Speaker 1 (00:00):
My dad was born in Swindon, which is the kind
of the equivalent of a Tacoma area in England, and
you know, I've rooted for them when they don't play USA,
I've rooted for England. But I was the second born
male from my dad's side in the United States. He
was born in Swindon. His family all from that area.

(00:21):
My grandma Pam had the accent until she passed. So
I was rooting for him, and I kind of had
a little bit of hope, but I kind of knew
it wasn't coming home, buddy.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
And really I kind of people thought England win that
game yesterday.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
You know, I got it because of Argentina being not
lucky at all, but because they played so many close games,
it kind of felt like, hey, maybe this is and
you know, you could argue one through eleven. They're similar
in talent. England is never lacking in talent, like there's

(00:56):
there's always been several quality players. They don't have a
a Goat, a literal goat because he's the size of
a goat, but they've had some really good players. But
it's just it's England. I just knew it can't happen
like it's kind of and this is the most depressing transition.

(01:17):
Sometimes it feels kind of like the Seattle Mariners. Sometimes
it kind of feels like as many good players as
they have, as good of a path as they can have,
it's the Seattle Mariners, and I just wonder if they
can ever do it. But boy, that was a fun game.
It was a physical game. It was an intense game.
And you know what's funny, Andrews, I don't know if
you remember this when I hosted for Ian last time,

(01:41):
I've mentioned that there wasn't a hell of a lot
going right for the World Cup in the build up.
I don't think you can say too many bad things
about this World Cup. No, Like, I think it's been
as as good of a tournament. And I've been watching
the World Cup since nineteen ninety four when they had
a giant snickerbar logo in the top right of the
screen instead of commercials. Boy that hydration break. I can't

(02:02):
imagine how much money they've made off that. But I've
been following it for a long time. This has been
and maybe it's just because I pay more attention to
the sport now, but this has been as good of
a World Cup as I can remember.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, I think you've had the superstars show out. I
think one of the big underrated parts about this World
Cup is how the US has been shown in a
different light than a lot of countries view them in
the media. However that is, I think you've had, you know,
people who don't normally travel here. Early Hollin's the best

(02:34):
example I can have. He as his own vlog that
he has and has been doing throughout his entire journey
through the World Cup. He's been shown going to countless
different places and talking about how amazing it is and
how cool of a place it is. And I don't
think that's something I don't take lightly. I think a
lot of people around the world like to really, you know,

(02:58):
crap on the US, and it's a reputation that it
gets right rightly or wrongly. I think a lot of
that has gone away with what the World Cup has
really brought. There's obviously still going to be that anti
US sentiment, and honestly, internally there's going to be that
anti world sentiment with the World Cup, and a lot
of people are like, oh, we're the US, we don't
need to watch soccer. But it's been about as amazing

(03:20):
of a tournament as you can hope for.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
I've loved every minute of it, and you know, I
choked about it on social media that my true addition
of the World Cup is games at two am that
I have to call out of work for best body
to go watch because I stayed up to watch that
instead of went to bed. But the times I can't
complain about any of that because you know, you can't
complain about kids because they're off school right now. They

(03:43):
have the chance to watch this, and I think I
think it's gonna be big. I'm gonna be really curious
to see how big this is for the Sounders if
there's gonna be like It's not like they are flailing
in attendance or anything like that. But I always think
that you get a bump when you have a tournament
like this, especially one that was played here, especially one
that had so many terrific games played literally in that

(04:07):
stadium as well. I think that might be, as the
kids say, a little more hyphie for the hot fight well,
and it also helps that they're playing their biggest rival
as well on Friday.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah, I think I'm curious to see what the local
increase is I don't want to be the Debbie Downer.
I don't think it'll really change that much in terms
of MLS specifically. The big thing that I'm curious about
is after watching these superstars, how much are people that
maybe were casual soccer fans maybe and only MLS watchers

(04:40):
that now go and follow these superstars at their clubs. Oh,
that's gonna be I think the big determining factor of
you know what this World Cup has brought to the
casual soccer fan here in the US.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
You know, I didn't think about this until right now.
Is it hurt that the stations that air the EPL
and air some of those stuff didn't have the World
Cup because maybe less of a tie in per se?
Could that be a fact? I mean, so you know

(05:13):
I tuned in to watch Chelsea play every five am
or eight am whatever to go watch on NBC or Peacock.
Well NBC or Peacock didn't have the World Cup, right,
so you know, maybe you have to do a little
more research, you know, to see what the stations are on.
I think it would have been a nice tie in
if Fox, you know who. I think Fox's coverage has

(05:35):
been solid.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
This World Cup. I've liked it a lot more.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Sure, there's there's an exception to that that maybe we
could talk about in a second, but I think I
think they've done solid. But maybe it would be nice
if you could say, hey, this is where you're going
to turn in to see Manchester City play, or this
is where you're going to turn in to see La
Liga or League One or the Bundesliga, which is just

(05:59):
such a fun thing to say. But yeah, I'm gonna
be very curious. Four nine four one has this on
the takomadage text line. Has this tournament led to more
excitement for soccer for you going forward? Or is are
and it's okay? You know. I'll compare it to the
C and C Catholic the guy who goes just Christian

(06:19):
and Easter. It's okay if you're just into the World
Cup and nothing else.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I compare it to hockey too. Maybe you don't watch
the NHL, but you watch the Olympics.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Oh yeah, sure, or just to Stanley Cup final except
you know you're not. This is very common with Olympic sports.
No one gives a flying crap about ice skating until
it happens, and then it's the most watched thing and
it's not even close.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Now.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
The difference is ice skating isn't popular around the world,
it's just popular at the Olympics. Soccer is the most
watched sport by a substantial margin.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
And it's not for everyone here in the US, right.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Not for everyone there is, especially if you got into
traditional football and tradition of baseball. There's no other There's
no other version of it or basketball. It's a very
different sport than those sports. It's similar esque to hockey,
similar esk It's not a perfect comparison, but it's closer
in terms of score lines, in terms of you know,

(07:12):
there's a goal, all that stuff. It's an easier comparison.
But it's not for everyone. But I do think that
if you take the time to learn about the sports,
I do think that it's going to be something a
lot more appreciate and it's I think easier because of
the time zone stuff. So yeah, four nine, four or
five one, let us know what you're thinking about it.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I want to add really quick, even if it
is a slight change, and maybe you're not going to
watch MLS or whatever, but you watched soccer and maybe
you have a slightly different viewpoint on it now after
watching the World Cup, even if it's slight, just let
us know, or maybe not, or maybe even you hate
it even more.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
And you know what, because of the var stuff and
because of the interesting decision about a reversal or not
a reversal, a suspension, have a red card, maybe that
turns you off. Yeah, I'd be interesting to hear if
anyone has that opinion as well. What I have, fay
more basic understanding of how people feel right now is

(08:09):
about the Seattle Mariners. And well, real quick, because I'm
watching the replay of it right now, I wanted to
talk quickly about the All Star Game because boy, that
didn't seem to go very well.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
I didn't watch a second of it.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Neither did I Wow, And that tells you something, because
I what the heck was I watching? I might have
just been laying down and just didn't feel like watching
the game, to be honest with.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
You, because there's no World Cup on it.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
There's no World Cup, and so yeah, there's no real
excuse here. Why wasn't I watched in the game other
than the fact that it was apparently just a snore
an absolute snore. And here's another one for the Tacoma
Dodge text line four nine four five one. Have we
moved past the need for All Star games?

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Yes, I've been far ahead of that.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I am getting there too. Now. Look, the Pro Bowl's
always been bad. The MLB All Star Game has moments
of greatness, and it used to be something that And
here's the thing. Interleague play was a necessary thing to
bring and also is a lot of fun, but it
also took away some of the fun of the All

(09:18):
Star Game because that would be the only way, as
a kid, anders that I could watch Barry Bonds, that
I could watch Bobby Benia, that I could watch Doug
dreyback pitching. Gosh, I'm old. That was the only way
we could see him because we didn't have as many
options to see baseball. We didn't have the MLBtv or

(09:42):
anything like that. That was my chance. Now I can
see these guys anytime I want. I can watch a
YouTube highlight of them, I can watch MLBtv. I can
watch them on either ESPN or now Netflix. By the way,
we'll talk a little bit about the Netflix presentation of
that show, because I have a lot to be for
telling me interesting things there, but the baseball one used

(10:04):
to be good. The basketball one I kind of like
watching two age six to three forty two, So I mean,
it's kind of fun to watch those guys score. But
I get it from the fact that the lack of competition,
and I know this most recent one, they changed rules
so it became more competitive. I don't know, I just
feel like we maybe moved past the need for All

(10:24):
Star games.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
See here's my weird take is that maybe the actual
game itself needs to be done with. But I think
you could keep just the home run Derby and have
a lot of people really like it still, because I think,
for by all stretch of the amount like people that
are evaluating it, that was a good home run Derby, sure,
and it was fun. Yeah. I like the outs instead
of the clock much better. And then you could say

(10:47):
the similar thing with NBA. I know it's lost a
little bit of its poll, but get rid of the
All Star Game, but keep the dunk contest, you know
what I mean, So like the side things that actually
a lot of the time end up being more entertaining
than the actual game itself. For me, that's what I
would do to kind of keep some sort of festivities
during the break without trying to fake like it's a

(11:08):
it's a game of any importance whatsoever, and you're not
risking injury at that point either. It's it's the picture
situation in the All Star Game is really weird because
you don't want your pitchers to play, but then you
want to see them pitch on that level. You don't
have that issue with the home run derby. So that's
where I kind of would lie kind of in between,
like I don't need to see the game itself. Just

(11:29):
give me the home run derby, Right.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
I think that's fair? Four nine, four five one. What
would you like to see there? We've got a really
fun show today. We're going to talk We do this
every year with Ian, you know, taking his I almost
insulted him again. I'm gonna be nice today Ian taking
the dessert.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Just listen.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Yeah, that's a good point. Way we do this every
year that we have talked about potential trade targets. Anders
and I will go over that. We're going to start
with the American League today and we'll go over some bats,
some potential bullpen options, and also maybe just a couple

(12:09):
of starting pitchers as well. So we'll go over that.
At one o'clock, we're going to have Keith Lock come
on to talk about the MLB draft. I also want
to ask him about Lazara Montes and Michael Royal, who
both get promoted to tripa A, whether or not those
guys could be helpers for the Seattle Mariners if you
were going to trade one of those guys, which one

(12:30):
makes the most sense. Keith says, in touch with this
stuff as anybody eyes. And then in the two o'clock hour,
I'm gonna do my best not to go on a rant,
but I want to talk about Seahawks, but I want
to talk about it in a little bit of a
different way because I saw another reel today where people
were complaining about the Rams being the favorite to win

(12:50):
the NFC West and win the Super Bowl, and a
whole bunch of comments about nobody pays attention to us,
nobody respects us, they not like us, we do not care.
Except for that we do not care. Doesn't seem to
apply to Seahawks fans. And I want to talk about
that and why it matters. Why do we have such

(13:11):
a need in our little corner, And I do think
our little corner spoiler alert has something to do with that.
Why it's such a big deal, why it's so important
for these guys to why it's so important for fans
excuse me, to get that respect everywhere, to get to
be the national attention team. I think it's a really

(13:33):
interesting topic, and I get it. I do get it
because I've been there. I've been there and wondering why
people aren't treating the Seahawks like the Dallas Cowboys or
the Green Bay Packers when they're better than those teams
like consistently now. But I also think it's a little
weird that we care so much. So we'll talk about that.

(13:54):
Anders are we breaking at twelve twenty or twelve fifteen?
Twe twelve twenty oh, so we've got time to talk
a few minutes such of stuff that's awesome. Like I said,
I left the sheet, it's it's spring training for me.
That's That's the way I think about it is I
get one spring training show and then I get one finale.
Except I've done this like ten times this year.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
So I probably does that mean you're not going to
the postseason?

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Oh gosh, no, no, I might be tanking at this point.
I get a high draft, getting getting one oh four
point nine funky monkey to listening to listening to my
tape and see what I can do.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
I have a quick question for you lead regarding Mariners,
because there's a lot of sentiment around this team and
how poorly they played going into the All Star break.
The debbiest of downers will say, well, they should just sell.
You know, the market will get you a lot in return.

(14:51):
Because of how many teams are in sort of contention
at this point. They don't have a ton of huge pieces, right,
Someone like Randy Roserena would be your biggest ticket because
he's a free agent after this year and he's your
one All Star, right, and you could still do like
a little half sell half buy situation like they did

(15:12):
in twenty twenty three, which a lot of fans hate. Yes,
but I'm just curious on your thoughts. Should they be
going all in right now based on how poorly they
are playing? Yes, okay, but.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
It's only because of what is happening in the American
League and also what has happened over the last fifty years.
So it's an interesting little juxtaposition. Yeah, because it's very
short term and it's also very long term when you
have never done this and you were eight outs away
from doing it and you have the farm system that
you do and the ability to go get better. Now,

(15:44):
it's interesting. Jerry Depoto has some comments that we're going
to explore it a little bit and.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
They're about as predictable as it gets, Chris Craft.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
They are as predictable as it gets. And I will
just say this, sometimes I wonder what people expect Pobo's
president of as to say, doesn't that sound like a
great Italian restaurant? By the way, the Doma Gonzone get
the Polopoto. It's funny how that's not considered racist for
some reason. But you know, we'll talk about this. But

(16:16):
like there's pressure on this team. There is pressure to succeed.
And there's not only pressure. There is and I know
I use the term golden opportunity too much. There is
a golden opportunity here. The best team is the Tampa
Bay Race in the American League right now? Are you
kidding me? Are you kidding me? The New York Yankees

(16:37):
are incredibly flawed and have some major injuries that it's
going to be and they don't have the farm system
that Seattle does to go get those pieces. The Ale
Central is a division like that. That's that's the that's
a division. It's a division and good for the White Sox.
Like you know, the I don't know if it was
worth being this bad for that long, but you're starting
to pay the The fruits are starting to come. They've

(16:59):
got some good young play and they're taking advantage of this.
The Guardians just always seem to be eighty five and
seventy seven and it's good enough to make the postseason
and give. But then, and then you look at your
own division and it is just Anderson.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
What is it ten pounds of crap in a five pound.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Bag and pounds of crap in a five pounds You
bet your sweet Bippy it is ten pounds of crap.
Let's go in a five pound bag. So yes, to
answer your question, I do think that they selling to
me would be a massive mistake unless things absolutely fall
apart over the next three weeks. We'll talk more about
this next Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the Huskies,
Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's
closest snow called me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Chris Crawford and for Ian Furness joined by my good
buddy andrews Hurst. So we were talking some baseball and
we're gonna talk a bunch of trade stuff. A bunch
of this has kind of been to be the trade
of Palooza next forty eight hours talking about that stuff.
So I was just thinking about this. Anders. Let's start
with where we think the Seattle Mariners could potentially get better.

(18:14):
And I'm just gonna go position by position. You tell
me whether or not you think it would be possible
or realistic to upgrade the position. I'll start with catcher.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
I mean probably not.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
I think no. I also think they wouldn't even try
because they want the realistic part. And you're talking like,
can you get better than what ca? Yes, you could
get a heck of a lot better, but no, they won't. Yes.
And also I do think sometimes his defense gets a
little underrated, like he's still really helping the team in
that regard. Sure, the bat has to get a hell
of a lot better quick.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Yeah, he's like the main reason why I think he's
the biggest reason why the Mariners are where they are
right now.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Here's an interesting one. First base.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
I mean again, they won't, but I still feel like
you could get better.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
I think that they could. I also think it is
somewhat realistic if they would be willing to make Josh
Naylor a designated hitter, because you're gonna play Josh Naylor
like seventeen million dollars a year. The Mariners have done
some funny stuff. They made Mitch Garver a twelve million
dollar backup catcher. I don't think they're doing that for
a guy they just gave close to a hundred million.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, and like, yes, his bat hasn't been amazing this year,
but he's far from their biggest issue offensively.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
We can talk about that.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Second base no, No, shortstop yes.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Yeah, I think shorts up's an underrated one to talk about,
and we'll talk about why in a second there.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Third base, yes, left fields probably not, probably not, just
because I know they won't. I mean, you can't have
sixty h's no, so if you want to put Josh
Naylor a DG, you can't put Randy at DH.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Crazy. I just want one balanced baseball team one time,
just one time, because I think about the Forensic era
where they had the greatest Mariner defense I've ever seen,
but the team full of punch and judy hitters, to
say the very least. And then there have been some
teams that are softball beer league, and this is closer

(20:20):
to beer league.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
But you know, so the thing is, I actually think
if you had a team of better defensive players, Randy's
defense wouldn't stand out as much.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
That's a fair point.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
And like having your worst defender in left field, that's
pretty common.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
It's one of the most common things. It's so funny
that you know in h in movies, usually bad movies,
they have the crappy kid playing right field. Obviously, we're
not calling Randy rose Arena crappy, comparing him to the
kid with the snot bubble, with the glasses that right
only playing because his mom needs him out of the hack. Yeah, exactly.

(20:57):
But honestly, that's where you kind of put the left field. Yeah,
you know, you do it in right field because nobody's
hitting the ball that way in little league. But yeah,
and then centerfield I'm just gonna answer for you know,
there's there's just there's no realistic path there and right.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
Field debatable depends on how you feel about can Zone
and Luke Rayley. They both have been playing well this year,
but what like and even Victor Robos like what at
times has looked like pretty decent since coming back, especially defensively,
like having someone there who actually can defend the position.
If you could combine all those players in a one

(21:32):
wouldn't that'd be great?

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Oh, it would be wonderful, especially if one of them
hit right handed. Yeah, victory, that's a fair point.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Victor defense and right handed stance, yes, dom can Zone's
raw power, Luke Rayley's speed, question marks.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
That's just the phoebe it all. It's just so funny
watching it.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah, it's pretty funny.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
And maybe like being able to have the ability to
get hot like Luke Rayley.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Yeah, he gets He gets hot as as much as anyone, So.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Jan Zone has a little bit of that. But I've
been really impressed.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
With the consistency of him this year. Relief pitching, yes, yeah,
you can always add to the bullpen.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
You can always.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
I don't. I don't think it. The bullpen is as
big of an issue as a lot of people say
it is. This year.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
It's crazy. How many people just think this bullpen is
the worst. And I'm not saying it's great. And I
will say this, the back end of the bullpen, like
the very back is really bad.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Is an issue.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
It's a really big issue. All due respect to Michael
Rutger and to some of the other guys who've been
in that situate. Place, who's the other guy. I'm not
thinking of Nick Davila, who pitched great on Sunday, by
the way, and so did Michael Rutgers.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
So when you say back into the bullpen, you're not
talking munos that back end.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
No, we're not talking about closer. We're talking about the
low health the thirteenth, the low leverage guy starting pitching. No,
I tend to agree, but there's an exception that I
still think I would make if one guy was realistically available.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
I mean, yeah, but we'll talk about that guy.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
But I will say this, the depth that you have
at starting pitching is so vastly under rated.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
If anything, you could trade one of those guys first
one of these positions.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
And I think here's nostra dam Chris making in early prediction.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
They're gonna do it.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Finally, I think one of those guys is gonna get moved.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Which one I think is Louis Castillo?

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Really, And because I think Louis Castillo, here's the trade
I keep going to and would. I wanted to save
it for Friday, but I just can't. Luis Castillo in prospects,
not elite prospects, but prospects to the Chicago Cubs for
a certain outfielder that I will save for Friday. I

(23:46):
think makes all the sense in the world because he
fills needs.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
You could say, either one of their corner outfielders. To
be honest, well, we'll see which one you say.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
We'll see which one I say. If they invite me back.
They changed the lots on this place at So basically
what we just talked about, there's lots of areas the
Mariners can get better. There are realistic paths to get better.
But the general manager of the Seattle Mariners may not
be so sure. Excuse me, the president of Baseball Operations

(24:17):
is not so sure. He had some quotes today and
he said, I'm just paraphrasing here because I don't have
the whole thing, because it's a Tolstoy novel of a
quote that he thinks that there basically, are not players
that are better than the Seattle Mariners who could make
the Seattle Mariners better? Do you have that exact quote?

Speaker 2 (24:37):
And I could pull it up really quick. Yeah, it
was sent to us through our group chairs. Benton, Yes,
and a.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
Certain Nathan Bishop reacted very calmly.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
Just as everyone would expect.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
The best players we can acquire are the players that
we have.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
That's justice such.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
We just need them to do the things that they
have historically done.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
And you know, it's a very cliched quote, it's a
very coach speak but front office speak. But when you
have this team's history, I understand anyone who hears that
and gets madder than a wet hen because that's the

(25:25):
last thing I want to hear if I'm a Seattle
Mariner fan what it tells me, even if it's correct,
and he's not one hundred percent wrong, because these guys
do have to put Josh Nayler cal Rawley, all those
guys have to play better, have to have to have
to have to. You have to get more from Colt Emerson,
you have to get more from Julio, you have to
get more from JP Crawford. You have to find out

(25:46):
what island. Brenda Donovan is currently at by the way
he did start his rehab assignment. S that is wonderful
for three, but you know what, we just want him
healthy and getting at batts because I do think he
could play an important part. But at the same time,
you can't be in the position you are after last
year and tell me that this is okay, that this

(26:06):
is okay to just play status quo here, because that's
what that quote says to me is status quo is
what is going to have to happen. I'm not okay
with that. I'm curious if you are Tacoma Dodge text
line four nine four five one. We'll talk a little
more about this. Sports Radio ninety three point three kids RFM.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and the twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest sn'll call me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Ooh, I like a funky bass line. Anders knows I
like a funky bass line, and he just he loves
to give me what I need. Chris Crawford Inverness Andrews,
We've got a little bit of breaking news. The Seattle
Mariners have sent their rotate.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Oh I love that song too.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Imagine that with like a funky bassline and couldn't you
see a rapper dropping Like if that's not bad, I
don't hate that. I don't hate that at all. We
do have some news that the Mariners have set their rotation,
and Andrews, I'll let you go ahead and give the
good news. Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Yes, So there are three game series against the Giants
begins on Friday. That will be Bryce Miller on the mound,
Saturday will be Brian wu and Sunday will be Logan Gilbert.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
I don't have any strong thoughts about it, but I
will tell you then.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
That deserves the breaking news sounder.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
No, but I do think it's interesting that Bryce Miller
gets that first call because I think he was pretty
pretty clearly your best starter, yeah, for the first half
of the year. And you know, it's interesting. I think if,
in fact, I know, if Bryce Miller would have gotten
more innings, he would have absolutely made the All Star team.
You couldn't have justified him not being on that All

(27:58):
Star team. I think Logan Robert also had a case
to be on that All Star team, very comparable numbers
to some other players. That didn't make it interesting kind
of that Wu is in between the two, because if
you were just going on merit based on how they
pitched over the second half, I would say it would
be Castille than Wu that I would be doing, and
then you'd be talking about this. Also you could argue

(28:22):
Emerson Hancock. I wonder how ready Emerson Hancock is going
to be because for those who missed it, and it
was like a week ago, so it's understandable. He takes
a one oh seven ball off of his hand real quick. Emerson,
next time, just move, just get out of the way. Please,
please don't try to feel that ever again. Go undergoes

(28:42):
an MRI. There's no structural damage, but he does have
a bruise and contusions on your finger. Anyone who's had
one before knows that you can get swollen there for
a while and it could be really difficult to group
a baseball. And I'm guessing the Mariners are probably holding
Hancock back to make sure that he's one hundred percent there,
because if you were going merit based, I think you

(29:05):
would go Miller, and then you would probably go Gilbert
than Hancock. Is that fair?

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Yeah, I think so. Yeah, if Hancock's one healthy, right, Yeah,
I maybe even Hancock I had of Gilbert personally, just
based off of I know, Hancock kind of dropped off
a little bit, but his his highs this season have
been higher, at least for an extended period of time. Sure,
but you could argue either way.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Yeah, I mean the only thing you really can't argue,
I think is that Castillo has to be sixth in
the merit list, and also that I think it'd be
hard to argue that George Kirby wouldn't be fifth, And
that's more compliment to I think the names above than
insult to him. But it is also fair to say
that Kirby has been very mixed since a really good

(29:53):
start to the season.

Speaker 5 (29:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
I think the point of this is that, like there's
even with Bryce Miller pitching as well as he is,
he's starting to separate himself from the pack. But the
managers don't have anyone where you could say, all right,
first game coming back, instantly putting you in there, right,
you could you could really argue either one. So and
now it's just more about like, okay, maybe even matchup
based to to, you know, pitch at home versus pitch

(30:14):
on the road. Which kind of lineup do you want
them to face?

Speaker 3 (30:18):
Like?

Speaker 2 (30:18):
That's where the Mariners are at this point, and it
is weird to say. With starting pitching being one of
their strengths, I think a lot of people would agree
with that, but not having a guy guy is it
is a little bit I don't want to say concerning,
but it's surprising to me at this point because we
expected there to at least be one or two from
this group, and none of them have really kind of

(30:40):
stood out besides Bryce Miller, and of course he's been
injured for a large portion of this year.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Yeah. Absolutely text from two to five to three that
brings up that Chuck Pale this morning suggested that he'd
put Kirby in that spot because you get two home
games from him and he's been kind of sketchy there.
I'm guessing that's kind of what they're thinking with Brian
Wuhe Yeah, he's the big gap boy O boy has
he really struggled away? And I just don't know a

(31:05):
lot of people ask me why and my answer is
just the shoulder shrug emoji, because I just have no
idea other than the fact that you can't be as
good as you are on the road as he is
at home, like where he literally doesn't give up runs.
You have to give him up somewhere. But it's not
like he's like he has six innings of three run
baseball five innings of two. He's getting shellcked on the

(31:27):
road on a pretty consistent basis.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Was this something that was the case the last couple
of years of him as well.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
I'll have to be honest, I didn't notice it, and
nobody really brought it up to me, because we know
the most famous one for the Seattle Mariners was Louis Castillo,
that he was so much better in the friendly confinence
than he was away from Seattle. But boy, oh boy,
it's been just a disaster. I mean, some starts that

(31:55):
are nowhere close to good enough for him. So I see,
I see your eyes moving that no I had. Oh okay,
I was gonna say, oof magof that is a is
oof magoof Chris Crawford. Isn't too?

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Yeah it is? I think so last year was ten
and two at home, five and five on the road.
But the era is not a huge difference. Two point
four four at home three point four on the road.
So that's that's standard.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, that's that's a totally cromulent difference in era. I
love saying the promulent. That's a There's a Simpsons episode
where they try to use cromulant and the biggin as
uh as uh what the hell is the game called
scrabble words and then both they're both used in real
life like later too, and they've both have been added

(32:38):
as words to the dictionary. Yeah, which is pretty funny,
but it's also interesting. Speaking of pitching, there was an
extension announced today for Chase Burns. You've got seven years.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
That was in your headlines. Believe it or not.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
I do believe it. I do believe it, and I'll
probably have to get those from you at some point.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
I put them out there. I think they should be.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
We could find them. We can find them. If not,
I'll just Mike Benton, you thief of thieves. I think
that's an interesting extension because that's a guy with no uh,
he's completely arbitration eligible. All of that stuff is completely
bought out. Seven years, one hundred and five million dollars.

(33:18):
One of the best young pitchers in baseball has a
chance to be better, considerably better, and you could argue
he might be better than some of these guys that
the Mariners need to give contract extension to you now.
But I'm just telling you, you look at seven to
one oh five for a guy who had no leverage.
You're gonna have to pay some of these starting pitchers
so much money, so much money, And I'm just I'm

(33:43):
really curious to see which one is gonna get it,
because I don't think it's gonna be all three. When
and by all three, i'm talking about Wu, Kirby, and Gilbert. Yeah,
I think it's actually gonna be two of the four.
You think it's gonna be two of the four? Oh Hancock,
Oh Miller. Isn't that crazy that I just didn't think
of him as one of those guys.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Miller Wu Castille or Miller, Wu, Kirby, Gilbert. I think
two of those four, probably one of two from Kirby
and Gilbert and then one of two from Miller. If
you could only extend one one of those four, Yeah,
Bryce Miller. Actually, no, I'm starting to rethink that because
of his injury history. He's younger, though probably Brian Will.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
It's interesting for me, if all the cost was the same,
it would be Gilbert because I think he has the
best ceiling and a floor that I think is acceptable.
I also worry a little bit about what's going to
happen when he loses velocity because he moves. That extension
is so important for him, but it could be an issue.

(34:47):
There's flaws to all of these guys. Yeah, and it's there.
Here's the thing. There's a very good chance that the
number one pitcher for the Seattle Mariners is pitching in
double A right now. Yeah, there's a very good chance
that that's the actual which one. It's a good interesting question.
And you know what, I'm gonna ask my buddy Keith
Law what he would do with that. Sports Radio ninety

They're going home.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Actually, hey, they are very much going now. They've got
a third place game against France that everyone will be

Speaker 2 (35:50):
I won't be on the final, Jackson Felts will be.
I'm doing the third place game.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Oh I'm less interesting, Just kidding, I love you. Jacksons
begin a series with the Giant's on Friday at seven, ten,
forty eight, and forty nine at the All Star Break,
and we've got some interesting quotes from mister Depoto about
the direction of that team. I'll start by andre. Chase
Burns and the Cincinnati Reds are in agreement on a
seven year, one hundred and five million dollar contract extension.

(36:16):
And this is interesting in NBA news, the NBA is
investigating a four year, sixty four million dollar deal between
Gary Trent Junior and the Milwaukee Bucks for possible salary
cap circumvention. I will admit the moment I saw that contract,
I was like, what did Gary Trent know about the
Milwaukee Bucks.

Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the Huskies,

Speaker 1 (36:54):
Chris Crawford in for Ian Furness. Getting to get ready
to talk to our good buddy Keith Law in just
a second. We're going to ask him about the MLB Draft,
which I know is not the most exciting of events,
but it's certainly one that has been close to my hearts.
And you know that I think the Mariners did pretty well,
but I'll be curious to see what mister Law thinks

(37:15):
about it. You know what, we can just ask him
right now. But first of all, Keith, thank you so
much for doing this. It's always a pleasure when I
get to talk to somebody I've known for a very
long time. But I just realized that I have never
asked you your opinion on something. I'm going to ask
it now. What are your thoughts on this side? What
are your thoughts on the Seattle dog?

Speaker 3 (37:36):
What is that?

Speaker 1 (37:38):
Oh boy, so it's a hot dog.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
I'm assuming this is not like a different breed of
no like no, no, we don't.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
We don't, we don't, we don't cross a docs in
with a storm shelter or anything like that. But it
is a it is a hot dog. It's usually a sausage.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
Oh my god, this is disgusting, dude, what is this?
This is horrible?

Speaker 2 (38:01):
No, it is.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
This is so so here's the think. I get it.
But it is so good, and I I just kind
of demand that you try it. And I know that
you're probably not going to, but there is something about it.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
I would even beef cheese is nasty. That's that is
cream that went bad. I will drink cream out of
the cart where I would be crean cheese.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Oh, Keith, I just said such nice things about you,
and uh, it's understandable. I will admit that the Seattle
dog is a one that has some volatility to it.
But uh, this is not Saint Louis Pizza bad or
anything like that.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
I'm not taking this in the top ten.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Launds take him to the ninth round. Wouldn't give him
signing bonus like in the Moneyball scene that had no flow,
like at did giving kids?

Speaker 3 (39:00):
Did this? Didn't it? DeLanda gave the guys five hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Jees, Louise, goodness, gracious. The draft is such a weird
thing right now. But Keith, the Seattle Mariners, they make
their ten picks. It is a very collegiate heavy draft.
Just one high school guy, and that one high school
guy is already announced that he's going to go to LSU.
Just kind of your overall thoughts on what Seattle did
over those two days.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Yeah, I usually just for context of listeners too. I
usually love Seattle's drafts, and I would have to say
this year, I thought it was just kind of okay.
I'm a little bit of a skeptic on east Reese
just because I know he does hit the ball hard.
I get it, we're all chasing that. I don't see
a great approach. I really don't. He's going to need

(39:45):
a lot of work to stay at third base. It's
a little bit of the Tyler Locklear thing. The big
difference I see, of course, is Reese did it in
the SEC and lockleyer never had to face really good
philosophy of nature. Reese certainly did, and he was able
to hit reasonably well against the SEC. So not the same.
I'm just saying I see some of the same profile
issues of all their picks. Actually think Jake Brown is

(40:06):
probably the most interesting one, and they probably don't get
him there deep into the second round if you hadn't
been hurt for it the second half of the season.
But I know a lot of R and D guys
were thought he was basically a first round bat and
he could keep playing for people to see him. There
are a whole lot of you know, we're going to
why like he was just sort of undervalued, maybe a
little under scouted as a result of the injury especially,

(40:29):
And then I thought they, you know, some of these
even some of the lesser picks, they don't generally pick
on teams. Criticized teams for fourth, fifth, sixth round for fast,
but they went a little more conservative than I would
have expected. This is a team that has very happily
assumed some risk to try to get upside in the draft,
and I don't know if there's any way they really

(40:50):
did that. Might say that with Henry Ford a little bit,
because I think if you overhaul a swing, which is
a lot to ask, there's a way better player in there.
But also, these guys just not hit all that well
now for three years in a couple of different schools,
so it's there's a reward there, but it's pretty low
probability of working out. So yeah, the first time, he forever,
absolutely forever that I had not been really happy with the.

Speaker 1 (41:12):
Album Draft Chris Crawford and Free in FORNESZ talking to
Keith law on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Let's go back
to Reese for a sec, because you know, it's interesting.
The ex of velocity numbers are really impressive. Obviously the
power production numbers. Is a guy who swung and missed
outside or has excuse me, chased in twenty nine percent
of his swings, which is a pretty high number. But

(41:35):
you do look at a guy who drew forty one walks.
But I do think sometimes we have to be careful
with college walks. How much of that is, you know,
just the fear of facing someone like Ace Rees who
could hit the ball so far, And how much of
that is well, he did show so enough selectivity to
at least put up those free passes.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Yeah, I see. I'm more in the former because I
do think you guys get pitched around is probably pushing
it a little bit. But there are so many kids
in college baseball now where everybody throws ninety five, especially
in the SEC you see a guy who a lot
of an sec bullpen he's throwing ninety two might get
expelled in a day like it is unbelievable how much

(42:16):
velocity there is at the good colleges. But a lot
of these guys just can't throw strikes. And so I
think a lot of especially underclass pitchers will see a
guy like Lease and they're trying to throw at one
hundred and they're certainly trying to avoid throwing it in
the zone knowing what he will likely do. He had
one of the best hard hit rates and anybody in
all of college baseball this year, and I think he

(42:36):
was top ten in all of Division one out of
over two thousand hitters who were consider qualifying by how
much they played. So I don't really buy that selectivity.
I do think once he gets into pro ball, you're
going to see him get exploited. You're going to see
the strikeout rate go up quite a bit and see
the walk rate, maybe not to like it's a double ag,

(42:57):
but you're going to see the walk rate come down
quickly because it's not going to be so it's not
those obviousnesses the pitches that are I think of a
non competitive pitches where I'm even the out scouting and
I see a header take a walk. The one thing
I write down cling down the walk isn't that interesting.
But were they competitive? Were they good takes? Or with
this one of those where he didn't have any decisions
to make because the pitcher couldn't find the broadside Go Baard.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Nathan Taylor their third round pick, a guy that signs
for slot value seven hundred and seventy eight thousand. Now
I look at the profile Keiths ninety two to ninety four,
pretty good slider, generally throws strikes. It is pretty similar
to the profiles that they have drafted over the past
few years and done really well with. Now nobody that

(43:42):
I talk to and nothing based on my brief look
at him, suggested that this was a top one hundred
prospect in this draft, and now he goes one on one,
so he technically doesn't go in the top four hundred,
but not a guy that I heard was a top
four round talent, more in the five or six. But
if you're Seattle, do you, as an analyst, as somebody

(44:04):
who pays attention to this stuff and grades process, do
you give a little bit of a pass knowing that
Seattle has done so well with profiles like Taylor's, I want.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
To see what they do with him. Doesn't change my
valuation to the player or even the pick that you've
got to consider who else was on the board at
the time. However, his main thing is he's a two
pitch guy, and it's hard to be a two pitch
stars fastball break and wants fastball flyers specifically, and both
of those pitches might be good enough to make him
a major league starter, but he's got to have something else,

(44:36):
you know, a huge potent split this year. This year
meaning left he's really got in because he didn't have
anything for them. Seattle has had a good track record
with helping guys develop or even add pitches, and they
think Oden Gilbert just came up with Clombo. We were
having this conversation, so they are going to end up
trying something new with him. I won't be surprised at
all if he shows up next year and there's a

(44:57):
different change up a kick, change is splitter, something like that.
So I sort of view it two different ways. The
way I evaluate him on the pick is based solely
on who he is and what else was on the
board at the time, but now that he's in their system,
when I get to the point where I'm writing him up,
particularly once he gets in their system, we see what
he looks like after they've gotten their hands on him.

(45:19):
Is going to be very different because they do think
they're going to make fairly quick to do because I
just know that they're being pent usim as a starter,
so that implies to me they're going to add a pitch,
if not.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
Too Chris Crawford and Free in forness talking to Keith Law,
I want to ask you real quick about Henry Ford.
So with the Mariners tray to Harry Ford, they drafted
Henry Ford six foot five, who made some pretty significant
swing changes as far as I understand, and went from
being a guy who might have been hit above power
to considerably more power over hit. I think the biggest

(45:52):
worry for at least me, based on history, is right
right first baseman, and it almost assuredly Harry Ford. Henry
Ford is going to have to move to first base.
They tend to not have exactly the best history. But
I kind of sawt in the sixth round that this
was kind of an interesting little target. Would you agree, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (46:10):
I would agree, And also he was a guy who
as a coming into his sophomore year, he stopped more
eligible in Virginia. I had him as a possible first round,
an outstanding defensive first bason who looked like he'd be
able to handle an outfield corner, and he looked like
a pretty good field of hit and some indicators that
there would be power down the road and becown immediately.

(46:33):
He kind of had a meteorcre year, but Virginia just
never really developed that that well. Under Brian O'Connor, who's
now in Mississippi State, Bordley's goes to Tennessee. Tennessee is
a great place to hit, different voices, different programs. He
does get some more power, but nothing else got better,
If anything else, kind of the other aspects of the
hitting got worse, And he cannot play third base like
that is just a non starter. That's right. That is

(46:56):
I guess the solinoid is dead or something. That's car joking,
not a thing. And so now you're right, it's probably
first base and they should try him in the outfield
begin but they're going to have to find a way.
Is there a point a path of approach and swing
because his swing has always been pretty different where he

(47:16):
gets to hit and has power. Right, there's got to
be both of these things at the same time for him,
the profile, whether he's a plus defender at first or
just an average defender in the outfield corner.

Speaker 1 (47:29):
Keith Love the Athletic joining us on the Beacon Plumbing hotline.
You got a chance to go to the futures game.
A little bit of a weird one because of the time,
but always a fun if flawed events. A lot of
guys throwing really really hard, trying to just absolutely light
up those radar guns. But two Mariners, Ryan Sloan and
Kate Anderson, both playing that game, both have good statistical line.

(47:53):
I got to ask what you thought of both Kate
Anderson and Ryan Sloane, how they performed in that game.

Speaker 3 (47:59):
B looks a bit better now. It's not to say
he's a better prospect, but Sloan just came out. It
was ninety seven to one hundred. He was attacking hitters,
which is the thing you want to see with him.
Right with him, it's going to just come down to
strike and obviously staying healthy because he's young and he
throws so hard. Anderson I feel like this is not
a criticism approached. It sort of more working in like way.

(48:21):
I'm not going to try to light up the rail gun.
I'm just going to come here, throw my ten fifteen
pitches and get out of here. And that was fine.
He's easily throwing ninety three ninety five against We talked
after he pitched the Breakouts game in the spring. Is
velocity with Dan? My god, I hope this isn't permanent.
It's not. Obviously he's fine. He's been so dominant in

(48:41):
Double A he probably would be in the majors for
the majority of teams at this point. So to me,
you just didn't get a great feel for what Cananderson
is really like from watching the Futures Game. But I'm
totally fine with that. If I were running player development
for any team we had a pitcher going to the
Futures game, I'd say, we're super happy before you, we're
going to send you. Do not throw massed up or

(49:03):
to not try to light up the raidar gun. But
they didn't put Velocity up anywhere we could see at
the stadium. Oh, it's not up on any of the displays.
Then I wonder, Okay, it's possibly just screwed up, right,
because we got Kinnish who can't even say the name
of the first But I also wondered, were they trying
to discourage kids from throwing a hundred, which several of
them did anyway, But you know that's not not a thing, right,

(49:25):
don't encourage them. Nobody wants their guys to go out there.
Nobody wants someone to go get hurt pitching in the
future's game. And if everyone's trying to throw a hundred,
someone eventually going to get hurt by doing something stupid.

Speaker 1 (49:35):
Chris Crawford in for in Forness, talking to my good
buddy Keith Law. Lazarro Montes and Michael Arroyo get promoted
to TRIPA A mixed results so far from Montes, he
struggled a little bit at that. No mixed results isn't
even right. But there's only twenty seven at bats, so
I'm not going to get too concerned about that. Michael
Arroyo has performed really well, and so I'll use confirmation

(49:57):
bias and say Michael Arroyo is a really good possib
people based on what he's done in those six games,
which one of those guys could help the Mariners most
in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 3 (50:07):
I feel like I have a much higher degree of confidence.
You know, Arroyo coming up and performing this year, Mantoza
is the higher ceiling. Arroyo actually come charge the better prospects.
They just took, like a better confidence he's going to hit. Honestly,
Mantas obviously has the huge ceilings on pace for close
to fifty home runs this year, and yeah he could

(50:28):
do that. He came up for a week, he might
get a hold of a couple. But if he's up
for longer than that, I think pictures are going to
exploit it, because pictures in double A were exploiting It's
a pretty high strikeout rate. For Yeah, he's young for
the level, but still for hit or I think of
the caliber, who's got that speed, he's got strength. You know,
everyone wants into be the next year in Alvarez, and
he's pretty clearly not. You're never struck out at this

(50:50):
rate anywhere. But you know, to me, I might not
have promoted him, honestly, I might have said, you need
to think you're we need you to focus on more contact,
especially in the zelle. It's not a knock on his
ultimate heelings. But I find it hard to look at
the stat line and say, well, he really he's finished
with Double A, he's got nothing less to learn. Sure
he was, he got to his share home runs, but

(51:13):
the rest of the stat line is kind of concerning.
How about concerning? I don't want to say it's bad.
I don't want to say it's scary. So I'm not
trying to sound to some kind of alarm here. He's
a twenty one year old in double A. I just
think there's more more work for him to do. Was
a Royal is closer to being major League ready?

Speaker 1 (51:29):
I got to be honest, I was very surprised that
Mantes got the call. I wasn't surprised by a Royal
because after kind of a slower start, he's been really
good in Double A. And you know, just that the
profile of a guy who could as a potential just
even a bench bat or no Mariner fans hate this
term right now, a potential potential platoon bat as a
right handedator. I can see my producer I'm giving me

(51:51):
an ugly look, and I totally get it. We are
hearing about platoons. Hey, speaking of platoons, Keith. I got
to ask you about Dan Wilson because I don't know
if you remember this. I had you on probably a
month ago, maybe a month and a half, and we
talked about the start for the Mariners not being the best.
But and you're saying, probably not a reason to panic,

(52:14):
but you mentioned some concerns with Dan Wilson, and Dan
Wilson's concerns seem to have spread considerably, and there is
a lot of talk. And as a national guy, as
a guy who doesn't have a connection to Seattle, can
you tell us what the national perspective of Dan Wilson
as a manager is.

Speaker 3 (52:35):
I'll be honest, I don't think there's all that much
of one. And it's because it's Seattle, right, It's just
where the nets and I mean there's just a large
market bias and who gets coverage, right, not in favoring
certain teams, right that there's just I don't hear a
lot of talk about Dan Wilson. I mean, right now,
nobody's talking a lot about managers because we're deep up

(52:57):
and you know it's making a change. Also, there's always
the contingent of Yankee fans that want Aaron Boon fired.
Regardless of how they're doing or whether it's at all
part of the problem or the solution. They just exist.
But no, I can honestly say, I don't think I've
had anybody mentioned Wilson in a positive or negative context
in weeks. I don't think he's great at the practical stuff.

(53:19):
I can't speak to how he is in the clubhouse
and managing people. I do think there's some merit in
saying looking at a team and saying, hey, what are
they outperforming or underperforming? If they're run scored or they're
underlying stats, and yeah, I look at the Mariners of
the team that's underperformed. I also don't think Dan Wilson

(53:40):
is the reason kalorally has created when they've gotten so
little production from several of their major offensive contributors last year,
and firing him, not that you're suggesting this, for firing
him wouldn't change anything. Ultimately, the hitters got a hit,
and then Danielson is going to look like Genus Keith.

Speaker 1 (53:57):
La I got to ask you one more question. If
you were if you were Pobo Depoto, or if you
were justin Hollander, and you take a look at this
baseball team, right now, how active would you be on
the trade market.

Speaker 3 (54:13):
They're the best team on paper in the AOS. They
should be buyers, full stop, absolutely whatever, and there's multiple
ways they could potentially help this club. That's what they
should be doing. It is a maybe not everybody is available,
but you are pushing most of your chips into the center.
This division is so winnable. They are the best team
on paper, they have pitching star plus. I'm not trading

(54:36):
Kate Anderson. I'm probably not trading Ryan Sloan, but just
about anybody else might think would be available. Obviously, and
if I was getting Superstar, I'm not trading him for
a rental. I'm not trading them for true schoogle. Nothing.
The Marriners need another starter. But if you were getting
a difference maker and you had control beyond this year,

(54:56):
I'd at least be open to it, and they they
should be doing that. They should be trying to match
out this major league roster as much as possible because
eighty five wins might take that division and that is
well within reach for this Mariti shroster.

Speaker 1 (55:09):
If you would have given me the bad answer after
that hot dog thing, I don't know if I would
ever have you on again? To be honest with you, Keith, Yes,
I mean I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's going to
be fascinating to see what they do. And speaking of
what you do, tell everybody about what you do at
the athletic please and thank you.

Speaker 3 (55:27):
So I'm a national baseball writer. I cover prospects in
the draft, so my whole week has largely been writing
about the future game. And then I wrote up all
thirty teams draft classes, everybody in the top five rounds
and anybody of interest beyond that. So yesterday I had
to think of what day it was today. So on
Wednesday my Al West draft recaps went up.

Speaker 1 (55:49):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (55:49):
You can go there and see everything I have to
say about the players.

Speaker 1 (55:52):
The Mariners, Tuck awesome stuff, Keith. I'm sure I'll talk
to you soon and I'll be sending you via gold
Belly some Seattle hot dogs.

Speaker 3 (56:00):
Jesus Christ, lock you out every social media platform, you.

Speaker 1 (56:05):
And everyone else, my friend. Thanks so much again to Keith.
We will react to that and more. Sports Radio ninety

going to take a look at some British Open highlights.
I remember to do it because Anders gave me the sheet.

Speaker 4 (56:23):
Now back Dean Furness on your home for the Huskies
Cracking and The twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's
Closestn'll call me Casino and Hotel. On Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (56:38):
Chris Crawford in for I Forness. Thanks again to Keith
Law for joining us. Really interesting conversation. That guy, he
just knows a lot about everything, but his opinions on
hot dogs are garbage.

Speaker 2 (56:49):
Yeah, just Seattle dog is e eat. It's so good,
elite and Okay, the thing that got me, Yeah, who
hates cream cheese? I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (56:58):
I don't love it like I love it.

Speaker 4 (57:01):
So I like it.

Speaker 1 (57:02):
And my mom used to make this dip that she
called olet, which was cream cheese and green onions and
chili without beans and cheese that I just I grew
up on. In most of it, it was like seventy
five percent cream cheese. And I'm a big fan of
Costcos cheesecake, which is about ninety seven percent cream cheese,
So I get it from that. But you know, there's

(57:24):
a texture thing that some people don't love. They don't
love soft cheeses. But I'm just telling you, if you've
never had a Seattle dog and you don't have dietary
restrictions that keep you from eating it, try it. Just
just try it once. Don't don't. Don't be a hater
like Keith Laies. So I thought that conversation was interesting,
particularly I was glad and because Keith is a very

(57:46):
analytical guy. Sometimes they can have a tendency and I
put myself in this category two to be a someone
who plays things safe and would not be all in.

Speaker 4 (57:59):
Like.

Speaker 1 (57:59):
The fact team mentioned that Ryan Sloan could even possibly
be a trade candidate was surprising because that's a guy
he has as a top ten prospect in all of baseball,
and those guys just don't get moved anymore. Yeah, they
just don't. Last year we saw Leo Devreies move, which
was stunning. In the Mason Miller trade, some talk about
Mason Miller potentially being available, by the way, which is, oh, Seattle.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
Hey, if you want a true like something that you
absolutely need, Yeah, it would help your bullpen. Yeah, like probably,
I don't want to say affordable in terms of the
cost you want to give up, but more so than
like any other major bat that you can get it right.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
And that's the question. Will San Diego have the sucking
cost fallacy? And we'll talk about this more tomorrow because
we're gonna do the Nation League. But will they say,
because we gave up a guy who was ranked by
a lot of people as the number two prospect in baseball,
do we have to trade this guy for something that
is of that ilk You're not gonna get the number
two prospect in baseball because it's Leo Devree. Why would

(59:00):
Oakland make that trade? And yes, I said Oakland, and
I will continue to say Oakland, but I will be
curious to see what they do. So I'm looking at
the American League standings and they are depressing but also
kind of fascinating because Andrews, I look at this and
I see three teams that are not at all in
playoff contention, the Kansas City Royals, the Oakland Athletics, and

(59:26):
the Los Angeles Angels. Everybody else is within a shout
everybody else. And what is really made this trade market
interesting is how well Boston and Baltimore have played lately.
That's true because Boston has played themselves right back into
it and Baltimore. You know they I still am not
a believer in that team, But there are only a

(59:48):
couple of games out so and also, and here's where
this also is interesting. There's just not a lot of
interesting trade targets in the American League. The National League's
gonna so much more fun to watch. But I look
at these rosters, and I look at the Angels are
a disaster. They are such a bad baseball team, and

(01:00:11):
outside of one guy, I don't know how much interest
I have in any of these guys. Yeah, and that
one guy is unrealistic. Mike Trout is not getting traded
to the Seattle Mariners. It's just not going to get
at all. If the Philadelphia Phillies make a call, because
Mike Trout has a no move call, I always say
no move, that's not what it is in baseball. Has

(01:00:31):
a no trade cause justifiably so, for what he has
had to put up with with the Angels, I don't
think he would accept the majority of trades. I think
he is very happy in Los Angeles and he would
like to turn this thing back around. But if Philadelphia called,
I think it would be a different conversation because he
is such a part of the Philadelphia community that I

(01:00:55):
think that's a possibility.

Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
Yeah, I think. I think I agree with that, and
you definitely see that his fandom lies there. But I
agree with you. I think he is definitely comfortable in LA.
Maybe he doesn't like the pressure of winning all the time.
He just you know, plays baseball and that's an off season.

Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
You know, if that's what you want, good for you.

Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
But like it's frustrating because I want to see that.
I want to see him in the part you'll be
the best player of this generation or one of them?
I should say one of them, Yeah, play one postseason game,
you know, or series, I should say two games.

Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
I have an autographed card of Mike Trout and King
Goofy Junior that I stare at all the time because
it's just a both of them have well, Griffy's signature
is perfect and then Mike Trout has kind of a
unique one. But I mean, those are two huge parts
of me growing up a baseball fan, and I would
love to see Mike Trout not have what happened to
Griffy that he doesn't end up getting a championship. But

(01:01:48):
I look at that team and I don't see really
a match for Seattle. I look at the Athletics and
I really don't see a match for Seattle because that
is a team that is so much built for going forward.
The guys you'd be interested in the Athletics would say why,
why would we move this guy? Like I'd love to
try and get Nick Kurtz to come play for the
Seattle Mariners. I would love to see the Mariners go after.

(01:02:12):
You know, Shae lang E Leers wants to rotate with
Cal Rawlyly and be the DH slash catcher. That would
be a fun one to have, and especially as a
right handed hitter, I think that would be something. But
I don't really see a match there. Kansas City's a
little bit of an interesting one because you're not gonna
get Bobby Witt. They're not gonna trade Jacques kagleanon. But
I think there's some guys that you could potentially look

(01:02:34):
at here that could be a helper for the Mariners.
Mike hel Garcia, who has signed a contract extension, has
not been great this year. I do think would make
the Seattle Mariners better. I'd feel more comfortable with him
in their infield than some of the guys that they've
been playing. Vinnie Pasquantino was someone I was a big
fan of and just hasn't been able to put it together.

(01:02:58):
There's some pitchers like Michael Waka is an All Star,
which is ridiculous, and I understand that that's partially because
of the fact that, you know, they had to have one,
but they got two, didn't they did? They have Bobby
Wood and of course Michael Waka overload and Gilbert is
an absolutely indefensible decision by whoever made that decision. And
I know who made that decision, but I I just

(01:03:18):
don't get sometimes how these things work. Daniel Lynch would
be an interesting addition to the bullpen. But I look
at those three non contenders anders and I don't see
a hell of a lot of excitement for the Seattle
Mariners in terms of the potentially.

Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Yeah, list those teams again so I can kind of
in my head think the.

Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
Los Angeles Angels, Yeah, the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas
City Royals.

Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Pasquantino would be an interesting one. It's another lefty. Yeah, yeah,
I'm kind of with you. Maybe a couple of bullpen
stuff here and there. The other thing that a lot
of people think about is do you only look at
the non contenders as a trade target. There are teams
that will trade that are contending, Like the Mariners were

(01:04:05):
one of them in twenty twenty three when they traded
Paul Sewald to the Arizona Diamondbacks. They weren't full on
selling at that point. They were trying selling to buy
right so to speak, and they got them dom Canzone,
who is one of the best offensive players of the
team this year. So now there are you would have
to kind of do a win win sort of both

(01:04:25):
teams get something for right now situation, which I think
is actually more realistic than everyone's saying, Oh, just trade
the farm to go get one of those big guys,
right Baltimore and Boston are gonna be the big ones
that I'm looking at, because those those teams both have
some availability in if they were to kind of come

(01:04:46):
back down to earth. They've just been so hot lately
that it kind of has come at a really bad time.
I was looking at Wilson Contrera's or William ConTroll Wilson
Contrace Yeah, yeah, I get those neame mixed up all
the time. I think he would have been a perfect
edition to just slot in at DH he could play
first base. He could even emergency be made an emergency
catcher if you absolutely needed to. But again, just a
guy who hits lefties. That's the main thing you need.

Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
So we'll talk more about that. We'll talk about the Orioles.
We'll also talk about some guys for the Twins and
Tigers who could also make some sense. We'll also talk
a little bit of hockey. Two decks Sports Radio ninety

The Daily power Play is brought to you by.

The logist inventory of Kamoda Equipment in Kane County. Say
now your daily look at the National Hockey League and
the set with the Infanta play.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Let's talk some hockey, shall we do? Let's and our
good buddy Mike Benton was in for Greg today and
talking a bunch about some hockey stuff. The schedule comes
out today. That's always fun. It's not like the NFL
where you want to go all eighty four games now
Anders and go win loss win, loss, win, loss, But
it's always fun to see really interesting conversation that mister

(01:06:35):
Benton had with Bobby McMahon today. And you know, I
haven't had a really good chance to talk to you
about the decision to bring him back. Number one. I
think it's something they had to do. It felt like
a necessity after you make that trade. And also just
based on this free agency class being so mediocre and
so many guys getting and we can say this in hockey,

(01:06:56):
I think more than other sports where the cap is
such a hard cap, so overpaid, yeah, so overpaid, that
you had to be able to get a reasonable done
with McMahon. And I think bringing him back was an
absolute necessity.

Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Yeah, I don't think it was an absolute necessity for me.
I kind of go back and forth on this one
because in my opinion, just bringing Bobby McMahon back, and yes,
you trade for Matthew Samuskevitch as well, I do think
there is some intrigue with him. He's always been kind
of buried in the depth chart in Florida. But if
that's the big move you made, move from a team

(01:07:32):
that very much missed the playoffs by a significant margin,
severely underachieved, Sure, if that's the big move you made,
signing a guy that was already on your team, yeah,
then it's not enough me. So to me, you either
had to go one of two directions. You either had
to sign Bobby McMahon and bring in another big gun
if you're going for it, or you let him go

(01:07:55):
to somewhere else, let someone else overpay for him and
really reset lean into the youth movements have more spots
available for young guys to come up and get some
time cut their teeth, so to speak. So that's kind
of where I feel like, once again, the crack and
are doing this in between things. Sure, and I yes,
I would. I have liked them to go and sign

(01:08:18):
any of the free agents that were available, probably not
especially at the price that they were getting right, but
there weren't. There were trades available we've seen, we've seen
some of the other ones. Obviously, Brady could Chuck to
Florida's a big one. There's another, you know, I look
at the Trevor Ziegris trade last year to Philly was
kind of the exact erk that I want the Kraken

(01:08:39):
to go for sure. So that's that's kind of where
I had hoped they would take in that extra step
as well. Instead, they're just hoping for more development once
again from the guys within.

Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
That's a really good point. And you know, in a
cap league also, this isn't like the Mariners signing Donovan
Solano or Rob ref Schnyder, where it's like, Okay, the
moves because they are the only move becomes frustrating, right
It's they could still be good moves if you add
something to it. And I get it. They have tried.

(01:09:12):
They have tried. They have you know, the potential trade
for Paneren, the Jason Robertson situation, and I think there's
still a chance that there's something bigger that could be
help something. But at this point, I'm kind of done
with we tried, Like I need to see something here.
I need to see one of these moves actually happen.

(01:09:34):
Because we criticize the Mariners for it all the time.
They back in the day they leaked that they came
so close to siding. Do you remember Barry Zito, Yeah,
where they like he we tried really hard, we just
couldn't get it done. There was the leaking of the gosh,
it's just forgot Trevor's story that that deal was almost
done and they thought they were going to have him.

(01:09:55):
We tried only gets you so far. And I just
take a look at this division anders and I see
so many teams that either have generational talents, Yeah, like
San France, What San Francisco, What San Jose has in Macklin,
Celebrini and some other really good players, and what you
see Edmonton. As long as you got Connor McDavid, he

(01:10:15):
got a shot to do something pretty special. And there's
some you know Vancouver. By the way, Shane Wright might
be petty. I'm starting to get the idea.

Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Yeah, I think Shane.

Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
Wright might be a little bit petty in this situation. Boy,
it just doesn't look good. And I'll be honest with you,
it looks worse. And I don't know, Shane Wright. I
have nothing, no ill will towards him whatsoever. Staring at
you on YouTube, Shane Wright, I hope you're doing well,
but you don't look good in this situation right now,
and you need to talk to your representatives because you

(01:10:49):
come out looking like the bad guy in this. You
could have made it so that the Kraken look like
the team that's not giving you your shot. Now you
kind of look like you're just somebody who wants his
ball and to go home. And that's not a great look.

Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
And that's the idea that crack and haven't given them
a shot is just completely not true. It's not he's
had two years plus he has.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
If you wanted to do the Dan biosma. There were
issues where he I mean, we talked about it in
our text tread a lot that like why is he
only getting fourteen minutes? Why is he getting fourteen minutes?
I gotta be honest, I think he was getting like
fifteen sixteen most of the time this year, sitting along
those lines.

Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
And second power play units most of the time. And again,
you have to earn those minutes one.

Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
Thousand percent, right, You can argue in twenty four twenty
five he earned more minutes. He was one of their
most productive players, and I was super excited to see
what this dude could do going forward. He regressed, It happens,
he regressed, And that doesn't mean he can't turn into
a very solid middle six center, right Like, there's no

(01:11:55):
reason to think or even better, you know, he's young
enough that maybe he has that breakout. Sure to seventy five.

Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
Point yeah, not gonna be here, I don't think.

Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
But it's not going to be in Seattle. And that's
that's partially the Krakens fault, and that's a lot Shane's
Wright's fault. And I don't think Shane Wright is taking
enough blank for what's going on.

Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Totally agree. I think he just wants to get out.
He's trying to do whatever you can to do so.
But the thing is, when you do that, you kind
of screw the team that has you and doesn't give
you leverage and kind of makes them not want to
trade you at the end of the day because they're
not just going to give you up for nothing, right.
They spent a fourth overall pick on him. Yeah, So
it's it's not like they want to just get rid
of you off the team. It's like they want probably

(01:12:35):
want to move let's be completely honest. Sure, but they
they're not going to do it for nothing, right, And
that's probably your big piece, as we just mentioned, if
they are going to go do something and really add
to this team and change the ceiling or whatever, that's
the piece that you would give up to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
I think.

Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
So I don't know, man, I just there's a lot
of questions, and Ian would point out, you mentioned the
superstars on maybe Anaheim or San Jose, other people in
the Western Conference. It's pretty loaded. Ian would point out
that specifically in the San Jose conversations. Yes, they have
a maclin Celabrini, which the crack and don't have. But
the rest of that roster, every other position, you can

(01:13:11):
say the Cracking are better at goaltending, total defenseman depth scoring.
It's just you need that piece, we really do.

Speaker 1 (01:13:18):
And a lot of this is going to depend on
Stenberg with them as well. Like if he is that
floor guy that some people say, he is that guy
who's ready to go give you fifty five points or
so right now, then that's a huge addition to that
team because they don't need him to be a star, right,
they just need him to be a supplemental piece. Talking
about San Jose, San Jose, yeah, correct, Yeah, whereas the
Seattle Kraken, there's some questions. I still think about the

(01:13:41):
supplemental pieces too. Yeah, and there is definitely not a superstar.
Maybe the Mariners can go get one. We'll talk about
that next Sports Radio ninety three point three. Kid j rfim.

Chase Burns is usually what you're saying for somebody who's
in an ambulance, but he's also a really good pitcher.
An agreement on a seven year, one hundred and five
million dollar contract. Extension, and the NBA is investigating a
four year, sixty four million dollars deal between Gary Trent

(01:15:02):
Junior in the Milwaukee Bucks for possible salary cap salary
cap no salary cats or Cats circumvention. That contract really
doesn't make a lot of sense. But let's talk some mayors.

Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
Now back Dean Furness on your Home for the Huskies,
Kraken and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's
closest snow call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
So we've got MLB Network on in the background here,
and they just showed the top one hundred plays of
the twenty twenty sixth season. And guess what. The Seattle
Mariners are heavily involved with the number one play. Guess
what it's against them because the number one play, according
to MLB Network is three plays. Joe Adell robbing three

(01:15:52):
home runs, one of the worst defensive players in baseball
taking away three runs in just a encapsulation of the
Seattle Mariner season. Because it takes a good thing to
almost hit a home run. Anders it takes a really
good thing, Yes it does. And then it takes a really, really,
really good thing for the other team. And look, the

(01:16:14):
Mariners have dealt with a lot of stuff, the injuries,
they have dealt with, the huer performance underperformance. To be sure,
they've also been buoyed. I love that term by the
fact that the division sucks out loud and the American
League is not great. And we mentioned this before we
had to talk some hockey guys. But now we'll get
back to this baseball trade stuff because I mentioned that

(01:16:37):
there are a lot of teams that are still in contention.
There's still two weeks to go, plus some of these
teams are going to fall out, and some of these
teams are going to take the should we sell because
the chances of us making the postseason might be decent,
but our chances of doing anything in the postseason are
probably negligible. And do we really want to give up

(01:17:00):
stuff or turn down the ability ability to move stuff
in order to make us better? And the teams that
that qualifies for Boston, Baltimore, Minnesota, Detroit, and I'll throw
the Astros in there as well.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
I would say those teams are all in a very enviable.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Spot, and so everyone knows we're talking just American League today.

Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
Just American League. We're gonna do the National League, which
is a hell of a lot more fun because there's
some bad teams and then they're just some fits that
just really intrigue me, some really intriguing fits. But there's
some intriguing fits if we add in these teams as well.
You stole Wilson Contreres for me, and I'm not happy
about it. Sorry, No, it's it's It just makes a

(01:17:46):
ton of sense. It makes a ton of sense. Now,
Wilson Contreras does have a no trade class, so he
can control where he wants to go. He waived it
once to move from Saint Louis to Boston. Would he
wave it again to go to Sea I think he
probably would. That also could lead to if things go well,
talking about a potential contract extension. Now, is Wilson contrere

(01:18:10):
is a perfect fit for the current mayor and a roster. No,
he's a perfect fit for the lineup. But because of
where he plays catcher, first base, DNH, the Marriors have
a lot of bodies there. So here's the thing, though,
who's saying you can't move some of those bodies along
with it? And potentially in a trade you take a

(01:18:34):
look at player like Luke Rayley, I would have no
problem moving him in a Wilson Contreras trade. In fact,
I wouldn't have a problem moving Luke Raley altogether. And
this is not me being a Luke real hailer. I
think everyone knows though I do have some issues with me,
but I really like him and I love the I

(01:18:55):
love the Spurts, but there are issues. He's not a
great defensive player. To say he can't hit left handers
is to say that I'm not going to be a
victorious Secret swimsuit model. He just has major He'll never
be able to do it. Dom Canzone has figured it
out a little bit. Luke Raley can't. He just doesn't
pick up the baseball well enough. And it's there's a

(01:19:19):
song by ryle O Kylie that goes sometimes when you're on,
you're really blanking on and your friends all sing along
and they love you, but the lows are so extreme,
Yeah that the good seems you know what cheap, and
it teases you for weeks and it's absence. Now that
song is not about baseball, but it kind of applies
for Luke Raley because when he's hot, he's hot. He's

(01:19:42):
one of the reasons why I do believe that the
hot hand fallacy is not a complete fallacy, because when
he's so good, he's so good, and what it's bad,
it's bad. I would move a Luke Rayley in order
to get a Wilson Contreras. And I would move a
Luke Rayley to go get the guy who's number one
on my board for a long freaking time, and it's

(01:20:03):
Byron Buxton. Yeah, I would move him in a heartbeat
for a Byron Buxton. And Byron Buckston doesn't want to
get trade. Byron Buxton wants to remain a Minnesota Twin.
The Minnesota Twins should think about themselves as well as
Buckston and the fact that they could go get this
guy a chance to contend for a championship.

Speaker 2 (01:20:23):
Does he have a no trade clause?

Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
I believe that he does not have a no trade
clause because he don't. I don't think he's reached ten
five yet. But he is the type of guy that
I think you he just makes so much sense. I
know the injury history, and the injury history it's long.
It's as long as any player in baseball. It's frustrating
because he's one of those guys that will look back

(01:20:47):
at no matter how well he ends.

Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
He has a full no trade claw.

Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
He does have a full note trade clause.

Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
I think next year it becomes a five team trade list.
Oh interesting, so that becomes that's next year. Though, that's
next year, and you know you to talk about that,
But I don't want to talk about next year. I
want to talk about this year. I'd be doing what
I could to go get a guy like that, Yeah,
I would. I just think he makes so much sense
for the Seattle Mariners.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
So number one on my board would be Byron Buxton
and number two I think would be Wilson Contreras.

Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Then we start talking to First of all, we have
to have the Schoogle conversation. Okay, Detroit has played themselves
back into it. Have they played it back into it
or has just everyone else been so crappy that they're
still well.

Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
I mean, if you're saying that about Detroit, who has
almost the exact same record as the Mariners, to it's true.
We can't say one team's in it and one teams
out of it.

Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
It's true. Other than the fact that Detroit is six
and a half back of the division and Shattle is
a game and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
But it's not just about the division, No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
It's the You do have the wild card standings and
Seattle at forty eight and forty nine, Detroit at forty
four and fifty two. There's not a huge difference there whatsoever.

Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
Oh sorry, I thought it was for I was looking
at the twenty fours.

Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
But it's still close enough that everything you say standing say,
we won't have to talk about, you know, other stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
Yeah, I was looking at the Detroit roster while you
were talking Bryan Buxton there, I don't really see much,
especially in the lineup side of things, like obviously you're
looking at Carry Carpenter who turns into Barry Bonds, but
it's another guy who, wait for it, can hit left
handed pitching right.

Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
It's true, it's true. He is extreme platoon. Yes, and
how well that plays in the park. Now we have
seen him play pretty well in the park. Yeah, but
there's a question mark there. I will just say this,
if the Seattle Mariners could go get to Reschooball without
giving up Kate Anderson or Ryan Sloan, I would do it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
What about my one for one in the off season?
Would you still take it now, Logan Gilbert for Church
schoobl one for one.

Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
Boy, Uh yeah, yeah, I think I know it too.
I would. And it's not an insult to Gilbert. Nope,
it's just having that ace for a postseason.

Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
So we just talked about it earlier, right, Yeah, the
Mayriors don't.

Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Really have one, don't And you know you can win
with that one, you know, but it's harder. Yeah, it's
a lot of it's really hard. And people point to
the fact that the Mariners beat Scooble twice in the postseason. No,
they didn't. Maybe the Tigers beat the Tigers. They didn't
beat scoobl He was phenomenal and he he's as big

(01:23:30):
of a reason why they were even in the postseason
in the first place. If I could do it, I
would go do it now. I don't think it's realistic.
I don't think Seattle has any interesting giving up the
stuff that they need to go get him.

Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
I just feel like, again, I mean, he's the same
logic I did in the offseason. Sure, you trade a
year and a couple months of Gilbert for a couple
months of trek Scubel. Basically that limits we just talked about.
If you can only sign one long term, that takes
him out of the conversation. So theoretically you're not signing

(01:24:04):
him anyway. Sure right, That narrows it down to Kirby
Wu and Miller, and then you get an ACE for
this year. And I don't know, man, I don't think
you have to worry about extending him. Maybe maybe you
find a way to get it done, but I don't
see that happening. It would be just for this year.

Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
Well, and let me play Devil's advocate with the extension
real quick. If you are to reach Schooble, there is
some motivation to get a contract extension done before this
CBA runs out.

Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
Good point. That's a good point because.

Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
You don't want to have those potential rules. And for
those who missed it, MLB is proposing contract limits of
five years, and I believe contract total value of two
hundred million. I believe it could be less than that,
but it's it's smaller. Yeah, it's certainly smaller. Whereas if
Tariek Schooble enders free agency, we're talking about one of

(01:25:01):
the biggest pitching probably the biggest pitching contract of all
time and justifiably so. Justifiably so.

Speaker 2 (01:25:08):
And I think a lot of people were thinking going
into the season, and just in terms of just ability
between him and Paul Skeans, it was very even, very even.
He has started to separate himself, yeah, a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:25:17):
He's phenomenal. And the fact that he has a little
bit of a Seattle tie played in college.

Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
There the RedHawks.

Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Fair enough, fair enough. I just think it's something that
I don't think the Mariners are willing to do. But
I'm disappointed the Mariners aren't willing to do it now
looking at some Toronto's interesting because I feel like Toronto
feels the same way that Seattle does. That they are
there's pressure here and I would imagine they're going to

(01:25:46):
make some moves here to make they are they are.
It's just, you know, I think Vladimir Guerrera Junior is
going to be a lot better in the second half.
You know, made the right decision not to participate in
the All Star Game to get that back healthy. I
can't see it there. Baltimore, I see as a much
more realistic team to trade way and there is somebody here,

(01:26:07):
and I can't say it's an original idea. I know
Jeff Passing posted it. Taylor Ward as a guy who
hit thirty six homers last year, who has a three
eighty seven on base percentage this year, has not hit
for the same type of power. It's been interesting to say,
and it can't be It can't just completely be blamed
on what they call Waltimore anymore, because that's not that's

(01:26:28):
not the issue. Also, a guy who's killed the Mariners
in the past, and be nice to keep him away
from doing that. Also, a guy I don't think would
cost very much either.

Speaker 2 (01:26:40):
So if you're looking at the platoons, Yeah, does a
lot better versus lefties than.

Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
Right crushed left handed pitching and still be.

Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
Okay. He can play every day.

Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
He's usable guests race. By the way, another one for
Kansas City that I was thinking about, Lane Thomas, a
guy who has crushed lefties in the past. Yeah, but
I understand fans fans of the Mariners, not me, but
fans of me too. There's like seven of them. I
understand that you have been saying you've been burnt by

(01:27:13):
the platoon stuff is the understatement of understatements. But you
can't completely ignore it, right, because watch Luke Raley when
he stays in to hit against the lefty. Watch it
tell me that there wouldn't be a better option there.
And yeah, Rob Reschneider had a big history of hitting
lefties and then he just didn't do it. Donovan Solano

(01:27:36):
had a history of hitting lefties and he just didn't
do it. Yeah, there are guys like Christinorfia and other
players that the Mariners have added. Yeah, I no, that
just haven't worked out. I don't think that means that
you have to stop trying. In fact, I would argue
it means you have to try even harder to find
these guys. And I think Taylor Ward would make him

(01:27:58):
a better baseball team.

Speaker 2 (01:27:59):
I think I have a good text here. Okay, I
agree with you on Taylor the word by the way,
Sorry I didn't that's okay. Four to five. And I
kind of thought about this too, And I was looking
through the rosters. What about something like Royce Lewis, little little, Yeah,
take a shot in the dark. There, Sure a super
highly tied prospect having a down year. Sure can play
every day at third base, which we need, and a

(01:28:22):
right handed better So I.

Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
Think that's a great shout out four two five. That's
a really good text and it's a really good suggestion.
I would say it's a better suggestion for the off
season than a guy you're adding this year, just because
that might be something there you want to rework swing stuff.
You want to get him healthy. And unfortunately Lewis and
Byron Buxton both have had massive injury issues. And you know,

(01:28:48):
as we are again, where in the world is Brandon Donovan.
We finally answered that question that he's playing in rehab games.
But health is a bit of a skill. It's not
the skill that I think some people think there's bad
luck with injury stuff. But if you keep asking guys
who are injury prone to not be shame on you
a little bit. Yeah, right, shame on you a little bit.

(01:29:10):
So I think Roys Lewis is a really good idea,
but probably a better idea for twenty twenty seven. Some
bullpen additions that are guys on those teams that you
could think about, right, Hellsley unfortunately hurt and didn't pitch
great after coming back from his recent injury. Maybe something
you can explore. Baltimore has a couple of relievers. I

(01:29:31):
think that you could be looking at Yeps Kansas City,
Yenni er Cano, Kansas City has some guys that I
think you could look at as well. You're not, I think,
looking to get that eighth or ninth inning arm. I
feel okay in that area if you can get one.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
It depends on how you feel about munnos.

Speaker 1 (01:29:50):
But yes, I see, I feel fine about mood. Yes,
I feel fine, but I probably do too. Yes, Now,
eighth inning, it's a little more of a question mark.

Speaker 2 (01:29:59):
Right yeause I like their back end guys. It's kind
of a bi committee. I just want to add depth.
I want to make it so there's no option to
have a low leverage reliever coming in a high leverage
reliever situation, because we know Dan Wilson loves to do that.
So make it sure, make it not even a possibility.

Speaker 1 (01:30:14):
By the way, watching Casey Legomina close out that game
the other day, just like so poetic, so poetic. You
have to get another arm. I mean, you have to
get another bullpen arm. There's just not there's no It
would be inexcusable to not add, even if it's a
guy that is you use in the sixth or seventh inn. Yeah,

(01:30:37):
that's a name that makes a ton of sense, a
bit of a revitalization too. He's had some funny comments too,
about like because there was a thing where he hit
somebody and they were like, did you mean to do it?
He goes, no, I just suck look at my ur
Yeah it was good. I'm not you know. You like
to add some personality too. I feel good about the
lefties in the bullpen. I feel good about Ferrara Inspire,

(01:30:58):
even though spires a little bit of down right now.
I think that's more a case of sometimes I think
Mariner fans believe that relievers are supposed to have an
era of zero point zero zero. And by the way,
I'm just looking at this Lance mcculler's trade, by the way,
and they Houston is an interesting one to me. What

(01:31:19):
if Jeremy Paine is available? How why selling high? The
Houston Astros have believed in this for a long time,
and I wouldn't do it. You don't think you would
do it? Is it just because he couldn't picture Jeremy
Painey of like exhorret stuff for the Mariners.

Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
Well that and you have a shortstop for the future.

Speaker 1 (01:31:36):
I think you do too. But I will say this,
even if it helps you this year US stop gap
for putting, it will not be a failure of cult
Emerson goes to the miners because you go get another shortstop.
It will be a failure if you move Jp Crawford
to shortstop for cult Emerson. I will literally not allow

(01:31:58):
ian forness on the air if that happens.

Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
If they.

Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
You will see me, Walter Jones, I furness out of
this chair because I'm going to do three hours of
talking about how big of a mistake that would be.
Why do you think it's a mistake Because he's the
worst freaking short defensive shortstop in baseball. It's so bad
he cannot do it.

Speaker 2 (01:32:20):
So even if it's the right thing to move Emerson
down right, which it might be, it might be, it
might be, do you think it is?

Speaker 1 (01:32:27):
No, not yet. I give him. I give him just
a little more time. I give him to the deadline.
I give him to the deadline. And I've seen just
enough spurts, just enough spurts. And again, not a failure.
If Colt Emerson isn't ready to be a three wins
shortstop right now, not a failure. But a lot of

(01:32:47):
talk about the Randy Rose Arena trading stuff as well.
I mean, the only way I'm doing it is if
it makes you better for twenty twenty six. And I
just don't see a Randy A. Rose Arena trade that
makes you better for twenty twenty s Now.

Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
I understand the people that are kind of come in
the arguments and say, like, hey, if it's a it's
a culture change. You see what he did in those
last couple of games in Tampa, and you know you
trade him that sends a message all that stuff. I
just yes, but also no, I think there's more issues
than just Randy Rose Arena. And in terms of like

(01:33:24):
the focus topic around the Mariners this year, Yes, he's
kind of a poster child for it, but he's always
been that way. Sure, yeah, so, and he's been your
best offensive player this year, So that's the big thing.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
React to your text. Next Sports Radio ninety three point
three kids a RFM.

Speaker 4 (01:33:42):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and the twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest Snow Call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
So Anders and I were just talking. This is Chris Crawford,
by the way, and free inf neess. HI appreciate everybody
who is tuned in. This is always fun. I will
be back tomorrow, which will be a lot of fun.
We'll talk about the National League trade candidates, We'll talk
about some other fun stuff. I tabled my Seahawk conversation
because I want to make sure we have enough time
to do it.

Speaker 2 (01:34:17):
We'll do We'll get into that extensively tomorrow because I
think it goes beyond just the fans. Yes, considering the
Super Bowl champions and the NFL Top one hundred lists.

Speaker 1 (01:34:28):
Oh okay, yeah, we'll talk a lot about that because
I have not got a chance to see that.

Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
Just oh oh my god. You need to look at
it when you get otway cannot wait. Goes into the
exact narrative that you're going.

Speaker 1 (01:34:38):
Doom scrolling is going to be fun. Let's take a
look at some texts.

Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
Let's do it three six oh kind of along the
lines that we are we're talking about. Right before the
end of the break there, I saw a couple of
Seattle pages say that they're floating the idea of trading
at Randy Rose Arena. Why this and do the Mariners
management leak that out to reporters. It's certainly possible. Now,

(01:35:06):
the Mariners are usually a pretty tight vested group. I
think I said that wrong, But you guys know what
I'm saying that they are. They tighten it and they
play it close to the chest. I just conflated two things.
I went to public school.

Speaker 1 (01:35:23):
I just have my doubts. But I will say this, man,
that effort on Saturday and Sunday was just it's inexcusable, man.
And I just kind of wonder how happy Randy is.
To be honest, now, I look pretty happy after he
hit that home run and he was playing the baseline,
you know, and he has been their most consistent offensive

(01:35:43):
player by a long shot, and you would probably be
taking a step back if you trade him unless you're
getting like something really, really good. And I just don't
know what makes sense here. But as for whether or
not it would be possible, whether or not they would
be leaking that, sure, I just I.

Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
Go to the same logic that I've always said with
Luis Castillo. I believe Luis Castillo has more value to
the Mariners than he does in the trade market.

Speaker 1 (01:36:10):
Entirely possible. It's just there's a couple of teams in
the NL Central that have just been decimated with injuries
to their starting rotation that it changes a little bit
because the high floor of Castillo. Knowing that the contract
well Hi is not in Albatroz, there could be something there.

(01:36:31):
Recent text here from two five to three, can you
please look at what a trade for young Hu Lee
from the Giants would look like. I think you'd be
a tremendous lead off hitter for our team. I'll just
tell you right now that is one I will definitely
be talking about tomorrow. Oh but I do like it.
I do like it. It's it's not a perfect fit
because of the left handedness, but.

Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
He's sort of platoon proof.

Speaker 1 (01:36:54):
Yeah, I think well because of the contact, right, yes,
because of and you know there's major power concerns there.
But I think it makes sense. I'm going to have
somebody on to talk about the Giants by the way tomorrow,
because I think the Seattle Mariners. The only team I
can say.

Speaker 2 (01:37:11):
Is truly more.

Speaker 1 (01:37:14):
Disfunctional ish right now is the San Francisco Giants. Man,
they are a disaster and you need to win this series.

Speaker 2 (01:37:23):
Oh do you need to do you switch managers with
the Giants.

Speaker 1 (01:37:27):
No, No, Videello is a disaster. The fact that he
has a job right now is I don't think Buster
Posey or Joe Vidello should have the jobs that they do.
That being said, if you want to hire me, I
am willing to go work for you. We talked a
lot about the World Cup text year from the three
six l Watching the World Cup at a local watering

(01:37:48):
hole has been very fun, non soccer folks asking questions
about the game and actually getting it and learning about
the EPL. I think that's exactly what I was hoping for. Yeah,
that's exactly what I was hoping for, because this is
what the game can do, and I want the game
to keep growing. I'm not asking for it to use

(01:38:09):
surp basketball or football or baseball. I'm asking for it
to continue on the growth so that being a top
sixteen team isn't good enough anymore where we can have
realistic expectations. Because I'm just gonna be honest with you, Andrews,
this was their best chance of doing something.

Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
Yeah for a while, this was their best team that
they've had in my lifetime.

Speaker 1 (01:38:29):
And having the home field advantage matters.

Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
And probably the best manager they've had as well.

Speaker 1 (01:38:34):
Absolutely a lot of text about that. This is interesting too,
also from the three six, So, coming off World Cup
in our own country, why is the Sounders game tonight
not a nationally televised event? We need to roll with
the soccer momentum growth with the biggest rivalry in MLS.

Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
Totally agree, I do accept. I kind of get on
MLS for this scheduling mishap because for me, at least
as a sports fan, when I watch things, I usually
go in like phases, you know what I mean, And
having a big MLS game come right after the World
Cup semifinals feels a little like, oh wait, there's MLS

(01:39:11):
kind of going on. I'm still mentally focused on the
World Cup, you know what I mean? And maybe that's
me being totally bought into the World Cup. No, but
like it, put that game after the World Cup final, like.

Speaker 1 (01:39:22):
Maybe a week after. That's a great point.

Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
If this was like Sounders versus Real Salt Lake, Like fine, okay,
I know you got to get your season back on
going before it ends, right, but putting this game while
the World Cup is still going on is a big,
big question mark for me, I don't know, No, that's
just me.

Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
I totally agree. I agree with everything you said, and
I'm uncomfortable with how.

Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
Much Marcus and the two six says it was on
Peacock and Better because it was Spanish announcers talking about
the World Cup. I still won't watch the MLS, but
I'll be watching EPL matches. Yeah, so you can find
EPL matches obviously on Peacock and NBC as well. So
that's kind of the I was talking about before. Marcus.
I know you're a huge baseball guy. You texted all
the time asking about Mariner stuff. But I'm happy to

(01:40:06):
see you have at least somewhat more of an interest
in soccer after the World Cup. Having those superstars that
play in England and France and Spain and Germany and
all that stuff, How much of it has really interested you?
To watch Earl Alland play for Manchester City now, to
watch Kilian and Bape play for Real Madrid, to watch,
you know, all those big players play at their big clubs.

(01:40:27):
So that's gonna be the effect that I'm looking for,
less so than the MLS side of things.

Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
It's totally fair, it's totally fair. I just want to
see it grow, That's all I'm asking, and it's because
I just need to sell a lot of soccer cards
to get out of debt. Marcus also said I've watched
All Star games with Griffy and Garrett Anderson. Also they're
derbies along with cal but it's not something i'll watch.
It was the best for the longest time, but now

(01:40:53):
it's time to get rid of All Star games in
every sport. Honestly, that's what I would do too, is
I would have maybe a couple of fun of and
keep the home run Derby I always thought a really
fun one, but it would be such an injury risk.
Would be best catchers versus best stolen base guys to
have some sort of competition there, Like, Yeah, I think

(01:41:13):
it would be fun to watch, but it would be
just a logistical nightmare. But I think at this point
it's just hey, you're an a Hey, now you're an
All Star. To quote our good friends smash Mouth, get
the award, get the NOD, take a couple of days off,
get better, And because this just isn't great TV, I'll

(01:41:34):
just tell you this much. It ain't going anywhere. Fox
pays a lot of money for that stuff, and they
are not going to just let you get away with that.
I meant to mention this earlier Netflix. I know you're
new to this. You got to get better. You've got
to get better the home run derby, which I thought
was fantastic, by the way, and this is absolutely the

(01:41:56):
format that should be going forward. I can actually tell
when home runs go and I you don't worry about
a guy getting so tired afterwards. It becomes nonsense. But
and you know what, I'm a huge Will Ferrell fan.
That was so hard to watch for those who missed it. Yeah,
him doing the introductions and stuff, and I get it.
They were trying to play off the semi pro thing.

(01:42:18):
And that's one of my favorite Will Ferreo moments. I
think about him saying, she clan she wants to be
an astronaut. I don't think she could do it. I
think about that line constantly because it just cracks me
up so much. But there's a time and to play,
and they're just their coverage overall that you can tell
they're trying. You can tell that they've made some financial
effort into it. They gotta get better, Yeah, because they're

(01:42:41):
gonna keep getting more and more stuff, and I need
the I need the presentation to be better than it is.

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
Yeah. Two six, Is there a way to emphasize some
pressure on to Poto? He deflects a lot of negative attention.
And at this point it's how slash what will Jerry do?
And how slash what jered? What did Jerry do? He
always does minimum, usually too late, and after everyone has
has asked him to do it. The bad decisions are

(01:43:08):
his usually, and he deflects pressure needs to be more meaningful.
He doesn't really have competition for his job. So really,
just like, is there any reality in which Jerry Depoto
feels pressure for his job in the next reasonable future.

Speaker 1 (01:43:22):
I don't think so. I don't think so, and I
will give Jerry to Poto this like the Seattle Mariners
have been super aggressive at the trade deadline the last
couple of years. This is not a case of we tried.
They went out and got into two best bats last year,
and they got the best bat the year before that.
So they've done stuff. They've added to the bullpen, they

(01:43:43):
have made supplemental moves. My more issue is what they
have not done in the off season. Yeah, like, that's
my biggest issue. But here's the thing, guys, Jerry Depoto
has put himself. Kevin Shockey might made this point a
long time ago. It's put himself in a perfect position.

Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
Yeah, and almost even more so now at Dan Wilson
as the manager, because you have someone who has questionable credentials, yeah,
and makes mistakes in big moments and all the attention
goes to him instead of what the roster construction looks like. Right,
And that wasn't necessarily the case when Scott Service was
been managing the team.

Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Real quick four one zero NHL four Nations was the
best all star format releaser years thousand percent. Yeah, it's
a great point. And that's you know. I brought this
up with Ian last year. That's what I would love
to see is baseball turn the World Baseball Classic into
something where every four years you play the World Baseball Classic.
Every two years you do something where you have the

(01:44:40):
best players from the United States, the Dominican Republic, Japan.
I always struggle with what I would like the fourth
country to be. It was Cuba for a while, but
they've fallen on kind of hard times a little bit.
Maybe you rotate. We have a tournament Venezuela differently j Absolutely, yeah, absolutely,
something where you have something like that and just have

(01:45:01):
a couple of days of baseball there. That's what I
would do. Can't do it every year because it would
lose its luster, but we get tired of everything.

Speaker 2 (01:45:08):
I agree, and I do think that having the World
Baseball Classic in general during the middle of the season
is better than having it right before the season.

Speaker 1 (01:45:16):
A thousand percent agreed, other than the fact that MLB
is just never gonna let it happen. You know what
never should have been happened by someone allowing me to
talk to Dick Fane. But I'm gonna do it anyway.
Sports Radio ninety three point three kids a RFM, Chris

(01:45:38):
Crawford and Free in for Neess and joining me now
is man, we've known each other for quite some time now,
haven't we?

Speaker 6 (01:45:45):
How long has it been?

Speaker 1 (01:45:46):
Man, I've been well, Molly Watt Monday started in twenty
twenty one, but I've been coming on kjr R. It
feels like since way too long. It makes me feel
too ten years right, good amount, good amount, and uh
most of them quite quite good. You know, there was
a long time where you just you couldn't respect me.
And I understand that, but now I am it was

(01:46:07):
it was a.

Speaker 5 (01:46:08):
Respect thing, it was a it was a disagreement thing.
It wasn't a respect thing at all. No, And uh,
you know, it turns out recently, though, we have been
more simpotical, I would say over the last year, probably
since the beginning when the Mary when I first turned,
because I was a the Poto lover, sure in comparison

(01:46:29):
to most.

Speaker 6 (01:46:30):
And I still think he's done a very good job
of building this franchise.

Speaker 5 (01:46:33):
However, when when he didn't do anything at the pre
twenty twenty five sure, I was like, come on, man,
did you yes the Donovans, which did you really just
pull the wool over our eyes and get us to
the precipice? And then yet they you know, but he
does it at the He does it at the trade deadline,
and he's done it at the trade deadline multiple times,

(01:46:54):
and I am counting on him to do it at
the trade deadline again this year. And you were talking
about some of the name I agree with. I agree
with both names you're throwing. I'd probably have busing and
contraras is my number one and number.

Speaker 1 (01:47:03):
Two as well. Yeah, and it's it's gonna be hard.
And I don't know if you saw this, and maybe
you want to talk about this during your show today,
but did you see his comments to the Seattle yesterday? Yes,
I did. The best players we can acquire are the players.
That's true. Boy, that's a tough one. I also think
we overrate Like what a GM says, what do you

(01:47:23):
expect him to say? Right, Like we guarantee we're gonna
go get these two players or something like that.

Speaker 3 (01:47:28):
Right.

Speaker 5 (01:47:28):
I think most years I would have read that and gone,
oh my god, but this year because our stars are
so crappy, Like, he's exactly right.

Speaker 2 (01:47:37):
It's true, there's a difference between him being right but
also not saying that. Yeah, I mean, yes, the same thing.

Speaker 1 (01:47:45):
Oh yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 4 (01:47:46):
True.

Speaker 5 (01:47:46):
I just think that he was I mean, we're looking
right at cal Raley, right, I mean, that's what we're
looking at. And basically what he's saying is sorry, but
we're not going to get a hit or as good
as cal Rawley right at the trade deadline.

Speaker 6 (01:47:57):
So cal Rawley needs to be right.

Speaker 2 (01:48:01):
But fans take that as saying like, Okay, that means
you're not going to add anything at the deadline, right right.

Speaker 5 (01:48:06):
But I think he said enough, at least he said
enough to me in that interview that made me think
that he was going to attempt to add a legitimate
right handed bat at the trade deadline. I mean he said, well,
let's see, he said, would be unusual to trade for
a major guiroster in a position we are to answer
other problems.

Speaker 6 (01:48:23):
But it's not out of the question.

Speaker 1 (01:48:26):
Oh here we go.

Speaker 5 (01:48:26):
Definitely going to help the bullpen, and we'd like to
resolve our clear flaw for facing left handed pitching.

Speaker 6 (01:48:31):
Sure, I mean that tells me he's going to get
a right dead better right, I.

Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Would say so. I would also say that is also
a manage your expectations. There are so many teams that
are in this right now, right, like I would anders
and I went over the list that there are three
teams in the American League who are out of it.
It's Kansas City Oakland to which I'm going to keep
calling until I'm dead, and the Los Angeles Angels. And

(01:48:55):
there's just not a lot that you would win from
those teams.

Speaker 4 (01:48:58):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
Baltimore is still technically in it. Boston has definitely played
themselves back into it, So who knows if Wilson Contreres
will actually be available? Right the al Central everybody except
for the Royals are still in this thing. It makes
it difficult because what this third wild Card has done
is it's made It's made it possible for teams to

(01:49:18):
go get players, but it's also made teams say, we
got to hang on to guys until the very last moment,
because if we can get into this thing, who the
hell knows what's going to happen.

Speaker 5 (01:49:29):
We got a few extra days because it's not till
August third, right this year's because of the weekend, I think.
So okay, So, I mean there gives Necks an extra
seventy two hours that you don't normally have before the deadline.

Speaker 6 (01:49:40):
That's an extra series.

Speaker 5 (01:49:42):
Sure, it's an extra series deep into the season that
you can see who's in and who's out. But I
think you're right about the teams that you mentioned.

Speaker 6 (01:49:49):
Some of those teams.

Speaker 5 (01:49:50):
I think that the Orioles are going to be falling
out of this thing. I think the Astros are going
to be falling out of this thing. The Twins very
well could be fallen out of this thing. I mean,
there those are teams. I mean, those are teams that
right now have anywhere between a twenty and twenty five
percent chance of making the playoffs, right, and if they
slide even just a little bit over the next two weeks,
that twenty five percent is going to become twelve and

(01:50:13):
you need you need to hang it up if you're
a twelve percent chance to make the playoffs in August.

Speaker 1 (01:50:17):
And the other thing too is those teams are gonna
play each other, right, so they're gonna kind of knock
each other out a little bit over these next few weeks.

Speaker 5 (01:50:24):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:50:25):
That's another thing here too, is that, boy, the Seattle
Mariners schedule coming up is a gauntlet. Like you know,
they play probably the most dysfunctional team in baseball right now,
in the San Francisco Giants, So you know, you feel
good about that. After that, things get really tough here.
And my personal thought is, yeah, I'd be nice to
kind of wait this out, but I want to have

(01:50:46):
my best roster possible for these games coming up, too,
Like I want to make sure that I have that
right handed reinforcement and especially another bullpen arm because to me,
that's the one that's the most And you know, they
mentioned it that, like, hey, we are definitely going to
look to acquire a piece to this bullpen. There's no
excuse to have Michael Rucker and Nick de Villa and
these guys pitching in these games right now. There's just

(01:51:08):
not Tomer and you don't like.

Speaker 2 (01:51:12):
I like that reference. Let me just read through the
Mariner's schedule coming out of the buck three against the Giants, Reds,
but then Texas Dodgers, Twins, Tigers, So a little bit
of soft spot there, Rays, Yankees, Astros, Brewers, Cubs, Phillies,

(01:51:34):
Blue Jays.

Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
It's tough.

Speaker 5 (01:51:36):
Well, how many those teams are actually more talented than Seattle, Dodgers,
Yankees all start there, Brewers debatable, but yeah, but on
but for the most part, you name like ten teams
like the Mariners are probably third on that list in talent.

Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
So we should be able to.

Speaker 6 (01:51:51):
Win those games. All we got to do is not
play like the slubs we've been playing like for the
last three months.

Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
Is that Dan Wilson's fault.

Speaker 5 (01:51:59):
I think it's largely Dan Wilson's fault. I got to
put a lot of the onus on the players, but sure,
the sense of urgency for me goes across the board.
It's players, it's manager, it's across the board. And when
we're seeing guys walk after balls down the left field
line and we're seeing Josh Naylor do whatever Josh Naylor's
doing at first base, whether it's whether it's fielding a ball,

(01:52:22):
whether it's trying to throw to second base from first,
whether it's trying to pitch the ball to a pitcher
covering first and.

Speaker 6 (01:52:29):
It goes like bounces twice or goes over the pitcher's head.

Speaker 5 (01:52:32):
It's like, I don't even we didn't see any of
that last year, in the last two months of the
season when he was here.

Speaker 1 (01:52:38):
And that's the thing I keep bringing up on Molly
Watt Monday, is they don't look like they're having fun.
And if you're not looking like you're having fun, at
least I would like to see like, you know, you're
super intense and you're focused, and you guys just make
all these plays. They're one of the least focused teams
I've ever seen, So he's not making a better in
that regard either. So it's gonna be an interesting few weeks.

(01:53:00):
I bet it's gonna be an interesting few hours here
for you what you gain.

Speaker 6 (01:53:02):
It's gonna be fun.

Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
We will.

Speaker 6 (01:53:04):
So Jackson Bevis is going to join us. Nice his
his bi yearly appearance.

Speaker 5 (01:53:08):
Usually I usually have him on once in February during
the MLB, S or NBA season. I got one on
in July, so we got a lot to get to talking. Uh,
you know, Sonics expansion, talking Seahawks. Of course, Jackson is
dialed in as anybody on the on the Seahawks. We'll
talk about the Mariners and the trade deadline. Brett Boone's
gonna join us at four o'clock today, Jerry Brewer at

(01:53:28):
five o'clock.

Speaker 6 (01:53:29):
And Flage Johnson. We mentioned you were gonna get her
card ass.

Speaker 1 (01:53:34):
Out right, you better believe I'm gonna be loading up
on flag for sure.

Speaker 6 (01:53:37):
Who has the I would?

Speaker 5 (01:53:39):
I believe she's got the most Instagram followers of any
athlete in Seattle.

Speaker 6 (01:53:43):
That's great, one point five million.

Speaker 1 (01:53:46):
Good for her. Yeah, I love watching her play. Hope
they get some more wins down the stretch here.

Speaker 6 (01:53:51):
But yeah, but you know, if they don't, there's really
good draft ju Ju Watkins.

Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
Yeah right, I'll be back tomorrow. Thanks again, Guy, Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ

Speaker 5 (01:54:01):
