
It quits you don't Know About matthew. STAFFORD'S health, i
(01:09:14):
mean YOU and i can remember, last year even Through,
late august there was a question as to whether he'd
be ready to play. Week, one obviously he went on
to have the best season of, his career and, it's probably,
you Know a Hall of fame. Type player but you
just don't know the answer, to that and you don't
want to. Get stuck and you know it's worked out for.
Other teams we saw what's Happened In, green bay First
(01:09:35):
With aaron rodgers who sat for, three years and Then
For jordan love who. Obviously sat so you just, you
know if you're in desperate mode at the, quarterback position
it's a very bad place.
Speaker 11 (01:09:46):
To Be.
Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
The samsrusco forty nine ers traded down twice in the.
First round ye they finally take a Pick As. Deshaun
stribling we. Know him he started his Career at Wazoo
and i'm Going To oklahoma State the mississippi a. Big
receiver they took a couple of they took an edge rusher,
In height they took the second running back off the
board in Black. From indiana would you make it with
(01:10:08):
the With The san francisco forty, nine Ers.
Speaker 8 (01:10:10):
Diad what i've been, telling people, you know we're talking
to people these last couple. OF days i can only
tell YOU how i evaluated. The players, YOU know i don't.
Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Get caught UP in.
Speaker 8 (01:10:18):
I see, you know someone said All the niners made
a bad pickause they could Have, gotten stribbling, you know fifty. Picks,
later well how do you? KNOW that, i mean, you
know that's an easy thing. To say anybody can say something.
Like that, you know as SOON as i, HEAR that
i just dismissed that as. Being MORONIC but i Really like,
stribling's TAPE and i Really Like keylon black's tape the Runner,
from INDIANA and i think he absolutely fits the forty
(01:10:41):
nine ers system really. REALLY well i think he'll end
up being their backup, to McCaffrey and at some point
McCaffrey they're going to sit him for, two possessions, you know,
a game just because of the age and the wear.
And Tear but stribling is six to two plus almost
two hundred ten pounds a burner and absolute burner runs,
(01:11:01):
by people by, the way a really physical dynamic, blocker
two which we know how important that is to this
forty nine ers. Run game and it's funny the way
he was deployed at ALL miss i came away, Feeling,
like wow there's a, lot THERE but i didn't see
him work the middle of the field in the context of.
Their offense SO what i DID is i actually went
(01:11:21):
back and then and watched all his targets from twenty
twenty four when he Was At, oklahoma state and he
worked the middle of the field really. Really well so
that just enhanced my evaluation. Of HIM and i really
really liked his tape. A lot, SO again i don't
get caught up and where guys. Get drafted. You Know
bill watsh used to talk about this all the time
(01:11:42):
that once the draft, is over it's irrelevant where guys.
Get drafted either the guy's going to become a good
football player and help your team or not help. Your
team the idea that you could have gotten a guy
at a, different spot that's just. Banter that, you know
people who like to think they're smart say you have
no idea. About that you're looking to draft good football
players that help, your team, You KNOW and i think
(01:12:05):
that's got to be the approach. To take the consensus doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
Mean, anything WELL and i think with, with well we
also FORGET what. I forgot actually for a couple of
Days With. San francisco They draft stribbling with their first
pick to add the wide, receiver corp which has been
an issue WITH the. Auk situation EVERYTHING else. I forgot
they tend to. Forget that They Added mike, evans too
so they've upgraded their wide. Receiver position.
Speaker 8 (01:12:26):
They. Sure haven't and obviously they're Hoping, rookie PEARSALL who
i liked a lot coming out and has shown flashes
when he's been able. To play they're hoping he can.
Stay healthy they Also Signed, christian kirk so they've got
A pretty. I think they Still Have, DeMarcus robinson who wherever,
he goes he. Catches passes, you know he's never going
to catch, seventy balls but he, catches passes, you know
as you, well know because he's been IN The nfc
(01:12:47):
west for, you know, A while so, you know they
have a pretty deep wide. Receiver room NOW what i.
Speaker 1 (01:12:54):
Don't know if you there's a zillion guys. Out there
so if you didn't watch, their tape. That's fine they
did draft two Guys from washington, Out Here carver Willis And,
price hock. The cornerback did you watch tap on either
one of.
Speaker 8 (01:13:04):
Those, guys WELL actually i watched, Both Corners tocario Davis And.
Price Sock And TOCARIO davis i think went in the
third Round, to CINCINNATI and i liked him a little
More Than. PRICE sock i think he's a. Little smoother
but they're, both long, long athletes and you Know From,
richard sherman who was not a, you know four to
three seven guy That and i'm not comparing them in
(01:13:26):
terms of what they're going, to be but length is
a big deal at the, corner position and it can
make up for the fact that if you don't have great,
recovery speed, you know with those with a long body and.
LONG arms I like davis a, little More But, price sock,
to me is a good prospect. AS well i did
Not Watch, carver WILLIS so i can't speak, to him
but those. Two, Corners look Cincinnati drafted davis in the.
(01:13:50):
Third round third round is not a, throwaway pick so
he's going to get an opportunity to play and, we'll
see you know what. Happens There, PRICE sock i think
was a. Fifth rounder now you start to get territory
when he's going to have a, you know he's gonna
have to work through the OTA's and mini camp and
really show to get. An, opportunity yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
No Doubt well greg got wraps it up.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
For us we.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Appreciate it we'll check back in in. The fall but
we love having you on every week during, the season
and frankly all a same thing during the lead up
TO The nfl draft and our post draft. As well
it's just great to have. You on and thank you. So,
much man you got a lot of requests across, the
country but we appreciate you coming on.
Speaker 8 (01:14:28):
With, us oh, YOU know i love talking. TO you,
i mean let's hope, we're back. You know and, you, know,
look hey the other good Thing is seattle is a.
Good team.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
YOU know i.
Speaker 8 (01:14:37):
Like talking it's more fun to talk about the good
teams than to talk about the. Bad teams will, lave me,
you know and they'll be a good team again. This year,
you know you never know records and. All that, you
know no one can. Answer that but you know they're
not going to go forward to THIRTEEN and i can tell.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
You, that, hey ACTUALLY can i ask you, one quick one?
REAL fast I got i got about a. Minute here
in the event they, sign him there's a lot of
Talk About dante fowler. Coming here what can you tell us?
Speaker 8 (01:15:01):
About Him dante fowler is a player to ME that
i remember doing coming Out, of FLORIDA and i thought
he'd be a better player than. He's, been look he's
been in a lot. Of places he still has some pass.
Rush ability he's not a stiff by. Any MEANS but
i think he was the third pick in the draft
when he came out something, like that, YOU know i
(01:15:21):
think so he was definitely top five if memory serves.
Me CORRECTLY and i really liked his TAPE and i
thought he could become a dominant edge player in. The
league and well he's been A really look the guy's
going to play twelve years in. The league had been
far from me to say, that's not, you know a
great thing to. DO that, i mean WHO Am i
i'm just a guy who sits and watch. His tape
BUT but i thought he'd really be a more dominant edge.
(01:15:42):
Pass RUSHER but i just remember watching Him at FLORIDA
and i thought he really had had. Excellent traits, but
hey guy's going to play a long time in.
Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
The, league greg you're. The best we will talk in.
The fall thank you.
Speaker 8 (01:15:54):
So much, all, Right, thanks ian really.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):

they're expecting it to generate an estimate it's seven million
dollars in Economic impact for kirkland And, the east, side, including.
Jobs visitors businesses with that will come tournaments. On the
weekend we see that, more and more hopefully our hopefully
the borders become a little bit more fund to cross
and we see more and more teams Coming down from
(01:20:28):

Speaker 9 (01:21:56):
Shout out to the corrension of the sport.
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
IN our community i think it's important start, To, THE
youth yeah I think it's i. Think it's important you
want to have people growing up playing the game and
then they're your fans in, ten fifteen years they're the, ones,
Buying tickets right, and you know WE'VE had a i
think we've always had a very underrated hockey community here
in terms of. The youth hockey there's been some pretty
good players that have. Come through here, and you know Everybody,
looks at tjoshi but there's been some female, Ones As
(01:22:19):
well caitlin parker and others that have come, through this
Area some from. Bellingham as, well so yeah it's it's
but we need more ice and we need more opportunities
for the sport to grow and this this definitely does that.
Along the way so Congratulations to the kraken And to
The city of kirkland for doing. That as, well all

ems just completed a five to one road trip with
a win five To three in Minnesota. Against the twins
more on that. In a second they won yesterday, seven
to one, Five and one now sixteen and sixteen back
to five hundred. ON The Season nhl oilers bruins stave
off elimination with, WINS Last night nba Spurs eliminated the
(01:23:53):
trailblazers moved to the second round seventy six or stal
alive with the Win. Versus The celtics boston scilly's a
series three games to, two as Well and the cracking
announced that they are building a second krack. And ice
plex this one Will, be in kirkland opening up in
the fall of. Twenty twenty seven let's talk a little
matter's Baseball Ahead. Of corby, smith.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
All right move into the.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Two o'clock hour marriner has just Finished off the twins,
with a nice tidy little three, Run ninth inning trailing
three to two going, into the ninth put up a
three spot The Big hit cole, young two RUN go
ahead rbi single HIT the tying rbi earlier in the.
Game as well six straight GAMES with An Rbi. For
(01:24:43):
cole young that's the second longest IN the last i.
Think Six, Years, Cole Clutch clutch cole he is. A, final,
name yeah yeah he he. Just. Makes plays uh the
only DOWNSIDE is and I don't think andrews have you
seen anything? On It Yet, not matt brash that's what. You're,
Talking About, yeah matt brash left after just Two. Pitches
for seattle he went in through two pitches maybe, it was,
(01:25:07):
yeah two pitches one strike because a one one. Count
he left and that just doesn't ever feel like it's
a good thing. When that happens but we won't until we,
know anything more we won't. Dwell, on that instead we'll
look bottom of the order again. Getting It done cole
young has a day, two for four three RBIs scored to.
(01:25:27):
Run as Well dom can zone had a couple of hits,
in the game. SCORED To, Run, jp crawford yes no,
range at shortstop but he does get the, solo home
run does get the, solo home run goes two for,
three as well. Gets on base he gets on base
actually four times, in the game with a couple walks.
Mixed in, there so yeah he would BE a good
(01:25:48):
dh if you could just find somebody to. Play short
stuff but we're not gonna we won't worry about. Those
things today mariners were last five hundred doing here at
four and four back on the Third, of a april Right,
for the yankees right after it was Heading Into. The, angel,
series yeah yeah they were. Three and four they went to.
(01:26:08):
Four and four we Went, over the angels and then
it kind of if You remember, that angel series it
didn't go, too wellp right and they have been below,
five hundred since but all of a sudden they finish
off The month of april and they're at five hundred at,
sixteen and sixteen they go five and one on the road.
Trip As well cole young Eight RBIs since april twenty
(01:26:30):
fourth leading baseball. In that REGARD like just i don't
know what more you can. Say about him we will
talk to more about with Them With the eno sarahs
maybe kind Of Discussed with joe sheen a. Little bit
yesterday the guy just comes through AND he is i
know it's a. Smaller sample size we saw him last
year and now we're seeing. Him this year the guy's.
Your second basement it's like what we were talking about
(01:26:52):
right Guards with the seahawks. Little while Ago if post
stevens can find that way to, get in there that
just kind of solves. One little problem you don't have to,
worry about base you don't have to worry. About Second
base cole young's your guy and gets it done SO
so outing i think safe To say by kirby right
five AND two thirds i think he looked. Better than. This,
(01:27:13):
final stats yeah five, and two, thirds eight hits a,
couple of, runs, both earned walked a couple.
Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
STRUCK out five i saw something where zero of the
eight hits That Were against george KIRBY had an exi
velocity of greater than ninety five.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
Miles an hour so he's just getting Dnked and dunk
danton dunked. A. Little bit yeah, munnos comes in earns
his sixth save of the year with a perfect two,
strikeout ninth Inning and the m's get. The win again
they improved to sixteen and sixteen. On The season kansas
city Is, here on friday starting a Series. With the mariners,
so good trip. Really, good trip yeah only blemish was
(01:27:47):
a Weird game on monday in which the, rain was
falling the. Wind was blowing team doesn't play well in rain,
delays or delays just. Anything, Like THAT yeah and i
know both teams played in, the same stuff but our,
team he doesn't.
Speaker 9 (01:28:01):
Which is, weird because well we.
Speaker 1 (01:28:02):
Have a roof just we have a roof, we're, used
to like we're. Not used to we're not used to
rain drops falling on our bats and gloves. And all
that they but they've been crummy forever. In, that regard
yeah it's.
Speaker 3 (01:28:13):
Just it's weird there was a whole thing, LAST year,
too i remember because like every time there's, a rain, delayer,
was like oh here.
Speaker 1 (01:28:17):
We, go again, yeah but, anyways oh. God that's right
that was that was the. Thing last year every time the's,
a rain delay they end up just coming out and getting.
Speaker 4 (01:28:24):
Boat.
Speaker 1 (01:28:25):
Raced afterwards, yeah that's hey. That's the one, that's the one.
That's the One blemish was monday five and one road
Trip Is sweeping saint louis and taking two Or. Three
from minnesota, you, come home now, start at Home Stand,
against kansas city and again the big. Thing is here
now you get back, to FIVE hundred and i know
it's not, a huge deal but you, look around baseball
especially in the muddling mess That Is, the, american league
(01:28:46):
deal five hundred is A really good like there are
one two two teams, above Five, hundred three athletics three
teams Above Five, hundred American, league The, yankees the rays
and The. And the a's That's and the a's are. Fifteen,
and fourteen yeah that's the only those are the only
teams above five hundred in In In. The, american league yeah. Absolutely.
(01:29:09):
Take that Yeah, So the royals royals have one fore.
In a row they're starting to maybe maybe figure things out. A.
Little bit time it's time for them to come back.
Down to earth they're still. Twelve, AND seventeen yeah i mean.
Think about that they've won foreign row and they, TOLD
him stha i know the minus sixteen run green ten.
On the road let's, go come, on all right let's
Let's Ring. Up bull Corbyn we'll get corbyn and we'll
Talk a little seahawks to put a rap On things
(01:29:31):
with corbyn for The Year From, emerald city spectrum we've
enjoyed having him. On all year he was a big
part of our Draft coverage On saturday on day Three
with with rob rang a lot of. Great calls too
yeah yeah he actually yeah, reminded, me that yeah we've
got to. Get, as dummy yeah we got to get
him to he can pump up his own tires here
in just a, couple of seconds because he he did
(01:29:51):
quite well in terms of predicting a couple of, pixelong
the way is he ready to? Rock and roll we're
getting him, In, A second, okay uh yeah he he
And he picked i'm not mistaken like. Later, picks too.
Speaker 10 (01:30:02):
Yes he predicted the Trade up for, bow or yeah
the trade Up. For both stevens. He, PREDICTED that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Man i don't know how you predict.
Speaker 9 (01:30:10):
Stuff like that he Was Peacocking.
Speaker 1 (01:30:12):
AROUND rob, RANG i mean i guess when your entire
life is, CENTERED around that i guess. Maybe that's, IT
but yeah i was very impressive. What he, did all
right let's. Hit the open. Here we go.

(01:30:46):
with corbyn smith Here's He and.
Speaker 1 (01:30:49):
Corben smith Joins us. Speaking plumbing hotline, first and foremost
thanks for jumping on and walking us through some of
the stuff That happened on Day. Three on saturday. Day not,
Everyone you know day three is, not for everyone but it,
is for, you my friend and you also picked a
few uh got a few right as well as your
your mocks and stuff. Along the, Way, so congrats, well.
Speaker 12 (01:31:11):
Thank You sir and i'm not somebody that likes to
pat myself, on the back but this was maybe THE
best draft i ever had in Terms Of predicting john
schneider what he.
Speaker 1 (01:31:20):
Was gonna do so well you did pop back and
start High five and rob rang so, you were like, let's,
be honest now how well us when the two of, Us,
GET involved yes. I got it i get to rub
it in his face. A, little, BIT yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:31:37):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
I got.
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
You and Listen, it was uh it's Always a fun
it's always a fun few days when we when we
get to the draft and. Go into it let me.
Let Me start actually i'm gonna start elsewhere. For a
second we'll come Back to the. Seahawks and heartbeat we
just had great, close cel on We had seat Palozolo
on a we're going to put a wrap on all.
These things today what was your take first on The forty.
NINE ers draft.
Speaker 12 (01:32:00):
I thought it was one of the three worst in.
THE entire league i, DON'T you know i don't really
understand what they are. TRYING to Do i think stribbling
is a solid player and he might end up being
the best, One THEY picked BUT i just i just
don't understand why that would be the selection at thirty
THREE overall when i see what was still on, the
(01:32:22):
Board There and kaylon black was certainly not my third
running back in. THIS draft class i don't think he's.
A bad player it just felt like they were drafting
a lot of guys several rounds ahead of where. They
WOULD go so i even think That what the rams
did made more sense than what the forty, nine ers
did and that, that's you know that's up for debate
with a lot of. People RIGHT now But i just
(01:32:44):
i'm Not Sure what john lynch and those, guys are
doing because this is like the fourth Straight year where
i've just kind of been, scratching my head like what
are they doing?
Speaker 1 (01:32:52):
In the draft the forty, nine ERS did and I
kind of. I'VE sent it i tend. To forget it
They Did, add mike evans which and help fill that receiver.
Need as well they find A backup. To christian McCaffrey
Did they have have the forty nine ers improved enough
in the Offseason to Catch Seattle, AND la no i
(01:33:16):
don't think that.
Speaker 12 (01:33:16):
They've done Enough Now getting nick bosa Back healthy and,
fred warnerback healthy that's gonna help bridge that gap right
for the, Forty nine ers but they're still dealing with
the same. Issue Here though Ian like the Seahawks, and
the rams like they can absorb. A few injuries the
forty nine ers if they if a couple of their,
studs GO down like i don't know how they pulled it,
(01:33:36):
off last year but like you put them up against
top tier teams and they're not going to be able
to hang with them if they miss a few.
Speaker 1 (01:33:44):
Of those guys is because they.
Speaker 12 (01:33:45):
Haven't drafted, well you know it's A Testament that kyle
shanahan has been able to squeeze the number of wins
he's been able to squeeze out of that team with
the injuries that they've.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
Had and kept them afloat and the culture.
Speaker 12 (01:33:56):
They have there but you eventually reached a point where
not having that depth and not having the young guys that.
Speaker 1 (01:34:01):
You've developed the, last few years it catches. Up with
you and we saw that happen in the. Playoffs, for
them well the. Other thing too they do, get for
cornerback they do get They do, get bosa back But
They have george kittle coming off an, injury as well
and you know He's got. THAT achilles Tear I know
john lynch said recently they're not sure, when he's back
but it doesn't sound like he's going to be back.
For training camp and, whenever that happens, A Pup situation
(01:34:24):
zach charbonne will probably be. The same thing it usually.
Takes a while we may not see him at the start,
of the year so they do take a. Step back
there la rams thoughts on. What they did of course
everyone's Talking about ty simpson a, smaller draft class but
would you think about.
Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
WHAT they did.
Speaker 1 (01:34:37):
I didn't think that they had a very.
Speaker 12 (01:34:39):
Impressive draft either i'm still trying to figure out why
they're stockpiling tight ends the way.
Speaker 1 (01:34:44):
THAT they are i understand that it's.
Speaker 12 (01:34:46):
A valuable position but if you were going to pick,
a tight end why didn't You Just pick kenyan tadik in?
The FIRST round like i just it keeps going back
to the decision to, Pick a quarterback and AS you
and i talked about on The, air ON saturday. LIKE
i understand i Understand what the rams are, Trying to
DO but if i was, a veteran player with how
close they are to Being a, SUPER bowl contender i
(01:35:07):
would have Been a furious but they didn't pick somebody
that was going to make, an IMPACT now and i
don't really think they drafted. Anybody after That Even maybe
max claire ends up being a really solid tight, end
for them it's just where you're gonna fit him in
with the tight ends. They've CURRENTLY got so i thought
that they had a very underwhelming.
Speaker 1 (01:35:24):
DRAFT as well, I, THOUGHT that yeah i think when
you The facts like simpson doesn't help you now if
he's truly the guy, that you believe, and only honestly
none of us know what. McVeigh really thinks he's never.
Gonna tell, us you know maybe he has told us
and we just, don't BELIEVE him, but, i mean honestly
we don't know what He Thinks. OF ty simpson i
(01:35:45):
think what you said is, a, key there though is That,
with The rams ty simpson doesn't. Help you today and
IF you're a ram veteran and you know that you
were a player two Away, from beating seattle and If
you beat seattle there's no doubt You Win. The super
bowl that was PROVEN and, that i mean you're that,
you're that close and you add of you have the
thirteenth overall pick and you don't get anything that can help.
(01:36:05):
You right away just, Makes no sense like sidiq would.
Have made sense if you're going to take a tight
end in The Second Round ruben bain Junior paired With,
verse and fisk that would have been terrifying for the REST.
OF the nfcu i think that's WHAT they IF i If,
i was sneed THAT is what i would have been sprinting.
Speaker 6 (01:36:21):
To The.
Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
PHONE BAIN jr i. I just don't.
Speaker 12 (01:36:26):
I don't UNDERSTAND i, mean i UNDERSTAND and. Yet, i
don't yeah if they were if they were a, team
that like oh we we barely. Made the, Playoffs You
know matt stafford, isn't you know? His plays, declining you
know if there were other FACTORS they, like i understand
it just is.
Speaker 1 (01:36:42):
Baffling to me Let's Talk about, seattle's day three because
we talked A lot On thursday and friday about, what they,
did You Know with Judarium Price, And Bud. Clark julian
neil let's let's talk. About day three, first of all
We had both. Stevens on earlier what. A great interview
he was just really opened up about HIS struggles with
adhd and, mental health issues and then talked about. Why
(01:37:04):
he repped i'm sure you saw the story and the
senior bully gets. Beat playing center it never played, center
in college but he took, a center, rep got bulldozed
and went right back and said let's. Do it again
and he did the same thing to. THE same guy i.
Love that attitude but let's Start. With both stevens some
Thoughts On the All. American, FOR iowa yeah i had
a third round.
Speaker 12 (01:37:24):
GREAT on him, i YOU know and i remember when
the deal happened in the DRAFT room and i kind
of came back to your GUY'S table because i, was
just like, oh my gosh they're, pulling it off because
we Had Just seen john schneider like thirty minutes earlier
walking through, the yeah, yeah draft room like he he
was like he. Was so bored you just THINK what
(01:37:45):
am i supposed to? Be doing here and then this
player falls into. The fifth, Round, It's like okay i've
got all these bags of goodies for. TWENTY twenty seven
i can give up one of those fourth round picks
to go up and. Get this kid but it's rare
that you draft a guy That Was an all american
in the.
Speaker 1 (01:37:59):
Fifth or and he's just he's a really good all.
Speaker 12 (01:38:04):
Around football player he might not have, the highest ceiling
but he comes in with a pretty high floor Again Being,
An ALL american and i just think, in this scheme
really really.
Speaker 1 (01:38:13):
Good technician in the.
Speaker 12 (01:38:15):
Zone blocking, game at minimum he's gonna ramp, up the
competition turn at The Heat on anthony bradford, and at,
best you know this could be your starter in, twenty
twenty seven or maybe he makes things interesting this year
because of where he's Coming from in iowa is an,
offensive line Factory and the seahawks have been buying and
purchasing a lot of linemen from that factory here the.
Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
Last few, years, SO well, Yeah, i MEAN stevens, there's
i mean the reason he slipped right was just lack
of athleticism and the shorter arms and. Things like that
so you look at some, of those, numbers those measurables, and,
it's like okay you go from being you know what
many People As An all american iowa guard that kind
of screams No lower, than day two and then he
slips into day three. In the round in. The fifth
(01:38:59):
round seattle does. Make that move they traded a fourth
round pick next year for a fifth round. PICK this
year i think that tells you all you need to
know what they. Think, about him.
Speaker 12 (01:39:08):
Yeah, that right there and the player himself mentioned how
much of a sign of, respect that was how grateful he.
Speaker 1 (01:39:14):
Was for that but that tells you all you need
to know in terms of going up giving up one.
Speaker 12 (01:39:19):
Of those forts in what is supposed to be a
much better draft class than the one that, We just
saw seattle still has, eleven, picks projected though you go
make a move for a guy that you know next
year you're gonna have a hard time getting a. GUY like,
that i mean maybe you can in the in day
three find a, player like that but. IT'S it's, TOUGH
i mean i just thought there were some really good
players that fell in this draft that, OTHER than measurables
(01:39:42):
i just, really didn't understand and he was.
Speaker 1 (01:39:44):
One Of Them, emmanuel henderson junior a Receiver, out of
kansas goes in, the sixth round number one. Ninety nine overall,
by and large it feels like a special teams player COMING,
into the nfl but also. A wide receiver what do
you see? From, THIS guy yeah i didn't know.
Speaker 12 (01:40:00):
As much about him compared to a Lot of the
day THREE receivers that, I looked, at and honestly just,
PART of it i just Didn't expect the seahawks to.
Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
Pick A Receiver but drek Young.
Speaker 11 (01:40:10):
Is.
Speaker 12 (01:40:11):
In vegas now this guy is as good of a
gunner as you're gonna find in the. COLLEGE football, ranks i,
mean he's fast he, gets down field he makes a,
lot of tackles so he is a Natural Replacement. For
DAREK young but i would, also say this he was
in the top fifteen in the Nation according to pro.
Football focused charting he was in the top fifteen in
the nation for receptions that traveled twenty plus yards, through
(01:40:34):
the air so he's got. Deep ball versatility and he
also was in the top fifteen in, yards per reception
so there's. Chunk plays there he just couldn't get on
The field at alabama with all the stud receivers, They.
Speaker 1 (01:40:46):
Have there so he might be a guy out, of
the gate, as you know just a.
Speaker 12 (01:40:50):
Special teams player but it also looks to me like
A Hedge if tory horton can't curb the injury issues that.
Speaker 1 (01:40:56):
He's had in college AND. In the nfl of, The
Two cornerbacks Andre Fuller and michael dansby both, seventh round
picks which guy jumps, Out At, you andre fuller and It's.
Speaker 12 (01:41:07):
Nothing against dansby dansby's got some really good tape and
he gave up under a thirty six. Percent Completion Rate
but andre fuller is a junkyard dog.
Speaker 1 (01:41:16):
On the outside he. Is a tackler.
Speaker 12 (01:41:19):
HE is physical i don't know if he's His Physical,
as julie neil but he's a physical player that's. Got
good side he's played, some safety before ran in the high,
four to four so he's got more than. Enough athletic
juice and this guy was a zero star recruit that
had To Go To arkansas pine bluff to start.
Speaker 1 (01:41:35):
His college career like He just screams.
Speaker 12 (01:41:38):
MIKE McDonald corner i mocked him in one of my
early monks in the fifth Round. Of the seahawks getting
him in the seventh round to me is. Really GOOD
value and i also expect him to be a really good.
SPECIAL teams player i expect he's gonna make this roster
when We. Get to august we didn't talk about the first.
Day one guys we spent a lot of, time on
that but just, kind of revisiting Whether, It, be Price.
(01:41:59):
Clark or neil anything that's kind of creeped up that
you've seen the last couple of days have jumped.
Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
Out at you.
Speaker 12 (01:42:05):
NOTHING really, surprising i mean all three OF those players
i was well versed on going into.
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
THIS draft process i like all.
Speaker 12 (01:42:13):
Three, As Fits, AGAIN jadarian price i think the wide
zone is. His breadon butters he said that is the
offensive scheme that best fits. His RUNNING style so i
think he's gonna be able to hit the Ground Running in.
Brian Flurry's offense bud clark with his, ballhawking and instincts
you pair him with what they already have. IN the
secondary i think he's got a chance to be a
(01:42:34):
really impactful Rookie for the seahawks and their nickel.
Speaker 1 (01:42:38):
And dime sets, And.
Speaker 12 (01:42:39):
You know neil's the one that you might have to
wait a little bit for the defense for him to
be a guy that. Makes AN impact but i expect
that he's going to be a contributor, down the line
and he's certainly gonna help them on special teams out.
Of the gate it has a really high ceiling still
as a player that's only played corner, for Three years.
Speaker 1 (01:42:55):
Corporus smith joining a central c spectrum roster now is
effectively he set n drafted free agents and still kind.
Of trickling in but there still seems to be a.
Spot out there if the one place they did not
address in the offseason in the draft Was replacing boy mafe.
On the edge what do You Think? ABOUT dante fowler
(01:43:16):
i know you thinking a few days ago you thought.
He'd be here Do You think dante fowler is Gonna?
BE a seahawk i still think that's The direction the seahawks.
ARE gonna go i would say there's a couple other
guys out there they could consider that are. A Little,
Older Von miller cameron jordan are still.
Speaker 12 (01:43:31):
Available AS well so i Would still think fowler would
be the most natural fit because HE'S played For.
Speaker 1 (01:43:37):
Ad and dirday he is a guy that's already been.
IN the building i think he is the.
Speaker 12 (01:43:42):
Most natural fit of the fact of matter is he
still had a really good pass rush win.
Speaker 1 (01:43:46):
Rate last year it might not have, led to sacks
but he was still Effective.
Speaker 12 (01:43:50):
For THE commanders so i think that is the best fit,
on That Front unless john schneider has a, trade cooking,
up which look they've got a lot of draft. Picks
next year maybe that's something that. We SHOULDN'T discount but
I Still Expect dante fowler junior is gonna be the one.
Speaker 1 (01:44:06):
THAT has SIGNED i, just i, mean, His decision right
so as, a free agent it's his decision what he.
WANTS to do i do wonder if the Dirt A
slash DeMarcus lawrence factor kicks in and gives you out
a little bit. Of, AN edge, plus, i mean listen
if you're coming in, at this point you're not making, the,
big money right the big money guys have. Already been,
signed you're, you're you know tier three in terms of
(01:44:26):
money IS. IN the nfl i got to think that,
those two guys, plus oh wait you're going to a
team that can Contend For a.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
Super.
Speaker 1 (01:44:34):
Bowl AGAIN yeah and i think it's also just.
Speaker 12 (01:44:37):
THE culture aspect I think that fowler he's heard from people,
he's played with that he's played for in, terms of
coaches like he he knows what, to expect there and
you've made this a top ticket for free, agents now
again especially at this stage of free agency that are
wanting to latch on with a team that still feels
like they can. Make An impact DeMarcus lawrence signed much,
(01:45:00):
earlier last year but there was a lot, of, similar,
murmurs like well how much is left?
Speaker 11 (01:45:03):
In?
Speaker 12 (01:45:03):
The tank right you've Heard That With, Dante fowler junior
like you put him on a team where he is
just going to be a role guy that comes into.
PASS rushing downs i think he can still be a,
very effective player especially playing.
Speaker 1 (01:45:15):
FOR a contender i just think it makes sense, for
both sides and it's not gonna be a. Cost prohibitive
move Seattlehawk If, they adham corman If They, add dante
fowler and with what they did, in the draft where
are they in terms of the roster compared to the one.
Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
THAT won it.
Speaker 12 (01:45:31):
I told you this Last year And i'm still i'm
gonna say it. AGAIN right now i thought they were
a year ahead of. SCHEDULE last Year I think bud
clark can be a Better Player. THAN kobe bryant I
Think that julian neo can be a more complete Player
Than what. RAKE wollen was I Think that jadian price
can be a more complete Payer Player than.
Speaker 1 (01:45:53):
Ken walker third there's a lot.
Speaker 12 (01:45:54):
Of could be in that obviously with, them being rookies
but he just didn't, lose very much and then he
went out and got these players in The Draft and
SAM donald and jsn in. YEAR two TOGETHER i just
i think that this team is destined to be right
in the thick of things to, win IT again and
i think their roster has more upside now than it
(01:46:15):
did this.
Speaker 1 (01:46:15):
Time last year i'll tell you the ONLY thing that
i DON'T know if, i say, it WORRIES me but
i guess my biggest question mark is a first. Time, offensive, coordinator.
Speaker 12 (01:46:24):
Yep yep That would be that would be the ONLY
area THAT i would i, JUST but look I Just
think brian fleury's gonna do a. Really good job and
he was a guy that was on my short list
two Years Ago. Behind CLINT kubiak so i think he
is a guy that has just set well to be
a really. Good offensive coordinator but we'll have to wait
and see because we just don't have any evidence yet
(01:46:45):
what he's going.
Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
To DO well and I think and, i say that
and then in the back, Of my mind i'm thinking
This was a mike McDonald. Higher all, right and look
if there's Any Criticism, of john schneider it's just that
HE kind of i know, what McDonald said but we all,
know the truth like he kind Of Forced The Ryan
grubbs scott huff thing on. McDonald's first year and then
McDonald had the chance to make It right and benton
(01:47:09):
as the offensive line coach and obviously what's Going on
not mike uh and and then obviously with, With You,
know clint kobiak he made, the, right, choices right like
he did what needed, to get done and they take
Him To. THE super bowl i don't. THINK he's high
I JUST in. Mike i trust we say Always SAY in.
JOHN i trust I THINK in. Mike i trust and
that's probably why flurry to me would probably he may
end up being a.
Speaker 12 (01:47:29):
Home, Run HIGHER yeah and i think you, Just, GOTTA
look look i don't want to be picking on the low,
hanging FRUIT here Because I know pete carroll had a rough.
Speaker 1 (01:47:37):
Single, season with vegas but like you're just seeing.
Speaker 12 (01:47:40):
DIFFERENT approaches Here I think pete carroll just did not
dip deep enough into going after the best coaches that
he could get and was leaning too much on his
buddies and, his you, know his kids, And you know
mike McDonald is not doing.
Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
Any of that mike McDonald is out looking for.
Speaker 12 (01:47:56):
THE best, coach, I Mean, HEY thomas hammack i know
you're Head Coach at, you're alma mater but how about
you come BACK.
Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
To the nfl and he gets into his running back.
Coach real quick is. A fantastic coach that's. An underrated
hire but who is he and where did they?
Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
Get him from they Got Him, from.
Speaker 12 (01:48:14):
Northern illinois the same school, that Ironically Enough beat Notre
Dame in south bend, two years ago and he was
the head coach and he was, the head coach and
he Has Made sure tadarian price knows that in the last,
couple of years, And uh yeah price made sure to
tell us that he always brings it up every. Time we,
TALK so yeah i think he Is an Outstanding he
(01:48:36):
was baltimore's running back coach for five years when McDonald
was early in, his Coaching career and baltimore would have
guys get hurt and they'd still have one of the top.
FIVE rushing teams i think he is, a fantastic coach
and the fact he's been a head coach at, THE
college level i think it's Just another guy mike McDonald,
can LEAN on and i just think he's done a
masterful job of hiring the right coaches.
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
That also fit the culture.
Speaker 5 (01:48:59):
That, they have.
Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
Yeah, No, doubt well cormyn this. Has been fun i'm
going to say we, would say goodbye but, you know
what there's a there's a rookie mini camp taking, Place
THIS weekend So i think i'm gonna find a way
to get you on next week and talk about that.
Speaker 5 (01:49:10):
If we.
Speaker 1 (01:49:10):
CAN sounds good i always enjoy the.
Speaker 12 (01:49:14):
Rookie mini camp, but unless uh, two years ago when
it looked like we could have had eighth graders out
there playing quarterback, completing, MORE passes well i don't think
we'll have that.
Speaker 1 (01:49:23):
Issue, this year no they bring what's his face gets?
Laugh in right the kid from that WAS A by u,
and then yeah they're bringing in some solid.
Speaker 12 (01:49:29):
Quarterbacks to throws, two, YEARS ago Man I remember GREG
bell and i were just on the sideline, permanent cringe
faces like what? ARE we watching i think there was
like an eight percent completion right that, THAT second practice i.
Speaker 1 (01:49:43):
Think they could Have just grabbed humil and. He got
done Just just grab humilon off, the sideline here we
just need you to, go through this. This and this
thanks perfect would have BEEN better than. I think that
i do remember how.
Speaker 12 (01:49:53):
BAD that, Was i mean i'm not joking that the
way that some OF the, guy i mean we could
have put some of the. Reporters out there it would have,
been slow throws but they probably would have.
Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
Been, more accurate yeah that. Was, not good hey let's

AFTER the game i guess, that's better obliquey. Which isn't
great we've all been witness to what oblique. Injuries, can
do yeah but it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:53:51):
What They're saying and i'll be, HONEST with you i
never believe anything after a game from a manager talking about.
A baseball pitcher but what they're saying is was a
so hopefully not Ian was the bruins overtime winter last. Night,
off sides no, it was close but it. Was on, site, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:54:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:54:11):
Uh let's, see jim says it's. AN interesting one i.
DIDN'T see it i didn't, care ABOUT it and i hate,
those things anyway and they've. Gotten Even worse, But Jim
says ron STOKES Unveiling on nba countdown was for. ME
a Circus i guess i'm old out of touch wondering
how much you Got. Paid, BY kansas god i can't
stand The nil pay these guys on the table like
(01:54:32):
good old days where more people cared about college, athletics
and True just get hi out of the let's just go.
Under THE table, But, I honestly jim i. Think you're
right It was a it was a Better Process when
posh lapoi's got cash and a styal form cup at
it wherever he was At here in washington, when he's
coaching or the one hundred dollars handshakes you're. Getting Across
way but i'm With you, the, stokes saying listen did
(01:54:56):
you expect anything different from a kid That's from back
east ended up going to High, school in california was
going to, get kicked out Ended Up At Rainier.
Speaker 2 (01:55:06):

Speaker 1 (01:55:06):
High school here the whole. Thing's a, circus, we, uh
yes yes the whole. Thing's a circus where do You
think the hawks Could have got jadarian price god to?
The second Round Just from john schneider's Reaction, AFTERWARDS on
thursday i think they. THOUGHT he could i think they
(01:55:27):
thought he could get him at least maybe early in.
The second, round but, Listen he's. Here he's fine move.
On the, whole you know drafting too high. AND all
that i can, tell you this. Teams don't care the
only thing he Cared about was schneider did want to
use that thirty second pick to get some other picks
that were higher Than the seventh, roundesday communulated later that's.
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
ALL that's fair i Also like What great co sell
said about like anyone who tries to play the value game, with,
draft picks like who knows when you could?
Speaker 11 (01:55:59):
Have?
Speaker 3 (01:55:59):
Gotten someone right you want to just get players that
you feel like and help. Your football team it's a,
pretty simple process to. Be, completely, honest yeah so?
Speaker 1 (01:56:08):
Uh Why not cam jordan says the two five TO
three he's i, know he's older but look at his
production forty twenty five Better Stats. AND dante fowler i
think The familiarity with fowler is why they're they're. Chasing,
him down Yeah with third Ay And the marcus lawrence
then who knows how. That stuff works there's times when
it makes sense to sign a guy, Here, there whenever
(01:56:30):
oh somebody did, help Me out because houghten is The
neighborhood in kirkland where the, parking ride is where they're
in A, New kay houghton thank. You Very, Much oh

Speaker 1 (01:56:38):
I mean neither i've been around, a long time Never
Heard of houghton Hot the. Neighborhood kirkland's words? How about
this a five and one road trip, for the marriage
they come home and retire another, FIFTY one coincidence.
Speaker 2 (01:56:50):
I think not.
Speaker 1 (01:56:53):
That is from the, two five.
Speaker 3 (01:56:54):
Three those who are wondering what the reference is the
last when They unveiled the ichiro statue, and It broke
when danny Was, on with ian, they were like this
is the perfect way to wake up there at bats,
and it did.
Speaker 1 (01:57:07):
And it did and a five to, one, road trip
yeap retiring fifty, one coming back. LET'S do it i
think it, all makes sense.
Speaker 2 (01:57:13):
Does it not.
Speaker 9 (01:57:15):
It's all about. The fifty ones two.
Speaker 2 (01:57:18):
Six have to.
Speaker 1 (01:57:19):
Disagree With you cole young will not be our two
batteries destined. For shortstop LEADS all of mlb and fielding
has at least as Strong as arms crawford. Twice the
arrange cole's destined to be. A three bagger his arms.
Actually quite weak. IT'S very weak i think it MIGHT Be.
WORSE jp Cross i think chris mentioned it the other
day that his his throwing speed is in the bottom
(01:57:39):
two or three percent, isle, in baseball right seventy five. Mile,
an hour right it's like, it's very low like he's
he's a second basement and that's.
Speaker 3 (01:57:47):
Against second basement so percent it's in, the fourth percentile
seventy two.
Speaker 1 (01:57:52):
Miles an hour let's go BACK to. The nfl draft fourth, Percentile,
not good no one, hundred percentile. Good very good one.
Percentile really bad. So four bad it's. Close to bad
and that's just. An arm strength we'll.
Speaker 2 (01:58:08):
Live with it we'll.
Speaker 1 (01:58:09):
Live, with that yeah and you're. At second base you
don't need to have.
Speaker 3 (01:58:11):
A strong arm AND you and i think second base
is an underrated, defensive position anyway because of how the, shift,
works now right you can move guys around before you
kind of just put second basement in kind of a
spot where they didn't have to. Move very much you
have to have range now as. A SECOND basement and
i think That's why coul young as a second basement.
Speaker 1 (01:58:30):
Makes, total sense well by the, way, he hits yeah
that's six yeld GAMES.
Speaker 2 (01:58:34):
With, an rbi.

Speaker 2 (02:04:38):
Said?
Speaker 13 (02:04:38):
New team said new team's gonna be really. Fun to
watch they're gonna play at a. Really high tempo they're.
SUPER ridiculously young i mean they're gonna have a front
court of a nineteen and a.
Speaker 1 (02:04:49):
Twenty. Year OLD yeah, so, i mean yeah are you
gonna take your? Number one pick? Is you got last
year's number two?
Speaker 13 (02:04:54):
Pick, is twenty yeah this year's, number three pick who
many thought probably is the highest up side player in
the entire draft that could, have gone.
Speaker 1 (02:05:02):
One, She's nineteen, wow so yeah it's.
Speaker 13 (02:05:06):
Gonna be, exciting so yeah It's gonna be it's gonna
be a, season of wow how good can these?
Speaker 2 (02:05:11):
Two?
Speaker 13 (02:05:12):
Players be like what is their what? Does their ceiling
and that's what we're going to find. Out this season flow.
Flage a flage sorry to, get THAT right but i
gotta think about, it SOMETIMES too because i was like
it kind of when when, you write, it it's flauge,
you write It but it's flageflage named, after her dad who.
Speaker 1 (02:05:33):
Was a rapper she's. Also, a rapper yeh got. Like
two million.
Speaker 13 (02:05:38):
But she's a really good. Basketball player too she had
double digits in. Her first game her Dad's. Name was
camouflage that was. His rapper name so flag.
Speaker 1 (02:05:46):
Flage, flage to me. IS is exciting i mean, the
other two the two front core Players, are, both european,
right you Know and the english is okay. But not
great for her is they move into?
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
This new era like what?
Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Do you need? You, Need Personality right and i'm gonna,
Say this too i'll be. HONEST with you i think.
YOU need likability i think it was a very unlikable
team the last. Couple, Of years well skyler could. BE
very salty i think. That was there and she was
the Head.
Speaker 13 (02:06:12):
Of the snake she was The head of Snke and
and nechA was like She Was, like, el presidente right
she was just like the mother, of the league the
president OF The W, Nba players association so she was very,
like buttoned up but she would. Also be Opinionated and
then skyler, was you know she. Was very opinionated this
team is just going to be like it's Gonna be
Like Clifford The, big red dog going.
Speaker 1 (02:06:33):
To, be FUN well like i look at the success
the torrent had and a LOT of it i think
was based on there were, some Great personalities and hillary
obviously the top, of the list and how, she handles
herself How. SHE carried hillary i made mention this When We,
had hannah bilka who's a gold medalist is on the.
Team as well we had her on the Pregame show
FOR cracking, AND i, said i, Said you Know Hannah
(02:06:54):
or hillary knight Reminds Me. Of sue bird, first of
all it's like if it probably looks by side, Like gold,
medals world, championships you know all these creations like as decorates.
You could be and the way she carries herself has
that aura about her and that, presence about her and,
when she speaks when she Spoke, after the olympics and
(02:07:15):
how things were handled by the men's team and the
call from the. President All that how hillary handled that
there Was especially because megan was there trying to stir
the pot up in, his press conference throw, a you
know throw a firecrack, in The, hornets and hillary Very
much like, sue probably do diffused it but still talked
about it. And HANDLED it and I think that i
(02:07:37):
think that gave them that presence and hopefully they.
Speaker 2 (02:07:39):
Don't lose her.
Speaker 1 (02:07:39):
AN expansion draft i don't know what, they're GONNA do
but i think, you need, THAT you KNOW i think
i think it's something the. Cracking are missing you need
to have, personalities.
Speaker 13 (02:07:46):
And press you need to have a face, of the
franchise and you'll have your superstars. In the bigs and
then like you Mentioned, WITH with fage i mean she
Is going to SHE is what i found out very
quickly in watching the first game.
Speaker 1 (02:07:59):
Of the season she Is not an instagram.
Speaker 13 (02:08:02):
Sensation playing basketball she's a great basketball player Who's also.
An INSTAGRAM sensation because i, didn't Really know like i've
seen her in, college AND stuff but i got.
Speaker 1 (02:08:12):
A passion stat pad like. Her, ex teammates right she
said throw it up and purposely. Missed, five times yeah
WHO was the nba player that did that trying to
get a triple. DOUBLE years ago. I remember that do
you REMEMBER that an nba, player THAT famously because i
don't Think it was russell was somebody that was trying
to do It. For the jazz why It was the jazz.
(02:08:33):
COME to mind. I don't know they didn't have, any
that good so it couldn't.
Speaker 9 (02:08:36):
Have.
Speaker 1 (02:08:36):
Been them donovan donovan wouldn't, have done that and, he'd
be like there's A guy who's i, want to say
with Some of the nuggets, for some, reason but okay
so may were the, same time zone, But, it was
yeah some of them FAMOUSLY, in the nba it's probably ten,
plus years ago had Like a had all they needed
was a rebound and they had a breakaway at the
(02:08:56):
end of the game and the. Guy Missed it ricky
davis keep the eight. Thousand and three. That was It
and then jannis did. IT in Too i remember yannis a. Few,
years ago yeah we're gonna miss up.
Speaker 13 (02:09:06):
And he smiled he kind of, like went up, grabbed
the rebound put, it back up and he kind of
like joked about it on.
Speaker 1 (02:09:12):
THE way back I don't think. ANGEL purposely does i
think she.
Speaker 2 (02:09:15):
Just isn't good.
Speaker 1 (02:09:17):
What are you got?
Speaker 13 (02:09:18):
Coming up today, Oh My goodness michael dansby's going. To
join us the seventh round Pick, Of, The Shoks, petrose
larry stone have it talk about the Red the red
hot On.
Speaker 1 (02:09:27):
The road Seattle This was larry stone five to one
trip coming home to retire. Number fifty one? How About
That and mike florio in like. Ten Fifteen minutes, but
fowler stuff he's, all Over That the. Dante fowler stuff
i'll be curious to what he's what he says. With you,
guys all, right how good. Shell see it thanks for
the mild mannered and Marginally.
Speaker 12 (02:09:47):
Objectionable the inverness this, is paddle day saying so long
everyone
