we all, but every city does. Today is so spectacular
driving down and it's you know what the weird thing was,

a Mariner playoff game, or even a full house mannor game,

no more than that. What is it's forty five what
is our sixty seven in there? So twenty two twenty

use a Seahawk game. You go to this big Seahawk game,

preseason Seahawk game. There's about fifty five thousand there, so
we're used to big crowd. It's just a different feeling vibe.

Anne Beer Hall and the Moss Bay Hall and more
importantly the Occidental Beer Hall down on next to the
stadium on Friday, and he said they're excited for it.
There's a lot of logistical challenges getting people to work.

so forth. But once you get down there, the vibe

is just different. Like a Seahawk game day, it's fun
downtown down around the area, you can find places to
go beforehand, we don't really have. We're not a great
tailgating city because just isn't places to do it. Yeah,
but there's a cool vibe. This is different. And I
was trying to think, how do I explain it, Like,
how do I kind of put it into words? What

downtown is like today? Are down by the stadium is
like today? And the closest thing I could think of is, honestly,
when I was in Salt Lake with the Olympics and
what it was like downtown Now we didn't we only
the only venue we had downtown salt Lake was figure
skating at the Delta Center. Everything else was in suburbs
or mountains, what have you. And it was also cold

in the winter time. You know, it was February in
Salt Lake. It's it's you know, it's snow. This is
different because the same kind of vibe a lot of people,
but all kinds of different countries, cultures, races, just everything
is represented today and buying large. What I saw was

just people walking around having fun with a smile on
their face, and from both sides, from both sides enjoying
the waterfront. God, what a spectacular job they did in
renovating and putting that thing together and got it done
literally just in time. I was somewhat shocked. I didn't
see a Gary Merlino truck down there doing trimming on
a tree to close down a couple of lanes, because
that's that's their favorite thing to do during the noon hour.

But but no, it the downtown vibe is awesome and
I have no desire to stand and sweat on a barge.

is there. But I drove by that. You know, I
could look down from where we're driving. That looked pretty

city is showing out in a big, spectacular way. And
I mentioned this to Andrews off the air. I think
it was two years ago when they awarded the cities
in North America. Yep, both in US Canada, and New Mexico.
You know, we knew there were certain ones that we're

going to for sure have games, like in north of
the border. Toronto was going to have games. New York Vancouver,
right beings New York, LA. You know, certainly probably they'd
find a Bay area, right, they do that, right, And
there was a question like are we going to be
a host city? And it should never have been a

question in my mind, and maybe it wasn't. Maybe that
was they never even thought twice about Seattle. But there
was stress here in our market. There were people wondering,
are we going to get left out as we did
in ninety four? That ninety four we didn't have a venue,
you know, that was still back in the Kingdome days.
I guess you could have played at Husky Stadium, sure,
although yeah, I guess you could if you had the

moat in the track there. But you could have played
a Husky Stadium and that would have been fine them,
probably pretty cool, actually, probably be really cool. Yeah, it
probably been really cool and bigger stadium, seventy six thousand people, right, So,
but we got left out in ninety four, So yeah,
I guess we did have an option in ninety four.
This has been such a great soccer city since the seventies,

when the Sounders arrived in nineteen seventy four and played it.
Now the old Memorial Stadium which is being renovated, well
I'm not renovated. It's that's like saying class key. Yeah,
pretty right now. I mean they blew it up and
they're starting all over again. But when the Sounders played
there in seventy four and seventy five before the Kingdom
opened to capacity crowds to the point where they had
to andrews it. It held fourteen thousand the first year.

By the end of the first year with the old
Sounders of the NASL, because of our strong soccer culture
here in this city, in this region, they had to
expand and they had to put temporary bleachers in both
ends behind both goals to get it up to seventeen
thousand because every game was selling out for the Sounders
those first two years. It was incredible. We've always and

then I mean the first ever event, sporting event. I
think the first event was a Billy Graham revival concert
or something. The first ever sporting event in the Kingdom
was an exhibition match between the New York Cosmos and
the Seattle Sounders, and it sold out with Pele playing, right,
I think Beckenbauer and that whole group ym but Pelee
was there and that was huge. But We've always been
a great soccer town and I'm glad we were recognized.

And is I mean probably in my life, I'm the
world couple come back to Seattle. But yours hopefully will
come back to the US, I should say. But so

few weeks, what we're seeing is this city can be

despite all of its warps and issues and problems, despite

and large. We don't discriminate in this town. We don't
like big business, we don't like little business. We don't
like any of them. Let's put parking meters up in

I didn't have a huge desire to go see random

I think every other game besides the US, well US

at noon, and the ones that are at six are

bad performances earlier this year. But because of that, you know,

a halfway point of the season. They're a game up

in the Deplorable abominable should be nuked from orbit American
League West. But I think for the first time because
kind of my mantra every time we come on here
this week has been well, you know whatever, this is
still the most talented team in the division right now,
with how banged up this positional group is getting and

threw Dan da Villa and Michael Rucker yesterday. No shade

if right now the Seattle Mariners are the most talented

And in terms of quality of those injuries, Like, boy,

There's some you know, the fact that you're missing one
of your best on bass guys the fact that you're
missing the guy you made the trade for had injury
history before and maybe that was a problem with making
that trade. You're missing the guy who should have won

this is this is the best they can do even
with those injuries, Like, it can't be that great of
a baseball team If this is the best that they

jp let's start with a Good, OFFENSIVELY jp has been
very a perfectly productive baseball player in twenty twenty, six
mostly due to the fact that he has one of
the best batting eyes In Major League. Baseball he just
will not swing at pitches that are off of the.
Plate it's a skill he's extremely good.

It he's one of the best hitters in baseball at
drawing walks and one of the guys with the least amount.

been different this year is that his throwing arm is
completely gone to. HELL i don't have the metro in
front of. Me at one point he was the ONLY
i think he is still the only starting shortstop In
Major League baseball who has not thrown a ball at
eighty miles an, Hour like he just. Hasn't the highest
he's got is like seventy nine miles per. Hour so
we're taking that, arm which has been inaccurate and, weak
and we're moving it to third, base which is oftentimes

a longer throw than from. Shortstop So i'm fascinated to
see how that. GOES i think the position will limit
the impact of his diminished, range but that arm is
going to really need to show something for me that
it hasn't shown for me to not still WinCE WHEN
i see him in the lineup every single, day even
with the positive offensive.

Contributions, chris are you convinced or do you believe that
they will during this home Stand Keith emerson at short
and truly do THE Jp crawford at third and how
will that look for? You?

emerson has just looked so much better. Defense and if
you want to say it's a smaller sample, size so be.

not saying That Colt emerson has An Angelton simmons, arm
but he certainly has more arm strength than my son

does right. NOW I and you, know the arm strength
thing at third base can be a little overrated because
of the fact that you know it's just to throw
across the diamond and if you can get just enough
oof on, it then you have a good first basement
there to make those catch that ball off the bounced
and some good things can happen And Josh naylor has his,
struggles but that is one thing he does fairly. WELL

i you need his bat in the, lineup like a
guy who's getting added at a three fifty six clip
with his seven sixty five, ops which in today's day
and age is a very very good. Ops you need
his bat in the. Lineup but, man What nathan said
about the fact that it's taking steps forward to take
steps back at times because the defense is so. Weak

he just doesn't help you in run prevention and. Whatsoever
and while this offense has talented, guys it's still a
team that's built on run. Prevention it is still a
team that has one of the better ballparks for run.
