Then Jalen Milroe hops on to discuss Alabama and Texas football, how far he's come in the last 12 months, developing as a player and moving up the career ladder, looking forward to joint practices, being happy for Witherspoon and JSN's contracts and his thoughts on former teammate Terrion Arnold. Then Ian goes in on the Mariners and whether they can find a way into the playoffs, will Cal Raleigh ever turn things around and Josh Naylor starting to heat up. Then Joe Sheehan joins the show to talk about how he was right about Bryan Woo, looking at Altuve's big hit on Friday against the Mariners, whether Munoz should be pitching more than one inning, how the Brewers are so good right now and how the Mariners pitching will keep them in the playoff hunt. Then Joe Lund stops by to talk about the 49ers injury carousel, what we learned from the first preseason games and what Bill Rassmusen did for sports by founding ESPN. Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now from the Star Rentals Sports to us Jordan ninety
three point three k JRFM sports headlines, headlines back to
by Frost brew cords like Choos chill first or a
new report about quarnerback Terry and Arnold. Seahawks are still
planning to sign him, but it may take a while.
They're working through the time in According to Ian Rappaport
and Mike garra Foulla the NFL Network, he will be
placed on the NFL's Commissioner Exemplest. When he signs, he'll

(00:21):
be eligible, he'll be ineligible to play until the league
looks into the case. So we'll get more of that
in just a couple minutes.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Good news for the Sea X Rocky running back Jadarian Price
would turned the field at training camp yesterday, full participant
missed the last five with an upper leg sorenus issue.
Slid right in with the first team offense as well.
We'll discuss that to today. They need him, there's no
doubt about that. One of the Seahawks updates, Tory Harton
did not practice Monday. He is working through some things.
Quote from Mike McDonald. No update on Nick emn Worri

(00:48):
and outside linebacker Derek Hall miss practice again as well.
Maners had to Belwauking to be in a three game
series against the NL Central leading Brewers. Bryce Miller starts
for the MS, Kyle Harrison for the Brewers. Four game back.
Seattle is of Houston the Al West, two games out
of the wild card race, although there are a lot
of teams in between them and the rest of the
wildcard teams. We'll get to that coming up in just

(01:10):
a couple of seconds as well. Let's get the show started.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Here we go live from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center.
This is kjr's special coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought
to you by the twenty twenty six Boeing Classic cougus
fourteenth through the sixteen at the club at snow Qualmie Ridge.
Details at Boeing Classic dot com. Now here's Ian Fernets
on your home for the Super Bowl Champion twelve Man

(01:35):
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Well, I guess it's a good thing that this is
our last day at training camp. We can retire that
open boger because the Boweling Classic has already come and gone.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
We can That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
We were there on from the last show I did
was Friday at the Bowling Classic out there at the
Snowclawmbie Ridge.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
And yeah, that's it's it's.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Over, and this is this and I mean it was
we were there. We were in a little oven above
the eighteenth Green. I can tell you all I can
really tell you about that golf tournament.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Was it was warm. That's about all I can tell you.
But yeah, that's over, and this is it for us.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
This is our last scheduled day out here next to
the practice field, broadcasting outdoors from Seahawks training camp. Jalen
Milro is going to join us here in just a
few minutes, so stand by for that Seahawk quarterback out
of Alabama. We have got a good conversation with him
coming up and just as soon as we see him
appear from the locker room down to our right here,

(02:35):
we're on the northeast corner of the practice fields, right
next to Lake Washington.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Gorgeous view. I'll missed the view.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I'll miss being outside, miss seeing the eagle flying above
that you've seen probably on hard knocks as well.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Good run out here.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
It's quiet. I can tell you that it's very quiet.
This is a it's an interesting dynamic for those who came,
and I know a lot of you guys listening right
now came out to training camp over the last gosh,
is it like three weeks now? I think it's like
three weeks that we've had training camp.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
For those that did come out here and jumped on
the yellow school bus down at rent and Landing and
Major way up here to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center
when you arrived, when you were here, when you were
watching the pro the proceedings from the BERMU, there's you know,
at the top of the berm a bunch of tents
concessions and you can buy all kinds of gear and

(03:26):
all souvenirs and stuff on the on the walk in
to the facility when you get off the bus, there's
a bunch of food trucks out there and old boil
birdas out there giving away jerky sticks and things like that.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
And it's just it's kind.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Of a I'm gonna say this, and I think this
sometimes is a bad, right, kind of a carnival like atmosphere.
It just kind of it's, you know, everyone's it's just
a lot going on and a big vibe and a
ton of energy, and it's loud and fans are chance
when they get to this point in camp. Now, we've
had a few days where there weren't fans out here,

(03:59):
but anytime that weren't fans public wise, there were still
fans down to our right, there were still VIP fans
and sponsors and corporate sponsors, corporate partners, things like that
that we're here. So there's always a vibe. There's always
kind of like a there's something going on. Music's playing,
things like that. Now that they've shut her down, no
more fans coming out here. They're taking down the last
of the canopies up on top. One still has a canopy,

(04:21):
the other one is sitting there with just the framing.
Everything else is gone.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
It is.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
It is very very quiet, very mellow out here, and
just kind of a it's an interesting dynamic. It's just
I'd almost say it's suppressing. But the energy is lacking
for sure. It becomes a lot more business like. They
talk about it being I think in some ways like
regular season mode, if that makes sense. Trav Travis Moger

(04:48):
in today, we've got some vacations going on, so but
it's it's just kind of it's very business like and
if you watch Hard Knocks you it'll feel like a
real normal football practice. There's no more DJ out here.
There are I'm kind of looking over there. Yeah, there's
still a couple of speakers on the far side, so

(05:09):
they sometimes play a little bit of music. But it's
certainly not like the Pete Carroll day. So it's just
a little different vibe. It's a little different going on.
So let's get to some of the news of the
day on our final day here while we wait for
Jalen Milroe. I'll start with the news on Arry and
Arnold that we gave you in the updates. Ian Rappaport
reporting that, you know, he's going through the process right

(05:32):
now and they haven't signed him. And what I read
into this is we're not surprised. I mean, I'm a
little surprised that they've been so open, they being you know,
Mike McDonald specifically talking about the fact that they're gonna
sign this guy. They haven't signed him yet, but you know, hey,

(05:54):
we're signing him. The assumptions are going to sign them
what they're obviously they have an agreement in place, but
they're working through the logistics of what this means in
terms of the Commissioner's exempt list, and I think Greg
said it well earlier. Greg Bell said it well earlier
in the show. It's effectively a suspension until they figure

(06:14):
out they being the NFL, and maybe to a certain extent,
the judicial system, figure out exactly what his status is legally,
where he's at, what he's doing, where he's going to
be in all those things. And while they figure that out,
I know that they were hoping he would be practicing.
That's obviously not going to be happening this week, or
at least today or tomorrow, I don't think. But it's

(06:37):
also not a surprise, and I don't think you know,
it's a good headline with rap and Garifolo and all
those guys. That's all nice and fine, But honestly, it
really isn't a surprise other than just I thought maybe
they'd try to get him in this week, get him
on the field, get him to do a couple things,

(06:58):
and then kind of go from there. I mentioned this
last week, and I'm I truly feel this way with
what they're doing with him. It is a very low risk,
very high ceiling type of move. If he never plays
a down for you, it cost you nothing. Now, maybe

(07:18):
some would point out it cost you. You know, people
looking at you court a public opinion and looking down.
They're the defending Super Bowl champions. Their equity is higher
than anybody else in the league right now. They can
do those things, they can make them. They can make
a move that is maybe a little questionable in terms
of character and so forth. But if he never plays,
it doesn't matter, very low risk. If he does play,

(07:43):
if he does end up getting on the field at
some point, you've signed a guy that could well will
certainly help you from a football standpoint, and it costs
you not a lot like next to nothing in a sense.
I mean from that standpoint, it's just a perfect signing
in a lot of different ways, and it makes a

(08:03):
ton of sense for what Seattle wants to do. You
kind of have this extra bonus that's sitting there in
front of you that could end up being really good
and helping you out immensely along the way. So we'll
see what ends up happening with that. But the Terran
Arnold situation, I'm curious tonight watching Hard Knocks with episode
I was this episode three, right most Yeah, episode three, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
I would hope.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
And this is I mean, we got thea we got
Devin Witherspoon news a couple of weeks ago on the
first episode. We got the Terran Arnold situation, him working
out at the end of the last episode. Remember remember
the end of the last episode. They shot that one
a week ago, two days ago. We could go last
Sunday as when they shot that and turned it around

(08:48):
for the episode on Tuesday, and we saw him working out,
We saw the group talking about it, and then the
obvious and I keep saying, they signed him, They've come
to an agreement. I don't want to be erroneous in
what I'm saying, but we got that little behind the
scenes insight. I'm maybe we get a little more tonight
on Hard Knocks, Maybe we get a little bit more
of Hey, this is what he's doing, and this is
where this is how close he is, and you know,

(09:10):
here's what we're waiting for. And I mean, would that
would not surprise me at all if we got that
along the way. So we'll see what We'll see what
ends upcoming of that. When it's all said and done,
we'll get into some Mariners conversation. I didn't mention this
in the headlines, but kind of a cool thing. It is, Yes,
about the baseball team right now and on the field,
what's going on. We'll get to them a little bit
later on coming off the two straight wins over Houston

(09:32):
after what was probably one of.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
The worst losses of the year. If not the word
I mean, I don't.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Know that's saying a lot.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I was gonna say, ranking losses is ranking losses is
a little bit challenging. But that was one of the
worst ones. That was That was one of the worst
ones you could have on Friday, and then they bounce
back and then win the next two and blow out
on Saturday, and then they have a close win on Sunday,
they go down to Milwaukee. We'll get into them a

(10:01):
little bit later on the news. To me, that kind
of jumps out today and this is this is gonna
be really cool. On the final home stand of the season,
the that last weekend in September, they're going to have
a Rick Rizz kind of tribute that whole weekend. Four nine,
four to five one is the Tacoma Dodge text line
four nine four to five to one. I'm just curious folks,
what you what your thoughts are? What does Rick Riz

(10:23):
mean to you? You can fire those off if you like,
four nine, four to five one. We'll read some of
those a little bit later on. I just to me,
Rick is one of the true treasures in our community.
And I say our community. I'm not just talking about
on for the Mariners. I think just overall, what he's
done with his toy drive over the years is remarkable.
And some of the other things that Rick has done

(10:43):
and put together, it's just he's he's just a a
just a great asset to this whole area and this
whole community. Forty one years he remember, he took the
little brief respite where he took away, went over and
replaced the legend that is Ernie Harwell for a couple
of years and ended up coming back here. And we're
thankful for that. We're thankful that he came back to Seattle.

(11:04):
He came back in ninety five and he's been here
ever since. And Rick is retiring after this season. He is,
you know, for for a franchise that has not had
not a lot of success, and I'll be that's probably
being kind, right, Mokes. They haven't had a lot of
success on the field. Ye off the field, they've been
one of the best organizations in sports and in baseball,

(11:26):
and from what they do promotional wise and baseball promotions,
I know, people get upset they call all they care
about our bibbleheads and ferry boats with food in them
and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Baseball with eighty one home games, you've got to get creative.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
You've got to do things a little bit off, you know,
you just have to do different things, especially in a
you know, in a market that has a great ballpark
but it's not a destination of historic nature like Yankee
Stadium or Fenway Park or Wrigley Field, places like that.
They've done a great job off the field, they've probably
no better way than what they've done. Broadcast wise, they've

(12:03):
always been top shelf. And you know, many of us
in the business are probably more critical of broadcasters than others.
But listen, Dave n nee House, he's he was a Ford
Frick winner. He's in the Hall of Fame for a reason.
So we'd love that with with with Dave. And then
on top of that, you add in a guy like
Rick Riz who has I mean, I I don't know

(12:25):
if he'll ever get his due with the Hall of Fame,
like like Dave did. That's a hard I mean, they
put one guy in a year. I think it was
Joe Buck this year, who obviously was a national guy.
But what Rick has done and what he's meant for
this this community, and his voice sounds like summer, Goodbye baseball,
happy totals. He's just he's just a treat when he
you know, when Dave passed away the first Grand Slam

(12:47):
of the year, he used, get up the gag Rye bread,
Grandma Rye bread, mustard whatever, and you know, good and
all that, and it was awesome. And he even did
that last year. He used he he used Dave's call
last year with Gino's home run. So he is just
an absolute treasure to our entire community. And we've been

(13:07):
lucky to have him over all those years and greatly
appreciate everything he's done. And I frankly miss and I
say they had done a great job.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Dave was great. Rick was great.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Currently Aaron is really top shelf. I think Gary Hill
and I'm biased he's a koug and but I think
Gary is really damn good at what he does. And
I hope he takes over as the lead radio guy. Yeah,
they're not on our station, Fine, whatever, I just Gary,
I really enjoyed listening to Gary's call. Does a terrific job,
has a great passion for everything. So you know, we'll

(13:39):
kind of see where it all takes us over the
next few years. But they've done a great job broadcasting wise,
and obviously what they've done off the field. And Rick
riz right there to me, he's right there with Dave
and what he's done and what he's meant for this
organization since he took over all those years ago. One
thing I want to get into too, I wait for
Jalen Miler. I'm just gonna kind of take a peek
here and see where we're at with him trave and
see if we need to take a break or not.

(14:00):
In a minute, Yeah, they're coming out in a couple
of minutes. So one of the things that happened today
in sports, I didn't hit this in headlines. A gentleman
by the name of Bill Rasmussen died at the age
of ninety three. And it's somewhat ironic in this sense.
I saw Softy tweeted something last night and I'm gonna

(14:22):
go find it real quick. I had it earlier and
I lost it. Sorry, I wanted to reset the computer
out here on the Wi Fi. But the irony of
this that what Dave had a what Dave had a
post on the other day was that this gentleman died
And you say, who's Bill Rasmussen.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
He is.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
He is the founder of ESPN died of the age
of ninety three from Parkinson's. Dave tweeted this yesterday, and
it's funny that the timing is interesting. It's amazing outside
of a live sport event, how little I watch ESPN
and the STIPs I see on this appart making me
run to my TV. Either I'm like Phil call I
don't care anymore anymore more.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
And I read that and I thought, yeah to a
certain extent, and maybe maybe ESPN's a little bit like MTV.
It's just it's evolved, and depending on your age, you
have a different feel about what you think in regards
to ESPN. I'm gonna get into that a little bit

(15:23):
later on, because whatever you think of ESPN today should
not cloud your judgment in terms of what you think
about ESPN as a whole. For a sports fan, for
us doing what even what we do here, it's one
of the most important innovations we've had in our country's history.

(15:44):
And phil and Bill Rasmusson is the man to think.
And we'll talk about that a little bit later, because
it truly is one of the biggest things that we've seen,
you know, in a long time, and one of the
things that really is great about about what we do
in our business as well. So we'll get down a
little bit later too, and what his legacy is and
what ESPN is all about. I thought I saw our

(16:06):
guy walking down, Trav We're flirting with a break here.
It's a beautiful thing about live radio. We're pushing things
I don't want to necessarily. You know what I'm gonna do.
We're gonna take a break. The second I do that,
Travis be ready to come back, yep, because he'll be
walking out. But we'll take a break. We'll come back
and we'll have I thought he was walking out.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
No, we'll have Jalen.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Milroe coming up next. H Right, we're back in the
Virginia Mason Athletic Center. He infness with you here at
Seahawk Headquarters, Virginia Mason Athletics Center.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
I'd say training camp, and.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
I think it's still training camp, although there's no fans
or taking down all the stuff upstairs and all that stuff.
Jalen Milroe, quarterback is joining us right now. I've been
wanting to talk to you. I gotta tell you this.
I've been wanting to do this for a while because
my wife is from here.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
Let me fix out for you. This is we got that,
we got wires there we go, yeah go.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
My wife is from Alabama, all all her I got
half of my family, we've been married for a long time.
Half they're all from Alabama. And I get this all
the time. When are you gonna talk to Milroe? When
are you gonna talk to me? You gotta talk to
the al I said. I said, I talked to jar
and read all the time. Is that not good enough?
Now they want to talk to Jaylen Milroe. So this,
this interview is for all those listening on the iHeartRadio
app in Alabama right now.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
A Texas guy went to Alabama. How are you, man?

Speaker 7 (17:23):
I'm doing good. You're doing good.

Speaker 8 (17:25):
I want to give a shout out to them, roadside
road tide to them.

Speaker 7 (17:29):
But I'm doing good.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
You know how it's like when it's like down there too,
it's fun. We go down there every couple of years
and there's family reunions and we go and it's it
is a split family, and it's like it's Auburn and
it's Alabama, and like I see cousins, brothers, sisters, and
they it's like fistfights.

Speaker 9 (17:45):
Man.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Oh yeah, what like Now, you grew up in Texas,
so you you understand A and M in Texas.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
How different is Alabama Auburn than anything else you've seen?

Speaker 8 (17:54):
So I got to experience it once I got to
college because I wasn't used to Rarver. Of course you
hear about it, but the actually be involved with it
and to understand that like your neighbor could be an
Auburn fan, your neighbor could graduate from Auburn. My professor
was a graduate from Auburn, one of my math teachers.
So you encounter an Auburn fan throughout the whole year.
So it makes that week of the robbery even better

(18:17):
when it's time to play against him.

Speaker 7 (18:18):
So it's competitive for sure.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
It definitely means a lot because we get prepared for
that one game, you know, for all the fans they're
ready for it. And no matter if it's out there
in Auburn, no matter if it's in TUSSALUSA. It brings
a lot of joy to a lot of people in
the state of Alabama. So it's always fun to being
a part of rivory.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
What's the I'm gonna ask you this is almost like
asking somebody to pick your favorite child. But what's the
atmosphere like at an Iron Bowl? And I don't care
about Auburn, We don't, we don't worry about it. What's
the atmosphere like in Tuscaloosa for an Iron Bowl game
compared to the NFC Championship game last year at lumit.

Speaker 8 (18:53):
I say it's not fair because you go from one
hundred thousand fans to lesser fans in the NFL stadium. Yeah,
So of course I'll say NFL. I mean college is
much more louder, yeah, than it is in the NFL.
But I will say our fans bring a lot of juice,
you know, different than other fan bases, you know, being
able to experience my rookie year, going to different stadiums,
experience their crowd and their traditions. Lohman is number one.

(19:15):
I feel as though as far as the crowd, how
involved they are throughout the whole game, and you know
certain crowds you get, you know, the first quarter, there
lowed second quarter. Lohman, we're allowed the whole entire game
and especially even the preseason. But but I will say,
you know, Brian Danny brings a lot of juice. It's
it's very loud, impacts the opponent we're playing against. Yeah,
and uh yeah, it's it's a little different.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I've been lucky enough to cover this team for many years,
and I think at the only stadium we didn't go
to I didn't go to over the last fifteen sixteen
years that was Buffalo and not like a new stadium
that nobody likes. But I always I felt like Luhman
was very collegiate like. It has a very collegiate like.
It's just a very like it has. It's not corporate
like some places you go to so far corporate Levi's corporate,

(19:58):
right has that collegiate That's got to be a ton
of fun for a player.

Speaker 8 (20:01):
Oh yeah, Like that's because we worked during the week,
and so of course when we play on Sundays or
whatever day our game is that week we're excited to play.
And when you have your fan base that's passionate, looking
forward to Sunday whatever, we play like that, that means
a lot. You know, that means a lot for us
to first make them proud. Number two, we get the
feet off their energy. And then what's unique about our
crowd is we're calling twelves. Yeah, so they're a part

(20:23):
of our culture and part of our team, and it's
something special.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
That's kind of this whole culture this building, though, is
it not? Because I know last year was really a
big thing with Mike and with John Schneider. It wasn't
fifty three man roster. It was a seventy man roster.
Everything's included. The practice squad guys are included. You don't
see that a lot of times. What does that mean
in that locker room for guys.

Speaker 8 (20:43):
I think that's special because we're on the journey all together.
You know, the highs and lows, the positives. You know,
we're all in this together. You know, no matter what your
role is, you're helping the team out. You know, if
you're a practice squad guy, you're getting these ones ready
to play in the game. You know the looks that
we're getting on the Sunday, are coming from during the week,
the practice squad, guys giving us ready, getting us ready

(21:05):
during the week, and so I think that's something that
is very unique, very special. You know, once you go
throughout the whole season, is that it takes all of us,
you know, it takes all of us, us in the
locker room that's grinding, getting better, making sure they were
all perfecting our craft. So then when we play on
the weekends, we're ready to go.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Let me get your thoughts on Jail and Jail Milro's camp.
So far, those of us that are just dumb and
we're the media and we're watching from afar, feels like
there's been a massive step for you from last year
to this year. Watching you in practice and and the
workouts and everything like that, whether it be you know,
nine on seven, eleven on eleven, or just the individual drills.

(21:42):
How far do you think you've come in the last
twelve months.

Speaker 7 (21:45):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 8 (21:46):
I think my goal every year, no matter of it's
now or next year, is to be better than I
was the year before. Even when I stepped into college
my freshman year looking way different than my sophomore year.
So like steadily growing, having that competitive edge that I
always gonna get better the next day I get the
opportunity I have to touch the field, the opportunity I
have to be in the meeting rooms and to grow each.

Speaker 7 (22:06):
And every day.

Speaker 8 (22:07):
And so I think that's something that's necessary being a quarterback.
You got to be able to grow, You got to
be able to relate, you got to be able to build.
And so also having your first first time ever having
an off season and so having that timeframe to understand
the system as a whole, and then branching off going
to your quarterback coaches and working your craft and working schemes,

(22:29):
working different things because now you understand how the league is.
It's very important and so now it's all about being fast,
free and fearless. You know when you take the field,
and you know relating back that man like you're here
for a reason, You're here for a reason, You're drafted
here for a reason, and understanding that you know, That's
something that's I love a lot is coach coach Mike's
and our our relationship because he's always pouring into me,

(22:52):
making sure that I'm continuing to build, getting better, learning
and growing because it's gonna be a point where my
options he's gonna psent us.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Jalen Milroll with me is part of that. Like being
a freshman in red shirting, maybe for even a couple
of years.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
You got a guy like Sam in front of you.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
It's just named the top twenty player in the league,
and you know, have the year that he had.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
You got to vet like Drew Locke ahead of you
right now. And I don't know if it's your competitor.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
You don't play at Alabama, if you don't want to
compete at the highest level like it just does, that's
just not what happens third round pick. But you're unique
in the sense you didn't have to come in here
right away and take snaps game one of your rookie season.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
You get to develop a little bit.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
How do you balance the competitive nature that you have
in you with the knowing that, hey, I've got four
years to really just kind of be calm the best
version of myself.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
How do you balance that?

Speaker 8 (23:41):
I think there's a misconception when it comes to development,
right Like, if you look at the workforce, you're not
going to get a promotion right away once you get
to that that workforce. You have to build, You have
to get better, You have to learn to the necessary tools.
You got to learn to hyperfecting your craft so that
when your time has comes in that profession, you able
to season. Now you get a promotion. Yeah, you know
my dad's is a cat, then that is work force.

(24:01):
He had to start off as a police officer. Then
lieutenant didn't have to have the build. Just like playing quarterback,
you know, you have to go through stages to get
to that get to that point, right, Like if you
look at my rookie class of last season, a lot
of those guys played because someone got hurt. It wasn't
like they just took over and it was gave them
the job. They had to earn, the position they had.
They had the soone got went down, then they went
in and played.

Speaker 7 (24:22):
Different than my case.

Speaker 8 (24:23):
We had a really good starter that played really well,
led us to a super Bowl and deserving all the
success he had. And so as a young guy, why
not learn from that? Why not be able to take
notes and inherit all these things, because when it opportunity
presents itself, I'm going to have years of experience that
I've learned from Drew Sam uh, coach the play caller, coach,

(24:44):
coach Kubiak that it's gonna be necessary for when I'm
able to play. You know, my time at Alabama as
well is I credit my time being the backup behind
Bryce to the success I had in college because during
that time frame, you see football in different lenses. You're
not playing, So then now you're trying to see he
has the play through, the player callers lenses, the starter,
what he sees, and so that it changed your perspective.

(25:06):
And so it's so many good. It's so many good
to keep on building.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
What's what's Sam? How is Sam?

Speaker 5 (25:11):
For you?

Speaker 2 (25:11):
He's also if nothing else, everything you just described is
Sam Darnold. Like he became great in the NFL at
what age twenty seven to twenty eight? Right right, right,
like after some stops and as we all know, don't
go to the Jets. That's good, but like in all seriousness,
like right that is does he kind of is a
guy that you can talk to and kind of work
off of a little bit and be also looked at

(25:32):
and say, hey, that's that's kind of the model.

Speaker 8 (25:33):
I like, Yeah, I think one thing that we both
can relate on is that we both had the same
quarterback coach, right, So I've seen him in training, I've
seen him perfect this craft. And also with his time
experience been on multiple teams, he's seen a lot. He's
seen a lot office, seen a lot of ball, and
during that time frame, he's had a growth mindset.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:53):
If you look at Drew as well, he's.

Speaker 8 (25:54):
Been on multiple teams as well, and he's had a
growth mindset and understood what's near be a starter in
the NFL. And also he had no problem you know,
pouring into me, pouring in the Drew And so I
think that's pretty cool from him.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
And he's just a good dude to be around.

Speaker 8 (26:11):
And I and I enjoy and that's not everywhere, you know,
sometimes you know, the quarterbacks room hate the starter. That's
the opposite for us. We enjoy being around each other
and it's fun.

Speaker 7 (26:20):
You know. We don't have a toxic room at all.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
No, well, I think we.

Speaker 8 (26:22):
If you watch Hard Knocks, I have not, and I
want to binge watch it at the end of the season.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Okay, Okay, that's that's probably a good call. I can
tell you this.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
For Seayawk fans and even people like us, we've covered
the team forever. It's kind of it's really fun to
see behind the season like we see out here. We
think we know some things right and we don't. So
it's been a ton of fun. And I mean, I
think what we've seen everybody comes across so in such
a good way. What do you need to get done
this out the next two weeks in the preseason?

Speaker 8 (26:46):
Yeah, I think you personally, Yeah, for sure, leading leading
clean operation a team, to lead our offense, build each
and every game. You know, with different defenses, you're going
to see a lot different things. You know, playing this
weekend is tight and they do some different things with
the solid defense and they then last week with the Cowboys.
So just seeing different defenses responding, have a plan at

(27:08):
the court, opposition, and just go out and ball up.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
You got a rep a little bit, right, Yeah, I
mean it's it's tough because everyone's battling. You've got some backups.

Speaker 7 (27:17):
You got this.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
You know they had you with the two's a lot
last week in terms of the offense. Uh, but then
you're in there was some threes and so there's probably
I would think for a quarterback it might be the
hardest thing this preseason is it absolutely.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
Yeah, it's tough, I believe it at that it's uh,
are you looking forward to joint practices?

Speaker 7 (27:33):
I cannot wait.

Speaker 8 (27:34):
It's fun because it's it's a blessing in this guys,
because you know, we're going against the best defense, yeah,
in the in the whole league. But also good to
see different defenses, you know, being around different schemes and
be able to compete like last year going against the
Packers and joint practice, like of course we go against
our defense now seeing you know, the Packers defense, that
was great, you know, So it's always fun competitive.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
You know, you don't have to deal with listening to
Devin with spoon talk right, and.

Speaker 6 (28:02):
He got juice, got great personality.

Speaker 4 (28:05):
What was it like when he came in with that
one hundred million dollar contract in the locker room?

Speaker 8 (28:09):
What I loved about it was a teen comaraderie and
they were all happy for him.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yeah, I was that.

Speaker 8 (28:14):
I was the coolest thing like MSN right, yeah, yeah,
everybody was genuinely happy for them because of how great
of a player there are, but also great people.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Last thing for it, I'm just going to leave this
very open because we saw it. This is it's a
really cool. Most since you haven't watched Hard Knocks, there's
a cool moment Hard Knocks and Mike McDonald John Shutter
talking and I'm talking about Terry Arnold. You're a teamate.
They go, we've talked to Jalen. Jalen speaks highly of him.
I will say this, I don't want to give you
a spoiler because you can watch it later. They speak
very highly of you and what your opinion is, and

(28:43):
your background, where your family comes from, military family, dads
and plaw enforcement, and they talked say, Jalen really says
good things about it. So it's kind of cool that
a second your guy, They went to you. What can
you tell people about Terry Arnold?

Speaker 8 (28:56):
Well, this is my best friend that I consider my brother.
This is someone that it means a lot to me
because we started the journey together. We're both in the
same recruiting class at Alabama, so we started the journey
being the backups, grinding our tail off, grinding together, competing
each and every day, being around His room was like

(29:16):
two rooms away from mine at the dorms. To this
some one I spent a lot of time with, and
during this whole time frame, we got each other better
and to see now that we're both in the NFL,
seeing you know where his direction his life is going.
He's very very, very talented, of course we all know that.
But he's very smart and intelligent. He's gonna bring a
lot of juice to our defense. He's gonna work hard,

(29:37):
of course, but also understanding that he's there, he's here,
the better the team. You're not gonna detriment the team.
He's here, the better the team, and only bring Jordan
to our defense.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Again, the spoiler is that they really appreciate your opinion,
and I think we all do too, and appreciate having
the conversation. And I can tell you this cousin Dez,
cousin Eric down there in Alabama.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
All Right, they'll be listening to this on the podcast later.
All right, Old Tide Roll.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Tide Baby, that is Jalen Milroll will take a break,
come back with more next a nine three point three KJFM.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Now back to Ian Forness at the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center and our special coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought
to you by the Boeing Classic on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ r FM.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
LL right, we're back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center
on a Tuesday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
He infnests with you.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
It's very quiet out here, practice getting in a way
about twenty minutes or so as the Hard Knocks cruise here,
they're getting out, getting ready to go and getting their
getting their stuff set up in episode three tonight, which
will be interesting, Like I was mentioned to Jalen Milroe, Trav,
is that be interesting to see what we get behind
the scenes that that comes out of you know, the

(30:50):
the Terry and Arnold signing. Yeah, we watched episode three
tonight of Hard Knocks. I would assume we'll have more
because it all kind of came down over the last
seven eight days since that last episode is aired. Uh,
so we'll see what those guys are saying. Maybe we
get some inside on when they think he's going to
be ready. Uh you know, I mean we can see
the story. It's a beautiful thing about Hard Knocks. They
get information and they get stuff that none of us get. Uh,

(31:11):
and then all of a sudden it pops up on
HBO on demand at six pm Pacific time tonight and
we go heh, there we go, got a story.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
Yeah, that's It's really cool how how much access they have.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
It's what what have your impressions been?

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Is someone that's really not out here all that offer, right,
what's your what's your impressions?

Speaker 3 (31:26):
It's great.

Speaker 4 (31:27):
I love it.

Speaker 10 (31:27):
I'm I'm shocked by how much access they're getting into,
you know, Schneider's process and and behind the scenes in
the front office and everything that they're capturing there.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
It's it's really really cool.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
The NFL teams love to work under the veil of secrecy, right,
they liked it. They like to operate with no one watching,
no one talking, just do their thing. And you know,
I you know fighting for a long time. You heard people,
Oh they did see XCX. Don't want let the secret
saucekeet out. Wait, I haven't heard that when Pete was here, right,
and Pete was a little bit more of an open
book than Mike McDonald is and John Schneider. But no

(32:03):
team wants anything out. Every teams that way, every teams
shutting down. Fact, when we were working the Cowboys the
Cowboys game last week, the producer we had for our
radio call was telling us, and the Cowboys are an
interesting group because Jerry Jones wants fans at every single
practice in Oxen or California, and they're they're not nearly

(32:26):
as restrictive in terms of what can be shot. Like
if you're a fan that comes out here, you're told, hey,
do not shoot, video, do not shoot. You know, stills
media were after the first ten minutes, we can't do
anything video wiser or still picture wise, they shut things down.
It's even now, it's even tighter now that they kind
of go it. They kind of call it regular season

(32:46):
mode is where they're at right now. So you have
all those things going on. Well, the Cowboys are like
that are a little bit more open and like there's
other teams. Cowboys last week when they had their joint
practice with the Rams, they were veryve in what they
were able to show the media, and like a lot
of times they'll show like entire practices almost like from
up above where you can see formations and everything else.

(33:08):
That was not the case with the with the open
scrimmage or with the scrimmage with the Rams, so they
shut things down.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
That's as as a.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
As a general rule, NFL teams are quite paranoid. That's
just the way they operate. So sure, but yeah, well
we'll be fun to watch that game that tonight. We
Rick Riz Weekend. I saw some texts already. We'll get
to those coming up a two thirty today, Rick Riz
week in the final homestand of the season. They're gonna
honor Rick all weekend as he retires from the game

(33:38):
after forty one years. Call and play by play? What
does Rick Rizz mean to you? Four nine, four or
five one? We'll get to that later. To me, that
just the sound of summer, which I love. I love
just the voice when you hear Rick. But I think
more much more than that, he's a great broadcaster, but
more importantly, he's a great asset to our community. So
we'll get some of those a little bit later on.
We'll touch in on the Mariners in the next segment

(33:58):
a little bit more too.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
We'll get to them.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
And what this is the next three games play. If
I would have told you that Milwaukee had the best
record in Major League Baseball, and maybe you hadn't been
keep an eye on the standings, would you believe me,
like the Milwaukee Brewers the best record in baseball right now?
Matt Holkins want to call him this morning in the
Times that I thought was rather interesting.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
In a sense.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
It's an argument against the salary cap. In other words,
we don't need the salary cap, and I say an
argument against it because Milwaukee is not a high spending team.
Yet they have been consistently a playoff team and or
a playoff contender for a while now. They haven't won it,
but they have been there. They also had a long,
long dry spell of not getting to the playoffs. It

(34:44):
some ways makes what the Mariners have gone through a
pales in comparison.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
Somewhat.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I don't feel sorry for them because I'm a bitter
old man, and I also know where the Milwaukee Brewers
came from. They were the Seattle pilots for wopping one
season in nineteen sixty. I mean, then they move there.
They're not quite that. They're certainly not the Sonics in
Oklahoma City because of the long tenure, but they're they're
right up there. It's so I don't really feel sorry

(35:09):
for them. So I say, go get three from these clowns.
Although that's gonna be awful difficult. We'll kind of get
into that. Also, a line that has been uttered far,
far too many times this season has been uttered again
and set again over the last few days, and we're
gonna get into that and maybe just maybe the tired
old line is going to come to fruition. I'll tell

(35:31):
you what that is coming up, and then we'll spend
some time a little bit later on, maybe about one
forty five, and also with Lund coming up at two o'clock,
just paying tribute to Bill Rasmuson who passed away the
founder of one of the co founders of ESPN September seventh,
nineteen seventy nine. ESPN one on the air, and for
most people listening right now, you probably can't even fathom

(35:52):
a world without twenty four to seven sports channel, much
less what do they have ESPN You, ESPN News, which
is not really ESPN News anymore, ESPN and ESPN two.
Right I think they have four full time channels right now,
plus ESPN plus. And probably most people can't fathom a
time when there was no ESPN and there's no twenty

(36:14):
four to seven programming. But it goes far deeper than that.
We'll touch it on that a little bit later on.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
If you missed it.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
We'll play the quote back from Jaln Milroll talking about
Terry and Arnold and who and what he is. We'll
do that coming up in the one o'clock hour, and
again Joe Sheen at Won twenty All Things Baseball, John
Lond at two o'clock. We're at Seahawk Headquarters of Virginia
Mason Athletic Center.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
Nine three point three k TERRFM.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
Now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests. Your ninety three
point three KJRFM sports.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Headlines All right. Headlines are brought to you by frost
brewed cores like chews Chill. The first a new report
about quarnerback Terry and Arnold. Seahawks are still planning to
sign Arnold, but it will take a while. They're working
through the timing. That's according to the NFL networks seeing
a rappaport. He'll be placed on the NFL Commissioner's Exempt
List when he does sign, meaning he'll be ineligible to
play or practice while the league looks into his case.

(37:03):
It's gonna take a while, folks, that's the translation there.
It's going to take a while probably before we see
him on the field, that least, according in rap Apart.
I'll say that and then trave you know what's gonna
happen here in about ten minutes, I'm gonna look out there.
I'm gonna see a new guy in the field named
Terry Arden.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
No, I'm just.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
Saying, the way this stuff works, what we think is
gonna happen, rarely does it happen.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
That's all I'm saying. Good news for the Seahawks though.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Rookie running back j Darian Price he returned the field
of training camp yesterday full participant. That's missed the last
five practices, excuse me, with a sore upper leg. He
slid right in with the first team offense as well.
Other Seahawks updates, Tory Horton did not practice Monday. Mike mcdonald'
say is working through some things. God, that's the most
peak Caroline ever. God, that's a peak Caroline. But that's
what he said, quote unquote, he's working through some things.

(37:52):
That just it's like the reincarnation of Pete Carroll with
that sound bite. No up, not that Peet's passed away
or anything. It's just that's a Pete. Isn't Nona to
update on Nick even Worri and outsider outside linebacker Derek
Hall also misspractice again. It's August eighteenth, so we're okay
so far. Manners are in Milwaukee. They start a three
game series against the NL Central and MLB leading brew crew,

(38:15):
the Milwaukee Brewers. Bryce Miller starts for the MS and
Kyle Harrison for the Brewers. Sattles four games back in
Houston in the AL West, two games out in the
wild Card race as well. Moving into our number two
of the show, All right, Mariners start a series tonight
against the Brewers. Who would have thought the best team

(38:38):
in Major League Baseball would be named the Milwaukee Brewers
on August eighteenth, two thousand and twenty six, the year
of our Lord.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
But that's the case.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Best record in Major League Baseball, not the highest payroll,
but just the best record.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
We'll see what the next three games brings. This one,
it's all said and done when they won two of
three games over the weekend against Houston Astros, especially with
what happened on Friday, with that just absolutely devastating extra
inning loss. You take a two run lead in the
tenth inning, like game over, like flat out game over.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
Has to be over, right, trav gott to be over.
You're up seven to five.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Not only did you get the ghost runner in, you
add another one on top of it for an insurance run.
Things are looking swimmingly good for the Mariners at that point,
and then we all know what happened. A couple excuse
me hits and then a blast by Walker. Game over,
Thanks for coming, and we move on to next two games,
which they did win. They end up the weekend four
back of Houston. Nobody played last night that matters for Seattle,

(39:36):
so that's a good thing. So there's still four games
back in Houston.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
The good news in the.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Wildcard races are two out of wildcard three. The bad
news there not bears bad news there with the wildcard
race on the surface doesn't look too daunting. A two
game lead is in baseball is nothing like that's a
that's a good series, and you're right there. The bad
news is there are five teams. They're tied right now

(40:04):
with sixty one wins ahead of Seattle. Baltimore, through what
must be a myriad of different tie breakers, is sitting
in wildcard three. And then there's four other teams with
sixty one wins in the American League Wildcard chase. Cleveland
is a half game or one game ahead of Seattle.
They have sixty wins, so not only your two back,

(40:28):
but you've got a lot of traffic in front of you.
It comes down to this, and I'm gonna get to
the line in a second. But there's seven teams for
the final wildcard spot.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
I know.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
When Anders is here, he says this a lot, and
I'm starting more and more to agree with him that
it might be division or bust because of all the traffic.
There's this muddy middle, this math that they've got going
on right now, all these other teams. It might be.
It might be division or bust for the postseason this
year for Seattle. Now, if you were gonna tell me

(40:59):
that they were gonna get in as a wild card
back in March, I'd be like, what a disappointing year.
Now you'd almost take it? Yeah, oh yeah, Like now,
just like like like if somebody said to you, now,
you could you know, the old softy you can only
have one. Do you take a wildcards guaranteed wildcard spot
or take your chances with the division. I think I
would just take the wildcard spot right now. But you're

(41:23):
still a ways away, like you got You're still a
ways away from that. To get to that point though,
as we said over and over again, they have to
have better performances from their better players. Now, in a
positive note, Brian was giving you a couple of good
opportunity or good good games. His last two road starts
on this both very good. So that's been a good thing.

(41:46):
I'll stay let me go with the negative again for
a second. And because this is the line we hear,
uh boy, I think they might have just actually woken
things up. They might have just cranked it up. They
might have They might have turned the corner with this game,
or with this bat or with this home run. How
many times have we said that this season that might
have been the catalyst, that might have been the jump start,

(42:07):
That might have been what gets this team going as
a whole or an individual as a whole. And there
is no person none more so that we've heard that
for than Cal Rawley, like over and over and over again.
That might have got Cal going that at bat, that

(42:29):
home run, that swing, that walk, that great at bat
he had that maybe he's changed his approach, maybe things
are going there. And what Cal did the other night,
big big blast, Maybe that turned him around. But then
you look at the road, at the numbers, this is
a guy that on this road trip is still two

(42:51):
for twenty if he does have five walks, but two
for twenty eight strikeouts. Yes, he's got the home run,
a big home run that ended up being the difference
on Sunday. And if you just go back to the
previous homestand cal Raleigh is six for his last forty

(43:11):
seven with sixteen strikeouts, yikes? Did that one swing on
Sunday and Houston change things for cal Rawley? Did that
one swing turn things around for cal? Time will tell,
But we've been teased over and over and over again
that hey, we're going to start seeing the real cal Rawley,
and we have yet to see it. One swing does

(43:33):
not change who and what you are.

Speaker 4 (43:35):
It just doesn't.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
But maybe in the back of his mind, in the
most in some way cerebral game, a game that is
based on a lot of times just confidence, maybe that
does get him going. But well, what a task you
have against the next three games against and really frankly
coming up as well over the next couple weeks. We
talked about this gauntlet that they're in the midst of

(43:58):
right now in terms of their schedule. I mean, obviously
Houston before that the Yankees, they go Milwaukee and then
the Cubs come here, and then they go to Philadelphia
and at Toronto and then at Boston. I mean, it's
it is not easy coming up. Okay, So that's the negative,
that's the part they're like, Okay, I'll believe cal Raley's
turned things around when when we actually see more than

(44:19):
like one at bat out of twenty that's worthwhile or
one swing of the bat. I mean, he's just becomes
such a one trick pony. It's home runner, bust, home runs,
strikeout or walk. Those are your three options every time
Cal's up, home runs, strikeout, or walk. And there's been far,
far too many of the strikeouts. There's been a handful
of walks. On base percentage getting a little bit better

(44:41):
than that. Here's the guy that I actually am more
encouraged for. And this is the part and again I'll
go back. I'm gonna reference Culkins Rode a great story.

Speaker 4 (44:49):
In the Time to day.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
It's very much worth reading. You know, he talks about
the under achieving guys Julio Naylor. Cal put a little
bit of blame, actually not a little put a lot
of blame on what's going on with them right now.
On the on Topoto and it just kind of roster construction.
Maybe he's not the guy to get him quote over
the top. But here's where the optimism could come from

(45:11):
is what we have started to see from Josh Naylor.
And Naylor is an interesting guy because the batting average
has been climbing, but really we're kind of thinking, are
we ever going to see the power again? Are we
going to see him crank it up in that regard? Well,
we're starting to see that with Josh Naylor. He is
starting to get going. He's hitting three This is since

(45:34):
the All Star break. Naylor three twenty average, six doubles,
two home runs, albeit they both came in one game,
eight RBI, nine walks, but a three d on base percentage,
slugging at four forty three, which is far better than
any where he was, and his ops a very respectable
eight twenty three.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
So maybe Naylor's the guy.

Speaker 2 (45:56):
That we need to look for to continue to try
to carry this offense because it ain't happening with Cal
And unless Cal gives you a couple of weeks, I
don't think there's any reason to believe that cal Raley
is going to do anything for this team. Besides frankly,
continue to disappoint. But Josh Naylor's got it going. Josh
Naylor is not just heating up with slappy singles. He's

(46:20):
starting to heat up overall with everything else. The cal
Raley situation. The saddest part about that. We were actually
in Westport this weekend, my wife and I and our
two kids and their significant others, and all four kids
are big Mariners fans. My daughter, I've talked about her

(46:41):
a lot. She's angry Mariner fan. School teacher Brianni. She's
very angry all the time, angry. But we were talking
about this because it got brought up last week. Cal
Raley is on pace to have the worst season in
terms of batting average for a qualifying player in Major
League Baseball history. He's hitting one fifty eight. Wow, the

(47:03):
bar is one sixty eight. Like just remarkable, just absolutely remarkable,
the fall that this guy's had. I mean, I I
don't think you could have got Vegas odds at the
start of the year. Maybe Calshie one of those other
sketchy sites does it, like, yeah, you know, what are
the odds?

Speaker 7 (47:22):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (47:22):
Cayl Rawley having the worst year ever in terms of
botting average of a major league player, like you probably
wouldn't want to mint if you could put money on
that one fifty eight and one sixty eight is the
worst ever. I know we talked about this with Moiwap
last week. I know, those guys maiwap yesterday without me,
damn them. But that's that's where they're at right now.
Can he get going?

Speaker 3 (47:41):
But also nobody saw this coming.

Speaker 10 (47:43):
I mean, you knew he'd have a drop off from
last season, but this big of a drop off.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
I think my bigger concern is not this year too, Travis.
My bigger concern is next year. Like that's my bigger concern.
He wasn't a one hit wonder because he had a
hell of a year. You know, he had a couple
a good little stretch of a couple of years where
he was he was good. So that's it's It's not
it's not like, hey, you know, one hit wonder last

(48:10):
year was out of I mean the home runs were obviously,
I mean he you know, he's a thirty five on
a decent year, normal year, he's probably a thirty five
home run guy, and then he obviously goes crazy last year.
But my bigger concern is a guy that could turn
thirty in November this year, So he's twenty nine, almost
thirty years old, and the guy that plays that demanding
of a position behind home plate and is in there

(48:31):
every day, the body's getting wrecked. My bigger concern is
the drop off going to continue? Is it going to
be not to this level next year. I don't think
that's going to happen. But the bigger concern would be
what happens, you know, is he can he get back
to being a two twenty five to thirty thirty five
forty home run guy.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
I mean he's got fewer hits this year than he
had home runs last year. Now that should change. It
should change, Uh, not sure if will. No, it should change,
but he's got fewer this year they had last year
in terms of his versus home runs. So my concern
is that because that line we hear over and over again, well,
that'll be the game that turns things around, That'll be
the game that switches. I don't even know if there's
such a thing. I'll ass I'll ask Baseball stats nerd

(49:15):
Joe Sheen coming up in the next segment. I don't
think there is momentum because if there is there would
have been negative momentum on Friday night, and yet look
what they did on Saturday and Sunday, like they as
a team, they stepped up. Now, pitching was great, especially
with Wu. Good for him, and he's been a lot
better lately as well. So we'll get all we'll get
into all of that coming up here as the day

(49:36):
goes on. Our buddy Joe Sheen's going to join us
in just a couple of minutes. We'll get John lundon
come on, coming up today at two pm. We'll touch
it on a number of topics With Lund. I actually
did his show on well he's still doing a national
This guy's a maniac. He's doing a national show on Saturday.
So I'm driving to Westport Saturday night after the baseball
game or after the Seahawk game, fight my way through traffic,

(49:58):
and I did a national show with him. We were
talking about all the forty nine ers injuries, which continues
to happen.

Speaker 4 (50:02):
So we'll, uh, we'll.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
Touch it on him with the latest on the injuries
and much more with our guy coming up. That's John
lund at two p m. Today, So we all lot
coming up today. John London too. When we come back.
Our guy Joe Shean is going to join us Joshian Newsletter.
I gotta ask about this Milwaukee Brewers team too. I'll
be the first to admit I don't watch a lot
of National League Baseball, so don't always keep up on
what they're doing out there. What they're doing right now

(50:24):
is pretty damned spectacular. So we'll check in with him.
Coming up next nine three point three KTERFM.

Hello, sir, how are you.

Speaker 11 (51:33):
I'm a little peet.

Speaker 4 (51:35):
Uh oh uh oh uh oh okay, all right, Brian wu.

Speaker 11 (51:39):
Bran consecutive good starts on the road and Anders changes jobs.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
I gotta tell you a fun story. So we are well.
We I took yesterday off. I went down on Saturday.
It's a rare occasion. We have older children that we
can get them and their significant others together. So my wife, myself,
our son, daughter and their significance went down to Westport
on the Organ or on the Washington Coast.

Speaker 4 (52:09):
Had a great time.

Speaker 2 (52:10):
And on Saturday, Sunday afternoon, late afternoon our time, we uh,
the kids and me left the wife in the condo
she could chill We went to a little brewery shout
out to Blackbeard's Brewing by the way in Westport, great
little spot. Went there, watched the first few innings of
the game, kind of hanging out, having some fun, and

(52:30):
Brian Woo dealing, and I told him the story of Yeah,
on Tuesday, I'm gonna have to eat this thing because
Joe's gonna be on with us, and he's been telling
us stop stop worrying about road. Brian wu and I
and I and I'm not listening.

Speaker 4 (52:47):
I was not rooting against him. I'm not that guy.

Speaker 2 (52:50):
I'd rather root we have it staying on our show
when Jess was doing it, Andrews was doing it with me,
root to be wrong. We were rooting to be wrong
Joe and Lo and Belie Old. I said, I'm gonna
have to eat it. I didn't think that you would
go right at Andrews though, so I appreciate that I
blame it all on him.

Speaker 11 (53:06):
Well, it was the second one in a row.

Speaker 5 (53:07):
Tuesday night.

Speaker 11 (53:08):
We talked last week about we starting at Yankee Stadium.
That was a pretty factive start as well. So I
just that's fine if he wants to change ups rather
than going you talk to me on air about it.
That's you know, I understand.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
Hey, the best you know the best part about this.
Joe I had no idea that he wasn't with me today.
I had none. Like we we we put we put
schedules out, and it always says it's just copy and paste.
I think, and I look down. I'm like, I texted Anders,
I go, hey, we're going to do this day. I said,
you're probably gonna hear from We're probably I said, we
are probably going to hear from Joe about road Brian Woo.

(53:40):
He goes, Oh, I'm actually not on the show and
doing the morning show today. I'm like, oh, isn't that convenient? Fella,
isn't that convenient? So hey, listen, let's give you credit.

Speaker 6 (53:49):
You were right.

Speaker 2 (53:50):
Nothing to see here, nothing to worry about, roade, Brian
wu is not a thing.

Speaker 11 (53:54):
Well, I think we can leave it at that. Ian,
you're talking to you and have a good affde I'm
gonna say something stupid. I'm gonna ruin it.

Speaker 4 (54:05):
No, you're not, No, you're not well. I mean, hey,
they needed it.

Speaker 2 (54:09):
I mean they after what happened Friday in Houston, what
happened in New York, and they need they needed that
series win.

Speaker 6 (54:17):
Now.

Speaker 2 (54:17):
The hard thing is this time of the year, they
gained just one game over the weekend and they still
have this massive logjam in the wild card race, and
we'll get to Milwaukee in a second where they start
a series.

Speaker 7 (54:27):
Now.

Speaker 2 (54:27):
But let me just all joking aside, let's go back
because you you've been telling us, let's not worry about
Brian wu They needed him to be great in both
of those starts, and he was and in your mind
probably not a lot different.

Speaker 5 (54:41):
No.

Speaker 11 (54:41):
I saw most of both starts, not all of them,
more of the Houston one, and he looked like Brian
moot and me, I didn't see any any differences. I
think that. Yeah, we talked about this last year, like
how do you order these guys for the postseason? And
I'm I still think I have them. I mean, I
love George Kirby, I'm talking about Kirby with you for years,
but I think I still probably go Gilbert Kirby Miller
uh setting up for the postseason, and it's not un

(55:03):
compent on matchups in ballpark and stuff like that. But
to me, Brian whu Is is this team's number two
ahead of the other two guys, and you know, you
just hope to gains. She has to put him on
the mounds in a short series and I will see
how it goes. You mentioned watching sat was a Sunday's
game Friday. I can't I still can't believe what I
watched on Friday, with the comeback from five to two
down early and Jose al two bay and this right

(55:25):
now is a two game swing in the division. Jose
al two by hitting a pitch that I don't know
what more Andres Luos could have done. I mean, this
thing was very This thing was over by sea tack
and he and Al two bays two reaches out Hoax
hits little duck snort into wakefield. Tide of the game.

(55:45):
Dultin var show does much the same with the next
time up, and then of course Walker hits a ball
all the way to Vancouver. I I don't know, like
the season could come down to AL two by poking
that ridiculous breaking ball, you know, hundred and twelve feet
of the year. I'm stunned by it, and I'm impressed
by the way they bounced back the next two days.

(56:05):
You know, if you talk about momentum and that's as
difficult a loss as I've seen a team take. And
they did come back and win the next two games
on the road.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
I wanted to I'll to me a hit for a second.
I'm gonna go back to that for a moment because
I just mentioned my kids. My daughter was a fast
pitch player, and my god, I felt like I was
watching a fast pitch game. I mean, that's what like
if you're a good especially high school girls. I'm I'm
no expert on it, but I mean I watched enough
high school fast pitch over the years with her, Like
you see that all the time, and it's intentional, like

(56:37):
I'm just I'm gonna reach out, use the momentum of
the speed of the ball, and I'm just gonna flip
one out there to the outfield, and I'm gonna take
my single and move along. That's I gotta give him credit, man,
I thought that was a hell of a play. I
don't like the little fella. Nobody does in Seattle, nobody
does outside of Houston. But you gotta give the guy credit.
That was a hell of a play by him.

Speaker 5 (56:58):
Contacting.

Speaker 11 (56:59):
You know, not to dismiss the softball comp but you know,
that's very much what also they does did there was
I'm just trying to keep the at that alive. It
wasn't necessarily I'm trying to hit the ball on the
right field. It's I'm swinging at a breaking ball that's
nowhere near the plate, and I just got to try
to stay alive. And you know, sometimes that ball gets
top to the pitcher, top to the first base, and

(57:20):
top to the second basis. Sometimes the pop up that's
easily handled, and he just happened to catch it in
the right way that that drove home the tying run.
So again, credit for getting the bat on the ball
on a pitch that was nowhere near the plate by
a guy who's four foot step. You know what, I
don't get to make hype jokes about people, but you know,
also is a small guy. But I just I'm still stunned,
Like I just don't know what if you're Andres Munno is,

(57:41):
what more can you do in that situation? You absolutely
buried a breaking ball in the opposite batter's box, you know,
a foot off the ground, and you gave up game
time singles. So, like I said, I still I don't
think any of these teams are good enough. I'm talking
about the White Sox, I'm talking about the Astros, I'm
talking about the Brewers, Astons done. I don't think any
of them are so good that they can't fload these

(58:02):
division leads. So don't see how it plays out. But
that two games swing, that swing is a two game
swing at the end of the year that decides the division.
That is a hell of a way to go.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
I love Muno's in you know, I use a little
comparison sometimes, and I don't know if this is my
friend baseball guy Joe's gonna get mad at me for this,
but I think the baseball closer the football cornerback, not
the quarter the football cornerback, Devin Witherspoon, those guys, the

(58:34):
hockey goalie. You've got to have the shortest damn memory
in the planet in the world in your job. And
it's easier said than done right to have the confidence
to go back out and do that same job after
something bad happens and something negative happens. And that's frankly
Munno's on Sunday, and it's one thing like you can

(58:56):
get by with the two flip hits into the into
the right field and left field.

Speaker 4 (59:02):
That proved to be the downfall.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
But then Walker hits that ball, you know, all the
way to San Antonio, and you got to come back
out two days later and you got to do it
all over again and given on and hores.

Speaker 4 (59:14):
Munas has had a very up and down year.

Speaker 2 (59:16):
I thought that was just a massive moment for him
on Sunday to kind of finish things off.

Speaker 6 (59:21):
To bounce back.

Speaker 11 (59:21):
Then I was watching that when I was screaming at
the television before I realized I actually looked it up
in game. I didn't realize the extent to which Muno's
was a one inning only pitcher this year because I
wanted them in there in the eighth, and they got
out of it with the first spire, and then to
get who they were, they brought it serrend thing to
Mingas to get out of the eighth, and I'm screaming,

(59:43):
like why is And then I look at Apparently Munyos
has not been used outside of the three out role
this year, and I don't like that. I don't want
to turn this into another Dan Wilson thing. Honestly, Dani
Wilson's not the only guy who does this, but when
you have one guy who's that much better than the
rest of your bulb, especially in the absence of Matt Brash.
I think you've got to show more flexibility. And they

(01:00:04):
very nearly lost that game for want of using outside
of that three out role. So you know that that
spot two outs, two on in the in the eighth
was higher leverage than basis loaded ushas with nobody out
and nobody on in the ninth, and they got they
got away with it. But I think restricting Munio's to
this role is the kind of thing that's probably gonna
end up biting them eventually.

Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
Well, I mean it's and the role isn't just one
out or one inning, it's also in the innings, like
it's that was I mean, we go back, it was,
it was that was the problem last year. Instead of
using him earlier in Toronto, they didn't. And that's what
that's what That's why people to this day are sideways
with Dan Wilson. I give old Sir Anthony Lancelot there,
give him a little bit of credit. His Mariner debut

(01:00:46):
was nothing short of horrific, uh, And that was a
massively high leverage situation.

Speaker 4 (01:00:50):
He came in and got it done.

Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
But Yeah, let's go back though, because whether it's in Toronto,
but even in this thing, like you said, Dan Wilson
isn't the only manager of the marriage, not the only
team that does that with their clobe. But aren't those
the types of decisions sometimes that are made outside of
the managerials manager's office.

Speaker 11 (01:01:07):
Yes, and having no insight into how the Mariners have
divided up this role, it is possible that this is
not just Dan Wilson doing it. There may be input
in terms of how we're going to keep munas healthy
over the course of a year. My feeling is I
don't mind that as a six month strategy, but I
think you've got to have the flexibility to get away
from it on the road in a must win game

(01:01:28):
in August. Man, if you want to say, hey, look
we want to not overwork one of our best relievers
for four months, that's fine, but it's so that you
can put on some extra work on it in August, September,
and October. So I can agree with the larger picture
and you know who's making a decision. But I also
think you've got to have a little more flexibility. And
we talked about this with lineups too. There's an idea

(01:01:50):
that you know, front officers write a lot of lineups.

Speaker 5 (01:01:52):
But.

Speaker 11 (01:01:54):
Unless you're actually going to show me the diagram, unless
you're going to show me the workflow chart. To me,
the managers, the guy who goes to the mounder, doesn't.
The manager is the guy who fills out the lineup
card physically, it's on him to make those decisions. And
I get that front offices has a lot of influence now,
but I'm always going to blame the guy in the
dugout or credits the guy in the dugout, because I

(01:02:17):
just otherwise what are we doing. It's like, you know,
front offices now have nine guys and them who have
various titles. I've just taken the calling the one guy
the GM if that's not his title or not, because
somebody has to in the end of the day, bear responsibility.

Speaker 5 (01:02:29):
For the decision.

Speaker 11 (01:02:30):
It can't just be the decision you don't like, Well
that's because the front office made it wrong. Well no, look,
he's the guy that it's gotten complicated as an analyst,
don't get me wrong, but I just I firmly believe
that we've got to be able to say this guy
made the call this guy made the trade and not
just Gilmer. So what I'm looking for spread out blame

(01:02:51):
when we don't actually know who's specifically responsible for a decision.

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
Well, I think you go back to you know, I mean,
we don't see a lot of g necessarily fired in season.
We sure as hell see a lot of managers fired
in season, right. I mean, if nothing else, you're gonna
be the one taking the taking the final bullet a
lot of times. And I think you know, we've seen
it in successful places like Philly and certainly with Boston
Joshian joining us Joshian dot com. I we hear in

(01:03:18):
a line here all the time, and and I'm kind
of and I'm guilty of it.

Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
We're all guilty of it. Seattle.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
It's like, well, maybe that's what fill in the blank turns,
you know, filling the blank player around. You know, we've
heard it from about cal all year. He hits the
home run the other night. The reality is he's still
two for twenty on this road trip. He's four for
his last fifty or forty seven. But if you include,
if you include plate appearancies, he's four for his last
fifty plus at bats. Yes, he hit a big home run,

(01:03:46):
But the bottom line is he's still just not producing.
He's on pace to have a record year in a
bad way for batting average for a modern day player
with who qualifies. Can one swing turnaround cal rally or
should we just accept that he's gonna get you a
couple of home runs here or there and that's it,
and we just got to hope everybody else picks it up.

Speaker 11 (01:04:05):
We were waiting for how long term to regress even
to a version of the player he was in a
three h fourth and twenty four twenty five, and it's
it's really a mystery to me. I'm Sam Miller, the
Prospectives ESPN. He's got his own thing pebble hunting now,
great writer, and he was post pointing out the other
day that, like, we're hoping he gets back to like

(01:04:25):
his level in May when he had like a six
fifty ops, Like it's getting worse. I remember talking to
you when he went on the il and thinking all
he needs is rest. He had a long season last year,
and he's actually hit worse since coming back to me
did before he went on the aisle. It is one
of the most mysterious things I've seen and you kind
of look at the swings and he's just not When
he was at his best last year, it was almost

(01:04:47):
a little like a Bonds thing where he wasn't going
to get many pitches to hit, but when he got them,
he was locked in on them. And there's been a
little bit there's been a degradation in the pitch selection
is obviously the the degradation and the quality of contact
and that stuff starts to see it on each other.
I you know me, I'm not a soft factors guy.
I don't like an analyzing players through the magic box

(01:05:08):
in my living room. I would be shocked at this
point if there wasn't something mental going on. And I
don't mean that negatively, but I don't know if you
can hit a buck fifty for a season and not
have that get into your head somehow.

Speaker 5 (01:05:23):
You know.

Speaker 11 (01:05:23):
I've had years where, you know, I go a week
and I write crap and it really starts to get
at me. Cal Rally has been, you know, a pretty
bad baseball player for four months. And the thing is,
I'm not ready. I don't think I'm already in Waller's career.
I'm not even writing him off for September if you
tell me he goes out and as a nine hundred
ops in September, I can fully believe that. But I
would have to think that playing like this for four

(01:05:44):
months weighs on you. And I would say the same
about Kyle Tucker, and I'd probably say the same about
Ladimir Gerrich Junior. Three unbelievable collapses this year.

Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
Yeah, so he's up the only one.

Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
I think that's the point to remember, Like, maybe you
can point that out for matter fans a little bit.
There's three guys that are just inexplicably not good this season,
and you just said historically for cal is it historic
for all three of those guys to have that kind
of step back.

Speaker 11 (01:06:07):
There's like no precedent from going without an injury, for
going to the second best player in the league to
be the second most player in the league. What cal
Rally has done is historic. But even then, Kyle Tucker
was he signed for four years, two hundred and forty million.
He was at every candidate. He did play poorly at
the end of last year.

Speaker 5 (01:06:24):
He had some.

Speaker 11 (01:06:24):
Handed issues and maybe we're going to learn that this
has all been injury related. And you know, he walks
enough that the numbers aren't quite as bad. He's basically
been about a half win better than replacement. He's generally
a good defensive outfield or had a terrible couple days.
He dropped the ball, just flat out dropped the ball
last night at course, And because the Dodgers are still
in first place, I don't think he's getting the grief

(01:06:45):
necessarily that Rally's gotten. Ladi Vigria Junior. You know, he's
always had issues hitting balls on the ground, and that
was the crazy thing about that running had in the
playoff last I guess I don't need to tell you guys.
He was just putting everything in the air. He was
sitting the ball hard enough, which is something that he's
struggled to do over and this year has gone back
to just being a fifty percent ground ball guy. Seven
home runs. He's on the il at the moment, be

(01:07:06):
a tocushion il. I don't know if it's coming back
this week, but even before that, just this remarkable, just
this ground ball machine. He just wasn't driving in runs,
and he's got a slugging that's like Chandler Simpson slugging.
It's just it's really a remarkable year. So yeah, you know,
talk about the baseball not being as well, but you know,
guys are having good years. There are guys out there

(01:07:27):
hitting for power, hitting for average, and it's just at
the same time you've got three of these remarkable I
don't have a better word for them than collapses. And
I know how that sounds judgmental, and I'm not really
trying to be that guy. But how do you explain
three guys who were projected to be what fifteen war
between them basically being replaced with level well, and.

Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
I think that's you know, the mental part is the
only thing that does make sense. I know with Cali,
even things like you know, bat speed and things like
that are are the same. Like it's not like you go, wow,
his bat speed's diminished remarkably and things like that. It's
that's it's And there's no more cerebral game other than
golf than baseball, right, Like, how do you feel about
your swing?

Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
Well, not good today?

Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Well, you know what, you're probably not gonna have good
results in either sport, and that I think I think
you're think I think what you said is right on.

Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
Joe she enjoys Joshan newsletter.

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
The best thing about going to Joshian dot com is
if you want to learn about teams like I did
with because I don't watch a lot of National League,
I'm not Joe. I want like, how in the hell
of the Milwaukee Brewers sitting with the best record in
Major League Baseball? I read Joe's third third preview and
I find out that, well, they didn't take a run
at Trek Scooble, they don't get any offense at a
third base or designated hit or two places you should

(01:08:33):
So I'll ask you this, how the hell do the
Milwaukee Brewers are the best record in baseball?

Speaker 11 (01:08:39):
I mean, the pitching has been excellent, obviously, Jacob Zarowski
has taken a huge step forward this year. They traded
for Kyle Harrison. That's worked out very well for them.
The bullpen's been strong. You know, at one point we
were talking about Aaron Ashby as being a guy who
could possibly win twenty games. He had this ridiculous run
of relief wins. I want to say, he's thirteen now,
so he's probably not going.

Speaker 5 (01:08:57):
To get there.

Speaker 11 (01:08:57):
But it's really been the rug prevention. You know, we
talked the people get excited about their offense, they get
on base they hit singles, they're really good in the clutch.
They've lost some of that this year. The offense is
eleventh overall, and really for about two months now, they
haven't had that successful runers in scoring positions. But their
run prevention is the best in baseball. That's what's kept
them kept them going. You know, Christian Yelich hasn't hit,
Wilson Conan, William Canterreras hasn't hit. They have real problems

(01:09:21):
scoring runs. And if you remember last year that that's
what knocked them out in the postseason. They got good
pitching against the Dodgers and just could not score. And
you look ahead to them in this October and they're
kind of setting up for that same thing where they
run prevention is going to be very good, but they
might lose in a series where they score, you know,
five runs in four games. Again, so I think you're

(01:09:41):
going to get some low scoring games this week. Do
you catch me, Asarowski?

Speaker 5 (01:09:44):
I haven't look at the no.

Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
It's it's Harrison may and Gasser.

Speaker 11 (01:09:49):
Dustin made they trade. If that was the big trade
deadline acquisition, Dustin Mayor's pitch twelve for the Cardinals this year,
they made some tweaks. They really they like doing it.
They like trading for guys who they can change, who
they can say you. They're very hands on with their pitchers.
Throw this more, change this grip, and then they've had
some success. Harrison was a big success for them. You know,
they traded for Robert Gas the gash was they traded

(01:10:11):
for Shane Grohan. In that same deal, they picked up
Brandon spode Pro from the Mets, who hasn't really worked out.
So you know, it's they're going to keep the runs
off the board. They're a very strong defensive team, but
they're just struggling the scry. Like if you told me
that there were seventeen runs total in these three games,
I might take the under. They're just they're a defense
pitching and try to sequence well they they Whereas the

(01:10:33):
Mariners are trying to hit three home runs and hope
that some runners are on base, the Brewers are trying
to get a bunch of runners on base and bring
them home by with Underson scoring position, but hit runers
in scoring positions, two very different models of offense.

Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
If Seattle were to get one tonight with Harrison on
the mount against Miller, that'd be a big bonus for
the Mariners to start this series, wouldn't it?

Speaker 11 (01:10:54):
It is because that's the best starter you're going to
face the series. Nothing agains Dustin may Or, who's saying,
Robert Gasser.

Speaker 5 (01:10:58):
In the third spot?

Speaker 11 (01:10:59):
Yeah, yeah, this is this is the hard one. Tonight
you steal this. You're looking at a pretty good chance
to take two out of three and maybe even get
a sweep. And say ducking means, look, this is they're
spacing out his starts a lot. They're being very careful
with him. He's only thrown twenty eight since July first,
twenty eight innings, which is like eighty fourth in Major

(01:11:19):
League Baseball. So you're catching a break dot facing him,
and you'd rather see him up close, obviously, But I
think it's a break when you get Gasser in May
instead of having it if Zerowski. So, No, they bounce
back to win the last two in Houston. I'm just
I can't write any of these teams off this point. No,
none of the leaders are good enough. I think if
you tell me on September fifteenth, the Mariners are back

(01:11:40):
in first place, I would absolutely believe that because and
I'm going to keep coming back to this. The starting
pitching is just ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
I'll wrap it up with this joke because I think
at Joshian joining Joshian dot comratch by Northwest Handling Systems.
I'm looking through here and it's I'm with you, and
I've been saying this for a while. It would not
surprise me if they're in the playoffs. I don't think
they're we're close to being done. And yet it's odd
because there's fewer teams between them and last place in
the American League and them in the third wildcard spot

(01:12:08):
in the American League. But they're all separated by only
what is it there's six teams with sixty one wins,
five teams with sixty one wins, and then as a
team with sixty in Cleveland and then Seattle with fifty nine.

Speaker 4 (01:12:18):
I mean a lot can happen over the next couple
of months. And you mentioned it. Everyone's got blemishes on
their resume right right.

Speaker 11 (01:12:24):
And we're just waiting for some team to be done.
Out of ten, all these teams is going four and
six and five and five. In the last time, she's
waiting for one team to go out with nine out
of ten and take control.

Speaker 5 (01:12:33):
This thing.

Speaker 11 (01:12:33):
And again, if we're just talking about raw talent, if
we're just talking about even underlying performance, the Mariners are
still the best team in that mix. The Tigers are
right there with them. But to me, the Mariners and
the Tigers are separate from the Jays and Oriels and
Twins and all the rest of that group. So if
there's a team that can finish the year twenty four
and fourteen or whatever, it has to be, I think

(01:12:54):
it's the Mariners.

Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
See Joe is glass half full guy.

Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
That's I don't know where Anders is. He needs a
little more positive h Tell folks about the news letter.
It's fantastic, especially this time of the year. Down the
stretching into the playoffs.

Speaker 11 (01:13:08):
Yeah, Joe Shian dot com. You know all the information.
There's free stuff up there. The last third third the
six teams. I cover every single team coming out of
the break, coming out of the trade deadline that's up there.
Cover the Brewers in that last one covered the marriage.
You can check that out at Joshian dot com. Excerpts
from every piece I wrote about the White Sox. I
wrote about Tommy john Tommy Johns got up there, I wrote,

(01:13:29):
I'm writing about the petekro Armstrong for tomorrow after that
Monster game he had last night, if they want to
write about him for a while. So I'm excited about that.
Excerpts with out of the up up at the site
tomorrow as well, so please check it out, as the
notes that there'll be a ton of content coming through
over the next couple of weeks. September October a great
time to get the news letter. You'll get your money's
worth even by the end of the World Series, and
then we will talk about what it might happen after

(01:13:51):
the World Series. I, by the way, the whole thing
with Joe with Tommy John, I got to check that
out because I might I mentioned my kids.

Speaker 4 (01:13:58):
My son says I even wrote, realized Tommy John was
a real person. Oh yeah, he is.

Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
He's like and I think a lot of younger a
lot of the younger generation don't realize that it's like
Tommy John's.

Speaker 11 (01:14:08):
Absolutely, they were absolutely baseball fans who learned on Sunday
that he'd actually been a player.

Speaker 2 (01:14:14):
Yeah, and a good one and then also a groundbreaking
one as well, with the help of his doctor Solf.

Speaker 4 (01:14:19):
Joe great stuff. Will talk to you next week. My
friend Thank.

Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
You Joe Shean, Monus Andrews today right here, some good stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:14:28):
Appreciate him.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
What is a former teammate Alabama think of Terran Arnold
and his character and who and what he is. We'll
hear from Jalen Millroe talking about what could be the
newest Seahawk and Terry Arnold will do that next.

Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
Now back to Ian Ferness at the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center and our special coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought
to you by the Boeing Classic BUN Sports Radio three
kJ R.

Speaker 4 (01:14:56):
Death Al.

Speaker 6 (01:14:59):
Tyler.

Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Back here, Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Seahawks practice training camp continues.
No fans, just media, So we're really not allowed to
say anything going on out there, including who's on the
field who's not until after, so we'll just kind of
keep it at that. But they're out there doing their
thing right now here at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center.

Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
Earlier today in the noon.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
Now, a couple of hours ago, we had Jalon Milroll
stop by, a Seahawk quarterback from Alabama, second year player,
a third round pick last year. He was teammates with
Terry and Arnold. At Alabama, and when I was just
talking a great bill about this off the air minute ago,
we walked by turning Arnold think is a very strange thing.
He hasn't officially signed here yet. He is expected to

(01:15:39):
sign here, and the sereniors are talking about him fairly openly,
whether it be in Hard Knocks or even Mike McDonald's
addressed it a couple of different times in media sessions
affect the last two Mondays he has extensively, which normally
when they have a guy that's not like they won't
even it's like, well, we're not going to talk about it.
They have it's like foregone conclusion he's going to be here.

Speaker 7 (01:15:59):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
The problem is with Terry Arnold. He's facing eight felony charges.
There are those out there that believe that that he'll
be exonerated and and that that's not going to take
place like he's going to be okay. There's others out
there that say he's already guilty. That you know, that's

(01:16:19):
that's the way we live in this country. Somewhere in
between lies what's going to happen. Maybe he'll be able
to play. Ian Rappaport said reported today on the NFL network.
He'll be placed on the Commissioner's exemplists once he does
sign that makes him ineligible, and then they'll figure it
out from there. All that aside, Jalen Milroe knows him
very well. In fact, in the Hard Knocks episode, he

(01:16:41):
was you hear John Schneider and Mike McDonald talk about Hey,
you know he talked to Jalen about him.

Speaker 4 (01:16:45):
He speaks highly of him.

Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
Well, I had Jalen Miller on the show today and
I asked him about Terry and Arnold.

Speaker 8 (01:16:51):
Well, this is my best friend that I consider my brother.
This is someone that it means a lot to me
because we started the journey together. We're both in a
sanm raccoon last Alabama, So we started the journey being
in backups, grinding our tail off, grinding together, competing each
and every day, being around his room was like two

(01:17:11):
rooms away from mine at the dorms. To someone I
spent a lot of time with, and during this whole
time frame we got each other better. And to see
now that we're both in the NFL, seeing you know
where his direction his life is going. He's very, very,
very talented. Of course we all know that, but he's
very smart and intelligent. He's gonna bring a lot of
juice to our defense. He's gonna work hard, of course,

(01:17:33):
but also understanding that he's he's there. He's here, the
better the team. You're not gonna detrimental team. He's here,
the better the team, and only bring Jordan to our defense.

Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
So there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
That's Jalen Milroe, who has you know, great, great affinity
towards Uh his former teammate, former you know, dorm room merrit,
I guess, dorm neighbor and so forth. But I know
the Seahawks value Jalen mill Rose opinion. Jalen's background, where
he's from, and who he is character wise is someone

(01:18:07):
that they trust mightily, and so is you know that.
I think The Hard Knocks gonna be interesting in that
because it's gonna be a topic. It's going to be
a topic, and there's gonna be stuff in that episode
that hasn't been reported by RAP or anybody else, Cheft
or anybody else. I'm assuming because it's it has certainly
progressed since the last episode because they've figured out some

(01:18:27):
sort of agreement. Again, it's weird he has it signed,
but he's he's gonna be here at some point, we assume.

Speaker 4 (01:18:33):
Now, will he ever be able to play in Seattle
this year? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Maybe, And I'll still go back and say I'll stay
consistent on this. I think it's a very good football
move because in a sense, it costs you nothing by
money wise, and if he does play, nice little bonus
you get a first round pick that can play a
very important position for next to nothing. So we'll see,

(01:19:01):
all right, when we come back, our buddy John Lund
is going to join us from k NBR in the
Bay Area. God he's also still doing Westwood One. I
was on his Westwood one show on Saturday night. I
thin guy works too much. He's kind I always kind
of thought him as a lazy ass, but he actually
is working quite a bit.

Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
Lund's gonna join us.

Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
We'll talk about the forty nine ers have another new
injury like Evans is now hurt. Left practice today quad injury.
Ice wrapped on his quad. He was seen, so we'll
find out what's going on with them. We'll talk much
more about what's taking place in the NFC West after
this first weekend of preseason games. Ty Stimps will look
good for the Rams also gonna talk a little bit

(01:19:39):
about ESPN. The founder of the co founder of ESPN
passed away earlier today, ninety three years old, Bill Rasmusen
from Parkinson's disease, and those two old guys are going
to reminisce a little bit about what ESPN used to
be and still to this day, how important it is
to the sports media landscape. All that's coming up next
nine three point three KTERFM no from.

Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
The Star Rentals Sports to us Jordan ninety three point
three JJRFM Sports Headlines.

Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrewed Corpslight Choose Chill.
New report about quarterback Terry Arnold. We talked about that
a moment ago. The Seahawks are still planning to sign him.
May take a while, all kinds of stuff to work through.
According to Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network, he'll be
placed on the NFL Commissioner's Exempt List when he does sign,
meaning he'll be ineligible to play or practice while the
league looks into his case. Good news for Seahawks rooky

(01:20:26):
running back to Darian Price. He returned to the field
at training camp yesterday as a full participant after missing
the last five practices with a sore upper leg, slid
it right in with the first team offense taking handoffs
from Sam Darnold doing the same thing today. Some other
Seahawk updates and Tory Horton did not practice Monday. Mike
McDonald said he's quote working through some things. He's channeling
his inner Peak Carroll with that line, by the way,

(01:20:48):
working through some things. Uh known update on Nick even
worry status and outside linebacker Derek call him.

Speaker 4 (01:20:54):
This practice yesterday as well manners. Let's get to them.
They had to.

Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
Milwaukee started a three game series against the nl Central Brewers.
Bryce Miller starts for the MS. Kyle Harrison will be
the best pictures of the Mariner see in this series.
He'll get the start for the Brewers. Seattle four games
off of Houston the AL West. They are two games
out of the wild card race.

Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
Welcome Dan's weekly visit with John Lund Unleashed. He's a
Bay Area media icon who's known Ian for over twenty
five years. But don't let their age change your opinion
of them. John takes you through the Bay Area and
the NFC West and dupes it out with the in
over the Niners and the Hawks. So let's unleash it
now with John Lund. Here's Ian.

Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
I'd also say, and I never thought I'd utter these words.
Maybe the hardest working man in sports radio like like
honestly true.

Speaker 5 (01:21:49):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
Well in terms of hours, like in terms of hours
you are.

Speaker 5 (01:21:55):
I be more hours than most people on a given week.
I do seven days a week.

Speaker 6 (01:22:02):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
I get a text from London Saturday night and he says, hey, oh,
I got to read the text.

Speaker 4 (01:22:09):
Hang on a second, because.

Speaker 5 (01:22:10):
This is you were awesome by the way you were
sober for the first time. It was amazing. Got amazing
when you're sober.

Speaker 2 (01:22:17):
Really, some people think the opposite. I get a text.
I get a text at five forty six pm Pacific
daylight time on Saturday night. Wanna want to talk to
Seahawks in the show at eight forty pm tonight or
will you be hammered?

Speaker 4 (01:22:34):
No worries if you can't. I take great events.

Speaker 5 (01:22:38):
I think I've had you on that I think I've
had you on that show like three times. It's a look.
It's just I don't blame you and you don't have
a drinking problem. It's just it's it.

Speaker 12 (01:22:46):
It goes from I see if I can do the math,
it goes from eight to midnight Pacific. And so it's
a Saturday night, I wouldn't you know, you might be
out with your wife drinking wine, drinking beer.

Speaker 5 (01:22:57):
You know, I get it. It's it's kind of prime
time to have a good time. You know.

Speaker 12 (01:23:00):
It's not like I'm calling you nine thirty on a
Saturday morning and you're in the bag.

Speaker 5 (01:23:04):
That would be different.

Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
That would be you know what if that happened, that
would be a problem. I'd hope you say something to
me about it.

Speaker 12 (01:23:09):
But no, that at the airport airport rules and golf
don't apply.

Speaker 5 (01:23:13):
But anything else day.

Speaker 2 (01:23:14):
Never al Yeah, there's yeah, it's six am the airport.
Every airport air opens at six am.

Speaker 4 (01:23:18):
You just gotta go. Yeah, and golf is golf the
same thing.

Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
The but but the other two times, the last couple
of times I was on This also says that I
must not have made a good impression because it's been
in like six months, uh since I was on your
National show.

Speaker 5 (01:23:31):
Last time talk about Well, I couldn't talk hockey with you.
I guess we're gonna talk mariners.

Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
Yeah, no, thank god. No, it was.

Speaker 2 (01:23:39):
It was after the NFC Championship game and after the
Super Bowl or the other two times. And yeah, I
was over my my next door neighbor, Big sexyes house,
and we were we were getting after it a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:23:49):
So, uh that was like stuff. That was good.

Speaker 4 (01:23:53):
Well we did.

Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
I did the show Saturday night after the Seahawks preseason game.
When I was fighting my way through Seattle traffic. It
was a ton of fune. I mean, the guy's doing
a showback on CANBR. Now you're doing a national show. Guy,
take some time, dude, take some time for yourself.

Speaker 4 (01:24:08):
John.

Speaker 12 (01:24:09):
I literally just got off because what you guys probably
do this too, unless you don't like each other, which
is possible. But like you know how the program directors
like to do cross talks.

Speaker 5 (01:24:18):
So I'm looking at the I'm looking at it. It's
like I'm supposed to go ten am to two pm Monday.

Speaker 12 (01:24:22):
Through Friday, and it's like two oh two or something,
and I can see, you know, I can see kJ
R calling, and you know, I'm.

Speaker 5 (01:24:29):
Just like, dude, I just did a just like you.
I just did a.

Speaker 12 (01:24:31):
Solo show man, and it's like I've been yapping for
four hours like let me off the show, and.

Speaker 5 (01:24:36):
Then that, you know, and then like you said, I
do Saturdays and Sundays, and it's like, but I got bills, man,
I got steal divorces, I got x yves, I got
more kids in the house. That was a brilliant idea. Hey,
let's that some more to the you know, it's smart.
He hell was wrong with me? Two more news.

Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
The news today I see out of the Bay Area
is the substation has has struck again. Mike Evans leaving
practice as a quad injury.

Speaker 4 (01:25:01):
What the hell?

Speaker 12 (01:25:03):
Yeah, well, the substation strikes again, as you said. But
the reality of it is is when you sign I
don't know, I'm crazy. When you sign thirty plus year
old players who have gotten injured their entire.

Speaker 5 (01:25:17):
Career, you know what they're gonna do.

Speaker 12 (01:25:19):
They're gonna keep getting injured like their whole like their
whole offense.

Speaker 5 (01:25:24):
It's like George Kittle's thirty two up an Achilles. Mike
Evans is always hurt, Nebo Samuel is always hurt, Christian
Kirk has always hurt. Uh, you know, Trent Williams is
eighty five, Like, like, what's gonna happen? They're gonna get hurt.
I mean, and everyone around here.

Speaker 12 (01:25:38):
Act the prized like it's got to be the substation
or they're practicing too hard or you know, or what. Oh,
it's it's got to be the training staff.

Speaker 5 (01:25:45):
It's like, no, you're signing thirty plus year old guys
who always get hurt, that'll get hurt.

Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
Shot.

Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
We're all shocked by We're all shocked by this issue,
aren't we.

Speaker 12 (01:25:57):
Dude bad they're down in uh, they're in LA and
they're doing.

Speaker 5 (01:26:02):
The joint practices with the Chargers.

Speaker 12 (01:26:04):
We had a couple of people on from down there,
and then right when Mike Evans, you know, limped off
the field.

Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
With ice and his groin or whatever he was doing.

Speaker 12 (01:26:10):
It's just like they have twenty guys out of practice.

Speaker 5 (01:26:14):
Twenty. I mean, it's just unreal. It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Okay, in all seriousness, is there concern because we've been
talking about this kind of joking about it for a while,
but is there any concern about all these guys getting hurt?

Speaker 5 (01:26:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (01:26:28):
I mean, I just and they've done everything. I mean,
they've changed their staff. They you know, you know how
training camp is. You're out there, you know better than
I do. I mean, it's you know, the Niners used
to be in Rockland, California.

Speaker 5 (01:26:39):
It was one hundred and five.

Speaker 12 (01:26:40):
And you know, we just had you won't like him
because he's husky. I just had Dennis Brown on and
I was saying, are they working out too hard? And
I thought he was going to rip my head off.
You know, I was like, dude, we were in Rockland.

Speaker 5 (01:26:49):
We were doing pads every day, we were doing two
a days. You know, some of it is, you know,
there's a lot of different theories. You know, do they
build up enough callous.

Speaker 12 (01:26:57):
Or whatever the case may be. But you know, you
see one or two you you know this, everybody knows this.
You see one or two injuries across the league and
it scares the hell out of everybody. I mean, you know,
the Cardinals have got to be the dumbest team in
the universe. Fourteen touches in the first half, eleven carries
and three catches for Jeremiah Love.

Speaker 5 (01:27:14):
What are you doing? Like there's a happy medium there,
but but I mean, you can, you can help keep
your players healthy. But you know, trading camps aren't what
they used to be or anything like that. But some
of it comes down to bad luck.

Speaker 12 (01:27:26):
But like I said, I chalk it up to thirty
plus year old guys who get hurt a lot. I mean,
Mike Evans is going to get hurt. Debo's gonna get hurt,
Christen Kirk's gonna hurt. Kittle's gonna get hurt. CMC is
gonna get hurt. I mean Kyle Shanahan has never learned
that CMC as he get especially as he gets older,
he's you got to get a backup running back, and
the Niners have nothing. This is the most barre in

(01:27:47):
their backfield has been since McCaffrey became a forty nine er.
At least like last year they had Brian Robinson, who
you know, he's had some decent years in this league.
They don't have anybody. So if CMC, if this is tightness.

Speaker 5 (01:27:56):
Some people are.

Speaker 12 (01:27:57):
Saying maybe it's a contract thing, but he's probably I
know this is crazy to say, but he might be
even more important than Brock Purdy.

Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
Jeez well, I mean he is when he's healthy, he's
a difference maker. I mean the quarterback's really good. Yeah,
I means, I mean he's a he's a two thousand
plus yard twenty five hundred yard combined guy in the league.
I mean, did you guys, nineteen thirteen of the Titans
beat the Niners. I'll tell you this, Yeah, because I did.
I told you on our Saturday show. Outside of the
fact that I think Mike McDonald would not have been

(01:28:25):
happy with his offensive line depth, like the backups, I thought,
I thought, there's not much to learn from that game
against the Cowboys, to be honest with you, just there
just wasn't I know, people were some people critical of
Jalen Milroe. I kind of look at it like Milroe
as he was behind a bunch of slappies on the
offensive line. I'm not sure what he was supposed to do,
but not much to glean. A couple of guys stepped

(01:28:48):
up that were backup, backup linebackers, and that was it.
Did the Niners learn anything out of that game against
the Titans? Besides that Deshaun Stribbling is okay against bad players.

Speaker 5 (01:28:59):
Yeah, that's the biggest thing. This kid at Ole Miss
and you know he's college football.

Speaker 12 (01:29:04):
I mean yeah, I mean that's right, you know, I mean,
he's whatever.

Speaker 5 (01:29:09):
I'm not counting that part, but you know, he played.
This is what's crazy.

Speaker 12 (01:29:13):
And again You're right, it's everything everyone has to realize.

Speaker 5 (01:29:17):
Preseason, preseason, preseason. We've seen it a million times.

Speaker 12 (01:29:20):
I use this example of this guy. His name was
Marcus Rush. Like five or six years ago with the Niners.
He led the preseason in sacks and then and he
had like six or seven.

Speaker 5 (01:29:29):
I mean it was ridiculous. I think like seven preseason sacks.

Speaker 12 (01:29:31):
He wore forty four and everyone was going bananas that
they had found some guy.

Speaker 5 (01:29:35):
The Niners cut him. Everybody freaked out.

Speaker 12 (01:29:37):
He was out of the league like a year later,
picked up by like five different teams. He couldn't play,
so you know, it's it's with the grain. But Stribbling
only played twenty two snaps. He got seven balls for
sixty three yards and went up to get one, made
a nice sideline catch.

Speaker 5 (01:29:50):
You know, he runs a four to three five as
you know, because he went to Wazoo. I mean, the guy.
I think the guy can play, but he didn't.

Speaker 12 (01:29:56):
Have to, like I said, yeah, I mean, but that's
the problem. One of the forty nine ers is if
you said, okay, they're three wide receivers plus Kittle, are
you know Christian Kirk and Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel.

Speaker 5 (01:30:08):
That's pretty good. But what's gonna happen is those guys
are all gonna get hurt. And so a guy like Stribbling,
who you think, okay, well he can be a depth piece.
He's gonna have to start, you know.

Speaker 12 (01:30:16):
And like you said, okay, that's great that you did
that against although I guess Tennessee did to have their
starters on the starters in but they stink. But he
may have to step up early, just like a lot
of these young guys on this team, and not only him,
but then this is a really young defense.

Speaker 4 (01:30:30):
And so what is it?

Speaker 12 (01:30:31):
Is it Niner Seahawks early in the season, right, I
mean they're gonna get the see They're gonna get the
Niners early.

Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Well, I would say that the Deshaun Stribbling, I mean,
he's gonna have to play because you get the rotting
carcass of what was once known as as Deebo Samuel.
It's not like he's going to be anything this year.
But by the way, your guy you just mentioned, I
had to look I had to look it up. In Seattle,
there was a guy here. He was oregon'st all time
leader in sacks, Nick Reid was his name. He finished
in eight and he came to He's like, our he's

(01:30:59):
gonna like our poster child here.

Speaker 4 (01:31:01):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
Nick Reed is like I think he was either a
seventh round pick or undrafted. Here comes in and we're like,
Nick Reid is gonna be the dude. Man, He is
gonna be the man. And he had that same preseason like, oh,
look out for Nick Reid and yeah it's it's uh.
If you will look up Nick Reed on Pro Football Reference,
good luck, you won't see much there. There's those guys

(01:31:22):
over here, except for let's make fun of our friends
down the street. And by the way, strippling is good.
It doesn't always catch everything, which sometimes can be a
problematic for a wide receiver. Yeah, that's why. That's why
it was that we had no problem sending him to
Ole Miss because that was art decision there.

Speaker 4 (01:31:38):
Actually he went to where did you go?

Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
He went to like Oklahoma State first, I think he
went to Oklahoma State and then Ole Miss.

Speaker 4 (01:31:44):
Yeah. Uh, what I like is this.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
I love me this because as we joke about all that,
did you see Ty Simpson twenty one to twenty five,
one hundred ninety yards two touchdowns.

Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
Passer rating of one twenty five. I mean, Ty Simpson,
that was a sneaky good pick by the That was
a sneaky good pick by the Rams. Oh my god,
Ty Simps could stop it. Just stop it, Come on,
please stop it.

Speaker 5 (01:32:08):
He was playing against like Kansas City ups drivers. No
offense to UPS drivers.

Speaker 12 (01:32:12):
You have a great job, well paying, great benefits. I'm
not disparaging. It was just the first thing that came
to mind. But come on, man, I mean, look, if
Matthew Stafford retires and you've heard the.

Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
Same thing, and I think you and I have actually
talked about it.

Speaker 12 (01:32:24):
His wife Kelly came out and said, look, the girls
are getting old enough, and he gets four girls and
they wonder where daddy is and all that kind of stuff. Now, look,
it's probably tough to turn down fifty sixty million dollars
whatever you could do. I don't expect him to retire
after this.

Speaker 5 (01:32:36):
Year, but maybe the Rams know something we don't.

Speaker 12 (01:32:39):
If you want to slide Tysimpson in there and take
Matthew Stafford out, thank you, thank you, think you, thank you,
thank you. The rest of the NFC will be sending
you whatever kind of you know prizes that you want
because right now, Stafford he's I mean, he's ridiculous.

Speaker 5 (01:32:52):
The only team that figured out, as you well.

Speaker 12 (01:32:53):
Know, the only team that figured out Mike McDonald's here
was the Rams twice.

Speaker 5 (01:32:57):
It's actually of those games. There were great games, obviously,
but I mean he was the only one to figure
it out.

Speaker 12 (01:33:04):
If Stafford wants to leave after this year, that's great,
that'd be wonderful. You want to put an Entysonson's hands, great, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:33:10):
We're all we're all in.

Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
And by the way, McVeigh, Yeah, in a sense, McVeigh
figured it out. I'd also say that the quarterback is
I mean, he was a damn MVP and you covered
him Detroit. He's just different, like he's just I think
he's I mean, I hate the fact that he plays
for the Rams and because nobody.

Speaker 4 (01:33:27):
Likes the rounds and all that. He's one of the
most remarkable guys.

Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
When you watch him play, like just the ball, like
you think you're gonna get him, you're gonna sack him,
and the ball's out.

Speaker 4 (01:33:35):
The ball's always out.

Speaker 5 (01:33:37):
Quitch crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:33:38):
Yeah, I mean, that's just a that's a gift and
a skill that comes from all those years all right,
I want to get I want to touch it on
something different with you just for a second. The Bill
Rasmison died today. I mean, if you talked about this
on your show. Bill Rasmussen died today at the age
of ninety three. He was the co founder of an
ESPN seven pm September seventh, nineteen seventy nine ESPN. And

(01:34:00):
it was that that ESPN thirty forty years ago, far
different than today's ESPN as we all know. But and
and I think there's a there's a fun thing in
sports media now if you're not at ESPN, is to
mock ESPN, right Like, that's just kind of a it's
a it's a.

Speaker 4 (01:34:19):
Sport and amongst itself.

Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
And there's reasons for it, right Like, there's reasons, there's
reasons that we that we mock ESPN. But I was
just thinking back the original ESPN. Where would we be
in just sports media without Bill Rasmus, not just ESPN,
not just TV, but just us, right, just us?

Speaker 12 (01:34:37):
Right, Yeah, you do wonder if you know, if somebody
would have come up with this, they probably would have.

Speaker 5 (01:34:42):
But you're right, I mean for it to.

Speaker 12 (01:34:44):
Be done when it was done, and I worked with
them for a number of years. Yeah, right, you know
it's crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:34:50):
I mean, it's just it's Yeah, that's a great question
because it kind of just became a norm. I mean remember,
I mean people know.

Speaker 12 (01:34:56):
This, but I mean they you used to have just
a you had two things in this agees of both.

Speaker 5 (01:35:02):
But you know, the newspaper and you don't open it
up and you'd see box scores and then.

Speaker 12 (01:35:05):
You had to catch the news at least I did.
I remember, like at ten, I don't know, ten eighteen
or eleven, twenty two or whenever they would have it, well,
you know, whenever they would have the sports broadcast, you
would get you know, three or four minutes, and then
after nine to eleven it went down to about ninety seconds.
And that, I mean that was your sports. So you
could you got you got sports illustrated weekly, you got
a newspaper daily, and you got whatever the new local.

Speaker 5 (01:35:28):
Newscast had and that was your sports. That was it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:31):
And if you didn't and that the thing with with
the ESPN was it it's evolved.

Speaker 4 (01:35:37):
Kind I kind of almost.

Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
Equate it to MTV, right, like it's it's they've evolved.
It used to be MTV. You turn MTV on and
that's where you got your music. Like you would like
in college, you'd have it on in the background. You
didn't have the radio when you had MTV on. In
the music videos, yeah, if you did a good music video,
you'd all of a sudden sell album, CDs, cassettes, whatever,
it would be, right. It was all about that and promoting,

(01:35:58):
you know. And then and you know today MTV, I
don't even if they have music videos on anymore, right,
and it's evolved.

Speaker 5 (01:36:04):
It's gone. MTV is gone. They booted, you know. I
think that's a great way to that's a great comparison.
I mean, it'll always be around.

Speaker 12 (01:36:13):
I think what they did and I can't fall to
men because you know, we see the numbers, we see
the revenue everything.

Speaker 5 (01:36:18):
They went from.

Speaker 12 (01:36:19):
You know, we loved watching Sports Center all the time,
but it just kind of became too much.

Speaker 5 (01:36:23):
And now I kind of look at it as they
sold their soul to the devil.

Speaker 12 (01:36:26):
Like whatever whatever people think of it, I'm not saying
it's good, bad, or and different.

Speaker 5 (01:36:30):
It's just what they used to do. And I've actually
written about this a lot of stuff.

Speaker 12 (01:36:33):
What they used to do is when you work for them,
nobody was bigger than that brand.

Speaker 5 (01:36:37):
So ESPN was it. And and you know a lot
of companies are like this brand brand brand. They would
I would go to these meetings.

Speaker 12 (01:36:43):
I know this is crazy, but they actually put me
in charge of a station. I was miserable and terrible
at it, but still they did. And it was you'd
go to these meetings and it'd just be.

Speaker 5 (01:36:51):
Like brand, brand brand brand ESPN. No one's bigger than
the ESPN.

Speaker 12 (01:36:54):
And so you know, like you're Dan Patrick's and Keith
Oberman's and Rich Eisen's and all these guys split off
because was like, well.

Speaker 5 (01:37:00):
I want to, you know, I want to I want
to bring a brand myself.

Speaker 12 (01:37:03):
And then what they did was over the last few years,
good bad are and different Pat McAfee, stephen A. Smith,
like all these different guys, they're bigger than the brand itself,
and they're getting all this kind of money and they're
kind of running the way things work at ESPN. Some
people love it, some people hate it. I happen to
not watch those shows.

Speaker 5 (01:37:19):
It's you know, I'm not mad at or anything like that.
But the one thing, and I can't remember the story
what it was.

Speaker 12 (01:37:25):
But a serious news story happened. I'm trying to think
what it was. Might have been six or eight months ago,
and they literally didn't have anybody to cover it.

Speaker 5 (01:37:34):
It had to be something legal or something like that.
But I mean, and maybe it was NBA related, and
like they had they put Kendrick Perkins on there. I'm like,
come on, man, because.

Speaker 12 (01:37:40):
Remember they used to have like lawyers, and they used
to have like Bob Lee or something like.

Speaker 2 (01:37:44):
That investigated the investigated. Yeah, that would break stuff down.

Speaker 12 (01:37:50):
You can bring guys in, like could you imagine, like
if the oj Simpson trial was on right now, like
you know, Kendrick Perkins or.

Speaker 5 (01:37:56):
Some of these other guys, these buffoons trying to trying
to like playing that. They don't have lawyers, they don't
have straight men anymore.

Speaker 11 (01:38:03):
I get it.

Speaker 12 (01:38:04):
Like that's the way things evolve. A lot of stuff
they're not aiming at me. But you know, depending on
what you think of ESPN, they've either bastardized it to
such a level that it's too frustrating to watch, or
there's a lot of people.

Speaker 5 (01:38:14):
That think, oh this is cool. You know, these tip
shows and people screaming and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:38:18):
I flipped it on last night just because there was
nothing on and I was kind of I was shutting
her down earlier and I was doing I just laying there.
I'm like, all right, like I'll flip on his sports
and I watched Sports Center. I didn't know either one
of the anchors, and and you know, I come thinking,
give me some highlights, give me something, and it's kind
of the same old stuff it was. There's Brian Schottenheimer
from the Dallas practice. There's a controversy with the Lakers sale,

(01:38:41):
a couple of highlights that didn't include any teams relevant
in the American League wildcard race that I'm kind of curious.

Speaker 4 (01:38:46):
I mean, it has evolved.

Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
I would just but I do say I think that
Bill Raspus is a guy that all of us in
the business probably and sports fans as a whole, oh
thank you to Because you know, the other crazy thing
is I'm gonna really date myself now. It used to
be if you were if you turn the television on
at after after whatever late show, it was so like
Letterman's at twelve thirty right after Carson, you turn it

(01:39:10):
all our twelve whatever it was.

Speaker 4 (01:39:12):
If you turn like once Letterman was off, there was
nothing on.

Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Television, like nothing, like like you'd have like a what
do they call it?

Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
Color bars up there?

Speaker 7 (01:39:20):
And that was it.

Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
And now if now that we're old, like guys like
you and me or are a little bit older, right,
what do we do halftime?

Speaker 4 (01:39:27):
Half the time? You can't sleep?

Speaker 2 (01:39:28):
Right, you can't sleep You maake up in the middle
of the night. And I'm like, Okay, I can't sleep.

Speaker 6 (01:39:32):
Why because I'm old?

Speaker 7 (01:39:33):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:39:33):
My life gone wrong? Morning?

Speaker 4 (01:39:36):
So you flip on the TV and every channel is
twenty four to seven. ESPN was twenty four seven.

Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
Before that was a thing, man, So yeah, I mean,
I think Bill Rasbussen, I don't like where it is
now necessarily I'm like Softy tweeted something out Yesterdam and
grig is the only thing I watched now or live events,
you know, like a game but four right, but I
I and.

Speaker 4 (01:39:55):
You work for him, like you said, the brand, the
brand was everything.

Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
They're so branded that way, you know. Yeah, no, our
competitors were branded that way. Now they got they got
away from it because nobody want a lot of people
don't want to be associated with it anymore because now
Mac you know.

Speaker 12 (01:40:10):
The other thing too, is yeah, And the other thing too,
is is like they would what I was in the
business when you know, it really started to become prevalent
that they would stream. So we used to be able
to do a lot of crazy stuff, Like I ran
a station in Dallas. It was owned by ESPN, and
we used to do tons of stuff because they couldn't
hear us. And then once you know, streaming became as
prevalent as it became, they would call me and they're like,

(01:40:33):
what are you doing?

Speaker 4 (01:40:33):
What do you do?

Speaker 2 (01:40:34):
What is this?

Speaker 4 (01:40:34):
What is that?

Speaker 5 (01:40:35):
And I I remember I came up with some I
can't remember what I came up.

Speaker 12 (01:40:38):
With some if you know bit that was probably on
the edge, and I did it on my show, and man,
I got a call like literally one minute after my show.
It's like, yeah, that's not us, that's not ESPN, that's
not the brand. You know they wrote me up and
all that kind of stuff, And now they're doing stuff.
It's just like, because remember ESPN used to be the
place where it's like, you know, you need to sources.

Speaker 5 (01:40:57):
You can't run with this, you can't run with that.

Speaker 12 (01:40:59):
Now if it's it's like it doesn't even matter if
it's an egg account on Twitter.

Speaker 5 (01:41:03):
It's like, if they say so, you can run with
whatever you want as long as it's content.

Speaker 6 (01:41:06):
You know, Yeah, totally different.

Speaker 2 (01:41:09):
I'm shocked that you've got called on the carpet for
something that's stunning to me.

Speaker 5 (01:41:14):
I remember being really funny but knowing. Please, I hope
they didn't listen. I hope that and sure enough to
a one, Yeah we need to have a meeting or
you know, you're doing it. Whatever was wasn't a zoom
back then, but whatever it was.

Speaker 2 (01:41:26):
And what would they think of your bit that you
do at CAMBR or what does CAMBR think? By the way,
I should ask you this if your substation did last week?

Speaker 12 (01:41:37):
Oh they were Yeah, I was two days into the
show and I got my first reprimand yeah, we don't
think that injuries are funny.

Speaker 5 (01:41:45):
Please don't make fun of.

Speaker 12 (01:41:46):
Our injuries because like, for example, their backup quarterback Curtis
Rock got hurt.

Speaker 5 (01:41:51):
So we did this bit. Just one question. I said, hey,
you know, hey, substation, why did you have to get
Curtis Rock hurt? He's just some backup quarterback.

Speaker 12 (01:41:57):
And the substation saying the baby back rib song from Chili's.
They thought that was not funny. I thought it was
really funny. They didn't think it was funny. So it
was in the show and they're like, did you not
do that?

Speaker 2 (01:42:09):
I'm like, all right, you know what, they can every
Seahawks fan thinks it's funny. Keep it up, I say,
I say keep it yeah, I say, keep up the
good work, fella, keep up the good work.

Speaker 5 (01:42:20):
You please. Yeah. They don't have a sense of humor
when it comes to the injuries around here. I don't
know why, but they don't.

Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
All right, well, listen, we'll check in next week unless
you unless you text me at five point forty five
this Saturday, I cannot get I'm not I'm not working
this Saturday.

Speaker 5 (01:42:36):
So there's oh you're not, you'll drinking.

Speaker 12 (01:42:39):
Well, there'll be a t I did you and you
and Cam Cleveland on a national call. I was like,
oh my god, I'm cool man, and I appreciate you
going through the traffic.

Speaker 5 (01:42:47):
By the way, if if, even if if it was you,
I would because you know, we do this all the time,
but like we even through traffic and being on the
phone not the most fun thing in the world. Miss
it turn here and there.

Speaker 4 (01:42:55):
That's no, it was fine. It was easy. I'm stealth.
I got my way out of there.

Speaker 2 (01:43:00):
But it was Yeah, Cam, Cam's awesome, by the way,
like it's I mean he's a husky, so that you know,
that's the one downside.

Speaker 5 (01:43:05):
But yeah, that's the problem.

Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
He's he's really really good, like like he'll probably those
guys will want him back. They probably won't want me back,
but they'll want him back for sure. So if they
find out that I associate with you, they'll definitely not
want me back.

Speaker 5 (01:43:23):
Yeah, that's a problem.

Speaker 4 (01:43:25):
Hey there's another guy that did that thing, substation.

Speaker 2 (01:43:29):
Go do go do your thing.

Speaker 4 (01:43:31):
Go do your thing. I'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
If not sooner, unless you guys call me in this weekend,
I'll be around see you buddy.

Speaker 4 (01:43:36):
All right. That's a that's a great job.

Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
That's a great John Lund joining us here as he
does every Tuesday. We'll take a break. We got some
text to get to four nine four or five one
comadat text line. We'll do that coming up next.

Speaker 13 (01:43:49):
I kind of wonder if there's something that with Cow's
vision and I don't just mean his eye for pitches.
I know this might sound simplistic, but.

Speaker 7 (01:43:57):
Mean, you never know.

Speaker 13 (01:43:58):
When was the last time he got his checked, his
actual vision checked. I mean, you know, when you get
to this, I know mine started to go sideways randomly
out of nowhere just a little bit, and just a
little bit can really affect your depth perception.

Speaker 3 (01:44:12):
So I don't know, just something I was just thinking about, you.

Speaker 4 (01:44:15):
Know, certainly could be the case.

Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
Oh god, can you imagine the absolute egregious errors on
this staff of a medical staff. If they didn't think
of that, though, it'd be bad, like because it I mean,
I think a lot of people have probably thought.

Speaker 4 (01:44:33):
That, what the hell's going on with here? Like why
can he not? I want to see who was it?
They got?

Speaker 12 (01:44:39):
Was it?

Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
JP got his eyes fixed a couple of years ago,
and it made a big difference somebody on the team
that that has happened recently. We're like, oh yeah, I
thought my eyes were good and there's different cal Can
I interest you and my friends at a aurorasic dot com?

Speaker 4 (01:44:53):
Here you go?

Speaker 2 (01:44:53):
You know what, they could take care of you. They
can make sure you're fine, they'll take care of what
all your problems are.

Speaker 7 (01:44:58):
All right?

Speaker 4 (01:45:00):
Four nine four five one.

Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
Let's check the text here, Okay, before ESPN we stay
up late on Sunday night watch the sports Machine. A
lot of people mentioned the old sports Machine, the George
Michael Sports Machine, way way before your time, right, Trav.

Speaker 3 (01:45:14):
Yeah, before my time.

Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
George Michael was a a sports anchor based in Washington,
d C. And he started doing a national show on
Sunday nights. It was syndicated. It aired out here at
eleven thirty after the local news and I think it
a layered live, you know, eleven thirty back east and
it was and he hit like every highlight imaginable across

(01:45:36):
the country.

Speaker 4 (01:45:38):
Yeah, so, I mean I thought it was. I thought
it was.

Speaker 2 (01:45:41):
Yeah, he was kind of before the before the times
as well. Yeah, it's I used to watch Austine rules
football on the ESPN the early days. Yeah, it used
to be what they would do on ESPN is they
would fill time with wrestling pro like pro wrestling and
not like now where it's like a thing now it's
now it's like we're gonna break down a match on Monday,

(01:46:02):
right raw, which is just ridiculous. No, they would just
show like a wrestling match with the von Erics from
Dallas or Austin rules football at two in.

Speaker 4 (01:46:09):
The morning, and it was fine. I liked that. I
liked I missed those days. I missed those days.

Speaker 2 (01:46:13):
Let's see what else we got a lot of people
don't like stephen A and George and Pat McAfee. That's fine,
I get that, Marcus says, unless there's a game on.
I haven't watched ESPN in years.

Speaker 3 (01:46:26):
Here's here's here's years.

Speaker 2 (01:46:30):
Yeah, so yes, I did, Greg, thank you. Let's see
Derek from Sultan here. Pump for Fantasy won two of
two leagues last year, because you guys, we have a
high bar to meet. Oh god, somebody won because I
know I didn't.

Speaker 4 (01:46:44):
I checked.

Speaker 7 (01:46:45):
We all know.

Speaker 4 (01:46:45):
That's all. That's well.

Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
Yeah, by the way, Funston will be on Thursday. We
will take your questions on the text line on Thursday
for Funston.

Speaker 4 (01:46:55):
We won't do phone calls. Let's do folks.

Speaker 2 (01:46:57):
We're gonna run through probably running backs, maybe running backs
and quarterbacks, maybe just running backs in your questions for
your fantasy draft. To get closer if you have keeper questions.
But Week two of Brandon Funston coming up on this
Thursday at two pm, So get ready for that. God
winning two or two leagues, I lest like to win one.
That'd be awesome. Let's see what else we got here. Wow,

(01:47:20):
I haven't heard about George Michael sports machine in the years.
That brought back some memories.

Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
Lol.

Speaker 2 (01:47:26):
Marcus says, can't wait for Friday getting as many growlers
as they allow.

Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
They'll you can take, you can take as many as
you want.

Speaker 2 (01:47:32):
I should mention that third coming up on Friday will
be the Mayor of Maple Valley or I'm sorry, the
Mayor IPA will be debuting. It's sixty year I mean,
double check. I'm really bad with this trave Let's see
twenty four. This will be year seven, actually year seven
of the Mayor. I pa at George down Brewing coming

(01:47:54):
up on Friday. I'll do the show there from twelve
to three and probably hang out afterwards for a little
while as well. Every dollar, every cent not a percentage.
They don't Georgetown didn't say we're gonna donate five, ten, twenty,
forty or fifty percent of every pint growler sale to
the charities. Every cent they donate, the labor, they donate,

(01:48:15):
the hard costs of the ingredients. Everything goes right to
those three charities for the Mayor. IPA debuts for year
number seven coming up this Friday. I think they open
around ten or eleven, but again we'll be there at noon.
Come on, buy anytime, Marcus. As many growlers as you want, buddy,
take as many as you want. There is no they'll

(01:48:36):
kind of limit you if you start hammering beers there.

Speaker 4 (01:48:39):
Pints.

Speaker 2 (01:48:40):
I'm gonna guess you only want a pint or two
of the mayor on site if you're driving, because it's
probably in the mid sixes. I'ven't seen. I'm gonna find
out tomorrow. I'm making a stop down there to finalize everything.
But yeah, we're gonna have a great time. Can't wait
till Friday. It's always a really cool time down there
at Georgetown. So that's coming up Friday at noon to three.
And then again it'll go and sell and tell it's

(01:49:00):
all gone. Have the Mariner's gone twenty four and fourteen
in any stretch this season, only an eight game winning streak.

Speaker 4 (01:49:06):
That was it. We talked about it.

Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
They've only had one stretch this year where they've won
three straight series and that was that eight game that
a game winning streak along the way, right, I like
this one two five three, The most I don't thing
ever would be for us to bitch about the Marriors
all year long, and for them to sneak in and
win the World Series, there won't be enough room on
the bandwagon. There'll be plenty of room. There will be
plenty of room. And I agree. That's why I've been

(01:49:27):
kind of staying somewhat. I want to say, I'm positive
but somewhat optimistic about their chances. And I think Joe
just mentioned if you missed our conversation with Joe Sheen earlier,
I thought he had a great point, like, roster wise,
just look at the roster and especially the starting pitching
of that mushy middle of teams trying to get that

(01:49:48):
third wildcard spot.

Speaker 6 (01:49:49):
And or you could.

Speaker 2 (01:49:50):
Probably say the same thing about the AO West. They've
got the best roster, especially starting pitching, of anybody. And
I would not be stunned. I know a lot of
people would be. I would not be stunned if they
got in and took a massive run in the playoffs
at all, because you do a pitching, especially in the postseason,
and it would be the most mari of thing for
everyone to be pissed off all season long, all season long.

(01:50:13):
Matt as hell of these guys, Matt is hell with
these dudes, and all of a sudden boom, they get
on a run and they get on a heater and
they get going. That would not shock anybody at all.

Speaker 10 (01:50:25):
Let's see also September, there's plenty of winnable series in September.
You got the A's twice, the Angels twice. Colorado. Yeah,
can come away with a bunch of series wins there.

Speaker 4 (01:50:39):
Let's see.

Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
I don't care what the official lines are, says the
two six. I did not think. I think Cal did
not get a chance to get healthy and needs to
know and the team needs to know when health is
more important than looking like you're contributing all the time.
Baseball Players, I feel have a hard time coming back
from lingering or during season injuries. He goes on, I
just think it's hard for us to speculate on a
player health. I mean, we joked about the vision earlier.

(01:51:02):
Go see our friends that are or Lasik. It's just hard.
We're not in the locker room. I mean, they have
medical staffs that are highly trained. His bat speed hasn't
diminished to a point where we'd be concerning it's down
a little bit. I know, just talking to Eno Sirius
every Thursday. It's down a little bit, but not significantly
enough for you to go. Man, there must be something
really wrong with him in that regard. So all right,
thanks the text, appreciate it. Let's take a break. We'll

(01:51:23):
come back soft you join. Just coming up next, I
should mention that NFL network reporting Tramon Diggs, former cornerback
from the Cowboys, Packers other teams, worked out for the
Seahawks today.

Speaker 9 (01:51:40):
Another connection to Adam Dirday and DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante
Fowler and unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (01:51:46):
Also in the Alabama guy, what's I was.

Speaker 9 (01:51:47):
Gonna say, there's a kind of Alabama, Yeah, I guess
pre twenty fifteen, Yes, and then there's a Cowboys post
twenty twenty.

Speaker 6 (01:51:57):
It's wild all Carl Scott too.

Speaker 4 (01:51:59):
Yeah. Cars.

Speaker 2 (01:52:00):
Also what they think of their quarterback then right right
after whatever.

Speaker 7 (01:52:04):
They can think.

Speaker 6 (01:52:05):
That's a real mustache on Brady Hankers, by the way.

Speaker 4 (01:52:08):
Taking off off. Yeah, it's coming off just like.

Speaker 9 (01:52:12):
That is just like Witness Protection program grade right there.

Speaker 6 (01:52:16):
Listen, Hey, you want to jump on unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (01:52:20):
Listen, if you was good looking to that guy, you know,
he's a good looking dude.

Speaker 6 (01:52:23):
He really is.

Speaker 4 (01:52:24):
You can you can wear whatever you want.

Speaker 9 (01:52:26):
The best looking guys, not the worst looking guy. Maybe
that's a bracket over the summer next year on the show.

Speaker 4 (01:52:30):
Best Looking Media Guys in Seattle.

Speaker 6 (01:52:32):
That's right, and the worst looking media guys.

Speaker 9 (01:52:34):
So you and I on that one bringing up the rear.
Is a good looking dude, Yeah, Soger is a good
looking guy. I think we can start with our guys.
Best looking dude on kJ R.

Speaker 4 (01:52:46):
That's a good questions.

Speaker 7 (01:52:48):
Would you make number one?

Speaker 4 (01:52:49):
There's no right now.

Speaker 6 (01:52:49):
I mean Jesson Ashley number one and one B.

Speaker 7 (01:52:52):
But it's guys.

Speaker 9 (01:52:53):
He's doing dudes alright, fine, I don't think any of
us from the bracket. Moga are you there by the way,
I'm here. Are you still in the studio or he's
taking off?

Speaker 5 (01:53:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (01:53:01):
He usual.

Speaker 4 (01:53:01):
He usually just leaves like twenty minutes ago.

Speaker 9 (01:53:04):
Who would you say is the best looking full time
employee at this rate?

Speaker 3 (01:53:07):
I think Andrews is a handsome guy and looking guy.

Speaker 9 (01:53:10):
Yeah, Andrew's good looking guy. Jackson, little pudgy you know whatever?
You know, I look too much like pee wee Herman.
You got a weird Canadian thing going on. I don't
know what's going on. The pee wee herman s unbelievable. Yeah,
big time, really seen it.

Speaker 4 (01:53:24):
Yeah, I don't want to think about that.

Speaker 9 (01:53:25):
You're seeing the picture of me and my buddy Casey. Yeah,
you at the Apple Theater dressed up as No.

Speaker 6 (01:53:31):
The fact you know what, the fact that you even
know what that is. I told you this is a
lot about you.

Speaker 4 (01:53:36):
I told you.

Speaker 2 (01:53:37):
I drove by that place every day on the way
on the way to Odei High School on Bourne Avenue,
and then we turned eighteen.

Speaker 6 (01:53:45):
And wait a minute, wasn't the apple on First Avenue?

Speaker 4 (01:53:48):
The apple was a little one?

Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
Apple was on first What was the one on the
little what was a little one up on Bourn Avenues?

Speaker 6 (01:53:52):
That must have been a different one, man, I think
that was the grapefruit.

Speaker 4 (01:53:56):
The orange? But actually number five, the number five orange
is a stripling, right, I do know that.

Speaker 9 (01:54:01):
Oh, this is just devolved. Yeah, we really need the
Seahawks season to start. Well, I was because I was
not here yesterday.

Speaker 6 (01:54:09):
And either was I.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
Oh you weren't.

Speaker 6 (01:54:10):
No, I was in the studio.

Speaker 2 (01:54:12):
Well no, first time, but I wasn't here listening to
the radio stage. Oh yeah, you were off here in Westport.

Speaker 4 (01:54:16):
I heard.

Speaker 2 (01:54:16):
I was just driving back, but I missed your breakdown
the top ten things for the preseason game.

Speaker 9 (01:54:23):
That's because it didn't happen. It didn't happen. I tried
to do it. Man, I didn't watch it live. I'll
admit it.

Speaker 4 (01:54:29):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (01:54:30):
I started watching it yesterday morning.

Speaker 4 (01:54:32):
What happened?

Speaker 9 (01:54:33):
And my eyeballs started bleeding. Yes, and I quit about
halfway through the second quarter. Yeah, I just couldn't stand it.
I mean, there was no more scoring obviously after that
first first driving, the first drive. You know, what's the
guy's name from Michigan State, the wide receiver, Montoria Foster, Right,
Ntoria Foster. I felt bad because I was on with
our our buddies over at King yesterday in the ariel.

Speaker 4 (01:54:54):
You had no idea who he was?

Speaker 6 (01:54:55):
No, no, no, I had. I told you he was on
the practice squad last year.

Speaker 5 (01:54:59):
Here.

Speaker 6 (01:54:59):
Yeah, I know, come on, I'm not that big of
an idiot. I'm an idiot, but not that big of
an idiot. And so she's like, isn't it great that
he's got a personality in this story?

Speaker 9 (01:55:07):
I was like, yeah, well that'll be fine and good
when he gets cut in three weeks.

Speaker 4 (01:55:12):
There's a lot of stories and personnelity is bad about that.

Speaker 9 (01:55:15):
Yeah, we had the gallon from Hard Knocks last night
Kaylee Campon, who's the one of.

Speaker 4 (01:55:19):
The directors pots.

Speaker 9 (01:55:20):
Of Hard Knocks, and I asked her about, you know
how they don't do the cuts anymore?

Speaker 6 (01:55:24):
They don't show that.

Speaker 4 (01:55:24):
Why is that?

Speaker 6 (01:55:25):
Well, there's first of all, because it's just.

Speaker 9 (01:55:27):
A one day, they don't have as much to choose
from anymore. And then number two, I think they just
the the league wanted them to get away from things
that could be deemed as controversial. And I even asked her,
like with with Donald, Brady might want to write about
this with with Donald and Cooper cut. Remember the scene
they're talking about Lebron, right, and they're both complimenting Lebron.

(01:55:48):
So I asked her if they had ripped Lebron, would
you have put that in there? And she basically said no,
I mean, can you imagine a bigger story that would
have been Super Bowl champion quarterback criticizes Lebron James awesome
first signing, would have been great for us, But they
don't want to do that.

Speaker 6 (01:56:04):
Well, they don't want to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
The thing with the cuts was. I thought that was.
It's it's a human interest story. You're following these guys
from day one to camp. They're grinding and they get cut. Yeah,
and they go to Arby.

Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
Because because you find well, you know, you find yourself
rooting for them, right, such a knucklehead.

Speaker 6 (01:56:20):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:56:21):
Oh my god.

Speaker 6 (01:56:22):
Arby's is great. I love our.

Speaker 9 (01:56:25):
There used to be one up and I think that's
still there up in north Gate, across the freeway from
the Kraken. I think it's still there the other side.

Speaker 6 (01:56:33):
Of I five.

Speaker 4 (01:56:33):
I've explored over there.

Speaker 6 (01:56:34):
I've stopped there all the time.

Speaker 2 (01:56:36):
Man, I you know, I drove by one on the
way to west the aforementioned Westport, and I saw a sign. Well,
because if you drive through Aberdeen, Aberdeen is fast food heaven.
They have that little strip. They even have a Dutch Brothers.
Is the Star Wars store is still there?

Speaker 6 (01:56:51):
Or is it gone?

Speaker 13 (01:56:52):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:56:52):
I know, I think it is.

Speaker 6 (01:56:54):
It's still there.

Speaker 4 (01:56:54):
It's right before you take a left to the west.

Speaker 5 (01:56:55):
Great.

Speaker 9 (01:56:56):
You know what, I'll confirm for you. Let me know
next time you go anyway. I I'm a Kirk Cobain.

Speaker 2 (01:57:01):
It is right, And but I drive by the Arby's
and a little science says try our chief steaks a right,
And I'm telling you.

Speaker 6 (01:57:08):
Right now, that's a delicatessen out there.

Speaker 7 (01:57:10):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:57:10):
I was thinking to myself, Oh god, I gotta try
the Army's chief steak.

Speaker 4 (01:57:13):
I bet it's good.

Speaker 6 (01:57:14):
I bet it's a five star meal. Oh anyway, Yeah,
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:57:19):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:57:19):
I uh, preseason, you're fired up?

Speaker 6 (01:57:21):
I am so dumb.

Speaker 4 (01:57:21):
Don't you wish you were in Tennessee watching joint practice.

Speaker 6 (01:57:24):
I'd rather watch that to watch the game, honestly.

Speaker 4 (01:57:26):
About on Saturday.

Speaker 6 (01:57:28):
That's my whole point. Yeah, that's what I told the
people of king.

Speaker 9 (01:57:31):
Yes, I'm more fired up for the fights and the
joint practice.

Speaker 6 (01:57:34):
Man, I swinging helmets and all that. Oh yeah, bring
it off. Let's go donny Brook. Yeah, why not.

Speaker 4 (01:57:40):
I'd better. I'd like to be there. Just go to Nashville.

Speaker 9 (01:57:42):
Don't you think that the the Football Broadway designate a
fight squad of guys that have no chance of making
the team. Yeah, and you guys, you five goons, yeah,
are in charge of boxing those five goons.

Speaker 6 (01:57:53):
If things get out of.

Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
Control, go just run on the field. Everyone, if you're
on the sideline, right, just jumping.

Speaker 9 (01:57:59):
Right, all right, DeMarcus Lawrence, Ernest Jones, get the hell out,
get off. Here comes Goon one, Goon two. Yeah, it's
like a it's like a hockey line just checking in, right.
How great would that be?

Speaker 4 (01:58:09):
Judging from the.

Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
Fact that they are bringing in every retread cornerback available.
My guess is, if you're not Devin Witherspoon, ne am
I appreach it or Josh Job about Iggy?

Speaker 5 (01:58:21):
Uh No?

Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
I think you, guys, that's your that's where you start
with you would you call the goon squad, goon squad,
goon squad?

Speaker 9 (01:58:28):
Fight club? First rule about fight club. We don't talk
about talking about you don't want to be on fight club. Well,
maybe it's a sign that the Terry On Arnold thing
is not gonna happen. I thought it was really weird, guys,
and I said this on the aar of Friday and
Dick and Jackson disagreed with me. And I even texted
Curtis and he disagreed too. I thought it was weird
that the Seahawks came out and spoke publicly about a

(01:58:49):
player that signed yet.

Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
So I was talking to Greg greg Bell about that today.
Greg greg Bell and we said, like, never have they
ever heard, They've never spoken about a air that's not
officially signed before he was, and it's one thing on
hard knocks behind the scenes. But last Monday, so we
could go yesterday. Because I'm a hard working guy. I

(01:59:11):
stuck around from the Mike McDonald post practic. I stuck
around for Prescott and asked a couple of questions. Anyway
he's talked about it. Eight questions about and he answered
all of them like he was here. Yeah, normally what
you hear is, you know, hey, we're boring every opportunity.
We can't really talk about it right. Instead, they talked
about like he's already under contract the next five years.

Speaker 9 (01:59:32):
It's very strange. I thought it was very odd. I
just don't don't agree with you. No, those guys didn't.
I mean, I understood Curtis's point that you know, everyone
knows he's being signed.

Speaker 6 (01:59:41):
Well, okay, but he hasn't signed yet.

Speaker 4 (01:59:43):
And that's not what they've never done. That's very odd to.

Speaker 9 (01:59:45):
Hear anybody I think in town doing that, right, anybody
that was not good, that.

Speaker 4 (01:59:49):
Was not good, not good, that's not good at all. Well,
talk about it.

Speaker 6 (01:59:53):
We can't talk about that right, would will be zapped?

Speaker 5 (01:59:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (01:59:56):
Won't.

Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
You won't be allowed to come back tomorrow. We're not
here tomore anyway, I've already done. Now we are done.
After today?

Speaker 4 (02:00:01):
What are you doing?

Speaker 7 (02:00:02):
What's today? Tuesday?

Speaker 9 (02:00:03):
Willner is on today. Husky fans that hate Willinger won't
want to hear him.

Speaker 6 (02:00:07):
At five o'clock.

Speaker 4 (02:00:08):
Oh.

Speaker 9 (02:00:08):
I read his call him today and that he's very
complimentary of the Huskies. Man has him ranked thirteenth and
the eight people. I think he's got the second highest ranking.
McMurphy had him in the top ten. You see the
Fox poll that has you guys as like the worst
team in college football, by the way, they ranked a
one hundred and thirty eight teams, and you guys are
number one. That's what I said, Like, what do you know?
They got a brand new head coach, they got a

(02:00:28):
brand new quarterback. By the way, who's your guy gonna be?
Is it the kid from Polly Panic?

Speaker 6 (02:00:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:00:33):
I don't know if it's might be.

Speaker 9 (02:00:36):
I saw Pinnock last year in person, and I was like, now,
he didn't have a lot of talent around him on
going up against the dogs.

Speaker 6 (02:00:42):
That's a different thing.

Speaker 2 (02:00:43):
I might also say that might be like watching poor
Jalen Milroll play with the four offensive one.

Speaker 4 (02:00:48):
You know, hard to judge.

Speaker 6 (02:00:49):
You know who his backup was?

Speaker 9 (02:00:50):
That Cal Poly's Cam's kid, Yeah, trainer, Yeah yeah, right,
all right, So I learned that on Saturday night during
the during the broadcast, that it was his birthday on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:00:58):
I gave him and I appreciate I wished him a
happy birthday right at the end, right right, got it
right at the end. Actually, thinking about it, I had
a whole fourth quarter. I could have got that out there.

Speaker 9 (02:01:07):
Yeah you should have. I mean, what the hell else
were you talking about? Well, you know they want to.

Speaker 6 (02:01:13):
Cam, let's spend the fourth quarter recapping your last twenty.

Speaker 4 (02:01:15):
Five you know what? They wanted us to play it straight?

Speaker 6 (02:01:18):
Did they really?

Speaker 4 (02:01:19):
Yes, they didn't tell you that.

Speaker 7 (02:01:20):
Oh come on?

Speaker 2 (02:01:20):
Yeah, and no Homer is in. Actually we're supposed to
be more Homers for Dallas.

Speaker 7 (02:01:24):
Yeah, which is fine.

Speaker 6 (02:01:25):
Probably a lot more cowboy fans tuning in.

Speaker 9 (02:01:27):
Well, anyway, So Willner's on today, Brian Schmetzer's on today.
It's his birthday, Yeah sixty four. Ww wait till you
hear what he's got planned for his birthday.

Speaker 2 (02:01:35):
By the way, probably I think something you and I
would never do Early Bird Special Denny's something you and
I would never ever do, ever like would even think
about doing.

Speaker 6 (02:01:44):
All right, right, I want you to listen. I'm telling you.

Speaker 9 (02:01:47):
What is that six pm to night. And then DeMarcus
Lawrence will join us after practice today. Uh he's not here,
so Tuesday is off.

Speaker 6 (02:01:55):
Okay for the mild mannered and marginally objectionable e Inverness,
this is paddle day, saying so long everyone,
