Speaker 1 (00:00):
They just laid an absolute egg yesterday. I wrote down
a bunch of notes last night. I put them on
my computer and I said, I'm just I want to
throw them away because I'm just going to go off
the cuff here. I'm going to lean on you a
little bit too. We'll get to that in a second.
John Lene's going to join us at two o'clock today,
and then Joe Sheen at one twenty talking all things
baseball at the Mariners. I was asking Greg this a

(00:22):
minute ago. You were there last night. I was yesterday
afternoon at five o'clock Anders in the stadium, and he
said it was a little bit more subdued the crowd
was Was that Belgium kind of taking taking the US out?
Was it too many randos that really aren't diehard fans
just had the money to pay two thousand?

Speaker 2 (00:39):
And was it a combination.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Thereof How would you describe the atmosphere for Yeah, I
mean for me, it was my first World Cup game,
so I can't compare it to much.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, like Greg, but I will say when the US scored,
it was about as loud as I've.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Ever heard it.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, and I've been there. I was there for the
NFC Championship game for the Seahawks. I was there when
the Rashichi he took the kickoff return against the forty
nine ers in the divisional game, and it was just
as loud.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
I'm telling you, it was just as loud.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
But because of how the US started, even before Belgium
scored that you could tell that this team was just
not ready. And when it comes, I think, specifically with soccer,
you have to have something to cheer about, right, It's
it's not the audience's job to get the players ready
to play. They respond to the energy that the players

(01:26):
are giving them and then they keep keep it going.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
The players didn't show that whatsoever.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
You could tell in the first thirty seconds that they
weren't ready to play this game. And I told looked
right beside me to Jackson Felt who was sitting next
to me, and I was like, they don't look ready,
they look scared.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
They look like the moment's too big for them.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
That's the key.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
That was what that's that was the part that I
kind of just watching with a couple very casual young
guys that are casual fans, just US fans, right, and
we were all talking it's just it. That's what it
felt like. It felt like the moment was too big.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I was talking to Greg a little bit about this
too on and off the air. The entire Balligan situation
ends up being, I think, in a lot of ways.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
A detriment to the US in two different ways.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
And Nico Moreno brought this up yesterday with Greg, you
and Jackson and I brought this up and we did
our segment yesterday on the show. Would this be a
rallying cry for Belgium? Would it unite them? Because it
really was kind of like everyone not named the United
States thought that Belgium was done wrong by baligin being
eligible to play. And we saw the Belgium coaches comments

(02:40):
on Sunday about the April Fools and all that stuff.
He obviously used it to his advantage. The team was
more motivated, and then I just it looked to me
like the US was a team that felt And we've
seen this in sports all the time. You get complacent.

(03:03):
It's like, wow, we got our guy back. We should
be fine, Like we'll just be able to kick back. Relax,
Baligan's gonna save ease into this game. We're a we're
playing at home before the most raucous crowd in in
the in the United States, rivaled only by Mexico. And
and we'll be able to see what happens, right, And

(03:26):
so all those things made it look like just on
the surface on television, and you were there, you can
tell me on that it made it look like this
team just wasn't on the same level of emotion as
their opponents were. And that's a really dangerous thing in
any in any competition, but especially when you get to

(03:49):
the highest of high levels like that the World Cup.
The best players in the world motivated beyond belief. Every
pass was tentative, nothing with conviction. Guys that really are
over there. The two MLS players are the two worst
players on the field. I've never seen a center back
posterized like a guy getting dunked on. Yeah, but that's

(04:11):
what happened. That's an embarrassment. There's just no excuse for that.
And then your goalkeeper commits an unforgivable error on the
most simplest of plays. Your goalkeeper, who is the worst
goalkeeper in recent memory in US World Cup history, we've

(04:32):
had elite ones. That's the one thing when the team
wasn't as good we had elite.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Ones against Belgium, saves World Cup record.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I'll go back our own Casey Keller elite world class goalie,
Tim Howard, elite world class keeper, Brad friedel elite world
class keeper, and their backups oftentimes were better than this guy. Yes,
Marcus Hahneman was a third string guy. He's better than
any of these guys. I don't know why Matt Turner
wasn't playing. That's a that's a question. We want to

(05:01):
talk about how great the coach is and renewing his contract.
I thought his decision making was horrific at times. Is
roll Dane healthy because that midfield needed help yesterday and
maybe that deep into the tournament you're not going to
play him. Probably should have played him before if he
was healthy. I don't know. There's a lot of things.
Here's the here's this is this is what I want
to get to and I want your thoughts on this, Andrews.
And also four nine four or five to one, because

(05:24):
we're going to kind of put the World Cup to
bed from the US standpoint tonight, let me take one
quick side step. We're not putting the World Cup to
bed like what we just saw with Argentina and Egypt
was remarkable, and that's that's what that was remarkable.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, I mean, we'll get into it, I'm sure, but
Argentina started the game very similar to what the US did.
And I'm wearing my Argentina jersey those of you watching
on the YouTube, obviously it's my second team.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
My wife's from there. Da da da.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
But that makes me even more pissed about what happened
yesterday because Argentina went down to zero to Egypt. It
looked like they were just sleep walking through the game,
and they still were down to zero in the seventy
ninth minute and they clawed themselves back into it. I
saw zero fight from the US men's national team.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
And that's the thing, Like, yeah, it just to the
tournament goes on. I'm still gonna watch it. You're gonna
watch it, and I think a lot of people are
gonna watch it, because really, now you're kind of cutting
through the chase like you're getting the best of the
best is left.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Yes, every single game is really good.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
And which is cool.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
And if you've enjoyed the tournament so far, I'm guessing
you haven't just enjoyed because the US Games I'm assuming
that a lot of people have found themselves enjoying other
games as well. I know I have and it and
it's I'm excited for all these matches. But you're right
with the US. I think you needed to look no
further than their opponent. They were down two nil last

(06:47):
week in the round of thirty two and they came
back to win.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
So where was the fight from the United States?

Speaker 4 (06:55):
I don't know, man, where where was it?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
And I'm with a lot lawless and a lot of others,
this isn't a hey raw ra, we got the nation
fired up.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
For three weeks.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
This is a colossal disappointment yesterday and really just not
advancing further than the round of sixteen in an expanded tournament.
Mind you, this isn't the old days. It's an expanded
tournament and you couldn't get out of the round of sixteen.

(07:29):
I just and just seeing that team, multiple things can
be true. One of those things is this. They came
out and gave our country a rallying cry.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
For a few weeks.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
People that were not soccer fans became fans of that team,
if not the sport, but mostly that team.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I get that.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
They brought the country together, the country that's as divided
as it can be. They brought cities together, especially ours,
it's been as divided as can be. Everything was positive.
It's still about the results on the pitch, still about
the results on the field, and.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
The results were not good enough.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
They're no better than all these past teams outside of
O two, right, so like they're no better yet they
had better talent, at least on paper they did, and
they allegedly had a better coach. Maybe through the first
four games they did not yesterday he didn't have him ready.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
He didn't have him ready.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
I was very much on the I was pissed at
Poach right after the game. And I'm as big of
a Poach defender and fan as there is in the game.
Danny Jackson, former Sounder captain, by the way, during the
USL days he played at Leeds United in England, he
kind of talked me off the ledge on that one
because he mentioned, you know, it's one thing to have

(08:50):
a couple players that aren't ready and then you can
tactically adjust right as a coach, But when everyone looks
like they're just a deer in headlights, what is a
manager supposed to do. You shouldn't have to motivate these
guys when they're playing a Round of sixteen World Cup
match on home soil in that atmosphere. What is a
coach supposed to say to you if you're not motivated already?

Speaker 1 (09:12):
That's the thing, is like, I think that's the most
disappointing thing, got it? You know, And those guys are
somewhat insulated from it, so they're not necessarily walking you
walk down onto that field right right. What I would
just say is like, like if you I don't know
where they came.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
I didn't.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
I never saw the bus. Usually we see the buses
go down up Edgar Martinez Way. Never saw it yesterday,
So I don't know how they got there into the
into the battles of lumen. But it must have come
the other way. But I mean, if you were driving
down First Avenue South like NFL teams do, and drive
in there, you would have seen the thousands of fans
outside of all the restaurants and bars and parking and
running around, and like, God, I can't believe this is

(09:46):
gonna be unbelieve. This is so different than the other
place we're gonna play I'm already, I'm fired up, I'm
ready to go. It was just an absolute, absolute disaster.
And I think there's also the thing and I think
what really upset me, what really pissed me off as
someone who really enjoys the game and wants to see
the game grow in our country, not just at the

(10:08):
youth level.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
We'll get to that later.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
It's like all of a sudden it's a new thing
that soccer is expensive and youth sports are expensive like that.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Like I I.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Blame most of our fellow media people that have no
clue or don't have kids or whatever they're doing, they
didn't play sports when they grew up. I mean it's
been going Listen, We've had Select Soccer since I was
a kid in the seventies. Yeah, all right, Sale United
started Sales Select started back in the seventies.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Like, we've had a Select back then. We had one
like one.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Team, Emerald City was nineteen seventy nine, I believe is
when it was founded.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Yeah, I mean we've it's so like we've had this
has been going on for a long time.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
This isn't a new thing.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
And we also, by the way, survive other sports, you know,
with costing a lot of and I'm not condoning. I
think it's garbage how much we have to pay for
youth sports. But you know, baseball and not keeping the
US from being the best in the world. Baseball is
more expensive than soccer. Yeah okay, yeah, hockey is too,
and hockey's double probably what soccer is. Guess what, we

(11:05):
just want an Olympic gold medal? And are we not
the best baseball country in the world if we put
really put our best guys out there, like I'm sorry
Venezuel and everybody else, if we really put our best
teams out there, come on.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
If we're not the best, we're in the top two
or three.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yeah yeah, yeah, not that we're not that in soccer,
absolutely not so. But what And that's what disappoints me
because I think we had an opportunity here for the
game to really kind of take a step forward in
our country. The world couple come again in four years
not here, but it's not here. And the visuals of
this tournament gave us so much excitement momentum you wanted

(11:40):
to be a part of it, whether you were at
a game or outside the match, or on a waterfront
or hell, you could be sitting in North Dakota, but
you're probably in a bar watching the game with a
bunch of people, were having friends over It brought this
country together, and you excite, you were excited about it.
You lose two to one or three to two yesterday
and put up a hell of a fight. Yeah you well, okay,

(12:01):
you know what, on the surface, we haven't taken a
step forward. The result isn't any better than it has been.
But you know what, in the end, you got edged
out by a team that was just a little bit
better than you that day. But you put on you know,
the shots were not you know, eleven to two in
the first half. When it's all said and done, it's

(12:24):
an even game. Possessions equal, but shots are equal, saves
are equally you know, like you know what a close
game looks like. That was never a close game. When
the US did have some momentum in the second half
and was pushing forward at two to one, your goalkeeper
made an error that should that you just can't ever get.
You can't walk that back ever, and I mean, I

(12:45):
hate to just keep going after it, but that's just
you're just not good enough. And if that's your best
keeper in the United States of America. You got a
massive problem US soccer. You have a massive problem. I'll
take Andrew Thomas over him. Yeah, he competes, also plays
a ball with his feet, way better, way better. Did
you notice how reluctant the US was to play the
ball back to him.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Yeah, and you see every other team use their goalkeeper
as like that's a passing option.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
That's what I thought, Like, I think you and I
even mentioned I think we talked about this maybe off
the air early on. Yeah, like they are very reluctant
to play him the ball.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yes, they are.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Today's soccer isn't when I played. When I played, I
just pick it up. Yeah, they changed that rule. You've
got to be skilled.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
He's not.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
No so.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
But the disappointment for me was that you had an
opportunity as a country, as a national team, to do
something that just really elevates the game to the next level,
and you just absolutely came out and yes, everyone said
we played our worst game, Yes you did. You know
what your worst game should have been, Turkey? Yeah, Instead,

(13:50):
your worst game is on the biggest stage with the
entire country watching, and you just were a no show,
almost to a man, you are a no show.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
But I think you said it really well.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
If one or two guys, if Polistic's just going to
be an absolute zero, which he is.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
And then asked to be subbed off in the second half,
and we'll.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Get to him in the second half. If people missed it,
Carly Lloyd, the great US women's player went.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Off on him last night.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
But if it's one thing, if Polistics just got awful,
or maybe him and one other guy. But when your
entire team is a no show on that stage, you've
done more. Honestly, I think you did more harm than good.
I think I'm not sure time will tell. The problem

(14:39):
is the only two players that are playing in this country,
right are your god awful center back and you're horrible keeper, right, Yeah,
everyone else is playing over those are only two MLS
players that played. I mean Christian didn't play. So with
that said, did you do more harm than good? I
don't know, maybe, but what happened yesterday in Seattle was
unacceptable on every level, and I don't know if it's

(15:03):
ever gonna get corrected.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Anders.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
I really don't, because this was your opportunity. You're on
home soil, You've got the home field. You've got players
that have decided to play here, they've foregone another like
Ballian like others. I could play here, I can play,
I'm gonna play in the US all that, and you
come up with that.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
It was just a really just a bomber man.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
I'm just it was I kind of one of those nights,
like you know, like football season hasies. Everyone knows this,
Like at football season, like there're Saturday nights or Sunday
nights that you go to bed and you're just pissed
because the Seahawks lost or the Huskies lost, or the
Cougars or whoever your team is lost and you got
to wait for another week and you're just sitting on
it and you're as a die hard sports fan, you're pissed, right,

(15:43):
you guys all know that feeling.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
You're mad.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Yeah, well four years, we.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Have to wait four years, and I have no confidence
in four years it's going to be better. I just don't.
I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm a thousand percent wrong.
But what would give you hope that they're going to
be utter.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Well, I think the first four games that's a different
And look, I'm miss just as frustrated as you are
from the way it ends, and in these big tournaments,
it's the last game that everyone remembers, obviously, whatever that
looks like, and it sucks that in the biggest moment,
the entire team wilton under the pressure. There's a difference
between good players and big players. The US has good players,

(16:23):
they don't have big players, and you saw the difference
in that yesterday with Belgium. I actually think the US
a better team still, like if you look at Man
a man, they're a better team than Belgium. But because
Belgium has had guys in the big moments that have
come through and we're obviously ready to play. That's that
shows you the difference in the game and the mentality.
But I still think while this stings, will a year

(16:44):
from now, a couple months from now, we'll look back
on the full tournament. And Danny said it last night,
I think it's two steps forward, one step back, so
a net positive, but definitely a huge missed opportunity. I
still think the big thing for me is I wanted
US soccer to be taken seriously from the rest of
the world, and unfortunately they still can't.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
I think that's the other thing. You know, we joked
around yesterday and had some fun US America and the
whole Balligan thing. The reality is is that like you
should first of all, you should thrive in that situation.
If you're a top level athlete playing at the highest
of levels. You want to be the team that everyone
doesn't like. You want to be the team that people

(17:26):
are pissed off at. You want to be that team.
You want to embrace that villain role, especially when you're
playing wait for it, at home, and you didn't. There
wasn't a pass made with conviction ever.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Just compare and we'll talk a little bit more about
this later on the show. But compare the US's performance
yesterday to Belgium to Mexico's performance versus England. Yes, they
both lose the game in the same round, both at home,
so different. But Mexico's guys were gassed at the end
of the game. They looked like it could barely walk.
And because they liked everything on the field.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Well, no reason they didn't win.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
You know the reason they didn't win that is because
the goalkeeper for England, Pickford, was marvelous. Yes, like he was,
he was hockey term standing on his head.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
But even when you have bad days, you make mistakes,
you're it's it's not working out for you. Offensively, you,
Danny said this yesterday, you can at least run, yes you.
There was no urgency, no fight, no desperation. They didn't
win one one on the US one B one. They
didn't win one and not one. And it's again, it's
not just a few players here and there. I cannot

(18:29):
find a positive performance from yesterday, whether it was one
player or the entire team.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
That's awful.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
All right, four nine, four five one. That's the coming
downs checks and we'll come back. Carly Lloyd said something
that needed to be said, and I'll get into the
Fox broadcast too. I didn't need to I didn't need
to get European to death after the game.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Yeah, don't tell me that, even if it's true, Lovey Stuholden,
don't tell me that.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
What a run for the US. Yeah No, I don't
need to hear that right now.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
If they didn't get to this point, it would have
been the even more of a colossal faith. Yeah yeah,
all right, we'll hear from Carl Lloyd next.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and The Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest Snow Call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJR FM, Switzerland.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
Colombia coming up here at one o'clock. They all take
on our The winner takes on Argentina in the quarterfinals.
So US loses. We'll get to some baseball and some
of the things coming up later. We want to wrap
up this next couple segments. So Carli Lloyd, the Great
Carli Lloyd from the US women's national team.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Is on the panel. Not nearly enough for my good.
I want more of her.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
In my opinion, she's the best US women's player of
all time.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
And she might be the best analyst. She's the US
right fantastic.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
She's really good, really good, really really good, far better
than every person that's not from this country.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Decided to trash our country on Fox last night.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Finally they gave her a chance to speak, and she
said what a lot of us were thinking, allegedly, your
best player is anything but that.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
No.

Speaker 6 (20:04):
Look, you know it's a.

Speaker 7 (20:06):
Bit of a downer for us being out here now
after this loss, but I just I felt like they
lost the game before they even stepped out under the pitch,
and I'm not sure why, and I don't know the reasons,
but just from the beginning, just chasing tentative scare just
not confident on the ball, and I think big time players.

(20:26):
You wanted some of those big time players.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
To step up in big moments.

Speaker 7 (20:31):
And I gotta be honest, you know, it was a
bit disappointed with Christian Bulisik. I think whether he wants
to be the star of this team or not, we
didn't see enough of from him in this particular game,
and really the whole World Cup, little glimpses here and there.
But you know, look, aside from this loss, I think
on the brighter storyline, it's been.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
A fantastic World Cup.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
This team has united the country.

Speaker 7 (20:56):
They have you know, gotten American fans call in love
with them, and there is a bright feature. But this
is just a real disappointing loss to go out on here.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Yeah, I mean she's right in a sense, they did
they did unite the country. It's and they gave us
a lot of fun for the last three or four weeks, right,
But it goes out with an absolute dud, And you know,
your best players have to be your best players.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
And if Christian polistic is.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
I mean, we I know what she's saying, Like, you know,
I don't know if he wants to be this, he
has to be, you know. And if you don't want
to be just turned down the invitation to play for
the national team, give that spot to somebody else because you, you,
quite frankly, are maybe one of.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
He's the most talented player in US history. And it
was talented doesn't mean the best.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
And maybe the softest. Yeah, I hate that urnam in
sports because a lot of times we talked about this
and I always laugh people that player soft talking about
a hockey player or football player in a contact sport,
and I'm like, really like that's they aren't as maybe
hardened as some guys on the on the field or
ice or whatever. But soft is kind of a hard
a harsh term. He's soft.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
There's different ways to look at it.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
He's soft, He's he's just soft, mentally soft, mentally soft,
physically soft, doesn't compete, doesn't make a difference. And you're
telling me he's the and I'm asking you this in
all sincerity. You're telling me he's the most talented player
we've had, I think, so yeah, wow, well then I
have no confidence this team's, this program can move forward.
Like if that's the if that's the gold standard for talent,

(22:27):
you can be talented. Maybe a hard maybe unfair because
he's gonna go down as one of the best of
all time. But but damn man, what Messi did today. Yeah,
that's the difference. Like like he just he reached down
and said.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
He and he was playing poorly in this game. Lionel
Messi was, and you know, I hate to, you know,
compare everything to Argentina, but it's just one right after
the other. Right they they started the game just as
bad as the US did in this one when they
were down to zero to Egypt, a worse team than Belgium,
by the way, defending world champions, and they still they
showed fight and they clawed back. They were not taking

(23:03):
a loss as an answer, and you didn't see any
of that from the US. And the most disappointing thing
for me Ian is how big the gap was in
the US's level of play in the Round of sixteen
game versus every other game up until then. The US
the reason why everyone had quote unquote fallen in love

(23:25):
with this team. Why everyone thought that this team felt different,
it felt better than you know, we've ever really been,
to be honest, is because of how they played in
those first four games. They absolutely dominated Paraguay, a team
that beat Germany and took France to the brink. They
beat Australia, who could have easily made it to the
round of sixteen as well. They lost to Turkey using

(23:46):
all their subs, but still were able to claw back
in that game multiple times, right, and then to show
the fight the tactical awareness to after you get a
red card see off a game in a knockout stage
match again against Bosnia in the round of thirty two,
it felt like this team had something different, and in
their biggest moment, they wilted and they looked completely different,

(24:11):
like like they just forgot what they were all about
for the entirety of that match. So I just don't
know why there was such a big difference in their level.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
So let me throw this at you and and our
listeners as well. Four nine, four to five one Did
last night ruin it for you? As far as your
perception and how you feel about the US soccer team?
Did it ruin for Did one match ruin it for you?
Four nine, four to five one. I'll be honest right
now today, not even twenty four hours removed my answers.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Yes, it's hard to say. It's hard to say.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
No. My answer is yes, yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed it
over the last few weeks.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Right.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Did you feel like it was different before that game?

Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Yeah, I did. I thought I thought that the coaching
had made a difference. I've told I told you my
concerns though. I mean, I think I asked.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
You you're on a goalkeeper all along.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Also I was also on ream, was I not? I
asked you about him and Jacksonville, and you guys both said, well,
they're the two MLS players. That's so like that kind
of just come up with that yesterday, and you know,
I like, but I thought you could overcome that. Yeah,
I thought you could get there. And listen, there's you know,

(25:22):
there's there's a there's questions about you know, every player
on every team that's going to the quarterfinals. There's like,
oh what about this guy? There's gonna be a week link.
You're always gonna have weak links. But for me, yeah,
just I think the the it's not just the result.
I could live with the loss yesterday. It's how they
got there, und I totally agree, and that's what ruined
it for me. That's what that's what just soured me

(25:43):
on this experience. I agree, it's unacceptable effort.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
If you had lost two to one battle till the end,
uh just were one play short or something like that,
I would feel Honestly, I feel like I would feel
completely different. Yes, devastated, but still like in my mind,
I'm like looking back, like, hey, we have something to
build on for the future here because of how freaking
bad it was and how they just no one showed

(26:07):
up and it felt like no one was ready for
the big moment.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
That's why it hurts that much more.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
You know, Carli Lloyd, who's a two time FIFA Player
of the Year, not just US FIFA, like like one
of the best players in the history of the game,
and she said, I don't know why. I can't understand
why they came out flat basic, So that that just
tells it. That's on those guys. I think they I
think I just think they got complacent. I think they

(26:33):
I think they read the headlines. You know, hey we're
gonna you know, we're they they were, they had become
a really big deal in this country in a very
short amount of time.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
People didn't know their names, and they did.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
They drank the kool aid, and I think they just
became They lost their edge, is what they did. They
lost their edge because the lord, wow, if you did
that in high schools, so there's a damn good chance
you'd get pulled. And they put the backup in even
at that backup prize, they didn't do it in this game.

(27:05):
Even if the backup's a twelve year old freshman, I
don't care. That's just an awful agree. But they didn't
want to play the ball to him. Yes, that's on
the coach too, Like if you because you're in today's
soccer you're playing with eleven. Yes, you're not playing with ten. Right,
he used to be playing with ten. Now you play
with eleven and you're not playing with eleven with him.
But I just think get the bigger issue. Then there's

(27:26):
the whole thing yesterday. I just I'll get into this
real quick. Actually I'll do the next segment. I think
for the most part, Fox did a pretty good job.
I thought they did our country a massive disservice. Last night,
and I know you guys are doing the post game.
I should have switched over, but the hell, but I
think they did it. I think they did our country
a massive disservice yesterday. Well, I'll wrap up the hour
and then move on to baseball next.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest SnO called me Casino and Hotel on sports
radio and three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
All right, Uh, we spend a little bit of time
tomorrow on some bigger picture things, including our city. And
now that we put a wrap on the Seattle events here,
we'll do that tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
I just to put a ball on things. First of all.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Four on that is the to come a dotch text line,
a lot of good text coming. Did did last night
ruin your perception of how you felt about the US
men's soccer team?

Speaker 2 (28:28):
I one thing I just want to Our women's team
is elite, elite.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
Yeah, and the Women's World Cup is next year, right,
and there's talk about it. I think the next one's
twenty thirty one is here or is in the States,
I believe, or it's going to be worth check. But yeah,
there's talking about games being played here. If they're not
being played here, there's a problem. There's just a problem, period.
But they the Women's the Women's World Cup, they are
US Mexico because they haven't announced the venues yet. So yeah,

(28:58):
they need to be here. There needs to be games here, period,
and a story. I just don't even shoulting made a consideration.
I know there's a couple of trolls out of Portland
that are chirping today about Seattle. That's fine you first, yeah,
I'll off to show you the guys that cover the
timbers and the rain or the thorns and all that.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
What are they saying, Well, the only time.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
You see a full looming field is a Seahawk game
or the US men's national team. Like, well, first of all,
I think the Sounders average ten thousand more per game
than you guys do. Yeah, so you can just pounce
in and if you're gonna start bringing up NWSL numbers,
I have no time for you. But uh, Fox, I
think is done a decent job so far with the covers.
It's a massive undertaking. Whether it's our station as the

(29:43):
flagship for the Huskies of the Kraken or Fox the
flagship for soccer in this country. Remember, they're taking a
world feed, but their broadcasts are here. They're not for
the rest of the world. They're not for Canada or
Belgium or they all have their own people doing during shows.
As mad as I was last night at the result,
the last thing I needed. I did not need to

(30:04):
have basically three non Americans and Alexi Lawless for the
first twenty minutes of the postgame show reacting to it.
That's the last thing I needed. Where's Rob Stone, Where's
Landon Donovan, Where's Carly Lloyd? Where's Clint Dempsey? And while

(30:26):
we waited for everyone to trash the US, which that's fine,
I want I want to trash the US.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
I don't want you, as a foreigner, to trash the US.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Hello.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
That's why, that's how it works. I can trash people
in my house. You can't. Just a massive disservice. I
don't need to hear whatever her name is, Rebecca Lowe,
what's her name? I don't need to hear her. Where's
Rob Stone? Worse, I wanted to hear Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan,
Carl Lloyd, Alexi Lawless period of story, US Legends Americans USA.

(31:04):
Can you imagine having a Husky postgame show? And and
all right, you know, here we go. H Kenny Wheaton
is on here with uh, with Dennis Dixon. Dennis, what
do you think of the Husky's performance or worst yet?
How him on a pregame show? Let's hey, let's check in, right, Hey, hey,

(31:25):
Dennis Dixon, Demand Williams is suspended, but the NCAA overturned it.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
What do you think of that?

Speaker 8 (31:29):
Well?

Speaker 1 (31:29):
I think it's I think it's just egregious. And okay,
that's the Husky Football Network. You would never do that. Yeah,
you trashing your own team on your broadcast is weird,
very weird.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
Yeah, let's bringing John Lunn for the Seahawks pre game.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Exactly, John, what do you think?

Speaker 9 (31:46):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (31:47):
You know, Devin Witherspoon was suspended, but President Trump gave
a call. So John, what do you think should they?

Speaker 9 (31:53):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (31:53):
I think it's just awful decision.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Yeah, okay, that's the Husky that's the Seahawks pregame show
with John Lund longtime San Francisco host.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
By the way, Actually, you know what, he would actually
like it because he's a closet Seahawks fan.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
I'm still he actually he actually would say nice things.
He'd say a lot nicer things. The only good thing
about the post game. On a much lighter note, oh
my god, I felt bad. They have Levigne and Mayofski
doing the local stuff. Oh yeah, Aaron and Aaron. First
of all, that's hard because someone tossed back all right, Aaron,
back to you and they both stood there and they

(32:26):
which one which one. Couldn't hear anything. They didn't have
headsets on. They just had a little IFB in there.
That's impossible. You can't hear anything. My man, Ethan's out there.
Mcgreel's like he's They told him to interview random guy.
He enters the he found the drunkest person that went
to the game and interviews him. I was entertained by it.

(32:48):
It was the highlight of the night.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Interview. Let's go to Ethan. Who you got?

Speaker 1 (32:53):
I got a drunk guye with me? Okay, let's go
to you right now. Let's go to Ethan. You're on Hey,
I'm here with drunk guy. What do you think of
the game? And oh, Jack Sparrow standing behind you, Well,
where'd that guy come from? That was the only entertaining
part of the broadcast was drunk guy getting interviewed and
then tossing back to back to you erin well which erin?

(33:14):
I'm more both gonna stand here. I was like god,
the train wreck though of the Europeans trash in our
country afterwards was the worst, and I just I didn't
get what they were doing. We deserve better, as a guy,
let our guys trash our guys, because honestly, it should
have been a game of that magnitude that should have
been all hands on deck, all us and especially with

(33:36):
what happened, I want to hear what Landon had to say.
I want to hear Clint Dempsey had to say. Carl
Lloyd Alexi Lawless gets drowned out by dipstick.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
From France or wherever he's from, Sierry Henri.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
I'm done with him, like he gets drowned out by him,
which is probably pretty hard to do, but he does.
Just a bad night, you know what, No more thinking
about matter, Just a bad night all the way around.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
For me, it just it ruined.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
The US World Up experience, and the story didn't Now
it did not ruin the World Cup experience for me. Like,
I'm I'll be totally honest with you. I'm distracted here.
I don't even have juice on this game. I have
no juice on this game. Normally I would Columbia, but
I'm watching Oh. I want Columbia to win bad.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
They have fun fans, fun teams.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Well in Switzerland decided they wanted to pile on.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
I forgot about that.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
For the first time in the history of Man's non neutral.
They decide that they're gonna take a side. Okay, you
take Belgium side. Go Columbia. Hopefully the cartels got them
jacked up. We got some Hopefully the blow was full
in a BC place beforehand.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
We got the white powder going. Cut that stuff up.
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
And beat the hell out of that team with the
stupid white cross and pound sand.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Done with you, guys. I'm done with Henry. It's not okay.
I could deal with him.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
He just he's got kind of the Charles bar You
have a blind like lot. Alexei Wallas tries to be
that guy sort of with outspoken stuff.

Speaker 4 (35:08):
Just looks at him like, what are we doing here?

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Here's the Barkley doesn't care. He just doesn't care. He
doesn't know any players, whether it's the NCAA term of
the m. He doesn't know any. He knows like five guys.
He doesn't care. That's kind of that. I just think
it's it's like, okay, what'd you say? I don't care
entertaining all right, we're doing with soccer for now, four nine,
four to five one on the Tacma Dodge text line.

(35:30):
We'll transition over to a little baseball. Mariners start a
series against the Marlins tonight. They go, uh Miami for
a couple and then they had to beautiful Tampa at
Bay take on the Rays. I'm checking the standings real quick.
You'll be pleased to know both team's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
What do you got?

Speaker 4 (35:47):
FIFA camera work Undefeated.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
So America USA.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
No from the Star Rentals Sports to Jordan ninety three
point three k j R.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
F MS Headlines.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
Headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed Corps Light
Choose Chill. US men's national team, losing four one to
Belgium last night of the Round of sixteen World Cup
is over for the US. Earlier today, Argentina completed an
incredible comeback down to nil and the seventy ninth minute
score word Ramonta mntada, Raymon tada, Raymon tada. That means
you're down by two and you win in regulation. Yep,

(36:23):
raymon tada. Three goals crazy. They're on the quarter finals.
I'll take on the Winter Columbia Switcher one that starts
just a moment ago underway in Vancouver. BC plays Winter
plays of course Argent. As I just mentioned, MS began
the series against Marlins DA Miami. Bran Wo won the
mount against Max Meyer, who is an All Star. Storm
went in La over the sparks last night.

Speaker 10 (36:44):
Here we go.

Speaker 5 (36:45):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest snow called Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM on the fifth.

to that. Let me shout out to you guys real quick.
I listened yesterday at four point thirty to the pregame
show that you and Jackson and Danny Jackson did pre
Fox broadcast of the game, and then you guys obviously

(37:40):
did stuff halftime in postgame. I just just a tip
of the cap to both you Jackson and Danny Jackson
that was in it.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
The amount of preparation was evident. The passion you guys
have for the sport but also just for the broadcast
came through on the radio and flying colors. We're in
a tough world sometimes in the world of radio these days.
All our good friends. Shout out to our friends north
of the border. Sports Net six point fifty went bye

(38:11):
bye today, the last remitting sports radio station in Vancouver, BC.
A lot of us here on the station. Greg myself,
I think Softy too did stuff for guys like Halfred
and Bruff and others up there. Thomas Trantz tough world,
that we live in these days. Good radio sometimes it's
hard to find. You guys did great radio. You think
any good radio. Yesterday you did great radio, and you've
done all the tournament. It continues, by the way through
the rest of the World Cup. But last night was

(38:33):
special because you guys were at Jimmy's on First doing
a pregame show for the US team on American Radio USA.
God bless, and you're doing that for about one hundred
plus stations across the country. It sounded awesome. Jimmy's in
the background was cool.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
As Jackson and you both mentioned, just steps outside Seattle
Stadium aka Loominfield. I just thought you guys covered every
base needed from lineups like Belgium did't even put the
best lineup on the field. I know, I said it's
gonna be doing with soccer, But what's going on there?

Speaker 3 (39:04):
I think they thought they went younger and more athletic,
and it showed they you know, were faster in the
game and they're kind of older generational players that they have.
They could bring off the bench and cut off the game,
which is what happened.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Or just put a fourth goal in just for fun. Yeah,
just for fun off brand soccer Lebron. When Lebron comes in,
I'm watching with a couple of airlines. I know I
was allowed to come like football players. And he comes
in and they're like, what the hell Lebron James is
playing soccer? This guy whatever his name is, Yeah, he's

(39:38):
a he's a beast man.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Holy cow. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Cat comes in there and' like, yeah, I'm gonna score
for By the way, okay again, I know you were done.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
I'm not. Can't they just fix the timing?

Speaker 4 (39:51):
Oh god?

Speaker 2 (39:52):
Now it didn't matter because the US was god awful.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
No, yeah, there has never been less stoppage time in
a World Cup game this tournament. Then the four minutes
we got, which was more than enough for goal number
four to be scored, but really a four minute, like
four minutes stoppage time.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
I mean, let me ask you this. If there was
twenty minutes, do you think the US scores.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Well, not after they scored the four, if they went
But it's like, I think, honestly, they're so mentally that
US team was so obviously so this is this is
just an assessment and an assumption, but I think it's
backed up by what we saw. They're so mentally fragile, fragile, Yeah,
that I do believe. I think there was something to
looking up. I'm I mean there's been a minimum five.

Speaker 3 (40:36):
Well, yeah, because it's automatically three for the water breaks, right,
don't stop the clock.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
And they scored a goal. Yeah, and it's four. Yeah
you look, you look over a goal four?

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (40:47):
What I think at that point that like we're done.
I mean, we're probably done anyway, but we're really done now.
And then they score a moment like a minute later
or so whatever probably thought that, right, have a kickoff
when they probably probably thought that from the start. After
we'll we went a great job by you and John,
thank you, and we showed up. It was our World Cup.
No broadcast tonight, right, No, that's her last game's being
played right now next on Thursday, Thursday.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Okay, France Morocco. Good game, France Morocco. Big game. And
then you guys will continue doing all that for the country.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
And yeah, I think we I think we have all
four quarter finals, both semifinals in the finals, so.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
Okay on ninety three, I think yeah, yeah, I know,
because I got a day off or two, which.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
I look at you thrilled about I don't get one,
but no, you don't.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
You go back to work. Listen, I'd say you get
time off. I say, maybe you get some some like
Softy gets time off during hockey season. Yeah, but in
that football season, Thursday, that football season, A lot of seasons. Yeah,
he gets all those times off. I'd say hockey season,
but a lot of times you're working hockey season.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
So I get a week off after the World Cup.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
So I'm excited, very good, Okay, all right, Mariners. Mariners
have a great tough road trip coming up. No, Julio
more than likely. I heard Gary hill on earlier and
that at all with Greg Bell didn't make the trip.
He may end up being showing up in Miami. They
may try to get him on the field against Tampa.

(42:08):
I think you know, Greg brought up a really good
point with Julio. It's like, well, concussion head whatever, why
wouldn't you just send him out?

Speaker 2 (42:15):
And this is not.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
Me point this out. If just in case Justin Hollander
is listening, this is not an indictment on the training staff.
He's kind of surprised, wouldn't you if he plays against Tampa?
Like when you just let's just get this guy ready
to go like the second half. But Gary had a
great point, and I think it is worth mentioning the
standings are so bunched up and we all know what

(42:39):
starts to look like in August and September, right, how
like every game doesn't matter, And I don't want to
be the hypocrite because you and I talk about this
all the time. Anders those games in April and may
count the same as the games in July, August and
September do. So you do want your best players out there,
and you'd want Julio out there, but we'll see him,
and Gary didn't seem to be too optimistic about seeing
him before they all our break And that's fine because

(43:01):
dom Canzone just keeps hitting the ball and other guys.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
So you're you're okay, and that playing well in his
instead one of one of the best moves ever.

Speaker 1 (43:12):
Yeah, I think so too, Like they picked Robless up
off of Waivers and and let me just double check here,
Washington Nationals. Yeah really, like, how do you just cast
that dude to side? He has has Victor Robles not
been a contributor every every day since he's been here,
the only time he doesn't contributes when he's hurt. Yeah,

(43:33):
Now he does get hurt a lot, he does, but
not his fault. Like I mean, I go back, was
it last year the long recrashing the wall in San
Francisco and people kind of give him a hard time
about it.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
I'm like, no, he'sying.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
We just spent an hour talking about lack of compete
from the US men's national team.

Speaker 3 (43:47):
He was playing yesterday, he would be flying around the
victor compete.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
Yes, he beats his ass off, but yeah, I mean
he's been great and all. And then I mean, listen
to the pitching staff over the last week six days.
That's the pitching staff that I'm used to seeing has
been lights out right, just absolutely lights out. So they
got that big they got the big series coming up.
We'll talk to Joe about that. Miami's good and they're
kind of surging lately as well. So it's a tough

(44:12):
one to get going on for there. For the Marrior's
hitting it. And I didn't get a chance to talk
to you about this yesterday All Stars only one and
it was Randy You okay with that?

Speaker 3 (44:23):
I mean, if I'm talking like justice, like who deserves
to go? Randy definitely does. I don't know if anyone
else does. On offense at least. Yeah, we talked about
them all WAP. I don't think so. Yeah, I don't
have it an obvious like, oh, he deserves to be there.
You could give a shout for maybe maybe Brian Woob.
He's had a couple of bat outings.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
I don't think you can because of what he's done
on the road. Yeah, I think Bryce Miller, but he
hasn't pitched him, hasn't pitched him yet, So I mean
Bryce Miller. Bryce Miller has pitched like an All Star.
He hasn't pitched enough. Yeah. It also makes me even
easier not to watch the game because I don't care
at all in terms of that game.

Speaker 4 (44:58):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
But I think the odd thing is this. You have
a team that's leading this division. Yeah, is arguably the
most talented team, and it's not just this division, but
probably like the second or third most talented team in
base in the American League. And they got one All Star.
Which here's what I wanted to bring this up. This
is a silver lining. Does that not tell you that
this team still has a lot left?

Speaker 2 (45:19):
Oh? Yeah, they a lot left.

Speaker 1 (45:21):
There's a very much a they have sleep walked through
the entire first half of the season. I know we're
passing that, which is its own issue in its own right, right,
but you can also expect there to be better things
to come, not just it would totally expect there to
be better things to come. And I think that's the key.
And that's because when we talked about on Malliwop yesterday
and we got just kind of Molliwop got washed aside
a little bit by all the soccer conversation, rightfully, So

(45:45):
one of the things that we kind of just glossed
over was just that, like this team, if you would
have said back in March or spring training, hey, we're
going to get to the All Star break and the
Mariners are going to have one all starts Randio rose Arena,
I'd be like, oh, and then they say what would
what what do you think the standings look like right now?

(46:05):
I'm I would have guessed at that point, probably maybe
we're the Maybe we're the A's are forty nine two
three four games out as fields are forty five and
forty eight, maybe like three four games under five hundred.

Speaker 4 (46:18):
I'd say five hundred. Round was what you would expect, and.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
They're three games over. Yeah, I mean Col's not Col's
not an All star. Juio's not an All Star. And
none of your starting six pitchers in your rotation are
all stars. And I'm like, yeah, well they're not even
close to They're probably not even sniffing first place right now.
And here they are game in a half up on Texas.
So all right, we'll get to all that. Well, get
little baseball coming up with Joshian. He'll join us next

(46:42):
four nine four to five one. That is to come
a dout text line four nine four five one, and
our friend John Lone joins. Just coming up at two pm,
nine three point three KFM.

Speaker 5 (46:53):

Joshian dot com. Hello, sir, how are you?

Speaker 2 (47:39):
I'm good?

Speaker 1 (47:39):
So big bigger's news for Joe she And what was
bigger for you this week? The the wedding of the
century in your town in New York City or men's
national soccer team games.

Speaker 11 (47:50):
You know, it's funny because I would say, of both
of those entities, Taylor Swift and US men's national soccer team,
I pretty much feel exactly the same about both of them.
Where it's like I have no animals me but I
don't really care one way or the other. I like
to shake it off as much as the next guy.
And well, you know, I respect really good athletes, but
soccer doesn't do a tounch for me. I've mostly been

(48:10):
picking on the World Cup over the last couple of weeks.
But yeah, it's just I would say neither. I would
say Chris.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
Daughter up winning the Uh oh, there you go.

Speaker 11 (48:17):
That was probably got more of my attention.

Speaker 1 (48:19):
You know what, I kind of well, I love I
love a little golf too, so I've got the Scottish
Open this week as well, so our guy Joe she
and joining us. Were you invited to the wedding? By
the way, were you part of the Madison Square Garden continue?

Speaker 11 (48:30):
I turned it down to watch Chris.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
Good call. That's a good call. Probably in your partner,
it's a really good call. That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
Hey, I want to ask you about something. We haven't
brought this up ands. I don't think we've brought this
up in the last couple of days. The uh it's
one of those weird news items that kind of flies
under the radar. But a bunch of Major League umpires
are going to be done at the end of the season.

Speaker 2 (48:53):
Do you think that that is?

Speaker 1 (48:55):
Cebe Buckner obviously is in the crosshairs of a lot
of you know, fans over the years, but as well,
who had I think a really bad weekend last weekend
right behind home plate? Do you think that is a
direct result of the abs and we're starting to really
see guys that are good and aren't good.

Speaker 11 (49:12):
I don't think it's that. When I looked at the names,
and I can't say I look everybody up, but the
names all work familiar to me, and what I would
say is that means that they've been around a while.
This seems more like an effort to clear out older
umpires than necessarily doing it by quality of umpiring member.
We only have ratings for ball strike calling, and I
saw a lot of people. Oh, they were all fifty
three and below. Right, But there's more to umpiring than

(49:34):
calling balls and strikes. There you know, you only calling
balls and strikes once every four games. There are a
lot of other things that go into being an umpire.
I looked at this list and said, this is an
effort to buy out older umpires to get younger, just
something I'd wanted MLB to do for a long time.
I proposed, god a thousand years ago, that MLB umpires
be paid twe million dollars a year, but that if
the job be ten years max, so that you wouldn't

(49:56):
develop these guys who thought they were bigger than the game.
I have grudges lasting for twenty twenty five years. Now.
This isn't that, but it is does seem need an
effort to say, look, we're gonna get a younger group
of guys in here, and if that makes ABS easier,
if that makes eventually moving to full ABS easier, I
think that's a positive as well.

Speaker 2 (50:16):
I mean the guy's retiring c B. Buckner.

Speaker 1 (50:18):
I mentioned los Ds Brian o'nara, Lance Barksdale, Marvin Hudson,
and Tony Randazzo.

Speaker 2 (50:24):
Andy Fletcher's the other one.

Speaker 1 (50:26):
When I saw the list, I knew, I knew Diaz,
and I knew Cebe Buckner. I didn't know the other names. Now,
I am very much more of a casual fan than
say you are who does it for a living. But
I started thinking about it feels like back this is
a god, I'm gonna date myself, Joe'm gonna be that
guy back in the day. Back in the day, didn't
we know more of their names. But I think it's
what you just said is because it felt like you

(50:48):
knew the guy that was going to have a grudge
or the guy that was going to be confrontational. Umpires
have never had their names in the back of their jerseys.
Hockey referees did for a while. Basketball referees we knew
the football repe we never That's funny thing with the NFL.
You know, the referee, you don't know anybody else. You
don't have the line judge, the umpire, any of that stuff.
But it feels like what you just said is very accurate,

(51:10):
more so in the past with baseball, where we get
to know these guys because it's like, Okay, that guy's
going to go out with Earl Weaver, or that guy's
going to go out with, you know, with Sparky Anderson
or whatever. And I'm really dating myself now, I get that,
But you know what I'm saying, Like, it does feel
like there was a lot more of that grudges that
were held for years.

Speaker 11 (51:26):
There were fewer of them too. I mean, there are
best and we have more players now, we had fewer
umpires back in the eighties and seventies. Also, to umpires
had a moment, and I guess you trace it to
the Luciano books. Ron Luciano was an umpire in the
late seventies. Ear ladies. Certainly you mentioned Weaver, so I
know you.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
Know who he is.

Speaker 11 (51:42):
And he wrote a book that Empire Strikes Back, and
they did a couple of sequels to it, and he
became a bit of a car I want to say
he showed up in a maybe it was him or
somebody else showed up in a beer commercial and Miller
lighte commercial. You know Joe West used to get.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
At pub, Yes I do, Yeah, I remember the beer commercially.
Yeah it was.

Speaker 11 (51:57):
They had a moment, I think, is how I would
describe it. And yeah, you go back to what was
it ninety nine when there was a lead a labor
dispute and they all quit, and then they'll be basically
said okay and moved on to another group of umpires.
I think there was almost a toss shift there to
where Okay, maybe these guys aren't that special, so we
don't need to pump them up. There's no West or
Luciano or even you know, maybe it a Doug Doug Geting,

(52:20):
So who's a Doug Harvey in today's game. There's just
no personality, and personally, I think it's a lot better.
A lot of people get mad at me because I
tend to dunk on umpires a lot, but I think
the umpire should be seen and not heard. Every time
I see an umpire yell at a player, I think
that guy's doing it wrong. That's what the money is for.
They want to yell at you, yell you, you take it,
and you move on to the next call. You don't

(52:41):
see it a whole lot, but you will say you
see umpires like a player will mount something, walk them
back to the dugout, and the umpire will like chase
after him. And that's a level of behavior I really
don't like to see an umpire. So if we get
a less recognizable group of umpires, I'm perfectly fine saying
that's good.

Speaker 2 (52:58):
For the game. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:59):
I mean, we all remember Jim Joyce because of the
unfortunate situation right that happened with him. The guy that
I was kind of I thought might be on there,
Bill Miller, has been an umpire since ninety seven in
the American League. And the only reason I know him
this is how old this guy is. I did a
story on him his first year umpiring in the Northwest
League up in Everett, when I was working at a

(53:20):
TV station at Como TV in Seattle, and that would
have been in like nineteen eighty nine.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Oh, I'm sorry, nineteen ninety.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
I only know because it got an Emmy nomination, which
we lost, one of my miny Emmy losses. But but
Bill Miller like he's been a ount, he's sixty years old,
like I'm Bill Miller.

Speaker 11 (53:38):
Yeah, sorry, I was gonna say Bill Miller called nine strikes
while he was telling that story.

Speaker 2 (53:44):
He is that way right, like.

Speaker 11 (53:46):
He and Doug Eddings call everything a strike.

Speaker 1 (53:48):
He wants he's got dinner reservations. Man, he's got stuff
to do. He's got to get out there. Well, he
got Jim Joyce and all that. So yeah, I just
wondered that if there's any correlation with the abs, you know,
because now it's a good point.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
I thought about this.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
You can probably be god almost like a like a
baseball player in a sense.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
There's baseball players we know this.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
Hell, we had a shortstop here forever that couldn't hit
anyone elsewhere in ol Marvis Kel right, great fielder couldn't
hit a lick. Now it became a better hitter as
the years went on. You could probably have a guy
that's great in the field calling you know, outs on
the bases right, whether it's a force out or a tag,
but maybe struggles behind home plate. That's a pretty hard job,
like you're doing something different every single night.

Speaker 11 (54:28):
By the home play up fires, go to third base,
after they call the plate because that's the easiest thing
to do on a ball field. They are on a
whole lot of plays at third base, it's mostly fair
foul calls, and then they go to first, second in hall.
That's the rotation usually. I will say that, you know,
it's also about managing the gaming. Again, Wed to narrow
this down to how well you call balls strikes. But
there is something to the idea of magic game. It's

(54:50):
not as hard as it used to be in the
you know six, when guys would go after each other
with baseball bats on the field, or fans would throw
glass bottles at the umpire. It's not like that anymore.
But yeah, this is something to the idea of keeping
the game moving, controlling the game rules. Things will come
up all the time. I mean, you know, there are
things that are going to go. This is why I
would never advocate for eliminating umpires in fact of anything.

(55:12):
What I want to do is add umpires. I think
umpiring crews should be five men large, should be four
guys on the field and one guy in the booth.
And instead of going to New York, we have a
fifth umpire who buzzes down and we eliminate challenges, and
there's a fifth umpire in the booth with the job
of saying, hey, wait a minute, guys, we got to
look at this again. That's still the system I want.

(55:33):
I want more umpires, not fewer of them. And guys
could rote or you can either rotate through that or
you could turn that into a sinecure for veterant umpires.
I gets to forty five years old, Okay, now you
will have five years of the replay.

Speaker 2 (55:44):
Empire, would you? Okay? I like that.

Speaker 1 (55:47):
Now I'm curious as far as the replay system. It's
not the ABS system that the battery or the catcher uses,
but you would say, instead of instead of looking down
on a close play at the at first base or
a tag at second, instead of looking in the the
cutaway that comes from the camera crew. Okay, there's there's
Dan Wilson. Is he's looking back. He either says no,
waves his hand no where he puts his hand on

(56:08):
his ears and say replace. So instead of doing that,
you take it out of the manager manager's hands and
just put it upstairs completely.

Speaker 11 (56:14):
I don't think the players and managers should offic shape
the game. And that's why I'm against the challenge system.
That's why I've always been against the challenge the replay system.
I think the umpires or your you know your replay
system should officiate the game because I want to take
tactics out of the calling the game. In other words,
top of the first two outs, a guy is obviously
safe at first, but you don't want to burn your

(56:35):
challenge on it because challenges have a value and you
will well, I might need that in the seventh inning
or later. I want that completely out of the game.
Let's get the call right and not make it about leverage.
You know the play that everybody hates, the runner steel
second pops off the bed a little bit and he
ends up getting called out on replay because the umpire
didn't see it, but the replay does see it. Now
I don't have that big a problem with that because

(56:58):
you know slide better. Yeah, on a basis binary being
on a basis binary, either you're an auditor or you're not.
But the only reason that play gets looked at is
because of the challenge system. An umpire in the booth
whose responsibility is to the game as opposed to trying
to win the game, is just going to let that go,
it's going to say, you know what, that's not something

(57:18):
we should be revealing. I think that's that play that
everybody hates. Isn't a function of replay, It's a function
of the challenge system, because in a challenge system, you
don't really care about the call being right. You care
about the call being good for your team's.

Speaker 1 (57:35):
I think soccer and FIFA could learn from that too.
I want to instead of using var every you know,
for stuff they're not supposed to use it for. Along
the way, let's talk about when a perfect game should
be completed or a perfect game should be aborted.

Speaker 2 (57:47):
Joe A. Should we talk about what happened last week
with the Marlins?

Speaker 11 (57:51):
Yeah, I think I'm on the wrong side of this
for a lot of people. I was perfectly fine with
the decision. Obviously you want to see a perfect game.
We're all baseball fans. But you know CLAYT. McCullough's responsibility,
the man Meyers manager isn't too Joe Shean or you
know baseball fans who, quite frankly, a lot of them
couldn't have told you who Uri Perez played for at
two o'clock in the afternoon. So a lot of people,
a lot of casuals and non baseball people jumping in

(58:13):
on this, but when you actually dig in on the specifics,
Euri Perez has never thrown more than one hundred and
two pitches at a start, So the fact that he
was at ninety two through seven innings isn't really great
information because he's going to need at thirteen innings, thirteen
pitches an inning. He's gonna need the other twenty six pitches,
which takes him up to one eighteen and that's if
everything goes well, you know, And I think taking him
out in the seventh is important because let's say you

(58:34):
send him out there for the eighth and there's a
bunch of foul balls and he needs sixteen pitches to
get through the ending. Now you're sending him out for
the ninth and one hundred and eight pitches in the
highest stress situation probably he's ever pitched him to try
to throw for a perfect game. That's why I think
the seventh inning was the right call. Perez lost a
little velocity in the seventh. He say his third start
coming off a leg injury. He had Tommy John surgery

(58:56):
two years ago, and again he's literally never thrown a
pitch in the eighth inning in his life, so everything
pointed to pulling him at you know, ninety two pitches
after seven innings. And I understand the frustration there, but
you know, this isn't a typical Marlins team either. They're
trying to get into the playoffs. They actually leave the
al card race at this point. They need fifteen more

(59:18):
starts out of yur Perez they need And even if
you know, let's say that the marginal well bake a
point here. The most risk any athlete is at is
when he's expending himself when he's tired. And if Perez
goes these extra two innings, he's sewing high stress innings
when he's tired. So the pitch count notwithstanding, it's just
that's when you're adding risk. How much risk would you

(59:40):
accept for Let's say, if I tell you if we
can quantify this, we're guessing. I know I'm making numbers
up here. Is it one percent? Is it two percent?
Keep in mind that his chance of actually getting the
perfect game was something along the lines of twenty five percent.
So how much injury risk is worth it? How much
bad performance in the future is worth it? To have

(01:00:02):
this guy complete the possibly can play a perfect game. Member,
it's not guaranteed he's going to get a perfect game,
So it's an attempt at it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
I think that you know, we're even anders. Who was
it last week? Was it Gilbert that had a chance that.

Speaker 11 (01:00:15):
Came out, came out with a one hit right Miller?

Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
Yeah, but he had a chance at a complete game?

Speaker 8 (01:00:20):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
I think which Marriers haven't had a complete game since
twenty twenty three? And I remember watching this and they
gave him a chance in the eighth inning. Was Miller
wasn't a Miller?

Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Yeah? It was Miller's Millier.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Yeah, And you know they kind of gave him a
chance to get to the to the I did get
a complete game. And Joe, again, I'm referring to old
umpires in Earl Weaver a moment ago like that used
to just be commonplace. Now it's like, man, I got
a complete game. That is a massive, massive deal. The
game has changed, right, So, like those types of opportunities

(01:00:52):
don't exist that often. But as you mentioned, and I
think this is what the Mariners are thinking right now
with a lot of things, is one or two games
can make all the difference in the word, and you're
almost always thinking macro as opposed to micro.

Speaker 11 (01:01:04):
Right. And a lot of it is we don't develop
pitchers to throw complete games. I did this thing maybe
last winter where I looked at the Baseball Prospective's top
one hundred prospect rankings, and most of these pictures didn't
even throw one hundred and thirty X in the year.
But you can't develop pitchers to throw two hundred INNX.
You can't develop pitchers to throw into the eighth and

(01:01:26):
the ninth if they're literally never doing in the minor leagues.
We're not developing pictures to throw complete We're barely developed
it to sevenaries at this point. I don't I think
there's been this one outing of one hundred and twenty
pitches this year, and I believe there were none last year,
and that used to be like the number we looked at.
Go okay, you know, one twenty. That's about where you're
in trouble. No nobody even gets ver anymore. So a

(01:01:47):
lot of this isn't I think some of the gruff
of your fans will put it on the players. It's
not on the players, it's on the organizations who are
just not even remotely developing pictures to go. Like I said, Eerie,
Perez has never pitched in the eighth inning of his life,
and I Noah Schultz was like a top twenty five prospect.
He's a White Sox left hander, and he didn't pitch
in the fifth inning. A couple of years ago, he

(01:02:09):
did not go past four innings. I want to say
it was twenty twenty four. It's just we're not. It's
a development issue and part of it, I mean, this
is a lot for your guys. At one thirty five,
you're coming up on a brave but you know, it
goes into the sense of teams know they have thirteen
pitchers on a roster, and by the way, they can
sun those last two spots, so they know they can

(01:02:30):
have they don't have to let guys pitch tired because
they have plenty of pitchers around. This is why my
my preference for this all along has been twofold one.
You cap pittures at eleven on a game day roster,
and you reduce the amount of times teams can send
guys up and down. Maybe you get three moves a
week or something, or you know, ten moves a month
or something along the line.

Speaker 8 (01:02:50):
Lunch.

Speaker 11 (01:02:51):
But you've got to force teams to start valuing endurance
and volume or they're never going to do it. So
that's why Bryce Miller it's taken out of this game
because Bryce Miller is literally in territory he's never been
in before. You mentioned the marriage not having a complete
game in four years, that's because they're not training pitchers

(01:03:11):
to go the dinnst Do I need it to be
nineteen eighty again? No, Steve Carlton is not coming back.
Two hundred things and ninteen that's not coming back. But
can we get back to where Aces made thirty five
stars a year and the top pitchers in the league
who are throwing children twenty five to jundred and the theaters.
That's the game. I'd like to go back to, maybe
the mid two thousands. Justin Verlander. I want to say,

(01:03:31):
in two thousand and one, eleven is the last guy
to throw two hundred and at the ends of the year?
And was it two years ago? Only four guys got
to two hundred. This all starts with the rules set.
You've got to force teams to start using fewer pitchers,
and the only way to do that is to put
rules in place that make.

Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
Them do that.

Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
By the way, I've since Prez pitched on Sunday Murders
will not see him this week, which is a good thing.
The bad thing is argument can be made that the
hottest team in baseball right now may be the Florida Marlins.

Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
Tell us about these.

Speaker 11 (01:04:00):
Guys, Yeah, finally healthy. Perez is healthy. Of course, al
Kantara missed twenty twenty four and pitched that well last year.
He's really he's gonnumber three now, he's not really an ace.
They got a kid named Max Meyer who also missed
a lot of last year. He's back, and those three
guys are anchoring the rotation. They've had a lot of
injuries behind that. So the pitching staff behind that, I'm
not sure who you're catching in this series. I think

(01:04:21):
I think Meyer. Actually, yeah, yep, yeah, that's that is
a great, great matchup. You know, I stay up most
nights anyway, but I'm definitely gonna be locked in on
that one. Uh. And you look at this team. What
they've done this year is they've proved the offense. A
guy who was a Rule five pick of the Tigers
who they got in to trade a couple of years ago,
Liam Hicks got most of the catcher's job. He's been fantastic.

(01:04:43):
Xavier Edwards was a former Raised prospect they traded for.
He's turning into a good player. The guy you want
to watch, though. Otto Lopez, who's bounced around with a
few teams, emerge with the Marlins back into twenty twenty four,
and he's just gotten better and better, and he's actually
leading the National League hit He's might be leading all
the major leagues and hitting right now. But it's not
just a slappy Luis Riston. He's got some good power,

(01:05:03):
especially to the full side, hits, doubles, hits, some pops,
and his decent short stuffs. So he's really the star
of this team. The biggest difference between the Marlins this
year in previous years is that they can finally score
some months.

Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
I like talking to Joe she In every Tuesday because
I take something almost every Tuesday that you say, and
then I use it later in the week. I always
do get full attribution, or I use it on molliwat
Monday with Chris and Nathan, which I did yesterday. This
will probably yeah, those guys, by the way, this will
probably get me in trouble again. This is Joe Shean's
least favorite topic. I'm gonna bring it up yet again.
I think I brought it up like three weeks ago

(01:05:36):
because it's Meyer the All Star nine to one tonight
against Brian Wu. Brian Wu on the road, Joe. We're
at now what nine games on the road for Brian Wu.
Can we be concerned with Brian Wu on the road
yet or not?

Speaker 11 (01:05:49):
No, you can't. It's just not the way the it's
just not the way home. Road splits work on road
splits in a single season are noise.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
Okay, So you here that enters, that's noise.

Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
Noise.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
He gets lit up tonight. We're getting Joe back on tomorrow.
I'll ask him about the noise.

Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
Oh the same.

Speaker 11 (01:06:05):
I apologize. I thought I thought you guys were home.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
They are definitely yeah. No, they're definitely yeah. So you
don't have to stay up, buddy. It's a perfect for you.
You know, it's perfect for you. You can watch Brian Wu.
And here's the thing now that I say this, he's
gonna he's gonna be Brian Wu home.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
Brian Wu.

Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
HEAs in terms of his numbers tonight and Joe's gonna
sit there and say, see, Ian just a moron. It
makes no sense. Why does he bring this up every
couple of weeks? So I I will here's the.

Speaker 11 (01:06:30):
Thing, if I if I don't think nine game home
road splits are meaningful, I'm certainly not going to give
you crap over a one game home. So you gotta
be you got to be a stat nerd.

Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
You gotta be cons.

Speaker 1 (01:06:41):
I love it, Andrews. Are you concerned with Brian wu
on the road or do you dare say that I'll
stick with Joe on this one. I'll say it's noise,
good call, that's a good call.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Stay out of this one.

Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
And just tapped out. He's like, I'm good. I'm on
the side of being right. I'm on I'm on Joe's side.
All right, Well it is a big time it is. Well,
he's got Columbia Switzerland on well, cups on Jay, He's
got Columbia Switzerland on right. He's actually, you know what,
in his defense, Joe, he's anchoring. We have one hundred
stations with iHeart across the country. And Andrews is the

(01:07:11):
the pre and post game host for the featured game
every night on the on the iHeartRadio app and across
the country one hundred stations. He's he's kind of a
too big a deal right now to be on with us.

Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
I can tell you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:21):
I can just tell you that, all right, Joe, She
has brought to you by our good friends at Northwest
Handling Systems. Tell us about the newsletter real quick, Joe, Joe, get.

Speaker 11 (01:07:32):
Come and just say you know, if you like these
segments with Ian, I think you'll like the newsletter into
our seventeenth season now covering the game on it covers
off the field, on the field. I did the thing
today about the the MLB player's proposal last week, some
of the roster changes they want to make to keep
guys from getting You'll see this guy you got for
five in Things of Relief and get sent down because
the team wants the roster spot back because then I'm

(01:07:53):
not going to use that guy for a couple of days.
So what about that? I wrote about the euro Forrest
thing on Monday, because everybody's talking about that over the weekend.
Sometimes right on the weekends. I did a thing about
I look through the box scores and come up with
a bunch of notes. I did that as well, so
This isn't probably gonna help people in Seattle, but you know,
we're doing an event this week at Camden Yards. We've
this a third year in a row. We get a

(01:08:13):
bunch of subscribers together, we take over a suite at Camden,
watch the game, talk ball. It's a great time. So
excited for that. This weekend. We do people come from
the West Coast. We've had people come in from from
la in recent years. We had somebody to come in
from Hawaii last year. So it's a lot of fun.
So it's a big week for the newsletter.

Speaker 1 (01:08:28):
Joshian dot com Joshian Newsletter. We are off Joe just
as a heads up next Tuesday, because Andrews is kicking
us off the air. We have a I'll be a
quarterfinal match next tuesdays, I believe. So yes, I have
a quarterfinal match of World Cup soccer. So Joe, you
and I will talk in two weeks time, if that's.

Speaker 11 (01:08:44):
Okay Andrews, I can come on and talk about X
writing and the number of balls kicked out over the
over the net. That's my favorite thing about.

Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
The Yeah, well maybe in two weeks we'll have to
sample size large enough for you Joe waited.

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Anderson Hurst well please.

Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
Yeah the words that have those words ever been uttered
on this show?

Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
But no, we do.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
We missed, We missed Joe just too. All right, Joe
talks to you a couple weeks. Thanks, my man.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Here come to crack the good house thumpers in US.

Speaker 10 (01:09:43):
Do you want see?

Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
This is the daily power play?

Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
Power on your voting for the Cucking Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ A f M.

Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
The Daily power Play. It's brought to you by.

Speaker 5 (01:10:07):
Not just inventory of Kubota equipment in Kane County, now
your daily look at the National Hockey League and the Seattle
Kraken with the infants.

Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
All right on, We're not.

Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
Gonna do a daily power play on a daily basis.
Much over the next couple of months, to be honest
with you, because there just isn't a lot going on
in the world of hockey. There could be, there's still
that kind of like the NFL, there's that secondary phase
of free agency, guys getting signed. Claudus signed today, stuff
like that. Bill would like the cracking to do something.
We all would come on hope the something the But

(01:10:43):
it's funny. On Friday a story came out which I knew.
I was giving a heads up it was going to
come out. I was kind of waiting to see it.
So Friday night, Friday News stump it comes out, and
of course it caused all kinds of stir I'm thinking
to myself on Friday, I cannot wait to tackle this
and shoot holes in it on Monday. And then Monday happened,
and we had a little thing called the US men's
national team taken on Belgium around a sixteen game. We

(01:11:05):
had Jimmy's on first, and I mean we barely got
the fact that the MS were five to one on
during those three hours. We had Furious Felts on. By
the way, I would love to hear Furious Felts today.

Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
I want to hear his response to last night.

Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
I think a furious Feltz response to last night is
needed on the on the Talk back Line, if that's possible.
Got Aside story broke on Friday Elliott Friedman and basically
he had it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Shane writes.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Agent says Jason Bottle has agreed to move Shane this
summer to a team in need of a top young center.
So this comes out on Friday. It's also in the
thirty two Thoughts podcast, this is going to happen. Elliott
Freeman reports, and everyone's like, Oh, it's got to be true,
It's got to be true, blah blah blah. I I

(01:11:53):
hate doing this, but I had immediately tweet out. Curtis
was the first kind of quote it crabtree as it's
factually incorrect. Agents are something, and initially there's bother some
pushback and people like, oh, that's not true. Then on
the podcast that they did end the season, Elliott says, quote,

(01:12:14):
it's not a guarantee from the cracking that right will
be traded. Wait a second, I thought you said it
was guaranteed you they promised to trade him, which I
told you was untrue. Common sense is not used in
today's reporting and insiders and all this, and I like
Elliott most of the time, but god, man, stop just

(01:12:34):
taking agents words for things. Use your own brain for
a second. I'm not just talking about him just period.
Shane Wright may get moved. You can make an argument
that he should get shit again and it needs to
get moved. And I think not just for him or
for the crack, but for the team. It just it

(01:12:55):
has not worked out here for him now. Part of
it is at some point because the insinuation from all
the We got a couple idiot blog sites in this town,
like really bad that cover the cracking, like just clueless
and like this. Well it's lack of player development. See

(01:13:16):
player development is now the key word because wiki talked
about in the audit. So everyone points to Shane right,
player development and all this off three coaches in three years.
You know, he's just he's regressing. Well, his numbers have regressed.
He was on the second power plea, you know last year.
At some point the common denominator might not be Hackstall,

(01:13:36):
Bilsma and Lambert.

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
Maybe it's the player.

Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
Did we not just spend the first hour talking about
not so much the US coach but the players. Yes,
when are players responsible. Shane by all accounts, great guy
by all accounts, And I checked on this a little
bit yesterday. Works his ass off. It just hasn't worked.
He just hasn't lived up to the expectations of a
high draft pick. But there was no guarantee. Never was

(01:14:08):
it said by the kracking Yeah, we're gonna we promise
we'll trade him this summer. Because think about this for
a second. At what point when you say that, do
you lose all leverage if you're the GM immediately is
the answer? You lose that, You lose it immediately. If

(01:14:30):
everybody knows you have to trade somebody, you lose leverage.
You lose leverage. They would never promise to do that.
If it helps them, they will, but there was no
promise made. Now it comes out, oh yeah, well maybe
he will, but there's no promise made.

Speaker 4 (01:14:44):
Well, did GM ever promise to trade someone?

Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
Two things that they wouldn't? But number two, why wouldn't you,
as a reporter or someone who's going to be an
aggregator whatever the hell they call that stuff like the
blogs we have here covering the crack in that just
take it for gospel that it's true. Why wouldn't you
use your own brain and think about what you just said. Anders,
I have no idea. You know what I wonder about Shane?

(01:15:09):
You coach you soccer, I did. How many kids have
you seen over the years? Hell, you probably played with
some that peak at a certain age and never get better.
It's a problem with the NHL draft. Now I'm not listen.
Shane may end up being a really good player someday.

Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
I hope he is. Again, I do hope he is.

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
If it's not here, but the kid goes get He's
got special exemption to play in the Ontario Hockey League
as a fifteen year old. Normally you can't play in
that league till you're sixteen, and usually there's only a
handful of sixteen year olds at that level. But he's
at fifteen. He played and sixteen had put up good numbers.
Mister Air with COVID twenty twenty, Ohl didn't play. What
if he just peaked really early and just didn't get better.

(01:15:52):
That happens. It's a problem with the NHL draft probably
Major League Baseball draft. You draft seventeen eighte year olds,
sometimes they don't get better.

Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
I will say the one thing kind of going against
the crack, and in this narrative is the fact that
they haven't. Really it's not just Shane that hasn't panned out.
Like fully, you could say Maddie yes to some extent,
but you still expect a little bit more from him.

Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
But they haven't always pointing to the number one pick
in the draft, he's a third line, three to third
PA defenseman only power yeah right.

Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
Yeah yeah, in that specific draft.

Speaker 1 (01:16:23):
Yeah, but I just mean, like overall, I mean, I'm
saying like Maddy wasn't yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, Mattie's better
than the guy went number one.

Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
It's not about like what players were available when you
made that pick. For me, it's about, Okay, what is
your track record with developing young talent at this point?

Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
And right now?

Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
I mean, they'll point to the fact they've had basically
at least one from every draft class playing in the NHL,
which is pretty good. Not every team can say that, right,
But none of them are all stars yet, right, So
I mean there's kind of a it's back and forth
a little bit maneguards.

Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
So yeah, anyway, I just want to get that out there.

Speaker 1 (01:16:53):
I just I hate that it's guys, stop believing everything
that the insiders tell you. Sometimes it's not true, and
sometimes you don't even have to have inside information. You
know it's not true. You just go Let me think
about common sense. Would John Schneider ever do that? When
you ever promise to trade? DK metcalf, I mean, like

(01:17:13):
when he's made trades. It's kind of come out of
the blue. Yeah, Like when Ross got traded. Were you
were here? Yeah, we're in the old side of the building.
It's like what Yeah, because we knew there was a
thought of it. But it's like, whoa, DK, whoa, Hey,
where'd that come from?

Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:17:29):
Worked out pretty well, by the way, pretty well both times.
We'll come back, John Line.

Speaker 8 (01:17:32):
Next.

Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
Now, from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety
three point three k j R FM sports headlines.

Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
The headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed cores Light.
You can go ahead and choose chill. We're getting ready
for the start the second half. Columbia and Switzerland. So
I checked scoreless in Vancouver, no goals, no goals. The
winner will take on Argentina. How did Argentina get to

(01:18:03):
the quarterfinals?

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Down to nothing, score three. Some guy named Messi's still
very good at soccer. Benning World champions are back. They'll
take on the winter US course lost this day fort
to one of Belgium Round of sixteen World Cups. Over
for the US marriage begin a series against the Marlin
State in Vancouver, or I'm sorry in Miami. Ryan Woo
against Max Meyer nine to one. Is an all star
this year in the National League. Ray Rock n Roll

(01:18:28):
is he here?

Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
Wow? Unbelievable. Let's get to it.

Speaker 5 (01:18:31):
Welcome Dean's weekly visit with John Lund Unleashed. He's a
Bay Area media icon who's known Ian for over twenty
five years. But don't let their age change your opinion
of them. John takes you through the Bay Area and
the NFC West and dupes it out with the Inn over,
the Niners and the Hawks. So let's unleash it now
with John Lund. Here's Ian.

Speaker 1 (01:18:54):
He is a media icon Westwood One doing radio in
San Francisco doing radio, and phoenis doing radio with us
every now and then.

Speaker 2 (01:19:02):
What the hell? The guy's an icon? Iconic is what
they call you right now? Iconic? John Lennon, how are you? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:19:09):
I can't give you some big news today, but I
may have some big news coming for you, big news.

Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
Well I can't tell you today, but it's coming. That
is just that is just.

Speaker 9 (01:19:21):
No, it's not People have to stay around. They have
to stay around every Tuesday. Maybe next week I'll be
able to announce it to you.

Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
The worst part, here's the worst part. You already know this.
I text you this earlier. We're off next week. We're
carrying soccer, so it's gonna be two weeks from now.
So I mean, I gotta wait two weeks. Is that
the deal?

Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Or I'll just call you. I guess so I may
just call you. So all right, yeah, what what what? What?

Speaker 8 (01:19:44):
What did you do to our soccer team?

Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
Listen?

Speaker 8 (01:19:46):
What did you do?

Speaker 1 (01:19:47):
And I'm gonna I'm gonna read text message that I'm
gonna I'm gonna text listen stop.

Speaker 9 (01:19:52):
It didn't play their worst game ever in in my city.

Speaker 8 (01:19:54):
They played their worst game ever in your city.

Speaker 10 (01:19:56):
That's the worst they've ever played, right, Yeah, it's up
there and this is and this is my this is
the text change exchange I have with one today nine
three in the morning.

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Good to go today, two o'clock. Your fans love you? Yes,
I said, no show next week. Soccer games on won't
be the US though. Quote, we suck, we do.

Speaker 6 (01:20:20):
I mean, look, you could be the biggest expert ever.
You'd be Alexei Lawless or Plint Dempsey or any of
those people that were up there doing a fine job.
And I don't care did the analyze ever you off?

Speaker 9 (01:20:31):
We suck. If we are a proper soccer country, that
goaltender would never be let back in our country. And
we and if we could, we would fly them all
coach somewhere near the bathrooms preferably.

Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
That was awful thirty two.

Speaker 8 (01:20:43):
A proper soccer county beside.

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Ourselves, they freeze free New York.

Speaker 9 (01:20:49):
The seat doesn't go back, you know, the seat doesn't
go back to the bathrooms right there.

Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
I often get that seat anyway, John, That was like,
like that was one of the greatest blunders in US sports.

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
I mean, that's that's Chris Webber time out?

Speaker 6 (01:21:07):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
Chris? We like, if you think of the worst ones ever,
Chris Webber timeout.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
Is right, Like they had a shot to win that
game though, Yeah, that but that was a gold standard, right,
like like just individual screw up. That was as bad
as it gets. Chris Webber time out for Michigan yeah,
but that play last night. I don't know what else
comes close to Brown.

Speaker 9 (01:21:25):
Remember Fred Brown, Georgetown, James Worthy.

Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
That's right. Yeah, we're dating ourselves right now with the.

Speaker 9 (01:21:31):
Shot Fred Brown, not not the Sonic, not the super
sixth Man, Supersonic NBA Champion. I'm talking Fred Brown to Georgetown,
throwing it to James Worthy like they were only down
to one. I know you guys all talked about this,
but they're only down two one at the time. Yeah,
you know it looks bad at the end if you
watch it. But I mean, how many people, honestly yesterday
gathered and got together.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
I know I did.

Speaker 9 (01:21:51):
You went out and get a good time, Like you know,
we can win this thing. I was on the air
here in Phoenix yesterday. You know, I don't know anything.
I'm yip yap, and we can beat these guys this
and that, and then to have that, I mean, my god,
like you said, it was a gas, just a buzz kills.

Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
We talked about this first out, like we were down
with the game, as you aftely pointed out, being here
in Seattle. Because of course it's our fault, it's your
fault here. It's either the city of Seattle's fault are
weird looking Mayor's fault or Trump's or Trump's fault. It's

(01:22:28):
Trump's fault. I mean your poison. Whose fault is it?
If of those three? Who you going with?

Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
Oh boy, I.

Speaker 8 (01:22:36):
Don't want to make your say, I don't want to
make your.

Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
Show political, but there I will. Just I'll put it
this way.

Speaker 8 (01:22:41):
And we talked about this yesterday.

Speaker 9 (01:22:44):
Look, it was great that Balligan gets to play and
all that kind of stuff, but we all know this.
We all know this is sports fans. There's a thing
whatever you want to call it, however term, whatever term
you use, I'll just use it. Use like sports juju,
whatever it is, like, we all have that feeling like
and and it's not necessarily this fault, but before the game,
everyone's creaming and crying and everybody's this is great.

Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
This is awesome.

Speaker 8 (01:23:07):
You know, people, finally you know this isn't like this
on our side.

Speaker 9 (01:23:10):
And then the only thing I said is, you know,
sometimes there's bad sports juju, and then maybe that's what
this is.

Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
Soccer. Soccer, Yeah, soccer guys came down.

Speaker 6 (01:23:19):
Yeah yeah, yeah, And so you know, i'd probably put
some of it on.

Speaker 1 (01:23:23):
That, you know, yeah, I just blame Seattle. I think
it's a season to blame Seattle, isn't it. I mean
that's what we do.

Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
Ye mean, that's what I would do. Sure, that's what
you did yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:23:32):
I'm sure everybody everybody in the NFC West is like,
stupid lumen Field. Yeah it's lumen Field. Yeah that's the
problem right there. It's got to be Looming Field. But
Veil Mary Place, everything else, all the stuff that's happened
in that stadium, it's got to be our fault here.

Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
So yeah, I couldn't.

Speaker 1 (01:23:47):
Yeah, oh god, I think that was a buzzkill, though,
was it?

Speaker 8 (01:23:50):
Not?

Speaker 1 (01:23:50):
Like you're sitting there like you mentioned, like how many
people like I know we did. You did, like let's
go like, let's have a little gathering. That's what makes
sports great. We're gonna watch us. And we mentioned this
ear you lose and you lose three two or two
to one, and you put up a fight and things,
it's a close game, and no problem, Like you're fine, right,
you live with that, Like maybe how Egypt lost today,

(01:24:11):
you wouldn't want that.

Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
I have a two nothing lead that you blow. But still.

Speaker 1 (01:24:15):
But then you can blame the officials because they'll complain
about the VNA R again and all that stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
So they've already come out and said it's fixed.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Yeah, so you could do that.

Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Yeah, any of those options are better than just getting
your teeth kicked in. I mean that was you know
what I should have known what was going to happen.
You want to talk about juju and as we saw it.
Did you see the lady yesterday stomach tattooed Patriots fan?

Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
Yes, we did.

Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
That's it. That was the That was the bad juju.
This league like, first.

Speaker 1 (01:24:41):
Of all, first of all, soccer fans in person, my god,
Like it's the best looking crowd in sports. It's not
even not even like there's nothing that compares. It's seventy five.

Speaker 9 (01:24:51):
Million, like NFL fans compared to soccer fans in just terms.

Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
Of just physical looks. Oh my god. That couldn't be.

Speaker 9 (01:24:57):
It couldn't be any more different.

Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
I mean they're like NFL fans are you and me?
You know, it's like elephant man stuff. And then and
then you go you turn on a soccer man. She
turned on a soccer match and it's like where are
all the beautiful people? They're at a FIFA game they're like,
we had some. So we're we're enjoying the sites. Last night,
we're doing the show a Jimmy's, which is across right
now and there in the city district, so we're doing
the show down there, and we had a code word

(01:25:21):
eight time we said America or US say that means
like take a look outside.

Speaker 9 (01:25:24):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
And it was just spectacular because we're just idiots. I am,
I'm the king idiot all a minute. I'm just like
an old dumb old man. But anyway, at one point,
lookalgo oh, and this woman's walking by and she's wearing
like a cut up New England Patriots jersey and it
and it's kind of like pulled up like a crop top.

(01:25:46):
She's got larger beer belly than me with a full
on stomach tattoo, and we's she was lost.

Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
She was one hundred percent lost. Like which times kick off?
You mean?

Speaker 1 (01:25:59):
Like for the soccer match? Is this is it Wednesday?
Is this September? Are we playing you guys? And the
opening game.

Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
Is no, no, not us Gate.

Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
But we once again we made fun of her. I
think she's just bad juju and I think that was
the problem.

Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
Ill blame. I'll blame God.

Speaker 1 (01:26:16):
I can't wait to see her again here in about
two months when she shows up again.

Speaker 2 (01:26:20):
Oh now I'm on time. Yeah, lord, well, what do
you hate?

Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
One of the things I love about about this is like,
then we we're gonna draw the general conclusions right of
like what happened and all this. I want to I
want to go down a little bit different road because
we brought this up. I brought this up. Andrews coaches
soccer at a high level you soccer has when he's
not working here, and your son played baseball, if I'm
not mistaken, pretty high.

Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
Pretty high, high level.

Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
Yeah, my favorite thing now is across the country. But
it's you sports. The reason we're not good at you sports,
and soccer is too expensive and blah blah blah and
all this stuff. Did that just start like with soccer
yesterday or hasn't that been going on since kids? Like
this is not a new thing.

Speaker 9 (01:27:03):
No, no, look, I hate to say this, like the
whole I told you so thing, but this is what
we do all the time.

Speaker 8 (01:27:09):
Right.

Speaker 9 (01:27:09):
We get to a certain level, we get hyped up,
we disappoint people, and then you know, if we had
lost in a normal way. But yeah, this has been
going on for a long time. I think what people
don't understand is that even though it's not a really
expensive sport to play, but to get to the level
and Andrews.

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
Can jump in here in time, but I mean to get.

Speaker 9 (01:27:25):
To the level that they're at, you know, the other
places this is.

Speaker 2 (01:27:29):
This makes it really easy on everybody.

Speaker 9 (01:27:30):
The reason why we you know, there's not international football.
We're trying, but it's not. It's not an international sport.
Now baseball as basketball is. Why are we so good?
Because all the basketball players from around the world want
to come here and play in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
It's the highest level Major League Baseball.

Speaker 9 (01:27:45):
It's the same way Japanese players, Latin players, they want
to come here. That's where the ultimate game is. The
ultimate game is not here. The ultimate game is not
in the US.

Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
The olpimate game is in the Premier League.

Speaker 9 (01:27:55):
And again everybody knows this because Seattle is a great
soccer town. But I mean, those guys are making three
four hundred dollars. The Viking, the dude on Holland is
making like one hundred million dollars. I mean, he's unbelievable.
We're never gonna have that here. But what we could
have is, you know, going out in a more graceful
fashion than we did, so we don't.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
For us.

Speaker 9 (01:28:14):
Sort is it's not like tennis or golf or you know,
any of those high brow you know sports that you
know you played.

Speaker 8 (01:28:19):
But I never could do that. You know, I'm not
a country club guy.

Speaker 9 (01:28:21):
You yea country club guy.

Speaker 2 (01:28:24):
You play a lot of golf.

Speaker 9 (01:28:25):
Uh, Like, soccer is generally a cheap sport to play,
but not at the level that you know. We're just
not ever going to dump that kind of money in,
are we.

Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
No?

Speaker 8 (01:28:33):
But Andrews would tell me we're not going to dump
that guy of money.

Speaker 3 (01:28:36):
I don't see it becoming something as important as it
is in other countries. But yeah, you're right that the
fact that you know, it not being the mecca of
soccer here in the US.

Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
It's over in Europe.

Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
But I look at once again, I'll look at the
world defending World champions Argentina. None of those players play
in Argentina. They play in Europe as well, right, But
it's the developmental systems from a youth level, right that
get them ready to play and at the top level
in Europe, so that when they come them back to
play for their national team. It's that much different. So
that's the difference between like the top nations and.

Speaker 1 (01:29:05):
Well but you like, but go back to the cost,
like because that's the big thing people are complaining about,
and you know, John just mentioned it. I think that
is the thing that you know, like the top like
the top players. The two worst players for the US,
especially last night, are the two guys that play in
the MLS. You know, the goalkeeper, the side. But but
that aside. Okay, so it's expensive to play for the academies,

(01:29:27):
your premier team. I mean, how much did you guys
spend zillions of dollars for George to play baseball growing up?

Speaker 2 (01:29:33):
Right? Like a god?

Speaker 9 (01:29:35):
Right?

Speaker 8 (01:29:35):
Yeah yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:29:36):
Even a bat cost me my entire salary for the year.
I mean it's just like one bat. And I.

Speaker 1 (01:29:44):
Was like, all right, and he died a second one
halfway through, right, he needed a second bat at some.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Point, like he could because he just hit so well,
my god, well, because.

Speaker 8 (01:29:55):
I tried to tell him.

Speaker 9 (01:29:56):
I tried to tell him earlier, like dude, you're not
going anywhere with athletics. You might want to talk about him,
which he does. But I'm like you're not going anywhere, Like,
I'll buy you the best bat money can buy, I guess,
and we can go all the academies and play all
the summer leagues.

Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
You know, you did it, you guys, you guys do it.
You guys understand.

Speaker 1 (01:30:12):
I don't know what the answer result, Like, I don't
know what the answer is because like everyone's like, that's
the thing today, that's the narrative. I'm screaming, yelling about
how it's you know, it costs too much to play,
and I'm like, well, you know what, it costs a
lot to play a lot of different things. It shouldn't
be that way. We should open things up for kids
to play more.

Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
Uh. But then the other thing, we specialize in all
those things.

Speaker 1 (01:30:30):
But you know, I'm guessing the top soccer players in
Argentina Anders are probably not playing basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Right, No, they're not right, and they're probably playing well.

Speaker 9 (01:30:37):
Thing right is that we we do spend money in
a lot of different ways, but we're so diverse in
all the sports that we have that that soccer is
kind of you know, gets I don't know some.

Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Of the left though.

Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
It gets lost the full time.

Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
Yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 9 (01:30:50):
Mean it just does. I mean, I hate to be
so simplistic about it, but I mean, I look, I
played actually there in Seattle. We were in southern California
and moved to Seattle for a brief period of time,
and I played in Edmunds. That I played, I was
a goalie on a travel team. That's how bad soccer
is in the US. I was a goalie when we
lived in Seattle on a travel team that went up
through Canada, and we were pretty good.

Speaker 8 (01:31:10):
But after that a few years later, it.

Speaker 9 (01:31:12):
Was like, oh, baseball and football, and you know, everybody
talks about this, but do we get the athletes, because
if we had the premier athletes, Like last night, I'm
watching Belgium. I don't know who number ten is, but
like he's a gray dude. It's like three feet tall.
He looks like a dwarf run around out there, and
he's just schooling us, and shouldn't we have better.

Speaker 6 (01:31:30):
Athletes than that dude?

Speaker 9 (01:31:31):
He looked like he was fifty And now he's putting
out to my wife and she was just you know who,
by the way, just gets into the games at this point,
Why is the clock going up?

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
Why extra time? I'm like, it's not the time to ask.

Speaker 8 (01:31:46):
To go a tangent, but like.

Speaker 6 (01:31:48):
He always comes downstairs at the time where it's.

Speaker 9 (01:31:50):
Like, look, man, it's a knockout round. I don't know
why the clock's going up. I don't want to tell
you about extra time. I don't know why they're kicking
the ball backwards. I know that's not the way of
the goal. Just just be patient here, will you.

Speaker 2 (01:32:02):
Patience? Patience is part of soccer. What are you say, Andrews, Well, yeah, anyway,
go ahead?

Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
Yeah, I mean John's John's part. John's point about the athletes.
I think everyone says, oh, if all the best athletes
played soccer would be the best.

Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
I don't think it's that simple.

Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
I really don't.

Speaker 3 (01:32:16):
It's it's it turns into a like how you develop them, right.
I don't think it's a lack of athleticism that the
US is not the best team in the world. It's
the fact that they don't have the infrastructure of these
other countries at the youth level.

Speaker 1 (01:32:28):
And I think that's it, right, there's development. Well, I
just I think you can make an argument that John.
You probably agree, having watched you know that baseball when
up until what he probably finished what five years ago
playing you know, the baseball, the travel ball is your son.
But the best, the best athletes in the States are
not playing baseball either, like they're not right, Like the
best athletes are playing football, football, and basketball, and then

(01:32:50):
trickle down from there. Our best athletes aren't playing hockey.
But we just want a gold medal. Yeah exactly, we
just want to go medal missipicks for the best or
the best of the world of that.

Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
So they're doing so.

Speaker 1 (01:32:58):
Maybe it's on the federal maybe it's on the development,
maybe it's on whoever the governing body is. Because USA
Hockey seems to have figured it out, right, USA basketball
has it figured out, like maybe the women have it
figured out, although women's different because we invest more in
women's sports in most countries, but still like they've all
figured it out. I just you know, it was we

(01:33:19):
brought this up. We're gonna check our text coming over
the next segment. I just kind of thought last night
ruined my US world. I still like the games. I'm
watching Switzerland Columbia as we speak right now. I'll watch
as many games as I can. I love the World Cup,
but I thought it ruined my US experience just because
they were such no shows yesterday, like just absolute no
shows in that game. And it's probably what you said,
there's some bad juju. One team was motivated. The other

(01:33:41):
team probably felt like, hey, we got our guy. We've
seen this in sports all the time, right, you don't
expect a guy to play.

Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
Oh, he's hurt, he's not going to play.

Speaker 1 (01:33:48):
And then all of a sudden, magically he comes out
there and plays, and the rest of the team kind
of sits back and relaxes a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
I think that's also what happened.

Speaker 9 (01:33:55):
Yeah, I just I think you hit it right on
the heads in that last part. It's like thirty million
people watch this thing. It's the most watched US soccer game.
It was at five o'clock Pacific, eight Eastern. It fit
perfectly on. It was on our home soil. It was
in a great soccer city like Seattle, and they just
fell on their face. And for all the good things
that you know had been happening and all these kind
of things, you know, Fox has got to be sitting

(01:34:15):
there going come on, man, because here's the thing again.
I know people in Seattle realize this, but look, man,
we've been to where we were last night. We didn't
there was nothing new, and then to lose in that fashion,
in just such a as you said, no show fashion,
I think I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
People would have to tell me.

Speaker 9 (01:34:32):
I think it tears down everything good that was built up.

Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
Yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
By the way, we play the Arizona Diamondbacks this year
in urnurse, do we pu enters?

Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
You know?

Speaker 1 (01:34:40):
Off the top of your head? Why, I just I
just stumbled across. Hang on, hang on, I'm looking for.

Speaker 2 (01:34:45):
It at some point.

Speaker 1 (01:34:46):
Right, let's see where are they at right now, Miami,
San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
I think they might have already seen them. Yeah, oh
that's right.

Speaker 1 (01:34:56):
Yeah, I was going to get the kid on I
wanted to get. I want to get George lun from
Locked On, Locked On diamond Back.

Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
He's unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (01:35:03):
He is.

Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
He is a kid. I'm looking the video right. He's
a good looking kid. Yeah, you get that. Got his
mom's look his mom's you know, not me.

Speaker 9 (01:35:11):
I just wish he would shave that muscle.

Speaker 8 (01:35:13):
He looks like he's got a caterpillar in his lip.

Speaker 2 (01:35:15):
God, he's got a bad and that's the thing. Oh,
it's such a bad stash.

Speaker 9 (01:35:18):
And it's like seriously, it's like seventies bound the wow.

Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
Wow. It's just it's so bad.

Speaker 9 (01:35:24):
It's such a bad porn stash and it's and you
know how kids aren't that age because you got him
too at that age, like you try to tell him
anything right now, and they think they've got the world
figured out and it's and I tell him, like, dude,
the stash is so bad. He goes, you don't know
anything about fashion, and you don't know about anything that's
in like this is cool, and all of his friends
have them and they're brutal.

Speaker 1 (01:35:43):
Well, the good news is is I get that from
my kid, and then I get it from my daughter,
my son and my daughter, and then I come in
here and I get it from my producer who was
also fairly young as well, so Andrew to So I
get it. I get it from all sides, buddy, I
get it from all sides. So yeah, are you on
Are you on National?

Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
What are you doing these days?

Speaker 8 (01:36:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:36:05):
Rest of the week, I'll be doing the mornings on
it's usually the Drake col Show on. I think it's
on your sister station on West forty, and I'm doing.

Speaker 8 (01:36:12):
Lots of yeah, and we get tons of stuff, Like
I said.

Speaker 9 (01:36:15):
Especially Saurday and Sunday nights to do the shows late
night Pacific time?

Speaker 8 (01:36:19):
Was it eight to midnight against specific.

Speaker 9 (01:36:22):
Again, we're all the you know, where you put the
real talent, and they we get tons of calls. Man,
we're getting tons of calls, especially this week because you know,
everybody was talking.

Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
I mean, this was what was cool about sports radio.

Speaker 9 (01:36:31):
I will give him this credit every station, you know,
and I'm working on local national shows too, and we're
all talking soccer. You know, we were all talking soccer.
And it sucks because it ended in a better fashion.
I think there would still be a discussion point. But
it's just so nasty that I like today, like I
did a local show, we didn't talk anything. I'm doing
national shows the rest of the week. I mean, we'll
bring it up maybe, but they had their chance, you know,

(01:36:52):
they had their chance.

Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
All right, Well, listen, we'll go check Linday. He loves
when people in Seattle check in with him, So go
check it out on Westwood One, front of.

Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
The Linny call tea.

Speaker 9 (01:37:01):
Man, I see a Seattle or a Seattle area call front.

Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
Of the line. Wow, how about that? See that's that's
the kind of.

Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
That's kind of service he provides for our listeners special
treatment as well. It should be all right, I talk
to you in two weeks time, all right, and then
you can tell me what the big news. That's when
I call you later, all right. See, yeah, that's gentlemen. God,
can you what a tease? Big news coming up? Can't
tell you now, I can't tell you. Wow, that's pretty
rude on his part, quite rude. All right, we'll check
the text four nine, four to five one. I'm hoping
to get a Furious Felts call in on the talkback,

(01:37:28):
because Furious is furious. He's I haven't seen him today.
Have you seen him out there today? Nope, I can't
fathom where he's out right now.

Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
He's just not even like angrily texting us like you
normally would.

Speaker 1 (01:37:39):
No, that's what's weird. I'm a little worried about Jackson.
All right, maybe Furious will call in. We'll do that next.

Speaker 5 (01:37:48):
Now, back Dean Furness on your Home for the Huskies
Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by Seattle's
Closest Snow Call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three.

Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Hey, JR FM.

Speaker 12 (01:38:05):
That was an excellent monologue in you articulated exactly how
I feel.

Speaker 1 (01:38:13):
Okay, I think that was in regards to the US
soccer team.

Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
Probably are you got one more?

Speaker 9 (01:38:24):
Hey, guys, it's sad fake fears filters here and that.

Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
Was just awful, awful, awful.

Speaker 7 (01:38:32):
I gotta no other words, guys, sad fake fears philps out.

Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
I'll see you in two thousand and thirty.

Speaker 9 (01:38:42):
Go Mariners, Go Seahawks, and those importantly go Seattle.

Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
They didn't get actual Jackson or theorious Felts.

Speaker 1 (01:38:57):
Today, No, we got fake Felts, fake Felts with the
Kevin Shockey heavy size through.

Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 1 (01:39:04):
Pretty good, It's pretty good when it was all said
and done, all right, four nine, four five one, here
we go two o six. Andrews has it exactly right.
They weren't ready. They didn't look good. For the start.
Fans were cheering. There would be USA chances would get
started to try and public the team. They look listless.
The environment seemed great. This is from the c xeason
ticket Hohole results of the USA Australia game. There you
go next for I'm asking Greg too about that. He

(01:39:27):
said it wasn't as good as the Australia game. It's
just because I think I think, I think I give
Belgium credit for that.

Speaker 9 (01:39:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
Well, and like because the US started so.

Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
Fast in that USA Australia game, like they were coming
off the win against Paraguay and the like I said,
the crowd gets behind what they're seeing, right, If they
see high energy on the field, they bring high energy
in the stands, right, They just the US didn't never
bring that. So it's like, what do we even cheer about.

Speaker 1 (01:39:53):
Uh, let's see part of that match. Belgium looked old,
tired and slow. They put in their young fast pressing force,
told them to until they drip. They're only playing sixty minutes.
US wasn't ready and couldn't handle the pressure. Would you agree, Yeah, yeah,
two things can be right. Redacting the red card was
a joke. With the red card in the first place,
with jokes would evens out. Soccer has a problem with
horrible calls, flopping in all of it. Soccer's got a

(01:40:14):
lot of issues with the VAAR this year.

Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
Yeah, I mean it's always been an issue.

Speaker 1 (01:40:17):
But it's like Egypt sideways today over their call. They
too had a goal taken off. They had a goal
taken off the board for a foul that was very
you brought it up, that was very NHL like, yeah,
where we've seen this in the NHL, where like a
goal is scored and everyone's celebrating and then like you
find out they're going to challenge it and you go, well,
what were they challenging? Oh, was an offside that happened

(01:40:38):
like a minute beforehand.

Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
You know, this wasn't that bad because the foul happened
that the player then ran up the entire field and
then passed it and scored. So it was it direct
like it led directly to the goal, but it was
on the other side of the field, right, And that's
why Egypt's pissed off because they felt like it wasn't
in the correct passage of play. I've seen NHL where

(01:41:02):
it's like a minute later. Yeah, it's nuts, wild nuts.

Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
The United States was unprepared and uninspired, but there are
some other great sub stories in this tournament, the rise
of the African teams, all the mindos that came through
and gave exciting moment, especially Cape Verde outstanding goalkeeping. The
United State's notwithstanding because he's terrible, true and messy. Is
age performing this level and is still making a big difference.
So those are the stories and making this tournament so exciting.
I would agree with all that. I would agree with

(01:41:28):
all that. You and Jackson talked about the African Nations
and their rise up a little bit too right now, right, yep?
Then they got this guy too. Thankfully, I don't have
to pronunce like soccer anymore. I remember their World Cup
has two good games, one marginal game, another semi good game,
and a complete turd.

Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
Hey, hey, you know what I understand.

Speaker 3 (01:41:43):
There's a lot of people I just watch for the US,
and because of that fact, they couldn't they couldn't really
captivate that audience to make it even more than that.

Speaker 4 (01:41:51):
But it is what it is.

Speaker 1 (01:41:53):
That was the first game I've ever watched. It was
clear to me how much better Belgium was as a
team in the US definitely looked blackadaisical. I'm gonna say, like,
where were you for the first four games of the
tournament for the US.

Speaker 3 (01:42:03):
I mean again, this is there's gonna be a lot
of people that watch that one and not the first four.

Speaker 4 (01:42:07):
Right, It's just the way it.

Speaker 1 (01:42:08):
Goes, okay, rip it on Seattle. We'll get to that tomorrow.
I'm gonna do that tomorrow. Tomorrow. Let's see, couldn't are
one are you couldn't one argue the price of baseball,
hockey and soccer limit the talent and limited explosure in America.
MLB isn't exactly killing it in popularity.

Speaker 3 (01:42:26):
Yes, but the Americans are, if not the best, there
are at least top.

Speaker 4 (01:42:30):
Two or three.

Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
Yeah, Like we're in the conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:42:32):
We're talking about like outcome, not popularity here.

Speaker 1 (01:42:35):
Yeah, like we're talking yeah, and I don't I'm not
going to use the World Baseball Classic as a measuring
stick because so many guys opted.

Speaker 4 (01:42:41):
Out the final.

Speaker 1 (01:42:42):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, and even then, USA has never
been a World Cup final. Yeah, no World Baseball Classic,
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:42:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:42:49):
I would just also point out that there's a lot
of guys, including every Mariner starter, who didn't want to
play in that. Yeah, So you don't give that still
got to the final. You don't get the best of
the best, and it's still you're still really good. Yeah,
Like you're still really good. And I listen by no
means am I saying that you sports costs aren't out
of control. They are and I think that prohibits a
lot of kids from playing. I think in our country

(01:43:11):
we talked about this earlier. A lot of times kids
peak early, other kids develop late, yep, and you start
losing out on some what could be some talented players
in young people along the way. There's got to be
a better solution. If I had it, I would tell
you today. I just don't have it. Yeah, because it
still costs money.

Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
It does, you know? It's incredibly expensive. Yeah, there's a
lot of pay to play that doesn't for the best
players in other countries France, England, wherever they they subsidize
the ability to have so anyone, no matter where you
are socioeconomically, can play and develop. Two six one loss

(01:43:47):
does not remove the joy that I found in this sport,
and I can't wait to continue to learn more. I'll
couple that with this one right above it. Kids are
still into it, so not ruined for me. Good, Yeah, good,
I will say anyone. I understand a lot of Peo
people that maybe this isn't your thing and you will
only watch for the US. That's totally fine, totally understand it.
For anyone who has any sort of interest and is

(01:44:07):
maybe kind of debating whether they want to continue watching
now that the US is out.

Speaker 4 (01:44:11):
Please do.

Speaker 3 (01:44:12):
I highly recommend it because it only gets better from
here in terms of the sport itself.

Speaker 2 (01:44:16):
Two oh six. Hey, guys, what's worse to lose like
we did or lose like Egypt did.

Speaker 4 (01:44:20):
That's a good question.

Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
God, they've both a really good question. I would say.

Speaker 4 (01:44:28):
I'd still take Egypt because you could because.

Speaker 2 (01:44:30):
You were entertained for eighty.

Speaker 3 (01:44:32):
Nine minutes and you felt like you were the better team,
and months removed, Yes, you will still feel like it
was a missed opportunity, but you could say, hey, we
were the better team in that game.

Speaker 4 (01:44:42):
There's a lot to build on.

Speaker 1 (01:44:44):
I thought yesterday was just such a buzzkill, a total buzzkill,
Like there was just nothing entertaining about that match in
any way, shape or form. So I guess I would
say Egypt is. I would have rather be Egypt.

Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
Yeah, but that's here's an interesting one. Ian US team
over rated?

Speaker 1 (01:45:02):
Why did so many US soccer and Sports X was
rate the US so high when it is really in reality,
US is still a second class in soccer.

Speaker 2 (01:45:08):
That's Ralph from Bellevue.

Speaker 3 (01:45:09):
There is a lot of sentiment around that. I will say,
you're not alone and thinking that Ralph, that Fox and
the people around.

Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
Do you believe the US underachieved I think by the
level of their talent.

Speaker 3 (01:45:21):
No, I think they did exactly what kind of We
talked about this yesterday. Going into the tournament, I think
rut of sixteen was around the expectation. Of course, we
may have shifted that expectation after we saw the first
few games, but going into the tournament, I think if
you had lost in the round to thirty two, it's
a failure around at sixteen mah okay, quarterfinal would have

(01:45:44):
been a huge success. That's the difference in those three there. Yeah,
and again it's not the fact that you lost this game,
it's how it happened. That's what's so deflating and so
frustrating about this.

Speaker 1 (01:45:57):
Two of six all Caps vary actual fan here didn't
ruin it for me, but the effort was atrocious. I'm
done with Polistic. He's better not get anymore in national endorsements.
That was the hard thing last night. I know you
guys were on the air. Yeah, I think in the
post game nonsense. There was probably four or five commercials
featuring Christian Polistic, and I'm watching it with my son

(01:46:20):
of a couple of his buddies that they're like yelling
like what are we doing?

Speaker 4 (01:46:23):
Why are we doing that?

Speaker 1 (01:46:24):
Why is this guy getting those endorsements like and you know,
making them look all cool and all this stuff, and
it's like, dude, you just.

Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
Look he tapped out to straight up tap out.

Speaker 4 (01:46:34):
Two six.

Speaker 3 (01:46:35):
If Polistics the USA is top player, then things are
a lot worse than what we saw yesterday. He wasn't
just a non factor. He was a negative factor. And
I mean, yeah again, if there will be a lot
of people that watched yesterday is maybe your first really
into it game. Pulistic still a good player, He's very talented.
He showed his quality in the first match against Paraguay.

(01:46:56):
Is probably the best player on the field. But the
fact that in the biggest moment you can't show up
is the biggest kind of knock against him. And that's
that's the issue. And unfortunately he didn't kind of do
anything to exercise those demons.

Speaker 1 (01:47:10):
Two o six. Talking about what we're talking about, Joe
about the no hitter. A couple of days ago, I
watch highlights of Fernando valens Wail was no hitter in
nineteen ninety. Vin Scully said, quote hundred seven pitches through eight,
so he should have plenty of ammunition left.

Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
Only smokes. Times and pitchcouns have certainly changed. A fun fact.

Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
Dave Stuart also through a no hitter that day, only
time in MLB history, two and no hitters with on
the same day. Joe mentioned this. It's just it's completely different.
It is completely completely different.

Speaker 4 (01:47:33):
Yeah, different world.

Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
Shane Wright was full grown at fifteen, since a four
two five, and he bullied little gets with size not skill.

Speaker 2 (01:47:39):
It's why I failed them.

Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
They had no plans to draft him, were forced two
when he was there, so obviously skating and stick puck
skills really improved. But he's just got a top six
bodying out the skills will be a top four. Rather
than training for someone else's sake, They need to let
him play on his contract done. The turnover machine needs
to be moved. He has a good shot but cost
you two points every twenty scores. I don't know about that,
but you great year. I think Vince, I think Vince.

(01:48:02):
I think Vince could get moved. I mean Vince would
bring something back for you. I mean, they're that's redundant
with Mandean team.

Speaker 3 (01:48:08):
But Derek and the two six Anders, why do't the
men attack the goal? So many wasted possessions there. That
is a sentiment from maybe not diehard soccer fans that
ask me that all the time possession is valued so
highly now that you kind of want to keep it
for as long as you possibly can, not just to attack,
but to avoid the other like keep it from the

(01:48:29):
other team from attacking you.

Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
Right, Yeah, so you see that with Spain.

Speaker 3 (01:48:32):
Spain are the Kings at this They win a lot
of one zero games, but they have eighty percent possessions,
so they never get scored on. So that's kind of
the idea there. I agree with you. It kind of
has gone overboard and the lack of directness has kind
of gone a little too far the other direction. So
I think Columbia team that's playing right now is a
team that kind of is a little throwback in that way.

(01:48:54):
They just go straight to the goal every single time,
and they're not super clinical. They missed a lot of chances,
but little at the goal. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:49:02):
Hugh Millan says it constantly when you're dealing with mid
teenage males. Some hit period early, they stand up athletically
versus their peers at that time. Yeah, and Coe will
text that in about that about when I mentioned Shane, right,
maybe he peaked at fifteen or sixteen. I think it's
also why we have to be careful. It's twofold today
with our conversations.

Speaker 2 (01:49:19):
One.

Speaker 1 (01:49:19):
I do think that that may be the case of Shane.
I don't know, maybe not, who knows. I'm just that's
just a guess. I'll get still break out somewhere. But
there was no doubt when he was fifteen he was
thought to be the bea, all the end ault And
I think that the same thing with we're worried about
developing athletes in our country at any sport, Like when
we exclude kids by the time they're ten, eleven, or twelve,
you might be missing out on some really talented players

(01:49:40):
in any sport soccer, football, basketball, hockey, whatever. But Dick
joins us.

Speaker 13 (01:49:44):
Next, Dick fainus here, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 1 (01:50:06):
Last I saw him, he was in the Madhouse. It
was Jimmy's on first. You had furious felts with you
did all hell was breaking, which I'm I'm very surprised
that Andrews' clothes right now.

Speaker 4 (01:50:18):
After earlier today.

Speaker 2 (01:50:20):
With Argentina, I heard he went nuts after they scored.

Speaker 12 (01:50:23):
I walked into the room and I kind of shielded
my eyes because I didn't want to look over to
my right for fear that I would see a naked Anderson.

Speaker 2 (01:50:31):
Yeah, I close on, close off, closing, clothing optional.

Speaker 4 (01:50:34):
I hope Dick after yesterday, that's right, that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:50:38):
Well, you have your team still alive.

Speaker 1 (01:50:39):
Jackson has Spain, right, that's his pick, and he's not
as attached emotionally to Spain.

Speaker 2 (01:50:44):
I don't think as you are Argentine.

Speaker 4 (01:50:45):
Well, now the US is out.

Speaker 2 (01:50:48):
How is he doing today? Have you talked to him, Dick?
How is Joe Jackson? He's He's okay.

Speaker 12 (01:50:53):
Yeah, he seems fairly normal right now. I haven't really
talked soccer with him yet. I've just talked about the
show with him.

Speaker 2 (01:50:58):
So here's what you should Is he in there right now?

Speaker 4 (01:51:00):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:51:00):
No, not yet. Just start to show and say Christian
policitic reac.

Speaker 12 (01:51:06):
It'll be part of our first segment at Freeze. We
are going to do a Freeze. It'll be an interesting round.
We're gonna have a roundtable between me and Hugh and Jackson.
So we'll have the the lay person in me, the
lay person in Hugh, and the freak show in Jackson,
all talking about what happened last night and what are
the ramifications and what does this mean? And is Christian
polisic a Is he a sympathetic figure or is he

(01:51:28):
a villain?

Speaker 2 (01:51:29):
You know, like what's you know what we'll go in
there is definitely not sympathetic.

Speaker 12 (01:51:33):
Yeah, you know, for me, it was it was fun
yesterday prior to the game, because you know, seeing it
at Jimmy's. You know, I took my scooter. I had
my scooter. She scooted all the way to the to
the storm facility. So I went all along the waterfront
like five miles.

Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
How insane was It was awesome?

Speaker 12 (01:51:50):
Yeah, Like I just every about minute, I was like
I need to pull over and take a picture.

Speaker 2 (01:51:55):
I need to pull over and take a video.

Speaker 12 (01:51:57):
So I kind of did like three or four posts
over the course like thirty minutes, like here's where I
am now, Here's where I am now, And just the
tens of thousands of people watching that game, and I
was at the big the barge when Belgium scored their
first goal and you couldn't really tell who scored.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
Well, you knew that.

Speaker 12 (01:52:16):
The US didn't score, and you knew that something. But
it was almost like a groan, like a oh it
was a penalty on America like it was like at
that time. It was just kind of like a like
like not he just like oh my god.

Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
It was just it was like a h And I
was like, what happened?

Speaker 5 (01:52:30):
Then?

Speaker 12 (01:52:30):
I thought I heard John Strong say and it's one
nothing Belgium.

Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
I was like, what, It's not good? And I tried
to fight my way through so I can see the
screen and it around sure is bleep. It was one
nothing Belgium.

Speaker 12 (01:52:42):
And I was like, well that was kind of a
weird reaction from like ten thousand people.

Speaker 1 (01:52:45):
Was like because it was expected. They looked terrible from
the stit Well yeah they did.

Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
You know what sick it too is?

Speaker 1 (01:52:50):
As I was walking through the crowd, I ran smack
dab as I was heading to the link right link
link trail link link light rail is anybody even on
it D game? It was wild. Well I was before
the game, but I got to it at about two,
you know, about three twenty or so, and in the
old Union station there the train's coming from Bellevue in

(01:53:15):
and then the one coming from Lynnwood down like sardine.

Speaker 2 (01:53:19):
Sorry, it reminded me.

Speaker 1 (01:53:20):
Of when I was on the subway Super Bowl Week
back in twenty fourteen, like in taking the subway down
to the radio, row them back to you by yourself
going to Bellevue. No, there was a handful of people.
There are all people that are like, what's going on here?
Because you can tell like they work downtown. They take
it every day right there weren't any soccer fans. It
was just me, you know, and then a munch looked
like they work downtown. But it was wild because as

(01:53:42):
I'm walking out and the Belgium march of the match,
I ran smack dab into that and all the people
are on. I was just thinking, We're just not used
to that stadium having a massive game, whether it's a
playoff game for the Seahawks or an NFC championship game,
MLS Cup, Cocky calf the champions say, what was the
one they won?

Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
The big leagues? That stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:54:03):
We're not used to having all that pre hype. And
then the team that we're rooting for having a dead
in that street. We really aren't. Like, we've been pretty
bus you mentioned it yesterday. They've won, they've won every
NFC Championship game, sounders buy and large. When they've played
a big game there, big match, they win, right, at
least showed up.

Speaker 2 (01:54:20):
At least they show up. That's a good point.

Speaker 12 (01:54:22):
Surprised to see the ratings, maybe I am Maybe I'm not.
It was much lower than I thought. But maybe it's
just because people saw how the US was playing and they.

Speaker 1 (01:54:29):
Were like games over man, game was over all right.
So you got the roundtable early on with Tailor furious Felts.

Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
That'll be fun.

Speaker 12 (01:54:36):
Uh, you know, kid trying to keep Andrews. You might
need to stay in there for the first thirty matches
just to make sure he stays in our.

Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
Control and doesn't swear or anything like that.

Speaker 5 (01:54:44):
You know.

Speaker 12 (01:54:44):
Mike DECURSI our good friend that doesn't college a great
job with soccer. He is a US men's national team
writer for like thirty five years job. So he is
going to come on at four o'clock and give us
kind of the national perspective for what what all this means.
And we are efforting to get Brian Schmitzer because today
is his Tuesday that he comes on. I understand he
is flying down to San Jose right now, so hopefully

(01:55:06):
at six o'clock we will talk to the coach of
Seattle Sounders FC and get his take on what he
witnessed last night.

Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
Well, all right, that's all coming up with Dick Faine
Jacksonville's humil inext for the.

Speaker 2 (01:55:15):
Mild mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness. This is paddle day,
saying so long everyone,
