Speaker 1 (00:00):
We've got a jam Pack show today, which is funny
because yesterday is one of the deadest sports days of
the year.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
We did have a baseball game.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
I totally forgot there was a baseball game between the
Phillies and the Mets. Mets getting the four to one
victory in a game that I think a lot of
people completely forgot about. And you know, I think the
Phillies and Mets, it's an interesting story of one team
on the rise, one on the decline. But the Mets
win that game. If you are interested, and you should be.
(00:30):
The Mariners begin their series tonight, and I'm just gonna
tell you, I feel like this is a massive start
to the second half because that one in five road
trip was just so awful. It was so awful, and
you know, it was salvaged, I mean literally salvaged with
(00:50):
that Sunday game. You found some survivors in the reck
like with winning that game, because oho and six would
have been a disaster and also completely erased the five
and one home stand that you had previously.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
It would have been like.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Well, should have been six and zero, because now you're back.
Even now at least it's a it's it's five or
six and six, like, it's not ideal, but it could
be worse. But I feel like they have to get
off to a decent start here anders And it's not
so much just because of for the Mariners and where
they are.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
They're a game and.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
A half back of the game and a half back
of the Al West out I forget what division they
played in.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's Friday, and they are also, I believe, tied for
the final wild card spot right now. Now Boston is
winning right now three to nothing over the Tampa Bay Rays.
That's a team you got to pay very close attention to.
They're as hot as anyone. So it's not just important
for the stands. It's just important for my sanity to
start seeing this baseball team play like the baseball team
(01:53):
that I loved to watch for the final two and
a half or so months of the last season and
loved watching in the postseason. Even though it ended in
just a devastating fashion, it was still fun to watch,
and I will take being there over what they are
right now. Like right now, this is a very mediocre
baseball team, and you're gonna be playing a bad baseball team.
(02:15):
The San Francisco Giants are not one of the better
teams in the National League. Far from it. They are
kind of a disaster. Like everybody I've talked to has
kind of said, this is as dysfunctional of a situation
as any in Major League Baseball right now. So losing
a series against one of those most dysfunctional teams, and
(02:35):
anybody can beat anybody, you know, that's just the way
baseball works. But there'll be no excuse for going one
to two or heaven forbid worse than that in this
homestand you've got to take two out of three to
begin this weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Totally agree, And it's weird to say that, you know,
coming into the second half another quote unquote second half,
I guess the team you should win you should beat, right, Sure,
you would think that if you're saying this is a
massive first three games out of the break, it would
be against a division rival, let's right ahead of you,
(03:10):
or against the team that's getting hot in the in
the wild card standings, maybe you were playing at Boston
or something like that. But it's like you said, it's
not who you're facing, it's how the Mariners need to look.
I feel like we're very much when we did our
postcast together. We're very much a process versus results kind
of tandem here. Yeah, I like, you're not going to
(03:34):
get the result every single time. That's not how baseball works, right,
And we're not just talking about at bats. We're not
just talking about games. We're talking about stretches.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Right.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
You're going to go through stretches, even if you're playing
good baseball where you're a five hundred team, Like, that's
just the way it goes. Sure, But if you more
often than not, like feel confident in how the Mariners
are playing in good baseball, you know, do your fundamentals
have good starting, pitching, starts the damn ball, my god, yeah,
hit with runners in scoring position, plague a defense, play
(04:06):
a defense, play a defense, play good defense. I need
to say it four times because apparently they forget. That's
where even if the results don't immediately come, I will
feel so much better about this team. It's the process
that needs to look better to me instead of the
actual results.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I think that's really well said.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
And you know, the results are very important after, like
you said, because of where we are in the season,
but just looking like that team goes a long way.
For me, and it may not go a long way
for a team that's you know, screams process and result,
but I just gotta see it. I gotta see that
proof of concept that Nathan and I talked about on
(04:46):
Molly wat Monday last week.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
That that proof that they are that team.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
And there have been glimpses of it, glimpses like the
eleven nothing went against Toronto a couple of weeks ago.
That was a very solid glimpse of what this team
can be. But it's too often followed by an early
one for a anders ten pounds of crap in a
five pound bag. It can't happen in the second half,
not just because of the eye test and all of
(05:12):
that stuff. They're literally fighting for their lives right now.
Like if they would have played a three quarters up
to their ability, they'd be running away with this division.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
But they didn't.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
They played too maybe a third of their ability, and
now they're gonna have to rely not just on what
they do. They're in enough position, there's enough games left
where they still control their destiny, you know, but you
do have to pay attention to what Texas in Houston
and other teams. God forbid, this is a wild card anders,
how disappointed would you be if this team is a
(05:47):
wild card.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
It's hard to really quantify because at the end of
the day, you just want to get into.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
The dam right, You just want to make the turn.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
But it would be disappointing. It would be kind of
a buzzkill after last year. But at the end of
the day, if they go on and win three series
and go to the World Series as a wildcard.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Is anyone going to care?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
No? No, no, no.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
But like if I put myself in that position where
the Mariners go eighty three and seventy nine and they
get the fifth or sixth wild card, I will be
disappointed at that time while also acknowledging two things. Number
one still gives you a chance to do everything that
you need to do, and number two, this team has
not made the postseason enough for me to say, oh
(06:31):
that of just taking this for granted. As much as
I make my demands for the World Series stuff not jokes,
but like my references to it, I could still appreciate
it postseason appearance because there've been so few. But the
biggest reason I'd be disappointed the Mariners from ninety five
to two thousand and three were a very good baseball team,
very very good baseball team. You know what, they've never
(06:53):
done Anders, but they've never won the division in back
to back years. Never And this is a year away
not winning the division. To me, it just feels like
that would be a that the little bit of the
bad apple, even if you acknowledge that the rest of
the apples are good enough that you could still accomplish
(07:14):
all your goals. I want to see that back to
back division win and then, of course, you know, just
winning it is not even close to good enough. But
I'm really curious what everybody else thinks about this as well.
Four nine four five one on the Tacoma Dodge text line,
just how much do you need to see this team
play well right now? And you know, because like Ian
brought it up with us that like he only cares
(07:35):
about the cal Rawly being good for the postseason, right
and that, and that's understandable too, But there is something
about baseball with the journey and destination and also that
you just want to watch your team play well. Man Like,
speaking of watching a team not play well, did you
get a chance to watch the Sounders at all?
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yesterday?
Speaker 4 (07:54):
There was a reason I didn't put it any headlines.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
That's totally understandable, Like the Sounders are having a good season,
but yesterday sucked out loud and it's okay for you
to be disappointed by that. You can acknowledge that the
past has been pretty darn good. You can acknowledge that
it doesn't take away any of their goals for the future.
But when you play your rival and you get your
(08:18):
you know what pushed in ya, that's really disappointing. And
especially for everyone who's on the soccer high that they're
on right now. Boys, that's a disappointing thing. But back
to the Mariners, you have every right to be disappointed
while acknowledging that they still can do everything that they
want to do.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah, I think that's a good comp because you can
look at what the Sounders have done and they're what
last ten years since winning their first MLS Cup, Right,
it's been a process thing. Right when we talk about
process versus result, that the result hasn't always come. But
if you more often than not do the right process,
it's you're going to find yourself in good situations, whether
that's in the final, whether that's going to all but
(08:58):
one season in the playoffs in their entire history. So
I do think that there can be some taken from that.
But in terms of the game itself yesterday, man alive,
I do think there was some built up tension. I
don't know if you were how active you've been on
social media during the World Cup, But when the US
(09:19):
men's national team official account posted that when the US
was about to play USA versus Australia, and they posted
that Luminfield was the theater of Cascadia, Portland got ticked off.
So there was a little bit of like built up
angst that hey, we got first, we got to host
World Cup games.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
They did not, and very much.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Yeah, I do think there was a response to that,
and I do think there was a little bit of
a World Cup hangover for the Sounders, even though they
only had one player go yeah, it's more of a all right,
we need to kind of reget ourselves going here versus Portland.
You could tell they were focused on this game for
the last month.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I will say this, by the way, understand why Portland
might be frustrated or envious. There's no way in hell
you could have played World Cup games in Portland, Oregon.
No that wouldn't have worked at all.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Well, I don't think their point was we should have
hosted World Cup Games. It was the fact that US
had posted literally the words the theater of cascading.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yeah, yeah, I can definitely understand that, just getting under
their skin.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
By the way, I was just I was just.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
In Portland a couple days ago and got a chance
to enjoy some some slumgullion chowder from Mo's and Cannon Beach.
Cannon Beach is just one of my favorites. Portland's not
my favorite, but I do love man. We are so
blessed to have the coasts that we do anders the
ability ocean shores isn't my favorite, but you have the
ability to go to some really cool places. And then
(10:43):
the Oregon Coast is it's really tough to be gorgeous.
It's so gorgeous, and it's not far from Tillamok. Who
has the best cheese. It's not Cougar Gold, it's Tillamook,
absolutely the best. Ian doesn't listen to these shows, so
I don't have to worry about it. We have a
lot of stuff to talk about, but a lot of
what we're gonna do today is trade stuff because the
(11:05):
National League, and I wanted to save it for Friday.
The National League has some real opportunities for the Mariners
to get better. And of course, you know, there was
the comments from Jerry to Poto early yesterday about the
team potentially acquiring bullpen help, but that they're really just
a paraphrase, relying on their best players to play better
(11:26):
in order to reach the goal they were.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
And he's not wrong. He's one thousand percent not wrong.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
It's also a comment that is unnecessary, just like fifty
four percent, just like some of the other stuff that
he said. Sometimes it's just less is more, Jerry, less
is more, say yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I just don't say it.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
There's nothing good that came from it because everything else before.
It is totally fine that they need to get a
bullpen armed, that they are in a good position, that
they're disappointed with how things played. He addressed the defense,
he addressed that they needed to fix the left handed stuff,
and then of course he has to say the silly
thing at the end that just just it's inflaming.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
It's so, it's so, it's obviously the quote itself is
not as egregious to bad No. But again, I I
want to distinguish that what he said in both of
those situations might have actually been correct.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Sure, both of those even the fifty four percent one.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
One thousand percent, every m of BGM has that perception,
right of course it's saying.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
It, though it's saying it and just not not understanding
what your fans want to hear, you know what I mean,
And you know, sometimes you've got to say what fans
don't want to hear, and you've got to be honest
and whatever. Not at the end of the year, not
with what Seattle's been going through as a postseason, lack
of thereof team, all of the lack of success, Hearing
(12:52):
fifty four percent is good enough is not what you
want to hear. Hearing them literally talk about how this
was a World Series and justifiably so coming into the year,
and then kind of making a comment that can be
implied that they're not interested in making a big move
to guarantee and of course you can't guarantee any of
(13:14):
these things, but to make those odds significantly better. I
get why people were frustrated by that. That being said,
there's a lot of National League players that I think
can help the Seattle mariners, that can help them in
their bullpit. Yeah, that can help them in the outfield,
that can help this infield, which I think is an
underrated thing to potentially address here. And some relief I've said,
(13:35):
relie respect for and you know what, maybe a back
end starter if necessary, if there's something that happens here.
But we're going to talk about that. We're also going
to talk I teased it yesterday and we just didn't
get to it because we had so much, so much
trade stuff. We're going to talk some Seahawks, but in
a little bit different way because it was actually my
(13:56):
brother in law sent me a text message at about
seven o'clock this morning and he said, so the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Just have no chance this year, right, was said that.
So here's what it was.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
There's more and more reports about Aaron Donald coming back
and the concern with Anthony Bradford and those guys handling
an Aaron Donald coming back. But it's I think it's
a build up for the fact that most people believe
that the Rams are the favorite to not only win
the division, but to win the NFC and maybe win
(14:29):
the whole thing. And in fact, I think you have
to make any team of the NFC, the favorite to
win the Super Bowl. The AFC is not early nineties bad,
but it's not as good of a conference. But what
I really want to talk about is, like you see
ESPN and you see social media, just a lot of
(14:50):
talk about the Rams and not a lot of talk
about the Seahawks. And I understand why that's frustrating from
a team that just won the Super Bowl, won the
Super Bowl in dominant fashion too, like beat the crappy
hit they did, and they should have won a third time. Honestly,
(15:10):
will you watch that game if Sam Darnold doesn't play
one of his worst games, not just one of his
worst games as a Seahawk, definitely his worst game is
a Seahawk, one of his worst games ever as a
as a pro, they win that game, and they can't.
They were within a long field goal of winning that game,
but they got within a score of that game. But
(15:31):
I understand that you make the moves that they do,
and I understand that it's frustrating that they're not talking
about it. But I want to. I want to go
over why it matters to us so much, why it's
so important for us to have the respect and I'll
just tease it a little bit here.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Some of it has to do with where we are located.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
We are located in an area that if you take
a look at the East Coast, you've We've got Boston
near Boston is Baltimore, and Philadelphia and New York and
all sorts of big market areas, and it's a little
easier to maybe pay closer attention to that compared to
(16:15):
where Seattle is located. We are in our little corner.
We don't have any major market really close to us,
all due respect to Portland, but it is it's not
the same thing as those big markets that are all
lined up, and I think it feels like people ignore us,
people ignore the city of Seattle because it is just
(16:38):
not close to any other major media market and doesn't
deserve that attention. Okay, so I feel like there's a
built in lack of respect there. But I get frustrated
when I hear people say that we do not care stuff,
and then I have to listen to people talk about, oh,
(16:59):
we desperately can about what these other media markets have
to say.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
But we'll talk about that.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
A lot more in the two o'clock hour. I can
see Andrews is already formulating, But.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Yeah, I'm gonna be on the other side of this
when I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
I totally understand, I totally understand.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
It's just and you know what, I was on your
side for a very long time, a very long time,
And it started with Super Bowl forty. It started with
Super Bowl forty when the fact that they didn't talk
about how unbelievably jobbed the Seahawks were in that Super
Bowl with some of the worst officiating that I have
(17:35):
ever seen in my entire life. And I don't think
it was fixed. I just think it was incompetent. But
you know, there should have been a lot more stuff paid,
more attention paid to that in my humble estimation, So
I definitely get it. I also think it's weird that
we care so much about what other people think. I
(17:57):
want to talk kracking next, and it's we got a
chance to talk about it a little bit in our
last in our segment yesterday. But I think Andrews and
I both have at best mixed opinions on what the
Kraken have done in this offseason, and we're gonna talk
about that, and then we are also gonna Bleacher Report
(18:18):
came out with a list of fifteen names that could
be traded before July. I'm gonna ask anders mister Hockey,
how interested he is in those players. It's gonna be
a fun show. Please stay tuned for it. Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the Huskies,
Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's
closest Snow call Me Casino and Hotel. On Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Chris Crawford and for Ian Furness, joined by my good
buddy anders Hurst. Let's talk some hockey. Because I'm a
big hockey fan. I'm wearing the Kracking hat today. I
have been a casual fan of it for a long time.
I watched the Red Wings a lot when I was
a kid because I just loved that style of hockey, Cirgue, Federoff,
(19:10):
Stevie Why, a bunch of really good players, and then
kind of lost touch with it. And then when the
Kraken came back, I have just paid as much attention
to it as pretty much anything, and it's been a
lot of fun to watch. But I am frustrated I
am frustrated by what is happening with the Seattle Kraken
right now because I understand some of the roster moves.
(19:35):
I also think hearing a bunch of we triedes has
been really frustrating to hear.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
And you know what they have tried.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
We have kind of evidence of them trying right Andrews,
like there's evidence of the Jason Robertson situation, there's evidence
of the r Timmy Paneren situation, and probably a whole
bunch of stuff that we haven't heard right about players
that they've tried to get.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
But that only goes so far.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
And here's the thing I always come back to with
we tried to Anders, why didn't you succeed? Why weren't
you able to get it done? Because part of a
GM's job is not just saying I want this player.
Part of it is also convincing said player and said
team to make said move. Yeah, you have to be
able to come. It can't be completely done. There was
(20:19):
no chance they were going to convince or Tammy Pernaerin
to come here. No chance at all. Jason Robertson, I
don't know. And maybe if you played a hell of
a lot better in the last two years. Maybe it's
a little bit easier of a conversation. Yeah, so I
completely agree. Yeah, it's very frustrating to hear we tried,
because this is a as much as we just talked
about process. Anders to say that sports overall is a
(20:41):
results based industry is the understatement of understatements.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
There's another one that I'm adding to Chris crawfordism's.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
By the way, Okay, so number one Anders, real quick, yep,
am I am I justified in my frustration.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Yeah? Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
I think I feel the same way as you, and
you can both feel frustrated, but also at the same
time understand that there is a lot of I don't
want to say bad luck, but even if you're doing
all the right things, I think I don't know if
you can go back and really change a move the
crack and made and and change their fortunes. That's fair
(21:17):
to be completely honest. It's not like they totally whiffed
on a draft pick. No, it's not that like there
was this free agent that was available that was very
affordable that would have signed here, that you easily could
have got that you decided not to. Sure, Yes, you
can point to a couple of trades. But again, as
you mentioned, it's not just you know, giving getting the
(21:38):
other GM to say okay to the trade. You got
to get the player to want to come here as well.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
There, I don't think there's any one moment in time
where it's like, my god, why didn't they do this?
Speaker 1 (21:47):
No, And you know, it's funny because the two times
that they've had top five picks where drafts were having
title draft five picks didn't really help, right Like, and.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
That's where I kind of go to the I don't
say bad luck again, but because there is as we
talk about that you do have to We talked about
the player development side of things yesterday. So yes, I
also I can accept that I don't know, I don't
love where the crack And are at with their roster
right now, but also realize that maybe what they could
(22:18):
have done doesn't really help them that much. It's just
I don't know how they get to that next step. Yeah,
but I want them to.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
That's that's kind of where I'm at right now. And
here's the thing too, guys, and it's a long way away.
Based on how the roster looks right now, I think
that the crack and are probably a team that is
competing for the number one pick in next year's draft.
Next year's draft's not great either on paper. So there's
a guy from named Landon de Pott who is wasn't
Everett Silver Tip and is now at the University of
(22:45):
Michigan to pay close attention to. But after that it
gets pretty dicey, at least on paper. So there's a
chance to crack and we'll have a based on how
the roster looks right now, have a very high pick
and a not I disagree with that.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
I disagree that really I think, honestly I would rather
them have like a very high pick. But I think
they either barely squeak into the playoffs or barely miss
out on the playoffs, and they're going to be kind
of the middling road.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Okay, okay, well, well, well.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Here's the thing that's the issue though there the middling
is what I do not want. Yes, for those of
you who are old enough to remember the ninth late
nineties early two thousand's Sonics, after the Peyton and Kemp era,
there was a lot of forty two and forty that
ended up with them picking twelfth through fourteenth and taking
some really really really crappy centers and a bunch of
(23:36):
role players like Swift, Yeah, Robert Swift, say Our Senne,
Johann Petro got a hate that.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
I remember that stuff.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
I have no idea where my car keys are, but
I can tell you all about say Our Senne and
Robert Swift and Desmond Mason was one of the few
decent little picks that they made at that time, but
like never anywhere close to the star that they needed
to get. They didn't get that star until Clay bennett'st
this basketball team. Oh boy, I almost said some really
really really knotty words. But here's the thing where the
(24:08):
cracket are now. There's still time to make this roster better.
And I just happened to see a list while I
was driving up. You're not supposed to look at your
phone when you're driving, but if you're stopping a lot,
it's okay to occasionally check the Don't do that, by
the way, don't do that. There we go, don't do that.
There's a list of fifteen players to bleacher Report just
(24:30):
put out that you are potential trade targets, like not
for the kracking, but just fifteen They might be moved.
They might be moved. A few of these guys I
think are basically locks.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
To get moves at some point.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Some of them, I would say, I would be shocked
if they get moved. So I'm going to give you
the list Anders yep, and you tell me how interested
they are, and we'll go a little quicker, and if
we have to carry it over to the next segment,
we will. But fifteenth on that list, I think it's
pretty obvious. But Zach Worinski is number fifteen on their list,
and the only reason he's fifteen is because it's so
unlikely that he's going to get traded based on him
(25:04):
already declining a trade. Yep, how interested would you be
in Zach?
Speaker 4 (25:09):
I take him.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
But I don't think it's with the Kraken needs. I wotifically.
I think they have their defensive course pretty strong. They
need offense, and yes, he brings offense from the defense
from the from the blue line, but they also drafted
someone who does that, so I don't think that's where
their hole is. They they need offenceman, that's some players
like it. Uh So, yes, obviously you wouldn't say no
(25:32):
to someone like Zak Wornsky on your team, but it's
not with the Krack and.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Need totally fair. At number fourteen on this list is
Jake Debrusk of the Vancouver Canucks.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
It's like Bobby McMahon light. Yeah, honestly, it.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Would be another getting another middle six exactly, so.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
Exactly, I totally probably know on that one.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
How about Kreel Marshenko.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Yes, absolutely, yes, easy, yes for me, I think that's
that's a perfect trade target for the Kraken because he's
a young guy, guy who has shown flashes of being
a top line like, really good guy that an offense
can rely on and a goal scorer by the way,
I do. I do think if he's in a slightly
(26:12):
different situation with a better team around him, which the
Crack can have a lot of really good, like second
tier pieces, if they just need that guy, and if
he comes into this situation, maybe he elevates himself to that.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
How about Pavel Zatcha of the Boston Burns.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Umm that's it.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
I I like, I like Zaka, but I probably think
that would fall into the category of they have a
lot of those types of players already.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I'm excited to mispronounce this one. Yeah, just very coy. Yes,
Sperry Cokinyemy, Yes, that's pretty close. Uh No, he's I
mean good, Uh, lots of talent, but that's a very
much untapped potential. But even more so a question mark
on whether where that potential is about Elias p of
the Vancouvery P forty forty.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I see a lot of people don't like him, including
a lot of krack and beat writers who would not
touch him with a thirty nine and a half foot polly.
I definitely would want him on this team. I think
you could take the as long as Vancouver's willing to
eat some salary, which I believe they would if if
you were to give him something. Yeah, maybe a Shane
Wright situation where you kind of give him over to them.
(27:22):
I do think EP forty coming into a different situation
not being in the Vancouver media. He's a he's a
he's a first line guy. He's a guy that can
elevate this team, and his flaws are I think offset
by what the Crack can have already a lot of
hard working defensive players.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Jonathan Marshalt, Marciazo, Jonathan Marshall probably not a little old.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
It would be kind of a Jordan Eberley type of player,
which we already have obviously, we just more middle six
than closer to I think he's a top a top
six player, but he's he's on the older side, not
I don't think that the profile the crack and I'm
looking for.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Here's the guy that I'm the most interested in on
the list, and maybe it's just me paying a lot
of attention to the maple leafs in a hater sort
of way.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Is Matthew nice?
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Yeah, I'd rather have Markschhenko and I'd probably rather have
EP foury the.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
But would you would you take Do you think it would.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Be I take him?
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Sure I would, Yes.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
The number. We'll go through these next ones really quick.
Mason Laurie probably not Morgan Riley, No.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
No.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Number five. Hey, Shane Wright, would you trade for Shane Wright?
Speaker 4 (28:33):
If I'm another team? Please do?
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Okay? These top four are interesting.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Alexander Nakeishin No, I actually I would be interested in that.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
I don't know. It probably would take a lot because
he's a younger.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Why I trade him? Honestly?
Speaker 1 (28:47):
But the Hurricanes have a good problem of having a
lot of really good players. Yeah, sounds fun. Number three
is Jason Robertson, Yes, probably dead, but like I would
keep trying, yep, I don't see what the harm is
in keeping to try. Number two is Dylan Larkin, Yes, absolutely, yes, okay,
and then number one is Connor Hallibuck, which it just
doesn't make any sense to.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Yeah, I would love to have Connor Hellibuck, but I
don't think the Krackn have a goalie issue similar to
Zach Rowinsky, where it's like, yeah, you can't say no
to that type of player, but that's not exactly what
the Kraken need. I think that the names that intrigued
me most on that list that you just read were
Dylan Larkin, who was the one right before Dylan Larkin
that you read to me.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
You know, I said a lot of names, So Shane
Wright's that's the guy you were the most.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Oh no, it was.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Well, there's Jason Robertson obviously. Yeah. But just to kind
of wrap this talk up, there are a lot of
guys here that can make the Kraken better. I don't
know if there's anybody here that takes you to that
next step, not just for twenty six, twenty seven, but beyond.
Outside of maybe Robertson and maybe Larkin, And it sounds
(29:58):
like Larkin wants to go to I guess, and it
appears that's what's gonna end me for sure exactly, But
there are guys who can make this team better. But
I think it's more than fair to be frustrated by
the lack of success that the Kraken have had in
this offseason. We'll talk about the Mariners games coming up
against the Giants next. Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Now bad de and Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and The Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's Closestn't call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Just wrapping up our hockey talk real quick. Andrews and
I were talking off air. He usually like runs away
so that I don't have a chance to have conversation
with him, and stated, for this one, Matthew Barzol is
both a guy that I think that Anders and I
would be absolutely after as well. Some rumors that he
could be available, but uh, that's the type of guy
(31:00):
that I think can be a difference maker and also
kind of a long term part of their plans.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Yeah, and a guy again you talk about you have
to convince the guy to come here, who obviously played
his junior hockey here. He's from the Vancouver area. I
feel like he from every report that I've seen, he
likes this area. He would want to kind of be
in Seattle. It would make a ton of sense. And
a guy who, once again, I think in a better situation. Yes,
(31:25):
the Islanders have some good pieces, for sure, but I
think that type of player someone the crack and should be,
you know, aiming for.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
So the Mariners finally begin play again after they're.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Four days off.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
I guess it's like four days and like seventeen hours
something along those line, round up to five. But they
begin at home. They have a six game homestand they
take on the San Francisco Giants to open the year,
and then they have Kansas City. So excited to see
some Kansas City games against the Mariners, because they're never normal. No,
They're just never ever normous.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Always after for every single season the last three years,
I've said, all the Kansas City Royals are gonna be good.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Yeah, they have very much disappointed, So you can't ask
for much more friendly of a start to the season,
But I wanted to specifically look at these first three
games against the Giants. The Giants will be throwing out
Land and Roope in game one, Logan Web in Game two,
and Robbie Ray, former Mariner legend, in Game three, while
(32:27):
the Mariners set their rotation yesterday, Bryce Miller going in
game one, Brian Not, Bryce wu going in game two,
and Logan Gilbert pitching for Seattle in three. Game three
advantage Mariners pitching. I think for sure, Logan Web is
a very very solid starter having a down year. Robbie
(32:48):
Ray had a really good year last year, has not
lived up to expectations, and then Land and Roupe is
just your run of the mill back end starter. It's
pretty interesting to see that he's getting that first nine
for that game. That might be, hey, maybe they want
him to pitch on the road twice for these for
these games. Maybe he's better away from But you just
(33:09):
look at this Giants baseball team and they are They
are not good.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
I was waiting for it.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
They are really They're ten pounds yes, and you know
there's some decent players here. I mean, Raffie Devers got
off to a disastrous start and it's starting to hit again,
which has been fun for a couple of my fantasy teams.
A few people just flat out gave up and I
have gotten to reap the benefits. By the way, a
(33:34):
quick fantasy thing for everybody, remember that you are not
acquiring their previous stats when you go get a new player.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
You are just going to get what they do.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
Going forward to that, and that is sometimes a golden
opportunity for you because of the fact that you can
get somebody.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Who is just has to be better.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah, you know, Luisa Riyes has been a pesky, pesky
hitter for a very long time.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Yeah, kind of rebound this year. Yeah, I had a
couple bad years, but yeah, it's.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Been kind of fun to watch. There's no power in
that bat whatsoever. Willia Domis is on the injured list,
but that's allowed Casey Schmidt, one of the few bright
spots for them, uh to get a chance to play
a little bit more. He's been playing kind of all
over the field for them this year. He's a solid player.
He'd be someone I might be interested in looking at
(34:23):
for a trade in Seattle or for Seattle. Yeah, yeah,
I mean it's not like you're savior or anything. But
he's in two to eighty with a eight h five
ops and nineteen homers, so he would definitely and that
could be a guy. He's twenty seven year old. He's fine. Defensively,
it's not great, but but he's also a guy who
can play all four infield spots. So guys, no, they
(34:46):
sure don't. And he's actually playing left field for them.
I would imagine when the lineup comes out, God, what
are you doing? Harrison Bader on the injured list? Young
Huley a guy that we will talk about more in
a little bit. And then Bryce Eldridge. Bryce Eldridge is
really interesting because he is a massive dude. He's six
(35:08):
foot seven, two hundred and fifty pounds, one of the
better hitting prospects in baseball, and he's more than held
his own with an eight thirty two OPS. So you
look at that line. Oh and I skipped Willia Dames.
Williadamez has been I hate crapping on contracts because it's
not like that money is just you know, MLB, especially
(35:29):
at MLB, but Williadamas has been a disaster two thirty
seven oh one ops. And if there's a worse defensive
shortstop than John Paul Crawford. It's Willia Damash and I
think they would love to get off of that contract.
There's been a lot of talk about Raffie Devers potentially
being available as a trade guy as well.
Speaker 6 (35:50):
I would do it.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
I would won't.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
No, they won't.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
There's just too much guaranteed money there. And there's also
there's some reports about work that aren't great with Devers.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
But that guy can hit.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Man absolutely, but he can hit both sides.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Yes, well that's that is very true, Like he's gonna
be able to hit on both sides. And then that
San Francisco bullpen is just awful.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Oh, it's so bad. I think they've had the most
blown leads. I'm pretty sure anyone.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Yeah, so right now, their leader in saves, I believe
is Caleb Killen, who was pitching well and basically and
Telly got the chance to be the closer and then
just it's a harder job than I think people sometimes
give credit for. You can't just automatically make that move.
But this is a really bad pitching staff. It's an
(36:39):
I would say below average lineup is where I would go.
But there's talent for sure, but this is a type
of team that anything but two of three. I look
at this and say, I'm gonna be significantly disappointed in
the result.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Yeah, I think.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
And if I'm gonna throw you out of the bus
for your Kansasity Royals, tap, I'll throw myself under the
bus for my San Francisco Giants take.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
Because I thought they'd be really good this year.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
I was higher than most on the managerial higher I
thought that his success in the SEC and in college
would translate over to the younger players. That has not happened.
I do think I've always been very high on Rafie Devers.
When he was available for the Red Sox, I was
very much wanting the Mariners to entertain that and I
(37:27):
still do, even with the somewhat question marks about his
work ethic, I still don't think. I don't know how
much of that is real. You know, when you're on
that bad of a team, it's very a lot of
bad things come out. You've seen a lot of the
White Sox players that were on that disastrous team move
on to other teams and be really good, and none.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Of that has really happened.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
So I do think that that would be someone for
the Mariners if they find a way to have because
I know they won't take on that contract for at
least one hundred of it. But if they find the
way to have the Giants like eat some of that
and give them some prospect capital, I would be all
in on that. He's only twenty nine. I think he
(38:08):
has what six years left or something like that, so yes,
you would have him kind of going into your thirties.
But he's He's as reliable of a left handed bat
as there is, and I don't think his defense is awful.
Some people do. But he plays third base every day
like that, and or at least he used to.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
He's playing first base now for him now, And you
know that's that's probably the biggest issue is that you
have to move Naylor to DH or convince Raffie Davers
to be the DH, which has been an issue. By
the way, I have to issue it a correction. The
Mariners play the Reds, the Giants play the Royals. I
was looking at the role school and we had talked
about that, so I'm sure our listeners knew what I
(38:52):
was talking about a little bit.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
The Reds are interesting.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
I think they're better than the Royals stats for dang sure,
but interesting six game homestand coming up, we're gonna talk
trades next. Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
Now from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety

Thank you, Andrews. Reading is apparently a requirement, but luckily
I talked through a lot of it. Marazio Postino said
(39:56):
he will make a decision regarding his future as coach
of the United States it's men's national team next week.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
I think we both really wanted back.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Yes, yes, yes, yeah, let's let's let's uh, let's talk
about some trade stuff, buddy.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
Now back to Ian Furness on your Home for the
Huskies Cracking and The Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's Closest No Call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Chris Crawford in for Ian Forness and now's a fun time.
We're gonna spend basically the next hour talking about trade
candidates from the National League. And yesterday we talked about
the American League and because it's such a cluster, you
know what, And with the Red Sox just beating the
crap out of the Rays today, you know that doesn't
(40:47):
change anything. They are now, I believe anders tied with
the Mariners.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Yeah, so they have played two less games, but they
are by win technically tied. Yes, gotcha, gotcha.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
So that is very interesting, and that's one the Mariners
already lost a series against the Red Sox. They gave
another chance. But tie breakers are going to be huge
if the Mariners are not able to get the division
win because there's a lot of teams very very close.
But we talked about how many teams are in postseason contention.
For the American League, there were just the three teams
(41:20):
that we deemed not being in contention. In the Nationals League,
I feel like it's a little clearer. In particular, the
NL West has two the San Francisco Giants, who the
Barriners are going to be playing over the next three
The Colorado Rockies, who are certainly better than last year
but still not so much definitely not a contender. I'm
(41:41):
going to say the Cincinnati Reds are out of this thing.
They're a very talented group, but they're just too far behind,
I think, and have dealt with too many injuries I
believe to truly be in contention here. And then the
New York Mets are definitely out. So that's considerably I
don't know, it's only I guess I only name one
more team than the National League, but there are some
(42:03):
other teams here. The Washington Nationals are absolutely going to
be willing to sell. The Miami Marlins I don't think
are in that range yet, there's a very good chance
in two weeks that they could be in that range
that they end up being, say the Giants. I did
say the Giants yeah. So the San Diego Padres, who
you just never know what the hell they're going to do.
(42:26):
I guarantee they make a big move somewhat. There's going
to be something where they do some either buying or selling.
It will not be quiet San Diego. Aj Preller is
going to get something done. But I also just think
these teams represent better potential acquisitions for what the Seattle
Mariners need. And I'm just going to start. I teased
(42:48):
it with Mike Benton when we were doing cross talk.
The guy that I want the most for the Seattle
Mariners because it's not just a guy I think who
fits for them this year, but in the long term
as well.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Abrams of the Washington Nationals. I just think CJ. Abrams
makes so much sense for what Seattle's trying to do
now and in the long term. Now he's a shortstop.
Right now, he's a terrible shortstop. Oh yeah, yes, So absolutely,
what we're gonna do is just line everybody up at
short stop like it's a drill, and sooner or later,
(43:22):
somebody's gonna make a play. I think he would be
a fantastic outfielder, a fantastic, fantastic outfielder, center or right
or left, whatever you want to do. The biggest thing
for me is this guy just has enormous offensive upside
and he's starting to tap into it this year. And
(43:43):
the Nationals are still an organization while they have some
guys who can flat out hit. James Wood is one
of my favorite young hitters to watch. Luis Garstia, who
is another guy I think you could maybe kick the
tires on having a career year on base percentage airs
me a little bit, but is put together a really
nice offensive season. But I take a look at this
(44:07):
team and I still see there's so many pitching issues
and they are so still committed to the youth thing
right here that you can move a guy like cj Abrams. Now,
it would cost a ton. You would have to be
moving your best prospects, probably not Kate Anderson, but you
would be discussing Ryan Sloan in this type of trade.
You would be discussing Lazaro Montes, Michael Arroyo, Johnny Farmelo,
(44:31):
those guys, and maybe even some of your younger pieces
on the roster too. But I just think that if
you're looking at a difference maker, cj Abrams is probably
the most realistic difference maker that you could acquire.
Speaker 4 (44:44):
Question for you, Chris, Yeah, what side from the plate?
Does he that?
Speaker 2 (44:47):
CJ. Abrams is a guy who hits from the left side?
Speaker 4 (44:50):
Okay, so that interesting?
Speaker 2 (44:51):
That is an issue.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
There's any questions about that split.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
His splits this year are he is better against righty's
nine oh four op but he has a seven to
sixty ops against left handed.
Speaker 4 (45:03):
He's saying that instantly two sixty.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
Five three nineteen four to forty one, which would be
one of the better hitters for the Seattle Mariners this
year against Righty's two eighty three sixty five five point
thirty nine. He's stolen fifteen bases, He's hit twenty home runs.
He's only twenty five years old. If you want to
get that that guy who has a chance to take
(45:25):
you to the next level. But even this version of
it is pretty dang good. I think CJ. Abrams is
that guy.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
Yeah, I do wonder how the transition from sorts stop
to outfield would look for him, sure, because that is
another thing. One of the biggest things at the deadline
for the Mariners, in my opinion, is they have to
separate what they feel like as an actual hole in
the roster versus players underperforming. Sure, and where you can
(45:54):
expect some positive regression from a lot of If the
Mariners hitting struggles I believe are just due to underperformance, It's.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
Not that they have.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
Going into the year, And even now, you would say
talent wise, you would not expect them to be performing
at the level that they are right now. I think
you can expect obviously better second half from cal Rawly.
I think you can expect a better second half from
Julio just based off of his history. Sure, I think
you could say expect a better second half from Josh Naylor.
(46:30):
I'm talking specifically offensively here. I think you can expect
a better second half. It's hard to say for the
young guys like Cole Young and Colt Emerson, but we'll
kind of wait and see. I still think there's something
there with Cole Young. Obviously, if Brandon Donovan gets healthy.
He was looking great even in the first half. So
a lot of these I do offensively, I do expect
(46:50):
to get better now. The Mariner's bigger issue probably is
offensively right now. But the thing you acquire the trade
deadline is things you believe are actual deficiencies in the
player the profiles of the players that you have, sure,
and I think the biggest deficiency in the profiles of
the players that we have is defense. That's gonna be
(47:11):
kind of the main thing I'm looking at. If you
can get a great hitter as well, great. That's why
I love the Byron Buxton thought process, right because he
is an elite defender. Andy's a right handed hitters that
kind of adds ticks all the boxes there. But I'm
looking we need to upgrade this defense. That was something
going into the season that we saw as an issue,
(47:33):
and it's reared its ugly head. I realize a lot
of people will just look at the hitting stats and
say that needs to change, and I agree with you.
But if the Mariners are going to get to the playoffs,
and if they're going to do something special in the playoffs,
they need to have a good defense as well.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
I definitely agree with that, And it's why it's probably
something that makes more sense to talk about in the
offseason than it is right now because of the fact
that you would probably you know, it would be an
interesting thing to try to have him at shortstop because
he's not a good shortstop is not He's not JP
(48:10):
Crawford bad, he's not Willia Dams bad, the guys that
we were talking about. But he is a guy who
has struggled defensively. In fact, in range outs above average,
he's in the bottom first percentile of all players. Now
he's also a guy in eightieth sprint percentile. He has
in the forty second arms. So that's not like great
(48:30):
but or anything close to great, But it's not the
weakness that it is for some of the guys that
the Mariners have noodle blank arms a lot, and he.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
Would not be noodle blank.
Speaker 1 (48:40):
He would be noodle blank adjacent, but he's not quite
in that noodle blank And I totally agree that you
are talking about. Run prevention is still going to be
the biggest thing for the Seattle Mariners, I think if
they're going to reach their ultimate goal.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
But getting a guy who's.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
In the ninety third percentile in batting run value and
the eighty first in base running run value and he
just started to run too.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
That's the thing.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
Is like, I think there was some nagging stuff with
him a little bit, and he's starting to put that
speed to good use. I just love this guy's upside.
I love the fact that he could be a guy
that you could kind of hit anywhere in the order.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Yep, you know.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
He could be also be a guy that you just
kind of play all over the infield for a little
bit too. Like you get him and you play him
at shortstop. It's can't be. I don't think the downgrade
from what Colt Emerson is giving you at shortstop right
now to cj Abrams would be that drastic. The downgrade
from Crawford. I'm sorry the numbers may suggest that cj
(49:39):
Abrams is worse. I've watched a lot of cj Abrams,
and I've watched way too much JP Crawford at shortstop.
I would rather have cj Abrams making those plays behind
this defense. But the other thing here is is the
cost would be prohibitive. You would be talking about giving
up really good prospects because the Nationals don't have to
move him. But it would be similar. I'm not comparing
(50:01):
him to the Wansoda talents, but it would be similar.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
I wonder who was in the trade for wan so heym.
Speaker 1 (50:08):
Was in that trade, and I don't think that they've
soured on him, but I do think it's an organization
that values moving guys at the high point, and there
is a chance that this is the high point. I
don't think it is. I think CJ. Abrams is just
going to keep getting better and better. But it's an
organization that if somebody offers a bunch of stuff for it,
(50:29):
it's going to consider it. And this would be one
of the few guys I think available that you would
have to do that for. So also in the NL East.
This just came out a little recently, and the fact
that the Mets kind of had an issue a statement
on this, it has me a little intrigued. Did you
(50:49):
hear who Ken Rosenthal said that the Mets are not trading,
but it's unlikely that they're going to be trading.
Speaker 4 (50:55):
I did not.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
Francisco Lindor. Now, Francisco Lindor has had a really bad season.
He's hitting two ten with a six fifty four OPS.
He also historically has been not just one of the
better shortstops in baseball, but one of the better players
in baseball. He is a guy who has hit for average.
(51:17):
He is a guy who has hit for power. He
is a guy who has provided stolen bases. He's also
thirty two years old, so not on the prime side
of things. But if the New York Comets were interested.
Now Francisco Lindor also has a massive contract, and we
have to operate in the realities of John Stanton and
that the Mariners are not going to be a.
Speaker 4 (51:38):
Top This is not who they are targeting.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Top seven guys, right, But if they if the New
York Mets decided we really don't want this guy anymore,
and we're willing to move a Francisco Lindoor because it
wouldn't cost your top prospects. It certainly wouldn't cost the
top guys. It would cost probably you know, you're looking
at the Farmelo's, maybe the Luke Stevensons, the Nick Beckers
(52:04):
who are in the top ten, but not if the
upper echelon of some of these other guys are. I
cannot lie to you and say that I'm not intrigued
by Francisco Lindor potentially being a Mariner.
Speaker 7 (52:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
I just don't see it happening.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
I don't. It's not realistic.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
But the fact the Mets, anytime somebody has to come
out and say something, I wonder what if that smoke
has some fire to it.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
Yeah, absolutely, I I even if they were willing to
move him, they would want obviously something in return. I
especially if you're gonna have them eat money right right now,
that's where you would have to give up the top prospect.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
Here's the thing, though, I do wonder if David Stearns
is a very smart guy. Despite the fact that I
think he's built an incredibly flawed roster for the Mets,
He's one of the more respective guys. I think he
realizes that this team needs kind of a restart. I
think that he would be a type of guy who,
and again, operating with a potential salary cap. Here the
(53:02):
chances of not wanting to have that contract on the roster. Now,
you can also make the argument that Seattle wouldn't want
that contract on the roster either with a potential cap. Right,
But if they were willing to do it without them
having to get because honestly, I'll just tell you this,
I don't give.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
A crap about the contract.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
I don't you don't know, But and I don't think
that most people should care. The Mariners have to care,
that's what matters. Sure, I think that they care a
little too much, but that's that's just the reality of
the world. I just think Francisco Lindor, if he was
a realistic acquisition for the Seattle Mariners, would be something
that you would have to consider.
Speaker 3 (53:42):
It's targeting a lot of shortstops. You supposed future at shortstop,
and he's still.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Your future at short stop, but he may not be
the present for you at shortstop. It's been a struggle.
It's been a struggle. He has not looked good. I
love Colt Emerson long term, I'm not one hundred percent
sure he's ready to play.
Speaker 3 (54:02):
I just don't know if trading for a guy that
has what four years left on his contract that is
not going to play anywhere else, then don't stop.
Speaker 4 (54:10):
Is that's not I mean?
Speaker 1 (54:11):
But Colt to Emerson I think would actually be an
elite second basement. And then what you're talking about is
you're having to make a move with Cole Young to
another team, another position. And I know he's been great.
Are am I positive that Cole Young is gonna get
way better going forward? I'm not not. Personally. I think
this three to four win player that we've seen right
now is the ceiling, and it's a good ceiling. But
(54:34):
if you can acquire the five to six win player
that may be even a little bit better than that,
I think it's okay to trade.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
It that costs you twenty five million more dollars a year. No, Mariners,
I'm talking. I'm not saying I.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
Well, I understand what you're saying. You're one hundred percent.
You're one hundred percent in the right to be saying
it too. My approval means everything to you. No, it's
just I want ceiling. I want more ceiling on this team,
and I think Francisco Lindor as long as you're not
moving those top prospects like I would in trade Cole
Young for Francisco Lindor. Hell no, I wouldn't even consider it.
(55:10):
But if I could move a Johnny Farmelo and a
Nick Stevenson or a Nick Becker excuse me, or a
Luke Stephenson, yeah, I would be considering that type of move.
And it kind of sounds to me like the Mets
would consider something like that as well.
Speaker 4 (55:29):
Yeah, I don't think the Mariners would.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
I don't know, I don't think so. I do think
Francisco Lindor certainly has a no trade clause. I think
Seattle would be maybe the type of organization he would
consider moving on to.
Speaker 3 (55:43):
So they're just so obsessed, rightly or wrongly, with their
own process here right, and they're not gonna fast track
what they believe is their timeline, even if there is
more desperation this year to win the World Series, but
they believe they have a perfect little system here where, yes,
(56:03):
JP Crawford is still a player on this team who
can contribute offensively, we're going to transition from him to
Cole Emerson at short. You got Cole Young at second,
Brendan Donovan for a couple of years at third, and
then you kind of figure it out after that. It
seems like they're kind of just churning out the process here,
and I don't think they would do anything to kind
of screw with that unless a massive opportunity for a
(56:24):
younger player, cost controlled player would come up to add
to that, I don't think they would blow all that
up just to you know, possibly get more out of
a position they feel like they are pretty set for
for the years to come.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
Totally agree, except that I don't think you would have
to blow up that much to get Lindor.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
I just don't think when I say blow up. I
don't mean the stuff you're giving up.
Speaker 1 (56:46):
Oh, I understand what I mean, like changing the algorithm
basically yes, so that does make sense four nine, four
or five one? Would you have any interest in a
Francisco Lindor trade if it was realistic? We'll look at
more trade stuff next, but first and update from the
Open Championship.
Speaker 5 (57:04):
Now back to Ian Furness on your Home for the Huskies,
Kraken and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's
closest Snow call me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Chris Crawford and for Ian Furness, we're doing trade talk
real quick text from the two five to three here
because if this is what people got from this, then
I did a terrible job. It says you just said
you'd trade for Lindor, move Emerson to second base, and
then trade Young, but wouldn't trade Lindor for Young? What's
the difference? Ha ha HAA stick to Monday's. First of all,
(57:39):
the stick to Mondays thing is one of the dumbest
things I've heard. We talk about baseball on Mondays, So
you want me to stick to talking about baseball, but
you don't want me to talk about baseball. Yikes. However,
that's not what I meant. You don't trade Cole Young now.
What you would do is if you traded for Lindor,
is you option Colt to Emerson back to Triple A.
(57:59):
He has been a bad baseball player at the major
league level so far. Guys, there's lots of reason for
optimism going forward. I even have optimism going forward for
the rest of the year. But Colt Emerson hasn't been
a helper for the Seattle Mariners for most of the year.
There have been flashes of brilliance. But it's not me
saying you trade Cole Young now. It's not me saying
(58:21):
that you move Colt Emerson to second base now because
of that trade. I'm saying that if you acquired a
shortstop like that, it would give you the option for
Cole Young to be a really interesting trade candidate or
a guy you consider changing positions with as well. There's
it's silly to assume that's what I meant from that,
(58:41):
but I just wanted to address it in case that's
how it came up.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
Yeah, I think I think it's hard to you know,
decipher because immediately when someone thinks, oh, you're bringing in Lindor,
I mean you have to move someone off sure, right,
and that it's not doesn't mean you would do the
one for one right right.
Speaker 4 (58:56):
There's Domino's effects.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
Absolutely how this would go to the trickle down economy
of baseball. So I promise you there are positions other
than shortstop I would like the Seattle Mariners to acquire.
I know, I just spent whole twenty minutes talking about him,
But there are guys that are available, I think from
some of these other National League teams who are not
in contention, that could help the Seattle Marrier will start
(59:20):
at the very bottom with the Colorado Rockies, because you
would think there's not a lot of guys who could
help you there, and you would probably be right. There's
no it would make no sense for them to make
trade Hunter Goodman. Hunter Goodman is one of the better
young players in baseball right now, with certainly one of
the more underrated young players in baseball. I think Mickey
Moniac would be really interesting to look at, except for
(59:43):
the fact that he has the exact same issue that
currently have with dom Canzone and Luke Raley. He cannot
hit left handed pitching, but he's been great this year
nine hundred ops. Willie Castro I think is a guy
as a utility guy who could help you. I think
capable of playing everywhere, a right handed hitter who can
(01:00:03):
play the outfield a little bit. He can play second base,
third base, shortstop, that type of guy that you know
if you don't feel comfortable having Colt Emerson face a lefty.
The type of guy who I think and would cost
you almost nothing. I think he would be a guy
to take a look at. It's also interesting here the
Colorado Rockies. You would think would have a bad bullpen,
(01:00:24):
and you'd be pretty correct, But there's some guys here
that I would probably consider for helping with that bullpen.
Jordan Romano, if for like nothing, would be something he's
pitched well since he's got there.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
And Antonio Senzatela.
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
I think he's a guy who makes a lot of
sense as a potential target for them as a multi
inning reliever who would give you a much higher floor
at the back of your pitching staff that again you
would not have to move top prospects for.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Yeah, I think Santa tell is the one out of
all those that kind of intrigues me the most and
probably intrigues the Mariners the most because they love these
kind of I don't want to say reclamation projects, but
he's he's had an uptick in his stuff this year
from a year's past. Now how much of that was
just pitching in Colorado? Who knows, right, But I think
(01:01:13):
raising your floor at the front end of your bullpen
it would be very, very, you know, beneficial to the
Mariners as they need to kind of not have the
Nick de Villa's of the world appearing in as many
games as he has been recently. Willie Castro is a
name a lot of people are throwing out the deadline
(01:01:33):
last year. Yeah, and I think a lot a lot
of people thought the Marriors would go for him. So
that's definitely a possibility here to this year as well.
So it doesn't really raise your ceiling that much. I
think he just kind of provides a Dylan Moore esque
role and I know people are gonna not love that,
but I mean, the guy you can play everywhere or
a hit left end of pitching, hopefully at a better
(01:01:53):
level than that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Sure, move it on to the Giants and we tease
this a little bit yesterday. I think jung Uli is
somebody that the Mariners have to consider. Now, he's a
left handed hitter, so that may not be left no
the lefties, but it's just the way it goes. Willie
costro By the way at right hander. So I cried
switch hitter.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Oh that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
So the thing about Lee is he is a guy
who's been just as good against lefties as righty. He's
hit well a little bit better against right He's but
a very very leg difference seven seventy one ops, seven
forty ops against lefties two ninety two, three twenty four,
four seventeen. He's far from a hindrance against those guys.
He's not a great defensive player. He has that noodle
(01:02:36):
arm that we were talking about, but I think he
would be fine in left field. I think, or excuse me,
his arm value is bad. He has the arm strength
that you're looking for. You don't know where it's going,
but he absolutely has the arm strength to handle right
field or left field, and I think he would be
fine there. It's there are some adventures in Some of
(01:02:58):
his bad outfield value has come from some center field
play which you would not be asking to play center
field at all. But this guy has an expected batting
average in the ninety fourth percent diile. He has a
whiff rate in the thirteenth percent dile, a k rate
in the ninety seventh percent diile.
Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
High contact doesn't stretch.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
High contact now also doesn't walk four percent walk rate,
doesn't really barrel the baseball, doesn't make a ton of
hard contact.
Speaker 4 (01:03:23):
It's a profile the Marriags don't really have, no But.
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
I think that's actually maybe a weakness a little bit. Yeah,
it's the it's the Nora Aoki, you know, and it's
the type of guy that. Nora Aoki was a solid
player for Seattle. It didn't work out great, but he
was a guy that It's the type of guy that
good teams have, and unfortunately it just doesn't provide a
rebuilding Giants team a ton of value. He's only twenty seven,
(01:03:47):
so I think there's a chance that he's going to
get better. It's also worth pointing out the he's gotten
better each MLB season as well.
Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
He had an.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Injury riddled twenty twenty four where he had a six
forty one OPS. Twenty twenty five, it jumps to thirty
four twenty twenty six, it jumps to seven sixty two.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
I think that might be the peak what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
I don't think you're talking about him being a eight
to twenty ops guy just because there's a lack of
power there. But he can put the ball into the gaps.
He's a guy who can run. I think it's a
really intriguing profile. It's something that you're hitting closer to
the bottom of the lineup, but if you're looking to
just kind of get more contact, get some speed onto
(01:04:28):
the bases without giving up top prospects, because I don't
think he would cost a top prospect. I think he
makes sense as somebody to target.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
Yeah, I think I'm just looking at his contract now.
They signed him before last year, if that's correct, the
Giants did, and we'll get a kind of first hand
look at him as well here in this next series.
I'm just looking at spa track. So he's due twenty
three million dollars next year. He has a player opt
out after that and then two year forty one million
(01:04:59):
dollar opt in if he wants to stay in. So
that's twenty million twenty million the next year. So it's
a lot of money that the Mariners would be committing
themselves to which again I don't see them doing.
Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
I also think that's absolutely something the Giants would be
willing to eat some money. Okay, In fact, all of
the reports suggests that the Giants are kind of willing
to eat some money to get out of some of
these deals. The Raffi Devers if anyone is willing to
make the move. It's so funny to say, willing to
make the roof, by the way, for someone as good
as Raffi Devers.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
But you know there would there Could he play third
base again?
Speaker 5 (01:05:33):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
I think it would be asking a lot. I think
it would be asking a lot, certainly in the middle
of this year. But you know, the Mariners.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
Don't have third base solved.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Guys, No, they do not have third base solved, both
short term and long term.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
So you know, something to explore.
Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
I've always loved Raffi Devers bat awful lot. I want
to talk about the Padres real quick because of what
we were talking about with the fact that they could
do anything, and just real quickly. Man, if Mason Miller
actually is available, that's the type of guy that you
gotta consider. I mean, it's so obvious but like I
(01:06:09):
think that the Mariners focus should be more on moving
marginal prospects to get back end bullpen guys. And by
back end, by the way, I'm talking about the very
last guys. The guy the Nick de Vila is the
upgrading on those guys. But if you compair Andres Munios
and Mason Miller and then have Matt Brash and Eduard
Bizardo and Jose Ferrera and Gabe Spier, you have one
(01:06:30):
of the truly elite bullpens in all of baseball. And
this guy's special. He would be the type of guy too.
It's interesting because you wouldn't have to make him your
closer if you want to leave Andres Munos in the
closing spot. Mason Miller is the type of guy that
they've loved so much, the fireman, the guy who can
just come in in any situation and get so much
(01:06:52):
swing and miss that you're going to get out of it.
I'm not willing to move a Los Montes for Mason Miller.
I might be willing to move a Michael Arroyo. I'd
certainly move a Johnny Farmelo. The thing here is, will
the Giants have the sunk in cost fallacy because, excuse me,
the Padres, because of the fact that they gave up
(01:07:14):
a top five prospect in baseball to get him, do
they feel like they need to get something similar to
that in order to move him. I think that would
be a mistake. I think the Padres are in need
of a rebuild and do need to explore moving these
types of guys. Man, if you can get Mason Miller,
I think that's something. Again, obvious point is obvious, but
it's just something you have to explore.
Speaker 3 (01:07:36):
Yeah, what about on the hitting side of things, someone
like Ramon Loreano.
Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
Ramon Loreano makes a ton of sense because he's a
solid defensive outfielder. He is crush left handed pitching his
entire career, not this year for whatever reason. Yeah, it's
been weird. I've have enough confidence in him for him
to be a guy who can end up doing solid
against south Pause and can hit right handed pitching.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Certainly well enough.
Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
The other guy in that regard would be Miguel Andohar,
who is a more of certainly a DH type of profile.
Some text by the way, four nine four to five
one to Komadajes text line, really appreciate all of the
messages already about this stuff. Whether you agree or disagree.
You know who's having a good year too, is a
right handed hitter. Ty Franz. No, you can't do it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
You just can't do it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
But there are certainly guys on the padres like Andrew
har like Ramon Loreano that would make sense. We'll wrap
up this trade talk next on Sports Radio ninety three
point three KJRFM.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
Now back to e in Furness on your home for
the Huskies Cracking and The Twelfth Man, brought to you
by Seattle's closest Snow call Me Casino and Hotel. On
Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
Chris Crawford in free in Forness. Let's finish up this
trade talk because it's fun. It's just fun to speculate.
It's I don't have anything that tells me that they're
going to do this stuff. I talk to scouts of
prospects in high a more than I certainly talk about
potential trite stuff here and there. I hear something, and
if I really heard something, you wouldn't hear me say
it on the radio. Because I want them to continue
(01:09:10):
to talk to me, because that's how that works. So
four nine four or five one to coma dodge text line.
A lot of talk about upgrading the defense, getting better defensively,
and I've screamed it from the rooftops, even though I
forgot it on Monday, and it was very funny that
I got it on Monday. But a guy who I
(01:09:31):
think could make sense in that regard, it would, I think,
take the Marlins getting out of contention. But I don't
think this guy would cost a lot. And you know what,
even if the Marlins are still in this thing, I
could see them moving a guy like this. It's Javier Sonoa.
He is a third basement slash shortstop. Him just little guy.
He's five foot seven, one hundred and fifty pounds, soaking wet.
(01:09:54):
I would be just like when they say messy is
the height he is, I would be skeptical if that
is actually because he is a very small player. That
being said, he's hit two seventy two with a seven
sixteen ops. He is very contact, heavy guy, and he
is a guy who can play every infield position. I
would feel more confident in him playing shortstop than anyone
(01:10:16):
the Mariners have right now. Defensively, he doesn't have the
upside or any we're close to it of a Colt
Emerson or a Cole Young or even a JP Crawford. Offensively, like,
he doesn't have that skill set, but he's twenty three
years old. He's a guy who is not going to
be the starting shortstoper or second baseman for the Miami
Martins because they have one of the best middle infield
(01:10:40):
combos in all of baseball and Auto Lopez and Xavier Edwards.
By the way, Otto Lopez absolutely unrealistic, but hey, if
you want to make a phone call there, what a season.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
That guy is having.
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
I like Edwards.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
I like Exevier Edwards too.
Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
They have They're building something in Miami, and I just
don't know if Sonoa is art of that long term build.
Certainly a nice utility guy to have, and the Marlins
are always going to be cash cognizant, but I think that, uh,
he's the type of guy you could get without giving
up a whole hell of a lot and maybe a
little more upside than a Willie Castro type for the
(01:11:16):
middle infield as well.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
For sure, I think that kind of it's gonna be
a weird comp but it's very Ben Williamson no I.
Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
Told it's a good comp. It's a good comp. He's
he's faster, probably a better he's a better offensive player.
But you know what, for all the hate Ben Williamson
gets from Molly Watt Mundane in particular, the Mariners could
use Ben Williamson right now. I could they. I mean,
he's really helped Tampa Bay. He can't hit, but he's
a good defensive player. He's a great defensive third baseman.
(01:11:46):
And he's done enough that the Marlins, who are a
pretty smart organization, are willing to play him a short
stop in second base. Yeah, and again, second base is
not an issue for the Seattle Mariners.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
It's just it comes up because we it's what he's playing.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
Short stop has been an issue, and Ben Williamson I
would trust to play shortstop more than JP Crawford. At
this point, col Timer said, I'm not sure, but it's
he would help the Mariners. Yeah, he would help them.
And getting a guy like that, Is there anyone in
particular that you are super interested in the n Allen trading.
Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
For the one I mentioned in the Roman Lareano, this
makes a ton of sense. He's having a little bit
of a down year and for whatever reason, his entire
career he's mashed lefties and this year, for whatever reason,
he hasn't as much. I wonder if it's just a
lack of opportunities, but he's an upgrade defensively on both
corner round field positions to be completely honest, but obviously
(01:12:38):
would be playing right field unless you're moving Randy, which
I don't think you are. And a guy who just
last year had an eight sixty something OPS and including
even better than that against left handed pitching. So I've
always liked him as a player as well, even if
he's not the player that he wasn't necessarily last year.
If he's the player he was two years ago, that's
(01:12:59):
a seven to fifty OPS two sixty batting average, Like
would absolutely take that right. Yeah, So that's kind of
the guy, and I think that's gonna be the space
the Mariners are going to be operating in. Yes, it
does scream some Rob Refsnyder ish stuff, sure, because it's
a guy that historically has done it and then all
of a sudden is not as much this year. This
(01:13:21):
is a much better player than Rob Refsnyder, much better
defensive player than Rob Reth Schnyder. He can hit versus
right eyes too, you, so you can play him every day.
So maybe if you were thinking about it, you could
you could move a Luke Rayley or dom can zone
for him and maybe get something else in return, because
that you're giving up more value than receiving. So that's
gonna be kind of the space that I think the
Mariners are going to be operating in. But other than that,
(01:13:43):
I love your CJ. Abrams idea. I do think he
obviously he's playing shortstop now. I would want to know
what that would look like, right him moving to the outfield.
But I definitely want that bad, like that's that's it.
That's definitely a bad I want to have.
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
And I get it. You can go one of two
ways here. You can either say go defensive heavy, go
make this better, or you can lean into it and say, well,
we're not gonna be We're a bad defensive team. We
better be able to pitch really well, and we better
be able to mash. And he could certainly help you
in the mash part. I don't think C. J. Avers
(01:14:17):
would be a great pitcher, but I did. I did
mention pitching, so I guess I'll mention it pitching today.
Who's that Ben Williamson be.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
It was very exciting to see good old Benny w Out.
Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
In their boot lost the Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (01:14:31):
Speaking of pitching, there's a ton of bullpen arms that
are going to be available. There's a ton of guy
we mentioned Mason Miller, one that I think could make
sense here is actually a reunion. You may forget that
this guy pitched for the Seattle Mariners. Luke Weaver. So,
Luke Weaver has been excellent for the New York Mets
and is basically since he joined the Yankees has gone
(01:14:51):
from being one of the most organizational depth pitchers in
baseball to really excelling. Since moving to the bullpen. He's
got a two point zero three ERA. He has a
forty three to eleven strikeout to walk ratio point eight
point eight three pounds the zone. He is the type
of guy who love that love those types of guys
(01:15:14):
doesn't have to be a closer. In fact, he's not
right now because he's pitching behind Devin Williams. Devin Williams
contract I just don't think is a realistic one to move,
and I think Luke Waiver might actually be better than
Devin Williams. All due respect to Devin Williams is a
solid closer, but.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
Perfect guy to bring into add depth to your bullpen
that you feel another name you feel good about in
a high leverge situation.
Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
And Luke Weaver is a guy who makes a little
bit of money. So you're not talking about moving elite
prospects for You're gonna have to move a good one
because lots of people are gonna get interested in him.
Of all the names we mentioned, In fact, he might
be the one I would bet the most on being traded,
just because it makes so much sense for where New
York is. But he would make the Seattle Mariners a
(01:15:54):
hell of a lot better, a hell of a lot better.
That would be the type of guy that I would
go get. Tacoma Dodge four nine four five one. The
Jacoma Dodge text line, excuse me, let us know who
you think they should get, who they shouldn't get, and
how handsome both of us are. We just really need
the compliments. And we're going to talk a little bit
about being a fan. Next on Sports Radio ninety three
point three KJRFM.
Speaker 5 (01:16:18):
Now from the Star Rentals Sports to Us Jordan ninety
three point three KJRFM Sports Headlines.
Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
Headlines are brought to you by Frostburg Coors Light Choose Chill.
The Mariners begin their second half tonight against the San
Francisco Giants, a three game series, a six game homestand
led the roupe against Bryce Miller. The World Cup Spain
versus Argentina and New York Sunday eleven thirty pre game

(01:16:45):
threat despite the air quality warnings in the area. We
are all hoping that continues to remain the case. Third
place game takes place Saturday, one thirty pm pregame on
ninety three point three KJRFM between England and France. If
I was in interested in a third place game, it
would be this one. I'm struggling, but I'll still listen
to kjr anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Hey, there you go. You'll hear me on the.
Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
Preappit, and that's exactly why I'll be listening. And Andrews
has absolutely crushed it this world you speaking of crushing
it until they got crushed. Mauricio Chattino said he will
make a decision regarding his future as coach of the
United States Men's National team next week. I wonder what
his other options would be, he has some club options
for I would imagine he would have some club options.
Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
Although a lot of the holes have been filled and
it happened like during the World Cup, so it was
kind of poor timing for him. So maybe he takes,
you know, one more cycle with us.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
Maybe he can manage the Seattle manners.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Maybe probably better than Dan Wilson. Hey, you never know.
Speaker 5 (01:17:43):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest sn'll call me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.
Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
Chris Crawford and for Ian. For Ian, I believe we'll
be back Monday, by the way, So that's great. It's
nice though.
Speaker 4 (01:18:05):
No, I'm out next week.
Speaker 1 (01:18:06):
So oh that's right. You're gonna have some fun, so, uh,
you know, can we hang out at some point or
are you gonna be too busy?
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
Probably gonna be out of town for a little bit, okay,
but we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
Do you want to give people your exact address of
where you're gonna be and all of that good stuff?
Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
I mean, if you're that interested to reach out, but uh,
I'm not just giving it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:26):
Out over there. Yeah, that's a pretty good idea pretty
good eye dia real quick. Finishing up the trade talk,
I meant to mention Spencer Steer of the Cincinnati Reds
as a potential guy who'd makes sense hit two forty
seven or has hit two forty seven so far, fourteen homers,
seven forty nine ops, and a guy who could play everywhere. Now,
he's not great anywhere, but he's not outside of second base,
(01:18:49):
which you would not be playing in matt. He can
be fine in the corner outfield. He could be fine
at third base. He could be very fine at first base. Unfortunately,
first base is definitely taken. But Spencer Steer is another one.
I wanted to add there four Nite four or five
one on the komadaj text line, if we missed anybody
that you think the Mariners should be interested in acquiring. Okay,
I want to talk to some Seahawks, but I want
(01:19:09):
to take it from a little bit of a different
angle because I am someone who is Before I go
to bed, I will just put on Instagram or YouTube
and just go to the reels and I'll just watch
stuff and it's mostly sports. Honestly, most of it's dogs,
which is great. You know, it's great to see some
(01:19:30):
cute puppies. And I don't know if you've seen this
raccoon anders that has the spine issues. That is my
hero and I hope I get a chance to see
him at some point. I also had a lot of
Neil the Seal about this seal that is in New
Zealand that just destroys their town before he goes Anyway.
A lot of those sports, a lot of it is NFL.
(01:19:52):
A lot of it is recapping what people think teams
are going to do. And there's been a lot of
talk about the Los Angeles Rams and what the Los
Angeles Rams have done this offseason, and it's not like
exactly they were a bad football team last year. You know,
they were certainly one of the very I would argue
they were the second best team in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:20:13):
Thank you for not saying best, because there's some people
that still say that.
Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
No, they're not, they're not. If you have to number one,
win the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
You can win the super Bowl without being the best team,
but you better win your division. If you didn't do that,
or you better beat the team that not. There's just
so many arguments that you can make for Seattle being better.
Now on paper, I think you can make a real
argument that the Rams are better, and there's been a
lot of talk. I think you can make a strong
argument that the Seahawks are still the best team in
(01:20:41):
the NFL. I think they're the best team in the NFL.
I think they're going to win the super Bowl, which
brings me to my point. I don't care what other
people are saying about the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
It just doesn't bug me.
Speaker 8 (01:20:54):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
I mentioned this when we were first talking about it,
when we introduced the potential for the segment, and.
Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
This time we actually got to it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:03):
I used to be someone who really got bothered by
the lack of respect that Seattle sports team's got. It
bugged me that I would turn on ESPN and you
would hear more about after a Seahawks big win. You'd
hear more about why the other team lost the game
than you'd the Seahawks winning the game. And then you
would see the team go twelve and four back then
(01:21:25):
because it was the sixteen game, because I'm an old man,
you would see him go twelve and four and the
ten and sixteen and the next year's power rankings would
be ahead of him, and I would just.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Be like, why why do people not pay attention to us?
Why don't we get this respect?
Speaker 1 (01:21:41):
But lately, and I don't know what it is, Maybe
it's me getting old, or maybe it's just me getting
tired of click pait journalism. Lately, I have just gotten
really annoyed at people's reaction to that stuff, of why
people care so much about what outside media does, and
(01:22:01):
like it's kind of like what Ian and I were
talking about right before they played Belgium, that there were
people talking about if because of the Balligan decision, that
there would be an asterisk if the USA won because
of the almost unheard of decision to rescind but or
suspend that red card, And we talked about, why do
(01:22:22):
we care what other countries think? If we're gonna win
this game, why do we care about that? Well, they
ended up not winning and not winning by a lot,
but it is an interesting comparison of why is it
anders and I'll let you just go here, why is
it that we care so much about what outside people
(01:22:44):
think about? In particular the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
It's bragging rights as fans, that's all what being a
fan is is bragging rights. You're not playing right, You're
not the one that's going and winning every single game.
So the joy you get, yes, it comes from actually
experiencing what ends up happening. But a lot of the
fan experience for most people is trash talk and your
Niners fan friend right, seeing that online, all this good
(01:23:16):
will I should say, or at least applaud it's going
towards the team that you like. It makes you feel
good because it's like, yeah, I root for that team.
I went through everything that this team went through. As
a fan, I should when they win the Super Bowl,
when they are the best team, I should be able
to experience the high of getting seeing my favorite team
(01:23:38):
be recognized as such. And when that doesn't happen, it's
very much frustrating as a fan. And yes, there it
definitely is some you know, East Coast bias with that
kind of stuff, or big market bias, I like to say,
because it's the Rams, aren't the East host there on
the West. But it's la But it's bragging rights, simple
(01:23:58):
as that, Like I'm kind of going through something similar
right now with the Argentina. Glad you brought it up,
run because it really is starting to tick me off
how every single and maybe it's my you're much more
of a mature man than me, Chris Craffory, because I
shouldn't be focused on that stuff. I should just focus
on my own experience and what I am seeing. But
(01:24:21):
I also like going on social media and seeing things
that I normally wouldn't see, seeing like a little Mike
McDonald clip talking to his team, seeing positive coverage about
my team from media, whether it's local or national. I
like seeing that kind of stuff. It makes me feel
even better. I think that's what social media can be
(01:24:43):
a positive thing, at least in the sports landscape, because
it gives you access in ways that you've never had before.
But when it gets to the point where every single
thing that you do, people try and find a reason
to either a say that was the other team that
gaves to you be say that you got lucky from
a referee decision, sure, or see.
Speaker 5 (01:25:05):
Just that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:07):
You'll lose the next game. Oh yeah, you won this one,
but you'll lose to the next team. Don't worry, they'll
smack you. It becomes insanely frustrating as a fan. I'm
curious if other people feel the same way when it
comes to that with the Seahawks, because that definitely is
something that I have gone through, not just with the Seahawks,
but with other fandoms as well.
Speaker 1 (01:25:26):
It makes a ton of sense from that perspective, and
you know, that is an aspect of fanhood that sometimes
I forget a little bit about, the braggadocious era, like
the wanting to respectfully, I mean sometimes not so respectfully.
If you're really close to the person, sometimes it can
get personal and attacky. And I honestly think if it's
(01:25:48):
with a close friend of yours, that's okay and it
can be fun. Yeah, it's not okay with strangers on
the internet. And that's where I sometimes get frustrated. And
maybe that's me because I have just it becomes so
personal and you know, you've you've heard of ad hominem before, right,
like the the attacks that have nothing to do with
(01:26:10):
what's going on, And it's like, oh, you don't think
that uh Cam Chancellor is the greatest safety other, well,
you're fat and your mom smells like that's the type
of stuff and obviously I haven't heard that one, but uh,
I've heard fat. I haven't heard anything about my mom's.
Speaker 8 (01:26:23):
But.
Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
I get so frustrated that that is and this is
something that not to even come close to bragging because
I've I've decided that I am a D minus celebrity.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
I'm not quite an F but D minus.
Speaker 1 (01:26:39):
Just enough of a social media following that I have
people like come in my mentions and uh have an
idea of who the heck I am, which is still
weird to me. But you know, but it's frustrating when
I see those types of attacks. Maybe that I maybe
just block it out now, but maybe I just but
I I also will just say this my personal opinion.
(01:27:05):
If you think the Seahawks are going to win the
Super Bowl this year, if you think the Seahawks were
one of the greatest defenses of all time last year,
if you believe that the Seahawks were certainly not lucky
to beat the Rams in two out of those three games,
don't let some dude in Bristol, Connecticut tell you how
to feel about the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (01:27:26):
Is that even if you don't agree, even if you
don't feel that way, does that not frustrate you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:31):
Here's why it doesn't frustrate me, because it should probably. Yeah,
I have such contempt for that human being in terms
of a lack of respect for what they do, that
it doesn't bug me anymore. It's frustrating that that person.
And you know, I get jealous of sometimes of people
who get to be on ESPN and Fox Sports and
get to say whatever the hell they want with no consequences.
(01:27:54):
But I know that that person doesn't know what the
hell they're talking about. And I know now that it's
not going to take away my enjoyment of enjoying Seahawks
football or Mariner baseball or Huskies football. Boy college sports
can be some of the worst for more, so yeah, yes,
it's not going to take away my enjoyment. Like I
will make fun of Ian about cougar stuff until I perish,
(01:28:18):
It's just going to be because it's fun.
Speaker 3 (01:28:21):
So okay, let me let me give you a scenario here. Sure,
I know this is going to feel weird, Okay, I
love it. If you're an Astros fan, Okay, I know,
but just put yourself in those shoes, I am, okay,
and you win. The twenty seventeen World Series. Yeah, and everyone,
no matter what happens, Yeah, puts that asterisk on it.
(01:28:43):
And say, you say, even though we in Seattle agree
that it was cheating one hundred percent, a lot of
people think they should have had their World Series taken
away all that kind of stuff. But say you're an
Astros fan who really believes that it was It was
a long time coming. It was a long time coming
for Stress fans at that point, it was their first
in their history. So now every single conversation surrounding the
(01:29:07):
one of the moments in your sports life that's super
super important, no matter if it's ESPN or anywhere random
online dude, is that they cheated and that it shouldn't
really count.
Speaker 4 (01:29:19):
Does that not tick you off at all?
Speaker 1 (01:29:22):
So this is an interesting one. I will say it's
the exception that maybe proves the rule, though, Okay, because
that's something where her I would like to think if
I was Skeeter Bob mcdillicutty.
Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
In Houston, Texas living in.
Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
Houston, Texas, I would like to think that I would
still it's just Skeeter Bob. I can stereotype with the
best of them. Yeah, Skeeter Bob, I believe still would
have enough cognitive ability to say, you know what, this
(01:29:57):
wasn't right? Yeah, And I would think that for the
Mariners too. I truly believe I would. Now that doesn't
mean I wouldn't love to see that flag.
Speaker 2 (01:30:06):
Flying and mobile.
Speaker 1 (01:30:08):
Right, And ultimately, because there's Astros fans that I have
talked to who believe that they didn't get it harsh
enough punishment. And there are some who believe we just
happened to be the ones who got caught. We just
happened to be the ones. This wasn't the reason why
we won. It just so happened that we happened to
be caught. The Red Sox got caught doing something similar
(01:30:31):
if they would have won the World Series? Would you
have the same feeling about us? YadA YadA, YadA yah.
But there are also some who have said, boy, we
got away with one. And my issue with the punishment
is what they didn't do to them going forward. Right,
It's a tough situation through That's a tough one because.
Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
That's obviously the extreme right.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
That's no one's saying that the Seahawks are cheating or
anything like that, but everyone is is. I see so
much of the Ams were actually the best team last year? Sure, right,
And the only reason the Seahawks won is because of
a random two point conversion where it's Zach Scharmany picks
up the ball. If that had changed that everything, the
Rams would have won the Super Bowl because they win
(01:31:13):
the division and then they have home build advantage. Like,
you just take so many extra steps after that point
to me as a Seahawks fan, like, are you serious?
Speaker 1 (01:31:21):
Yeah? And see that's that's but I believe that's the
attitude you should take more so than boy I am.
To me, it's just you go down and you say
that guy's nonsense. What you've said is first of all,
completely unprovable, and second of all, it's just based on
you probably being a huge fan of the Rams.
Speaker 3 (01:31:41):
Right, But even if that is the case, it is
and the general conversation was about that and not how
good the Seahawks were last year, which I feel like
it kind of is. It is there hasn't been enough
recognition for how historically good that defense was, for how
you know, amazing of a season Jack Smith and Jigbaht
sure some amazing plays. How I think now Mike McDonald's
(01:32:05):
the best coach in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:32:06):
I totally agree.
Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
So none of that conversation is happening.
Speaker 3 (01:32:09):
It's all about, Oh, the Rams were so close and
they probably should have won, and now they're gonna definitely win.
Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
That ticks me off because we didn't get our time
in the limelight. But do you think it should tick
you off? Yeah, okay, I do. That's fair. That's totally fair.
I personally, it just used to grite me. And again,
maybe you're just a more mature man.
Speaker 7 (01:32:30):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:32:31):
I think what it might be is just that I
am somebody who has grown to appreciate what I have
in life a little bit more that I don't need
that validation from ESPN and Fox Sports one. Yeah, but
I think it's a really interesting conversation. Here's where I
will say, though I'll be a little bit hypocritical, why
(01:32:51):
it does matter a little bit. I think sports is
a major part of history, like and that may seem
like an obvious thing, but especially here in America. Here
in America, where we have four massive sports and a
couple other big ones, we have the ability to make
that part of our history. And I will say the
(01:33:13):
record books will probably look back on that Seahawks team
and you will look at the DVOA and you'll look
back at the dominance in two of the three postseason games,
and the.
Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Fact you had a pretty big lead against the Rams until.
Speaker 1 (01:33:26):
A certain quarterback did a silly little thing and you
still won that game. I gotta be honest, I never
felt like they weren't going to win that game, but
it is what it is, whether you feel that way or.
Speaker 2 (01:33:36):
Not, ended up being a four point game.
Speaker 1 (01:33:38):
I think history will probably look back and say, hey,
this is what those Seattle Seahawks were, and they deserve
to be in the conversation of some of the best
Super Bowl winning teams of all time. But if it's
completely dismissed, it may take longer for that to happen.
And I actually do think that matters. I do think
(01:33:59):
it's important that they are, for lack of a better term,
considered one of the pantheon teams because if you look
at this numbers and if you look at the teams
they beat. Having one of the toughest divisions in NFL
history might be a little too strong, but of the
recent divisions, one of the best Arizona Cardinals also played
(01:34:19):
in it. But that matters too for historical contact does
so I get it from that perspective. I just my
personal advice to Seattle Seahawks fans is just appreciate what
you have. There are going to be people who don't
appreciate how good Seattle Washington is. There are going to
(01:34:40):
be people who don't appreciate how good the Seattle Seahawks are.
And some of it has to do with they need
to sell. Hey, andrews, wor's the super Bowl this year?
Who has the Super Bowl this year?
Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
The Seattle Seahawks, ESPN, Oh oh sorry, I didn't That's okay.
Speaker 1 (01:34:57):
The ESPN Los Angeles, Yeah, has the Super Bowl. If
you don't think that's part of the conversation, of course
it is. So maybe just maybe don't take it as seriously.
We'll react to your text. Next on four ninety four

Now back to Ian Furness on your Home for the Huskies,
Cracking and The Twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's

Speaker 1 (01:35:34):
Chris Crawford and for Ian Forness, just real quick, really
appreciate everyone who listened. I say it every time I
get to do this, but is always just a real
treat for me to get to do something that I've
wanted to do my entire life. And getting to work
with a good buddy like anders and talk on the
station that really shaped me as a sports fan is
(01:35:55):
always something that is. And I know this isn't me
being a charity case or anything. I'm not having my
name drawn. I guess I've done well enough that they
keep asking me to do it. But every time I
do it, I'm surprised, and I'm always.
Speaker 2 (01:36:07):
Really really appreciative of it.
Speaker 1 (01:36:09):
And Andrews is currently doing a disco dance because he's
just that afraid of emotion, and I love it. I
love it. It's what makes him one of the very best.
Speaker 4 (01:36:20):
You saw me cry last year when Gino hit the home.
Speaker 1 (01:36:23):
I sure did. I mean, we were both just an
emotional wreck.
Speaker 2 (01:36:26):
Let's take a look at some texts.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
Yeah, why don't we?
Speaker 5 (01:36:29):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
Jip here Chris.
Speaker 1 (01:36:30):
Always nice to hear you on the radio.
Speaker 2 (01:36:31):
Man.
Speaker 9 (01:36:32):
What I'm afraid of is that the Mariners will make
the playoffs. I firmly believe that, and then that'll be enough.
That'll be enough to bring everybody back to run it back,
because look, we just made the playoffs or won the
division from back to back time, so the first time ever,
we're on the right track. But it just we're just
we're not. We're ran by a freaking spreadsheet. This is
boring baseball. And I'm not saying we won't. If we
ever win the World Series like this, then it I'll
(01:36:55):
admit that I'm wrong, but this is just boring.
Speaker 1 (01:36:58):
I don't completely disagree. I don't, especially the nice thing
at the beginning, I really know. I definitely don't disagree
with that, but you know.
Speaker 2 (01:37:05):
It's fair.
Speaker 1 (01:37:06):
It is.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
It is.
Speaker 1 (01:37:10):
It is a frustrating experience being a Seattle Mariner fan
because you can see so much positive and then you
can see there's so much work to be done and
you just wonder if that work's ever going to get done.
It's totally fair. And the spreadsheet baseball accusation, I don't
think it's an unfair one. I don't, but there's lots
of teams that are run through spreadsheets. The Dodgers just
(01:37:32):
happen to have a spreadsheet that is paid out of
twenty four care at Gold and has probably the greatest
baseball player of all time on the roster. But they're
super into analytics. Everybody super into it. It's just it's
not working as well in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (01:37:44):
It's some other places.
Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
Yeah, to sex, I'm even more annoyed than Anders. I
have never seen a more dominant team, super Bowl winning
squad get no love in the offseason. Their obsession and
growing that market and fan base is strange to me,
so annoying. Can kids that county? I'll add on to
that the thing I didn't even mention that I meant to.
(01:38:06):
Could you imagine if the roles were flipped, Say the
Seahawks beat the Rams once and they got second in
the division, but they still made it to the Super
Bowl and lost, or sorry, made it to the Edison
Championship Game and lost to the Rams, and the Rams
went on to win in dominant fashion against the Patriots.
Would anyone have any love for the Seahawks at all
(01:38:29):
this offseason?
Speaker 1 (01:38:30):
No, that's totally fair that you would look at the
players they lost in notion, no Kenneth Walker and all
of that stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:38:36):
They're gonna take a huge drop off.
Speaker 1 (01:38:38):
And that would be frustrating. And yet, just me personally,
it wouldn't bug me. It just wouldn't bug me because
I know that ultimately the results are going to speak
for themselves, and I would believe that the roster they had.
Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
You're a patient and grounded man.
Speaker 1 (01:38:53):
I am a patient and grounded man, which is what
sports talk radio is all of that.
Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
Two three Bob Skeeter, his brother Daryl, and his other
brother Daryl.
Speaker 1 (01:39:04):
Skeeter and Skeeter in Houston definitely hook up every once
in a while, not hook up, hook up. Well, what
they do is none of my business, but there's there's
definitely a nice relationship there. They go and uh meet
a few times for sure, lots of nice texts. Again,
my brother in law is an Astros fan from the
four two five and gets very upset when you put
(01:39:25):
an asterisk marks on it. I totally understand. I would
be furious too, I think, because ultimately, I do believe
they should have been punished more. Yeah, but I don't
believe that's why they won the World Series.
Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
Really.
Speaker 1 (01:39:37):
I believe they won the World Series because they had
the best roster they have.
Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
It.
Speaker 1 (01:39:41):
Certainly they had an advantage, but I think lots of
teams were doing what the Astros were maybe not as
loud and maybe not as effectively. Yeah, they did it effectively,
But ultimately I hate the Houston Astros. Okay, I hate them.
Speaker 4 (01:39:57):
Do you hate them because of the cheating?
Speaker 7 (01:39:59):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:39:59):
I hate them because they didn't give me a job
about ten years ago. And also, no, that's that's true,
by the way, but it's mostly just because I think
the biggest division rival, like it's the I actually don't
believe they're the Mariner's biggest rival anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
I believe that's the Toronto Blue Jays.
Speaker 1 (01:40:16):
Yeah, but I do think that I'll always hate them,
but I don't think that's why they didn't win the
World Series three six.
Speaker 3 (01:40:23):
You're so biased. You're giving Mike m the best coach
because of a Super Bowl win. Don't be that guy.
Speaker 1 (01:40:30):
Can you just think about what you just said there
for just a second, Bud, Like, maybe what you mean
to say is recency biased because it's more recent than
some other guys. But that's like saying, oh, you only
think that the Huskies are better than the Cougars because
the Huskies win all the time. Yeah, yeah, that's how
(01:40:52):
that works.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
The better team wins, So that's how that works.
Speaker 1 (01:40:56):
Mike McDonald won the Super Bowl because he was the
best coach and put together a perfect game plan. Yes
against the Honestly, they should have won that game.
Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
By forty points.
Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
Yeah, if they just would have finished by the way.
I still loved that I called on locked on what
exactly was going to happen prior to that game. It
is one of my favorite I am wrong often, but
I was absolutely right that there were going to be
a bunch of field goals for the Seahawks and not
a lot of points for the Patriots, and it certainly
worked out three to six to zero. A Rose Arena
(01:41:28):
needs to go trade him now while he's an All star.
Also trade away JP for a strong, right handed hitting
third baseman. Would it be crazy to see Suarez again
third times of charm? I mean it would be fun
see I do it. I would consider it. Sure. I
do think that this clubhouse can use a little bit
of fun too. They just look miserable, yes, and again,
(01:41:50):
if they were playing well, you'd say they look pretty
and stoic. But they're not playing well and they look
like they're miserable. They just don't look like they're having fun.
As for the to trade a Rose Arena thing. I
would have to get a really good left fielder, man
like I would have to. The Giants would have no
interest in a Ros Arena for young Holy So because
(01:42:12):
why would you trade for a pending free agent for it.
It would have to be to a contender. And then
it would have to be something where you acquire a
really good left fielder and you're getting either good prospects
to make another trade, or you're getting something that can
help you this year, all right, a bullpen piece or
a starting third baseman or something of that.
Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
ILK.
Speaker 1 (01:42:34):
I really struggle trading for a team that's been a
bad offense most of the year. The guy who's been
the best offensive player right significant Mark, But I get it.
The defense has been so bad and you can't help
but question the effort after those two absolute lolli gigs
that he had on Friday and Saturday. It breaks my
(01:42:56):
heart to say it, but those are unacceptable place They're
just they just are. So I understand it, and.
Speaker 3 (01:43:02):
Maybe a different manager doesn't allow that to happen and
gets a little bit more out of him.
Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
Four two five put this is astros apologist in the
nearest trash game.
Speaker 2 (01:43:09):
Yeah, baby, fair fair.
Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
I never thought I would come across as an astro.
Speaker 4 (01:43:14):
No, he's talking about you. I think you talked about
the texture. Who was saying that?
Speaker 1 (01:43:17):
Oh that's fair, Yeah, that's fair. I just uh, I definitely.
I hate the Houston Astros so much. And it's the
nice thing about the Houston Astros two guys is they
are on the deep.
Speaker 4 (01:43:29):
Their line and they're gonna be bad for going.
Speaker 1 (01:43:31):
To get worse. They have not done a good job
with their farm system. Jose Altuve has completely cratered.
Speaker 3 (01:43:38):
You know, it's interesting. We had you know, sarah'son maybe
a month or two ago. Oh yeah, we asked what
happened to them?
Speaker 4 (01:43:44):
Why are they this bad?
Speaker 3 (01:43:46):
And he mentioned being the nerd that he is, saying
that they fired a bunch of their nerds.
Speaker 2 (01:43:51):
They did, they did.
Speaker 3 (01:43:52):
They were one of the guys on the front foot
of the saber metrics kind of leading into that kind
of stuff in the late twenty tents, right, And that's
what made them such a just an absolute powerhouse. It
wasn't there. They didn't really have true superstars on that team.
Maybe Carlos Korea when he was in his prime, but
even Jose al tuove I know he won an MVP
(01:44:14):
shot on air and Judge, but like, I wouldn't.
Speaker 4 (01:44:17):
Consider that a true superstar.
Speaker 3 (01:44:18):
He's just a really good second basement, right, So they
they got the most out of their pitching staff more
than anything else, and that's what's kind of gone downhill.
Speaker 1 (01:44:27):
By the way, the fact Ian looks so much like
David Louise that it is crazy to me and for
those of you who are unfamiliar, he was a Brazilian
soccer player.
Speaker 4 (01:44:35):
The hair is nowhere close.
Speaker 2 (01:44:37):
The hair is.
Speaker 1 (01:44:37):
Pretty close if you see it done. If you look
at Ian for noo, I may have said Ian. By
the way, Boyd, I was like, what, there is no
similarity at all?
Speaker 2 (01:44:49):
Do you see it with Eno a little bit?
Speaker 1 (01:44:50):
With the the David Louise with the hair.
Speaker 2 (01:44:52):
A little bit?
Speaker 1 (01:44:53):
Okay, yeah it's not the same, but yeah, I could
see it's similar. And by the way, Eno is one
of the smartest people I have ever and I hate
him because he's too smart.
Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
For my own good.
Speaker 4 (01:45:06):
Sorry, i'll leave two six here.
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
I agree with Andrews on this one, but the disrespect
might actually be a good thing for this Seahawks team.
That is where I completely agree for me as a fan.
I'm annoyed. I think it's actually a good thing for
the players because they're like, all right, doubt us, go ahead,
see what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:45:24):
That's another thing I meant to bring up to is that,
like anything that can bring a chip to their shoulder too,
is wonderful.
Speaker 2 (01:45:30):
Now I sometimes get annoyed with the chip on the
shoulder thing.
Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
Dan Hurley from Yukon keeps saying nobody believed it us
after you're winning like three straight championship or two straight championships.
That's annoying. That's annoying to hear nobody believed in us.
It's also kind of harmless, I guess at the end
of the day. But whatever motivates you. Great text here
that I lost. But basically they were saying that we
were ignoring defense in our trade talk. I think that's
(01:45:57):
fair that we could have gone a little bit more
defense heavy. It's just hard right now because those guys
aren't really the guys who are gonna be available, like
usually elite defensive players aren't available on the trade market,
you know.
Speaker 4 (01:46:11):
And becoming more and more rare, to be honest.
Speaker 1 (01:46:13):
Well, that's the other thing too, is there's far less
of a focus here, interesting one here for two five
three Brian Reynolds. Boys, let's go make that deal. Brian
Reynolds has been rumored as a Seattle Mariners target. I
think since I've been coming on this station.
Speaker 4 (01:46:27):
Wait, Tony one, I think it was around that time.
Speaker 1 (01:46:29):
Yeah, and you know what the thing with the Pirates is,
I think that they really want to contend. They finally
are taking this a little seriously. The Connor Griffin injury, unfortunately,
might change the timeline a little bit. I'd love Brian Reynolds.
I think he's the high floor type of guy that
the Seattle Mariners need to target. It would be a
(01:46:51):
prohibitive cost, not prohibitive. It would be you'd have to
give up one of the top one hundred guys and
probably some other stuff with it as well.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
But it makes sense, and it.
Speaker 1 (01:47:01):
Would be that's the type of guy you could get
and then you could move Randy a Rose Arena for
either to Dhport.
Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
Just move. Yeah, you know, if you wanted to.
Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
Go get because you know, if you wanted to get
like a really talented young relief pitcher for the team,
or if you wanted to upgrade at third base and
get somebody who's cost controlled that it would be easier
to move a Rose arena if you have a Reynolds there.
But ultimately, what I'd like to see is just Randy
a Rose arena be the designated hitter.
Speaker 5 (01:47:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:47:31):
I would just love to see it, because that's where
he profiles best.
Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
Yeah, and I think I don't think you're going to
get Randy's offense on the trade market period.
Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
I thousand percent agree, like as good as as good
as C. J.
Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
Abrams is. If you go trade.
Speaker 1 (01:47:47):
Randyo Rose arena, you're taking a neutral step at best. Yeah,
because you just haven't gotten enough offensive consistency and because
of the issues with Raillian Canzone against lefties in particular,
I don't see that outfield working if you are to
trade a Randy Arosi.
Speaker 3 (01:48:05):
Yeah, it's weird because everyone's kind of talking about all
the offense needs to get better and we need to
get better right handed hitting and versus left handed pitching.
Speaker 4 (01:48:11):
Sure, so let's trade are one of our only right hitters. Yeah,
let's do that.
Speaker 1 (01:48:16):
And you know what that all is, Anders, It's that
people are mad at Randy a Rosary, which I agree
with and I totally understand it. But boy, this guy
has the only helped the Marriors three six. Love this suggestion.
Something I completely forgot about. What about Matt Chapman for
the Giants?
Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
So Chapman is hurt right now?
Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
It makes sense if the Giants are willing to eat
some money here because Matt Chapman is signed to a
very healthy, hefty deal. But Matt Chapman would improve your
defense at third base so much.
Speaker 2 (01:48:46):
He's not the Scott.
Speaker 1 (01:48:48):
Rowland that he was a few years ago, but boy,
is he better than JP Crawford. By the way, a
few people suggesting the JP Crawford trade thing, No one's
gonna have any interest in training for JP Crawford. Guys,
it's a pending free agent who can't play defense.
Speaker 4 (01:49:04):
And doesn't have really a ton of power.
Speaker 1 (01:49:06):
He doesn't have a ton of power. It's all on
bas skill and that doesn't matter. It's one of the
most important skills for a baseball player. But you're not
gonna get I just can't see JP Crawford being traded
in part two because he's such an important part of
the clubhouse.
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
You know, it was a really important part of the clubhouse.
Speaker 1 (01:49:24):
Who I guess Dick Fane and I'm going to talk
to him next Sports Radio ninety three point three, Kidjerff,
Chris Crawford and for Ian forness Ian again will be
back Monday. I'm sure he will have plenty of fun
tales about his uh getting to enjoy some time.
Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
Listen to the entire time he has gone.
Speaker 1 (01:49:48):
Right, Oh, I'm sure. I can't imagine that the station
ever changed. And I know he leaves it on from
three to seven because he talks to me in private
a lot about the guy that he's the most impressed with,
jealous of, jealous of, and wants to be in life
is Dick Fane, And I can talk to him now.
Speaker 6 (01:50:06):
Hi, Dick, Why is that?
Speaker 1 (01:50:08):
Oh? He has lots of reasons. It's a little I
know he's got to be jealous of your golf game,
like he has to be.
Speaker 6 (01:50:16):
He's not jealous of my golf game.
Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
You don't think so, No, I don't think.
Speaker 6 (01:50:20):
Well, I don't know. I haven't played in a while,
so we'd have to.
Speaker 8 (01:50:23):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 6 (01:50:24):
But my golf game was actually okay today.
Speaker 8 (01:50:26):
I went out there and played a few holes before
the show got loosened up, and I'm ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:50:31):
It must be nice having an afternoon show that he
can do that that is good.
Speaker 8 (01:50:34):
Yes, yeah, it is good because when I had the
morning show, I was so exhausted when I got off
the air that all I wanted to do was sleep.
And then you just you don't want it like Chuck's feeling.
And now like you, you don't want to rev back
up again if you've already REVVD up for the day
and then you're just exhausted and you go to bed.
It's really hard to, like, at two o'clock in the afternoon,
(01:50:54):
say okay, I got to rev back up again and
do something.
Speaker 7 (01:50:57):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:50:58):
So I worked the five am to nine am shift
for roadal World all the time, and so I totally
relate to like you think, oh no, we got all
this time to do stuff, and what you have time
to do is take the fifteen steps to your bed.
Speaker 6 (01:51:11):
Exactly right.
Speaker 9 (01:51:13):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
Speaking of golf, have you have you played Sailors Cliffs
at all?
Speaker 8 (01:51:17):
Mister Fangs, I have not played Sailors Cliffs, one of
the one of the few. It's on a short list
of courses that I want to play in the state
and have not yet played in the States.
Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
So it's a challenging one. I think you would play
it just fine. But it's uh, it's also a really
nice one. So if you ever make your way out
to my neck of the woods and we play, I
want to play some golf, we could definitely do that.
Speaker 8 (01:51:40):
Sounds good.
Speaker 1 (01:51:40):
Did you have a chance to listen to our trade
talk this this afternoon?
Speaker 8 (01:51:45):
I heard a bit. I heard the name c J
abramsun out.
Speaker 6 (01:51:49):
I believe.
Speaker 8 (01:51:50):
Yeah, you know, Anders didn't bring up a good point.
He doesn't hit from the side we want him to hit. Yeah, right,
So I just thought, you know, what the hell, let's
just go get James Wood instead of ceg.
Speaker 4 (01:52:00):
Left team might as well get there.
Speaker 6 (01:52:01):
I mean, let's just get a better let's just get
a better one.
Speaker 8 (01:52:04):
It was. It's funny because there's there's three guys that
kind of jumped to mind that I didn't. I had
no idea who they were when I went and saw
them in person for the first time at T Mobile.
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
Parks Last Safe, Go Nice.
Speaker 8 (01:52:18):
The first was Nelson Cruise, like a young young Nelson Cruise,
and I saw him hit a ball that hasn't landed yet,
and I was like, who the bleep.
Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
Is this guy?
Speaker 6 (01:52:29):
Right? And then we would find out of the next twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:52:32):
Years, Rangers, Nelson CRUs.
Speaker 6 (01:52:34):
Oh my god, different beasts. Then second one.
Speaker 8 (01:52:37):
I was sitting right behind the plate a young maybe rookie,
maybe early second year Freddie Freeman, and I was like, damn.
Speaker 6 (01:52:46):
Okay, I don't pay much attention to the National League.
Why do I pay much attention in the National League?
Speaker 8 (01:52:50):
We all hardly ever play anybody in the National League,
and we're not competing for playoff spots against anybody in
the National League. I got to pay tens attention. Same
thing with James Wood, he's the third. I was just like, oh, dude, yeah,
this guy's a specimen.
Speaker 1 (01:53:03):
I mean he literally he looks like a guy who
could be competing with Dante Fowler for age rush.
Speaker 6 (01:53:09):
Yes, like the wrong sport.
Speaker 1 (01:53:11):
Yeah, he's just an absolute behemoth of a human. But
the ball just absolutely jumps off his back. You know
what's funny. The first guy I had that I thought
of of that was when I got sent by ESPN
High School rip to that one. They sent me down
to the Perfect Game, All American Classic, and I just
saw this guy hitting laser after laser against the Wrigley wall,
(01:53:35):
and it was Byron Buxton in high school and I
was like, this guy's got a chance to be good.
Speaker 6 (01:53:40):
And then one of the great high school players of
all time.
Speaker 8 (01:53:42):
All right, I mean when you just talk about the
hype out of high school Byron, Buxton was like one
of maybe five you know, he's like he was like
almost Griffy level.
Speaker 1 (01:53:50):
And it's so crazy he wasn't the first pick of
that draft. Like I understand why he wasn't. There was
some some signability stuff in the fact that there was
a uh, some pretty good pitchers, but Mark Appell is
one of the I don't remember if that was the
exact draft, Yeah, from good old Stanford, but there the
college arms have attended. Oh that was the Carlos Kareage
(01:54:13):
draft actually, so that's an interesting, uh interesting little debate.
You would argue maybe Karrea has had career better I
would say Korea because he's been healthier, but also, you know,
didn't cheat, So there's an interesting Hey, we had a
long conversation about this, and just before we get into
what you got going on on the show, Anders and
I were having a conversation about how much it should
(01:54:35):
matter to sports fans whether or not the team that
you like gets national respect, and I'm curious where you
side on that.
Speaker 6 (01:54:43):
I heard this conversation.
Speaker 8 (01:54:44):
I'm glad you brought it up because I love anders Hurst,
but I completely disagree with this take on the Rams thing,
and I'll tell you why. I do think the Rams
were the better football team last year, but that doesn't
mean be good. But the Super Bowl champion isn't always
the best football team. And maybe by maybe we proved
by February we were the better football team. I mean
(01:55:05):
we were at home, so that certainly helped, but we
did for the most part, dominate that game, so I
can be sold that by the end of the season
we were the best football football team in the NFL.
I do not believe we were in the regular season.
I think when we played when we played the Rams,
the first two games, they led. I look this up
because I heard your conversation. The Rams led for eighty
(01:55:27):
point four percent of the two games against the Seahawks.
It was tied for ten point six percent, and the
Seahawks led for nine percent of.
Speaker 6 (01:55:35):
The two games. And the I mean they were a
dominant team over.
Speaker 8 (01:55:38):
The Seahawks during the course of the regular season, but
it flipped in the playoffs. And the whole buzz for
the Rams. I think it's awesome. I want more.
Speaker 6 (01:55:47):
I want I.
Speaker 8 (01:55:48):
Want Aaron I mean, I don't want Aaron Donald to sign,
but if you were to sign, the buzz would be
even more.
Speaker 6 (01:55:54):
I want all the pressure.
Speaker 8 (01:55:56):
I want all the eyeballs because do you know how
many teams actually win the Super Bowl when they are
the favorites to win the Super Bowl. I think it's
happened twice in the last twenty years, and the quarterbacks
were Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady. Other than that, the
favorite to win the super Bowl does not win the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:56:15):
Well, yeah, I agree with you in terms of like
it's better for the players, but for me as a fan,
I want to get the recognition from from everyone. I
want the conversation to be about how good the Seahawks were,
not how lucky they go.
Speaker 2 (01:56:27):
You know what, my man take away from that?
Speaker 7 (01:56:29):
Though Ishane loves you, I love, and I love and
I love and so much that I'll be rooting for Argentina.
Speaker 1 (01:56:40):
Yeah, let's go about that.
Speaker 8 (01:56:42):
Let's have to pull it out. But here's what I want.
I mean, I want a total dominant performance by Spain.
Speaker 6 (01:56:48):
I want one.
Speaker 8 (01:56:49):
I want one to nothing in the stoppage time and
then Argentina does what they do.
Speaker 3 (01:56:54):
Want the Rams versus the Seahawks is what you want.
Speaker 8 (01:56:57):
They score, Yeah, they have a rashiki heat, but turn
touchdown and stop it and stop it's time. It goes
to it goes to extra time, one to one, and
then they score.
Speaker 6 (01:57:07):
I don't want to go to shootout.
Speaker 8 (01:57:08):
No, I want a messy assist Arkle to win it
two to one and stop it.
Speaker 1 (01:57:14):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (01:57:15):
I like it, da, I can see that happening.
Speaker 1 (01:57:17):
Will you record yourself for the final moments of the game.
