that was awesome. This is different, probably better, bigger, yes,

spread out all over the place. Now, salt Lake did
it right. They did a downtown medal ceremony every night

see this team actually come out, put together an offensive

what this week reminded me of is that for all
of their flaws, when this team is great and when
they are awesome as much fun as last year was,
for most of this decade, what has driven the success
of this franchise has been the starting pitching, and the

up seven runs in six games they had every single
starter went at least six innings. Two went into the
eighth inning, the other two went into the seventh. I think,
just a phenomenal, dominating performance that overcomes so many other
roster inadequacies that we're seeing. They still, Saturday Aside, are
really struggling to score in a way that feels consistent

and repeatable. They still can't play defense to save their life.
JP Crawford made another one of the very worst throws
that I've ever seen in my life this week from
third base. So there are still problems. But when you
run out a rotation like this that is capable of
just completely it, they just wash over everything else because
they're so dominant and so good, and it was so

great with an injured bullpen. I already mentioned it, but
just to see take that bullpen leverage stuff out of it.
You don't have to worry about it. Don't make Dan
Wilson have to rem remember how to stack together three
or four relievers at a time. Just go into the

don't overthink it. You have the best and deepest rotation
into the American League. Let it eat because that is

happening is figuring out a way to make a move

for one of these starters to go get a bat
to help you get to the World Series. And you
know the reason you can do that is because you
have some pitching depth in the minors. You have a
guy like Kate Anderson who could come up and help you.
You have a guy like Ryan Sloan who theoretically could
come up and help you, and you have the prospects
too if something bad were to happen, make a trade
for a back end starter here. But I think the

piggyback should go away. It was way more of a
like you mentioned last week, and its escapegoat for what
was going on with everything. But it just makes more
sense to have these five guys and while they're here,

fair on an inside fastball. And what I've seen from
Cal a lot from the left side is that the
hands and the head of the bat are coming through

to Chris's point on the timing. He's hit three, four,

maybe more balls that would be home runs if he
kept them fair down that right field line. That's the
timing thing, and that's the encouraging thing about that bomb.
On Saturday. They again went into his kit in there
and he kept it fair off the walls of the
hit it here cafe. So if he starts doing that,
if he can just get that timing on that inside pitch,
I think that's what makes it work. From the left
side at least. The right handed thing is a whole

other ball of wax, and I think it's a completely
different swing. But timing wise, look for him just making
that great contact, that lift contact. This is what he
has such a nice loop and natural loop in that
left handed swing on inside pitches. He just needs to
keep the hands back just to hair more to keep
that ball fair. And if he's doing that, he'll be
right back to where he was.

And if another team has to do that, take your

I'm really rooting for Emerson Hancock to get the nod
here before the All Star Game because I think that'd

kind of forgotten guy that I'd love for him to
do it, and for the guy that got in. I mean, look,

Radio Rosarina is one of the best acquisitions of the
Jerry Depoto era, and I think it kind of flies
under the radar because it wasn't one of those this
team love. I've mentioned this before. This front off is
just loves being clever. They love trying to get guys
at the margins and like finding this unpolished gem and
getting this great value out of something and putting one

over another team. But Randy and Roserena was a great
player in Tampa Bay and the Marin has traded for
him to be a great player in Seattle, and he's
been a great player in Seattle. And I'm really happy
for him because going down the stretch last year and
through the playoffs, given his skill set in where he
was at in his age curve, there was reason to
think that maybe Randy was falling off and he wasn't
going to be a dependable everyday player this year. And

he's not only been that, he's saved their Butts this year.
He's been their best hitter pretty much since opening day,
so it couldn't be happening here for the guy. I
think that the Marinas will end up getting one or
two more arms in, and honestly, I know their record.
I know that they're in first place in the division. Dude,
there's not that many guys on this roster that deserve
to be All Stars this year. Let's just be honest
about it. It's fine, Chris, I don't care.

I wish none of them went and they all got

will be potential cast offs because of when they pitch.

And I don't remember when Gilbert and Miller are scheduled
to pitch, because who can know anything when you got
a piggyback potentially threatening your rotation order. But yeah, I mean, look,
none of the hitters were good enough outside of Randy A.
Rose Arena to get there, andres when you certainly wasn't
good enough in this first half to be a repeat

All Star, and none of the pitchers outside of Miller.
And again, the argument for Miller would have to be,
you probably have to double his innings in order to
justify putting him on this All Star team. So yeah,
that's ultimately where I end up with. And oh, by

second half is going to be good. I just can't
get too concerned about a bad June from Julio Rodriguez

United States are in a golden generation well minus let's

parents were just thinking about having kids. They raise them

particular game, it's actually the amp the crowd up because
what was maybe a negative going into this game and
maybe brought the US back down to even par with
Belgium with having a Balligan out their main go to guy.
He really structures the way that the US attack, and

he's obviously scored a number of goals in the World
Cup so far. The crowd will be into it, they'll
be so happy. Of course, it's just the other things
to go around it. So I think the US, let
mean listen that players are professional. The coach has been
through a lot of other distractions of the course of
his career, Pochettino, so he'll prepare these players. Once they
cross that white line, it'll all be noise and they'll

look at the positive side of things having their main
man on the field.

Yeah, Danny, I'm wondering what you think that Pochettino will
kind of frame this with his team, because you mentioned
that he's dealt with these kind of distractions in the past.
I almost feel like this will be almost a rallying
cry for these American players, kind of an US against

that actually be a positive with all this noise going on,

that they can kind of take that and run with
it a little bit here in the next for their run,

And I agree it has to be right. You have
to frame it as a positive. There's no question the
US team are better because Baligan's on the field, and
of course the manner in which he chose the US
and being born because his mother was not.

Through birthright he was able to play for the US.

But I think for you know, on the on the
foot side. Of course, Belgium will have as a rallying

you know, from a preferential treatment standpoint. So you could
have both camps, you know, framing this in very different ways,
but both probably in the same manner.

As you mentioned, it has to be a positive.

There's no way you can even allow any negativity to
come into that dressing room because the US has some
so many fantastic things fighting against ten men against Bosnia,
as the as the English did esday against Mexico in
a very you know, tough environment. You know, those things
galvanize you, and you know these are pros. They'll they'll
they'll figure these things out. But the coaching staff will

definitely make it a positive.

Question regarding whether you would start him or not, because
they just found out yesterday, the day before the game,
that he would be available, and then of course with
Belgium appealing, you never know what's going to happen, so

obviously has been confirmed that he is available for this game,
but with preparing these last five or six days since

their Bosnia game, knowing that he might have been out,
probably had been out until recently, possibly having Ricardo Pepi
or Hodgie Wright as your starting player. Now do you
make the switch to go back to your starter or
is it too recent? And how much does the preparation
process go into your decision making. If you're Mauricio Pochettino.

You know, it's almost like an injury right where you
know a player might be and he might be out
because of injuries.

He's classified as fit to play, You're going to put
your main guy in the lineup if he's available.

The different question is is does Pochettino do something from
a moral standpoint or however you want to frame it.
Does he not play him because of the noise around it.
But on the flip side, Belgium of course have been
preparing for a different player than Baligan, so they've been

Training facility has been with.

The idea that the US don't have that dynamic threatening behind.
Maybe they have a different selection because of that. Maybe
they play higher up the field, maybe they can squeeze
the US more so, their tactics are out the window
as well. So I think Baligan goes in because I
think the Popsinoscy has to play him at this point.

In some ways, you're being doing a disservice, I think.

To his team if he wasn't selecting because he is
their main guy. But for Belgium, they've been preparing for
a different player, a different system, maybe a different setup,

well just imagine, I mean, the building's gonna have energy anyway.
I think this is such a huge advantage for the US.
I'd even thought about that. J Hunters brought it up, Danny,
but I think you've got maybe there is a decision,
maybe there's no decision. But I'm also sitting on the
other side of find Belgium. I'm like, and this is
why why they were pissed, right, is because it was
last minute they're preparing for now they don't know what

There are great advantages that Danny. They have no idea
what to prepare for.

You know that there's definitely a play that and in
some ways that kind of recognizes the the situation is
being uncommon, right, and it's you know, there's no precedent
to it in some ways, so so Focio couldn't recognize
the strange situation trying to recognize the injustice that Belgium
feel with Baligant by not stopping him.

But you're right, you get a kind of a two
punch that.

You get a player that's prepared to play in Pepy
or in had you write and haw'd you write? By
all accounts, it's more than like to like, I think
he can get in behind, he can run the channels.
It doesn't affect in the US so much as maybe Pathy,
who plays a little deeper and doesn't have that over
the top threat.

in Belgium. So if the US pressed down the right

hand side as they have done with the likes of Death,
we're leaving gaps on that left hand side for a
player called Doku, who's one of the world's best wingers.

He's been indifferent in terms.

Speaker 14 (01:28:46):
Of his performances so far, but he's been distracted by
the birth of his child. He went back to Europe
for that, came back to the US to join the camp.
He got some pushback for media because.

Of that decision, but I think he's.

Now going to be ready to play this type of game,
and he played for Man City, so these big occasions
aren't gonna be daunting for him. But I think it
all comes down to how does that midfield trio, or
maybe the four players, if you add polistics into it
as well, how do they play. I think they can
overrun the Belgium midfield by few athleticism.

They've shown that they can play with a ball at
their seat as well. The world.

I think that the teams out there now recognize and
appreciate that not just a technical.

Awareness that the US national team have on the pocketina.

But the technical prowess they have. So I think you'll
see a fast, high tempo game.

You will not see Belgium sit in and defend like
the teams having it to the US. This will be
wide open and it'll be fascinating to see which team
can take control of those pockets of space because the
likes of de Bruyner, you know, if he gets space
in the middle of the field, he can pick apart
a pass. It's gonna be a fascinating matchup. I think

Belgium is the better team to play than Senegal that
are just incredibly athletic.

I think they were extremely unfortunate to lose, of.

Speaker 14 (01:30:02):
Course against Belgium, but I think this game matches up
very well for the US, and I think that their athleticism.

Speaker 13 (01:30:08):
And dynamic playing the check and third will win the day.

Yeah, Danny, I'm interested to see if you agree with this,
because to me, the biggest question is how Belgium's gonna play.
You saw exactly and you mentioned there that you expect
them to play on the front foot, which I think
has been the type of a team that has given
the US a little bit of fits. If you look
at the first game versus Paraguay, they tried to sit back,
playing a low block that was obviously unsuccessful. The first

(01:30:36):
half versus Australia, same thing, and then Australia switched in
the second half to play a four to three to
three and kind of go at the US a little bit,
and that's where the US got really uncomfortable. And then
obviously in the third game against Turkey, they had nothing
really to lose, they were kind of to take it
towards the US and that's a big reason why the
US ended up losing that game. And then kind of

(01:30:56):
all the way in the round of thirty two, Bosnia
ends up kind of sitting back a little bit and
plays right. The US is hands So I haven't seen
the full on attacking prowess from Belgium for the entirety
of the tournament. They can turn it on at times,
but I'm interested to see what you think in terms
of how they're gonna come out in this game, because
the blueprint is there that if you kind of put

(01:31:19):
the US under pressure in their own end, that's what
kind of gives them the most trouble.

Speaker 14 (01:31:25):
Agreed, and the course's muscle memory for Belgium, they won
five to two in the spring of this year. Right
dominant performance by them. Very different lineup in terms of
players and personnel, but they did expose the US and
some of their weaknesses. Docu had a field day in
that particular day. I just don't think this team has
played their best. Like you said, Belgium have not played
up to the level. This is a golden generation for them.

This is the last chance for the likes of Lukaku
and de Bruyna to play at this level.

I believe you know of what.

Is expected from a national team, but I think the
