Jessica Campbell is no longer going to be with the Kraken. The Randy Johnson jersey retirement takes place this weekend, and Ian goes down memory lane regarding why he ended up here and why he left. He is one of the few players in professional sports who was worth the price of admission no matter what. Those players are few and far between and he was among them.
12:20 - We revisit our conversation with Greg Cosell, who broke down what he saw from the Seahawks as well as those around the NFC West. Are the Rams truly in a 'win now' situation, because it sure looks like it. The Seahawks sale is imminent, and some big names are rumored to have interest. No matter what happens, or who is rumored to be interested, the NFL will be heavily involved. Is it fair to compare Felix Hernandez to Randy Johnson? Who meant more to their respective teams? Eno Sarris, The Athletic tells Ian what Randy Johnson means to the game of baseball and whether we'll ever see anyone like him again. He also tells us the one comparison he sees between Randy and Felix Hernandez. He sees Felix as a Hall of Famer and votes for him. What counts as an actual save? We review what we've seen from the Mariners' bullpen and how we define a closer. The Daily Power Play! Jessica Campbell exits the Kraken, but she showed young girls they have a place in professional hockey. Ian shares The Dumbest Thing You'll Hear Today! Stephen A Smith says PGA golfers who jumped to LIV deserve to be welcomed back and praised. How could he possibly think that way when LIV tried to take down the PGA while essentially accepting blood money? Checking in on the Talkbacks and Texts! We listen into Seahawks rookie running back Jadarian Price as he takes the podium at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center to address the media after being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Crosstalk with Softy!

three victory yesterday appear to be warming up, whether it
does in the Seattle as well. Cole Young comes up
clutch again. He is something else. Game time double in
the seventh go, had two runs single in the ninth.
RBIs in six straight games for the Mariners second basement,
only a little blemish. The concern about Matt Brash left

(00:28):
with some side discomfort. I've got that. We all have that,
don't we. I mean daily, Yeah, discomfort everywhere. Yeah, it's
called being sixty Seahawks at the field for workout during

it's a Thursday. Just Ess and I today our just

Speaker 3 (01:52):

Speaker 2 (01:55):
You can't just say we're going to mutually part ways
and go do something else. Jessica Campbell with me, Yeah, yeah, no,
that's not the case. Jess Campbell's out. Jess Campbell's out,
Just McIntyre's here, Andrews work the morning show. So he
didn't want to stick around for some reason. I don't
know why. I didn't want to do eight hours of
radio or something. What's wrong with him?

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
God slacking.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, he's hanging out with his baby or something.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Young people these days, young people these days. Anyway, we
roll on, touching on the marror. I got a middle
of minor Raddy Johnson think I want to get to
I know, the guys in the afternoon. We're discussing it yesterday.
We'll get to that in a heartbeat. Greg Cosell will
join us twelve twenty. If you were with us yesterday
during the one o'clock hour, yeah, he was on it
one but you know what, that's right during the midst
of a three run comeback in the ninth inning and

(02:36):
said Greg was really good wrapping up the draft for
many of you who didn't see it or hear it.
We're gonna have that coming up again at twelve twenty
one twenty Eno Serius will join us, and then three
two o'clock, Ja Dari and Price News conference is always
four nine, four five one to come a dotch text
line four nine four or five to one. You can
also send a talk back in iHeartRadio app red microphone
and speak in two existence. We'll mention that we'll talk

(03:00):
a little bit about the Jessica Campbell news. Is significant
for a lot of reasons, mostly because she was such
a groundbreaker and you know, knock down a couple of
barriers to become the first female syst. We'll do that
one forty five today as well, and I'll touch in
on probably at one o'clock on the Seahawks ownership situation
too as well. I do want to hit on this.
Randy Johnson's number is gonna be retired on Saturday, cool

(03:20):
weekend coming up for the Mariners the second time fifty
one is being retired because, of course another guy wore
it by the name of each row Suzuki, so that
already took place. I love the fact they're doing the
separate things. It's fine, they both wore the same number.
It's okay. I'm not going to dwell on that. I
don't care. I I because you know, the big unit
was you just think about how different they were in
so many ways. But I do I was listening to

(03:44):
the conversation with Softy and fame. I don't where it
ended up. I'll talk to Softy during crosstalk, you know,
greatest mirrors of all time and all that. You know,
I had to go back and look and see because
Randy Johnson spent ten of his twenty two years in
the big leagues here in Seattle. Ten of the twenty
two basically years three through thirteen. His first two years
he spent in Montreal with the Expos and then came

(04:04):
to Seattle, where he won a Cy Young with the
Mariners in nineteen ninety five. He finished second in the
Cy Young two other times with the Mariners and finished
third as well. He was an All Star one, two, three,
four five times with Seattle. One of those times, frankly,
it was because they had to have an All Star.
That was nineteen ninety That's how baseball works. But the

(04:25):
other times were very much well deserved. You know, always
in the MVP conversation, things.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Like that.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Greatest Mariner of all time, I don't know if I
would go there, and is he the greatest pitcher ever here?
Well in terms of just they what they were and
who he was as a pitcher. Yeah, he was better
than Felix. Hate to admit that, love Felix to death.
The Randy Johnson story is a complicated one though, because

(04:56):
the twist with Randy Johnson that's kind of crazy is
that you have to go back and remember why Randy
Johnson was a Mariner in the first place, and then
why he wasn't a Mariner in the second place. So
Randy Johnson was traded to Seattle by the Montreal Expos.

(05:17):
And so the Expos traded him to Seattle, and the
reason was the Mariners were not going to be able
to And this is the craziest, cruelest twist of all.
I don't know if people have seen the Exposed documentary
on Netflix. It's phenomenal. The but he was traded by
the Exposed to Seattle along with Gene Harris and Brian Holmgren. Brian,

(05:41):
I'll think of his name in a second, Bear with me,
I said, Holmegren. It's not home grin. But he was
traded to Seattle. And the problem, and here's here is
the thing is because this Mariners could not afford to
let Mark Langston walk in the off season because of
a contract situation of money.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Right like like it.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
That's that's what's crazy. Like, think about this a team
that ends up going out of business, what ten to
fifteen years later, Like the Mariners traded for Randy Johnson
because they couldn't afford to keep Mark Langston, but the
Expos were going to go for it mode well, and
then how did Randy Johnson leave here? To leave Seattle

(06:25):
because the Mariners weren't going to be able to keep him.
They were cheap, right, Like Brian Holman, I was sitt Homegron,
I would say holmegren Homegren. Brian Holman, who was really
a good pitcher for Seattle. Geene Harris is a really
good reliever for Seattle. Randy Johnson was a throw in six'
ten guy that walked a ton of, people was wild as.

(06:45):
Hell nobody knew if this guy was going to be
a full time big. Leaguer And Randy johnson comes To
seattle and then just, blossoms absolutely blossoms and has a
twenty two year. Career hard throwing left tander maybe the
most probably the most intimidating player on the mound during
his two plus decades in. Baseball But seattle got him
because they couldn't afford to keep or weren't. Willing, listen

(07:09):
we can always it's. Baseball you can afford whatever you.
Decide you didn't want to pay the money to Keep Mark,
lanson a dominant left, hander great player For. Seattle you
didn't want to keep. Him that was a story of
The mariners back. Then good players. Left the joke was
always were developing people for The yankees or whoever else
was a big market.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Team that was quite a pipeline back.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Down and think about this as we say all that
the situation With randy John you went to the you
Traded lanks into the. Expos they went out of business
a few years, later many years, later but they. Did
but The marriors couldn't afford. Him then The mariners have
to trade him in nineteen ninety eight because they can't

(07:52):
afford to keep. Him they don't want to spend the.
Money it's. Insane The Randy johnson, story to, me is
like one of the most complicated things out. There but
when he was, here he gave us some of the
greatest moments, ever coming in from the, bullpen playoff, games
things like, that just terrific in so many. Ways always
somewhat grumpy And. SULLEN i did a lot of interviews

(08:15):
with him when he was here in the early nineties
WHEN i was working At como as a. Producer hard
guy to talk, TO i think to this, day hard
guy to talk, to just had A i think the
THING i sort of respected about it, though looking, back
Is Randy johnson had the same demeanor with everybody day
to day as he did on the, mound equal.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Opportunity he was.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Just like that's who he. Was, like there's some people
that turn it on and turn it. Off this dude
just was that. Way probably what made him, great the
fact that he pitched as long as he, did the
fact that he had in the big. LEAGUES i, mean
just think about, this in the big, leagues he pitched
six hundred and eighteen, games four one hundred and thirty

(08:59):
five and third. Innings in today's, world that just doesn't.
Happen it just does not. Happen three hundred and three.
WINS i don't know if we'll ever see a three
hundred game winner, again because guys get taken. Out you
didn't take this dude. Out you didn't take this dude,
out and you don't want to do. That he was
an absolute machine to, me one of the few players

(09:22):
in sports when he was playing that's worth the price
of admission on his. OWN i, think, like like really in,
sport like THE, nba Or i'll go back to THE
nba saying THE nfl is. Different you go to a
game because it's seventeen a, year it's once a. Week
the brand is more important than the. Star, yeah there's

(09:43):
star players all through the. League, yeah do you want
to See Patrick mahomes, Play, sure, Whatever but really it's
about the, team the logo of the name and all.
That there are star, players but you don't, pay you,
know you just, say, hey he's worth the price of
admission for AN nfl. GAME i don't think that really.
HAPPENS nhl has a couple guys that are getting to
be that it used to. Be gretzky was that way
When gretzky was at like one guy's worth the price

(10:04):
of Admission ovechkin in his chase for the but really
it's it Was. Gretzky THE nba is kind of the
star driven, league, right like like you like if you
have a chance to go See lebron play, sometime and
whether he's the greatest of all time you want to,
debate that's. Fine mike was worth. THAT i Remember Bernie

(10:24):
bickerstaff famously said when he was coaching The seattle way
back when it was early In mike's creer, goes this
guy never plays a road. Game every game is a
home game for. Him kobe was Out, Way shaq was Out,
Way mike was Out, Way Larry bird was out, Way.
Magic those, guys they were worth the price of. Admission
they're just bigger than. Life baseball didn't have a lot
of those, guys but it. Did it had a. Few
Barry bonds might fill in that. Category McGuire in his
prime so so in they're chase all those. Things But

(10:47):
Randy johnson was a guy that's worth the price of
admission just how unique he. Was and there's big guys
now that you, know there's guys that are six six, six,
seven six eight, pitching But randy at six' ten, just different.
Absolutely different it's a. Complicated story did he force his
way Out? Of seattle? Kind Of Did seattle seattle cheap at? The,

(11:08):
time yes would have been great if they would have kept.
Him here and what could? HAVE happened, i mean that's
the thing we look Back, on seattle no. Salary cap
if you could Have kept randy a, rod junior all
for different reasons and different issues, going on all, those
things what could. Have Been but randy was worth the price.
Of admission but he was complicated. As Well greatest mariner of,

(11:31):
all time greatest picture of. All time statistically probably right
statistically you look back ten Years. In seattle what he
Did in seattle was was pretty. Damn remarkable one hundred
and eighteen wins With, the mariners sixty, two losses a
two point eighty three e or a three point four

(11:51):
to two era.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
In.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
That time, i'm sorry one thirty and, seventy four one
thirty and, seventy four, that's crazy six thirty seven. Winning
percentage just what, he was what, he did how he
entertained us in a time in which baseball for many
of his, years here the late eighties up until, ninety
five the first, what, one, two, three, four five six

(12:16):
years of, his career that team was Awful. In seattle
he was worth the price. Of admission, ALL right i.
Can't wait he's gonna end up Being the he'll honor
be Honor, on saturday if we're lucky enough to be
going enjoy take it. ALL in i know we can
sometimes get upset Here in seattle about the quote Ninety
five mariners and how much we celebrate them and, all
THAT and i, understand THAT and i do understand at

(12:40):
times it's like it feels like it's a, little much
but understand. As Well without Edgar and Junior and randy
and others in, ninety five we're sitting here in town.
Without BASEBALL so i think it's okay to still pay
tribute to that team in. Ninety five and then some
we'll take. A Break greg cosel wrapping Up THE Sea.

(13:02):
Ok draft next.

eyes go why does that guy? Sound familiar he Sounds Like. Doug,
baldwin yeah we got a lot of TEXTERS and i

like voight like like if you're just the two of
them are talking side, by side they be hard, to
distinguish at least with us on when our interview on

(14:43):
the Phone, On friday And like doug very, thought out,
every answer very well, thought out like there's. No cliches

uh looking forward to hearing from him when he gets
officially announced By. The seahawks coming up at two, o'clock
today Our Own greg bell From The news tribune will,
be THERE so i will carry that for you at.
Two o'clock, You know sarrus will. Join us coming up

(15:03):
today at. One twenty we'll probably try to talk to
you a little Bit About randy johnson and his legacy
as he gets his number retarded. This weekend and we'll
also check in In The, luis castile letting you, know
know we got to Talk about Louie, the Rock. The
castile he not it ain't good. Right now the rock
ain't good. Right now don't.

Speaker 6 (15:19):
Like it let's ride.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
The rock but let's talk WITH the. Nfl draft yesterday
during the show might have been during a ninth inning
rally by the. Baseball team We had greg. Cosell on
so much fun to Talk to greg again, this year all.
This season he was brought to you By The, Hall Group,
Occidental Hall Queen Anne, beer hall and of Course The
Kirkland Moss. Bay hall great food. And listen if you're

(15:41):
going to the games, this Weekend Including Randy johnson Night,
on saturday before and after, the game your spot Is
The occidental hall it's right next to It's On occidental
crazy down. The alley you go past, all that you.
Really easy you go right past the hot dog stands
in the little the souvenir shops there on. The left
the looming field is on, the right and the what

(16:02):
would it be the northwest Entrance To lumen field right
there in. The corner it's. Right there can't.

Speaker 7 (16:07):
Miss It.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Oxtenal hall Five dollars smashburger's post game. As well that's an,
unbelievable price especially Especially, IN yeah i didn't think About the. Seattle,
factor yes You're In katie, wilson's town, so yeah it's
gonna cost a lot. Of money and post game On,
a sunday you don't want. To cook it's four or,
five o'clock go Gre, yourself, smashburger right so go check.

(16:29):
That out big thanks to them for the support of us.
All year So Here's. Greg cosell we had our final
draft wrap up with our Films guru greg. Co cell
all he can do is tell us what the, tape
SAYS and i started by asking about his favorite thing
IN the. Nfl draft that would be the. Draft grades,
YOU know i don't know what.

Speaker 7 (16:46):
THAT means, i mean when people SAY that, i get
they obviously know way MORE than. I do they must
know what all thirty two teams draft boards looks. LOOK like,
I DON'T so i don't know what. That means, you
know it's a fascinating kind that people with less information
decide that they have a better idea of what teams
should do than teams who have far. More information it's

(17:09):
really a, Fascinating, concept dan don't YOU think?

Speaker 8 (17:11):
I do?

Speaker 9 (17:11):
I do.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
I think the one thing we do Know, with, seattle
though Is A andcu schneider told us this before, the
draft and he told us after day one they wanted to.
Trade down and he told us after, Day, one yeah,
we tried. We moved it was a wild end of
the first. Round though there was all those picks in
Front of seattle got Moved In san francisco moved down
twice to get all the way out of the. First

(17:32):
round so there was a lot of movement, taking place
a lot of things going on there that, kind of,
you know probably threw a little monkey wrench Into what
seattle wanted to do And What john schneyder wanted. To
do but in, the end they do pick. Thirty, second
overall we talked about, him before but let's let's go
back And revisit Jedari.

Speaker 7 (17:47):
And, price, yeah well the bottom line is they do
not have a number one, running back and even with
a Healthy, charvion a he's not. That Guy so price
can be that that has a very strong traits, profile, size, decisiveness,
burst toughness. He's competitive obviously he was. A compliment he

(18:09):
only had two hundred and thirty three total carries in
his last two, years there so there's not a lot
of tread on. The tires. You KNOW obviously i did
not know who was going to, draft HIM but i
thought THAT when i. Watched him ONE point i made
was that he showed the desirable combination of trades that
WOULD lead nfl teams to believe he could be a.

(18:30):
Feature back and obviously he was drafted more than likely
to be. That guy you don't draft the back in the,
first round, you know not to be somewhat of a.
Feature back, he's decisive he's got short, area burst he's
got some explosiveness.

Speaker 5 (18:47):
TO him.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
I liked him. A lot, i mean, YOU know i
came away believing he could be a feature back and
depending on, the SYSTEM and i think that's a good system.
For him and, don't forget, you know keep in mind
who their new offensive. Coordinator is coordinator is who Came From. San.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Francisco, Yeah absolutely let's let's just kind of talk about
some of, the things like he's. Addressed it we've talked.
About it we Talked to Schneider and mike McDonald. About it,
you know the one thing he doesn't do is catch
the ball on. The backfield but it's not because. He didn't,
you know. He can't he didn't have a lot. Of
opportunities how hard is it, For you how hard is

(19:22):
it for you to evaluate a guy like this who's
playing behind the number three pick in.

Speaker 7 (19:25):
The, draft well all you can say is you didn't
see it. ON tape i would never say he can't.
Do it that's not what he was asked to do With.
Notre dame it wasn't Necessary Because jeremiah love is a
terrific Receiver And jeremiah love is one of those backs
that you could detach from the formation and run wide.
Receiver Routes so price was not asked to fill. That

(19:46):
Role because i'm just sitting in my Office at films
and not going to a pro day or not working.
Him out it's very possible he's got. GOOD hands i
don't know the answer, to THAT so i wouldn't say
he can't. DO it i would JUST say i didn't
see it. On tape it's very possible he does have.
Good hands but as far as the, RUNNING part i

(20:07):
liked him. A lot, i mean, you know is he
is he, a shifty elusive. Type, runner no he's probably
more straight, Line linear but, he's physical. He's tough he's sustaining,
type back and that's really what you know that, offense
demands and Certainly With brian flirty there now IS the
oc Coming From. San, francisco look he's got really good

(20:30):
competitive toughness price and that's what you love. ABOUT him,
i mean this guy gets hard yards.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
The uh like the ability to read you can see
that on, tape though right to read.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
The, HOLES.

Speaker 7 (20:42):
Yeah i mean he's, you know when you're, a back
normally in, run games what what what you coach is
the first, two steps because you have to start. A
path you have to start the path based on what
the run call is and how it's going to. Be
blocked but after you take your first. Two steps what
happens is. Gaps change THE.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Term i use for THAT is.

Speaker 7 (21:03):
Gaf fluidity there's. Defensive flow the blocking then reacts. To
that so you then have to have the ability after
those first two step steps to read how the blocks
match THE the gaf fluidity and the. Defensive flow and
you know he.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
Was good, at that, All Right, Greg cosell johny was
about to be. The holder let's Get To BUD clark
tcu safety that's kind of all over. The field, you
know they Lost Obviously. Kobe bryant, you know people would, just,
say hey they drafted. A safety he's a Replacement For.
Kobe bryant feels like he's a different Player Than. Kobe
bryant what do you See With. Bud, Clark yeah clark's a.

Speaker 7 (21:37):
Fascinating player he played both in the slot and at SAFETY.
For tcu but, to me he's. A safety, he's six
he's kind, of, long sinewy he's a. Little thin he ran,
really well he tested really well at. The combine he's got,
great length, great range so you know he can match
up in. The slot but that's REALLY not i think

(21:59):
what they what they drafted him, to do, You know
but he's he's one of those really. Rangy guys he's
very fluid in. His movement he's got really. Long strides
he eats up. GROUND easily i think he easily transitions
as a back, end SAFETY and i think he could
even play snaps with post safety because he's so long
and rangy in. His movement so even though we played

(22:23):
a ton of SLOT, at tcu again without, you know
Being In john schneider's Head or mike, MCDONALD' said i
would think they drafted him to be a safety in.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Their scheme YOU and i talked a lot last Year
About tyle cotta and his development in stepping in at Times.
FOR seattle a safety Position Is bud clark Similar to tylecotta.
At all.

Speaker 7 (22:47):
He's a different kind. Of, player olcotta we, all agree played,
very Well but clark's just, a looser more fluid athlete with. More,
range so, you Know again ocatta is still there And,
lose brian you would Assume o cotta gets the. First opportunity,
you know he played what seven eight games where he
started something like that and. Did Well but clark's a,

(23:10):
different player and, YOU know i hate the term he's around.
The ball because, you KNOW sometimes i think, to, myself
well where else is he supposed? To be is he
supposed to be in the? PARKING lot, i mean, you
know but the fact is is he did make a
lot of interceptions. In college. You know some interceptions occurred
because they're just, bad throws. You know others occurred because
he's just playing his responsibility and the balls thrown. To him,

(23:33):
you know but he did make a lot. Of interceptions
he can't catch, the football but he's just kind of, a,
loose fluid. Rangy athlete he's kind of a fun guy,
to watch just because the way.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
He moves we were talking on draft day when he
got selected On that friday day to the draft with
Your Friend. Hugh millen you've heard a few, millan before
and and you know the Respect that hugh and so
many others Have from mike McDonald and his defensive acumen
and just What what mike. McDonald brings and It's Like
bud clark feels Like a mike, McDonald guy like, he
okay like what can we do?

Speaker 5 (24:02):
With? Him right?

Speaker 2 (24:02):
You know what can we do with?

Speaker 7 (24:03):
Really INTERESTING if i could expound on that first absolutely,
Happening here mike McDonald's speak on social media about THE
the nfl and sort of the changing nature of OFFENSE and,
i think but what offensers are doing more and more
of is they're able to play with two tight ends
and three tight ends and still formationally and route concept

(24:25):
wise play as if they have eleven personnel on, the
field meaning three. Wide receivers so as, a defense if
you do not have to change personnel, very often which
they do not have to do because, of them mean
we have safety and a slot if you choose to.
Do that so now and he whether he's ready to play,
week one we can't answer, that question so, You know

(24:46):
i'm not going to go there because we. Don't know
but once he, is ready now you have two players theoretically,
not theoretically one practically in M and worri and two
Theoretically and clark that you don't have to take off
the field because they can be And then worry can be,
A linebacker clark can be a safety or. A slot,

(25:06):
you know now you don't have to worry about how
do we match up to a. Team's personnel we don't
have to start trying to play that matchup game with
different personnel and potentially.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Get Caught greg coselle. Joining us, all Right julian neal another, defensive,
player cornerback taken with a ninety, ninth pick thirty fifth
pick in the, third round And julian neil's. A gay
they moved down to, get him but they ended up getting.
A guy that boy he jumped on the conference call
with Us, on friday, and man this dude was all About.
JULIAN neal i love the con like you want a

(25:38):
cornerback that, Is, confident greg this guy is filled. With
confidence probably the probably the most entertaining of those calls
we've had in seventeen years of doing that out there
At The Virginia Mason. Athletics center what do you see
on tape From. Julian, neal.

Speaker 7 (25:53):
WELL when i saw that they, DRAFTED him i said,
to myself that didn't surprise me at all because he's
almost six.' to two, he's, a big LONG physical corner
i kept, watching him, thinking you know the one thing
he lacks is that great recovery speed. You know, about
you know if a guy gets on, top of him

(26:13):
he doesn't have that speed that, You'd ultimately like so
can he? Be beaten over the. Top, Of TIMES yes
so i kept going back and forth watching his, tape
and thinking is this guy a, press man corner which
he's very good at, By the way, he's very physical,
that's his, game you know, and he obviously based on what,
You just said i'm sure, he, FEELS like man i

(26:34):
can line up Against anybody and i'm just going to
beat the crap. Out of HIM but then i, thought
to myself is he better off as his zone corner
because just that recovery speed is. A little troublesome but
it did not surprise me at all, given the, size the,
length the. PHYSICALITY the, toughness i mean he played the run.
On the perimeter he was a, willing and. Strong assertive

(26:57):
tackler you know that Means something. To mike McDonald. He
STRUCK me when i. Saw that pick that was the end,
of the, day, day two, right, yeah, Around. Yes CORRECT
yeah when i, SAW that PICK i was, i, was
like oh that's. A seahawk, pick and again whether he's,
ready to, play you know week one who you can never,
Answer those questions, and you know because a guy hasn't

(27:20):
even been through rookie, mini camp, yet you know so
you don't know but he just seemed to me to
Be A perfect seattle. Seahawk Type corner.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Greg cosell joining Us one. MORE seahawks pick i want
to get to you and then we'll touch a little
Bit on the rams and the forty nine ers because
what they do certainly matters to.

Speaker 6 (27:35):
Us out here.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Let's talk about now he's listed as. A wide receiver
kind of feels like a. Special Teams, Guy emmanuel henderson Junior. Out,
of kansas, yeah you.

Speaker 7 (27:47):
Know it's funny there's so many guys as you know
that count draft and wide receivers are like, this in
particular a lot of wide receivers make it and a
lot of wide. Receivers get drafted he is, long six' one.
He can, run well to me he's. A, definite vertical
dimension Now obviously they resigned shaheed, and He's that guy

(28:09):
but henderson is. Also a vertical dimension he's got the
straight line speed to run by get, on top of
corners i'd. Say at this point and the reason he's
drafted where he was is because he's probably a little
bit of a one. Trick pony right, Now he needs
coaching he needs repetition to develop into a more complete
receiver who can. Win in multiple ways but there's no

(28:30):
question that he's got. Speed and he's, long so you
know when receivers start, To get drafted later ian. AS you,
well know i mean you've been doing. This a Long
time you know i'm not telling you. Anything you don't
know it's because there's something about their. Game that needs
work and no ONE comes into the nfl as, A
truly finished player but as you get, later in the,
draft particularly with receivers it's because there. There's something about

(28:55):
them it, could be, one thing, two things three things
but there's something about them that. Clearly need, to work
and well he can run and it's. Clearly a vertical
dimension he needs a lot of work to. Become a
complete receiver, but there's, Something There all right.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Greg coseel joining us let's get to just quickly look
at the other, two teams that matter All, due respect
to Arizona that'll Be The. Rams in san francisco Let's.
Start With, the rams ty simpsons the name, everyone was,
talking about you know where he was drafted and the
fact they didn't add to A Team that's a super.
Bowl contender right away they also took A Tight, End
at ohio state I'll tackle out of. Missouri and so

(29:28):
forth so what'd you Make of? Of, the rams draft
Yeah You know.

Speaker 7 (29:33):
The, Ty simpson pick look i've learned over the YEARS
a speaking. To gms and coaches you never want to
be in a position where you have to draft a quarterback. Because,
of Desperate need now the rams are still a. Very,
good football team obviously could they have drafted someone at
thirteen who you know could step in. And, be a starter. Perhaps,

(29:54):
you never know look there's no guarantee, with first round
picks no matter. WHAT you, know that i mean how
many first round percentage, wise become. You know all pros
how many first round picks even. Become truly contributing starters then.
The percentages are low so you don't know the. Answer
to that question but you Also Don't know when matthew.
Stafford's calling it quits You Don't know. ABOUT matthew, stafford's

(30:15):
health I mean you and i, can remember last Year,
even through late august there was a question as to
whether he'd Be ready. To, play week one obviously he
went on to have the best, season of his career and,
it's Probably you Know a hall, of fame type player
but you just don't know, the answer to that and
you don't. Want to get stuck and you know it's worked.
Out for other teams we Saw What's, happened in Green

(30:36):
Bay first with aaron rodgers who, sat for three Years
And then for jordan. Love who obviously sat so, you
just you know if you if you're in desperate mode,
at the quarterback position it's a very. Bad place To be.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
The the samsrusco forty nine ers traded down twice.

Speaker 8 (30:54):
IN.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
The first round yea they finally Take A. Pick as deshaun.
Stribling we know him he Started his Career at wazoo
and I'm going to Ocom state of. The mississippi big
receiver they Took a couple of they took an, Edge
rusher in height they took the second running back off
the Board. In black from indiana would you Make it
With The with the san francisco forty Nine ers.

Speaker 7 (31:12):
Did what, i've been, telling people you know we're talking
to people these. LAST couple of days i can ONLY
tell you how. I evaluated, THE players you know i
don't GET caught. Up in, i see you know Someone
said all the niners made a bad pickcause They, could have,
gotten stribbling you, know, Fifty, picks later right well how?
DO you, know that, i mean you know that's an.
Easy thing to say anybody can, say something. Like that
you KNOW as soon, AS i hear that i just dismissed.

(31:32):
That AS being moronic But i, really LIKE stribling's tape
And I really like keylon black's Tape, the RUNNER from
indiana and i think he absolutely fits the forty nine ers.
SYSTEM really really well i think he'll end up being,
their backup to McCaffrey and at some point McCaffrey they're
going to sit, him for, two possessions, you know a

(31:53):
game just because of the age and. The Wear and
tear but stribbling is six two plus almost two hundred,
ten pounds a burner an absolute, burner runs by, people
by the way a really, physical dynamic blocker two which
we know how important that is to this forty. Nine
ers run game and it's funny the way he. Was

(32:14):
DEPLOYED at all miss i, Came, away feeling like wow,
There's A lot there but i didn't see him work
the middle of the field in the. Context of THEIR
offense so WHAT i did is i actually went back
and then and watched all his targets from twenty twenty
four When He, was at oklahoma state and he worked
the middle of the. Field really really well so that
just enhanced. My EVALUATION of him and i really really liked.

(32:36):
His tape, A lot so again i don't get caught
up and. Where guys, Get Drafted you know bill watsh
used to talk about this all the time that once,
the draft is over it's irrelevant. Where guys get drafted
either the guy's going to become a good football player
and help your team or. Not help your team the
idea that you could have gotten a guy, at a
different spot. That's just, banter that you know people who

(32:58):
like to think they're smart say you have. No idea
about that you're looking to draft good football players, that help.
Your TEAM you know and i think that's got to be.
The approach to take the, consensus, doesn't MEAN anything.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Well and i, think with with well WE also. Forget
what i forgot actually for. A Couple Of, days with
San francisco they draft stribbling with their first pick to add,
the wide receiver corp which has been AN issue. With
the IUX situation Something else i forgot they. Tend to
Forget That they, added mike evans too so they've upgraded.
Their wide receiver.

Speaker 7 (33:26):
Position they sure haven't and Obviously, they're HOPING rookie piersoll
who i liked a lot coming out and has shown
flashes when he's. Been able to play they're hoping. He
can stay Healthy They, also signed christian kirk so THEY'VE
got a pretty i Think They, still have DeMarcus robinson,
who wherever he. Goes he, catches passes you know he's
never going, to catch seventy balls, but he, catches passes

(33:47):
you know as you well know because HE'S Been in
the nfc, west for, you know a, while so you
know they have a pretty. Deep wide RECEIVER room now.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
What i don't know if you and there's a, zillion
guys out there so if you, didn't watch. Their tape
that's fine and they did Draft two guys, From Washington
out Here Carver willis and. Price hock the cornerback did
you watch tap on either?

Speaker 7 (34:06):
One, of THOSE guys well actually i Watched Both corners
To Cardio davis And Price SOCK and tocario davis i
think went in The, third ROUND to cincinnati and i
liked him A Little. MORE than price sock i think.
He's a little smoother, but they're, both long long athletes
And You, know from richard sherman who was, not a
you know four to three Seven guy that and i'm

(34:26):
not comparing them in terms of what, they're going to
be but length is a big deal, at the corner
position and it can make up for the fact that
if you don't, have great, recovery speed you know with
those with a long. BODY and Long arms i like,
davis a Little more but price sock to me is a.
GOOD prospect as well I Did, not WATCH carver willis
so i, can't speak to him. But, Those two Corners

(34:49):
look cincinnati drafted davis. In the third round third round is.
Not a throwaway pick so he's going to get an
opportunity to, play and we'll see you. Know What HAPPENS
there price sock i think was. A fifth around her
now you start to get into the territory when he's
going to, have a you know he's going to have
to work through the OTA's and mini camp and really show. To,
get an Opportunity.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Yeah no doubt well greg got wraps. It up for.
Us we appreciate it we'll check back. In in the
fall but we love having you on every, week during
the season and frankly all a same thing during the
LEAD Up to the nfl draft and our. Post draft
as well it's just great.

Speaker 9 (35:23):
To have you on and.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Thank, you so much man you got a lot of,
request across the country but we appreciate you. Coming, on with,
US oh you know i.

Speaker 7 (35:32):
LOVE talking, to you i mean, let's hope. We're back you, know, and,
you know look hey the Other good thing is seattle.

Speaker 10 (35:38):
Is a.

Speaker 7 (35:38):
GOOD team you. Know i like talking it's more fun
to talk about the good teams than to talk. About
the bad, teams will, lave me you know and they'll
be a good. Team again, this year you know you
never know. Records and, all that you know no. One
can answer that but you know they're not going to
go FORWARD to thirteen and i.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Can, tell, you THAT hey actually can i, ask you one?
QUICK one REAL fast i got i got about a
minute here in the. Event they sign him there's A
Lot of talk. Aboutante fowler coming here what can you?

Speaker 7 (36:02):
Tell Us about him dante fowler is a PLAYER to
me that i remember Doing, coming OUT of florida and
i thought he'd be a better. Player, than he's been
look he's been in. A lot of places he still has.
Some pass rush ability he's not a. Stiff BY any
means but i think he was the third pick in
the draft when he came, out something, LIKE that you

(36:22):
know i think so he was definitely top five if.
Memory SERVES me correctly and i really LIKED his tape
and i thought he could become a dominant edge. Player
in the league and well He's, been a really look
the guy's going to play twelve. Years in the league
had been far from me, to say, that's not you
know a great. THING to, do that I Mean who
am i i'm just a guy who sits. And watch
HIS tape but but i thought he'd really be a more.

(36:43):
Dominant EDGE pass rusher but i just Remember watching HIM
at florida and i thought he really. Had had, excellent
traits but hey guy's going to play a long. Time,
in the league.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Greg you're the best we will. Talk in the fall.
Thank you, so, Much, all right thanks.

Speaker 7 (36:58):
Ian really appreciate.

Speaker 5 (36:59):
It there you.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Go that is great co sell our last. Scheduled visit
with him he'll be. Back in the fall love having him.
On all the time we'll, take a, quick break Come
back wrap up hour ONE next.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
All right, welcome back. Big thanks great cost let's got a.
Couple of minutes here so a lot of rumors out
there In regards, to the seahawks sale which is imminent
depending on who you want to look at and see.
And all those things different sources reporting The front Off

(38:07):
Of sports saying mark, zuckerberg is out there and then
that's been denied by. Others, Along the way listen i've.
Said this multiple times. This is The Process is Not
Jody allen and bert cold out there trying to sell
a house with. A THIRD party broker the, nfl, is heavily,

(38:31):
involved HEAVILY heavily, involved and i think just from, what
HISTORY tells us the nfl more INVOLVED than say the nba.
Is with brokering deals but, They're both STILL involved like

(38:52):
the nba is going To figure, out the Seattle situation,
in the vegas SITUATION but like when i have to THINK,
that with the nfl they've got a, long list of people,
well maybe not long but a list of people who
are have always been INTERESTED in. Buying an nfl TEAM
the way the, nfl is set up you don't. Need

(39:13):
necessary local, Ownership So you know mark zuckerberg is a.
SEXY name out there i don't know how.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
Sexy, that name is.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
WELL you know what i think that, Structure, a good
point jess because with All the, cutbacks with meta right?
How sexy is it billionaires are billionaires for a reason
AND cutting back and ai and all the things that's
going on in the, tech world right now all we
care about is does It Stay, Status quo. John schneider

(39:44):
mike McDonald's the, way they run things the, way they
operate things how the business Side Has. Worked with CHUCK
arnold that's. All I care about AND, i, TRUST the.
NFL honestly I Try, I trust roger GOODELL, i trust,
the Nfl and frankly if jody has any, SAY in it. Whatsoever, i,
trust her Now Look we had dwight james. On The
other Day jody allen and burt cold are not Popular.

(40:04):
NAMES down in PORTLAND i get, that i understand That
And really especially jody bert WAS more. Of an nba
guy he was involved with THE hiring Of a gm
when paul was, sick the First Time we Replaced Bob.
Wits with john nash but. That wasn't their things PAUL'S.
Thing Was, The nba Paul allen paul g allen's HIS.
Deal was the NBA. He loved the nba he would

(40:26):
go to pre draft. WORKOUTS like, it was i mean
he's the, reason good or bad. And probably not great it.
Wasn't a great pick there, was otherwise guys better but
he's one of The Reasons they took martel Webster Right.
Out of seattle prep. He watched his. Workout it was
massive we were there for. It was massively impressive guy
shot the. Lights out of, it he looked. Athletic just
you know probably, wasn't The best pick, But paul. Was

(40:47):
there seattle guy he Wanted That, you, pick martell webster.
Period end of story so he was REALLY. Involved with.
The nba jody wasn't Jody's more, of A seahawks fan
and i think she will do a better job of
making sure that, whoever does you know. With THE NFL's
work and I believe again the nfl is. Heavily INVOLVED
with this the Nfl Got, rid OF dan snyder the

(41:09):
nfl got rid of What's. His FACE in carolina the nfl.
Knows what it's doing they are. ALL about the shield i,
don't think, we're Gonna you know if, zuckerberg's the right
GUY great.

Speaker 8 (41:20):
Well JUST i mean the nfl can find him the right.
Guy for the league but we're more concerned about the Right, guy.
For THE seahawks Right And i think paul allen, did,
a great job yes giving the right people in the
right positions everything they needed.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
To succeed prior commissioner. Not the current one we had
the worst owner in THE history of the nfl. Here
FOR a while and I Say that because ken barring,
was all of that and a bag, of chips came
In got rid Of Mike, McCormick and Chuck Knox, brought
in tom flores brought in a GUY as this first
gm that was a murder got indebted for murder during.
The summer that, year Oh God yeah and mike platt

(41:55):
so like and then wanted to move the team like
you Could not Have, Like hall, of Famer mike McCormick,
Potential hall of Famer Chuck knocks out tom Floores shouldn't
Be a hall of famer In because. He's a raiders
guy and THEN you hire a gm who is a
player agent who was before even really, served in the
job got indicted for murder. In a business scheme hired

(42:16):
two ex football players to shoot a guy with a
crossbow and put. Him in a trunk. That's Who you
hired Ken Baring. Is, Like Howard, Schultz, Yes Clayton bennett
yes ken barring. Right there with him may, have an advanced,
level might be. Another may have advanage they've done. IT
to us once i don't think they'll do it. DIRTY
to us again i. Think we'll be fine and that's

(42:36):
AS much time as i want To spend on the seahawk, ownership,
situation until guess okay. We'll take a break four nine.
Four to five one is it's coming down text line

at Least I know. Who cassidy hubbarth is oh? Where's
she at Now? IS she on, prime i DON'T. KNOW
she left espn i Think, She's either ON. Prime i'm
or nbc you can. Google that, FOR me BUT yeah i,
MEAN i know Always i. Know Who cassidy is but

(46:04):
clifford can't Wait, for the new yeah she. Has a
good jump she. Has A good jump so i'm, fascinated
more and more and we'll, Talk to you know sarah's
coming up. In a few minutes Just the Comparison Between
felix and randy johnson in Their, time with the mariners
and like depends on what number you. Want To look

(46:26):
at and i'll ask you know what the number for
a pitcher. That we Look at, but, with seattle Only right,
Just with seattle only felix's war for pitchers is. Forty
Nine point nine randy. Johnson's with thirty nine now, maybe
that's a reason maybe. A reason for that randy started

(46:47):
through two hundred and Sixty, Six games with seattle felix four.
Eighteen earn run average felix has the advantage, three four
to two but he's it's it's, like by a minute
like zero. Point one point one. They're basically the same
they both had a three, point Four to two but
felix is a little bit higher or. A little bit
lower when you start keeping when you go past three
point four, two and keep going it's so. It's almost

(47:08):
even there. Felix has more wins do? We, Care about
wins no but it's Remarkable to think about felix Having
more wins because felix didn't get wins the year He
Won The, Damn, cy young right yeah he had a.
Lopsided Win loss, Percentage randy, johnson's higher.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
But.

Speaker 6 (47:26):
AGAIN do we.

Speaker 2 (47:27):
Care i don't know.

Speaker 5 (47:29):
We.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Can Go through shutouts randy johnson Had. Nineteen shutouts with.
Seattle Felix had eleven and i'll ASK it's a, top i,
don't know four nine, four to five one. YOU guys,
tell me i mean in terms Of, Their career with
seattle felix, probably has the advantage depending on again the

(47:51):
numbers you, want to look at if you want to look,
at THEIR overall career which i just. Don't think we're
doing We're. Talking, about In, Seattle right in seattle felix
was just based it on. Just go off. War he was.
Better he was better. Randy was number two but that's
also based on the number, of, games, You played too

(48:13):
right so that's. Probably part of it they are, both,
Great pictures lefty.

Speaker 5 (48:18):
Righty so you.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
HAD that going on. I just know this this is,
the difference for.

Speaker 11 (48:23):
Me just for me.

Speaker 2 (48:26):
Felix didn't. Want to be traded felix. Wanted to be
here fain, brought this up yesterday. Is a great point felix,
cried at the podium thank you. For the contract extension
the entire staff met him outside the press conference room
as he walked in and. Game, a standing ovation felix
to me is More important For the. MARINERS than randy was.

Speaker 3 (48:49):
I would, completely agree with that because it wasn't, by
a little bit.

Speaker 8 (48:53):
Just, A little bit well felix played through an unsuccessful
period of time and was the best picture that we
had seen over His. Longevity with the. Mariners THAT'S my
opinion but i was Not here, for THE randy days
so i. Can RIGHTFULLY ADMIT that but i i was,
at that press conference and it was one hundred and seventy.

(49:14):
Five MILLION dollar contract, if i remember correctly he could
have gotten so much more of em where he.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
Was in his prime he. Didn't want to leave he did,
not want to leave and his family.

Speaker 8 (49:24):
Loves the, CITY too and yeah i think for what
it means To, the fans of seattle i'd Put.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
Him, AHEAD of brandy.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
Yeah i just it's but we're lucky you have had.
Both OF them, here randy i said we. SAW a
BASEBALL here i, JUST i FEEL more i guess i
would say this for just for, JUST for me personally
i feel more Of a connection To felix. AS a
marina fan i feel more Of. A connection to felix
and That's. NO slight on randy i. Just Have and

(49:55):
listen i'm i'm. A very petty individual i'll be the
First to admit that, Junior wanted to leave, Randy Wanted
to leave mark langs, didn't wanted, to leave. ET Cetera
et cetera a rod, left for the money, can't blame, him,
Whatever it's Money right randy or felix. DIDN'T want to

(50:15):
Leave i don't think. Cal Wants to leave josh naylor, wanted,
to stay here right so you gotta go through. The
list of guys julio is. Going to Stay here i'm
a that to me, means more.

Speaker 8 (50:30):
We have.

Speaker 2 (50:32):
Especially in a non salary cap sport, where because if
if if, all things were equal Look At like the
great seahawks teams and they could have paid guys you
know more and fit. Him under, The cap you know sherm.
Left because his contract they could get out of the
contract and he's coming off. With a chille surgery now
he ended. Up playing after, that we understand that but

(50:53):
that just wasn't a good business decision. To keep him
here if they didn't have to, worry about salary cap
they probably would. Kept shu him here they probably would,
Have kept camp well cam had to retire. Because Of
medical reason, maybe, Earl sticks around Right. Earl started becoming
earl although, on a side note Do we love the
earl reclamation project going on right now on social media.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
And, all THE appearances well what i, was GONNA say
Too is.

Speaker 2 (51:16):
I hope earl's good i hope he's all got his
whatever was going on, with him figured out because he's
such an important part of. OUR our city's history i think.

Speaker 8 (51:23):
If he stayed here, and didn't go elsewhere that they
had Some way of containing earl if all the coaches
that were around him at the time, Were, also still
there yeah and nobody. LEFT for other jobs i think
they had just had, a, way with him right and
Maybe that when, Maybe.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
Bobby sticks around, maybe BOBBY sticks around. Maybe kJ six, around,
But it's impossible, right It's, just impossible soar keipley that's.
The difference in baseball if, you can pay guys, you
don't have to you're not restricted by what it's just.
That's an ORGANIZATIONAL decision but but i think they've. COME
a Long way i think, Stanton in this, group let's
be honest, let's give him credit. Come a long way. They're,
keeping guys now Yep they locked, up, julio early on right.

Speaker 7 (52:08):
They got.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
THAT done, We're good i. Mean everson's already done, not,
EVEN up, here right, i mean you know cal. Locked
up and good the pitching things a different one because
you kind of have to be careful when you're going.
To extend those guys you gotta be really careful with arm.
INJURIES and everything. Else i get that but they've done
a good job, of KEEPING guys around, and i just
think like in terms of where, THE organization, is now

(52:29):
I Mean just the josh naylor thing. Was a, great
example keeping, him make a trade, show him the. Culture
keep him here it's. It's but that aside. You can
chime in, Pick your Favorite child felix or randy four?
Nine four or. Five one sweet child. That's what it
is you're, Picking your favorite child like? Who do you
Pick like you, Would, they're both fantastic like it's not a.

(52:50):
SLIGHT on either one i personally feel more Of a connection, to, Felix,
to ME yes randy like i said, in the first
hour worth. The price of, admission when he pitched you like,
to see that big huge man that is six' ten
and when the ball comes out of his, hand on
the left side you feel. Like it was a hitter
it's gonna like. It's, actually touching your face yeah. That
IS incredible to. Watch, and i. Was lucky yeah it

(53:12):
was We had. Back in the kingdom days, they would
when we went like, if you're a media member they
had they have a select few tickets they'll give to media, members,
to go to games right and at. Least they did back? Then,
do they Do it okay our sit i'll never FIT
our seats for ONE o, nine section one o nine Which,
which is in the kingdom which was kind of just

(53:32):
offset from home plate behind Home plate based.

Speaker 3 (53:35):
On fantastic anything that starts with, the one is usually.

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Yeah one o night. Right DOWN right down there and
i Would go A lot of sundays When i was
WORKING at como and, because i, was A poor poor, producer,
And i was, like yeah i'm gonna go AND and
my buddies and i would go and. We'd GO to
the Games and i remember watching. Randy pitch a few,
times it was just incredible. Like watching. It from there.
He was he was delight felix just had, this connection,

(53:57):
with the Fans YOU know the whole felix t. Shirt,
Thing And.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
All That oh king's court.

Speaker 2 (54:02):
KING'S court was so cool. I think YOU were there
i think i said his last was. The last one?
We did what was it they paid. Tribute to him
one night it might have been the last start he.
Had kind of last year we. Thought it might, be
over it, Was incredible but he's yeah it's just. Everything about,
him was emotional so anyway you can pick your favorite
four nine four five one Talkbacks as. WELL on the
iHeartRadio app i think. He's cool All this weekend i'm
sure randy'll. BE in a good mood I did laugh

(54:24):
that soft you tried to. Call him and text him
doesn't know if it's. The right number. Or not hasn't
heard back maybe, he's heard back.

Speaker 8 (54:28):
By NOW but he's not and I would get athletes
and Duff McKagan, hosted IT with kevin collaboro and i
got the. Athletes and ROCK stars together really fun i
had and it was in person and. It was a
live EVENT randy did it because i think he was
throwing out the FIRST pitch one night and i finagled

(54:49):
away to do the show, from The ballpark that night
and randy could not. HAVE been, NICER and cooler i
mean i WAS scared of him because i knew.

Speaker 3 (55:00):
The reputation that he, has.

Speaker 8 (55:02):
He was, just cool, breeze, perfect, smile hair done dressed.
Nice floats through a Room.

Speaker 3 (55:12):
And THAT was the randy that i.

Speaker 8 (55:15):
Met for THE first time and so i would be
intimidated by him if.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
HE wasn't that grumpy mood.

Speaker 5 (55:21):
I do know his.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
Reputation you know.

Speaker 2 (55:22):
What's wild you Know what's Wild is that randy and
junior both have the same passion, Right, NOW after baseball,
photography yeah i know right they both have that same
they have that same thing that they're doing As A
hobby or Path like i know for junior He's got
to shoot the. Masters and some other things and it's

(55:46):
like they've they've had a lot of THINGS going ON.

Speaker 8 (55:50):
In.

Speaker 2 (55:50):
Which i which i love like it's it's kind of
cool to see that connection with those. Two guys along,
the way so, All right let's do, This let's take.

Speaker 6 (55:57):
A break.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
We'll come, Back our guy you know sarahs is going
to dress what a great column in regards to, the
closer situation in baseball the evolution. And the change. Of
closer seattle has one we All Know that, our guy
henris munnios sensational but a lot of teams. Are getting
away from that and is a save really a save
if it's only a couple. Outs in the ninth, inning

(56:18):
we'll Talk about, that get into castillo talk Maybe, A
little Bit about Junior, Are about randy and felix all
that coming up ON. Ninety three point three kterfm it's
time For Our weekly visit With.

Speaker 6 (57:56):
To that in a second.

Speaker 5 (58:00):
MY old man.

Speaker 2 (58:01):
Here is i sitting, Here, i'm thinking To Myself oh
the great roley fingers and, others back in the day so,
some OF the first. Closers but i date myself we
were talking About this earlier and just i'll throw a.
General One at you first randy johnson's getting his number Retired.
This weekend by the mariners will be the second time the.
Number fifty one. Is retired by the way the other
guy was a guy you, Might have heard of. Him

(58:22):
echiro a year ago randy also Wore fifty one. Before
he tiro came here so his the fifty one will
officially be done and.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
Over With.

Speaker 2 (58:29):
After this weekend, randy, johnson when people say hey you
study pitching and it's a different, era and Things Like
that what does randy johnson mean?

Speaker 7 (58:37):
To, THE game of.

Speaker 6 (58:38):
Baseball well i mean one of the things that he.

Speaker 10 (58:43):
Was was a throw forward he was kind of a
guy that presaved the modern, era of tons of strikeouts big,
b low and you know he was one of the
highest strikeout rates of his era and really. The, beginning of,
all that so you know just a really excellent PITCHER with,

(59:08):
just just amazing, i mean, also think about you know
all the angles is coming at you with we're studying
the angles of pitching now and, there's just, all that
sideways you know ferocity coming at you must have been
really terrifying to.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
Face the with with him he, made himself for a
change and he became, A guy, that you know i
mean twenty two years in. The big leagues is remarkable what,
six hundred and eighteen games six hundred, and three starts
in baseball he. Had over three hundred wins let. ME
start with the wins i know it's a stat that
just doesn't mean and we we know That More than

(59:48):
anybody with felix frnandez here and. See all, the wins,
staff but boy you know are we going to get
to other three?

Speaker 7 (59:55):
Hundred?

Speaker 5 (59:55):
Game?

Speaker 2 (59:55):
WINNERS in baseball ever.

Speaker 10 (59:56):
AGAIN i don't think so i Mean, the closest is
justin verlander and. He may not get there and just,
the way we're using guys the the way that we've
shifted so much bulk to the bullpen has just me
meant that more and more wins, are going to the
bullpen and guys aren't having the same length of career.

(01:00:19):
For other reasons as well they're throwing harder and. They're being,
INJURED more OFTEN so YEAH i don't i think i
don't THINK that's going to be i think that's going
to be a number that Is going to always think
and so we're gonna have to look for other numbers,
to judge our, starting pictures and you know the one
number that, maybe PEOPLE can can approach although i don't

(01:00:40):
even know that one. FOUR and seventy five strikeouts i
mean no, in terms of strikeout right. Maybe people can,
touch him but you know doing that for so long
was just really what was so.

Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Impressive about it is amazing the velocities. Thing is interesting,
to me and you know we see all THESE arm
injuries now and i just like we. JUST talked, about
his durability. I mean it was remarkable his, ONLY issues
were back issues i, think for the most part and
maybe along the way. There was an arm issue but
it feels, like For The most part if andy johnson
had an. Injury issue was his back and he's six'.

(01:01:13):
Ten and he can understand. IT he, would touch, high
nineties i think you know. He did get over one
hundred but now we see all these. Guys so on
over on hundred why? Has the velocity changed so much
and what would, maybe look At Your crystal ball what
would randy johnson be throwing? Today with whatever it makes
it what? Whatever guys Are Throwing harder today what could Randy,

(01:01:35):
johnson do in today's.

Speaker 10 (01:01:36):
Baseball yeah it's really weird because he only pitched a
very little. Bit in the pitch tracking era so his
last two years he had a ninety one And. Ninety
mile an, hour fastball, vevo but that was you know when.
He was, forty five years old you know it's like
you can't really extrapolate from that. And know, what he

(01:01:57):
did exactly you. Know THE technology wasn't really there what
i would guess is this. The hardest throwers of our
time the max velocity since. We started tracking it hasn't changed.
Guys are throwing one oh six, it's Been One, Oh
Six forever the roldest, chapman mason. Miller one oh SIX
you know and so what i would guess is the

(01:02:19):
hardest throwers for a really long time have touched. One
oh five one Oh six, i'm NOT suggesting that randy Did,
but i, would guess that randy you know could touch,
ninety eight, ninety nine. And sat you know. Ninety five
that's the big difference what we're seeing today is a
guy who can touch ninety nine sits ninety seven because

(01:02:40):
he gets so much value for his team and in
contracts and everything by sitting ninety seven rather than ninety
five and. What he, does lose in longevity you know
it looks like baseball is. Willing to look the other
Way And, Maybe you had a tommy john we're still
going to. Give you a big contract afterwards and so

(01:03:00):
there is something to that where the, closer you sit
to your maximum the more. Stress you're putting ON your arm,
so that's what i would, guess is, that that he
had you know four ticks, in his arm where you
know he'd sit ninety five that could touch. Ninety nine
when he needed it and that's.

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
BEEN one Of, The biggest Differences i remember washington university
of washington here has a great softball programmer At least,
USED to, before the big ten i think but. They
Got the great softball program daniel lourie when she Was Pitching, Here,
was remarkable pitcher, team CANADA olympics, all that, stuff, and
i remember you know guys. They did stuff with the
media every now and then he go out and, try
To Hit a you, know a daniel lourie pitch right

(01:03:36):
and whatever, the speed is in, fast pitch say, it's
sixty five, whatever it is it translates higher. Right because
the mound Is Closer what do you think randy johnson
did it translate. Too differently because you're six', ten when
he lets that, ball go it's like on you, right
it's probably ninety five for him is probably like. One,

(01:03:57):
hundred and something for somebody else yeah he.

Speaker 10 (01:04:00):
Probably. Had great what we call extension now so the guy,
who has the best extension right now if, you want
to watch it Play Out. One of, the best is
logan gilbert so yep he's, he's kind Of The modern,
you know modern day randy johnson there and so he's he's.
Really releasing the ball close to play that's Totally that's
totally part, of what, what randy, did so well, you know,

(01:04:21):
you know, not for nothing the height. The angles the
the extension it did it did Make, it take a
little time for randy and that sort of part and
parcel of the story that everybody. Knows that it took
about four YEARS and that's that's the One Comp. I
have between him and felix fernandez they both took four
years where they were pretty. Good before they really hit

(01:04:45):
their strides both of them, in their fifth years were
you know just amazing and, and then broke Off. Just
you know A hall Of, fame it turns, out hall
of fame stretch of DOMINANCE.

Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
And and the.

Speaker 10 (01:04:58):
Other thing that i. Thought was funny maybe you notice
this They have the Same career e r a as a.

Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
Mariner, exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
Three.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
THREE four two yeah. It's nuts huh i love that One,
they're Actually, The, Four way Tie Felix Uh Ewa kuma
randy and james paxton big. Maple, from up north of,
the border yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:05:23):
That Makes, sense somehow that, Makes.

Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
Sense george kirby by The Way mariner fans. Is fifth and,
Luis Castillo is Sixth along The way is felix? A?

Speaker 9 (01:05:31):
Hall?

Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Of famer, In your MIND.

Speaker 1 (01:05:34):
Yes.

Speaker 10 (01:05:34):
Yes oh uh i'm sorry. I said it turns out,
he hasn't he hasn't been anointed yet but he got
so close in the votes last year that everybody. WHO'S
hit that level makes it good i just, he's ONE
of like we, were talking, AND i vote. For him
so oh I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Why we have on georgetownson in the case of vote he's. Off,
OF right now on the line well i. Just like we,
Were talking about earlier it's you know randy's an interesting
dynamic because he Was traded here during a Time When
seattle couldn't afford to keep mark langston and then in
The End, they couldn't afford to Keep randy johnson so
he left right and so That's that's how we first.
Came to seattle in the. First place felix never wanted

(01:06:15):
to leave we're, kind, of like pick your favorite? Child
right Like is it Is? It is it felix or.
IT'S randy, and you know it's hard. I mean they
both had. Great careers randy's part of ninety. Five that's
why we still at baseball but it'll be. Fun to
see him Honored. THIS weekend felix IS me personally felix
i just think i have a little, more connection just
because what he meant what he felt about the city
was just. Different Level for today's bond modern athlete but

(01:06:35):
i'm glad to Hear you Think's. GONNA get in, The
hall of fame i. Thought so but that's good to
hear there's a.

Speaker 10 (01:06:40):
There's a Stack called CLUTCH that they keep on fanggrass
and I Was surprised to see this that felix Ornanda's.
Clutch rating was way higher than randy's so maybe there
were some Big games and some, big MOMENTS that felix were, just,
shown and, I just think that like you know randy's

(01:07:01):
career was so long and had, so many other chapters
that you Know you, can't help, even as, a mariner
fan being like oh yeah, from one, of his most iconic,
moments you. Know, came as a diamondback. You know yeah,
that's the hard part so that's yeah that that kind,
of changes that do you every moment every Big moment
did You. Think of for, Felix, have another Marina That's.

Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
Every moment, Yeah including the perfect game you Know Randy
had hit the first No Hunter mariner's history Here Striking,
out mike heith Of the detroit tigers And an epic Saturday,
Night game in seattle at the kingdome and we didn't,
have a lot of those BACK. Then to, be honest,
with the eno. In fact Very few to Be Honest,
but then felds, with the perfect GAME which, was yeah
But all the I Mean what Did. Randy went for
cy young's With, arizona he won, One here in seattle

(01:07:44):
So You're right AND then obviously the world. Series And
Mvp and all That STUFF ino sarahs Joints from the
athletic i, feel Like i'm asking this, every week but
i'm gonna Ask Again? ARE we concerned yet, about luis castile.

Speaker 10 (01:07:57):
I mean every time, every time he turns in another
clunker you got. TO be a little, bit more, concerned i,
did TRY to you know say that and i still
think that there's not real huge indications. THAT he's, that
he's done or Anything i mean there's a stack called sierra,
that's a good estimation Of your. Skill and it's on

(01:08:20):
the era. SCALE he, has a four, thirty eight i
mean that's not great, but it's, not a six, THIRTY
five you know and you know, i know the strikeout
rate has fallen but the strikeout rate Has fallen, for
A lot of the mariners pictures and i. DON'T really
understand what's going on there i tried to look if,
it HAD something to do. With abs and, i couldn't
find anything but you know a real luck stat that

(01:08:42):
people point to his batting averagon balls and, plays three
seventy four, For his career, it's two eighty five so
you know his fastball villa is right in. LINE with
where it was last year i know he started badly
last year and. He Had some bad moments last. Year
so i've been given him TIME if, he needs, like
a fake i else you. KNOW to to go, figure
SOMETHING out i, might do that or i don't know

(01:09:05):
give him a piggyback for, a couple, of outings just.

Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
To LIKE you. KNOW get.

Speaker 10 (01:09:08):
THINGS right but i don't i can't i can't imagine he,
goes from what he, did last year three fifty four
year one hundred. And, EIGHTY innings, TO just being done.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
Yeah i would i mean done.

Speaker 8 (01:09:20):
Is.

Speaker 2 (01:09:21):
I'D be terrifying to Think That yeah I think our
buddy Joe sheen. On, tuesday called it the dodger vacation
uh you don't find a, WAY for a fifteen, day,
you know i. MEAN arm fatigue right that just happens
i mean that's you can't you can't. Walk, like baseball
can't say arm, fatigue well he's a. Picture of course
he's got. Arm Fatigue that happens all the time something.

Speaker 10 (01:09:42):
Hurts's gonna, be something hurting, in there and also like
you know what's Weird. Also is over The time in
seattle he was a sinker change, up guy when he
first came in and then they. Really made him a
fourteen slider guy and his percentage of usage. OF changeup
has gone so far down i just wonder and some of.
THE stuff on, that has fallen, off i just wonder

(01:10:02):
if you know if, you set him on the eye
out could he? Could he, find a change up again
you know that's not about it something that such. A
such a big weapon for Him.

Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
I Think He, goes again on sunday against kansas. CITY
so we'll see what happens there i love the story
this is and one of the things, we've learned with
you over the years in the, last couple of years
having you. On which, is a ton of fun you
know stats are really interesting and there's so many better
stats and better ways to look at. Things now, than
there used to be in, baseball the save. Is a fascinating,
one is it not it's to me a save for

(01:10:32):
a relief pitcher is kind of. Like a home run
for a. Hitter it's just like. It's very sexy it's
what you want you want to. HAVE that, on your
resume you retire i mean we've got a guy And
a Couple of guys in the hall of fame because,
they're saves leaders right all. The time and and things
like that but. The save has evolved quite a bit
we just talked about no one's ever going. To get
to three?

Speaker 7 (01:10:48):
Hundred?

Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
Wins again what is a, save now in today's baseball?
Someone says, what should be a safe you know you've,
got you got to play baseball God you get to Play,
the baseball god and the stack god and you got
to decide? What makes up a? SAVE in baseball what
WOULD it be.

Speaker 10 (01:11:05):
I don't, know that i would change. The definition the.
CURRENT definition of saves it's not bad i would say
the save is more like the pitcher win because it takes,
a whole team to get you there. And it takes,
a defense behind you it's a team a. Stat it's
THE finisher for a, WIN but if i could do
something i might. Increase the VALUE of things like hold

(01:11:29):
one thing i would really love to do. Is give,
wins to relievers more often you know there's a lot
of times where the starter pitched three four innings and
then a reliever comes in and pitches two, innings and
keeps them into the game and the. Starter gets, the
win for some reason you KNOW there's a lot of
times where I look, AT a box score and i

(01:11:49):
say i have no, idea WHY that person got that
win and, i hate the one where you know like
a real believer gives up. The, Tying, run, AND gets
the win right yes yeah I would just fool around.
WITH who i award the win to i would try
to give more credence or just, like make more leader
boards for holds which are kind of like mid game saves.

(01:12:12):
Where YOU keeps the team in it and i think
that the story was about the fact that. We're spreading
saves around so much now we used, to award one
guy the closer role and you Know that, is funny because,
you've got munno's there and you know if if, a
manager was, given, TRUTH to them he'd probably say yeah.

(01:12:33):
I would love, to have one guy but even that
we now don't, do back to back to backs anymore
and we try to avoid back to, backs where we
can because of fatigue and so you. Kind of always
need a backup, closer and then on top of that,
NOW we're doing things where you know, i COULD go
to my backup closer or i could go to that,
one guy who, has really sideways pitches and you know.

(01:12:57):
Next three, batters can't hit sideways pitches you know there's matchups,
play and then on top, of that then there's the
injury part which we've.

Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
We've alluded, to.

Speaker 10 (01:13:05):
A couple of times right now, of the top fifteen
closers coming. In ten are on. THE injured.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
LIST that's an insane number i, Saw I, Mean Names,
that everyone recognizes edwin diaz devin williams is, Got Is,
STRUGGLING with, some other stuff. Daniel palencia i mean all
these guys duran has. Got an oblique strength at o
bleak That's Hits home with us. Here with, MATT brash,
by the way but yeah i mean how about the
fact that one hundred, pitchers have a save already this.
Season twenty nine games in the season that's the most, since, They,
Started KEEPING track of saves.

Speaker 10 (01:13:31):
Right yeah and i think. That's the it's. A lot of.
Things it's the coping it's managers coping, they don't have
their number one guy. So they're just gonna. Spread it,
around It's small markets coping you know, the twins traded
away their entire bullpen so they just they're just trying,
to stay. Keep their head above water you know and
then it's also it's, a little bit like the opener

(01:13:53):
strategy where like if you, don't have a great fifth
starting pitcher then you're gonna you're gonna play some games,
to try, and make that picture. Better you know whoever,
you've got, there, so it's, it's coping it's matchups. Play
it's injuries, it's all of that but you know it
is a little bit LIKE, running back by committee in

(01:14:13):
the nfl where you may just not have. Guys, that
HIT those upper numbers anymore yes the nfl is a
little bit more complicated because, they went, to seventeen games
and like you know so you can get that extra.
Game to get to those big numbers but Still There,
were some workhorse backs like adrian peterson some guys back
in the day. That like just ran all the time

(01:14:35):
and now most teams have like two or three guys
and they mix it, around and they throw a lot more.

Speaker 5 (01:14:40):
And you're just.

Speaker 10 (01:14:41):
Not going to get to those levels and it's complicated because,
in baseball you have an, arbitration system so young, relievers
coming through. If they got, saves, they got, money now
it's like well you know. You got you got like
five saves do we? Give them some money do we
not and what about this other guy who's been amazing
but they've been using as, a five and hasn't gotten
any stays? Shouldn't we give that guy some money so

(01:15:04):
there's some questions here about how we go forward with,
record books, and. WITH like rewarding players you know economically
i think.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
It's a great point because you just, look at, like
like attempts And carries right like like how many it
used to be three hundred or really two HUNDRED and
fifty plus, carries in the nfl was a given and
now last year, only four guys had, three hundred carries
and even you know not. Many had two hundred and fifty.
Plus and it's you're spreading, it around it's probably also sports,
science right like guys like you know you can. Only
do so much or we're limiting we just talked about.

(01:15:33):
THE three, Hundred innings and all that i mean seattle's
in a Unique situation right with with mon with muno's
like they're one of those teams that has a guy
knock on. Wood who's healthy and and does it you
mentioned this, cut LAST week or two weeks ago and
i thought it was, an Interesting dynamic because in our
town anytime, munos has a, rough, outing Or struggles people immediately.
Go well then brash. SHOULD be closing brash should be
closing i Think you were the one that said. Brash

(01:15:55):
doesn't really? Have quote closer stuff is that, right?

Speaker 8 (01:15:59):
He?

Speaker 7 (01:15:59):
Does?

Speaker 10 (01:16:00):
Have A closed strikeout right yeah yeah what like?

Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
HOW important, is that for a closer.

Speaker 10 (01:16:06):
I mean every, ball and play is a lottery ticket
and the batting average on, the ball, and PLAY is
you know Three, hundreds like i was saying for. Castillo
the batting average on a Strikeout, we, all know that number.

Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
Is yeah yeah that's but that's because it's so like
you are looking, for and the manager, comes into play
as you just said like if you don't have your
guy ready or you don't want to use them three,
straight days or two whatever it, is, then you're looking
through and saying. Okay it's all matchup at that point. That's,
probably a ton of managerial.

Speaker 10 (01:16:33):
Decisions yeah But we We just Had adam on avino
on rais and, barrels today talking about this the story, and,
he brought, up the fact that like you, know when
you get to the postseason you almost want every one, of,
your relievers to be closer level right. Like every the
game's on the line if, you want everybody as, good as,
possible and so he Thought you know it, could it

(01:16:55):
may he even said this It may cost you, a
game in april to do this but you should try
people out like it is actually better to have people try.
The night and to get up saved and so It
would be Probably better for The, mariners and, for munos
And for brash you Know and for october possibly to

(01:17:16):
give brash, a, shot just, one say. Or something backup,
back up, closer situation munos has pitched you know, two
or three. Days out, of four whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
You know so you you just you.

Speaker 10 (01:17:27):
You kind of give them That. Experience you get them
ready for october you you and you, and the other
part what. You're, saying you keep The fatigue away yeah
you don't use muno's for like seventy five innings to
get him to the postseason and then use. Them for
another fifteen in the postseason. I'm A Little bit Worried,
about that with louis varland in toronto he's pitched ninety
innings last year and he's one of. The highest used

(01:17:51):
pitchers again this year now, he just got the closer
role there maybe.

Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
They will.

Speaker 10 (01:17:55):
Be more careful, with him going forward. But You know
those innings, add up jessin marsha once told me if you,
get over eighty innings Of the reliever you are tie or.

Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
I'm going to read a quick paragraph Before we. Wrap
things up to for, mariner Fans. This is from you
know story one mechanism, to judge relievers could be leverage
index which is a stat that judges how important the
current game situation is to the team bases a lower
than the seventh that can be as important, to, the,
win as, A, clean one, two three ninth inning, oh
seventh inning going to your knock going, to your closer
that hits? Home Here you KNOW that hits home EDWARD ardo, that,

(01:18:30):
I read that AND i went okay i didn't that's.
I didn't need to relive that again but that's the
thing like do you use your closer in?

Speaker 7 (01:18:35):
The?

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Seventh or eighth inning? These days right and is?

Speaker 8 (01:18:38):
He?

Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
Then is he still a closer.

Speaker 10 (01:18:41):
Yeah and there's some, there's some, leaders on this on
this you know when it comes to, who comes in
and the biggest moments there's some leaders on here. That
Aren't closers, From, around the, league and matt brash uh
You know is actually really close to timuno if he's
been In, almost equally as, difficult situations as munia so.

(01:19:02):
Equally difficult Equally, important to the win but there yeah
there's some guys, who Are The firemen For Their, teams
like adrian morojane, in san diego who has you know
he Has A, higher leverage in nick than mason miller
who's COME in and, he's done. Some easy easypz one
two Three Innings is, It.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
Always easy for mason miller though like WHEN you, just
come IN through one o five. That's just i think
it's just easy doesn't matter if it was the first
inning or the tenth, inning or the ninth inning in between.
It seems, like it's easy for him tell listen You,
want to get smarter baseball Fans. Rea you know stuff
at The athletic Also tell them about the. Race, and
barrels podcast you Guys Do.

Speaker 10 (01:19:41):
Yeah TODAY we, had on Adam Navia like i said we,
have Jed lowry As a regular guest and mondays and,
fridays a little bit more fantasy oriented but we're a
daily podcast that says to just do deep breakdowns and
GET the player perspective as well as. I kind of
represent the, nerd, perspective i guess we kind of uh we.

(01:20:01):
Kind of play around with That dynamic, sometimes, we do
breakdowns where i'm like oh, this is how, we should, pitch,
Him and you know they say well trevor. Says that
you can't pitch, like? That what Are you talking, about nerd,
we have we have fun you know. Hitting baseball from
all the different eggs we.

Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Have a couple of baseball nerds and a. Couple of
football nerds on OUR show we, Embrace all nerds because
i you know. I'm not smart enough to be one.
So that's, why. We love having you thank you. Sir we'll,

the seattle kraken with the infernets.

Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Uh it is daily Power play on your home for
THE KRACKING ninety Three Point three kJ R f M
jadarian price by the way news commerce. Coming up the
Top of the hour the see how kracking announced the
day along With Kind, of a, joint announcement with jessica
campbell assistant coach that she is not. Returning to the team,
FOR this season, for the next season i should say

(01:21:55):
she's going TO pursue some, other opportunities in the nhl.
And uh we'll, see where that goes but. You, know
a couple Of things here one.

Speaker 1 (01:22:04):
She.

Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
Joined the kraken in twenty twenty four she was the
first FULL, time FEMALE assistant coach in the nhl and i.
Think that's an important thing to acknowledge incredible. For her to.
Get TO that point she earned it and i think
that's also important. To note she worked her, way up
you look at, her bio working, as a skating coach

(01:22:26):
power skating COACH skills, coach with, a number of nhl
players Working Overseas coaching overseas and then in coachella valley
for A Couple. Of years with former Coach Dan Bilesman,
They went to the Caulder Cup Finals league championship of
the caulder cup finals for a couple. Of years and
She's coaching down there got Promoted when bilsman got. The
job in july twenty twenty, four he got Fired after

(01:22:48):
the year. But they kept, jessica on last. Season her
role changed it did evolve it Definitely Wasn't the same
this year Under Lane. Lambert as it was under dan
bilsma she did a, lot of work though.

Speaker 6 (01:22:58):
Off after.

Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Practice after skates with players younger players i'm Sure If
you know, we Talked To berkeley caton right now or,
ryan winterton or any of those guys they would tell
you that she was. Instrumental in their development this past Season,
but whereas a year ago with. Bilesma she was running
the power play if they were drying up a play,
into the game with a you know a six, on

(01:23:20):
five situation or what have you. Then she was the
One Doing, that this, year that was chris taylor and
frankly the Power play was better this year Under chris
than it was under jes although it did slump a little,
bit AT the end, of the season but i just
listen the organization sometimes takes a few hits because of.
Everything THEY do besides winning hockey games and i think

(01:23:42):
there's some that will say that things like having a
female assistant coach or common thread nights and things like
that are. MORE important to the organization than winning i
would counter with their really important things to have as
part of the organization and, What your goals are for
an organization. Winning, IS still the most important thing okay

(01:24:04):
i don't.

Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
Think, anyone in that organization would disagree.

Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
Yeah it's so when people say all they care about
is having a female, assistant, coach, or, doing a. Common
threat no no no no no but the thing that
is good about this organization is if there is a female,
or someone. THAT doesn't look like Me white male i
don't know, if i'm, still middle aged. Or not probably
not probably past that but if there's, someone that is

(01:24:30):
deserving of, a job they don't look. At Color gender or,
anything like that and jess was certainly certainly. Capable and
certainly deserving of that job and now she'll get a
chance to go somewhere else and probably have an opportunity
to do a little bit more behind a bench WITH, another.
TEAM somewhere else in the nhl hopefully i and, Know,
a lot of people are saying ah SHE. Needs to
go coach in the pbhl i'm sure any team would HIRE.

(01:24:52):
Her in a SECOND in. The pbhl she's been. An
nhl coach that's IMPORTANT to, note she has been an
nhl coach and. That's what she will. Probably stay doing
so good for her congratulations On, a nice little tenure,
here in seattle and also more importantly telling and showing
young girls that. There's a place for, them in, hockey

(01:25:12):
whether it's. Men hockey women's hockey it doesn't matter. There's
A place for them in hockey, and jessica WAS able
to do that and so i kind of felt. Like
this was coming her final interview we rotate the assistant
COACHES for between period Interviews, on our tv broadcast with
the kraken and she Did, the FINAL game and TALKED
to piper and i kind of i remember, looking over

(01:25:34):
and saying something. To this this feels like a goodbye.
SO maybe she's known for a while i don't think
this was necessarily part of, The quote audit Or anything
like that but thanks to Jessica. For what she, did
here In seattle more than anything thanks to jessica for
showing the, way for young, people that aren't dudes for
young girls and showing them that. There's a place for
them in hockey. There's a place for, everybody in hockey
least there should, BE and, that's not always the case

(01:25:55):
i think but this organization is doing. Its, best to,
get to that point okay nh else we got. A
couple a, couple of elimination games fanders was here he'd
be all happy and cheering because he doesn't like. Him
So He, does not like. Himself the edmonton oilers and.
They are they are in dire Straits. They are, facing Elimination.

Speaker 3 (01:26:13):
Tonight in anaheim all right go ducks the only, TIME
we say that. ON the show i.

Speaker 2 (01:26:18):

Like watching greatness and i. Like WATCHING connor McDavid In
The Playoffs, and i don't Like. Joe kwon boltha coach of.

Speaker 3 (01:26:29):
The, ducks, So to each their own.

Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
Also tonight minnesota Could Close. Out their Series against The
dallas stars that's What. I'm NOT i'm rooting for The
stars because i hope, we get sevy on at some
point but his team might be knocked out and then. You,
know what we'll say to him then you guys only
played six more. GAMES in the crack in the playoffs.
I don't know what you're talking about you only had,
six more playoff games in the crack and you you want. To,

(01:26:52):
talk all that kind of, stuff oh trust me just
in case because we'll get him on at some point.
In the, sand cupleayffes because. Hes entertaining but yeah there you,
are So two teams Facing, elimination tonight the stars and
the oilers and they're, both on the road for. Those
games so it should. BE fun Stars game tonight is

Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
THERE isn't just get me a.

Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
MINUTE i will give you a. MINUTE i will give,
you A minute i didn't mention this and. I was
going to in the headlines the story, coming out from
the world of golf and, EVEN if you're not a
golf fan i think it's an. Interesting dynamic because Of
What it involves we got the world cup coming here
this year on G has Heard Farhanology. On today from

(01:30:02):
tsm with greg bell The contingent. From iran WAS stopped
in toronto before there's a FIFA meeting kind Of like
a global fifa meeting. In Vancouver taking place today and Tomorrow,
the iranians they were stopped, in toronto not allowed to
come there. AND there's all kinds of things GOING i

(01:30:23):
don't think this calls but fifa has been accused, of
what we call sports washing, before which, is basically, use
sports events sports teams et cetera. To, distract from basically
human rights abuses well that just is the definition of
what the live golf tour is and to think anything
different is. Is just kind of naive. And dumb they

(01:30:47):
have been BASICALLY live the rival tour from The Pga
Has Been Getting, funded by saudi ARABIA'S. Public investment fund
which is the pif they're, taking that money away, after
this year so, it's going away not gonna happen anymore

(01:31:07):
no more Funding For, sportswa washing tour called the live
tour which included some of the best PLAYERS In the
game that. Left the pga Tour four years ago it,
launched in June of twenty Twenty, Two Big, Names Bryce,
And D, schambeau phil micholson bubba watson cam. SMITH who's,

(01:31:29):
coming off a major win i mean a lot of these,
guys had had Left To go there And Really, all
live golf was was saudi, arabia which is just known for.
Absolute highly highly unethical humans Rights Transgressions it was Sportswa
washing by SAUDI arabia and the saudis and the pif

(01:31:51):
and these guys left to go do this and join
this PARTICULAR. Golf, tour RIVAL tour for the pga. Now
the pga is far from perfect they got issues and
they've actually, changed some of. Those issues as well which
is good but there, are, some out there that are
saying well now you've. Got to welcome all these guys
back you got, To put them back on the tour you.

(01:32:12):
Got to have them.

Speaker 6 (01:32:12):
Ready to go.

Speaker 7 (01:32:15):
That ain't the.

Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
Case all those spots have. Been Taken those spots have
been taken. Brooks kopka found, out the hard way he's.
Back on but on a limited. Role he's not in
every signature, event He's not in all the events and
brooks had to. Take a couple penalties along the way
so these. Other guys want to come back in THEY Made.
The decision to leave. The pga tour they Made the decision,

(01:32:37):
but the dumbest thing, i've heard today which isn't a
shock it's a second TIME this. Week, we go down
the espn road. No it's THE first time this week
i'm SORRY i. Had my sports confession WAS espn earlier, But,
the dumbest thing i heard today? Yeah do you have
our dumbest open my favorite one fire.

Speaker 1 (01:32:51):
Away study In fornest show Probably presents ignorance that, ed's
finest until softie hits the air a special part of your.
Day where intelligence takes, the segment off.

Speaker 5 (01:33:07):
If it sounds.

Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
Stupid it probably is ladies and gentlemen the dumbest thing.
Y'll here TODAY a real no brainer.

Speaker 12 (01:33:18):
If, the pga decides to punish these golfers. We should
be all excused my language We should stay.

Speaker 13 (01:33:26):
In their ass like white on. Rice they should not.
Be punishing anybody it.

Speaker 12 (01:33:32):
Was their negligence it was their abuse it was their
taking golfers FOR granted that forced.

Speaker 13 (01:33:39):
The existence of live to begin with THE.

Speaker 12 (01:33:42):
Players didn't want to leave the pga they were forced
to because they were looking for better opportunities because of.

Speaker 13 (01:33:48):
The manner in which they were TREATED and we know this.

Speaker 12 (01:33:52):
BECAUSE the pga stepped, In Afterwards, once liv came, into
existence mike wilbond if you remember and they expressed the
willingness to make these modifications because they knew. That you
had done the players wrong you wouldn't have felt the
need to alternate for alternative measures and to modify your
approach if you. Thought you were doing the right thing you.

(01:34:13):
Knew you were doing the wrong thing you, knew you
were taking them for. Granted and that's what forced Their hand.
NOW we have to understand live invested i believe IT
was like six Billion, dollars if i remember correctly will
bond and it was reported losses of about one point
four billion over.

Speaker 13 (01:34:27):
The first three and a half years, and then when
you look at this it. Says here golf. Highlights stuff
like that, they.

Speaker 12 (01:34:33):
Were strong live was strong digitally but in terms of
linear television their AUDIENCES were roughly seventeen times smaller than pga.
Tour events during, head to head weekends So, we understand
at LEAST. They in america It's, about the pga it ain't.
About live and the players knew that, but at the

(01:34:53):
end of the day this is how you're making a
living and all they wanted was to be treated better
based on the REVENUE, that they WERE generating for the
pga and the pga stuck their nose up, like the
arrogant people that. They were and they mistreated these guys
so if now that THIS is going away supposedly and
these pga players or these players who live are, GOING

(01:35:15):
to be looking to come back i. Don't want to hear,
anything about punishment they, should BE embraced they should be
accepted and pga should learn from this and treat them more,
fairly than They did in the past. Which forced live's,
existence To Begin with if, they don't as kendrick perkins would.

Speaker 13 (01:35:32):
Say we should, be in their.

Speaker 12 (01:35:34):
Ass like back pockets plain and simple they don't need.
To be doing, that to these guys leave them alone.

Speaker 2 (01:35:39):
Let them come back and let's enjoy let's let's. Let's LET'S. Just,
kind of break down stephen a smith the players that
left left for a rival TOUR To try to take
down the pga tour and now THEY Want. To come back.
To the pga tours there's multip reports THESE guys are
all like now, call pg saying let us Back In

(01:36:01):
like like you did for brooks. Kap because is the
only smart one he saw it coming a. Year ago
and got ahead of it but he's had to. Pay,
the penalties and. Pay the price, yeah these guys, left
first of all take. The money take take the sports.
Washing aside from it for a second THE Greatest thing
about golf in the. Pga TOUR is you're paid for
performance and i would just ask what's easier to get

(01:36:25):
guaranteed money and play a fifty four to le whole
event over three days where you know you're getting paid
art you're still inner contract By, getting paid big money by,
the saudis or go out and compete try to make
a cut. And try to, win god, from it even
a moon a major but a signature event if you can.
Get into those which are more money and that's the only.
Good thing that came, OUT Of this like he, was

(01:36:46):
right pga tour wasn't mistreating players but they've done a
better job with the players now and they're getting. Guys
more opportunities to make. More money that's. That is a
truism that's a truism but, to say, that these guys,
were mistreated come on first of all you make the
choice to. Be on the tour as, a golfer you know.
What it is you're, trying to win you. Are paid

(01:37:06):
for paid. For Your Performance as. Simple as, that the
live tour wasn't but yeah they're. Going to be penalized.
To come back and here's the problem all those spots
have been taken by guys that Work Their, way up
through the corn ferry, Tour Which IS the minor league
tour qualifying, school q school and all those things or
win an event here and there and became. Part of

(01:37:26):
the part, of the membership those spots are gone.

Speaker 8 (01:37:31):
It.

Speaker 2 (01:37:31):
Would be and THAT Not. Just HERE It's Not just
pga tour the, dpu european tour has, The same thing
same thing those. Guys those spots have all been taken
there's two, major tours here and overseas as well and
they were both Trying To be taken down by the
live so for someone to say that. They, SHOULD be,
WELCOME back and embraced Really I mean i want. TO
watch john ron Play every week i want to watch

(01:37:52):
bryce and. Play every week as a golf fan but
you went out And. Took basically blood money from the.
Sadi's you took a. Lot of money that's what you did.
That that's not even up for debate and now you want,
to walk. Back in, with No ramifications no repercussions good luck.

Speaker 6 (01:38:12):
Stem.

Speaker 2 (01:38:12):
A s fists got a hard job, he's got. To
TALK about all sports all teams well i shouldn't say
that doesn't talk about all, sports and doesn't talk about
all teams but he's got to talk about a lot.
Of sports and a lot of. TEAMS national stuff is
hard to do, i have, JUST you produced national shows
you know i have never ever and a lot of guys.
In our business. Do like, weekend shows lun does. It

(01:38:33):
you know he's good at. IT he does a really
good job a lot of guys in our business. Dow
weekend shows and do other things i've. NEVER had a
DESIRE to do. THAT i just because i Don't, CARE
i don't care about The, METS i don't care About The.
YANKS i don't care about Chicago Cubs. I don't care
about the houston. Texans i care about our. TEAMS here so.
It's a hard job i get that but trying to
take Like basically taken the side of the saudi's and
and the live players for TRYING to, destroy and take

(01:38:55):
down the pga tour, Which Is. Our tour, in this,
country north america stop, it Stop, it even by, your standard. Stephen,
a that's, that's dumb absolutely moronic. Anyway four nine four to.

(01:40:42):
Picture i didn asked the? Better picture just who's who's?
Your favorite like who's your favorite child. Rendy wanted to
leave is revisionist History reddy wanted to leave because. The, plank, front,
office wouldn't extend him okay listen understandable. AND everyone wanted
to leave this organization. I get that YOU want your

(01:41:03):

Felix forever Says, the four two five he was seattle.
He was the king of the. City he chose, us

Uh and I'll Read the whole thing, imagine imagine randy
johnson in today's era, with, more knowledge, and technology, for
technique diet. Physical therapy and Training he'd be, untouchable so we,
asked io about that and, he said and this guy
studies this. That's all he that's what he does he

(01:42:58):
Said that we don't really know what randy was throwing
and all the thing because we. DIDN'T have the, data
WE have, today, i like that so i ca YEAH
he could have been throwing even i mean they had
jugs GUNS behind home plate kind, of a i mean
by today's standards dinosaur like and. Spin rate and, all

(01:43:21):
those different, things the Big thing like you know said
with randy that made him crazy great was, with arm
angles changing all the time and, as tall and long as.
He is the ball just on you like, it's one
thing if you're, throwing hard but if you're that tall.
IT'S kind of like we made that i made. The
d and He Liked the comparison made prout about daniel,
laurie when she's pitching that you dub which. Is most

(01:43:41):
dominant pitcher. In college softball, ball's COMING in fast but
it says and i might be wrong on let's just
say for. Argument sake, of seventy miles an. Hour, you
go that's not that fast yeah when, it's from.

it she, wanted to, hit two, and and. Yeah it
was it was. It was it was a classic comment

pick number eight because that was one of the numbers
available or is there?

Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
Some significance to that number for you.

Speaker 8 (01:52:36):
It was.

Speaker 17 (01:52:37):
Multiple, FACTORS one of the numbers, available also, i wanted
a little change you, know a new chapter of MY
life having done single digits, since i was like.

Speaker 11 (01:52:45):
A little league so a new. Change i thought it
would be nice at.

What point did everything start?

Speaker 7 (01:52:51):
Sending?

Speaker 17 (01:52:51):
In for you after last WEEK uh the, type of
the PERSON i am, like as soon, As i, You,
know something good happens, I'm like okay ON to the
next like how can? I get better from this going
on so it didn't synk in until LIKE a couple
of days after after i had, the draft Parties and
all that stuff and when I'm really sitting down meeting
with coach, hammonton Going over, the, playbook and stuff and

(01:53:12):
i'm like Okay it's a real deal now.

Speaker 5 (01:53:15):
Playing like why did you? SMILE when you heard him
say that i mean that.

Speaker 7 (01:53:19):
Sounds, KIND of, like your a philosophy yeah i know
it's just.

Speaker 11 (01:53:23):
It's just like this is a this is such a great,
time of, year with with new faces.

Speaker 18 (01:53:28):
Draft picks you rookie camp this week there's a lot of,
excitement with the with the new team and this is.

Speaker 11 (01:53:35):
Really what what kicks it all off the.

Speaker 19 (01:53:37):
OPPORTUNITY, here, obviously just dreaming in The Nfl right, but
to join the super bowl champs the team that loves
then How.

Speaker 7 (01:53:42):
Special, This specific opportunity here.

Speaker 17 (01:53:44):
To seattle yeah I'm just blessed to be here in,
seattle and, part of a, winning program winning culture and
you know just coming into a locker room, and being,
able to compete and uh You Know coming from a
culture like notre dame and you being TAUGHT so many
things and the HABITS i, Created they'll translate. To this nfl,

(01:54:05):
Level so That'll help but you know i'm just i'm
just BLESSED to. Be in this Position That I, am john.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
Joked about jadarion Price Day But there Actually, is a jadarion?
Price day?

Speaker 8 (01:54:13):
And?

Speaker 4 (01:54:13):
Dennison is that right that's? True january how did that
come about did you expect?

Speaker 14 (01:54:19):
To?

Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
Have a day named after yourself yes.

Speaker 17 (01:54:22):
So so the mayor of my town he called me, like,
a week before and he's like hey we're trying to
figure out when we're Gonna Get you, A day for
YOU and i'm like, I don't think i need. A
day like it's not, that, serious but everyone was. All, like,
nah you need a Day so uh it. WAS a
random tuesday During combine prep i drove down from dallas
down to my hometown and they did. The little ceremony

(01:54:43):
and IT was cool took some.

Speaker 11 (01:54:44):
Pictures and i. Got a little plaque so that's nice.

Speaker 7 (01:54:49):
Like year over year.

Speaker 16 (01:54:50):
Seeing rookie classes kind of these early days kind of
form whatever bond.

Speaker 5 (01:54:53):
They're, going to form and.

Speaker 18 (01:54:55):
Kind together yeah that's a great point we had. Such a,
great rookie class last year you know it's on, record
for really how the you know one of. The catalysts
for the team coming together so to, start That process over.
Again and uh just i'm just fire, i'm fire.

Speaker 11 (01:55:11):
Up to meet the guys.

Speaker 18 (01:55:12):
You know see how they get along but it's gonna
take on. Like a NEW life form of itself and
so i think one of the things that we do
here that's kind of cool. Is we, we we don't,
Force it you know we let them we give us
a mayor to breathe sort of to figure out their
own journey and how, that messes with the vets and
uh that's, why we.

Speaker 11 (01:55:29):
Go through the whole process you know so but that's
that's what makes us so exciting.

Speaker 18 (01:55:34):
Because you don't know what's gonna happen you, don't know
how it's gonna come together but somehow it'll.

Speaker 2 (01:55:38):
It'll come Together one Way?

Speaker 11 (01:55:39):
Or, another what is dennis in texas like?

Speaker 7 (01:55:41):
What was it like growing up there and how?

Speaker 5 (01:55:43):
Do, You feel like its shaped.

Speaker 11 (01:55:44):
You yeah dennison is very you know.

Speaker 17 (01:55:47):
It's a it's a big, football town not many people
know this but it's The Longest running rivalry between our
rivals sermon Texas.

Speaker 11 (01:55:55):
And all, of the state of texas so yeah just.

Speaker 17 (01:55:59):
Being A part of that program and and i don't
know how, much you know about high school football but
they put, a lot, of money and effort into you.
Know GETTING guys to the next level, so i had a,
great support system have a huge family extended family and
friends and coaches who you know SUPPORTED me and.

Speaker 11 (01:56:15):
Got me to where i am today.

Speaker 16 (01:56:17):
What was your like when you had then achilles injury
and kind of, had TO miss a lot of that
and i guess How, did you kind Of.

Speaker 17 (01:56:21):
Go fromm yeah early ENROLLED to notre dame and that
spring i had a great uh spring ball was, was
battling for THE starting job actually and then unfortunately i
tore my achilles that summer and OTAs and just had
to figure out to. Find a, new passion OUTSIDE of
football you know even though i wasn't in the in,
the UH on the field as much. AND i just,

(01:56:45):
started lifting ways more, i got bigger TORN up my
frame and then once i. Got on, the field and
got healthy you know haven't come back.

Speaker 20 (01:56:52):
Since you mentioned The Zoom call that you had with
thomas hammock and, what specifically stood out from that interview
how you guys were able to conduct her to hit
off and how much.

Speaker 4 (01:57:03):
Of, the fact that he coached against you how much
did that help in that standpoint. Because he has an
extra special.

Speaker 2 (01:57:10):
UH he, Didn't stop, letting them, know i mean, we're like,
all right we get it, you guys you.

Speaker 5 (01:57:16):
Guys. Beat, the day we.

Speaker 17 (01:57:17):
Get it yeah yeah on That point all all three
times that i've met with with coach he is he
has mentioned that that game AND he hits me, WITH
the if i was coaching you i would have and you,
ran THE ball a little bit.

Speaker 11 (01:57:30):
More maybe i would have beat.

Speaker 17 (01:57:31):
Us so but that's in, the past. You live, and
you learn you know but no He's a he's a
great coach. And i'm excited to play for.

Speaker 4 (01:57:38):
Him what inspiration you get from.

Speaker 5 (01:57:42):
My, MOM and then get two sisters.

Speaker 6 (01:57:45):
Yeah i get a lot.

Speaker 17 (01:57:45):
A lot, of support from my mom you know single
mother most of her life and. Raised, three kids at
a young age OBVIOUSLY she she overcame, breast CANCER when
i was pretty young so i had to mature. And
take care of my younger, sisters but, watching her, go
through that the chemotherapy, ALL that and AND still overcoming that,

(01:58:06):
i feel like i, can Overcome anything, Like you mentioned
earlier the achilles injury like there's NOTHING that can. Set me,
back that i can't overcome you know what's what's?

Speaker 16 (01:58:13):
The last week been like for you just kind, of
settling into what's next for you kind, of having people
reach out to you anyone in particular reach out of
notes that you kind of got took taken back.

Speaker 5 (01:58:23):
By, any teammates or anything.

Speaker 8 (01:58:25):
Like that.

Speaker 2 (01:58:27):
Yeah it was really.

Speaker 17 (01:58:29):
Nice hearing, FROM some of the teammates you know i
know some of these guys got so much going on
and they got their, own off season program to worry
about but to reach, out to me, and and you
know with open arms, Like got Any Questions THINGS like
that guys like cooper cup, i think, OF off the bat.
Like you know i really appreciate, that and, That just
goes to show you, know i'm coming. Into A you,

(01:58:50):
know a winning culture so i'm.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
Excited hope you guys that want to prove themselves.

Speaker 7 (01:58:55):
And they want to make an impression but what do
You Want?

Speaker 8 (01:58:57):
Them to?

Speaker 5 (01:58:58):
Take, out of, rookie may what's.

Speaker 18 (01:59:00):
REASON well it's uh it's multi fascinated i mean with
the guys that, we know they are. Gonna be here
we definitely wanted to it's an introduction To, how we
do things here in seattle and such a great opportunity
to see some of these. Some of the, trial guys,
as well and we've there you know we have, a
pretty good history of you know to find some of the.

Speaker 11 (01:59:18):
Some of the some of these players and, when you talk, about.

Speaker 18 (01:59:21):
Being you know seventy you know, ninety one hundred and
five people deep, like that's, it's going to be needed
you know whether whether we want them to stick, with
us right now or you, know being the bullpen so
to speak where that they're. One OF the first guys
we Call So i think of guys like jamie sheriff
and you. Know that, are still with us now so.
Yeah it's, this is a great weekend you.

Speaker 8 (01:59:42):
Know.

Speaker 11 (01:59:42):
He's, finally back on the grass uh yeah there's a
lot a lot of THINGS to. Be fired up for
your x.

Speaker 5 (01:59:49):
COACH outside zone is your love language i think we
maybe wishes for you. They would have run? More not today?
What about outside zone do you like?

Speaker 8 (01:59:57):
What?

Speaker 5 (01:59:57):
WHAT it fits to your house.

Speaker 17 (02:00:00):
Yeah i like the, options that, gives me as a
runner you know just being able to stretch, the defense
and puncture as they say and just allow the linemen to.

Speaker 11 (02:00:10):
Do what they do and get up to. THE second
level and the double teams.

Speaker 17 (02:00:13):
I Really like to see it develop and i'm pretty
good AT keeping my my shoulders square once. I GET
to the line of scrimmage, so i love all the run,
plays but, it Just Happens to be you know at
notre dame and we did a lot of a little
mixture of mid zone and OUTSIDE zone and.

Speaker 11 (02:00:28):
That just Was what i was pretty good at so
did you have to?

Speaker 5 (02:00:32):
Project him into your outside so system where? Did you
see enough to notre dame AND you, SEE that pit.

Speaker 18 (02:00:40):
You see I mean i don't know you just i'm seeing,
him run a lot Of different runs but you're not
really i'm not looking at it through the LENS of
like he's run this scheme x. Amount of times or
anything like, that you, just you, see the. Movement you,
know the person the competitor you. Know that's, where our
coaches talked about, so.

Speaker 15 (02:00:59):
Yeah when you talk about, PUNK when he talks about
puncturing it i mean, you could, you could tell you
know the patience, you can tell him like you know
staying on.

Speaker 11 (02:01:08):
Track and, then his cut back abilities you know.

Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
My opinion was.

Speaker 11 (02:01:14):
Like clearly the best in the.

Speaker 2 (02:01:15):
Draft how do you just your hold writing back for
SEMs that you got Some different Styles there with him
and gari and emmanuel maybe being.

Speaker 4 (02:01:23):
A bigger guy and stuff like that how do you
just kind?

Speaker 5 (02:01:24):
Of, assess that, whole group right now.

Speaker 15 (02:01:26):
Yeah we're excited we're excited about it it's a it's a.
It's A cool group to, work with and thomas is
you know, excited to be working With these guys and. We're,
glad that thomas is with us well you got some.

Speaker 19 (02:01:36):
Time to decide that rookie talent show any talents you
want to let us.

Speaker 4 (02:01:42):
Know might be coming, Down the pipe.

Speaker 11 (02:01:45):
In my free time. I'LL be thinking about things, and practice.

Speaker 2 (02:01:49):
I like that you said like you're in one, OF your,
AS soon as.

Speaker 11 (02:01:53):
YOU'RE like i mean i.

Speaker 2 (02:01:54):
Like, MUSIC i JUST can't.

Speaker 5 (02:01:56):
Play.

Speaker 2 (02:01:56):
MUSIC yeah i wish i could yeah.

Speaker 11 (02:02:00):
I actually took a. Couple of. Music classes that never
dame but.

Speaker 17 (02:02:04):
Jdarn what are some of the the habits you alluded
to earlier That You said you built up at notre
dame that you think WILL.

Speaker 11 (02:02:08):
Help you have success in the.

Speaker 17 (02:02:10):
Nfl just, Carrying yourself as a professional, you know I'm
Not in college anymore. But at notre dame, you had
to you had a rigorous, like athletics schedule but also
academic schedule so, you always had to be, on time
take care of your stuff. BUT also taking care of
your body i really learned my body and how to
take care of. My body, outside of facility as well.

(02:02:31):
So yeah just carrying those habits over at.

Speaker 4 (02:02:33):
What point did you like develop a routine that you
feel comfortable with in terms of. THE taking CARE of
your body stuff i F.

Speaker 17 (02:02:39):
I really feel like, after the national championship run, long season,
so you really had to you know get back in
the weight room and train room and. Fine tune different
PARTS of your body and it really i, made a
big jump this past season as you can. Tell ON
on my my game tape so i really felt like my, habits.
Showed up this this past season y'all to hold us.

Speaker 2 (02:02:57):
About conversation that you're at your agent had with you
maybe a couple of years.

Speaker 16 (02:03:01):
Ago about improving as a pass catcher can you talk
about the growth in that part of your.

Speaker 5 (02:03:05):
Game, and what all went into.

Speaker 17 (02:03:06):
That yes, it really started off in the spring just
jumping in line with the receivers, and seeing how they
really break, down how they keep their.

Speaker 11 (02:03:16):
Arms PUMPING thing like the. Little THINGS that i didn't
really notice.

Speaker 17 (02:03:20):
And i didn't have as, many reps in game this
past season but just doing a lot of that and
practice and watching so many films of receivers and stuff
and continue to learn this past OFFSEASON because.

Speaker 11 (02:03:33):
It's been a, while since i played a football game
so just having that so much time to just watch
film and learn it's.

Speaker 2 (02:03:38):
Been good about how.

Speaker 4 (02:03:40):
Your decision making your vision is one of the things.

Speaker 19 (02:03:41):
That Stands out like ABOUT your abilities seawan alexander was
an mvp running back here and actually had his vision.

Speaker 11 (02:03:48):
Test that latterly had.

Speaker 19 (02:03:49):
Like could see things outside of you i'm, curious with
all the testing you've done have you ever had any
vision testing to see.

Speaker 4 (02:03:54):
IF you've got anything Going on there i.

Speaker 11 (02:03:56):
Don't Know if i've had any TESTING but i'm interested
to see. IF i have. Some type of something i
don't know when.

Speaker 4 (02:04:02):
Did you realize that that was something you had and
you're special in terms of being able to. See what
was COMING in, the home.

Speaker 11 (02:04:10):
It's not something.

Speaker 17 (02:04:10):
I Realized it's something that you, Know, coaches i've really
trusted told, me hey you're different in this aspect and
as long, as you keep understanding and you know, getting
smarter in the game of.

Speaker 11 (02:04:22):
Football YOU'RE gonna separate yourself from others so i.

Speaker 16 (02:04:25):
Took that and ran with it, already when it comes
to valuating players you guys talk a lot about.

Speaker 4 (02:04:30):
Getting know the person the competitor in the evaluation of
your story and. What, STOOD out YOU in, that aspect yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:04:38):
I just i, mean just, like class he. Talks about
you know being a pro.

Speaker 15 (02:04:43):
It's a, classy person, OBVIOUSLY was raised well yeah you
know i felt actually, felt bad for him during, the
process kind of in the background, Watching all these zoom
calls and everything like how?

Speaker 11 (02:04:54):
Many times he, had answered.

Speaker 15 (02:04:55):
The QUESTION my, wife stated you, know what i mean
and YOU know, like you know guys like I Mean
There's thirty two teams in national football. League and we
asked him several, times i'm sure he had.

Speaker 9 (02:05:04):
Answer it you know with with uh, with all the
other clubs as well and you just handled it like,
JUST with ease and And uh yeah i just it's.
UH god rest, his soul ted thoms i would say this,
is like this is a class act like, this is a.

Speaker 11 (02:05:18):
Classy Pro right here and uh yeah j it just that.

Speaker 2 (02:05:22):
Just really stood out throughout the spring.

Speaker 5 (02:05:24):
Did did are you you Mentioned?

Speaker 4 (02:05:25):
Kind of the football culture as gonnason do You remember
when you first started playing did did you just kind
of grow up playing football.

Speaker 17 (02:05:29):
With, them that you can remember or yeah, probably from
the AGE of. Like, SIX tackle, football, like i was
yeah i mean yeah my my. Cousins put, A football
IN my hands you know that's why i could talk so?

Speaker 5 (02:05:43):
Did you already seen? When to like who hadn't seen you? Wanted?

Speaker 16 (02:05:46):
To know what your game is like what game would
you tell him to go watch from the twenty TWENTY
five season or twenty twenty.

Speaker 17 (02:05:50):
Four usc for both seasons. Twenty Twenty five and twenty twenty,
four BECAUSE i've showed my verse activity what, i.

Speaker 11 (02:06:01):
Can do in the. Run game pass game and returning
ability should, during the.

Speaker 5 (02:06:05):
Way to the end zone would you rather run? Through
a defender or around.

Speaker 17 (02:06:08):
The defender why through? A, defender going into the end
zone yeah it's just it's just something about. It as,
a as a running back you, know it's you train
all all season putting all the. Heavy squads, and power
clean and stuff you know why not.

Speaker 11 (02:06:26):
Use that.

Speaker 1 (02:06:28):
When it comes to, the pass protection per running back
spot what's important is to.

Speaker 5 (02:06:32):
Be good at it and and what do you think
you need to improve?

Speaker 17 (02:06:35):
At it to be successful this level it's, all about
mentality and will you know, can you show up to
the line, meet them at the line of scrimmage don't
f fold. Back or catch, that's a big sting use
your hands. Striking them at the line of. Scrimmage but,
that comes with with preparation you, know that's how you
get more confident, knowing where guys, are gonna be AT.

Speaker 11 (02:06:55):
Studying the defense. Knowing what the o line is. Doing
so it really comes with preparation.

Speaker 20 (02:06:59):
How important, is that communication with the, offensive line particularly
WHEN you're, you know going to his nfl defense isn't
the complex splitz That you're gonna be.

Speaker 13 (02:07:05):
Faced and get?

Speaker 20 (02:07:06):
How?

Speaker 13 (02:07:06):
Important is that.

Speaker 17 (02:07:07):
Aspect for, you yah it's really important you know football,
takes all eleven guys on the field so even the
receivers got to, let you, know if something sums up you.
Know corner cot or something like that so as long,
as everyone's clicking. On the same page will be good
as offense is the part of.

Speaker 3 (02:07:21):
Your game in college that you click you didn't get
to show enough of that you.

Speaker 4 (02:07:24):
Do, Want to show at this next level.

Speaker 11 (02:07:27):
I'd probably say. Catching the ball out of the, backfield.

Speaker 15 (02:07:32):
Else a special real quick day have special shout out
TO all the coaches this weekend e k and his
staff AND we have we have sixty EIGHT uh players
here this weekend and uh they're playing on. These these
practices and, bringing everything through ek's bring every through getting,

the field ready and.

Speaker 13 (02:07:52):

Speaker 11 (02:07:54):

Speaker 2 (02:07:56):

wall there's. He was coming off of rehab appearance and
We used to go into the old kingdome clubhouse and
you have three or four chairs. A SEMI circle around
a guy's locker and i had to reach over with
my morant's tape DECK and my long microphone cable and
i fell over, a chair and it almost hit him

(02:09:36):
like it literally fell right, two INCHES from hitting him
the knee which, i think is, why he was rehabbing.
By the way because of his knee And so can
you imagine this was. God MUST have been, Twenty, ninety six.
Maybe i don't know yeah ninety, seven i'd been, here
for three YEARS two three years and he's AND. I,

(02:09:58):
put him back ON The dl.

Speaker 2 (02:10:00):
Hey the intern at kg johnson back on THE injury.

Speaker 6 (02:10:05):

show i was hosting seven to eleven could have been the,
shortest lived radio for. Seven to eleven. Not seven to
ten seven to eleven You Know why seven to eleven
because tom lee Wanted us on the year after the
mariner game. Was over to do a postgame show THAT
was the worst job in radio.

Speaker 2 (02:10:22):

approached the draft yeah that they kind of. Feel, like
they've already got that thing well they Do.

Speaker 6 (02:12:46):

Drafts Specials no WITH Luke jokol and ziggy onsa.

Speaker 2 (02:13:03):
And, dj flucker and all those? GUYS yeah what was
that drive. Class i think it was twenty thirteen it
was like they ended up bringing almost, everybody in here
for the top today.

Speaker 6 (02:13:11):
LIKE seven guys in the top thirteen I had it
written down somewhere and, i have no. Idea where It is,
but it WAS It, Was Ziggy ans It, was dj
flucker dion jordan from. Oregon he was here? For A
while who else was here eddie lacy but he was a.
Second rounder from that draft was. Here and this feels
different than that maybe maybe it's because McDonald hasn't done

(02:13:33):
it enough yet to. Make, us roll our eyes at
it well if This Was like, Move number, nine like pete,
carroll made, oh, yeah we'd be like all right well.
This IS just another ridiculous reclamation project. Those i felt
like desperation was played, none, of Those guys. Had accomplished,
Anything right like dunlap had you, know, Cincinnati Was in,
a train Wreck obviously DeMarcus lawrence. Had and certainly fowler as?

Speaker 2 (02:13:57):
As well and do you? Remember that do you? Remember
this one this. Is crazy. Now i'm stuck On Numbers
the number what number did jermaine curse? Wear his first.
Year Here Before fifteen it.

Speaker 6 (02:14:07):
Wasn't Fifteen h doug baldwin wore fifteen doug baldwin did well,
fifte year and see it he did. AND then he

to fifteen when doug wore fifteen. The first year and
Switched Eighty nine remember what happened to? Doug, BALDWIN in
