Speaker 2 (01:56):
I actually was here eight six days ago on Saturday
for Day one one, and yesterday was the first day
we saw pads. Guys getting after it a little bit.
And today fans are back here as well, which is great.
And we've got George Hallani coming out here in a second.
We're gonna check in with him. We got a lot
to get to today. We're gonna replay the Mike McDonald
interview from yesterday a little bit later in this hour,
but uh, I wanted to check in with uh, with

(02:18):
this guy like this, George, George right here?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
How are you man?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Good to see you. There you go, We'll hand that
to you. We've been We're live on live on kJ

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Man? Can you hear me? Okay? Oh? Actually you know
what I need to turn you on? How's that now?
I can hear you? How's it going?

Speaker 4 (02:36):
Pretty good?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
I've been wanting to talk to you for a while,
and a lot of fans wanted to get to know
you a little bit as well.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
You had a heck of a year last year. You're
coming in here.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
You're one of those guys that Schneider and uh, Mike
McDonald love, kind of an undrafted guy that's gonna come
in and just grind away year three.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
How different is it for you?

Speaker 7 (02:54):
So?

Speaker 8 (02:54):
Honestly, it's it's a lot different, honestly, just because the
amount of reps. I just been getting these past, you know,
a couple of practices, but just trying to make the
best of it and just just what they have in
planning for me.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
You we enjoyed something so yesterday, do you you're running back,
So it's a little different than some of the other guys.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Do you like when the pads come on?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Oh yeah, okay, I figured you with I figured you,
so pads come on yesterday one of the highlights for
US media nerds. We're walking around, you know, we're not sweating,
We're just kind of watching you guys the one on
one pass rush drills, and I think the consensus was
in the one session it was best on best you
and Ernest Jones going going ahead to head, iron sharpens

(03:39):
iron going against him.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Is that Is that how you gonna look at it? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (03:42):
Yeah, for sure. I mean I felt like it's another day.
We have more one on one pass pro wrets, which
is pretty good. Yeah, but it definitely definitely helps us
get better just to see, you know, what we need
to work on. For me, just being able to take
out that space and then step to contact versus you know,

(04:03):
just waiting or just opening up with that open step,
thank you, and then I get a.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Smoothie in here by the way, and then.

Speaker 8 (04:14):
Being able just to be physical when it comes to
you know, team periods, that's when it matters most.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, for you, I mentioned it's the third year and
you had a really nice career at Boise State, really
good career. Injured, old, banged up, right, Like, got an
injury and then that kind of sidetrack you and stuff
like that, the journey along the way to get to
the point where you're now. And I think it's safe
to say I don't want to You're an established NFL player,
you know what your role is. We just talked about that.

(04:42):
What was the journey like to get here? How challenging
was it? How many downs did you have? How many
lows did you have where you had to try to
find a way to pick yourself up.

Speaker 8 (04:49):
Yeah, I mean it was really challenging in college, just
with a lot of injuries. So I think being able
to be more proactive with my body, getting in the
training room, working on things to prevent certain injuries was
the biggest thing. So just getting with the trainers like
Michael Tang that's one of my trainers that I go
to every time, and it working with you know, people

(05:11):
like the acupuncture Lady Ming Ming, getting right with the
chiropractor as well, and then doing other stuff outside the
facility where I can, uh, whatever it is, whether it's
hot yoga or just working on the body. Focusing on
the body what I need to work on, Uh, definitely
has helped a lot.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Is there anything you don't do then you did? You
just ran though?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
You just did, like the gambul acupuncture, chiropractor, weights, nutrition,
what did I mean, hot yoga, this like, but that's
the life of an NFL player, right like, that's that's
what did you learn about that level? Because when you're
playing I mean Boise State, great program, good everything there.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
What did you learn about this level? What was so
different about this level?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Is it just what you talked about it's you're you're
not a college student, obviously, but what did you learn
about this level?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
That transition?

Speaker 8 (06:01):
I mean just meeting the people, the players around, the resources,
being able to talk to people about you know, what
we have and you know all these things are free
for us. So just utilizing it and just making the
best of it has helped a lot for me.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
You got to play in a Super Bowl and win
a Super Bowl? What was that like?

Speaker 8 (06:22):
It was once in a lifetime hopefully not hopefully not
for me. Not for me, you know, it was just
it was just to be out there and be a
part of that. It was a blessing for me just
because you know, I never knew when my name was
going to be called, just because I was on I R.
And then going into that and having the whole game

(06:43):
plan dialed and then knowing my role going into that,
It was really exciting just to go in there and
execute every time I was on the field, being able to,
you know, have that trust from the coaches like, oh yeah,
he can go in there, he can make sure he's
stout in the past, protection, whatever they whatever they need
need to do, go out there and do it well.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
And I asked what it was like, and I haven't
asked many guys that, you know. I mean, I grew
up in Seattle. I grew up a Seahawk fan and
then covered the team for many, many years for a
TV station in town. Don't do that anymore, but did that.
But I remember going to the Super Bowl in twenty
thirteen as a media member, just as a media person
and all the hooplus running, but then the game in

(07:22):
New York and just sitting up there like.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Wow, all the lights going off and all that. It's surreal,
isn't it? Isn't it?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Because they want to say you want to treat like
every other football game, it's not, though it can't be.
When did it feel like or any other football game?

Speaker 8 (07:38):
Shoot, honestly, it was a lot different, just because that
week leading up to the game, there was so many
things we had to do as a team, like all
this media stuff, all these different events we had to
attend as a team. But you know, finally getting to
it once the ball was kicked and you know, playing

(08:01):
in that game, it was just for us. It's just
another game. We get to go out there and win.
Like guys is out there flying around, defense, dominant as usual.
But you know, it was the same team I seen
all year, none different. So it was what I expected.
That comes from the head coach, doesn't it. What's he

(08:24):
like he's for a player, for a player, he's really unique.
He knows what's best for the team, what we need
to work on. Especially as an offense, you're getting the
best looks every practice just because he wants to see
every situation in that certain place. So you're getting all

(08:45):
types of blitz, all types of zone looks versus one
look and we run you know, the same plays, similar
plays every day. Just nailing the little details on the offense.
So just being able to be doubting and hone in
on every detail like from pressure, different structures, whatever the
defense is in. Uh, just being able to dial in
on that has helped us a lot on offense with details, George.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
One of the things that we had Mike McDonald sat
down with us yesterday after practice and we talked to
him and he he had mentioned this to us in
the media a few days ago too, that Brian Flurry
coming in. One of the things that he's noticed is
Mike said. Mike McDonald said, I'm learning from him every day,
which is wild because it's the first time offensive coordinator.
But the sponge that's McDonald is bringing that in. And

(09:29):
we asked him, like, what are you learning and he
talked about details, like little details. That's not an indictment
on Quinn Kubiak. He's the head coach of the NFL now,
for goodness sakes, right, but what's the differences between Flurry
and what you've seen here in the past the last
couple of years.

Speaker 8 (09:41):
It's a it's similar but different, just because you know,
we have certain plays from last year similar and then
having a mixer with you know where he was coming
from resiners, So it's it's a it's a good mix
for us to see, you know, what we need to

(10:05):
work on as the offense, you know, whether it's the
run game, pass game, but being able to whatever we run,
just be able to emphasize that.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
The I don't expect you to give away trade secrets,
but one thing that's us knuckleheads are noticing, feels like
the running backs see the ball a lot more in
the pass game. Is that by coincidence that just what
you guys are working on right now, or is this
a guy that maybe wants to get you guys out
of the backfield involved little bit more in the passing game.

Speaker 8 (10:33):
I think that that just comes with the details. You know,
when when you're a running back and you have great
eyes with pattern recognition of defense and their blitzes and
tendencies with the mixed downs or whatever down, it is
like you you start to notice, oh, they're not coming,
so you know, we got to get out now. And
being available in a pass game is going to be

(10:54):
huge for this offense for sure.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Wonder who that helps on the running back room. Let
me think I.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Think I think he might wear thirty six? Am I
right in that regard.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
That's right up your alley pass pro, catching the ball,
special teams, all those things.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Right. So al right, what's in the smoothie? I got it?
What's in the smoothie today?

Speaker 8 (11:09):
So we got a mango orange juice vanilla away and yeah,
that's about it.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Is that just a post lunch prepractice, little hydration. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (11:18):
Usually I don't eat breakfast, so I usually have like
a smoothie, but you know, today I definitely had to
make sure I got to break this.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
So are you guys, Are you guys back in past today?

Speaker 9 (11:26):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Yeah, you gotta let's you gotta get ready there? All right?
All right?

Speaker 2 (11:31):
George Holane love having him, come bye, Thanks all for
stopping by. Congratulations on a heck of a start to
your career. It's one of the great stories out here.
But there's so many good stories, you're one of them.
Have a great season. Thanks for coming, b I appreciate it.
Thank you, George Holane. We'll let them have a smoothie.
Come back with more. Mike McDonald coming up next.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Now back to Ian Forness at the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center and our special coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought
to you by the Boweling Classic Sports Radio ninety three
on Tree JR FM.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
They want to mention one thing here. In just a second,
we're gonna hear from Mike McDonald from yesterday. I just
had a really fun conversation, did you Millen and I
with with Mike McDonald Andrews. I think we're gonna do
this Monday or Tuesday. We're giving away a pretty cool prize.
In fact, when I was checking in today, one of
the security guys was saying, hey, man, I heard this

(12:24):
morning you guys are giving away a Hard Knocks cornhole set.
And I said, yeah, right, I said that's what they
tell us, and he goes, that sounded pretty cool, and
I said, he says, are you doing it today? I said, no,
I'm not doing it today, but thanks for asking. But
I'll tell you right now, the Seahawks. I can tell
you the Seahawks aren't celebrating anymore. They're getting back to work.
Go inside the building with itsfending Super Bowl champions as

(12:45):
Hard Knocks training camp with the Seahawks, giving an all
access looking at the coaching, stars and players ballant to
earn their spot for another championship season. Don't miss the
premiere Tuesday, August four, six pm streaming. Exucis to be
on HBO. Max is also gonna be a local watch
party Victory Hall in the box Yard on August fourth.
Doors opening two episode starts at six. I bring all
that up. We will give away that Cornhole set probably

(13:07):
Monday or Tuesday. I have intel that I'm gonna share
on Monday or Tuesday from what Hard Knocks is doing.
All right, I like that insight. I've been been grinding
on some of the guys and trying to figure out
find out what they're doing. So I got that. So
I'll kind of give you guys a little heads up
before the premiere on Tuesdays. That sound good, and we'll
do that in conjunction with giving away the cornhole set.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
All right, all of that set.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Mike McDonald joined us yesterday after the first padded practice
email and sat down with me as well and Mike
McDonald's stopping by. First thing we asked him was how
was that padded practice?

Speaker 7 (13:43):
That was a great day today. I'm really really happy
with today's practice. Guys came out with great intent off
coming off the off day morning practice. Uh, it was physical,
that took care of another, We sharpened each other, we
got after it, competed, tucked a little smack. It was,
it was, It was great. It's really good execution going on.
So I can't wait to watch the tape. What's the

(14:05):
fine line between the physical nature? You want to see?
There was one small scuffle, where do you Because it's changed,
there'll be some scuffles as we go. I mean, we
want to take obviously when we talk about twelve is
one like that. That's kind of our guiding principles. That's
kind of a non negotiable.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
But you kind of know.

Speaker 7 (14:22):
When you see it, like when there's fair physicality and
and ones where you're not taking care of your teammate.
And so we obviously want to minimize the ladder and
the guys did a great job of that, and so
I think I think that's when the scuffles start to happen.
It's when they feel like there's unnecessary shots, which at
some point in camp that's it's inevitable to a certain degree.
But our guys on the whole they've been they've been

(14:43):
great with it.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Nice. What's the biggest challenge that you have? I guess
sat right down between the eyes, I love it.

Speaker 10 (14:54):
Yeah, it's so what's the biggest challenge? I was I
got traded the Cowboys after they won their first Super
Bowl and and you know, Jimmy Johnson was doing all
these things to try and say, okay, let's you know, listen.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Keep the gas going. Yeah, you know.

Speaker 10 (15:08):
So, So so what are the what are the strategies
that you think are most important to connect with your team,
like coming off of yeah, yeah, just just having won
the Super Bowl and then say, okay, now I know
you're going say let's run it forward. You got that,
But what what what what challenges are are.

Speaker 7 (15:24):
I think I think we have to we I think
the first thing we try to do is kind of
put everything in perspective. So what we use with our
team was, hey, we we love what we did. We're
very proud what we did. That's gonna that's gonna be
something that we have the rest of our lives. You guys
earned it. It's freaking awesome. There's a banner, there's a troap,
but that's like a one. That's a that's an end time,

(15:45):
one time thing that you can't even if you win
to the super Bowl, you're not gonna replicate. It's a
different that's a different season. So we're gonna recognize that. However,
I think the things that we're take the most pride
in and believe the most in is like our way
of life. And part of that is by moving for
all the time and chasing edges and pushing each other
and being the best version all those types of things,

(16:05):
you know, the daily inputs, the grind of pat you know, yeah,
all these things that like we cherishes that process and
so let's go nail our process, you know. And part
of that is growing and pushing each other, having new
people and having them integrated the whole process. And so
like to me, when I'm talking about that, like that
fires me up. I think that I think our guys
are excited about that, and uh, and that's what we're

(16:26):
and that's what we're attacking.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Sometimes.

Speaker 7 (16:27):
You know, we've we've had a couple of days where
we're not probably didn't necessarily hit it in certain aspects
of our team, and we kind of just Okay, well
we missed it. Let's go, let's go. What do we
do we need to do now to go go nail
it today? And then you just kind of, you know,
take it one bit, one day at a time, try
out to be too cliche.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Mike McDonald, who is the head coach of the defending
Super Bowl champions, How does that sound?

Speaker 3 (16:47):
By the way, that sounds good? You just you just
downplayed with you a little bit.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
But I wonder at what point and how at what
point did you sit back and just say I can enjoy,
I can feel satisfied, I enjoy I have that Moniker,
I'm gonna I'm gonna get that ring. There's a great
video of you and your wife and your son on
the field. Afterwards, I think she said something like, hey,
how was your day, which is a great line by her. Yeah,
there you go, and congratulations number two on the way,

(17:13):
thank you. At what point did you just kind of
maybe sitting at home, maybe in March, maybe in February,
say damn, we did it.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Oh you know, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (17:24):
You're probably not gonna believe me, but it's just I
think it's something that it's kind of stored away that
like that happened.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Does that makes sense?

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Well, that's that's that mentality of the coach, right, you
just said it. But yeah, you're always looking forward, so
you haven't really been able to sit back and.

Speaker 7 (17:39):
Just but like, why would you want to, like you
if you guys ever in your life to sat back
and be.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Like, yes, is that ever happy? Why are you looking
at it at anything?

Speaker 7 (17:50):
You know, like I you know, like yeah, I mean
like if you like, if your son plays little league
and they win the championship, you're gonna enjoy the heck
out of it, right, and then next day you're gonna go.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
To basketball practice like you know, or.

Speaker 7 (18:03):
School is a week. You know, it's just you're gonna love.
You're gonna be proud of that that happened. But like
you're not gonna go to the beach and just be like,
you know, I'm just gonna sit here and do nothing.
I think that's an interesting No. I think I think
we can both relate to that as parents of kids.
All both our kids played collegiate football, and I think
you probably are more proud of what Jack's doing sometimes, right.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, totally totally. Like then with then what you do
and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
I don't know why Peers is looking at me when
he said something like, Dave Piers here, I haven't accomplished
anything in my career.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
So I'm just in here. Michae'donald with us right now. Yeah, Yeah,
I'm curious.

Speaker 10 (18:34):
You know, if you look at the history of schemes
in football through like decades and decades, there was a
time when the veer nobody can stop the veer or
the affirmation. Uh, the eighty five Bears were so damn unique.
And one thing about that everybody, every single scheme on
either side of the ball eventually got you know, solved

(18:54):
to some degree. How much of what you're doing where
I mean you to come in and in offensive coordinating
for the Patriots who won six Super Bowls and and
you made them look really confused? How much of your
scheming do you think, Hey, we've got to keep evolving, yeah,

(19:15):
because otherwise people are gonna figure us out.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Well.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
The first thing that I've that I've learned, and this
is coming from like football dork, that made made my
bones on a computer watching tape, like what's what's gonna
give us a chance to win games. Is our style
how we play the game. When we say twelve is one,
it's like we want to create the feeling that you're
playing more than eleven guys.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
So that that's that's.

Speaker 7 (19:39):
The chemistry, that's the connection, that's the toughness, that's the
that's the shape that you're in. You know, that's the
clarity what you have to play with. So that's kind
of like the non negotiable. But to your point with
the scheme, you have to evolve. You have to evolve
and the things you know you're gonna evolve from year
to year. In the off season when you have those
opportunities to kind of study and see where the game's going,
where you need to go, maybe maybe include some of

(20:01):
the problems they're gonna be able to solve that's coming forward. Like,
so that that's part of it. During the season, like
the seasons evolve, you know, And I think we've gotten
into an interesting spot with our division. It's like we
all kind of know each other so well that the
game plans evolve within the game, you know, right, Like
you know that they they'll do things that you write,
oh shoot, they're doing that because they realize that we

(20:23):
do this, Okay, so now we have to So there's
like these they do these little marginal like incremental evolutions
that happen in like shorter timeframes too. So but it's
kind of like kind of the question like do you
sit back and relax, Like no, just we just want
to I love.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Like, what's the next? What do we do? What do
we need to do next?

Speaker 7 (20:40):
Teams are going to find something to do against us,
and or we might be missing a piece or two
pieces or something. You know, the roster's gonna change. And
so I think that's just how you have to think
about it every day. You know, you just have to
try to keep finding new solutions and ways to attack
and figure out what teams are gonna try to do
it against you.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
The process then sounds like it's the it's you enjoy
the process. You It's not like we have like a
checklist on the wall, so all right, this is the process.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
What do we you know? But it's just it's a mentality.
I think about how we do.

Speaker 7 (21:06):
Business and how we go about you know, our just
kind of way life every day.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yeah, when I was thinking about doing this today, the
last time we spoke was one on one was the
day you were hired in the side room over there and.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
It was I mean, will win for you?

Speaker 2 (21:17):
And things going on, And I remember we talked a
little bit about John Snyder that day, and I want
to go back to that because here's a GM that
I mean to me in my mind. I don't know
you might would agree. He's got to be the best
GM in the football right now. He's got two super
Bowl championships with two separate quarterbacks and two separate rosters
and two separate head coaches. What he's done is remarkable
in this game. So we all know that. But for
you as a head coach when you came here, you

(21:38):
had to buy into John Schneider but also have that rapport.
When did you feel that and what is it about
him that makes him special and kind of separates him.

Speaker 7 (21:46):
Oh that's a great question. Thanks for setting that up.
He I think that I don't know if it was
a buy in. I think it was an alignment from
the get go. And we have two different styles about
how we kind of do we do, but like I
think we share a vision about like what is really.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Important to us.

Speaker 7 (22:03):
But in terms of like the atmosphere we're trying to
create in the building what you know, like Seahawks culture,
what that means, you know, and we're building off of
what they've built, you know, through you know, Pete and
Coach Holmgan's years and all that.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
So I don't there wasn't necessarily bite.

Speaker 7 (22:19):
Now there's some things that like mechanisms that he did
that I wasn't used to, And for me, it's like, yeah,
of course I want to trust John Schneider, like you know,
he wants this is the way he does. Okay, it
sounds great, like we're gonna give this a shot.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
You know.

Speaker 7 (22:32):
So if I came in guns blazing and I'd just
be absolutely foolish. But when I when I think of
our relationship, I think there's so many times even now,
but especially in our first first year or two, like
where it was so foggy for me and it was
just not clear or we were going through something and
he could have easily just came in hot, you know,

(22:52):
with with the answer or you know, you know, put
his thumb on the scale. But he he created this
environment with me where he let me he just he
kind of figured it out to where I could I
could come to the conclusion through his like guidance and
his help if that makes sense. Yeah, and he's just
got so he says he kind of thinks like three
dimensionally like that, which is really cool, but but takes

(23:15):
the edge off, you know, in all of his interactions.
So it's a it's a special combination. And uh he's
a sharp cookie, man. I'll tell you what he's.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
He's he's really.

Speaker 10 (23:25):
Impressive, as are you, Mike McDonald with this uhh. When
people ask me about Brian Florey and and what to expect,
I say, I don't know. I haven't seen set up
a game and call a game right and and and
it neither have you?

Speaker 7 (23:38):
Right?

Speaker 10 (23:39):
But what I say is that my best thing that
I like about Brian Floyd is Mike McDonald hired him.
You're you're gonna be tough on offensive coordinators.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
You have been.

Speaker 10 (23:50):
What was it that you needed to see and hear
from Brian Floy when you talk to him that that
made you satisfy? This is he's he's a never time
play caller, but he's my guy.

Speaker 7 (24:02):
I don't know if I want to be known as
hard on our office, the coordinated its good working together,
you know, I just I really appreciated how he saw
the game and like what was important to him on
on how to build an offense offense. Well, you know,
it's easy to get in an interview and say, hey,

(24:22):
we're gonna run this game and we're gonna be this
and we're gonna have all the things, but to him,
it was it was about how we play the game.
And there was so much parallel to how we want
our football team to play, you know, and how we
built our offense last year and how that coincides how
we play special teams and defense. And I think him
having been on the other side of the ball and

(24:43):
on special teams, so his career is you know, gives
him this three sixty perspective of the game, which is
really cool. And he sees how it's all connected. You know,
you could tell he's incredibly sharp. He was a great communicator.
There's no bs, you know, there's no fluff, which is
which I always appreciate. And uh, and he can coach
the heck out of a football team, you know, and
so being able to have like he can see the

(25:07):
quarterback through the lens that the quarterback needs to be coached,
but he can also connect that to the timing of
routes and how we play combinations up front and how
we get in how we operate, and and he's opening
new ideas too.

Speaker 9 (25:20):
You know.

Speaker 7 (25:20):
It's not like just like, hey, this is this is
a non negotiables you know, from A to Z. It's
he's always he's trying to look to get better. And
it's not like I'm like critiquing. I'm like, we're working together,
you know, where I'm asking him question but what he's
thinking he's asking me.

Speaker 11 (25:33):
You know.

Speaker 7 (25:33):
It's just it's just kind of a like a tag team,
you know, which is a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
You mentioned the details with him the other day.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, like it's I thought that was an interesting comment.
You said that you're learning from him every day. Oh yeah,
and it's details and even little things like how you
carry the ball. I mean, we do a segment every
Monday called Hardcore Football and you will break down as
hardcore as it can from an x NFL quarterback for
us dummies out here. But he talked, We've talked about
it like, hey, he's carrying his ball, like little things

(26:00):
like that?

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Is that what it is?

Speaker 12 (26:01):
Like?

Speaker 3 (26:01):
The things that jumped out of you.

Speaker 7 (26:03):
Yeah, like you know in the spring now like now,
I was just doing an interview earlier. But like training,
if you if you look at training camp through like okay,
it's this long period of time. But if we could
so somehow we could stack all these meaningful reps like
that's when you create something cool. That's when you that's
when you're building your team. But if you're just doing
the motions, like you know, you're getting a brick here,

(26:25):
brick here, it's not like cohesive, you know. And so
like the way that the off season is now is
there's so many rules on what you can and can't do.
And so he was able to put it through the
lens of okay, even though we're doing like routes on
air in May, like this is how we're simulating what
happens in games, and this is how it applies. So
it's like little things like that that I've never seen

(26:47):
offensive football. Like coach like that, you know, to that
level of detail that far out with a big perspective
and getting the guys to buy in. And if you're
creating those habits that now shows up when we're in
pads and you know, I'll play with the coop today.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
I mean Coop's a master of this stuff.

Speaker 7 (27:02):
But like he catches the ball, dropstep, you know, makes
a guy like he's in the open field, slashes off
the guy.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
You know, it's probably a touchdown, you know, And.

Speaker 7 (27:10):
I think we've maximized, you know, that opportunity for that
type of stuff to happen because because of how we
coached that type of stuff throughout, you know, since we
got here in April.

Speaker 10 (27:19):
Mike McDonald with this huge kind of partially joked, I
assume the few days before the Super Bowl that Nick's
injury was keeping you up, waking you up.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
I wasn't joking.

Speaker 10 (27:31):
You weren't joking, Okay, he was, Okay, not partially joking.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
All serious.

Speaker 10 (27:35):
Okay, So what is it today that might wake you
up concerned about your football? Give us something first of
all that you say, you know what, I sleep really
well because of this what might yeah, go go ahead, please.

Speaker 7 (27:50):
I had a night while I said, it's his dream,
but it was really a nightmare that Eric Kennedy retired
last day.

Speaker 5 (27:54):
Okay, he was gonna hand out the equipment.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Well, you know, he's just like he's such like a
just a just like an act.

Speaker 7 (28:00):
He's like he's an absolute institution here and just like
a just a founding, massive member of our operation.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
And so I got it.

Speaker 7 (28:08):
I literally when I got in this morning after I worked,
I went in and I was like, you're not retiring?
Are you?

Speaker 3 (28:12):
Like you're still here? He's like, no, I'm here. I
was like, all right, thank god. Probably the answer.

Speaker 7 (28:19):
Honestly, but honestly, like like a foot off the gas,
not abiding by like an honest process, just going through
the motions, you know, getting getting just complacency, you know
that that type of stuff.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Is you seen any of that?

Speaker 7 (28:36):
No, But I still I still think about it, trying
I'm trying to say I'm not I'm trying to not
say the word worry, okay, trying to focus on I'm
getting coaches, I'm getting coached.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
I thought it was funny, like I'll just say this.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
I enjoyed the interaction between you and our good friend
Greg Bell the other day when he's pressing Uneven worried
you were not going to give us an answer. You
were not going to give us answer. I'm sure you
won't know.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
I appreciate Greg gas and he tried it was a
was a hell of an effort.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
Uh, But you brought up in that same conversation as
Zach Charbone for a second, and outside of the football player,
you talked about his spirit around the team, and here's
a guy coming off about acl we see him walking
around and and the running back position.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Probably you're not worried about it. You're not gonna use
that term, but I know you like to get him back.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
But what is it about his spirit? Maybe taking a
bigger picture, because I heard the word connected a lot
with his team and how connected and tight they were.
Guys from different backgrounds, different races, different rounds they were drafted,
all connected together, and it sounds like Sharbon is a.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
Guy that kind of helps with that a little bit definitely.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
You know he uh, he was putting he's been in
some tough spots since we got here, and it's like
the leadership behind behind the scenes, I think is the
first thing. Like in tough times, he goes to the
he goes to his teammates. You know, it's like, it's
not Zach, it's my guys, you know, And it's not
I don't know that because of like he tells me,

(29:58):
it's because you can see it, you know, And that's
that's how he operates, and so if I could see it,
the players definitely feel that every day when he's when
he was healthy, just like the daily work ethic of
all the things. It's just like clockwork, you know. And
then to hear how he's gone about his process to
come back from this injury. It's not an easy agent

(30:20):
and easy injury to come back from, you know. But
you hear about the reports and you hear and you
see the progress and where he is now. I mean,
you just you just want the best for the guy,
you know. You just like he just he deserves the
best because of because of.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
What he's done. I bring him up for this reason.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
It because every football team you kind of look from
the outside, like all of this look from the outside
and you see, like who are the leaders? The quarterback
is normally gonna be a leader for you. Ernest Jones
comes across as being Julian love guys like that. But
to have this team reach the levels it needs, you're
gonna have guys that maybe like a fan might be listening,
maybe we're thinking, why I didn't know Zach Charbonnay was
that guy? Like, yeah, the blue guys that connected guys.

(30:56):
How many of those guys like, is character a big
thing that you got look forward to in the draft
and everything else Andre agency, and like, what what does
that mean to what you're doing?

Speaker 7 (31:05):
Yeah, I mean we used to, like I used to
germinally want Seahawks, you know, then they come. You know,
you could have a Devi Witherspoon who's super outgoing and
competitive and you know he's got his style style away,
but he's he's just as much of a Seahawks as
Zach Sharbonnay, as Charles Cross a j B. You just
you go right down the line with his team, and

(31:25):
you know it's hard to find a guy that creates
any drag or you're not excited about seeing it, you know.
And so I'm sure the players feel the same way.
Which is just so much such a fun team to coach.

Speaker 10 (31:35):
As we let you go, give us just one story.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Fans love to hear stories.

Speaker 10 (31:39):
There must there must have been something that was cool
or interesting or note worthy about Super Bowl winning head
coach Mike McDonald. Maybe it's as Starbucks or something something
somebody looked at you different than they did before.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
What what what? What?

Speaker 7 (31:54):
In the experience I was invited to play in the
American century Championship in Tahoe, and so that was that
was a great that was a great honor, and it's
a great They do a phenomenal job and you're meeting
people that as you're like, I literally looked at like
one hundred people that time.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
My life is so dumb right now, and I get
to do this.

Speaker 7 (32:12):
So I get but so but the one thing that
everyone told is like, look, the first t you're gonna
be you know, your nerves are gonna be wrong, so
you know, get ready for that. So I'm okay, you know,
I'm thinking about it anyway. So I get to the
first tea, they you know, they instead of introducing me
is you know whatever, the accolades. I was the two
thousand and five physics student of the year since high
school and that's who they but uh, that's how they

(32:34):
introduced me.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
So I get. I get over the ball and I've
played I played a lot of golf this.

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Summer, and I just remember thinking like, I don't know
how I'm gonna make contact with you. Just don't top
it and don't And there's like a couple hundred people
there and I get to the back of my swing
and I just ad my body just like unravels, and
I topped the ball into the hazard no. Twenty yards
in front of all and it was just like, well
can I get any worse than this?

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Boys like it's a good time swing you play. It's
a holly too.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
And then I saw the swing and I'm like this,
are you single digit where I am?

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Yeah? Yeah, I'm back out. So topping the ball is
not in your repertoire ever, well apparently it.

Speaker 7 (33:11):
Is so, but that was that was a great experience.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
We had a lot of fun. But that'll bring it
back down.

Speaker 10 (33:17):
You have a new appreciation for kickers right right and
that game winning.

Speaker 7 (33:20):
Yeah, I mean and all honestly, like it is a
great test of like process and thinking about like what
you need to do, not worry about all whatever is doing.
So it'll be a story for a team meeting some point.
I got one more was wrap things up and you've
dressed it a couple of times. But it's wild to
see the hard knocks thing out here. And it's different too.
I'm a TV nerd, that's kind of where I started
the business, and so I like, I'm watching these guys
and trying to figure out what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
They blend in. Great job by the Seahawks, Brian O'Connell,
like they blend in. They're wearn't kind of the same
colors as your coaches and stuff, so you don't.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Only see them.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
But for you guys as a team, you said, embrace it.
I think everyone's embraced it here. What is it like
having those guys around?

Speaker 7 (33:55):
It's been seamless. Yeah, Like the first the first day,
you know, there's there's yeah, there's where they are. There's
the first day it's like, Okay, that's someone I'm not
used to someone being right there. Now there's somebody there.
I'm not used being miked up. Now I miked up.
But it's just kind of like anything, it's just adapt
and and just go about your business. I mean, there's
so many other things you need to be focused on,
you know, and I need to practice what I'm preaching too,

(34:19):
Like we had to just be us right, you know,
so if we're kind of out of pocket and we're
kind of out of whack, then then uh, it's really.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
No good for you.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Do you think fans will be surprised by what they say?
It's Tuesday, right, I think it's the first episode Tuesday,
the fourth. Do you think fans will be surprid? What
do you think is gonna come out? Like anything in
your back of mind is saying some people be surprised.

Speaker 7 (34:34):
Sometimes I'm like, how do people do people think that
we actually like can get a first down out here,
because it's like sometimes it's kind of mayhem, So, uh,
it'll be maybe I don't know, we'll see how.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
Crazy it seems in there.

Speaker 7 (34:46):
But yeah, sometimes you're like, yeah, we're kind of we're
kind of crazy, but I love it.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Well, listen, thank you you.

Speaker 5 (34:52):
Yeah, good appreciated coach down hammered down.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
All right.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
That was Mike McDonald from yesterday. Fun stuff with you
and Mike McDonald. I will break up. I want to
just one thing. I want to touch it on that
he said it right at the end, which is relevant
to where we just talked about with George wanting will
do that next.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Now back to Ian Forness at the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center and our special coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought
to you by the Boeing Classic Sports three kJ R
f M.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
All right, back in the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, Seeyawk
training camp. Fans are back here today. They weren't here yesterday,
but the fans are back today, so it's a much
more lively atmosphere. It's interesting yesterday that they I hadn't
really noticed this before with I think we didn't have
fans here on Monday last week or something, but they
there was a time really yesterday for the most part,

(35:46):
was quiet, Like the music wasn't blaring, you know, when
when Pete was here this I guess that would be
the one difference, Like Mike McDonald still has music going
on during practice and fans are here. When the fans
aren't here, uh, it's there's really no music. It's just
kind of subdued and guys are getting after business wise.
He said something there at the end that caught my
attention when he said it yesterday, I was like, yeah,
I noticed that because he gets they get a little uh,

(36:09):
they get a little red ass sometimes with uh with
you know, the offense isn't able to do much and
he'll have guys do it over and over again against this.
Well let me check notes here. Yeah, best defense in
the NFL last year.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
Regardless of what Madden says, What did Madden say about
the defense, tenth best defense in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yes, what yes, So does that mean we don't like
the js N grade then either? I can't tell because
Sam was the highest graded guy.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Right, yeah he was. But alsoous that's ridiculous, ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 5 (36:38):
Yeah, tenth best defense and they only have one player
in the top ten in their respective positions on the
defensive side of the ball, and it's Devin Witherspoon is
the sixth best corner.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
Well soon he'll be number one. Yeah, it word matters, Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Bank Yeah, but you know, Mike donald was talking about that,
George Laani was talking kind of said something similar like details,
we got to do everything against his defense every day
and he makes us do things over and over again
because we're not getting it right. And McNeill just kind
of mentioned that as well, I mean the defensive coach.
So that happens, right, I mean, it's I you get that.
It's he's a as a defensive coach. That's where the

(37:13):
emphasis is. But McDonald's involved at times with the offense
when you know, during the eleven on eleven's but the
little details of the Brian Flurry offense and then the
details that are involved with Mike McDonald, that's a challenge
for this offense every day.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
And you know in the old the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Previous Super Bowl champions, so the same thing like, you're
going against the best I don't care what mad sense,
you going against the best defense in the NFL. And
you're doing that. Iron does sharp and iron you're gonna
get better. You're seeing every look imaginable and all those things.
But yeah, this kind of thing was funny that that
kind of Hawani was saying the same thing that McDonald
said yesterday, and you and I about the details and
and how and yeah, McDonald like can we not get

(37:49):
a first down? We do hear him say that often,
And there was some like with no fans here yesterday
you could hear the coaches a little bit more. Who babe,
there is there is zero complacency out here, like zero.
It's and I've I've we've talked about this often. You know,
tomorrow's the what do they call it Back Together weekend

(38:10):
for the NFL network or ESPN.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
I guess it is. I don't even know what it's
on ESPN or the NFL.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Now, I think I still can't get the NFL Network
actually because they're still a battle of concast. Hopefully it's
still on the ESPN. I bring that up for this reason.
They they they're at all thirty two camps this weekend,
so we'll see what focus. Like last year, really the
last two or three years, the they've sent like reporters

(38:36):
out here you've never heard of, right, like huh, who's this?

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (38:40):
And like very little seahawk in the you know, in
the NFL network, ESPN back together, there's been very little.
Do they get more attention this year as the defending
Super Bowl champions or is it still gonna all be
about their first preseason game opponent? That would be the
Dallas Cowboys New York Giants with a new head coach.
I mean, we'll see you tomorrow, but I bring all
those things up. It's just a very unassuming, very unassuming

(39:02):
team in that regard, and I love it trickles down
from the coach. I mean, we tried to get it
out of him. Did you enjoy the Super Bowl? Like
you listen to him and it's like, yeah, I guess,
but I'm just worried about the next one, Like damn dude. Yeah,
Like like every player we've talked to is talked about, Man,
that moment of getting the ring or sitting back going wow,
I'm a Super Bowl champion. George Lane talking about this

(39:24):
first hour, Hey, how cool is this? You know, like
I'm playing in the Super Bowl, Like he admitted, it
wasn't a normal game. McDonald's just like, yeah, man, let's
go business as usual.

Speaker 5 (39:32):
Well, and like he even took it a step further
and was like does anyone do that? He was all like,
does anyone ever look back on their life and just say, hey,
that was cool? I just was like, yeah, a lot
of people do you.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
Do a lot of people do peer. Dave Pearson, their
VP of communications, was pointing to me. I don't know
what he was pointing to me for.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
I've accomplished a jack in my life. But whatever, all right,
we'll take a break, we'll come back. We got to
talk about the local baseball team. Well, they got to
do that. Even though we're Seahawk can U. They're getting
ready to get out in the field in the second.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
We'll do that. Next ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
No from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety
three point three KJRFM Sports Headlines.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
Headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed cors Light
Shoes Chill Ms losing the final game of their seven
game road trip to the Dodgers six to two last night,
two and five trip series with the Twins begins tonight
back at home.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
More on that in a moment.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
NFL has our CBS Sports as placed NFL analyst twenty
Romo on Lee following out of the rest last week
on suspicion of driving under the influence. You could suspicious
all you want. He was doing it like HA had
the open container to prove it. Maybe Storm. They take
on the Atlanta Dream tonight four point thirty. There are
six and twenty four on the season. They'll be six

(40:48):
and twenty five after today. But at least when they're
on the road they can't offend anybody. At least they'll
wann her camp. She's gone for a while. A let's
get to our number two.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Here we go live from the Bridge you Mason Athletics Center.
This is kjr's special coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought

(41:18):
Champion twelve Man Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
All right, we are back at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center,
the home of the Seattle Seahawks, defending Super Bowl champion
Seattle Seahawks. I'm sitting here at the let's see, I
guess we'll be the northeast corner of the practice fields,
right next to the burm players starting to make their
way out out of the field right now, back in
paths today. The practice will get started here in about
ten or fifteen minutes time, and and away we go.

(41:47):
You hear from Mike McDonald earlier. If you've missed that
a couple times, we've had him. Now, we had him
on live yesterday. We played it a minute ago. Make
sure you go to the podcast page check it out,
take a listen. He was really fun to talk to
with Hugh Millan and myself the head coach, the head
coach defense Super Bowl champion head coach as well, who
is still trying to find a way to enjoy being
a Super Bowl champion as he moves on to this

(42:07):
particular season coming up, the baseball team is starting a
homestand tonight seven game road trip capped off by losing
two of three to Mike Benton's Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
Anders.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
We blame Betton for that. We really we blame Betton
for that. All the captain's faults. I'm gonna I'm gonna
throw something at you and you tell me if if
maybe I've gone too far the other way. Some would
say in the past, I've been a little negative with
the baseball team. Some would say a little pessimistic, a

(42:43):
little hyper critical of the baseball team.

Speaker 5 (42:45):
I mean, you employ the Molly Whoppers, but yes.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
Well.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
Let me think defense to having the No No but
I gladly accept and love having them on every week.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
Those those guys are something. Okay, So.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
The two and five road trip, I would make the argument,
it's probably only if you're looking at seven games starting
last week. I'm gonna say that the two and five
is probably, honestly make an argument it's really only one
less than you thought it could be.

Speaker 5 (43:31):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
I thought going in three and four was likely. I
thought it was probable, and I thought it was almost acceptable.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
And here's why you're gonna lose a series of the Dodgers.
You just are.

Speaker 9 (43:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
Right, So that's not a surprise you didn't get swept.
That's a big bonus, Like, if you're being honest, that's
a bonus. The other half of it, Anders is I
think they're only one game behind where they probably thought
they would be. I think a split in Texas would
have been fine. Yeah, And I think there was almost
something you're thinking about now. They obviously lose three to four,

(44:08):
that's only one game difference. They're two and a half
out of the division lead. They are they have slipped
in the wildcard spot. They're three games out of a
wildcard spot.

Speaker 5 (44:15):
It's division of us at this point for me.

Speaker 2 (44:17):
Yeah, Houston, I'm not really you know what, I'm not
really ready to say that yet. I think, I mean,
three games isn't a ton.

Speaker 5 (44:23):
Now, But how many teams are between you and that, well,
I mean.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
That's the thing.

Speaker 2 (44:27):
I think there was two, and I think one of
them's names Houston. Right, I'm a double check. I got
it right here in front of me. It would be
edited well, Minnesota, Houston, Baltimore, all head of you yea
before they it's the last spot.

Speaker 5 (44:41):
But you're so then you have four So Cleveland, Minnesota, Houston, Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
Correct, yeah, so it's four, but they're all within three games,
yes of each other. Yes, like everyone the Seattle's three
games out, Baltimore's two and a half. They may be
sellers at the deadline. Houston's only one game. Why are
they still here? Why are they still here? They're like
the house guests that would never leave, Like, why are
you still here?

Speaker 5 (45:06):
Yeah, it's true.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
Minnesota is the interesting one. They just picked up a
reliever yesterday added to their lineup. Bucks is not going
to play in this series. So I mean, you know
what you've got, folks. You got a pretty good, little
important series this weekend with Minnesota of all things. And
the oh, by the way, Detroit, which is only a
game and a half behind you, is here next week.

Speaker 3 (45:25):
Now, by the time Detroit gets here.

Speaker 5 (45:27):
They'll have traded Schooble.

Speaker 3 (45:28):
They may have traded schoobl See, that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (45:30):
All the teams around the Mariners record are selling. Why
aren't the Mariners doing that?

Speaker 2 (45:35):
So let me go back to what I said last
week wasn't as bad and diary as you thought. It
was your one game back of where you probably should
have been, could have been hoped to be. I mean,
obviously you would like to win a series, but that's
where you are right now. Okay, So now you get home.
I mean, listen, their home road splits are just crazy,

(45:55):
like what Seattle has done this Yeah, like in in
terms of what they're doing home versus what they're doing away.
I mean, they're twenty three and thirty four away from home.

Speaker 3 (46:04):
That's just and why is that? Well, Roade Brian Wu,
that's one of the reasons.

Speaker 5 (46:10):
And they're thirty and twenty three at home.

Speaker 2 (46:12):
When they're thirty and twenty three at home. The Brian
Wu thing yesterday, I wanted to believe in it. We
talked about it with Eno. I told you know, I
go no, man. I think I bet he bounces back.
We said that on the air. I think you and
I both agreed about that last night. He's gonna hate
it's a road game.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
They know more than we do. He's gonna be fine.
Bryce Miller, I don't. The weird thing is, is Bryce
Miller need one more day?

Speaker 3 (46:33):
Really? Is that going to make a difference for the
guy with the sore arm.

Speaker 5 (46:36):
Well, now you only guarantee one start at home for
Brian Woo in a nine game homestand because you moved
him up with.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
All Anders, I didn't realize that.

Speaker 2 (46:47):
Yes, wow, yes, where at home the guy is nearly unbeatable. Yes,
so you waste him in a road.

Speaker 5 (46:56):
Game because he needs the best one more day for
Bryce Miller. And here's what I'll push back on your
notion that it wasn't as bad. Push back fire because
it's not. First of all, yes, maybe if you're looking
at specifically that road trip, then yeah, okay, maybe it's
one game worse than you thought of, right, which is
not the end of the world. But it's been an
entire season of that.

Speaker 11 (47:16):
Ian.

Speaker 5 (47:17):
It's not like you had three or four good home
stands and road trips in a row and then you
had one like a bad one. But you can you
can deal with that. We're past the point of doing that.
And the other thing is, it's not the games themselves,
it's how it's happening, right, And I'd even argue without

(47:37):
Dom can zone you go Owen seven. He saves your
butt in Texas with the three run homer to come back.

Speaker 2 (47:43):
There's no listen all this interjectory. There's no argument needed there. Yes,
you're right, you are the dom canzone factor.

Speaker 5 (47:50):
Yes right, because yeah, you're you're two dom Can zone
heroically saving games away from going Owen seven on this road.

Speaker 2 (48:02):
You were asking though, about everyone selling around you are Yeah,
they're not going to I know they're you know what,
and probably because of what you just said. It also
helps the process. Everyone else is selling around you. Why
would you sell like you're You're gonna be in a
better situation come Monday at three pm, even if you
know what, more than likely, even if you don't make
a move, you're probably gonna be in a better situation

(48:24):
on Monday.

Speaker 3 (48:24):
Yeah, but three pm.

Speaker 5 (48:25):
I just don't think this team's good. I realize everyone
wants to think they are. But at some point, this
point in the season, we're fifty three and fifty seven. Math,
what is that one hundred and ten games in the season.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
This is who they are.

Speaker 5 (48:40):
This is that we're not waiting for them to explode,
waiting for them to go on a run anymore. This
is who they are at.

Speaker 3 (48:46):
The two games left right, fifty two games left too
in the season.

Speaker 5 (48:49):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (48:51):
Keep holding out hope. And maybe this is just false hope.
Maybe it's false hope, but I keep holding out hope.
It's like, man, these guys get to the they get
the playoffs, they're gonna be fine. Because my thought would be,
if they get to the playoffs, at some point they
picked up a little bit of a heater along the way,
like they found themselves along the way. You know what
I'm saying, Like, all of a sudden, Cal doesn't look
like the most lost soul in the history of baseball
at the plate.

Speaker 5 (49:11):
Yeah, what tells you that's gonna happen?

Speaker 9 (49:14):
Though?

Speaker 3 (49:15):
Nothing?

Speaker 2 (49:16):
Absolutely nothing? A hope and a prayer, Yes, what tells
me that? A hope and a prayer?

Speaker 5 (49:23):
I mean, they just look dead out there, They look lifeless.

Speaker 3 (49:28):
They keep looking for it, like is there a catalyst?

Speaker 2 (49:32):
Right, I'll give you an example when they kind of
erupted the other night in LA and you saw life
on the bench and a life in the dugout and
life when guys are crossing at home point. You saw
the life come to you saw it, right, and then
it just disappeared the next two nights.

Speaker 3 (49:49):
So what gives you hope?

Speaker 2 (49:50):
What makes you think that that could happen all the above,
like maybe they can get go. I mean, is cal
really going to be this bad all year again?

Speaker 5 (49:59):
What's gonna take tell you that he's not at this point?

Speaker 3 (50:01):
Like like I'm dead seriously, is he gonna be bad
this all year?

Speaker 9 (50:04):
Like?

Speaker 4 (50:05):
God?

Speaker 9 (50:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (50:06):
If if he remains Here's the thing, I don't even
know what the math is anders. Yeah, is it even
possible for him to finish the year hitting above two hundred?

Speaker 8 (50:17):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (50:17):
It would be pretty hard to do that, Like he'd
have to go on in a massive heater, right, Yeah, man,
I don't know. Just everything about this year has just
been odd to me. It's just been odd, and I
keep I keep having this hope in the back of
my mind.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
That's why I'm trying to spin it positive. What happened
last week? Sure, again, if.

Speaker 2 (50:38):
You didn't lose the you know, it would have been
nice to win a series against the fighting Bentons, you know,
the fighting chevaz Ravine, but that didn't happen.

Speaker 5 (50:45):
Let me ask you a question, Ian, Yeah, would you
feel better if this team's stars were playing well but
you had glaring holes on your team? Or would you
feel better that the kind of the fringes of the
roster are actually doing their job the dom can zones
of the world, but the stars aren't doing their job.
What would you feel better about?

Speaker 2 (51:03):
Listen, I think you can make an argument both ways.
And here's why. I think your first scenario. Stars are great,
have holes to fill, go out and fill those holes.

Speaker 5 (51:13):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (51:13):
Okay, So like you can make the quick fix, which
is what what you're talking about. Was last year's team.
Exactly what you're talking about is this year's team as well.
I see what you're doing, well done. Yes, this year's
team stars aren't playing well. So what if the Stars
start to pick it up?

Speaker 3 (51:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (51:30):
I mean now, I just got to Now I want
to punch myself in the face because that's something that
Jerry to Potao would say.

Speaker 4 (51:35):
Ye's exactly, God.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
What has happened to me?

Speaker 5 (51:38):
All of our improvements will become internal.

Speaker 3 (51:42):
Well does that include Michael Royal?

Speaker 5 (51:44):
I guess yes. Maybe we'll see him soon, maybe we'll
see him tonight.

Speaker 2 (51:51):
We make an argument that Wilson's been better than some
of their regular guys lately, so I don't know, dropping
him down. And then obviously, I mean I'm not holding
my rethline it I'm Brendan Donovan do it, Mike. I've
got a lot more faith that cal Rawley's gonna get
on a heater at some point than I do that
Brendan Donovan is gonna do anything or stay healthy the
rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (52:08):
If he comes back.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
Yeah, Like, I got a lot more confidence in that,
all right.

Speaker 2 (52:11):
Danny O'Neal doesn't like the mediocrity either of the Mariners.

Speaker 3 (52:14):
Shockingly, uh, he'll join us coming up next.

Speaker 1 (52:21):

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Danny O'Neil, Danga Postuko joins us from New York City. Danny,
I'm gonna I'm gonna make you you feel like a
little nostalgic, feel like you're you know, back at home here.
Hang on a second, I'm gonna frank this up.

Speaker 3 (52:59):
Can you hear that? Listen?

Speaker 11 (53:01):
I can't?

Speaker 3 (53:02):
Yes, yeah, there it is.

Speaker 2 (53:05):
The sounds of training camp, my friends. So sounds of
training camp on the shores of Lake Washington.

Speaker 11 (53:11):
There was a time when there was no music being
played during practice.

Speaker 6 (53:15):
There was a time.

Speaker 11 (53:17):
There was a time when when the younger of Jim
Mora was was running them through to two hours and
fifteen minute practices every day during training camp.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Now it is fully padded, I should point out, fully
padded those those practices with with Jim Mora junior, Yes, yes,
or Jim Moore of the second whatever the hell he's called.
But uh, yeah, well, first of all, the no music. Uh,
let's talk about that for a second. That would have
been my good friend and yours, Michael Holmgren. Uh that
was I remember the first year we're out here, Hongry

(53:48):
comes rolling in and Pete's playing music. I thought Mike
was going to have an aneurysm. Man, He's just like
losing his mine, like what are we? What is going on?

Speaker 3 (54:02):
And we know it worked. It worked for Pete.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
I'll tell you this though, Danny yesterday, and I don't
know if I noticed this last year, I maybe I
did it.

Speaker 3 (54:10):
I just wasn't paying attention.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
So yesterday first fully padded practice and there and the
fans weren't here. It was one of the days they
don't have fans out here. No music yesterday, no music
when the fans weren't here. And for Mike McDonald, it
was business. It was football pads popping, guys getting in skirmishes,
coaches using words that you can't usually. You know, I'm

(54:32):
assuming it'll be fine on hard knocks, but yeah, it
was a little different atmosphere yesterday with first day in
pads and no and no music playing and a way
they went, no fans. But today the fans are back.
They're back in the pads. And I did laugh when
you said more because let's see, this would have been practice.
Let's see Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. So this is practice
number six.

Speaker 3 (54:53):
I get for them.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Jim Moore, Jim Mora that first year when he was
the head coach, they were in pad's day one, which
is not allowed anymore by the CBA, by that agreement.
But you remember the first day they were in paths
with Jim Moore out here.

Speaker 11 (55:05):
God yeah, it was. It was an intense training camp
they had. And I've always used that in when people
talk about, oh, you just really need a hard ass,
you really need someone comes in and sort of coaches
by fear, and look, there are some guys that have
been able to do that and win. I do think
it's I do think it's harder to do that now.

(55:27):
But the other thing is that, man, if things go
sideways and you're kind of that hard ass, like, you
can lose a team late in the season. And there
was a lot going on that year, but man, that
December under Mora really speaks to sort of the downside
of when you've got a guy that's really a combative
and pushing a team that things things can bottom out

(55:48):
in terrible ways.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
And he said that year right like almost from the start.
I remember guys walking off the field that first practice.
Some of the veterans that we knew are like, yeah,
we're done, Like this is this is this is the
dumbest thing ever. I think Craig Terrell picked up his
guitar that day and left like I'm done. He said

(56:12):
something he fucked up. He said something like that, this guy,
this guy just.

Speaker 3 (56:15):
Ended my career. I can't do this.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
This is note like like even even the most diehard
maniac you know, youth football coach, they're not in Pad's
day one, Like it just doesn't happen. So, yeah, it's
a little bit different atmosphere out here right now. I
did notice she wrote about a guy that Greg Bell
is gonna have on the show on his show on Monday,
Jaln Milroe. Danny O'Neills is fought now that he's no

(56:40):
longer in the media. He is falling into the trap
that all fans do and then they chirp the media people.
And this is something when Danny would have been on
the radio or writing a newspaper and fall him as
a beat would have driven him nuts. Everyone loves the
backup quarterback. Everyone loves a third string quarterback, Danny. And
look at you, look at look at the evolution of
one Dan O'Neill.

Speaker 11 (57:01):
Yeah, it is. It is one percent. Because the backup
quer back is very similar to communism that it works
really well in theory, but like the real world, practical
applications of this tend to be much much more difficult.
And look, I'll say right now, I don't I don't

(57:21):
see a path toward Jalen Milroe playing this year like that,
unless unless you have an injury in front of him.
And I'm not trying to knock Sam Darnolds or anything,
but what I am most curious about this month is
watching Milrope play. And I guess it would be can
he be the backup? Can he be the backup quarterback?

(57:43):
And long term I do I do wonder if this
guy could be a candidate to play down the road,
like if if he's someone who will have a shot
to be a quarterback. And he wasn't a project. I mean,
he's a third round pick, but he also was not
on that He's develop loves to play right away. It's
it's just a genuine curiosity. I'm excited to kind of

(58:04):
see what he has to do and what opportunities he has.
So yeah, I have become Beginnea fan, except in this
one regard. I don't have the belief that, oh, maybe
he'll play this year. I just think that's that's completely
off the table unless we have injuries. But I am
really curious to watch him this month.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
Yeah, if he's taking meaningful snaps at quarterback, like meaningful
quarterback snaps, then something has gone horribly wrong, like like
it's it's and that's nothing against him, it's just the
reality is you've got a guy in Sam Donold who's
no doubt you're won and and had a hell of
a season last year, like a hell of a season

(58:45):
last season. And I know, you know, Mike Santo does
a quarterback tiers that comes out on Tuesday in The Athletic,
which I love that column because it's done with actual
GMS personnel guys and all that. Mike just kicks ass
on that thing. I know that Sam Donald's going up
in that for sure, so we'll see where he ends.
And listen, Drew Locke is a I'm gonna guess there's
probably around twenty to twenty five teams that would say

(59:08):
I would take Drew lock as my backup quarterback right now,
Like he's he's kind of your your perfect backup, massively
popular in the locker room, on the field, in the huddle,
more than competent. He the guy that like there's no doubt,
like if if SA you know Arnold goes down, Locks
the guy and has won one games and has played
well in those the system and all those things. Milroe

(59:31):
is the three. We were talking about this the other day.
He's in year two of a four year rookie contract.
There is no rush.

Speaker 3 (59:39):
It's like that. It's really a perfect scenario, isn't it. Andy.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
It's not often that you have this where you can say, hey,
we're gonna keep this. This guy's on the fifty three man.
Let's see how he progresses, see what he does this season.
He had his best practice ever as a Seahawks on Tuesday,
by the way, that was like a consensus, a consensus pick.
So I want to see what he does in the
preseason because he looked better throwing the ball in the
preseason all that. Some hate the preseason. I get it,
but let's the preseason is there for a reason, and

(01:00:04):
it's guy's like Jayl Milroll that is there for.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:00:08):
I think that. And the question with Sam Darnold, because
Donald did have a really good year last year, and
he's had a really good year in the past two
years his team. He's been a starter that start at
all seventeen games and two straight years and his team
has gone fourteen and three. With the Vikings, he did
not play well in the playoffs and had had a
bad regular season finale, and last year played great in

(01:00:31):
the playoffs. In the NFC Championship game against against the Ramps,
he was awesome. That's as well as he played. He
didn't have a great super Bowl, but they didn't need
him to have a great super Bowl. No. I do
find myself wondering, Okay, what is the feeling for him?
And I think that this is the level where he's
going to be. He's someone with a little bit of
volatility where he will have games where he commits turnovers.

(01:00:54):
I also think he makes up for it with big plays.
Long term, I wonder if this it, he'll be someone
who's liking Alex Smith, in which he's a really good,
solid starting quarterback that you feel really good about, but
you don't necessarily stop looking for. Maybe there's a younger
developmental player and the presence of him gives you an

(01:01:16):
ability to kind of wait and see with the guy.
You don't have to draft a quarterback that you you
know who he needs to work out for your team succeed.
You can every couple of years draft the guy and
see what he developed into. And that would be the
slot that Mill wrote me.

Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Daniel Neil joining US dani A Posterrey buch By Northwest
Handling Systems, you can only have one. I'll throw this
at you because these names came up the today when
we're watching mill role play and it was what it
was the good day it was earlier, is like Saturday
or Monday. You can only have one of the greats
of all time, Mike Teel or David Green.

Speaker 13 (01:01:55):
I'm taking Keel every time.

Speaker 11 (01:01:59):
I'm taking Peel every time. And that's simply because David Green.
David Green, if you were going to ask me one
player to epitomize Tim Ruskill's run as GM and this
is probably like a little bit mean, because he did
have some good picks. He picked Lofu to Chupu, he

(01:02:20):
drafted Leroy Hill. He really put together that defense. The
two thousand and five team, they wouldn't have They would
not have gotten to the Super Bowl without Tim Ruskin.
But but David Green, I have never I have never

(01:02:41):
seen a quarterback that was because he was a third
round pick two and I believe when he was drafted
he was the all time winning at college quarterback. And
some of that related to schedule and how much he
played coming out of Georgia but I have never and
the coaching that did not think all that much of

(01:03:03):
him either, And then Russell blamed the Green's lack of
development on the coaching staff that they weren't invested. And
then when he got let go, I think he got
picked up by the Patriots left, but David Green. David
Green was awful and an exhibit that I often refer
to of like, look, you draft a quarterback in the
third round. You see some promise, but there's no guarantee
that guy ever does or should get on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
I think it's I think it was a wise move
because Ruskell. I agree with Russell. It had to be
been the staff's fault that that guy didn't develop, because
it's not. I mean that staff had no track record
of developing quarterbacks Matt Brett Brunell, I mean none whatsoever.

Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
So yeah, he's probably right, Yes, he's probably right.

Speaker 11 (01:03:49):
This was This was not Do you remember Charlie Frye,
Oh god, he was a quarterback from Creveland, Yeah, ye started.
Charlie fry started, and I think this was two thousand
and eight. Charlie Fryce started a game in two thousand
and eight. He was the Week one starter for Cleveland
and then they cut him the next week. Yes, he
was also he was also a third round pick the

(01:04:10):
Seahawks traded for him, And it wasn't It wasn't Mike,
but it was one of his assistants who later that
season just said to me, he goes confidentially, he goes.
Whoever drafted this guy in the third round, they should
take him out to midfield every day and kick him
in the nine. Wasn't even mad as the player? Whoever

(01:04:32):
evaluated this guy? And so poor Charlie Fryce still catching,
still catching strays.

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Fifteen years later, Mike Teal was the guy that everyone
was fired up for the one year here, Like every
fan wanted Mike because he had like one good preseason
game and it's like he's got he should be ahead of.
Might have been Matt then, I think it was. Wasn't
it was it Matt the quarterback here?

Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (01:04:53):
Yeah, there, I believe Seneca Wallace as well.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
Yeah, checking notes here, Matt hasselback probe. No, I think
Mike Heal can sit on the I think that'd be
a good idea. But all right, Danielle, you'll join us
Northwaw Sandling Systems Our Baseball team just had a two
to five road trip, Danny, and they come home now
they take on the Minnesota Twins and we have trade
deadline coming up on Monday. Andrews, you were asking me

(01:05:16):
earlier about why I could feel still confident or okay
with where the baseball team is. Well, I read the
dang Apostrophe and in there there was like a graphic
and it showed me that the baseball team is relatively
the same this year as they've been in the last
like ten years. Okay, so I feel better, Danny.

Speaker 11 (01:05:35):
Ah, do you know that was so that was so
crazy to look up what their record was after one
hundred and nine games, and it really is they have
been at the exact same level. They're a little off
at this year they were fifty three and fifty six,
now fifty three and fifty seven. But watching how consistent
this team has been, they always get here. Usually they

(01:05:58):
are fourteen, but this year, yeah, there are four games
off pace, but everybody in the division stinks. And you
realize that this is the level of consistency with this
team is remarkable, is that they don't seem to be
getting better. There's a team that plays to get the
game to the fourth quarter that says, well, anything can

(01:06:19):
happen then, which is it's not the worst kind of
team to root for, but it's also very frustrating. And
I find myself similar to you, like this team makes
me want to kick things. Watching them can be a
singularly dispiriting experience because of they are just out of
game sometimes, like last night watching the game, there is

(01:06:39):
no point in which I felt like, oh, this is
going to go well, and yet you sit there and
look at it and I'm like, I still think they're
going to make the playoffs because that division isn't very good.
But god, it's frustrating.

Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
The deadline coming up. We were discussing it earlier. We're
going to keep discussing it. What should not will they do?
Nobody knows what they're going to do. What should their
approach be come Monday over the next week.

Speaker 11 (01:07:09):
Well, their approach should be to go out and make
a big acquisition, because the two times that we've seen
them do that in this recent period of time where
they've been put great. So I would say since that lock,
since the shortened season, since COVID when they came back

(01:07:29):
next year, the full season. Each of those years they've
been in this good not great year. The years that
they've gone out made a big addition Luis Castillo, and
then last year with Suarez and Naylor that has kind
of put them over the top. So that would be
my answer is go out and be aggressive. And I
really I'm not going to sit here and whine and
cry if you give up prospects to be able to

(01:07:52):
do that, or you trade a starting pitcher. I do
want them to do something. The reason that that's so
hard is that this team has given you no reason
to think the state that they that you should invest
in them. There's there's nothing that they've done. You talked
about years where I really feel like, Okay, they've played
in a way where they've earned the right to have
some faith put in them. This team hasn't earned it

(01:08:14):
at all. Yet I go back to this, this opportunity
they have given the division and given the number of
guys that have underperformed that I think you've still got
a third of the season and you can pull it out.
But God, it's tough, and it requires a lot of
faith in a team that has not given you reason
to have anything.

Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
Andrews, I'll bring in here with Danny for saying so,
and right now, the Rays and the Yankees, those are
the two teams you can get a sharpie out and
pen like they're in. Yeah, okay, they're They're in. Raising
Raisin and the Yankees. One's gonna be the division winner,
one's gonna be wild Card one. Boston's getting closer to that.
They're not quite there yet. Chicago only has a two

(01:08:53):
game lead over Cleveland, and then whatever happens in the
Al West, and and damn it, Danny, for some reason,
clearly the Houston Astros, they're like a mole in your
back cockroache keeps. They just keep digging holes in your backyard.
They keep popping up there they are again, right, So
I bring that up for this reason. There's probably two possibilities,

(01:09:15):
maybe three, but two for the playoffs for Seattle, more
than likely either wild Card three or the division winner.
But if people are around you are selling, shouldn't the
philosophy be, well, good, you guys sell, We're going to
go for it.

Speaker 13 (01:09:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (01:09:29):
I think so. I absolutely think that if you've got
the people around you that are unwilling either selling or
unwilling to commit to buying, that should help you in
the buyer's market. Yes, I believe. I think when you've
gone and made the playoffs two times in the past
twenty four seasons, and you have a year where the
playoffs are very much within rey, I think you have

(01:09:51):
an obligation to be aggressive in those situations, if only
for we know that how that this is not guarantee
You're not always going to be in this quarters.

Speaker 5 (01:10:03):
Andrews, you agree, Yeah, I mean I don't disagree, because,
like you said, just logistically, you're looking at the standings
and you're looking at you know where they are. It's
two and a half out. That's absolutely within reason. But
I just I watched this team on a daily basis,
and I don't think they're a playoff team. This is
different this year than it has been in the last
few years combined. Even in twenty three and twenty four,

(01:10:24):
where yes, they still struggled and missed the playoffs barely,
there were aspects of their team where I felt like, man,
if they were just one or two pieces away, and
if they were maybe a little more aggressive in the
deadline of the offseason, they would have gone over the hump.
I don't feel like that's the case with this team.
They're underperforming so heavily that I just in general, my

(01:10:44):
thought is that this isn't a playoff team, but maybe
that changes.

Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
I don't know, it's just they're a strange team, guys,
and you know they don't I've never seen it, Danny,
in this town, Like there's always been a little bit
of a little bit of venom directed towards the baseball
team because lack of success in they're forty nine.

Speaker 5 (01:11:01):
No, really, this year just a little okay.

Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
There's more this year.

Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
It's weird, like Danny, it's a weird dynamic here this year,
Like people are just genuinely pissed off of this team
and they're right there, which I just maybe we expect
them to kind of run away with the division. Maybe
it's the fact that Anders brought this up earlier. Your
best players aren't your best players. Your best players are
don Canzone guys like that. Like it's just a weird line.

Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
Yeah, yeah, it is.

Speaker 11 (01:11:27):
Do you think it's Do you think it's similar to
what it was like with the Seahawks, like two thousand
and four and really into about halfway through the two
thousand and five season, and they were on such a
run where they had gotten to the point where they
were they were back like two thousand to two thousand
and three. Two thousand and three, that make the playoffs,

(01:11:48):
they lose to the Packers in that game two thousand
and four, they start off great, they blow that game
against the Rams, yeah, and end up barely making the playoffs,
losing the home playoff game, and everybody's like, all right,
we've seen you at this level for too long and
we're done with it.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
It was it was like, we should move on from Homegrend,
we should move on from home Gren, right, that was
what it was.

Speaker 11 (01:12:07):
We're people, yeah, that two thousand and five season, and
I think it was accurate of like, we'll see what
happens this year, but if they don't take a step
forward this year, you might see a change at head coach.
And then, of course you saw that team was great,
and the reason it was great was because of the
offense that Holmgren had put together over the previous four
or five seasons. But it's hard when a team stalled

(01:12:30):
and they kind of get high centered on this cusp
of they're not bad, but they're not getting better. They're
good but not great, and kind of stuck there. It
is a very frustrating spot for a team to do.

Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
We okay, I'm gonna we'll revisit with go in here.
I gotta revisit that next week. I love that term
you just use. They stalled like they've just kind of
peeked installed it where they are right now. We'll touch
it on that. By next week we'll have a trade deadline.
Tell people to the dang apostrophe, sir.

might look a little better if you maybe turned it
inside out.

Speaker 6 (01:16:15):
Does somebody want to let me know what's going on?

Speaker 9 (01:16:17):
Is this?

Speaker 6 (01:16:18):
This is that an old show JT would have no idea,
But this is your life right here?

Speaker 5 (01:16:22):
Is this what we're playing there?

Speaker 13 (01:16:25):
This is the biggest cracking This is the biggest cracking
fan in the great state of Maine right now calling in,
Oh my god, on this momentous occasion. But let me
let me just.

Speaker 6 (01:16:36):
Yeah, yeah, First off, let me let me paint the picture.
Is that somebody, one of Johnny's butlers in the mansion
in Maine brought him, brought him the phone.

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Uh, he's got an old phone.

Speaker 6 (01:16:49):
With the with the cord that you know, reaches out
about fifty yards. So he's sitting out on the lake
right now, is seater up. He's got the banana hammock
on and he's talking to back and set down.

Speaker 13 (01:16:59):
And the mortgages do at midnight. So last year, I
am doing great and I just I just want to say,
I just want to say, seriously, one of the great
things about our profession is that we get to speak
with and to the fans right and on behalf of

(01:17:24):
all of them. I just want to say to Eddie,
thank you for the last four years. Thank you for
your wit, your one and only personality, your knowledge, your insight,
and it is great game and your delivery of it
all because it has enhanced the experience of Krack and Hockey.

(01:17:46):
It's grown the brand. We've gone through growing pains, we
all know this, but you have added so much to it.
We support your decision. Obviously, we're going to miss you
a ton, still going to be around, which I'll deal
with on another front, I'm sure, but I just I
also want to say personally, I love you, and I

(01:18:08):
just want to say one of the greatest blessings of
my career and my life is to know you and
work with you. Sure, work with you great. I think
we do great together. But you're You're a dear friend
and you care about people and that's why you are
who you are. So I just want to say that
because we kid each other a lot, and you know,

(01:18:31):
some people think we hate each other, which might be
the case, but I just wanted to say those things,
and I'm glad that I got a chance to make
this collect call. I really appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
We actually accepted the collect call too, And those.

Speaker 11 (01:18:49):
Were the days we're in a choice.

Speaker 6 (01:18:51):
Now you don't yeah, hey, yeah, I know that. I
know that's the roll of quarters in your pocket, but
you better put.

Speaker 5 (01:18:57):
One in the phone right now.

Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
Need another.

Speaker 6 (01:19:03):
Fifteen years ago exactly here, let me give you some advice.
When you're around Johnny, don't ask him for ten bucks
just to look at you like, I don't have any cash.
And I tried to tell him, you know what, at
some point here, we're all going to need cash somebody
because at some point, at some point, our credit cards
and everything's just going to go down for a few days.

(01:19:25):
And that's just going to happen. That's just the world
we live in. So you better have some cash. A
few years a few years ago.

Speaker 13 (01:19:30):
When money in our health officials, When our health officials
a few years ago said hey, we we shouldn't have
any currency, I thought it.

Speaker 11 (01:19:37):
Was the greatest thing in the world I ever heard.

Speaker 3 (01:19:39):
I said, you're right, oh my.

Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
But hey, let me let me respond.

Speaker 6 (01:19:43):
First off, Johnny, I love you.

Speaker 5 (01:19:45):
You know that.

Speaker 6 (01:19:47):
You know you were one of the one of the
main reasons why I Uh, I came came to Seattle
be able to sit next to the best in the business,
and nobody there alw great broadcasters and I work with
a lot of them, but there's nobody better. And I
just want to say thank you for everything. And I

(01:20:12):
know who There are people out there that think that
there is some tension, and sometimes there are, especially when
I'm sitting next to you, and it are when you're driving.
I mean, there is tension. But I really appreciate everything,
and you are a close friend and it's been it's

(01:20:32):
been a blast, uh to have sat next to you
for four years, and it's been uh, it's been an honor.
So thank you for everything, and I look forward to
seeing you down the road. I'm sure we'll get a
handful of games for TNT and hopefully we can get
a game out West or maybe the Cracker and are
on the road and maybe we can do one of

(01:20:53):
those games and we can get the band back together
and you know, tell a few stories.

Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
So thanks for you.

Speaker 6 (01:21:00):
Know, thanks to jumping off the cruiser and the yacht
and taking five minutes out of your schedule and it's
been a lot of fun. So thank you very much.
For everything.

Speaker 9 (01:21:11):
You're the best, buddy, You're the best.

Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
I'll I'll just speak.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
I'll wrap it up on behalf of the fans of
which I'm one, as well as one of the guys
that has the blessed opportunity to work with you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Nothing was better about the job.

Speaker 2 (01:21:26):
Than when it was an Edzo game and we put
on a headset at the Climate Pledge Arena, or we
would be at the studios of the KRACK and Hockey
Network and it would be the two of you guys
doing the game with JT and and just a shout
out to JT. I had probably three or four games
I worked with JT solo last year, and I had
great respect for him before those, and my respect actually grew,

(01:21:48):
which I didn't think was possible, because he does a
hell of a job and works and he's.

Speaker 3 (01:21:51):
Learned from the best.

Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
But when you guys are doing something, it was always entertaining,
it was always informative. The best stuff was oftentime and
the rehearsals, which which we heard a little clip from
there a moment ago talking about exactly which was what
we heard just a moment ago. But I agree with you, Edzo,

(01:22:12):
there's nobody better in the business than Johnny, and getting
to hear him every day is fantastic, and and getting
to work with you, ed Zoe was a pleasure. But
the winners here were the fans in Seattle. They were
the winners from from day one with Johnny and for
the last four years with Edzo and you together.

Speaker 3 (01:22:27):
So ed Zo, best to you, man. We'll keep in touch.

Speaker 2 (01:22:30):
And I know, like you said, I know those texts
will be coming in during games oftentimes oftentimes on a
set as I look down, it'll just save my phone.

Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
Is it? Wait?

Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Is that is that Scott Malone, our producer, No, it's
ed Zo. All right, I'll wait on that one for.

Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
A second.

Speaker 13 (01:22:45):
Night out.

Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
It's great stuff, guys, Thank you so much for john
Thanks for doing this with us. We appreciate it. I'll
let you get I'll let you get back to Maine

often because people want to John you know believe this,
People want to hear more from him. I get text
on the text line here at the radio station, we
want more Edzo, so we'll have to figure out how
to do that.

Speaker 9 (01:23:07):
I doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (01:23:11):
Thanks ed Ze, Thanks you bet, buddy, you bet you everybody.

Speaker 6 (01:23:16):
Thanks to everybody in uh in the sea.

Speaker 3 (01:23:18):
Man, that's ed Joe, Johnny great stuff.

Clayton Kruger, as well before I check in with Rob
Rang here for a visit. We're gonna talk all Seahawks

(01:24:46):
but big thanks to my friends Ferrellispizza dot com. And
one of the things that those guys they're great in
the community. Whatever community they're in South Sounder's they're all
over the place. A brand new location in edam Claw.
The clause would call it right next to Petzpole Rennix
to the football stadium for high school footall Steam. There's
also a bunch of other playfields there, so we've got

(01:25:06):
games down there. A great place to go, close to
the golf course, in edam Claw as well and next
to the fairgrounds. It is a sensational location, but big
thanks to them. They were big supporters of the Mayor
of Maple Valley, open providing some things for us, and
I cannot thank them enough. I cannot thank the folks
all through the Ferrellis family enough for their support, not
just from my community event, but for so many others.

(01:25:27):
We were this there a couple nights ago for a
good friend of ours and my son's engagement party. I
got engaged that day. They celebrated the Frellis in Maple Valley.
I am still a fan of every pizza I've ever
had there.

Speaker 3 (01:25:41):
I know this.

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
My friend Rob rang likes the Northwest traditional Italian Fennel sausage,
thick cut pepperoni, baked basil red pepper flakes, mozzarella provolom,
finished with a drizzle of honey cream, cheese sauce, freshly
grated parmesan.

Speaker 5 (01:26:00):

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
I am doing it to you again, and I'm also
doing it to Rob because he too doesn't have one
of those in front of him.

Speaker 3 (01:26:05):
My Rob, how are you?

Speaker 9 (01:26:07):
I am doing very well. Yes, you are making me hungry, sir.

Speaker 2 (01:26:10):
I know you're a fan too with Frellis you intend
to if people might run into Rob rang Is, which one.

Speaker 9 (01:26:18):
Or Lacy? I like I said, if you have.

Speaker 15 (01:26:22):
If anybody out there ever sees me in an extra slice,
I'll be happy to sit down and talk a little
bit of ball.

Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
And I like that.

Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
All the cost you is a piece of pizza with
Rob rang And and check it out for Ellispizza dot com.
All right, Ranger, of course Fox sports dot Com also
wears a second hat. He is a scout for the
Canadian Football League's British Columbia Lions. So you're out and
about after seeing the Seahawks this week, you're also now
heading out to see some other teams. We won't worry

(01:26:50):
about those teams, although we may pick your bring later
on down the road. About that, as you look around,
I'm gonna ask you a general question, Robin, just you've
been doing this for a long time, as far as
from the scout standpoint, whether it was whether it's with
Fox sports dot Com before that with NFL Draft scout
dot Com and some other entities, and now as well
with the CFL. So you've you've been watching these these

(01:27:11):
Seahawks training camp practices for a while, including after they
won a Super Bowl back in twenty thirteen. In a
general sense, what you were able to lay eyes on
this week out at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. How
would you describe the talent level? And I'm not talking
so much about the talent level that's going to be
that you know and feel strong are going to be

(01:27:31):
on the fifty three man, what about all those dudes
that are the thirty odd players that are fighting for
a roster spot that may or may not be here
and will end up getting cut at the end of August.
How would you describe the talent level compared to past years.

Speaker 15 (01:27:46):
I think that the Seahawks are probably the most gifted
and deep team in all of the NFL. You know,
it's funny you mentioned my job as a scout with
a DC Lions. Know, I'm always looking for the players
that are on the fringe that aren't going to make
an NFL roster be that you know, it would be

(01:28:07):
very good players at the Canadian Football League And frankly,
there's not very many that are going to get cut
by the Seahawks that I think are going to be
able to go up north because they're going to get
Pilford by some other NFL team. I think that that
is just a testament to the scouting of the Seahawks,
the depth. There's certainly a lot of veteran players, so
we all know the superstars that the Seattle has, but

(01:28:30):
their young talent, to me is what is most intriguing
about the Seahawks. And when you start talking about the
possibility of running it forward for another Super Bowl run,
I think that is one of their strengths is that
this is not a team that is heavily reliant on
one or two, or three or even ten players. If

(01:28:52):
they do have a catastrophic injury to one of their superstars,
They've got quality talent weighing the wings, just eager for
that opportunity to start.

Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
Yeah, it's I think it also says something the ability
to draft and sign undrafted free agents really over the
last two or three years. I had somebody tell me
this week, and I think it's true. It's probably the
reason we see such a small class of rookies, just
thirteen rookies on the roster right now for Seattle. There's

(01:29:21):
you know, the eight draft picks and five undrafted free
agents that are here. It's a small relatively, I mean
by NFL standards, Rob, you're running around the league and
watching other teams, that's a very small class. But doesn't
that just speak to what you just said, how deep
and talented they are and also fairly young. The guys
they've picked up the last few years.

Speaker 15 (01:29:39):
No question about it, you and I mean, it's it's
miscule in terms of their undrafted free agent class compared
to other NFL teams, and even very small and compared
to what the Seahawks have done in the past. And
I think that that is something that you know, agents
out there representing these young college players, they recognized Seatle's depths,
and they certainly recognize that over the last depths or so,

(01:30:01):
the Seahawks have been one of the absolute best teams
in terms of just giving undrafted free agents a real
opportunity to make their team.

Speaker 9 (01:30:07):
You know, a lot of NFL teams they only.

Speaker 15 (01:30:10):
Practice their rookie, their their draft picks. Really in the
undrafted free agents essentially are blocking dummies. And I hate
to use that expression, but that's that's basically what the
role that they play with the Seahawks, that they're giving
guys opportunities. They're mixing and matching, and you were seeing
the rookies get meaningful snaps.

Speaker 9 (01:30:28):
And a real opportunity. So that's been in the past.

Speaker 15 (01:30:31):
This year, I think that the Seattle uh smartly recognized
the fact that their their their depth chart is stacked
and if they weren't going to get very many undrafted
free agents. And that's why when after John Schneider said
hello to us in the draft room on Day three, uh,
then he you know, he went to work and made
some trades to acquire those three seventh round selections. I

(01:30:55):
think those are players that Seattle targeted as possible undrafted
free agent types, but they wreck guys they were not
likely to get them. So if you want them, then
trade down, acquire the draft picks and select them. And
you know, that's actually one of the ways. One of
the spots I want to kind of make sure that
we talk about is the cornerback Michael Dansby.

Speaker 9 (01:31:13):
He was see How's last draft pick.

Speaker 15 (01:31:16):
And he's arguably been their flashiest rookie so far, with
the exception of course, of guys like Jadarium Price or
in their first round pick or Budd Clark their second
round pick.

Speaker 9 (01:31:25):
That This is.

Speaker 15 (01:31:26):
A player that wasn't even invited to the combine, didn't
work out at his prote because he had a core
muscle injury, and then he wound up he had an
interception in a couple of days ago. He tipped a
pass that Bud Clark returned for a touchdown in yesterday's practice.
That to me is an example of the undrafted free

(01:31:47):
agent type of players that see how actually wound up
drafting this year, and I think they're going to wind
up looking very smart.

Speaker 9 (01:31:53):
Because of it.

Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
Dansby's is funny.

Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
We talked about Dansby with your buddy Corbyn Smith, your
podcast partner, a couple of days, and he's telling me
that guys are that Seahawks scouts and others are saying, hey,
stop talking this guy up, Like they probably figured that
Dansby's a guy they could sneak through the practice squad.
But he's having that kind of camp. Word gets around
and then we'll see what he does in the preseason.
It's very, very very early in the process, but Michael

(01:32:17):
Dansby the seventh round pick, the third of three seventh
round picks. As Rob mentioned, their final pick, the rookie
out of Arizona has been impressive so far. Let's talk
about Jadarian Price, the running back first round pick from
Notre Dame. I heard Hugh Millen express some concerns this
week about body type, specifically kind of thin, skinny legs,
as he says, and you know, you wonder how that

(01:32:39):
can hold up. You know, the body type is a
big thing for John Schneider and how his staff drafts.
And you know what the body makeup is. You saw
Jedarion Price and you saw I don't want to put
words in your mouth here, but I think there was
some good and then there was maybe some some questions.

Speaker 3 (01:32:54):
Is that safe to say.

Speaker 15 (01:32:56):
There are some questions. There are some questions, you know.
I think the body type is a legitimate a concern.
I think the usage wallet Notre Dame. Of course, in
the history of the NFL, drafter has never been a
player who has been selected in the first round that
never even started at the college level.

Speaker 9 (01:33:13):
And that's exactly what Seattle did. So I understand the concerns.

Speaker 15 (01:33:17):
I just you know, I've kind of cut my teeth
in the scouting business by basically taking tape of players
and trying to extrapolate that to the NFL, and I
just think the Jedarian price as a skill set that
fits in beautifully in Seattle's wide zone offense. I mean,
he's just a very instinctive runner, and I think that
that is going to fit in nicely.

Speaker 9 (01:33:38):
Now.

Speaker 15 (01:33:39):
My biggest concern with him, and it's something that I
saw with my own eyes in person during Tuesday's practice,
but I also saw this on tape at Notre Dame.
If he just doesn't have that elite first step or
acceleration that we saw with Kennith Walker the Third for example,
or some of the other star running backs in the

(01:34:00):
l Some guys just once they put the ball in
their hand, they just had like rocket boosters attached to
their feet and they are gone. This guy doesn't have
that type of initial, immediate acceleration. He's got kind of
a gate to him that is patient, and it almost
reminds me a little bit. I've used the comparison to
the Hall of Famer Terrell Davis, and I know a

(01:34:21):
lot of Seahawks fans out there may not remember the
Hall of Fame with the Denver Broncos all the years ago.
Maybe they will remember Sean Alexander also a little bit
slow and methodical at first, but then once he sees
the hole, that's when he accelerates. And I love his
ability in the cutback. That's why I've always used the
comparison to Terrell Davis, who also played in the wide

(01:34:42):
zone offense, obviously very successfully in doing so. He just
has an ability to cut back against the grant to
be able to anticipate where the hole is going to be,
kind of Peter Patti's feet a little.

Speaker 9 (01:34:53):
Bit, and then put himself in.

Speaker 15 (01:34:54):
Position to accelerate, you know, after he's already kind of
got himself moved. It's deceptive. It's hard for defensive for
defenders to kind of line them up and get good
tackles on him. And that's one of the reasons why
I do think that his ability to make people miss,
his ability to kind of uh use his strong upper
body to uh, you know, to be able to bounce

(01:35:17):
off would be tacklers.

Speaker 9 (01:35:18):
I think that he's going to be.

Speaker 15 (01:35:19):
Very successful for the Seahoxy and that's one of the
reasons why I projected that he was going to be
their selection, and I'm projecting as well now he's going
to be RB one for this team. He's going to
be a Rookie of the Year candidate, in my opinion,
a big reason why Siaos poised to run it forward
again this uptement season.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
Rob bran Jonas Cursia Frois Pizza. He's schemed specific, then,
is that what you're saying.

Speaker 9 (01:35:41):
I don't think that he's scheming specific specific.

Speaker 15 (01:35:43):
I think they could be very successful in a variety
of different NFL offenses. I just think that he is
perfectly suited to the Wye zone system where basically, again
you're you're asking players to kind of run to the
outside and then have the advision to be able to
your hole.

Speaker 9 (01:36:01):
Rather than in the.

Speaker 15 (01:36:02):
Gap scheme where it's power there's going to be one
hole here and if it's not there, then it's a
little bit more reliant on.

Speaker 9 (01:36:08):
The offensive line.

Speaker 15 (01:36:09):
This one, the offensive line is going to be given,
offering him several different opportunities.

Speaker 9 (01:36:15):
And I like his vision.

Speaker 15 (01:36:16):
I like his his ability to again make people miss
at the at the point of attack and then be
able to string move together to get into the open field.
Where that speed is officially four four nine in the
forty yard dash. That speed is so much faster on
the football field than it is on track.

Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
It is Rob rang joining us here on the b
complting hotlink, Turtesy of Forelli's Pizza Freliespizza dot Com. Of
the of the rookie class, and you mentioned Michael Dan's
be the corner out of Arizona jumping out. Price obviously
is the first round pick. Of the other guys Clark,
Neil Stevens, Henderson, Ford Eastern, obviously he's on the pup
so he's not out there. Then there's the five undrafted

(01:36:57):
guys Hubbard, Ciamalo Jones, Junior Mason Rochelle. Who are the
other guys that caught your attention as far as the
rookie classes concerned.

Speaker 15 (01:37:06):
Certainly the pick six by Budd Clark and definitely grabs
your attention. I mean he you know, he's been playing
a little bit more of that traditional deep safety and
obviously Seattle has as a star and Julian Love a
very good player, underrated player in Tayakatta as well, and
that's where Bun Clark's im playing.

Speaker 9 (01:37:25):
And it's interesting because he does have the length and.

Speaker 15 (01:37:28):
The speed that you're looking for at that pre safety position,
and he certainly has the ball skills and so that
to me was the splashiest play I saw from any
of the rookies, with maybe the exception of Jarian Price
is wheel routchdown. That was again one of the questions
people had about him is well can he be a
task catcher? And of course Ian, you and I talked
about this when Sele selected him. The Notre Dame head

(01:37:50):
coach Marcus Freeman was not going to be putting a
player back there that as a kick and punt returner
that didn't have good ball skills.

Speaker 9 (01:37:56):
So that's what I mean. I kind of.

Speaker 15 (01:37:58):
Extrapolate what I saw and he would be successful as
a pass catcher. That's where Jadari and Price also excelled.
Bud Clark's same thing. We knew he had balls because
think he had sixteen interceptions over his college career, but
to see it in person, to see off of a
deflection where of course the deflection you have to have
very quick reaction ability and that's one of the things

(01:38:19):
that he did, and then he has the breakaway speed
to turn it back into a touchdown. So very excited
about Seatle's top two selections and Julian Neil the Unfortunately
he was nicked up and wasn't able to practice on Tuesday.
He suffered some type of a minor injury the day before.
He was walking around on the field. I suspect sawle

(01:38:39):
just being precautious, just being cautious with him. But at
the same time, when you watch him on tape, it's funny.
Bud Clark as a safety is built a little bit
more like a cornerback. He sixty one hundred and eighty
five pounds. Julian Neil at six one, two hundred pounds.
He looks and hits like a safety. I'm excited to
see what he's going to be able to provide Seattle
because that third cornerback position is one that's very much

(01:39:02):
up for grabs.

Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
Rob But there are to speak of the of the
youth on this team's a it's a ninety man roster.
There's twenty four second year players on that ninety man roster.
Out of that twenty four, I believe at sixteen or
seventeen we're with the Seahawks last season practice squad and
or some were combo practice squad and fifty three man,

(01:39:25):
but they were with the team last season. We talked
about those guys, some of those guys before camp started
let's kind of go back down that road for a second,
because I'm there are some guys that you know, you
probably expect to make a step forward this season, and
you know, seeing Tory Horton healthy, Let's just start there
for a second. Let's just start with Horton. He's healthy,
he's out there, he's doing things. How big an ad

(01:39:45):
can that be to this team?

Speaker 9 (01:39:48):
It could be massive.

Speaker 15 (01:39:49):
I mean, I've got some One of the biggest reasons
why that, you know, John Scheider wisely made the trade
for Rashid shihit is just because he recognized that without
Tori Horton on the field as a return man and
as an outside vertical threat, and they were lacking in
that spot.

Speaker 9 (01:40:07):
So to have Tory Horton back with Rashid Shaheed, both.

Speaker 15 (01:40:10):
Of them presumably healthy long term, then that just is
almost an embarrassment of riches because you just think about it,
It's going to create much more vertical threat that is
going to open up the middle for guys like Jackson
Smith and Jig and Cooper Cup to really excel, Jake
Bobo as well, and certainly see tight ends also, It's
just going to create this massive vacuum in the middle

(01:40:32):
of the field to attack, and so I'm really excited
about Tory Horton's returning. It's funny he did struggle with
injury at Colorado State. That's the reason why he fell
to the fifth round a couple of years ago. Because
when you see him on tipia when he's healthy, he
is dynamic, there is no question about it. And so
that's the thing is that now that he is healthy,
I was watching him a lot yesterday just to kind

(01:40:54):
of see how fluidly he was moving, and he looks
like the exact same guy that was Colorado State. Will
saw catch or score six touchdowns a year ago as
a rookie when he barely even got into the field,
you know, I mean, this wasn't a guy that is
the first round selection, was put onto the field immediately.
I mean, he had to kind of carve out his spots.

(01:41:15):
The opponents in the NFL, of course, didn't know what
to expect from him because they were focusing on Jackson
Smith and Jagba and Cooper cup and and Tory Horton
took advantage of that one on one opportunities that he
was getting to create the big plays. NFL teams are
going to know who he is. Now, they're going to
be shielded. They're going to be trying to put a
little bit more emphasis on on covering him deep and

(01:41:37):
again that's just going to create more opportunities for everybody else.

Speaker 2 (01:41:39):
Let me, I'll let it be a scout's choice here.
There's a bunch of other second year guys. I'm curious
about Elijah Arroyo in what is a very deep and
crowded tight end room got even more so this week
with the audition of Nick Venette. He's coming into his
second year was banged. That didn't put a lot of
production up, but we know what he has skill set wise.
Riley Mills, who saw him the Super Bowl defensive lineman.

(01:42:02):
You talked about the line of the offensive line and
Cable Dude, Richmond Amari Kite, guys like that. Maybe, but Jacardi,
you're right the running back who maybe made it easier
to not wait around to see when Kenny mcintoss is
gonna get healthy. I'll let you you figure out who
you want to talk about amongst those guys.

Speaker 15 (01:42:18):
Well, let's start off with Riley Mills and just you know,
you mentioned the Super Bowl sack. I think that that
was an example of what he does best.

Speaker 4 (01:42:27):
You got just raw power to him.

Speaker 15 (01:42:29):
And he's six foot five, he's two hundred and ninety
five pounds, and he can play that traditional kind of
defensive tackle. Those are kind of a role. I like
him better as more of a traditional base defensive end
and just because of this power.

Speaker 9 (01:42:43):
But my point is that he has the versatility to
slide up and down the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 15 (01:42:48):
The only underplayer on Sials Ross I think that really
can do that is, of course, Leonard Williams. You know,
the number one rated defensive tackle in all of the NFL,
at least according to you know, the ESPN's rankings and
their comment the comments that they received from NFL teams
and personnel. I mean, any time you're comparing a fifth

(01:43:09):
round rookie a year ago to arguably the best defensive
lineman in all of the NFL, then that's obviously pretty
heavy stuff. I just think that Riley Mills is a
is a budding star and the reason why he fell
to the fifth round, similar to Tory Horton, is because
of durability.

Speaker 9 (01:43:25):
But if he can be healthy, then he's not just
going to be.

Speaker 15 (01:43:28):
A contributed contributor To's defensive line. He's going to push
for meaningful snaps and so of course has some uh
you know, some some age at that defensive tackle position.
So I'm really excited about Riley Mills. And then speaking
of exciting, uh, you know, Elijah or Royal. To me,
that was one of the splash of your plays from

(01:43:48):
yesterday in the very first touchdown that was strown. And
this was a day where Seal's offense was humming, uh Actus.
Mike McDonald kind of said that, you know, he was
disappointed how the practice that with Jaylen Monroe at quarterback
they weren't able to score. It felt like there was
a little bit more emphasis on the offense really getting going.

(01:44:09):
And so Sam Donald led Seattle on an opening drive
touchdown and it was to Elijah Arroyo. To me, what
was most exciting about it. It was a kind of
a back shoulder throw to the left side of the
of the end zone and Elijah Arroyo was blanketed by
I can't remember which corner it was, but it was
one of Seattle's starting corners. I believe it was Josh

(01:44:29):
Job and just the timing, the precision of the throw
by Sam Darnald. The turnaround recognition by Elijah roy snatched
the ball out of the air. I mean he was
open for a split second, but because he's so big
at six point five two hundred and fifty pounds with
those long arms and those receiver like hands, and he
was able to pluck the ball for an easy touchdown.

(01:44:50):
That again just kind of shows you what type of
potential that he had. So I'm very excited for what
Elijah Arroyo might be able to provide. And as you
mentioning tight end room is stacked, it might be as
good as any team in all.

Speaker 9 (01:45:03):
Of the NFL.

Speaker 15 (01:45:04):
And we just got a little bit of a hint
of it last year at AJ Barner having his I
wouldn't say the breakoup because he was he was really
good as a rookie, but he was even better at
his past season. Now that tight end riom has that
much more versatile, with the Royal hopefully healthy all year long.

Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
Yeah, I mean there's six tight ends on the roster,
Royal Lance Mason, Eric Salbert, Nick Vannette, A J.

Speaker 3 (01:45:24):
Barner, Nick Callier up.

Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
And I mean out of those guys, Lance Mason, the
rookie out of Wisconsin and undrafted free agent. I mean,
he's got the hardest road to get there. You can
make a case for the other five guys all being
on the roster, I mean, who do you let go of?
And att they brought in. They brought Vanette in for
a reason. I'm not sure what that reason is, but
they brought him in at the age of thirty three.
Cali Up is a guy that gave him some good
snaps last season, Salbert, we all know what he did.

(01:45:47):
And then obviously Barner's healthy too, so it's probably as
deep a position group as they have.

Speaker 15 (01:45:53):
Rob.

Speaker 2 (01:45:53):
We will talk more as the training camp in preseason approaches,
but in the meantime, safe travels as you make your
way around on some other places around the West coast
of the NFL, scouting for the BC Lions and of
course working for Fox sports dot com. My friend, great stuff,
we'll talk soon.

Speaker 9 (01:46:09):
Sounds great. Thanks for having me on as always, Rob.

Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
Rang brought to you by Ferrelli's Pizza Ferrellispizza dot com.
Look for a location in your neighborhood. We'll take a break,
come back and wrap things up for a week here
at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center on ninety three point
three KJFM.

Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest Snow call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM.

Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
Yeah, I think cal is.

Speaker 12 (01:46:46):
Going to be bad for the rest of the year.
For this bad at least. I mean, small's the first
day of August. Man, we got less than fifty games
to go. And dude, there's no way he's gonna sniff
two hundred.

Speaker 11 (01:46:59):
This is who he is.

Speaker 3 (01:47:00):
This here.

Speaker 12 (01:47:01):
Just accept it, and you know what, give me the
Seahawks Patriots Week one and then I'm gonna forget all
about this team until March.

Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
The pessimism is reigning supreme shocking with our baseball team,
he says, Just get the Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (01:47:19):
We're at Seahawks right now.

Speaker 5 (01:47:20):
It's all good.

Speaker 3 (01:47:21):
Things are good out here, man.

Speaker 2 (01:47:22):
Those are good today. A little feisty today with this
defending Super Bowl channel. I'm feisty out here, Yeah, a
little feisty.

Speaker 3 (01:47:29):
It's okay, it's all good.

Speaker 16 (01:47:30):
You have one more, all right, this is your old
friend the ancient Mariner.

Speaker 3 (01:47:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:47:37):
I really hate to agree with the analytics soccer Leven Andrews,
but he's right. If you say this team is good,
that's kind of like saying that George Arjoris was a
better owner than Danny.

Speaker 11 (01:47:50):
Kay.

Speaker 5 (01:47:55):
I don't know who any of those guys.

Speaker 3 (01:47:56):
Are, but o'kay. How many references that you don't get?
But I like the shot at you in the middle
of I'm alling on that. I'm all in on that.

Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
Okay, let's see Ian Alo weents in Red Blacks sixty
one and a half over under a night. What do
you think that's a CFL game?

Speaker 5 (01:48:10):
Oh, God, degenerous, I think.

Speaker 2 (01:48:13):
Well, here's what I would say you would if you're
talking about a CFL game, you always go the over.

Speaker 3 (01:48:19):
Yeah, just go the over.

Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
Yeah, listen, it'd be Uncanadian not to go with the over,
much like it's on American not to go the over.

Speaker 9 (01:48:26):
Here.

Speaker 5 (01:48:26):
It's true, right, it's true.

Speaker 3 (01:48:28):
Come on, just go with the over.

Speaker 7 (01:48:29):
All.

Speaker 3 (01:48:29):
Right, let's see, I agree with Andrews.

Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
It's irresponsible to be buyers at the treadline when you're
an average team with a mid market payroll.

Speaker 3 (01:48:36):
Trade Randy and Kirby and retool for next year. Wow. Wow,
really we're going down that road.

Speaker 5 (01:48:45):
I don't think they'll do it, but no, there's an
argument for it.

Speaker 7 (01:48:48):
No there is. Ian.

Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
I'm forty three give up on the marriags Is organization
officially in twenty twenty two. I did not chump on
the bandwagon in twenty three or twenty five. I just
decided the anger, disappointment, fusion stressed the manners gave me
two hundred plus days a year wasn't worth it. I
hold no ill will to people who are still die
hard ma minnor fans. I just decided the negativity they
brought me for decades wasn't for me. Wow, I'm gonna

(01:49:13):
invite you to come on back, Just come on back.
Part of being a sports fan is being miserable. That's
just part of it.

Speaker 5 (01:49:19):
Trust me, at least a Seattle one.

Speaker 2 (01:49:21):
I mean just yes, yeah, I mean come on, let's
let's if you couldn't enjoy what happened last year, dang man,
what's happened to you?

Speaker 3 (01:49:32):
What happened? Sad, isn't it?

Speaker 4 (01:49:37):
Boy?

Speaker 3 (01:49:37):
A lot of people anti cal I can tell you that. Yep,
I do like this one.

Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
I'm all in on this storyline, because what the hell,
let's find a reason season was cursed. When Cal gave
Randy the cold shoulder in the WBC.

Speaker 3 (01:49:51):
That was it.

Speaker 5 (01:49:52):
I don't think that's necessarily untrue.

Speaker 4 (01:49:54):
By the way, uh.

Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Employ the mul whoppers is a step up from hash
and point them Molly Waters to step up from hashtag.

Speaker 3 (01:50:02):
Refuse to talk. See there's some fans out there.

Speaker 4 (01:50:05):
That's true.

Speaker 16 (01:50:05):
There, that's true.

Speaker 3 (01:50:06):
There were Okay, what else we got going? Ian's out
there grinding on guys?

Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
What did I say?

Speaker 3 (01:50:15):
Did I say that earlier? I probably missed the Yeah, yeah,
I probably did.

Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
Probably did along the way you are who your record
says you are, Well, then they're just kind of mad, right,
just kinda that's who they are.

Speaker 5 (01:50:27):
It's they're under five hundred. If that's and I think
that's they're closer to an under five hundred team than
they are a playoff team.

Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
Somebody's mad because Rob rang was talking about body type
like Shiner doesn't already know do the homework. They're happening
to fit their style the same way a chan in
Miami put people on the radio that know what they're
talking about. This guy must be related to Greg Bell,
so he's ripping on Rob Greg and by the way,
you're also ripping on Hugh Millin because what Rob Rang

(01:50:55):
and Greg Bell have said about Jadarian Price just legs
and stuff like that, it's the same thing that Hugh
Millen's talked about all week long. So I guess all
of our analysts are dumb.

Speaker 9 (01:51:06):
Is that what it is?

Speaker 3 (01:51:06):
That what I'm getting?

Speaker 2 (01:51:07):
This guy sounds so oli our so so Hugh sounds dumb.
Rob sounds dumb. Greg sounds dumb. We all sound dumb.

Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
Okay, all right, gotcha?

Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
Uh, somebody else is giving us another emphasis on the
molly wap. Oh we should talk about Monday, by the
way a little bit. Yeah, right, So trade deadline coming
up on Monday, three o'clock Pacific time.

Speaker 3 (01:51:30):
Correct, I'm right on that, I'm correct.

Speaker 2 (01:51:33):
Okay, So we will mollywop Monday, probably at one normal time,
and then I think the plan is all that we'll
kind of keep Chris on the old on the old
zoom on the old zoom call and keep him out
there for a while and just kind of have him
almost on a standby for that moon final hour from
two to three, just in case anything happens, because we

(01:51:55):
did that last year. That kind of seemed to work
out pretty good. Right well, you know, yeah, you'll be
able to see him. He can wave you and you
can say a I and here's what's going on. Let's
go to Chris Chris and and I'm I'm assuming since
I know Chris, he's the ultimate consummate professional. We we
did this in the past when Kurtis Kraft, he was
working for us with the NFL free agency, did a
few a couple of days, and Curtis would like be

(01:52:17):
hitting the sounder, like we gave him the power to
hit the sounder.

Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
And break in.

Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
Oh god, yeah, he was doing it when a long
snapper got signed by the Jacksonville Jaguar. So we will,
we will, and I love you Curtis to death, buddy.
But not every move is a move we need to
worry about.

Speaker 3 (01:52:36):
Let's just say that I like that. You know, if
the if the Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (01:52:42):
Reds trade a a you know, low leverage reliever to
the Diamondbacks for a player to be named later, we
won't really worry about that that happen, could happens, won't
worry about that, But we'll worry about the other ones
along the way. So we'll kind of have our our
basis cover. Yes, who will that's a baseball pun for you.
By the way, on a Friday, well of our base

(01:53:04):
is covered on Monday. There you go with that, getting
ready to go molly wop and everything else. I'm telling
you they're gonna win two three this weekend.

Speaker 5 (01:53:09):
And all right and you say, no, what world has happened?
What reality are we living in?

Speaker 3 (01:53:17):
Now? They're gonna win two or three this weekend? Okay,
bank it take that one to the bank.

Speaker 5 (01:53:23):
All right, I hope some for my postcast purposes.

Speaker 2 (01:53:25):
Hey, that one to the bank. Softie joins us from
Cheenie Stadium. We'll see who's thereon who's not me to
call some guys up.

Speaker 3 (01:53:32):
We'll find out next. Already, let's head in or down
to Cheenie Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
We'll check in with our Tacoma Radiers correspondence, Dave Softy Maller,
who's standing by?

Speaker 3 (01:53:55):
What are the moves? An he moves?

Speaker 5 (01:53:56):
Who's been scratched? Who's coming up? What's going on?

Speaker 4 (01:53:58):
What do you know? Yes, I know, I know nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:54:01):
I don't think so, I didn't think so.

Speaker 4 (01:54:02):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 17 (01:54:03):
There's a refrigerator here full of Uh, let's see what
do we got. We got coke zero, we got sprite,
we got diet coke minute made. Uh what is that estrella?
Jalisco beer? There's a stella in there, Michelobultra.

Speaker 4 (01:54:18):
It's amazing.

Speaker 17 (01:54:19):
On Michelobultra has gotten as big as they are, man,
they're huge everywhere you go.

Speaker 4 (01:54:23):
Michela Bultra.

Speaker 3 (01:54:24):
Are you yeah?

Speaker 12 (01:54:26):
Thing?

Speaker 3 (01:54:26):
Are you? H? So you in the rain? Your club
downs called Summit Club.

Speaker 17 (01:54:29):
No, we are in a suite at Jennie Stadium. Oh well,
hell they don't let us in there. Oh well that's
above our grade. Sweets better than what I.

Speaker 3 (01:54:39):
Just mentioned, So that's not bad.

Speaker 4 (01:54:42):
Probably there's no food in here, man, well that's not good.

Speaker 17 (01:54:47):
We came down here the first time, came down here
a couple of years ago, and they were literally serving us.

Speaker 4 (01:54:52):
Like diabetes on a plate.

Speaker 17 (01:54:53):
It was unbelievable the stuff they would bring us, man, anything,
anything you wanted. And then they finally wi up and say, yeah,
you know we're going to stop that.

Speaker 3 (01:55:02):
So, yeah, you guys eat too much.

Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
I don't know too much along the way anyway, what's
going on back there?

Speaker 2 (01:55:09):
Well, it's it's the warmest day here. So you're quite
happy you're not going to be cooking in the tent
for the next four hours.

Speaker 3 (01:55:14):
I can tell you that.

Speaker 4 (01:55:14):
Yeah, I don't mind that, you know.

Speaker 17 (01:55:16):
I mean, we kind of figured it out that if
you hang a big bed sheet off the tent and
block the view from the west, you're you're in good shape.

Speaker 4 (01:55:23):
But it does get a little hot out there. Man,
I don't know.

Speaker 17 (01:55:26):
I mean, it's it's training camp and six days away
from the Hall of Fame game. When's the first Seahawk
preseason game?

Speaker 4 (01:55:32):
When's that happening?

Speaker 17 (01:55:33):
That would be two weeks from tomorrow, sir, two weeks
from tomorrow the Seahawks play.

Speaker 5 (01:55:37):
I don't know you care about the preseason.

Speaker 4 (01:55:39):
I don't eat the win so I can avoid it.

Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
Fifteenth of August against the Dallas Cowboys into town.

Speaker 4 (01:55:46):
And is that like a Thursday night, one night of
the week.

Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
That would be a Saturday surday at five pm?

Speaker 4 (01:55:51):
Thank god?

Speaker 3 (01:55:52):
Awesome? Yes, love it. You'll be there, You'll be there
with us. No, no, I will not be there, Okay,
all right, all.

Speaker 4 (01:55:56):
Right, nope.

Speaker 17 (01:55:57):
I give away my preseason tickets every single year year.
I think there's only one home preseason game this year.
Sounds right, Saturday, August to fifteenth.

Speaker 4 (01:56:05):
And I will not be to that game.

Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
Then they go to Nashville and.

Speaker 4 (01:56:09):
And then Kansas City after that.

Speaker 3 (01:56:10):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (01:56:11):
Okay, Yeah, the Chiefs come back here two games.

Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
That are hot as hell.

Speaker 11 (01:56:15):
Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (01:56:16):
Yeah yeah, all right.

Speaker 4 (01:56:19):
And you want my you want my Seahawk Cowboy preseason game?

Speaker 3 (01:56:23):
Okay, See, you don't care inury? You anti preseason too?
Are you an anti preseason guy?

Speaker 5 (01:56:28):
I mean, I'm a baseball guy. I'm too focused on
the baseball season at that point.

Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Well, yeah, let me let me point. Let me point
something out their tips. It's uh, looking at the text line,
you're starting to becoming the minority a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:56:38):
A lot of people.

Speaker 17 (01:56:38):
There could be nothing going on, and I still would
not be interested in that preseason game. And you know
who else isn't interested in it? The Seahawks because nobody
will play. Nobody of significance.

Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
Will play in that game.

Speaker 5 (01:56:51):
No one watch.

Speaker 4 (01:56:52):
Jalen Milroe, Sam Donald won't take one snap in.

Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
The prest time Donald, thank you, thank you, please say
names correctly, thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:57:01):
Well, he will not.

Speaker 2 (01:57:02):
And I looked at uh, I looked at Dallas last year.
What they did in the first preseason game. And I
can pretty much tell you that that's the same philosophy
that Shoty has gone there.

Speaker 17 (01:57:11):
Yeah, I mean it's the same philosophy everybody's gotten around
the league. So I think we're all we're all, we're
all suckers forgetting hoodwinked and even buying these tickets.

Speaker 2 (01:57:19):
For God's sakes, well, they make you right if you're
season ticket over yes, correct, like you're forced like a
gun to your head you have to buy a preseason game.
I was gonna say, I had a salesperson from the
Seahawks show up to my house with a pistol and said,
you want your tickets, you better buy these tickets.

Speaker 4 (01:57:35):
He said, okay, fine, I'll buy him. I don't want
to give me the damn tickets.

Speaker 3 (01:57:39):
That's not perfect. Sure, yeah, whatever you need, man, whatever
you need.

Speaker 17 (01:57:43):
But I always I always give him away to somebody.
And there they seem to be pretty happy to go
and thrilled, so you know, it's nice to Uh. We
had our first little scuffle today between who pretty good. Well,
we had a little one the other day, but first
one good one.

Speaker 10 (01:57:56):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:57:56):
I believe it was Leonard Williams and uh a, J.

Speaker 4 (01:57:59):
Barner is real.

Speaker 3 (01:58:00):
It was fucking it's about one hundred yards from Ron'm sitting.

Speaker 2 (01:58:03):
But yeah, okay, I'm gonna guess you don't want your
starting tight end and your best defensive lineman getting into I.

Speaker 17 (01:58:09):
Mean I don't mind it, you know, things getting a
little child, as long as there's no punches thrown or
fingers broken or wrist sprained or whatever.

Speaker 3 (01:58:18):
At no, he's just pushing a shovel, okay.

Speaker 17 (01:58:22):
I mean the best one ever was Russell Wilson and
Richard Sherman, with Sherman just annihilating him at picking him
off and telling him how much he sucked.

Speaker 4 (01:58:30):
Right, was that the first showed up here in twelve?
Is that when that happened?

Speaker 2 (01:58:34):
No is after that, No after it was it was
it was when things are starting to go downhill. That
would have been like in fifteen sixteen, things are going
earl standing off to the side, holding in cam was
order to be found, twenty nine has got a bucket
hat on, doesn't want to practice, and thirty one was
just chilling by a pool somewhere.

Speaker 17 (01:58:53):
I missed those days. I mean, I love what we
got now, but I missed those days. I really do mean,
I would have been in drama. Man, I's done.

Speaker 3 (01:59:00):
Witherspoon's doing as much as he's doing, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:59:02):
And well he's got two years left, so you know,
it's not like.

Speaker 3 (01:59:05):
He's, well, he's got one plus the option.

Speaker 2 (01:59:07):
But they're gonna right, I mean, it's just it's just
that it's that little race between him and is that
race between him and Gonzalez who's gonna sign first? Right,
And they're both repped by the same agent. I think
ye rep by the same agent. Both gonna make a
ton of money. So all right, your Genie Stadium. What's
up coming on show today? I think Chuck's gonna swing by.

Speaker 17 (01:59:25):
He's doing the game on AM Riley today or Sacrament
on the rainiars at seven o five, so he'll be
on the air doing the game.

Speaker 4 (01:59:31):
Midlan's gonna hop on.

Speaker 17 (01:59:32):
Phil Steele will join us from Phil Steele's College Football Preview,
our official unofficial kickoff for the college football season. At six,
we will go over our predictions for last night's performance
from Brian wu See how we did not a little.

Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
Bit of a hint.

Speaker 5 (01:59:49):
We were way off, Jack, we were way off, way off, right.

Speaker 3 (01:59:56):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:58):
All right, enjoyed, Genie Stadiu. Hopefully they bring you some food.
I don't want you to starve down there, buddy, Thank
you
