Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, mister Hurst, thank you. A couple of days
or a day off, Yeah, rejuveniated, ready to.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Go, ready to go. Yeah, it took a little weekend
plus a day. I went up to my beach house
and come in on that very nice. You missed a
hell of am Ali walk yesterday, I'm sure I did.
I still went back and listened to the podcast. I
want to make sure I got those guys. Yeah, it
was six of it.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
What I'm going to get into, I'm going to get
into the Wilson thing in a second, because I was.
I read the story that Devish wrote today in the
Times and how they're not going to fire him, which
is fine. Yeah, I get that, Yeah, we get that.
The reason one of the reasons that he wrote. I
just about split up my coffee this morning. It was
just it's the exact reason you should fire him, to

(00:42):
be honest with you and I and I haven't said
yet fire. I don't know. I'm just so torn on it.
I don't think firing Dan Wilson necessarily flips the switch,
but maybe it would. And I think if you're serious
about winning, you try to, you know, leave no stone unturned,
even if it hurts feelings along the way. But you know,
we discussed it yesterday just you know, the weekend that

(01:04):
was the fiftieth anniversary, the Cool celebration on Saturday. You know,
whether it was the fact that, you know, most people
cheered a Rod In fact, I think as many people
bowed Dan as they booed a Rod probably, which which
really kind of went kind of it kind of went

(01:25):
on unnoticed in a sense. I agree that that. Oh yeah, well,
like Aybrody, you know it was a smattering of boose. Well,
there was more boost for Dan, I think way more.
I'm getting too that in a second. We'll probably get
into that in the second and after we have Dave.
Dave Sim's going to join us here in about ten
minutes time, fifteen minutes time, so we'll get to that
here in a little bit. I just wanted I wanted

(01:47):
to bring this up with you real quick before because
you weren't here yesterday, and you're a big baseball guy,
and you do the postcast and a bunch of stuff
with it, the hot stove thing with Chuck yep. As
it stands right now, so they start the road trip
today and they're in this midst of this gauntlet of
a schedule run where I think it was six straight

(02:10):
teams that they're facing in series are all playoff teams
and all you know good. In fact, the worst of
them it will be Houston, which is leading their division
by four and a half games, but they get swept
by Tampa. They as you pointed out in the in
the headlines that you put together for US, I mean,
it's not just the fact that they're four and a

(02:32):
half out of first place in the Al West. If
we want to go down the wildcard road, Texas holds
down that final spot. Minnesota is a game and a half,
as is Detroit behind Texas. Cleveland is two games back,
Baltimore is three, Toronto is three and a half and
a half, four, and then you get to Seattle at four.

(02:55):
I brought this up yesterday. If we include Texas, there's one, two, three, four, five.
I have six teams I head of Seattle. Let's include Seattle.
There are seven teams for one spot, battling for one spot. Yeah,
so on the surface, it appears you could hit the

(03:15):
switch and and you could be in the playoffs, like
you could like have a great week and you're there.
Not necessarily, you gotta hope some other. It's not just
one team you hope scuffles. It's a bunch of teams
along the way. I'm gonna ask you just the kind
of the week we brought this up yesterday, What hope

(03:35):
do you have? Any hope? Strong hope? Is it fading?

Speaker 2 (03:41):
You know the phrase that we always use route to
be wrong. Yeah, I'm rooting to be wrong right now. Okay,
like my my head's showing me and then nothing's proving
to me at this point that this team is capable
of going out. I'm past the point of saying, all right,
we just got to get hot for one week, got
to get hot for a week and a half, two nights, whatever, right,
show me that. But that's even on the table at

(04:01):
this point. Win a series like what is? I want
to know their series record in the second half of
the season. It's gotta be just terrible. Like I don't
I can't remember the last time the Mariners won three
series in a row. Uh, maybe not at all this season.
So talk about going on this big stretch of just

(04:23):
going on an absolute heater. Show me that that's even
like a possibility for this team. First, right, if we're
talking and Chris always says this process versus results. Right,
Usually if you do the right process, the results come
after that, right, It's instead of the inverse. So you
got to start doing the right things first before that
stuff happens. And I haven't seen even that first step.

(04:45):
So again we're on August eleventh here. Yes, you could
say they're still in it, and they just they're what
four and a half out of the AL West. I
still think it's division or bust personally because of how
agree there's just there's too many teams that are in
that spot. I know you technically are less games out
of first, but you have to jump more teams and
you have to have more go your way and stuff

(05:06):
like that. So for me, I don't think this. Chuck
mentioned it today and he's been as adamant that this
team is still going to do it. There's still the
most talented team in the AL West. Joe Shean said
the same thing. We'll talk to him later today as well.
This is the I've been a little bit more on
the pessimism side for a while now, but I'm starting.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
To get really worried that this team's going to miss
the playoffs, like really.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Worried fifteen, twenty one and two in series this year.
There's a series records if you're looking at that. The
last series win obviously was the Minnesota series when they
won two of three. Before that, San Francisco, No, San
Francisco they won two of three. Texas they well, non

(05:53):
Texas they won one. I'm just trying to find, like
I'm going back to trying to find when what you said,
when's the last time they won how many series.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
In the series in a row?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Because in their eight game winning streak, that was two
series or like two and a half series or something
like that.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Angels Toronto they won, So that's two series in a row. Yes,
Angels in Toronto. That was end of June, early July.
I'm just we're producing. I'm doing this on the air,
but I think it's I think it's worthwhile because it's
an interesting dynamic that you just brought up. For them
to win three series in a row, has it happened
this year?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
What was there? What was there?

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Eight game winning streak late May early June.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Right, Yeah, it was Athletics Arizona, Yes, Mets, I think
they did win so Athletics they swept Arizona they swept
two three, and then the Mets and they won two
of three they went. So that's three straight series right there.
That was the last time. So yeah, yeah, early years
three straight series.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
And even before that, I think they've done it once
this year, which is crazy to think about because that's
not like this in the same feet winning three straight
series in a row, right, That's not like, oh my god,
they need to go on a fourteen game winning streak, right,
that's not what we're talking about here, right, talking about
playing a.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Good stretch, two three week stretch of good baseball.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yeah, because I was just looking back Saint Louis, Minnesota.
But they lost the previous series to, of all teams,
the Athletics, right, Houston. Yeah, but they lost the previous series. Yeah,
So it's happened once. Happened once this season, and it
was during the eight game winning streak, which was the
season high as well, exactly. So yeah, what are the
what's the likelihood they're going to have three straight series
wins against the teams that they're playing in the next

(07:25):
month or so? Not not highly likely.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I love how this framing of like, you know, you
can look at it too if you want to be
a positive fan, like, hey, the good teams that will
bring out the best in them, right, right, and then
or you can look at it as all right, in September,
they play a bunch of terrible teams, so they should
be able to beat up on them, right. But it's again,
I'm I am so past the point of looking at

(07:48):
who they're playing against. This team is talented enough to
win almost any baseball game they play.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Do we feel like Cal's heating up?

Speaker 5 (07:55):
No?

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Okay, good, because I'm glad you said that. I know,
I'm glad you say that for this reason, because I
keep hearing people say that. Well, he was four for
twenty seven in the homestand he was four for twenty seven.
That's a one forty eight average. It's lower than his
season half, which is hard to do when you're hitting
one sixty one. Yeah, right, I mean that's it's And

(08:19):
I brought this up yesterday, anders like people are all
over cold Emerson right, like, you know, hey, he should
be sent down. He's not helping him. Cold Emerson is
hitting thirty five points higher than Cal Rawley. He's got
four fewer home runs in about half the played appearances.
I mean, like, go through the list. I'm not saying

(08:39):
cold Emerson's ripping it up by any means, but I'm
going to point to this guy until he turns it around.
I'm sorry, you know what, I'm just doing it. I'm done.
Cal Rawley is killing this baseball team.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
If he was anyone else, literally any other name on
this team and didn't hit sixty home runs last year,
will he'd be either bench or sent down at this point.
Maybe Julio is about it that would also be allowed
to go through this.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, Naylor's not going anywhere, but.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
He's not literally anyone else.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
The you know, Nate brought it up yesterday. Let's also
be honest with ourselves as to what happened last year
for them to get to the postseason. The aforementioned cal
Rawley had to have a historic season for you to
get there, and you also made two editions of the
trade deadline that were key cogs to help you get

(09:27):
there as well, in Naylor and Geno. You don't have
any of those things going for you this year. None
of those things going for you. You still have one
thing going for you outside of Roade Brian Wu. Your
pitching staff's been pretty damn good. They give you a
chance to win pretty much every night your starters do.
It's true, right, like, they gave you a chance to win. Hell,
I'd say even the other day. This is one kind

(09:48):
of made me just sideways. Like if you want to
believe in momentum, good for you. I don't know if
it exists. Bases loaded, nobody out, Kevin Arrow up. They
get out of that. In the first inning against Tampa
on Sunday, take a one nothing lead in the bottom
of the first right, you should be going. You canna
score again. You lose four to one. They are a

(10:10):
lifeless team. Yeah, what was what did Chris call them?
Oh he's going back to his notes. I wrote it
down yesterday. A joyless suck factory. I love that joyless
suck factory.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Oh that's good. That's really good.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Really okay, I liked it. It's good night. All right,
let's do this. Let's take get some joy. Let's get
some joy. Dave Samms, he always puts you in a
smiley mood. I need to Simsey joint just coming up next.

Speaker 6 (10:44):
Now back to Ian Furness on your Home for the Huskies,
Crack It and the Twelfth Man brought to you by
Seattle's closest snow called Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
All right, welcome back in sports ready and three point
three kJ RFM on this Tuesday afternoon. The Yankees Mariners
road trips starts tonight in the Big Apple, the Bronx
for the Mariners who are trying to find something to
turn things around. And I'm joined right now in the
Beacon Plumbing Hotline. I call this guy a friend. He
touched his base every now and then and see how
things are going in Seattle. And I greatly appreciate that

(11:20):
I miss him massively. I know many Mariner fans do
as well. Former voice of the Mariner's Voice of the
Yankees now Dave Simms joins us on the phone. How
are you, my friend?

Speaker 7 (11:30):
And I'm doing great man. Good to hear your voice
and look forward to I spend us some time with
you here.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
I appreciate. All right, Well, let's let's get to I
want to start on a better note for a second,
and I'm gonna get I want over the weekend, the
Mariners had their fiftieth anniversary celebration. As you know, they
honor players and and others from the past. You were
here for was it seventeen years sixteen, seventeen years eight?

Speaker 7 (11:56):
Yeah, eighteen seasons? Oh seven to twenty four? Yeah, inclosive,
that's eighteen.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Seasons, eighteen seasons, and you you were here for some
great moments, including a perfect game by Felix. I didn't
get a chance on Monday to talk about him much.
He's one of my favorite, if not my favorite Mariner
of all time. Caught his compete level and everything about it.
You called that perfect game. What was it about Felix?

(12:21):
It just separates him and why he's probably going end
up in Cooperstown someday.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
Well, one of the.

Speaker 7 (12:26):
Things you just mentioned the Brebeus is his ability to
compete at the highest level against the best players in
the game, and knowing that, you know, during his time,
he was not going to get Halatia's run support, so
he knew if he had to protect one or two
or three run leg he had to.

Speaker 5 (12:44):
I mean, it was a parative that he had to
have his best stuff.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
He had to be totally focused, concentrated to know what
his game plan is and execute it. And he did
such a good job during his peak years. It was amazing.
And I know, I know Radio set. I think she
Andre used to play Sunshine.

Speaker 5 (13:02):
And lolly Pops by Leslie Gore every fifth.

Speaker 7 (13:05):
Day when when Felix's and it was true because you know,
there were some years there that was the only thing
worth you know, every.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
Five days, you knew what you wanted to do.

Speaker 7 (13:13):
You're gonna watch at least the beginning, middle, or end,
if not all of of a Felix start. I mean,
he was that influential, and it was a guy that
you know, made a name for himself in Major League Baseball.
And I remember hearing from guys I know in New York. Hey, Man,
when you're trading this Felix, I said, we'll give us
Robbie Canoll and somebody else. Then it turned out we
wound up getting Robbie Cano.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
But anyway, Uh, he was. He was great. You would
have loved it. He was in the booth on Friday,
I think it was, and just just Felix all the
way through. Man as cool as the other side of
the pillar was Stuart Scott.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Great.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Stuart Scott would say, just as he just oozed it
had this one other thing I want to touch it
on for the weekend because you worked with him for
all those years. Rick Riz found out at the ceremony.
It was a surprise that he's going to the Marina
Hall of Fame. And I know you've got great respect
for Rizzy. We all love him. Of the greatest human
beings on the planet. What what does Rick Riz mean
to you? And also do you think to this organization?

Speaker 5 (14:06):
Well, first of all, what the hell took him so long? Yeah,
good point, that's the biggest thing.

Speaker 7 (14:11):
It's like, really, come on now, love Rick, good friends.
We talk a lot.

Speaker 8 (14:16):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (14:17):
When I came, you know, I was in O seven,
it was the new guy from the East Coast. Nobody
knew who I was, you know, being one of the
few minorities.

Speaker 5 (14:29):
You know, a few black guys call him. Baseball and
Rick and.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
Dave and Kevin Kremin and Blowers, all those guys are
great and Rick Rick was probably in the forefront. I mean,
everybody knows about the warmth that he exudes and the
passion he has for baseball, passion for the Mariners, passion
for life.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
And uh, he's just he's just a good dude.

Speaker 7 (14:52):
And I called him before the fiftieth, before the big celebrations.
I was just watching about an hour ago, which it
was a fabulous.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
Presentation, and I said, you know, I said, hey.

Speaker 7 (15:05):
You know, I have fun with that. And then I
find out he gets in the Hall of Fame. So
I called him the day that was what Saturday, so
was Sunday. I called him, that's awesome, man, I'm happy
for you.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
And again, what took him so long, it's well deserved.

Speaker 7 (15:19):
And uh, you know, if I cannot try to be
there for all that.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Yeah, I think that would mean a ton to him
to have you there as well. Dave obviously knee House
Camp be here, but Dave Sims joining us now, I
think Kevin you there, and you know, I'm glad he
gave a shout out to Kevin Kremen on Saturday too.
That was awesome. Happy, Yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Yeah that real quick.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
I told him.

Speaker 7 (15:41):
I said, that was the right thing to do. And
I know you didn't have to you didn't have to
think hard about it. And I called Kevin, I said,
I was so happy that they gave you a pop.

Speaker 8 (15:48):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
You know during the ceremony, that.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Was a couple of guys seeing Rick Griffin get get
to honored or at least be out there the longtime trainer,
one of the good dude. What's taking a good dude?
Good dudes out there? I mean some this organization has
had great dudes over the years. This organization also has
never won a Pennant Dave. And we had high expectations
this season. My goodness, this is the year in the
American League? Is it not wide open? What's going on?
I mean, this is just I want you to handicap

(16:12):
the American League for me right now, if nothing else.
It's crazy.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
I take it back to spring training four going conclusion,
I had the Mariners inked in as division champions.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Didn't even didn't have to think.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Twice about it, given that they were eight outs away
from the series. They had a lot of guys back
with a half here and there, pitching solid, and you know,
get a couple of bats, get going, and I thought,
you know, they're gonna win this.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
So believe me from Afar from three.

Speaker 7 (16:36):
Thousand miles away, I'm as shocked as you guys are
that it's not happening.

Speaker 5 (16:42):
And man, it's really disappointing.

Speaker 7 (16:47):
And last year it was fun because you know, we
made the playoffs here in New York and then wound
up getting Toronto. Did everything right and we didn't do
a lot of things wrong, but they did everything right.
But I was hoping it was going to be in
Alcs the Yankees in Americas, which would have been just
mind blowing for me, and it didn't happen. So I
was hoping for it again, you know, for this year.

(17:09):
And right now I see their schedule. They just they
just got swept by the rage, right yep? Was that
a sweep yep? And it come to our place. Then
they go to Houston, then they go to Milwaukee, then
come home for the Cubs, and come home for the Phillies.
This is not a good time to be playing some
bad baseball in a weak division and an American league.
Get that it's not up to, you know, its usual strength.

(17:30):
It's a bad run for right here, and you know
we're going to see what happens.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
I want to get to your team in a second.
I want to ask you something. You've been around this
game for a long time. One of the things I
always appreciated when listened to you on the calls here
TV or radio was you had a great appreciation for
the history of the game. I set that up with this.
In the history of the game, we haven't ever really
seen many drop offs like we have with cal Rawley

(17:56):
this year. You're talking to guys in baseball. If you
knew the answer, Davey, you would probably you know, pass
it along and help him out maybe, but no doubt
how surprising is his drop off and how historical is
it as well?

Speaker 5 (18:09):
It's checked both boxes. Man.

Speaker 7 (18:11):
I got guys coming up to me, you know, and
when we're traveling on the country and yo, my man,
and then they.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
Hold her hands up, what's up with your boy back
in Seattle? To catch it, big dumper?

Speaker 4 (18:20):
What is up?

Speaker 7 (18:21):
I get that all the time. I got one guy,
and you know, I got multiple guys. Got him in
fantasy like he's freaking killing me, dude, what it would
come on, man.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
Help me out here.

Speaker 9 (18:29):
They're freaking killing me.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
So I don't know what to tell you. Man, I
didn't expect this.

Speaker 7 (18:33):
I know that what he had he miss what four
or five weeks with the oblique you know, the WBC.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
Isn't the curse of the WBC.

Speaker 7 (18:40):
Again or the phrase me famous by the guy I
succeeded here?

Speaker 5 (18:47):
John de late John Sterling. That's baseball, Susan.

Speaker 7 (18:49):
I mean, that kind of stuff happens, man, but this
is this is on maybe the largest scale I've ever seen.
When you're talking about a guy hit sixty plus home
runs and comes back and he's hitting the last I
look at you said, like a buck sixty three. I mean,
that's you know, from a just from a human being standpoint,
it's painful to even talk about, let alone who it
doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Who you're rooting for. It's like you wouldn't push that
on anybody.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
One of the things, Dave, we've been talking about here,
it just seems like there's the clubhouse, the the aura
around the team. It's just it looks like some guys
that are, you know, almost waiting for it to end,
they can't figure it out that well, how and how
important is that in baseball? Like it's such an individual
sport you're trying to succeed. But it just feels that's

(19:35):
what we're seeing right now.

Speaker 7 (19:36):
Yeah, you know, you know Aaron Boone always talks about
whether you're up or whether we're up or down. Yanks
are head their ups and down. And you think we
were one hundred games under.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
Five hundred, we got the six best record in baseball.

Speaker 7 (19:48):
But it's the one hundred and sixty two and and
it's a grind and.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
You got it. You just got to maintain.

Speaker 7 (19:55):
You can't get Seriously, it's a cliche, but I know
from when I hear friends calling me and they're in
guy's life young, you know Yankee fans.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
Tomorrow, I get guys around the country calling.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Me, what is going on?

Speaker 5 (20:10):
Killing me? And you just got to maintain.

Speaker 7 (20:14):
You got to you just can't get too high again,
can't get too low. And then you got to pick
each other up. And it's really important. And the fact,
you know, team chemistry.

Speaker 10 (20:24):
I know some people pooh pull it, but you need
to have strong leadership and you know somebody's not somebody's
not if you will efforting, uh, you need to grab
somebody by the throat, by the throat.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
We were in Philly a couple of weeks ago Don
Larry Bowl.

Speaker 7 (20:39):
You know baseball man, if there ever was one, A
lot of respect for Larry has been around for.

Speaker 5 (20:43):
Every for years. He has done everything.

Speaker 7 (20:45):
And he said, hey, one time I didn't get a
bunt down to move a guy over with you know
nobody out running second.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
I didn't get the bunt down or hit to the
right side to move him over.

Speaker 7 (20:53):
So I come back to the Doug apt and Steve
Carlton Red need a riot act right in front of everybody,
says you need so you need dudes, You need some
kind of strengthen character guy, somebody who has to play on,
like a John Wayne type, and if necessary, you got to.
You gotta go off from people. And whether it be
a nice, quiet, subtle go off, and Aaron Judge generally
does it with a you know, with a soft voice

(21:16):
but a firm determination when he's you know, communicating with you, like.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
Hey, let's pick this up, let's go, come on, we
got we're better than this, let's go and that you
need that. And I tell you what I know.

Speaker 7 (21:26):
Obviously, I'm not to marry the book that I'm bold
in the clubhouse. I have no idea what's going on there,
but it'd be nice. It sounds like from what you're
based on your question, it sounds like they could use
somebody like that, like, hey, boys, pick it up, let's
go come up and say that more than once too.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Well, and yeah, and you know, people kind of assume
it would be cal he's struggling, so maybe he doesn't
feel comfortable with that. I don't know if that, I
don't know if that's in his personality or not. I
think it might be, but you know, he's struggling.

Speaker 7 (21:52):
So I don't agree I'm talking about I think you
and I are on the same page.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
Yeah, I mean, wonderful guy. That's not his nature.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
He's you know, he's sneaky, funny, he's very smart, but
he's not a guy that's you know, like I don't.

Speaker 5 (22:06):
I don't.

Speaker 7 (22:06):
I don't remember seeing him as a big follow me,
following me boys kind of guy.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
No, I think miss he missed Gino. They missed Gino. Honestly,
they missed Gino. It's just it's they missed Gino. And
and you know, there's a lot of people here questioning
the manager and everything else. But the bottom line is
your here's the thing, David. Your team's a great example
of this. Your best players have to be your best players,
and then if someone's out, then somebody else has to

(22:33):
pick him up. Aaron Judges only played if I would
have told people, hey, Aaron Judges, we're gonna get to
mid October. Aaron Judge will played less than sixty games
he'll he'll have seventeen home runs. That's it. Well, people, well,
Yankees must be in big trouble. No, they're fourteen games
above five hundred. Ben Rice has been fantastic. I mean,
but that's but this's is some of the parts. So
so who is it Ben Rice? And who has picked

(22:54):
this team up?

Speaker 7 (22:56):
Well, I think it's it's it's a little bit of everything.
I mean, you got Ben Rice is a quiet kid too,
but boy, he plays with unbelievable determination and work.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
Eth me.

Speaker 7 (23:06):
Uh, Paul Goldsman, I would say, is the guy it's
see it really is the E. F. Hutton commercial come
to life. If he's in the line, if he's on
the field that day and a picture maybe having a
hard time, he's usually usually no more than the second
guy to the mound. To give the guy a moment,
pack him, pick him up, give him, you know, a
little you know key phrase like you know, Caddy, come up,

(23:29):
put a good put a swing on it, you know,
wonder these kind of deals and Goldie. Goldie has been invaluable. Uh,
I'm so glad he came back. He's probably going to
go to the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 8 (23:39):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (23:39):
He started out the season and they then he wrote
some pine and then there was with the injury started
to mount up.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
He was in pretty much every day and was just thriving.
Matter of fact, there was a time before Judge went
down they.

Speaker 7 (23:51):
Were a great one two punch and then Rice added
on and then you know we're scoring runs like crazy.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
So now we was stanton.

Speaker 7 (23:57):
We lose Judge, but Goldie and he as a pinch hitter.
They use me against left handers because he can hit
left handers. But I would say, he's he's he's the
he's the voice for sure.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
How's what's thereon Judge's status? What's uh? What's the prognosis
for him?

Speaker 5 (24:11):
They're not telling us a heck of a lot.

Speaker 7 (24:14):
The good news last week was that he's been able
to start getting in his running in terms of upper
body and baseball activities. That's still to come. We got
something like forty four games left. I'm thinking, my basically,
this is just me my best case scenario. He comes
back for the last twenty five thirty and whatever he

(24:36):
whatever he can add. I don't expect him to be
prime Aaron Judge, but just his presence in the lineup,
and you know he can take you larger pretty much
in any time.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
And we get it.

Speaker 7 (24:45):
You know, with Bellinger coming back, he was just starting
to rap up and start hitting again. He should be
back in the next yeah, I want to say next
ten days or so. So that's going to be a
big boost. And we brought this kid up, the Lombard kid,
who is Wow, he's off a ridiculous start. I mean,
he looks like he's played shortstop since he was two.
I mean, you know, obviously he grew up in the

(25:07):
baseball family, baseball dynamics, you're there. He's got the arm, he's.

Speaker 5 (25:10):
Got the footwork, he's a good soccer player.

Speaker 7 (25:13):
Schultzel pop going the opposite field and the second home
run hit a home run, and he had he turned
a double play, going into the hole, reaching across his
body and throwing the seed to jazzism to get the
double play started. I've never been so jacked at my
life watching a double plass six four to three double play,
because you know, Anthony Bolpi's scuffled, is the plate way

(25:35):
of saying. In the kind of year he's had and
they've sent him back, and Kabbyerra has had his had
a lot of good moments that Cabby's been really good
for us. But having Lombard here, I mean, I think
he can ink him in. For everything being equal, he's
gonna be here for ten to fifteen years.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
Don't say Jeter.

Speaker 7 (25:50):
Don't point anybody to say time with Jeter. You don't
got a lot of time for that. But he he
looks like he's got ten fifteen years written all over.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Daveson for a couple of moments, joining his voice, the
Yankees form voice of the Mariners, Joining us here on
the Beacon Public Hotline, he infinness with you, all right,
just as we look overall, tell me about the boss.
This is gonna pay you as a New York guy.
Tell me about the Boston Red Sox plus eighty four
run differential. They have been on a heater for a
couple of months now. What is going on is managerial change?

Speaker 11 (26:18):
Is that it?

Speaker 7 (26:20):
You know?

Speaker 5 (26:20):
They did? They're good players.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
They got some good players and they just came to life.
I think, just like you know, like in Philly Manning,
he's not a hollering screen guy. They got good players
and things came around, and the same thing up there, man,
and it all happened at once. Everybody at the same
time and give the Yankees credit or discredit. They swept
our butts up there in four games late June, and
that's what got them going.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
And they you know we were leaving.

Speaker 7 (26:46):
We're still leaving too many guys on base We still
had number one. We're number one in e ra A
in baseball, number two in home runs. But you know,
the three results, that's what we see with the major
and we just steal basis and the socks, you name it.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
They're doing it in this stretch there.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
And Chapman's been phenomenal coming out of the book that
closing things now and the totally get a big at
most of the kid that left handed they got, he
got now he's right hand. Anyway, he's been phenomenal. I mean,
you name you name one of their pictures and they've
been pretty and they've been aces. And right now our
three guys are we got five pictures, five starters. Ryan

(27:25):
Weathers and Will Warren are four and five are one,
two and three not necessarily in disorder, you know, are
freed Cole and Schlittler and Rod Dondrey to come back,
and you know he'll be piggybacking our pitching right now.

Speaker 5 (27:38):
Sensational.

Speaker 7 (27:39):
It's a crime dad only scoring one, two and three
runs a game. And I said, well, I've seen this
movie before. So that's where the Yankees are right now,
getting ready for the series.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
With the Marinis.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
What would you tell Marender fans and maybe even anybody
in the American League? That's kind of there's this muddled
miss mushy middle Dave with the the wildcard. I mean,
there's basically six teams battling for one wildcard spot. You've
been doing this for a while. Forty three games left
to go. Mariners are three and a half out of
the wildcard. There are four out of the of the division.
But the three and a half wildcards sounds not too bad,

(28:15):
but there's four teams in between them. Would what would
you tell marinor fans are there is there still reason
to have hope?

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (28:23):
I'm always you know, I drive my wife crazy with this,
but I'm always a half glass half as.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
You are, and I think you the season.

Speaker 7 (28:30):
The season is so whacked in the American League, and
we saw Boston get hot, and obviously they're not going
to play what it was at eight hundred and eight
fifty ball to play that ain't going to continue from
now to September twenty seventh, and somebody else may get hot. Hey, obviously,
I hope it's us, but I don't think it'll be Toronto.
That's not their year. But to Troid, I talked to
aj Hinch last week after the Scooball training. He said, Hey,

(28:53):
we have enough offense to be a pain in the
ass coming down to stretch. They have a week September schedule.
They had a good run last year, faded in September,
came back and beat Cleveland in the playoffs, and then
you know, played out your way. So I don't know
if i'd want to discount that. I don't want to
discount too many teams in the division in the Central,
which is I think the Weeks said the bunch, the

(29:14):
Minnesota's playing a little bit better and Buxton's out. You
know you got us in the in the East. At
Tampa Bay, they do a ton right man. TA can
play small ball.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Three big guys can hit it out of the yard
to pitch like crazy. The relief courp is very good.
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
I think we they have a winning record against us
and we still have them for four games of our
place at the last. I believe that is the Yeah,
the last four games of the season. We played Boston
four games the last weekend in September, so we had
some huge, huge games coming up.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
Man, it's uh, it's going to be interesting.

Speaker 7 (29:54):
So I wouldn't. I don't discount anybody. You know, maybe
September one I can start, you know, I can, you know,
nine ten years get out of here. You know, somebody
will tap out. But I don't put anything past any
of these things.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
Cleveland can get hot. I'm looking at Cleveland, you know,
I'm not worried about Kansas City. Those guys.

Speaker 7 (30:13):
So that's what we're looking at. Hat a white Sox
not counting them out. So you know, the American leagues
up for grabs. So and maybe you know, at some point,
maybe the hitting starts to emerge with the Mariners and
make it make them one.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
There's still time. Hey hey again.

Speaker 7 (30:28):
And as you heard me say many times, I grew
up in Philly nineteen sixty four, up six and a
half with twelve to play, and so he didn't win
the Pennant.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
I love your glass half full, by the way, I
always have, always appreciate it. We need that out here.
In Seattle, where it's been fifty years without a World
Series appearance.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
And we need that.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
We need that, my friend, maybe just take it easy,
have your guys take it easy on our base, our
little baseball team out there this week.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
Yeah, I can't guarantee, no.

Speaker 11 (30:55):
I know.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Hey, two things. One, great to hear your voice. Ippreciate
carming out some time. Number Two, it's been a couple
of years, but I told you this at the time. Congratulations.
Such a cool deal for you to be doing those
games back there for that franchise. I know it's awesome
for you. I know it's a dream in so many ways,
and I'm happy for you, my friends. So thanks for
popping on.

Speaker 7 (31:15):
To Yeah, thanks man, I appreciate it all the best there,
all the boys there at the station. And hey, I
love you Seattle, love the Pacific Northwest. I got my
son out there too, so I love it even.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
More even better. That's the great Dave Simms. Maybe we'll
talk in October. Wouldn't that be nice for a change
this in October baseball, you have my number. Thanks, that's
Dave Sims. We'll take a break, come back with more.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Pick. Thanks Dave sim Popping on. Get back to some
Mariners here in the next segment, I just real quick,
So Seahawks announced that fullback Robbie Oots has been placed
on season ending injury reserve. You're on the eleventh of August,
so not a good sign at all for Robbie Oots.
Hopefully it's something that's not career ending. I don't Mike

(32:22):
McDonald's did not speak today or is not speaking today.
He did yesterday. I didn't give an update on Oots
the situation, but they put him on season ending IR,
so he's done for the year. That means Britty Russell
is now you're starting fullback. Brock Lampy is your backup
and normally not a position we would spend a lot

(32:44):
of time talking about, except for that's a position that
in this particular offense they do want to use and
they do want to utilize that now they can rotate
some tight ends back there. Nick caller up can play
back there. Salbert can play back there. So there's there's opportunities.
Venette can play if he's on the team, you know,
but and Russell's a converted tight end as well. But

(33:08):
this is is it's a bummer because I know that
they were counting on him this season, not just you know,
just because they this is this is what they want
to do. And watching him early in camp before there's contact,
he looked great. Yeah, but it sounds like it's we're guessing.
We don't know. Everyone's kind of guessing right now that
it's a neck injury because it's isn't that what kept
him out of the Super Bowl last year, NFC championship

(33:31):
game in the Super Bowl, So not not ideal, ladies
and gentlemen, not ideal. And even this weekend, I mean,
I'm just looking through here. Listen, this this Saturday might
be the day that's the poster child for guys like
Softy who hate the preseason. Uh, we'll see what I mean.
He hasn't said officially, he being Mike McDonald what he's

(33:53):
gonna do. But yesterday afterwards we're listening to him. He's
talking and he's like, yeah, you know, I'm not sure,
we're trying to forget what we're gona do with the
quarterback position, then blah blah blah. And I mean, if
I don't think Donald's gonna play, I would I would
be surprised if because if he plays in your starting
offensive lines playing, and I don't think you want to
do that. More importantly, your your running back situation. Gennardian

(34:14):
Price is not gonna play. I can confidently say he's
not practicing, he's not playing, and even if he was
to come back today or tomorrow or whenever, you're not
going to put him out there. If whatever's going on,
even however minor it might be. Halani's not gonna play
because you can ill afford to lose both of those guys. JAKARTI,

(34:38):
you're right, is still banged up, hasn't been practicing. He's
your number four. Emmanuel Wilson Is he's your three. I
mean right now it's Price, Halani Wilson Wright would be
your one, two, three four. That leaves you with Vellus
Jones junior converted wide receiver at times, Justin Jones and TJ. Harden,

(34:59):
who rookies that were just signed recently. Oh you heard
of any of those people only because I'm out there, right,
I know, and and nothing with any of those guys
like last year, Jacardi right even this year, Like when
you watch Practicop, you're like, whoa, Yeah, that dude's got
some little got little juice there.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
No, the easy answer is no. And I can't imagine
you want to put a JSN out there. I can't
imagine you want to put a Cooper Cup out there.
Tory hart Horton no chance coming off an injury, So yeah,
it's it's back and Dallas has already said they're not
playing their starter, so yeah, it's it's backups versus backups.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
So fun.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
If you paid big money for that, good for you.
I still I listen all that out there. I still
like it. I still would rather watch a preseason game
than watch nothing at all.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Football is better than no football.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Yeah, and there's some there are some. I mean, the
depth receivers are battling for one spot. They're kind of
like the they're like the AL wild card is like
six guys battling for one spot. So that'll be kind
of fun. Backup offensive line, which you don't most people
don't care about. But there's some good competition there, but
the backup wide receivers, some depth guys, the secondary guys,
or some battles there with the cornerback position. I mean,

(36:14):
that's why they're going down to the Terry and Arnold route,
because they feel like they need to get somebody. If
they felt even though McDonald said yesterday, I feel great
about my guys, if you really felt that good about
him despite the talent, and the talent's unmistakable with Arnold,
you're not going down that road. You obviously feel like
you get up great. So that's what they're trying to do.
If they feel like this guy can get off and

(36:34):
whatever is going on is not his fault, or he's
innocent and blah blah blah those things. So yeah, there's
a lot happening there this weekend. All right, when we
come back, why won't the Mariners fire Dan Wilson? Well,
one reason given today makes absolutely zero sense. We'll talk
about that next.

Speaker 5 (36:53):
No.

separate them from the final spot in that wildcard race.
Nolan King, claimed off waivers from the Rangers, is going
to go to Tacoma as well. NFL Seahawks running back

(37:20):
full back Robbie Oots out for the season. Placed on
season ending injured reserve today by the Hawks here on
August eleventh. Since it's in training camp before the season starts,
not at the final cut down, he will not be
able to return this year. Big below for the team.
They're left with Brady Russell as there starting running a
full back back up now if they keep him. Brock

(37:40):
Lampy he played for Thomas Hammock who was the running
backs coach. You remember him from Hard Knocks. I'll play
for him at Northern Live bombs for him. Yes, did
Fane really get upset by that? I heard that yesterday? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Really not.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Well? Stick to the w NBA Storm beat the Chicago
Sky last night, snap and eleve the game losing Street eighteen.
NFL Vikings have named Kyler Murray they're starting quarterback over J. J. McCarthy.
The funny thing is he's getting paid is Kyler Murray
thirty million dollars by Arizona getting paid a million by

(38:18):
the He's getting paid a million by like one point
five I guess by Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Better than minimum.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Oh, by the way, firings have happened today, Los Angeles
Angels a fire have fired hitting pitching coach Mike Maddock,
assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott, and bullpen coach Dom Cheaty.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Basically the whole pitching staff.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Yes, weird. Let's get to that next.

Now back to Ian Furness on your Home for the

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Okay, okay, that term want like you never want someone
to get fired. I okay, But do you think he
should be He should be fired? Okay, yes, or he
should resign. Chris Crawford has mentioned this before.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Yeah, I think you know, Chris has said it best
from the start, from our Molly Wap Monday when half
of our Molly whoppers and he'll actually fill in for
me next Monday when I'm off for a day. You know,
he's been very and I think this is an important
thing here because he and he wasn't alone, but he
has been one of the more vocal people about this
from the start. He said they shouldn't have hired him, right,

(39:51):
And I think that was the problem he ran into,
is they hired him, you know, when they hired him
full time, no interroim, tag, nothing, You're just you're the guy.
So when that happened, I mean Chris, and he's been
outamant about that in stell saying, yeah, they shouldn't have
hired him and they shouldn't retain him. And a lot
of people are saying that. So listen, the noise surrounding

(40:12):
Dan Wilson and the Mariners is not going away anytime soon.
There's there's two things I kind of want to hit on.
One is, and this is maybe more of a topic
for tomorrow or the next day. If they were to

(40:34):
turn it around, get to the postseason, have a run
similar to last season, are we really even able to
enjoy that because this has been such an unenjoyable year.
It's just been weird.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
That's the question I was going to bring up to you,
is like, if they for either by other teams being bad,
like really bad, yeah, or figure out a way to
go on a run and they get in at five hundred,
would you feel good about this season just because they
made the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
I mean, I'm just a big fan of getting in
and it doesn't matter what sport you are, I just am.
I think you play a regular season to get to
the postseason. That's why you play it. And I've always
felt that way. I remember when people were screaming from
the mountaintops all over the place, including on this radio station.
Mans is Seahawks need to rebuild, take a step back,

(41:24):
and it makes no sense. Why are they just trying
to get to the postseason. I don't know, because wild
card teams have won super Bowls in the NFL, same thing.
I mean, Vegas was awful last season in the regular
season by most standards. They got to the stand Cup Final.
You want to get in. But this is such a
unique circumstance. We'll kind of table that for tomorrow because

(41:49):
I'm banking on road Brian will getting a win tonight.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
Oh God, are you really going to keep just being
like it has to end? Eventually?

Speaker 1 (41:56):
It has to It has to lost at Yankee Stadium.
I don't know, man, I was just curious. Davish wrote
this piece today in the Times. I'm just I'm trying
to wrap my arms around it. You know, Ryan and
Daniel Kramer from MLB dot com and Adam Jude to

(42:19):
a certain extent, Booth. Those guys are around in the
clubhouse and they have a better handle on things in
any of us. It's frankly, what used to really piss
me off when I was with the Seahawks every week
and on the road and in locker rooms, and I'd
have people tell me things and they'd be like, oh,
this is I said, you have no idea, man, You're
not there. You have no idea, you know. I referenced

(42:42):
off in the last last game in Arizona in twenty
twenty three, the dysfunction going on. I remember people were
saying they were just smoking cigars to celebrate Julian loves No. Well,
that's what he told everybody after the fact. That had
nothing to do with it. There's that's not what was
being told to us in the locker room anyway, And
that was just the me that And there's another couple
of years in there, like this twenty seventeen season I

(43:03):
think was massively dysfunctional, and there's this you know, I like,
you have a better feel, and so I try, Ryan
and those guys have a good feel. But this thing
he wrote today, this just drives me nuts because I
think this is the problem firing Wilson. I'm quoting from
his story. Firing Wilson, particularly mid season might be popular
with fans, but it would be something more than an

(43:25):
uncomfortable situation for everyone else involved. He's beloved within the organization,
including the ownership group and the players. He has a
close bond with several players, including specifically Raleigh, building relations
with them as long as they climb the minor league
ranks right or wrong. He's given them his trust to
hold themselves to standard set. So you're not going to

(43:46):
fire him because he's got strong relationships with players who
by and large are all underperforming this year. Yes, you
hired him because of those relationships and to get these
guys going because they didn't like the heavy hand apparently

(44:07):
of Scott's service makes sense for that for me? Well,
makes sense of that for me, please, because that's exactly
why you do fire him, because you need to be
a little more uncomfortable, because right now you're too damn comfortable.
You're way too comfortable if you're a lot of these
core guys that are just kind of going through the motions. Yeah,

(44:29):
you're just way too comfortable.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
Yeah, I can't make sense of that, And I'm with you.
I think that would be a reason to move on
from him, if anything else, because you need something to
change right right. You know, I mentioned this to you before, Like,
I don't think the people that are advocating for Dan
Wilson to be fired think that all of the blame
for this season goes on him. How I don't think

(44:52):
that people think the majority of the blame of this
season goes on his shoulders and what's something that he
has specifically done. However, you look at the situations like Philly,
Boston and to some extent the New York Mets as well,
they are their objective, they're in their thought process and

(45:13):
firing those three managers was not Hey, this guy is
way over a skis.

Speaker 3 (45:17):
They're the reason why we're losing. They're the reason why
we suck.

Speaker 2 (45:20):
It's we have an extremely talented roster and we need
to win this year, and we need to do anything
to make that happen, anything to send a message to them,
anything to get a new voice in there so that
we're not pissing away this entire season. And that's where
I think the Mariners need to lie, because they have
told us multiple times that this season twenty twenty six,

(45:42):
they are trying to go win the World Series, and
especially given what's on the horizon with a possible lockout
next year, I think that should be even more the case.
As things have moved along and has and things are
not turning around, and they're not looking like they're turning
around anytime soon.

Speaker 4 (45:57):
Yeah, I think.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
And maybe part of the issue is who do you
replace him with?

Speaker 5 (46:02):
Right?

Speaker 1 (46:02):
Is it an interrom You put an interrom tag on
a manny acta. I don't think that helps you at
all because it's just more of the same, Right, I mean,
this guy's been here through two managers, so that doesn't
help you, and he lost a clubhouse in Washington.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
It's true.

Speaker 1 (46:15):
So you know that we pump up the tires of
guys like Perry Hill, who's maybe he's a good coach.
His defensive his team's defensively sucks this year. It's horrible.
So does he get if we're going to give him credit,
does he get blame?

Speaker 3 (46:34):
And that's the other part.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
Everyone was giving Dan Wilson credit last year with the
season that they had because he you know, he's a
guy that I think is a really good manager when
things are going well. Yeah, and you can be a
front runner, but anytime you need some sort of a change,
a kick in the butt, like a different approach, he
doesn't tend to get that out of his players very much.

Speaker 1 (46:58):
I just I just find it amazing that the reason
you keep him is because the relationships well, And that's
just like it's that's the exact reason you get rid
of him right now, because it's not working.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
And they need to be sent a message and you
know what, be the message delivered.

Speaker 1 (47:12):
Here's the thing. And let's be honest, you guys as
an organ as players have failed Dan Wilson. And that's
the other part. You have failed Dan Wilson. Dan Wilson
hasn't taken swings. His approach at the plate isn't no no, no, no, no,
you guys are You have failed him, and you failed
him miserably. But I like, I'm want to go back

(47:34):
to what you You know, we talked about like those
who were giving him praise last season, Well, how many
people were really giving him praise? I don't know, maybe
they were, Maybe I missed it. I think I'll go back.
I know this on our Monday show. Big thanks to
shout out to simply Seattle, Molly want Monday malliwat fifteen
at checkout for your discount cone. On our Monday show,

(47:56):
I guarantee you, Andrews if you went back to the archives.
There were a number of times that we discussed how
they're winning in spite of it, in spite of Dan Wilson.
And it wasn't just Bizarroo in the in Game seven,
there were other that happened all the time. Yeah, So

(48:19):
like you can't have it always, you just can't.

Speaker 2 (48:21):
Yeah, And that's I'm going to literally quote my tweet
that I put out talking about this exact same scenario,
because there's two reasons of thought with Dan Wilson. If
do you think he was a big reason for last
year's success, he is also a big reason for this
year's failure. If you or if you think the Mariners
did what they did in spite of Dan last year
and was bailed out by his players and they're not
doing that this year, then he's unable to get more

(48:44):
out of his.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
Players in these situations.

Speaker 5 (48:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
Right, So either one of those can be true. But
you can't say that he was a big reason for
last year's success and then now it's his players that
are failing him.

Speaker 1 (48:58):
It's odd because you would think that, you know, here's
an organization that it does kind of feel like they
really care about, you know, like we're more concerned with
the history, which I just laughable, just absolutely laughable, then
they are about present day winning.

Speaker 11 (49:13):
I e.

Speaker 1 (49:14):
Like, we're not going to fire a legend. You know,
we had to fall out with Jay. We did whatever
we can to bring j back, so we put him
on the broadcast to let him be j and you know,
he can create his own schedule, so he's so he's
part of things for the fiftieth anniversary.

Speaker 3 (49:27):
Speculation of leaving Jeff Nelson off the.

Speaker 1 (49:29):
List, that Jeff Nelson because they haven't ever they haven't
ever mended that fence with Jeff. Kyle Seeger is a
funny one because he's one of your top fifty players
of all time without a doubt, so Nelly should have
been as well. But Kyle was Listen. I know he's
coaching his kid.

Speaker 3 (49:44):
I get that he could have easily been there if
he wanted to.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
He didn't want to be here. He had a falling out,
So you don't want to have a falling out. Dan.
The funny thing is, all of all those personalities we
just discussed, the one guy that probably would have the
ability to forgive forget and is probably the glassiest of
them all is Dan Wilson.

Speaker 3 (50:02):
And that's the thing is it's ruining his legacy. Now,
what's going on now.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
That's the thing that's bad. That's a great point. Dan Wilson,
the great Mariner in the sense of a Hall of
Famer and whatever, helping in the minor league system, doing
all those things, all of a sudden, you know, probably
had a hell of a nice good life going on.
It's thrust into this situation of managing day to day
under the microscope and it's not like and he was

(50:28):
given a team it's good, yes, that is now woefully underachieved.
Yeah I I.

Speaker 4 (50:37):
Oh god.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
They fired Service because he was too heavy handed. They're
going to keep Dan because he's got great relationships with
a bunch of players that are frankly failing him right now, Yes,
failing him and failing him miserably and.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
Honestly, if nothing else, they need to be shown, Hey,
your bad play has reprimands, right, Yeah, you just got
a manager fired. You could talk literally, if they were
to fire Dan Wilson, you could go to cal Rawle
and just be like, was.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
Cora high we thought of in Boston by players extremely high?
And they they said, screw you, we want to win.

Speaker 3 (51:11):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
Check's notes sixty four and fifty four ten above five
World Series of Boston. By the way, a plus eighty
three run differential. Do you know how it wasn't that
long ago the Mariners were plus thirty one. They're minus
nineteen now. The crazy thing is they have the best
run differential in the American League West and they're in
third place.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
At minus nineteen.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
At minus nineteen, Texas is minus thirty and Houston is
minus twenty five. Oh god, they have the best run
differential in the American League West and their third Joshian
joins us.

Speaker 6 (51:46):

Now here's Ian with our weekly baseball fix from Joshian
Joshian dot com The Joshian Newsletter. Third third previews are out.
Look what's up there? Yesterday Part five Seattle Mariners listed
along with their opponent for the next three days, The

(52:33):
New York Yankees. Hello, Joe, how are you?

Speaker 7 (52:37):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (52:37):
You know better than Mariners fans these days?

Speaker 1 (52:40):
Well, we just had our fiftieth anniversary celebration. There was
lots to celebrate, and then they got swept by the
Tampa Bay Race. So that's If that's not the most
Mariner weekend you could ever have, I don't know what is.

Speaker 9 (52:51):
It's a lot of Lenny Milbourne and Floyd Banister.

Speaker 1 (52:54):
And oh god, Floyd Banishers. There's a pull from the past. Yeah,
Mike Parrott, he came out as well, So yeah, there's
Mike's cooler didn't get honored. I some of the most
were upset about that, and they left Jeff Nelson off,
although he leads the his resume was more than good
enough to be in the top fifty. But he made
him mat a few years ago, back in twenty in
two thousand and three, so the pettiness still exists, apparently,

(53:15):
So he was off.

Speaker 9 (53:16):
Probably more remembered as a Yankee too.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
Yeah, but there's a few guys like that, a rod
in some ways, right, probably remember for other places besides here,
you know, there's a lot of Robinson Cano, Adrian was
Beltra on the list, yes, sir, Yeah, Beltray was yeah.

Speaker 5 (53:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (53:30):
Riddy Johnson, I mean he had that great breakout with
the Mariners, but you know he won four straight Sion
Awards with the Diabacks.

Speaker 1 (53:36):
Yeah, that was that was That's the one that's always
going to hurt just because he was I mean, Langston
was really good, but Randy was like the first pitching
superstar here and then he left and then had even
better success elsewhere and Hall of Fame success elsewhere. So
that might be just the story of the organization right there,
showing a nutshell. When's cal gonna go hit seventy home

(53:56):
runs for somebody else? When's Julio get I mean, God,
hopefully those day over and so forth. Yankees in town.
You can go see our friends, the Marriers, but might
as well make your way out tonight, buddy, let's go.

Speaker 9 (54:07):
Not tonight, maybe Thursday.

Speaker 3 (54:09):
Oh there's that game.

Speaker 9 (54:10):
I don't look. It's actually been a big topic here
in the city of last year or so. But Yankee
Stadium is a hard place to watch a game. The
volume is it is absolutely allowed of in any other
park I've been to, and the persistence of it is
greater than any other park I've been to, save maybe
a city. The two New York parks are just not

(54:30):
great if you want to go watch a ball game,
and it's it's frustrating, And like I said, Aaron Judge
apparently wants it that way, and that's one of the
reasons that they do it the way they do. But
it is just it is a hard three hours on
the years.

Speaker 1 (54:43):
Is it canned music or is organ it's mostly canned.

Speaker 4 (54:47):
I mean, they have an organist.

Speaker 9 (54:48):
But what I'm talking about here is the stuff between pitches,
between at bats, even between pitches, you'll get like, you know,
eight seconds of something, and it's just it is very
hard to have a conversation. And part of enjoyment are
going to a game for me is sitting with a
friend and bsing for two and a half hours. That
to me was the experience. And you can't talk to
the person next to you for all the extrainingus noise.

(55:10):
I'm not talking about fans cheering. Fans cheering cheer great
even charge and stuff like that. That's all part of
being at a ballgame. But you know, eight seconds of
some song that I've ever heard of. And I know
I saw an old guy here, but I want you
to trust me when I tell you that. If you
read the coverage of this issue, it's a lot of
twenty somethings saying what the hell's going on here?

Speaker 1 (55:29):
But that is part of the charm of going to
a baseball game. It's just kind of sitting there and
having a conversation as the game goes on, and when
something happens, you stop and you get excited, and then
I mean the downtime I went on Sunday. I went
with my wife and I can't it's been a couple
of years since her and I went to a game together,
but we went Sunday together and we're sitting there and
they had the organists there. It was playing a good

(55:51):
chunk of the time. Maybe it's a Sunday thing. I
don't really know, but and I remember said, I said,
I love the organist, like I just I like the organist,
you know, And and she's like, yeah, I'm the same way.
You know, most of the songs, the walk up songs
I've never heard of because I'm old, so I don't
really care about that kind of stuff. But yeah, I
can see I can relate to it one hundred percent,

(56:11):
you know, because I give me an Oregon dunt dun,
you know stuff like that. I like that in hockey
games too, to be honest with you, and I think
the same organists, but I don't need to have canned
music blaring or you know that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
Is it worse than LA because I remember when the yeah,
good question super loud there.

Speaker 1 (56:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (56:29):
So it's been a few years I've been to a
game at Dodger Stadium. But I would imagine that if
you're describing it that way, it is much the same
I was. I was in Baltimore last month and didn't
seem as bad. I do think this is something, you know,
ole game production. They've only taken on some of the
cadence of the NBA, particularly with like the between pitch stuff,
and I guess I guess they have data that says

(56:52):
this is what people like. But it's just it's it's
chasing me away from the ballpark because it's just it's
not what I want to do for two and a
half three hours. I want to say and a hot
dog and talk and hang out. And I'm not asking
it to be nineteen fifty six, you know, with like
an organist and right, right, But can can we roll
it back to two thousand and six because this is

(57:12):
a fairly the actual volume by which I mean the
loudness has gone up incredibly in the last twenty years,
and even if you just roll that back to two
thousand and six, maybe take out some of the interstitial stuff.
You know, between between endings, you're always going to get
the hat race and something happening on the field and
I had no objection to any of that, but it's
literally the between the first pitch of the inning and

(57:34):
the last pitch of the inning where I think it
just needs to be a lot quieter.

Speaker 1 (57:37):
I figured you weren't going tonight because you don't want
to go see you.

Speaker 9 (57:40):
Oh no, I knew this was coming.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
Road, Brian Wu. Road, Brian Wo's going today. I'm and
what did I just say? Last segment?

Speaker 2 (57:53):
You said you think that he shoves today because eventually
it has has to change.

Speaker 1 (57:58):
Joe keeps telling me it's going to change Tonight's tonight.
It changes against You wrote about the Yankees offense without
Aaron Judge isn't great. This is the night of changes.
Road Brian wol will talk about next week in glowing terms, Joe.

Speaker 9 (58:11):
These are two this should be this is these should
be three very fast games. The way these teams are
hitting right now. You know it's funny. I was on
I was on Davison the Vegas Sports Infinition Gambling focused
Done network earlier today, and I gave out the Yankees
tonight at minus one twin. I don't want to get
too deep into gambling stuff, but basically I gave out

(58:31):
the Yankees to beat the Maritis tonight, and it was
all I could do to not bring up the wo
splitz because the woof splitz don't aren't actually a factor
in this, but it made me look at the woo splitz.
I keep saying the wo splitz.

Speaker 5 (58:42):
It's like a word which I have.

Speaker 9 (58:45):
Apparently, Well, I'm a misplacement numbers here, hang on second, here, oh,
here we go. And here's the big thing I want
to talk about. Like, if you look at Brian wool
on the road, the strikeout rate is about nineteen percent,
which is lower than it normally is seventeen percent. But
the stritcutch of walk issues three point six, which is fantastic.

(59:06):
The big number here, he's allowed a two fourteen batting
average on balls and play at home. Yeah, he's allowed
a three point fifty two market road. Now, I can
make an argument that that there should be a split
there because T Mobile isn't a great park to hit,
But one hundred and forty points that's not a skill
There's no skill set being reflected here.

Speaker 7 (59:23):
So I get it.

Speaker 9 (59:25):
We've had some fun with it. I did give out
the Yankees to beat the Mariners tonight, but I think this.
If you look at Brian Wu going forward from here,
there would be no reason to expect in debt anything
other than a normal home road split.

Speaker 1 (59:38):
I'm wondering if with Wu tonight or any time on
the road, I wonder if it's got to the point
where it's in his head right and it's just it
and the game is so finite, like you miss by
half an inch or an inch on the plate, and
all of a sudden the guy barrels one up, thanks
for coming, It's gone. And I wonder in the back
of his mind, Joe, the way for it, the human

(01:00:00):
elements coming into play here with him? Because you don't
think so.

Speaker 9 (01:00:05):
I'm only because I tend to think of these guys
as much mentally stronger than most. And I say that
because they're thirty times twenty six, seven hundred and eighty
baseball players in the major leagues. Yes, we're gonna include
the angels in that for the moment, and like to
get to be one of those seven hundred and eighty guys,

(01:00:26):
you have to be so mentally strong just to get
to that point. Yeah, that I think all of the
guys you might be affected by a weird home road
split simply get washed out along the way high school, college,
low miners, high miners, and we're just I think, I
just think all of the guys in the majors are
incredibly mentally tough. And yeah, I'm sure there are exceptions,
but I don't think Brian lu who was a perfectly

(01:00:48):
good pitcher on the road last year, is going to
go to the mountain. I thinking, oh my god, I'm
wearing these are gray uniforms. Oh my god, I can't
pitch in gray uniforms.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
Well, let's hope not. They need to win, they need
a series of Josi and Joshian newsletter joining us. Let's
you wrote about the marriage and the third third and
one of the big hot topics of conversation here, obviously
is is Dan Wilson and another story written in the
paper today here about it. They're not going to get
rid of it doesn't sound like this, this is why
you don't and all those things. I thought you just

(01:01:20):
said it well though, like you know, it's not on Depoto,
it's not on Wilson. And I've said this a lot
this year. Andrews can vouch at some point it's on
the players. Like none of those guys can can control
the fact that Cal's been awful, Naylor is a singles hitter,
and Hulio has just been okay, Like right, I mean,
that's the issue.

Speaker 9 (01:01:42):
If you look at the three guys atop this roster,
and even conceided that Naylor was only there for two
months last year, they combined for sixteen war sixteen Baseball
reference war last year, and this year it's six six
Even that say, it's three basically, and that's the difference

(01:02:04):
between running away from the West and basically being where
they are right now. And even ticket just look at
preseason projections. If you add those three guys up, you
look at Pakoda or Zips or any of the projection system,
they were projected to be maybe twelve to thirteen wins combined.
So you're talking about those three guys being ten more
worse than you would have expected. And again, that's the
difference between where they are and leading the division. So look,

(01:02:26):
I don't think Dan Wilson's that good at his job,
and certainly I can't believe Dan Wilson for these three
guys falling off the cliff. And we talked about this
at the trade deadline. Where how do you improve this roster.
You're not benching cal Rally, You're not benching Josh Naylor
and all of the other spots on the roster were
basically filled with the guys who were actually playing well,

(01:02:46):
or in case Donovan coming off of injury, or I mean,
it was an impossible task I think for Jerry Depoto,
and they just need their best players to play better.
It is very unusual for the core of a raw
to go south like this. I'm hard for us to come.
Players have done this, have completely had off years and

(01:03:06):
been terrible. But for the three best guys on the roster,
the guys who were supposed to be the anchor that
you know, it was funny. I looked the other day
and they were hitting five six, eight after started the
year hitting two, three, four, And I was like, just,
I mean, it's just it's a little shocking to see
cow Rally in the eight spot after the year he
had his career he's had, after the year he had
last year. But Mike Petriello posted his splits because I

(01:03:28):
had said when he went on the IL in May
he just needs to reset. He had the longest year
of his career in twenty twenty five. Then he came
to camp early to play in the World Baseball Classic,
and I figured he was just exhausted. And basically he's
hit just as badly before and after the IL trip,
So that wasn't the solution either. But yeah, I just
it's hard because we always want to blame somebody, right,

(01:03:48):
but we don't want to blame our favorites. Nobody wants
to blame cal Rally. We love cal Rally. It's sixty
homers last year, he signed a Contract's gonna keep then
Seattle for forever. Josh Baylor came over and was this
cuddly guy who's one hundred bases, you know at the
end of the regular season, and you know, and Julio
is just in the homegrown store form. You don't want
to be mad at these guys. But the reason the

(01:04:08):
narrative season has gone sideways is those three guys. And
I'm loving Julio in only because loss. He hasn't had
a great defensive year. He's gonna end up with maybe
four war which is, you know, two wins less than
he would expect from him. That's not entirely fair because
Rally and Naylor have been replacedment level players.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Jo she enjoys Joshi and newsletter anders you got something
for him?

Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
Yeah, I mean when you look at like you said,
it happens to players individually where they have this fall
off a cliff sort of season, But when you have
your entire core, as you mentioned, how rare it is.
I guess the reasoning is, why can you look to
someone like a manager or at least a clubhouse presence
as to maybe why that's happening.

Speaker 9 (01:04:48):
I mean, I think if you want to say, well,
this must be Dan Wilson, I think you've also got
to explain why. You know, Cole Young is broken out
this year, and the pitchers have all been good, and
guys like dominic Can's own and Luke Only have been
really good contributors, even JP Crawford when he was healthy.
Obviously we negotiated his defense, but yeah, he was getting
on base for a while there, and you know he
didn't that before we win the IL. But like, I

(01:05:10):
don't think you can isolate and say, well, Wilson has
been bad for these three guys this year, when last
year he wasn't bad for those guys. I think it's
really threading a needle to say it's Wilson, and you know,
eventually he will not have the job anymore, and maybe
somebody will come out and we'll get that, you know,
the the post mortem that says, well, actually, Dan Wilson
was running around the clubhouse clipping guys with a with

(01:05:31):
a crowbar, and you know that'll be a whole different story.
But I don't I have a hard time looking at
Wilson with the players who have played well this year
and saying, no, these three players have stucked because of
Dan Wilson.

Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Yeah, it's it's just a it's a head scratch. Helped
me out here with Cole Young real quick. I wanna
move on some of the things. But I was a
little curious. You said, he's he leads the AL on
defensive run save, but stat cast doesn't like his defense.
Helped me out with that.

Speaker 9 (01:05:56):
Yeah, and this goes to just the different ways the
different systems. Defensive run Saved, which is by Sports Infro
Solutions is a whole bunch of guys looking at video
and saying he did this, He did this, and it
measures everything. It's not just a range base, it's you know,
did he knock down the ball and keep it in
the infield? With a runner on second to keep the
runner from coming all the way around to score. There
are things like that relayless. It is a visual basis,

(01:06:17):
a visual scouting. Stat cast is just an outs above
average is produced by stat cast, which is all those
cameras at the ballpark that give us all that cool
information about spin rate and batspeed. While it's also trained
on the fielders and it's using their systems, which is okay.
It's not just measuring did the guy get to the
ball or not. It's taking his starting position in the

(01:06:39):
velocity and angle of the ball and saying, you know,
what would a normal defender do here? And did he do?
Make the player not? So it is an automated system
that uses formulating to get to an answer. It's two
completely different approaches, and I like to use both. I
don't know the subscriber or not, but somebody on bluestyes today,
so well, why are we using you know, drs when

(01:06:59):
we have out above average stack cast and stack cast
is great. And I said, well, one, there's no silver
bullet for defense. I've been doing this a long time,
and the next silver the next time we can say
one stat tells you everything you know about defense is
going to be the first time. Maybe stack cast eventually
gets that, but right now I want as much information
as possible. Baseball Perspectives also has a proprietary defensive stat

(01:07:20):
that I look at, So it's measuring, it's using different
approaches to try to get to the question of how
good a defender is this player relative to his peers.
And like I said, DRS says Cole Young is the
best second base in the American League this year. The
stack Caast cameras say no, he's actually slightly below average.
And again I'm also willing to look. You know, defense

(01:07:41):
isn't like offense, where we have really good measurements. I
think there's an element of subjectivity. I use my own
eyes when I at the end of the year, I
vote the the Sis, the Fielding Bible Awards, and there
isn't for me when I'm making them killing on my ballot.
I'm also using some sort of subjectivity. You know, I
watched this guy all year.

Speaker 11 (01:08:01):
What did I think of his defense?

Speaker 9 (01:08:02):
I personally think Cole looks like a shortstop playing second,
and I my evaluation is that he's closer to the
DRS number as a plus plus second baseman than he
is to the OAA number.

Speaker 5 (01:08:14):
I just don't.

Speaker 9 (01:08:15):
When I look at him, he looks like a very
good gold Glove caliber second base.

Speaker 1 (01:08:20):
I think you could also make an argument that you'd
be better off at some point with Cole Young at
short and cold Emerson at third. But that's a conversation
for a different day. Let me read these numbers real
quick for our listeners. Joe she And joining us, by
the way, since May thirty first, twenty six in runs scored, last,
in batting average last, and OBP twenty fifth and slugging

(01:08:41):
twenty ninth in WBA last WRC plus. No, that's not
the Mariners, it feels like it. Nope, that's the Yankees.
Since Aaron Judge went out. How are they doing it?

Speaker 9 (01:08:52):
Joe, Aaron and the Judge ats. I stopped making that
joke right at the point where the team became Aaron
and the Jets. And it hasn't helped. You know, Cody Bellinger,
John Carlos Stanton. Stanton's been out forever and Bellinger got
hurt in July, so they're now playing without three of
their top five or six hitters.

Speaker 8 (01:09:13):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:09:13):
You know, they tried to turn over to some younger players,
you know at the Evolpie they've been beating up for
a while. They gave up on him, just called up
the shortstop prospect Joorge Lombard. Jason Dimingiez also got sent down.
They just don't have enough good hitters. You think about
the trades that Cashman made last year to pick up
Jashisham Junior and Ryan McMahon, and one of the one

(01:09:33):
of the ideas behind making those trades was, hey, we're
gonna have these guys for a couple of years. But
that hasn't worked out because neither one of those really
hitting you know, Austin Wells has fallen completely apart after
that great year two years ago. They just don't have
enough hitters. And it's an OVP thing, so you just
even though you're hitting some solo home runs, you just
don't have enough guys on base to keep an offense going.
This is what they are, I mean to they actually

(01:09:56):
be twentieth without judge, sure, but they the players on
this team, in this lineup, this is who they are.
I didn't really love the pickups at the deadline. Luis
star Sea Junior as a low VP slugger who really
can only play against righties. He's having a peak season
and the Nationals cash in a minut at the right time.
Kelley o' ramos was a right fielder for the Giants

(01:10:17):
really also a platoon player. Can't hit right here the
pitches very well at all, so they basically traded for
what amounts to a DH platoon. But Romanos is playing
every day and batting on the top of the lineup
against righties, which isn't helping them at all. So you know,
those two guys would make for really good bench pieces
when Stanton and Bellinger and Judge. If Judge comes back,

(01:10:38):
those guys come back, you've actually bolstered your dench really well.
But right now you've just added more kind of mediocre,
middling hitters to a lineup that has way too many
of them.

Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
Are writing just to wrap it up with this. By
the way, big thanks to our good friend Eric Gordon
and the folks at Northwest Handling Systems for bringing us
Joe Sheen every week from Forklift to palat Raskeveer's the
lining equipment We sell, rent service all your warehousingkneeds request
today at WHS dot com. Give them a call for
two five zero five hundred pitching matchups, Weather's Warren Freed, Wu, Miller, Gilbert,

(01:11:09):
who's got the matchup advantage over the next three days
on the mound.

Speaker 9 (01:11:13):
It's a coin flip for me. And you're talking about
two teams that have some of the best starting pitching
in the game. You know, the Brewers are up there,
the Phillies with their top three as well. The Yankees
have better depth, which shows up in the series a
little bit. But man, the Mariners are throwing members don't
have anybody below the level of an average starting pitcher.

(01:11:34):
Every night they put on an average pitcher, and you know,
guys like Wu and Miller and Gilbert all have an
upside of you know, seven innings, two hits, one walk,
twelve strikeouts. That's the upside of every pitcher in that rotation.
So I'm still gonna call it a coin flip because
the Yankee is also you know, a lot of depth.
But this gets back to what I've talked about with

(01:11:54):
the Maritors all year long. If they can just score
a few runs, they can win this division and then
you want no part of this pitching staff in the postseason.
If they waste another year with this rotation, not getting
to the playoffs, there's just no way to not consider it.
One of the most disappointing teams in baseball. So this

(01:12:14):
pitching staff can you can literally ride them to a
World championship, but you got to get into the tournament first,
which means Rally Naylor and Julio have to start hitting better.
That's the only answer at this point.

Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
By the way, Brian Wu's first ever win Roade Brian
Wu at Yankee Stadium, ow Okay, twenty twenty three.

Speaker 9 (01:12:35):
Like I said, he had a three point four, three
point five Rodiera last year. It's just one of those
things that happened. Think about the Red Sox guys, it
was twenty seven and twenty nine and then thirty seven
and fourteen. I'm getting the numbers.

Speaker 11 (01:12:46):
Mixed up, but you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 9 (01:12:47):
Yeah, Or the Cubs, we have two ten game winning
streaks and a ten game losing streak. We don't want
to say that baseball just generates a lot of random numbers,
but baseball generates a lot of random numbers and home
road splits for a pitcher and a given or two
thirds of a given season.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
Definitely ran on our sixteen games. That's gonna happen. Joshan,
tell us about the newsletter, sir.

Speaker 6 (01:13:55):
Now back Dean Furness on your home for the Huskies.
Crack it and the twelve Man brought to you by
Seattle's closest snow Call me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM, So.

Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
Brian, I don't know, man, I love you, Joe. This
will be his thirteenth start away from home this season.
It's one in eight six point seven to one ERA
sixty three innings pitched, which is only one and a

(01:14:37):
third lesson at home. He's given up fifty runs forty
seven or earned nine home runs four home runs at home,
nine on the road. He's walked sixteen fifty eight strikeouts.
His strikeout to walk ratio. Joe mentioned three point six three.

Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
Bat batted balls in play, batting average on balls.

Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
Batting average balls in play three point fifty two compared
to two fourteen, And.

Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
I am interested to kind of dive deeper into that
stat specifically because I think people use it in multiple
different ways. People look at cal Rawley's bapup last year
versus this year, okay, and you could say that there's
a huge gap. And basically what that does is it
takes out home runs and strikeouts, right, It's everything that

(01:15:27):
is put in play. So you could say, on one hand, yes,
he relies so much on home runs and he strikes
out a lot, that his putting the ball in play
numbers are going to always be kind of lower than
you would expect, right. But on the other hand, you

(01:15:48):
can say, well, last year he was doing more besides
hitting home runs, he was hitting doubles. He was you know,
getting on base when he put the ball in play.
And a lot of baseball statisticians basically equate the BAPEP
stat to luck, like, Okay, how lucky are you getting?

Speaker 5 (01:16:08):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
And that's I think what Joe was alluding to there.
But I think there's definitely some room for nuance to
say that, hey, you're allowing a lot of balls in
play and it's being hit hard, So that's why the
batting average on ball and play are being the number
is being a little bit higher. But just just so
everyone knows. But when most people reference BAPEP, it's basically
saying how lucky is he this year?

Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
Or unlucky? Right? Exactly exactly luckier or unlucky in right regard.
I'm just looking for where in that word, like.

Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
What's this fip on the road?

Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
I'll look for that?

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
Is you for willyaman field independent pitching, which again it
takes out balls and play. It's strikeouts, walks and home runs.

Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
I'm trying to find what's what's ah there it is, Okay,
there's Rally's. So last year his batting average balls in
play to forty eight. Yeah, this year it's two o four.

Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
That's time in that big of a difference, to be honest.

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
For his career, is it two forty seven?

Speaker 11 (01:17:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
His I mean his rookie his twenty twenty one he
only had one hundred and forty one played appearance. Yeah,
So let's just go since then to twenty six, Yeah,
two seventy three, two fifty one to forty eight and
now two o four.

Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
So if you're looking at if you use the batpep
as the luck stat his luckiest year was actually twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
Three, Yes, at two seventy three, right, yeah, but I
let's also go back. He's he's not a ball and
play guy. He's also forty four points down from where
he was last correct. Yes, with all those home runs, Yes,
he's still forty four points below, right. I mean, I mean,
if you want to go, do you want to go

(01:17:49):
a hard hit rate? I mean yeah, okay, I mean,
just I know I I all of those are going
to be down, I mean significantly way thirty four percent. Yeah,
he was at fifty percent. I'm rounding up last year's
forty nine points sex so fifty percent last season forty eight,
forty one, forty three. So he's his career average just
if you take out I mean, he's about fifteen sixteen,

(01:18:12):
seventeen points below his career average there. Yeah, I mean
it's what Joe said, why is this team not doing well?
Because that guy's not doing well? And you put and
in Jerry's defense, there's no way that those guys were
expecting him to hit sixty sixty one. There's just no way.
Let's let's let's all understand that we all we all
get that that's a given, that's an absolute given.

Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
They were getting his contract based off his previous couple
of years. What I'm saying, I'm talking about like going
into the season, what are you going to count on? Right, Like,
when you're putting your ro season, when you're putting your
roster together, what are you thinking with cal Rawley?

Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
And I bet if you if you would get Jerry
in a truthful moment and say, what were you expecting? Well,
he's twenty twenty four season. Well, let's just go through
his full seasons twenty seven home runs, thirty home runs,
thirty four RBI sixty three seventy five, one hundred hundred,
twenty five. So let's just say, for argument's sake, Jerry
probably say I could probably see him hitting thirty thirty five. Yeah,

(01:19:08):
and people be like disappointment with that. No, right now,
we'd be thrilled with that. So like, I don't put
that on Jerry. I don't put that on Dan. I
don't put that on Justin lunatriic fringe. I don't put
that's a player. And then we go back to Julio.
Let's not put it all on him. Hell, let's just
go to Naylor, like, yeah, two home run Saturday Super

(01:19:28):
first two since you know, at home since June first first. Yeah,
somehow Naylor has turned into a singles hitter, an effective
one lately, yeah, but a singles hitter. They're not paying
him at first base to be a singles hitter.

Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
And it's funny because if we were looking at all,
the kind of underlying numbers with cal Rawley, Josh Naylors
almost look identical.

Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
From last year. God, So yeah, all right, we will
take a break. Come back by the way four nine
four to five one. That is the to go on
to dodge text line four nine four five one. Also
talkbacks welcome as well. Go to the iHeartRadio app red microphone.

(01:20:30):
around to some point. Anders keep telling you that four
back in the Wildcard with six teams separating them from Texas.
In that final spot, Storm beat the Chicago Sky last
night snap in eleven game losing streak. NFL News Seahawks
announcer Robbie Hoots is on the injured reserve for the
rest of the year. They put him on before the
season starts, before final cutdown. That means he has done

(01:20:51):
for the year. League below for their offense. They wanted
to fall back in there. Minnesota Vikings have named Kyler
Murray there starting quarterback over JJ McCart most of his
salary being paid while the Arizona Cardinals, but he's the
Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback. JJ McCarthy's looking around saying, what
did I do? Why? What happened? Oh? You probably weren't

(01:21:13):
good enough for the first place. Go Blue, go our
number three.

Speaker 6 (01:21:18):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the

Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
All right, John Linne, we'll get him on here in
just a couple of seconds. He's wrapping up day two
of his new gig, so we'll get him on here
in a second.

Speaker 11 (01:21:45):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
Who ah h stats are for losers, says A sixth
three zero. Oh, this is an interesting one. I will
get to the all the texts come to the bottom
of the hour four two five Swing and Miss must
be off the charts too, because he's just guessing at

(01:22:06):
the play talking about cal Rawley, right, and I don't know, man,
I let's see what is I can find that to
take a minute, but let's just look at what Joe said,
and this is an interesting dynamic. What do you call it?
Judge and the judgets.

Speaker 4 (01:22:26):
Yeah, I like that.

Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
So what they've been doing, they being the Yankees since
Judge went out offensively is Mariner esque twenty six in
run scored last and batting average last, nobp twenty fifth
out of thirty and slugging. I could go on. They're
one superstar hitter. He got hurt, Stanton has him been

(01:22:50):
there and they're paying the price. Except their run differential
is almost ninety. So the similarities and part of it
is much like Seattle great pitching staff. Joe just talked
about that, but they're supporting their pitching staff just enough.

(01:23:11):
Seattle is not. You can so like like as much
as we want to bang on cal Naylor Julio, I
mean the rodding carcass at once was named Rob Refsnyder
and others that have been coming and going and all
those things. The offense basically other teams can can make
do as well. They just haven't done it. They haven't

(01:23:34):
done it. I mean, I'm just looking at the text
line here, and I mean we're gonna get more of
this tomorrow. We'll see, I mean, maybe they get a
win tonight. We feel a lot better.

Speaker 5 (01:23:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:23:44):
Well, here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
You compare that to the Yankees, and you know, it's
it's very similar offensive numbers as a whole, right, but
you're looking at it just feels like the Mariners whenever
they do get a little bit of offense. Oh, the
starting pitcher happens to blow up. Happened that Brian wu
can't get out of the fourth inning in Texas?

Speaker 3 (01:24:02):
Right, or.

Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
You know, you get you get a couple of runs
in the first inning, but they go quiet for the
rest of the day. But then Logan Gilbert in the
fifth inning, has you know, a couple of weird plays
happen and it's all of a sudden three to two
at that they're just not winning game.

Speaker 3 (01:24:18):
It's not one I personally don't think.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Obviously the offense is the biggest hole, but it's not
one part of their game that's consistently failing them. They're
just not whatever it is, they're not winning baseball games.

Speaker 1 (01:24:30):
They're almost finding ways to lose exactly is what ends
up happening. And I think with these guys right now,
and I think Wu might be the great example of
this on the road. Road Brian, Wu, go get a win.
And just that's why I keep saying I'm confident, Like
we kind of joke about it here on the show

(01:24:50):
all the time, like I'm not usually glass half full guy.
As far as baseball team's concerned, they are one good
week away. Don't say again, stopping. They're one good week away.
That's but that's that the math tells you they're one
good week away.

Speaker 3 (01:25:05):
My god, did the eyes tell you that?

Speaker 5 (01:25:08):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
Okay, well no, I don't need the eyes. They're one
good week away. Do the eyes tell me they're capable
of me?

Speaker 5 (01:25:14):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:25:14):
The answer is no, Yeah, all right, John Lend.

Speaker 6 (01:25:17):
Welcome to Ian's weekly visit with John Lund Unleashed. He's
a Bay Area media icon who's known Ian for over
twenty five years. But don't let their age change your
opinion of them. John takes you through the Bay Area
and the NFC West and dupes it out with the
inn Over, the.

Speaker 4 (01:25:34):
Niners and the Hawks.

Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
So let's unleash it now with John Lunn. Here's Ian.

Speaker 4 (01:25:40):
Oh gee, pull the phone.

Speaker 12 (01:25:43):
Oh this is an unscheduled surprise, it's him on This
young man has had a very trying rookie season, what
with the litigation, the notoriety is subsequent deportation to Canada
and the countries.

Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
Refusing to accept him.

Speaker 12 (01:25:59):
Well, I guess that's more than most twenty one year
olds could handle it.

Speaker 1 (01:26:07):
The Bay Areas, Ogie Oglethorpe is back. He's better.

Speaker 11 (01:26:11):
You cannot kill me.

Speaker 13 (01:26:13):
I mean cocking roach.

Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
That was that was that was pulled straight from K
and BR. That's that was the listeners on Monday when
you showed back up.

Speaker 13 (01:26:28):
Pure craziness.

Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
This business pure craziness for those for those who don't know,
we we in some ways tongue in cheek. Tried to
joke about a guy getting laid off John for the
last what eighteen months or so, and and you were
doing some Westwood Want just a bunch of other things,
and yeah, you got this stupid business of radio. And

(01:26:50):
then this is a first for me. I've never heard
this before. The place that laid you off came groveling
back and you went back, what the hell are you doing?

Speaker 13 (01:27:00):
Why not?

Speaker 11 (01:27:01):
About two weeks ago, I get this call and they're like, hey,
you want your old time.

Speaker 13 (01:27:05):
Slot back and I go maybe, and then so they just.

Speaker 11 (01:27:10):
Called me back and they just said, hey, why don't
you come back, and then being bing bong, you know,
they offered me a terrible contract and I thought, this
is great, and then I came back. So I literally
and this is why I'm late. I was on the
air and because I'm so talented that, you know, the
guy who's in the afternoon wouldn't let me go.

Speaker 13 (01:27:25):
So it's like seven after and I go, dude.

Speaker 11 (01:27:27):
I gotta go, man, I got people. I got a
regular gig.

Speaker 13 (01:27:30):
I don't know how long this one's going to last,
but I got a.

Speaker 1 (01:27:32):
Regular gig that I do all the time. And so
here I am.

Speaker 11 (01:27:36):
But yeah, I'm back on camby are I am back
being public enemy number one. I just had a bunch
of niners on the show and everything, and so yeah,
I'm back in the belly of the Beast. I am back.
I'm back here on the flagship of the forty nine
ers doing Middays. It's insane.

Speaker 1 (01:27:53):
I never would have thought that. It's crazy. My favorite
part of this is people now, the Greg Papa situation.
Don't all these battling answer and our best goes out
to him. We like to have phone with Greg, but
no question. But you know, and that's a whole difference.
But the guy that basically replaced you, people are like
feeling bad for him. Now yeah, Mike Silver's kid. It's like, wait, wait,
you're feeling sorry for the guy that replaced Wait what

(01:28:16):
Like what about the guy that first got I told people.

Speaker 11 (01:28:20):
That's what I told people, like, go, look, if you know,
you know, Greg's one of my best friends and he's
going to battle this whole thing. But then the kid
that and the first day on the job, like it
was just the weirdest thing. Plus you know, the thing
is too they've moved studios and stuff. So like yesterday,
even though I've been on this radio station for like
fifteen years, I go downstairs to try to get into
the station and I can't because I don't have a
key card or anything. And so, you know, the security

(01:28:41):
guy comes up to me and goes, are you new here?
And I go, I guess I am. It was like
it was like being in the Twilight Zone yesterday. I'm
used to it now, and like you said.

Speaker 1 (01:28:49):
This business is crazier, but he knows that.

Speaker 11 (01:28:51):
But it's it was just weird, Like I'm like, I'm
in a different studio, but it's the same station, and
they turfed me twenty minutes twenty eight minutes ago, uh,
twenty months ago, and it's just it's just totally weird.

Speaker 13 (01:29:02):
It's just really weird.

Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
Our best goes out, our best does go out to
your former co host. But he did send a message.

Speaker 13 (01:29:08):
Can you feel it now?

Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
We can, we can. I know you're going to do that.
You're going to do Thanks, thank you.

Speaker 13 (01:29:17):
I got something for you too. Because I said listen
to this.

Speaker 11 (01:29:19):
They got so mad at me. Today's listeners today they
were like for about thirty seconds like, oh my god,
we're glad you're back. This is awesome, this, that and
the other.

Speaker 13 (01:29:26):
And today I asked somebody.

Speaker 11 (01:29:28):
On the Niners this, I said, I think Seattle's flying
under the radar and I think Mike McDonald loves it.

Speaker 13 (01:29:35):
And people lost their minds, like how.

Speaker 11 (01:29:36):
Can the Super Bowl champs play under the raidar? And
I'm like, everybody's rams, rams, rams, rams, all rams, just
everything is rams all the time.

Speaker 13 (01:29:44):
And I thought, you know, I don't know that there's
been a.

Speaker 11 (01:29:46):
Super Bowl champion that just has gotten and I don't
care about respect, this, that and the other. You get
this done on the field. This is in college football.
You don't have rankings but that and I got I
bet Mike McDonald is just loving it. And I just
I said that on the air. I think it's just
a great thing for Seattle, and they're like, you've been
gone you love the Seahawks. I'm like, I think that
was your listeners that are starting to spread that it's

(01:30:07):
happening on like the text line, yep, that's what people
are saying. That's well, we have to be bunk that
right away. What Andrews, what have you been saying for
years now.

Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Years years, Even when you were on KMB earlier, I
was like, this guy's a closet Seahawks totally a closet
Seahawks fan.

Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
One hundred percent of closet Seahawks.

Speaker 11 (01:30:24):
Fan that rumor, and it's getting up here and people
are getting very upset, but it's you know whatever, I
don't care. What are they gonna do?

Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
Fire me?

Speaker 3 (01:30:33):
This is a closet Niners fan.

Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
That's that's a one hundred percent. That is one hundred percent.

Speaker 11 (01:30:39):
Like we have that documented on I think we have
audio of that actually saying that one time.

Speaker 1 (01:30:43):
The only thing I'm know, I'm a fan of two things.
When I was traveling, I was a fan of two
things with with the forty nine ers. One we'd be
going when we stayed in San Jose, going to Original
Joe's for dinner on a Saturday or Sunday night, so good,
so good, so good, like unbelievably good. And and to
the Omelet station at Levi Stadium on a Sunday that

(01:31:04):
I was I was a fanadastical. Yeah, very solid, really good,
really solid. Nothing it's yeah, I would agree with you.

Speaker 11 (01:31:11):
Sunday night. The Niners do this every single year Sunday Night.
And this is the most awkward thing. I ain't seen
most of these guys for like two years, and then
I've been bad mouthing them since I've been gone and
all that kind of stuff. And so we have this
dinner at Original Joe's in North Beach in San Francisco,
and the Niners do this thing and the booze is
flowing and everything's free, and so everybody just gets bombed
on the forty nine ers dime. And we did it

(01:31:31):
at that Original Joe's and it was so awkward. Yeah,
because I went there actually earlier and drank a few
drinks to kind of loosen up, because you know, I've
been talking trash about these guys now the station stinks
and all this kind of stuff, and then it's like,
I see him face to face. I'd never go back there.

Speaker 13 (01:31:45):
Those guys fuck, there's nothing without me. And then I go,
you know, I go back. I'm like, hey, buddy, how's
it going there.

Speaker 1 (01:31:51):
I'm going to tell you right now, the day that
the day that they escort me out of here there,
I can guarantee you they're never going to want me back.
And you know who would be even worse than that,
the guy that's after me, The guy does the show
from three o'clock to seven o'clock.

Speaker 4 (01:32:05):
Like that guy.

Speaker 1 (01:32:06):
When they turf him, it's gonna be fire and Brimstone. Man,
it's gonna be bad. It's gonna be bad. Well, I
tuned in today. First of all, I had to. I
had to go. I had deleted the K and br
app but now it's back on the phone. Yeah I did,
but it was back on so ted I'm figuring. I
just yeah, I get to a stop sign, I hit
the you know thing, and I'm like okay, I just

(01:32:27):
I'm then I see you, like, why is the app?
Can I just get the audio to look at you?

Speaker 11 (01:32:33):
He look, you're preaching to a choir on that one.
You know everybody knows I look like the elephant.

Speaker 13 (01:32:38):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
I hear no human being.

Speaker 11 (01:32:40):
I tell people.

Speaker 13 (01:32:41):
I tell people personally that don't go there. Like you know,
most stations like, yeah, join us on YouTube.

Speaker 11 (01:32:45):
I'm like, please, don't do not join us on YouTube.
Like it's just it's it's not good, it's terrible. I
can't imagine you drove down the street and did that.

Speaker 4 (01:32:53):
But no, I put it.

Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
I put the phone down. People, I'm not I'm not
Kyle Shanahan. I'm not Kyle Shanahan. The phone down, buddy,
I put the phone down.

Speaker 13 (01:33:04):
That he's okay, I.

Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
I put it down. But here's the best part, Andrews,
you'll love this. So I'm listening and he's talking about
the oh, you know, the Warriors and when they trade
staff and you know, you're just most that was very popular. Yeah,
trade staff and all this stuff. And I'm like, Okay,
this is awesome. I'm enjoying every second of this. But

(01:33:31):
then the next segment he did it like calling radio
a bit okay, very well to see and and all
I can think of is I think that came from
our show, our conversations over the last couple of years.
Tell people the bit you did after that, well, I
mean I thought it was hilarious, and I did too.

(01:33:52):
I thought it was great.

Speaker 13 (01:33:53):
It's a heritage radio station.

Speaker 11 (01:33:55):
So what you had on the text line before I
tell you what it is is all these old people
that are, you know, above a certain age, like, this
is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. And then you know,
younger people thought it was the funniest thing. But basically
what we did was we came up with like five
questions and then we and it sounded like it was
being asked to the substation.

Speaker 13 (01:34:12):
So we had this substation like.

Speaker 11 (01:34:14):
And we had these like lightning bolts going on in
the background, and they had Eddie grants, you know, Electric
Avenue going down to Electric a new and we have.
So the substation I was like, can you just give
us a break this year? Why do you have to
hurt Ricky Piercell, Hey man, come on, it's Kyle had
the head coach. Can't you give us a break? So
the substation answered all these questions and we were cracking
up about it. I thought it was hilarious. Old people

(01:34:36):
were like, this.

Speaker 13 (01:34:37):
Is so dumb. I'm never listening to this show ever.
And then I'm like, good, go away.

Speaker 1 (01:34:43):
I don't care the substance, the substation. The substation was
classic and it's legit, legit. How many guys, how many
guys miss practiced today for the forty nine ers, I
don't well listen to this.

Speaker 13 (01:34:57):
So every time they say something.

Speaker 11 (01:34:59):
Like don't work, don't worry, don't worry, don't worry. They've
been saying that for about both are like five days,
don't worry. Well, now it comes out that he's week
to week.

Speaker 13 (01:35:06):
Not day to day, week to week with knee tennantitis.

Speaker 11 (01:35:09):
Or they told us today, don't worry about Christian McCaffrey,
no problem. Now he's been out for like three straight days.
So it's just it's just it's unbelievable because that's what
these things turn into, and yet you can't help it.
And what's funny is is that like we bring people
on that are you know, smart people. I mean, we're
close to Stanford. I'm not I could I can't even
go to the campus. But but you know, I'm like

(01:35:29):
asking for me and people are calling up and they
really think this is a thing, Like they they think
it's a thing, and I'm just like we come on,
like it can't be. But it's it's gotten to the
point in this in this town that like people are
really it's like believing in Bigfoot, but they do. They
believe in this substation thing, and it's just it's turned
into this crazy thing. But like you said, it's hard
to debunk because at one point they had twenty guys

(01:35:53):
out of camp. And we're not talking about like guys
who don't matter. We're talking about you know, Mike Evans,
like you said, Bosa green Law, like.

Speaker 13 (01:36:00):
You know, the CMC, like it's the substation doesn't.

Speaker 11 (01:36:05):
Go after like you know, nobody's it hits, you know,
George Kittle, like those are the guys the substations, like
you know, every year unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (01:36:13):
That's why you did. That's why you had the substation
on the air today. Yeah right, Yeah, I'm sure the
forty nine ers love it out. I'm sure the forty
nineers loved that.

Speaker 6 (01:36:21):
Oh I'm glad to Yeah, So I've been back.

Speaker 11 (01:36:23):
This is my second day and so, uh, one of
our one of our guys, one of our internet guys.
So that's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Oh, we're
putting it up. And then they put it up. I
guess what happened. They got a call Hello, Yes, this
is the forty nine ers. Could you please take that
bit down? We don't think it's funny at all, and
then therefore it got deleted. So we thought it was funny,
We posted it, people thought it was funny, and then

(01:36:45):
we got a call from from mom and dad and
they told us that, yeah, that's got to go away.

Speaker 1 (01:36:50):
So they don't have a sense of humor about it.
So that's weird. That's strange that they don't have a
sense of Who could have predicted that they wouldn't have
a they'd have a problem with that. I just find
that shocking, to be honest with you. Yeah, I on
them two days into this thing, while four.

Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
Two five has John Lunn thank you for reviving his
career Ian forn Us.

Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
Yeah have you? No, you haven't.

Speaker 5 (01:37:15):
Oh, good point.

Speaker 1 (01:37:23):
We kept hey wow, if nothing else, we kept the
Lund pilot light a lit right, That's what we did.

Speaker 4 (01:37:29):
We kept it.

Speaker 1 (01:37:29):
That's fair and now and now you're back in the
belly of the Beast in the Bay Area, and it
is fantastic and we can talk now the only we
can share our hatred for the Rams and and and all.

Speaker 11 (01:37:43):
By the way, they might have a substation that pook
and the Coua is out of practice today, Myles Garrett, I.

Speaker 1 (01:37:48):
Was just gonna say that, like, well, poo Pooka, that
weird old freak. He probably bit somebody again or something, right, Like,
who knows what that guy dide.

Speaker 13 (01:37:58):
Yeah, it might be something out there. I mean, I'm
not rooting for it, even though my voice is kind
of inflecting upwards.

Speaker 6 (01:38:03):
I'm not looking for it.

Speaker 13 (01:38:04):
But that's not cool, not cool. But they're saying they
don't even they.

Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
Don't know what it is, and it's like whoa, So
anyway that would be that'd be unfortunate, if if I'd
be really unfortunate, if those guys are bad.

Speaker 11 (01:38:21):
That's our line on the show.

Speaker 1 (01:38:23):
That would not be good. We're not wishing for We're
not wishing for that, But that'd be unfortunate, that'd be bad.

Speaker 13 (01:38:28):
Ye.

Speaker 1 (01:38:30):
How about are other friends in the ore, other friends
in the NFC West. I wonder how much they'll enjoy
watching thirty million dollars of their money go to the
starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 11 (01:38:38):
Huh oh, Yeah, that's a rough one. Yeah, I mean
that one I never understood because you're thinking yourself, Look,
I'm sure you have bad issues, and like you said,
I'm down in Phoenix to a lot of the time,
and and it's like, Okay, Jacoby Brissette or work it
out with Kyler Murray. And look, he's not the best.

Speaker 13 (01:38:58):
We've all seen it, you know, through the.

Speaker 11 (01:39:00):
Years with Kyler Murray. I mean, he shows flashes and
then he's a complete moron. But but he's better than
Jacoby Brisset. He's better than No, he's not better than
Gardner Minshew, but he's better than Jacoby Busset. And he's
you know, Carson Beck showed some flashes. Everyone's freaking out.
I mean, come on, it was a Hall of Fame game.

Speaker 1 (01:39:17):
Who knows.

Speaker 11 (01:39:17):
But yeah, that I don't understand. I mean, you're you're
gonna choose Jacoby Brissett over trying to work things.

Speaker 13 (01:39:22):
Out with Kyler Murray, and you're gonna pay Kyler.

Speaker 11 (01:39:23):
Murray over thirty million dollars to people realize that the
Cardinals have one of the most expensive quarterback rooms in
the NFL and he's playing for the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (01:39:32):
That's amazing, That's that's remarkable. Well, here's the thing I
don't like about it, though, is I there's there's something
that there's a skill set there for Murray. Now, it's
not gonna make him taller, like we always said that
with Russ, like it did nothing with Russ was never
going to grow. But and that's and that's one of
Murray's biggest issues. But there is a skill set there.

(01:39:53):
He goes to a guy that is kind of a
quarterback whisperer. Like I don't we don't need him to
have good co coaching and like nobody needs better teams
in the NFC, you know, like that's the only thing. Well,
Connall can help this guy out. We don't need to
see that in this conference.

Speaker 11 (01:40:09):
Well you did just pointing it out.

Speaker 13 (01:40:11):
I mean, Sam Darnold throws thirty five touchdown passes and.

Speaker 11 (01:40:13):
Goes down there and helps you know, Seattle win a
championship and it's it really hasn't.

Speaker 1 (01:40:18):
Been a question.

Speaker 11 (01:40:19):
I mean, Murray has the talent and all that kind
of stuff, and he sells the speed and all that
kind of stuff. And yeah, like you said, height to side,
but if Kevin O'Connell can work with him on certain things.
And here's the other thing too, is I mean, there
is a boatload of talent offensively. Just get it to
Justin Jefferson. There's a lot of talent there offensively. As
you point it out, it's the NFC West that the
North is already really really good with the Bears Packers,

(01:40:41):
I think the Lions are gonna are gonna bounce back.
And now you if Murray is what we're talking about here,
then all of a sudden, Minnesota's back into it. I mean,
what were they nine to eight last year or something
they I mean the throw that Brosmer made last year
that Ernest Jones intercepted was the I don't care what
anybody says, it was the worst pass of the year.
That wasn't even a pass. It was just one of

(01:41:02):
the dumbest things anybody did all year. That's the kind
of quarterback play they were getting. If they even get
competent quarterback play, they're gonna be difficult because Brian Flores
is a great defensive coordinator. So yeah, that's that's not good.

Speaker 1 (01:41:12):
Didn't know. Didn't Kyler have one of those of Witherspoons
last year two years ago, that Witherspoon he had when
Kyler had a similar one to Witherspoon. Yeah, so, I
you know, the thing is is that it's you. At
the end of the day. You still have to have
a guy that's competent decision making and Murray isn't that,
Like he never has been. Kyler has never been that

(01:41:32):
I'm waiting for. We're waiting for a depth chart from Dallas.
We got one from Seattle. I saw you posted one
from the forty nine. It's depth chart season buddy.

Speaker 4 (01:41:39):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (01:41:39):
It's like it's football porn for everybody.

Speaker 11 (01:41:42):
That's what I called it. Yeah, preseason porn, and everybody
just it's the dumbest thing. And this is how most
teams do it. I'm sure the Seahawks do too. That
the coaches aren't really worried about depth charts and.

Speaker 1 (01:41:52):
So nothing against him.

Speaker 11 (01:41:53):
It's just the pr staff puts it out and everybody
freaks out and acts like it's because you know what,
we're so obsessed with any more of football. So just
they put out a depth chart and I just felt
compelled to do it. Like I did a segment on
the Depth Chart. I felt dirty and disgusting after I
did it, but it was like, that's just what sometimes
you just got to do it the people want. And
so there's like two or three on there that you're like,

(01:42:14):
how's this guy ahead of this guy? And it was like,
you know, I'm just like, oh, I feel just worse
about it.

Speaker 13 (01:42:19):
But you know, it's we just can't get enough. Becomes
a big day, like.

Speaker 11 (01:42:23):
The depth chart comes out, it's a big day.

Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
Anders Look what I printed up. It's the Seahawks. That's
right there. There's a reason I'll get in. I'll get
into why later this week. But I actually had to
print it up. Okay, listen, congratulations, this will be.

Speaker 13 (01:42:40):
It was all you're doing.

Speaker 11 (01:42:42):
But it was all you're doing.

Speaker 1 (01:42:43):
I'm gonna take all the credit. I'm gonna take all
the credit, except when you just you know, something goes
south again a sideways, So then I want no credit. John,
who you want give me no severance? I know that one,
never heard one, never heard of the I'm not sure
who you're talking about about.

Speaker 11 (01:43:01):
Beautiful because now we can we can really hate each
other again and you'll hate our station and we can
have yawn.

Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
Oh yeah, you don't want that. You don't want that.

Speaker 11 (01:43:11):
I was so, yeah, we do.

Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
I think I did one or two. I think I
did two hits with you and Papa, and I was
never asked back for some reason.

Speaker 13 (01:43:18):
Yeah, he's he's touchy.

Speaker 11 (01:43:20):
He's touchy. He gets.

Speaker 1 (01:43:23):
I think that's touchy.

Speaker 13 (01:43:27):
Every time we'd.

Speaker 11 (01:43:28):
Hang up, every time, you know what, he really liked you.
He didn't like Bucket, but he liked you.

Speaker 1 (01:43:32):
Yeah, I think that.

Speaker 11 (01:43:32):
And then it would be like, you know, we'd hang up,
and then he'd be like, who are those jackasses? Those
are friends of mine?

Speaker 1 (01:43:38):
Man, No buddy, who could throw a football? That's not Greg?
But sure, I think that's I think that's right on.
I saw you know, Meryl Reech. Yeah that was bad.
I didn't see Greg. I didn't see Greg after one
of those hits. When you guys were in town and
he was on the sideline we did our live shots
for Fox on the visiting side and he walks by
and I introduced myself in person. He was very cordial,

(01:44:00):
very nice guy. So I think I think any issues
were on your end, not his. But that's just that's
probably not surprise either.

Speaker 11 (01:44:07):
All right, Actually I am throwing him into the bus.
I was the one who had a problem with you
and didn't want you.

Speaker 1 (01:44:11):
One ever again. That's right. Well, we'll talk admit it,
and we'll talk to you next week. In the meantime,
if you guys want to listen about Steph Curry and
what's gonna happen with him to.

Speaker 11 (01:44:21):
Get moved today, trade Steph Curry. They're like, oh my god,
please go back into hiding.

Speaker 1 (01:44:25):
I love that. Trade Steph, and let's have the substation on.
I thought it was a solid hour of radio for you.
I see a long and prosperous does a long and
prosperous second stint at tip anbr for you, fella. It's
gonna be good as rich more.

Speaker 13 (01:44:40):
If you guys are hiring there, I'll board off whatever.

Speaker 11 (01:44:43):
I'll go talk to I think this is gonna last
very long.

Speaker 1 (01:44:45):
I'll go see if it's Moores around c If if
that's John Line, we'll check our text messages coming up next.

Speaker 6 (01:44:53):
Now back to Ian Furness on your Home for the
Huskies Cracking and the Twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's Snow Call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 8 (01:45:10):
Hey guys, KYL Rawley, you are your favorite big dumper.
Funny nickname there, But yeah, I just want to say
that I do remain focused. Has nothing to do in
the offseason with WBC not shaking Randia Roser in his hand.

Speaker 1 (01:45:21):
I am a tough guy.

Speaker 8 (01:45:22):
Or the four hundred and seventy five commercials I was
in shout out to Angel, the wins, Casino, Pempco Insurance,
Alaska Airlines, Bob's Plumbing, Depoto's hair gel, among others. I
will remain focused and probably strike out tonight, but I
know you'll stick with me because my name isn't Julio.

Speaker 1 (01:45:38):
Thanks guys, the right hand bomb at the end. By
the way, Cal moved up in the lineup. He's hitting
six today deserved. Well, he's only doing that because Naylor's out.
He's got a little wrist issue, as we all know.
So we'll see what Naylor's out. So that means you
get Wilson at first base today. God, so leading off

(01:46:02):
is your guy Taylor Warder. As I said on the
show yesterday, I went to the game. My wife says
to me, who's this random guy.

Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
That's a great description.

Speaker 1 (01:46:10):
I go, he's supposed to hit home runs, and now
he's a singles hitter and what gets on base? But
all he's done his strikeouts as a guy here and
then literally immediately he rings one off the wall. Hey,
there you go, and then went over for the rest
of the day.

Speaker 14 (01:46:21):
All right, next time, I'm tired of people saying that
Julio Rodriguez is a superstar. He's an average player at best.
Trade him and this starting lineup of pictures. Their starting
rotation is ridiculously inept. Home run after home run after

(01:46:42):
home run. They're born to break your heart.

Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
Good timing after that previous talkback, you have all people
you want to trade Julio, I have no I have
no words.

Speaker 1 (01:47:00):
Starting pitch, taking final one fire away.

Speaker 11 (01:47:04):
Hey, guys, love the show. I could almost see it
now the Lions will trade for JJ McCarthy to beet
their backup or third string. That will happen.

Speaker 1 (01:47:16):
It just makes too much sense. Later not the same division,
it won't happen. Yeah, okay, hey, Ian's as a father
and honor have you already covered this? But one's fund
sanon Thursday. Let's go get it ready Thursday play unofficial
start of the weekend Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, typical marriage, feel

(01:47:42):
good Installas are driving moves instead of doing what's right.
From a baseball standpoint, Timo will Park is a baseball
theme park, not a baseball park.

Speaker 3 (01:47:49):
It's actually a funny description.

Speaker 1 (01:47:50):
I kind of is. Yeah, let's see four two five Ian.
This drives me crazy. Dan Wilson coaches players for the Manors.
Are professionals. What happens when professionals don't perform? They get fired.
Person takes it maybe personally, but it's not. It's business.
I have to do my job and you do as well.
If you don't perform and people don't turn tune in,
what would happen? Should you take that personal? Should others
take it personal? Nope? I mean, listen, there's no more

(01:48:18):
personal profession than what we do. Our lives are here
every day, we talk about ourselves every I mean, it's yeah.
And if you don't want to listen, don't like, don't relate,
they get ready. I've listen, man, I've I've somehow avoided
it for our almost twenty years. So I don't know
what I don't know what the secret sauce is I
would I fooled them. I fooled them so far. But

(01:48:40):
you're right, like in most jobs and most professions, if
you're not doing your job, you get let go. You know,
h only way to fix the team is trade cal
he's alienated the clubhouse he has, or as somebody else.

Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
Yeah, I don't know how much that the Randy stuff
really plays into it. I really don't. I'm serious. I'm
not like diluting that.

Speaker 1 (01:49:08):
I just I don't. Baseball is just such a different
sport because and here's where I agree with you. Baseball
is very different in this regard you. It's individual based
in terms of most performances. Right. In other words, like
you go up as a solo person swinging a bat.

Speaker 2 (01:49:24):
It has the least like your output as a player
compared to other sports, has the least amount to do
with other players on your team. Yes, it's it's you
versus the pitcher or you know, pitcher versus the hitter.

Speaker 1 (01:49:38):
Right, Yes, what.

Speaker 3 (01:49:40):
Another guy is doing the lineup?

Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
Yeah, you may see more pitches because of people around
you aren't hitting well, right, But it's very minimal compared
to like football, where you need the receiver to catch
the ball when you throw it to them.

Speaker 1 (01:49:54):
Mm hmmm, very very true, very very true. Judge has
many home runs as Julio as in half the games.
BRA He's got it oblique. Well, if he's hurt, why
is he playing?

Speaker 11 (01:50:08):
Why is he playing?

Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
There's there's nothing though, like in terms of bat speed
that suggests he's hurt. No, that's the thing like that,
that's something that would show up right with bat speed
and backs like that.

Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
Yeah, and it's who was it Eno that brought it
up last week? That was just like it's it sucks
to say, but he's just in his head. He's swinging
a pitch as he normally does the swing app and
he's not hitting the ones that he should be destroying.

Speaker 1 (01:50:34):
Maria's put six players in the top fifty. They shouldn't
be there, miss at least four that should. It's a
joke game player playing better than all but forty four
other players. You didn't even put on a Rose Raina.
What a joke? Did Did Randy deserve to be on that?
You think? I mean, I'm asking this seriously.

Speaker 2 (01:50:48):
It depends on what your criteria is. I think for
a guy that's been here for less than two seasons
about two seasons exactly at this point? Actually did they did?

Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
They have to have three catchers. The Valley one was
just and and Dave's a good dude, great dude.

Speaker 3 (01:51:07):
I don't think he would be pissed if he was
left off it.

Speaker 1 (01:51:09):
I bet he was shocked he found out he was
on it. Yeah, right right, I thought they.

Speaker 3 (01:51:16):
I thought Geno should have been a.

Speaker 1 (01:51:18):
Frez one of the biggest hits in franchise history.

Speaker 2 (01:51:21):
Obviously Jeff Nelson, that's the main one. Nelly and then
Nelly one is just weird. Here's the thing with the
Nelly one, and now you can't walk back from that.
You can't, like you've if if you wanted to repair
the relationship, then you could have by putting him on
that fifty man, and you didn't. I there's no reasonable

(01:51:42):
explanation why he's not on it. Evan Dias for me
as well, one of the best. He had a couple
of the best seasons in Mariner Reliever.

Speaker 1 (01:51:48):
Yeah. I thought Mike Schooler could have been on it.
Their first grade clothes, yes, I mean yeah, I mean,
you're gonna miss guys. It's just part of it is
how it goes. Somebody said yesterday, and I totally agree.
Probably should have had fifty four, not fifty softies necks.

Speaker 6 (01:52:10):
Now back to Ian Furness on your home for the
Huskies Cracking and the twelfth Man, brought to you by
Seattle's closest Snow call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ r Fmady.

Speaker 4 (01:52:29):
Then already, then, where are you?

Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
Where the hell are you?

Speaker 4 (01:52:32):
Alrady?

Speaker 1 (01:52:33):
All yeah, I don't see him. I'm looking around. I
don't see you here. Where you are?

Speaker 15 (01:52:36):
I want to be heard, not scenes to know, basis,
and right now you don't need to know. Okay, all right,
I'm at the Ameral Queen Casino.

Speaker 4 (01:52:42):
My friend Okay, my friend.

Speaker 1 (01:52:44):
Hey, uh we had our friend John lundon.

Speaker 4 (01:52:47):
Earlier as he's back at CAMBR.

Speaker 1 (01:52:50):
So he's back at CAMBR.

Speaker 4 (01:52:51):
Came crawling back to the Sports Leader.

Speaker 1 (01:52:53):
Now, they crawled back to him, and they begged him.

Speaker 4 (01:52:55):
They kind of baged them. They actually did they really
get rid of Papa when he was in the hospital, but.

Speaker 1 (01:52:59):
They did, they did.

Speaker 4 (01:53:01):
It's really bad bunch of nerds.

Speaker 1 (01:53:03):
We were we were talking though about about like how
crazy this dumb business is. And I'll give him credit
because he didn't burn a bridge. Now, I said, I
know two people. They might both be on the air
right now together.

Speaker 13 (01:53:17):
You me.

Speaker 1 (01:53:19):
When they escort you out of the building as they
did the one, is there any chance that you would
ever be able to come back?

Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
The answer?

Speaker 15 (01:53:27):
I answer, like when they escort me out the building,
like I'm going to be here when I'm told I'm
no longer wanted.

Speaker 1 (01:53:34):
Yes, you're not coming.

Speaker 15 (01:53:35):
Oh, I would just I would give everybody a hug
and a kiss, and I would slide down the banister
to the parking lot. All right, I'd jumped down the
elevator shift. I wouldn't even wait for the elevator. Well,
here's a bunch of hole in a window, and fly
out of there.

Speaker 1 (01:53:50):
Here's what's bad. I was joking about it. I go, god,
I'll tell you right now, I softly that I would
probably go out like we would not handle it as well,
and they would probably be and I know they'd never
call us back. But I say that I go use
the restaurant. I come back in. We got that little
card key thing on our app on our phone, Andrews.
I came in here with like twenty seconds left, right, Yeah,

(01:54:10):
I couldn't get back in, and I'm like, ohkow, what
the last segment?

Speaker 4 (01:54:15):
You thought that was it?

Speaker 1 (01:54:16):
I had to have I literally had to have somebody
let me in. That came one of the sales do.

Speaker 15 (01:54:20):
Before year show. You're talking no, just down just now,
just just now. You thought they would whack here before
cross Talk? Right stop here.

Speaker 4 (01:54:28):
That's just for a couple of bucks back in your paychecks.

Speaker 1 (01:54:30):
That's uh, that's a Ryan Clark thing.

Speaker 15 (01:54:33):
Here says here you missed cross Talk on August eleventh,
it will be seventeen fifty.

Speaker 1 (01:54:37):
It's because you wouldn't let me back in. I could
not get back in. I wanted to talk to my
friend Dave, and the would let me back. But I
thought I thought, oh god, okay, well maybe.

Speaker 15 (01:54:44):
That'd actually be a pretty fun way to go if
Rich Moore or Marshall actually just uh went on the
air with me, walked in the door and said we
got an announcement.

Speaker 1 (01:54:53):
I's gone.

Speaker 4 (01:54:54):
We we were out.

Speaker 1 (01:54:55):
He went to the restroom. I never came back. That's like,
but I'm like, hey, can you let me into one
of the els? Be like, why things not working? I
don't know, you know, for some guys of your age.
That's how it happened, is right there, right there in
the toilet. Heel over, is there a better place to go?
You're doing one of your favorite things you like to do,
exactly my favorite thing. I mean really when you get to.

Speaker 4 (01:55:18):
It, and Andrews, let me explain something to your pal.

Speaker 15 (01:55:21):
That's what happens when you have a baseball team that
is on fire from the inside. It's the kind of
stuff you had to talk about when you're still a
few days away from me preseason opener. The baseball team
sticks bet what like? Talk about getting fired to the toilet.

Speaker 1 (01:55:35):
Better chance, better chance that one of us gets fired
on the on the on the crapper or Dan Wilson
gets fired.

Speaker 4 (01:55:42):
Ever you and me for yeah, you here that John
Stanton named his dog after Dan Wilson.

Speaker 1 (01:55:51):
You're joking. Please tell me, you tell me your true.

Speaker 4 (01:55:53):
Story that I just made up?

Speaker 1 (01:55:54):
Okay, Goods, what did shock the hell out of about?
I brought that? I was thinking about the Sharilier because
I heard you yesterday, and you know the Jeff Nelson thing,
which there isn't one person, oh God, that thinks that
that agrees with the marrior's decision.

Speaker 4 (01:56:12):
Of course not, of course not. But he's pissed, right, Yeah,
he's not happy.

Speaker 11 (01:56:17):
He's not.

Speaker 1 (01:56:17):
You can never I don't want to.

Speaker 4 (01:56:18):
I don't want to. I don't want to speak out
of term. But he's not he's not well.

Speaker 1 (01:56:21):
He shouldn't be, hope.

Speaker 15 (01:56:23):
Not only is he top fifty, he's probably top thirty
franchise history, well, number one in games pitched a you
kidding me, only middle reliever to make the All Star
Game three point whatever e er and you got Mike
Jackson in there, like, what are we doing?

Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
Dave Valley?

Speaker 5 (01:56:37):
Who?

Speaker 15 (01:56:37):
Look, we all love Dave Valley, but Dave Valley was
so bad that a sports bar was pricing their drinks
on his batting average.

Speaker 4 (01:56:45):
That's how bad he was. And he's top fifty.

Speaker 15 (01:56:48):
When you went to Swanne's een in nineteen eighty seven, yes,
and paid a dollar ten for a Schlitz, did you
ever think that Dave Valley would be in the top
fifty of all time maritors?

Speaker 1 (01:56:59):
Of course it was actually a rubbing coke, But yes, no,
I never thought that. By the way someone says they would, uh,
you can only have one fire, Dan Wilson or Katie Wilson,
which one.

Speaker 4 (01:57:11):
Fetus face. Anybody named Wilson has to go.

Speaker 15 (01:57:14):
Russell's already as we already got it a Russ A
russ were west and Wilson vetus face goes after and
then Weston, although we need Weston tonight because Naylor's banged up,
so we need Weston to night.

Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
What are we doing today?

Speaker 4 (01:57:29):
I don't know, man, Okay, what are we doing? What's today? Tuesday?
John Wilner joining us.

Speaker 15 (01:57:33):
We're gonna head to Detroit and get a take on
Terry on Arnold from our buddy Matt Deary locked on Lions.

Speaker 1 (01:57:38):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:57:39):
Greg Belle would join us as well.

Speaker 15 (01:57:41):
On the radio program, Greg get twenty Hey, how many
times can you do that without taking a breath.

Speaker 3 (01:57:50):
I'm not gonna tie it in there?

Speaker 5 (01:57:52):
You're ready?

Speaker 4 (01:57:52):
Time me right now, timey get the clock going, got
it start? Let me know we you're ready?

Speaker 5 (01:57:56):
Ready? Ready?

Speaker 4 (01:57:56):
There we go three two one Gregg.

Speaker 1 (01:58:05):
Seconds eight seconds.

Speaker 4 (01:58:08):
You know what that sounds like?

Speaker 15 (01:58:09):
By the way, it's like through a let table here
at the Emerald, Queen, it's you spin.

Speaker 1 (01:58:18):
Alright, Red twenty one sounds like you had too many
cocktails of the No.

Speaker 15 (01:58:25):
I just doubled my money I'm black. During the last
break the boy, I'm a happy camper. I'll give it
back in the next break, but for now, I'm a winner.
By the way, speaking of that, speaking of that branch,
Metro's on today. Thank god they won.

Speaker 1 (01:58:38):
Crap, You're always a winner in our heart. Deam, thank you.

Speaker 4 (01:58:41):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:58:41):
See for the mild mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness.

Speaker 4 (01:58:46):
