Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's a meat Friday at that coming up in a
couple of minutes, Charles Barkley will stop by case you're wondering.
Trager grills fired up, So were we reverse seared ribbis,
loaded mashed potatoes, grilled corn on the cob.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Who has it better than we.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Do down a danet pably not here today, but Fitzi's here,
the Minister of Humor, Seaton, Marveyr's Truley, and the back
room guys. Speaking of Charles Barkley, he just put out
a statement that says clear the NBA has wanted to
break up with us from the beginning. I'm not sure

(00:43):
TNT ever had a chance. TNT matched the money, but
the league knows Amazon and these tech companies are the
only ones willing to pay for the rights when they
double in the future. The NBA didn't want to piss
them off. It's a sad day when owner and commissioners
choose money over the fans.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
It just sucks.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I just want to thank everyone who has been at
Turner for the last twenty four years. They're the best
people and the most talented and they deserved better. I
just also want to thank the NBA and its fans,
the best fans in sports. We're going to give you everything.
We have next season that is Charles Sparkley, So they
have a lane Duck season there with TNT and Charles

(01:27):
will be there for the final season.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
The question is what does he do after that.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
He has not necessarily hinted, he's actually said it that
he is going to retire.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
But we'll talk to Charles Barkley. He'll join us coming up.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Stat of the Day is brought to you, as always
by Panini America, the official trading cards.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Of the program.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
In a little less than an hour from now, the
opening ceremony of the Olympics. Yes, it will be noon
Eastern on NBC and Peacock Basketball coming up this weekend,
Team USA versus Serbia, Kevin rant and Steph Curry got
together and they were asked this question.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
A short question outside of Team US.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
So do you think will be the biggest star this
basketball tournament?

Speaker 5 (02:12):
You're honest? Honest? Maybe Jokis and got some options.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yeah, yeah, A game is global now, man, So all
these guys are huge stars in their own ways. You know,
did you see the thing that they said the Dreams
team played against nine Yeah, right, nine NBA players played
like sixties something. Yeah, we're playing sixty five sixty four
NBA players now, and you know so, they're all the

(02:37):
best of the best in the world, you know.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
So, And they're right about this.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
The Dream Team didn't have to face this kind of
competition because of the Dream Team. This year's Olympic team
has to face this kind of competition because the rest
of the world is catching up, has caught up, and
the best players in the world, probably the top four
or five best players, are not from the United States.
We talked to Grant Hill, who built this roster this

(03:03):
Olympic team, the former NBA Great Hall of Famer, and
you know, we talked about how does Team USA does
USA basketball, Like, do they have to start rethinking how
they're teaching basketball here because AAU took over and if
you watch AAU basketball, it can be rough to watch

(03:25):
because everybody feels like they're the next Step or Lebron
and they're not. It's not necessarily esthetically pleasing basketball. And
you'll find the international game there's far more passing. They
are really big on moving the ball and I think
your big men are taught to play like guards. You're

(03:45):
brought up to be a good ball handler, right left, shoot,
good footwork, and so you add that with you know,
some size, some talent, and you're seeing these players develop.
And look, they've had the benefit of looking at NBA
players who have played before they played against them. Luca's
been a professional since he's fifteen. Anybody could have drafted

(04:09):
the Joker most anybody could have gotten the Greek freak.
What they do when they get the opportunity and wanting
to be great, especially Jannis. I mean that's a difference too.
Sometimes you get players who already think, hey, I've got there,
I got to the league. No, they got to the
league then they wanted to prove they belonged that they

(04:29):
could be a great player.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Shay gilgis Alexander.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
He was in the Paul George trade and most people thought, wow,
you know, the Clippers got Paul George instead of realizing
Oklahoma City got one of the top five players in
the country, in the world.

Speaker 6 (04:43):
Yes, it's almost like focusing on technique and your skills
at a younger age that everybody shares. Right, whether you're
nobody knows how tall, you're going to be at certain ages, right,
But if you focus on your handles and your footwork
and all of those things, and things that won't necessarily
leave you or you can learn at a younger age

(05:04):
but are harder to learn when you get older once
you hit a certain age. It's really just like tactics,
you know, and certain how do you move an offense,
how you cover on defense, how you you know. It's
like learning the game rather than the ability to play.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
It's like Elijah One.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Elijah One had such great footwork that it's almost like
he had a point guard's footwork, but he had that
as a big man, and that was kind of rare.
I mentioned Charles Barkley kind enough to join us. He
put out a statement kind of saying goodbye to TNT
this upcoming season and the NBA moving on as well.
Charles joining us on the program tough to read that.

(05:42):
I could feel the hurt in your voice there. So
how you feel now?

Speaker 5 (05:49):
I just feel sadness for the people I work with.
You know, a lot of people, a lot of great
people gonna lose their job, you know, Dan, I've been
with these guys for twenty four years. Senior you see
them have kids, you see them graduate high school, you
see them graduate college. So it's just a sad day
for everybody at TNT. I just feel I just feel sadness.

(06:12):
I'm not worried about me, Shaq, Kenny and Ernie, but
I'm really concerned about the people behind the scenes because
you know then, and what's really awkward about it, we
got one more year, so these guys are gonna have
to be like, wait a minute, I know I'm gonna
get fired in a year. What do I do do
I look for other opportunities that might dry up in

(06:34):
a year. So that that what really sucks for the
people behind the scenes.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
How did we get to this point?

Speaker 5 (06:42):
Money? Uh, the money has just gotten gotten so astronomical,
and the owners want they need this money to pay
these players, and the fans are a big loser, but
they need this money to pay the players. I'm then
I was telling some friends of mine, you know how

(07:03):
old I am. I remember the first time an NBA
player that made a million dollars. We were going around
the locker room high five in each other and I'm
talking like I'm in hey. Then I'm in the locker
room with doctor J. Moses, Maurice Cheeks, Andrew Tony, Clement Johnson,
all these guys. We're like, we can't And this was
like eighty six, eighty seven. I think the first time
an NBA player made a million dollars, we were highly like,

(07:26):
we can't believe it. And now a million dollars, that's
pret be them.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Your boss at TNT probably didn't help the cause when
he said that we don't need the NBA. So I
wonder what the priority was with the NBA, Like we wanted,
but we wanted at a certain price.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Yeah, that's not a lot of talk about that, to
be honest with you. Did they have something to do
with it? Not really, because we did say we would match,
so yeah, but they didn't give us an opportunity. What
I really think happened was because they bought it another partner.
This was a last ditch cash grab by the NBA

(08:10):
and the players. That's why I think they signed an
eleven year deal. Say they're like, hey, let's get as
much money as we possibly can right now. This is
gonna be our last bite of the apple. Because T
and T ABCSPN, they're not gonna pay more money going forward.

(08:31):
That's why I think they're like, hey, you know what,
let's get in bed, and I don't. I'm not blame
because I love Adam. I love Adam. Hey let's get
in bed with the streaming because that's what they're going
to be the only people who can afford us in
eleven years. That's just my honest opinion.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
All right, So what are you going to do when
this upcoming season is over?

Speaker 5 (08:52):
You know my intention right now is to retire. So, Dan,
I've never said this before. What I'll share with you
because you know, I got a lot of love for you.
So my deal, There's been a lot of numbers thrown
around about my deal, which I always find fascinating, but
I've never told people exactly what my deal was. So
my deal is ten years, two hundred and ten million dollars.

(09:16):
We're in next year'll be year three. Turner has to
come to me today or next week and say, hey,
we screwed up. Will you take a pay cut? And
so they either gonna have to guarantee the whole ten

(09:38):
years to ten or they're gonna have to make ask
me to take a pay cut, which under no circumstances
am I taking a pay cut? Zero chances of me
taking a pay cut, So then I'll be i'most say
I'm gonna politely decline taking a pay cut because TNT

(10:01):
has been great to me, and they gonna have to
say we're gonna guarantee to hold two ten or Charles
Wade Barkley's gonna be a free agent after next year.
So it's gonna be a very interesting next few days.
But that's the way my deal. I structured my contract.
They wanted me. I was like, wait, if y'all lose

(10:21):
the NBA, why should I get screwed? I said that
is like, well, let's make a let's come to some
type of agreement. I said. The agreement is ODI, we
get to make you an offer. I said, that's fine,
I'm gonna turn it down because I'm not taking a
pay cut because y'all screwed up. And so that's where
we're at.

Speaker 7 (10:39):
Dan.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
So apparently, unless they, like I say, they can, but
I don't see them guaranteeing it. To be honest, they
don't really have anything. So I think I'm gonna be
a free agent next summer, and I'm gonna have to
sit back and like I say, right now, I'm not
trying to be this or this or this. Right now,
my intention is to retire because then, I mean, you've
done it quite a few times, and Fairness went to

(11:01):
another network started over. I'm not sure. I love T
and T so much and the people here. I don't
know if I want to go to another network. Like
I'll never say never, but right now my intention is
to stay to let and go out with a bang.
We're gonna give everything we got next year because out
of lowty to the NBA and their fans. And I
want to say to something all the fans out there, Man,

(11:22):
you guys been great. You guys been great to me.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
You know, when I was in Tahoo a couple of
weeks ago, everybody saying, guys, don't go us to do
we don't want to go, but we're going. Hey, in
first of all, I me saying, this is like the
worst kept secret in the history of force broadcasting. Like
we knew we were done like five six months ago.
They're like, well, we're still alive. We're still alive. Like yo, man,

(11:47):
please stop lying to us. We know it's over. Just
go ahead and announce it. So there is a sense
of relief to be honest with you to the employees,
because I've been spending a lot of time with the
employees lately and they just wanted it to be over
because they got to start playing for their future.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Yeah, but why can't you guys still do your show?
If I'm Amazon, why wouldn't Amazon say, why don't we
capitalize on the best you know, pregame show that there
is out there and bring you guys in, keep everybody
in Atlanta, keep all the producers.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
And you guys, you know, just produce your show.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
Well, first of all, you have to ask Ernie that,
because Ernie is the guy who probably would never leave Turner.
But Dan, everything's on the table.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
Have you has somebody spoken to Amazon?

Speaker 5 (12:39):
I have spoken to all three networks.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
So you spoke to Amazon.

Speaker 5 (12:43):
I have spoke to all three networks, so.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
You spoke to Amazon.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
I have spoke to all three networks. Dan, who got
the NBA going forward?

Speaker 2 (12:51):
I know Amazon? Amazon is where you.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
Let me say this. I have spoken for the last
three months. I've spoken to all the networks.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
That doesn't sound like somebody who's gonna retire.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Well, Dan, I'm gonna listen. I'm gonna listen. I mean,
first of all, I'd be stupid not to take their call.
But the beauty of this situation, I don't have to
make any decisions for a year, Dan, But I told
all three networks, Hey, I'm honored, I'm flattered that y'all
want to talk to me. But let's see what happens

(13:29):
in a year. So that's the great thing about it.
From my perspective, I don't have to make any decisions
for a year. But like I say, my intention, I'm
not trying to play hardball. I'm not trying to get attention.
My attention right now is to retire. Like I say,

(13:49):
Ernie would never go to another network. I have not
talked to Kenny and Shack, but I have listened to everybody,
and like I say, got a year, Dan, I ain't
got to worry about this is all this stuff is
just knowing for a year. To be honest with.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
You, Okay, would you go someplace without Ernie or without
let's say Shaq and Kenny. Let's say Ernie is not leaving,
staying TNT Atlanta, would you on your own go to
another network to be part of their NBA broadcast.

Speaker 5 (14:26):
I'm not frozen. I'm thinking that's a great question, Dan,
I don't know how to answer that question. You know,
I ain't gonna never lie to you. I don't know
how to answer that question right now because I don't know.
First of all, I don't know who's got what going forward.

(14:46):
Like when I had these conversations with these companies, they're like,
we're finalizing what we're going to have, So I would
have to sit back. Hey, ESPN, tell me what you
guys got and what you want me to do. Amazon,
tell me what you got and what you want me
to do. NBC tell me what you got and what
you want me to do until they finalize what they got,

(15:10):
because there was rumors when we were like, we're gonna
lose the comfort even if we retain the NBA, we're
gonna lose the day of the week. We're gonna lose
the conference finals every other year. So when I talk
to these companies, I say, get back to me when
you know what you got.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
That's fair. Amazon's got the money, though.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Then everybody's got money. They're paying two billion dollars a year.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
No, no, no, Amazon's got money.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Hey, I'd be a fool not to say I'm a god.
I don't listen to Amazon. I'm not that stupid.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
I agree. I think you're gonna continue to do it.
You got to talk to somebody.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
I do, Dan, I talk to them all.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
No, no, no, I'm saying you. You have to have
an audience to talk to.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
Dan. I'm six or two.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I'm six years older than you, and I still need
an audience to talk to.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
And so do you.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
Man, you know what I want to tell you something.
You a coward too.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
I saw you play in Tahoe. Oh my god, you
have no business talking about anything.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Oh let me tell you something.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Let you carry my bag.

Speaker 5 (16:25):
No, no, that there was five people who said to me, Man,
you gotta get Damn Patrick back out here. I'm telling
you there's five people. I said, Dan Patrick is a coward.
He is scared to play golf on television. He has
an open invitation. But I said, Dad Hay said, I
love Dan, but they're just a coward. Because I know

(16:45):
what happened. I remember the last time you played in Tahoe.
Them little putts that they give you at the country club,
that you kept three putts from like two inches. Hey,
if to look a shock on your face when you
we wouldn't give you give me and you were three Putton.
It was one of the best things I've seen in
my life. You just yipping. You have to yip some

(17:06):
of these little tap ends you were.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
You were right, but I still beat you.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
You can't beat me down.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
I beat you back then.

Speaker 5 (17:13):
Look, I'm playing the band I've ever played in my life.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Right now, well, that's not very good. I saw the highlights.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
I came in fifty second.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Wow. Now I'm nervous.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
Damn I beat so. You know in the casino you
could bet on me. I finally beat the odds. You know,
you had Chegs Barkley Company in the top seventy and
the last two years I came in like seventy second.
This year I played the best I ever played. I
want a lot of people money. Brother. I came in
fifty second out of ninety. Now, anytime you want to come,

(17:46):
I'll call NBC. You Dan, Please, come on, come on, Dan,
come on, don't be a coward. You can play with
me to come.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
On all right, Uh, loser has to retire.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
I'll tell you what. No, I've never done. I've never
done a radio show from my house. I'll let you
do your show for a week.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
You know you said that before, and then you were
a coward. You left and went to Vegas.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Well, I go to Vegas every year.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
No, did you invite us to your house in when
we were going out for the Arizona super Bowl?

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Yeah, but I wasn't in town.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
We said we'll still go there, and you go, no,
I'm in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
That's a coward.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
I've been twenty eight straight years to Vegas for the
super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Why would you invite us?

Speaker 5 (18:36):
Well, because I thought if I'm in town.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
But you're never there in town. It was a faux
invitation by you.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Great brother, you got to open up tation. I'll let
you in a Barkley compound. You know, I love your guy.
We can do it one show from it. We can
do it from my tennis court.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
I don't care about your tennis court. Do you got
anything else there?

Speaker 5 (18:57):
I got a guest house, a pudd and Uh. I
got some bunkers and pudding green.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
Apparently I got a nice house. I just saw it
on the internet the other day.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Well, you're making twenty million dollars a year, you should.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
Be well, I'm blessed. Hey, hey Dan, I well, hey,
I was until.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
You got one more year making twenty million.

Speaker 5 (19:27):
Hey, twenty one million, Dan million, don't cheat me out
of a million.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Dude, you could get thirty million dollars a year. Well,
you could get thirty million.

Speaker 5 (19:39):
Well, I look forward to hearing those offers. I'm just
going to enjoy my last year turner because it's amazing. Hey, listen,
money will not be the if if if if I
keep working, money will not be the decide. In fact,
the work schedule will be.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Well, that's where you dictate what you want to do.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
That's why I say that. That's why I keep my
options open with all three networks.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Rob, I don't know why we're yelling at each other.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
We're not yelling each other. We're having a good conversation.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Merited conversation. Yes, thanks again for joining us.

Speaker 5 (20:15):
Now, thanks for having me, Dan, You're the best. Tell
everybody I said hello, everybody, have a great weekend.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Thank you, buddy. That's Charles Barkley. Let me take a
break back after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best
sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our
shows at foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app.
Search FSR to listen live.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 8 (20:44):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Yeah, you blubber lit laming me.

Speaker 7 (20:58):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years. Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show,
and we want you to be a part of it.
We're gonna be talking sports, of course, but we're also
going to talk life and relationships. And if Rich and
I are arguing about something or we didn't have enough time,
it will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure

(21:19):
you check out over Promise and also Uncensored, by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.

Speaker 8 (21:26):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us listen over promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
A lot of Olympic actions already started. We had rugby,
we have soccer, but we got three weeks here and
looking forward to it. All right, we'll get to some
phone calls here. My thanks again to Charles. We're trying
to be polite because I knew that he didn't want
to talk about this until it was final, final, and

(22:00):
then when he put out a statement and I said
to Todd, now's the time. Just ask him if he
wants to come on, expound a little bit on what
he was talking about, and they got one more year.
I did appreciate him pausing when I said, would you
leave and go someplace without Shaq and Kenny because Ernie

(22:24):
is staying. Ernie has said that he is staying and
at TNT, but Jack, Ernie, Kenny, Charles, we get one
more year. Certainly feels like Charles is in the listening
mode for other networks, and rightfully so. But it comes
down to quality of life. You got money, and you

(22:47):
don't want to have Charles be overexposed. He doesn't want
to be overexposed. You don't want to be going on
every radio show. I mean, that's why it's tricky. People
think I have like a grudge against ESPN, and I
tell you know analysts or you know, potential analysts not
to go there. I just tell them, what is the
reality of that? If you go to ESPN, be prepared

(23:10):
to do this. And I've talked to Charles years ago
when he was thinking about going to ESPN, Steve Young,
Steve Young was talking about he did go to ESPN.
Jason Kelsey, I just said, be ready because you know,
unless you get it in your contract, the language that's
in your contract. ESPN has a lot of different outlets,

(23:32):
a lot of different entities, a lot of different shows.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Hey can you do.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Pardon the interruption, Can you do this radio show? Can
you be on with Scott ben peld at night? The
NBA Show? Hey, we'd love to have you stop by
for you know, college game day. Can you go on
the road We're going to be at Auburn. Will you
go with Like this is how it works. You know
McAfee signs up for this, steven A signs up for this,

(23:57):
and look they're getting paid at large amount of money.
But they're asked to do an awful lot for the network,
and if you look at what they do the audience
that they bring in, then they're worth that money, and
so is Charles. But if Charles just wants to do
a basketball show, a few basketball shows, Amazon would probably

(24:19):
be the place to go because the other ones are
going to go, hey, we need you, We're going to
pay you this, we want you to be the face
of our network. And that's the tricky part. ESPN is
its own animal. Like that's you're in a machine. We
call it the car wash for a reason. You go
in there in the morning and you're going to do
the morning show. You're going to do Get Up, You're

(24:40):
going to do first Take. Maybe you do an afternoon
Sports Center hit. Then you don't do anything until later
in the evening you do the NBA show. Maybe you
stay and you do Scott Vampelt. That's how it works.
Charles does not want to sign up for that, not
at sixty one years of age, but the other networks.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
With Amazon, I don't know what NBC is going to
ask him to do. That might be one I know
he had.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
He flirted with NBC a long time ago, but I
don't want to talk too much out of school, but
you know, there have been a lot of conversations over
the years with Charles.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Yes, Martin, how would you.

Speaker 9 (25:20):
Feature Charles if you were an executive at another network
to make sure it wasn't like trying to be a
rip off of inside the NBA.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Anybody who hires Charles, they're going to try to capture that.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
You're not gonna have it.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
It just not because Ernie is the most underrated person
in this business because he makes it look really easy
and it's not. He's got to navigate that your landing
planes constantly. You got to make sure Shack just said something,
Charles once say something. Kenny's got to get in there.
Kenny's going to the big board. Shack just did something. Goofy,

(25:57):
you know, throw the rundown out the window like it's
you've got to maintain. It's like a duck. You're just
paddling for dear life. But on the surface it's like, wow,
looks like it's really a smooth sailing there.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
It's not.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
It's not that easy. Those are huge personalities there. But
if you're going to bring in Charles, you're going to
try to capture that with Charles. I mean, he's going
to make you better. It just won't be the same.
It can't be the same because you know, even Kenny,
Kenny had to be sort of the all right, let
me bring this back to reality and talk basketball, because

(26:36):
Charles and Shaq could be back and forth talking about something,
maybe in their own language, goofing with each other. Ernie's
trying to intercept it. Kenny's got to be there.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
But it worked.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Sometimes it just works and you don't think about it.
It's when you think about it and you try to
emulate it, it never works. And hopefully you're able to
keep them together, at least Shack and Charles together, you're
not gonna have earning And then, to me and believe.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Me, that is a big loss.

Speaker 6 (27:03):
Yeah, it's Amazon is in a tricky spot too, because
you know, when they bought the rights to some football games,
they weren't replacing necessarily a beloved show and then putting
on their own and their their football broadcast was I'm
it took a little bit to get it right. You know,
it didn't start out exactly perfect. But now with the NBA,

(27:27):
they're replacing a beloved show across all Sports, you know
what I mean, Like everybody loves that group and now
you're going to have to replace that with something. And
so far Amazon, like I said that, they've it's been bumpy.
They've shown that they can do it, but it's not
necessarily always great when they do.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
And sometimes you go in a different direction because and look,
I hosted the pregame show on ESPN, and I remember
that they had a lot of different people there and
that's when I said, you know, I want to have
Mark Jackson and I want to have Michael Wilbon. I
wanted Wilbon because he'd go in the locker room. I
could get some quotes, some information there. And they did

(28:08):
not want to hire Mark Jackson because they had used
him on Sports Center a couple of times. And they're like, yeah,
we just don't see it. And I said, well, I'm
and David Stern, the commissioner, came to me and he said,
I want you to host the NBA and I said,
I got to have Mark Jackson. He goes, well, you
got Mark Jackson. I said, I'd like to have Michael Wilbon,
a true NBA reporter. He goes, all right, he said, okay,

(28:33):
David Stern called up management at the Mothership. Next thing,
you know, I got Mark Jackson and Michael Wilbon and
Wilbon still doing that show, and Mark did a great
job and then went on to, you know, do the
color commentating on all those NBA playoff games. But it's tricky,
you know, ESPN's still trying to recreate Sports Center. That

(28:55):
ain't gonna happen. Gone done, Pardon the interruption, won't be
the same around the horn. They're gonna get rid of
TNT inside the NBA. I mean, these shows have a
shelf life, and we got one more year with those guys, Yes, Marv.

Speaker 10 (29:12):
What about somebody like Adam Lefko. I love Lefko.

Speaker 9 (29:15):
He's one of those guys that seems like kind of
in that same Ernie realm where he can kind of
galvanize everybody and at least land a plane like kind
of control organized chaos.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Yeah, I think left Go's talented.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
I mean, there's a lot of people that should be
up for that job, but there's only one Charles, and
there's only one Shack out of any of these analysts,
any of these personalities. There's only a few of these
people who move the needle. Now McAfee moves the needle,
steven A moves the needle, Dick by twel in his

(29:50):
prime moving the needle, Chris Berman moving the needle. There's
only a few of them where you go. I'm tuning
in for that person, doesn't matter what game they're doing.
And we tuned into TNT, not for the game. I
tuned in for the pregame or halftime.

Speaker 10 (30:08):
Charles will tell you they're not watching the game.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yes, Charles, be that this sucks. I don't want to
watch this, but you would watch them college game Day.
I may not watch the game, but I watch College
Game Day.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Now.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
There's just certain shows.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Then you know, we're fortunate to have them as long
as we have them, and unfortunately TNT is coming to
an end. Let me get a couple of phone calls
in here. Andrew and Washington again, thanks great job by
Fritzie to not pester Charles, but just to be subtle
in saying, when you're willing to talk, we would love
to have you on. So thank you Andrew and Washington.

(30:46):
Hi Andrew, what's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (30:48):
You're new morning?

Speaker 11 (30:49):
Dan and Deniz, thanks for taking my call. Happy Meat Friday. Yes, Friday,
Fritzie coming through with Charles Barkley, that's excellent to get
him on and hear his side of that, and just
there was some sadness in his voice. On the other thing,
Grant Hill, who had a better dunk in a championship
game than Grant Hill in ninety one versus Kansas, and
Ross Tucker having an opposite summer. Then Charles Barkley, I

(31:11):
mean getting the promo, hanging out with Jason Kelsey sitting
in for you for three days. That's all excellent. So
all three great guests today. And on that note, I
do have a quick stat of the day from last night,
if I could have a little music and the Rangers

(31:38):
to one win over the White Sox. Max Scherzer struck
out nine, which puts his career strike ats at three thousand,
four hundred. This moves a future Hall of Famer in
the tenth place all time in career strikeouts. That's your
stat of the day.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards to the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Scott in North Dakota, High Scott, what's on your mind?

Speaker 12 (32:12):
Hey? Good listening and sell the show killer, Hey, two
things for the boat. One, Dan Patrick's boat brought to
you by Traeger. Is that way you have meat Friday forever.
Second the boat, name it Barls, Charclee, raise it thirty
sell it to Charles.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
How good we can thank you, Scott.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
I don't think Charles wants a pontoon boat. You might
want something a little nicer. Sean in California, Hi, Sean.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
Hey Dan.

Speaker 13 (32:48):
Six to one tall glass of water one sixty five.
I'm gonna quickly tie some things that you enjoy together
that leads to your boat, love and sports. I got
married on September eleventh, twenty twenty three. Our wedding picture
is me and a Tony Romo Jersey number nine, my

(33:09):
wife in a Michael Parsons Jersey eleven, and my new
beloved stepdaughter and a Michael Jordan Jersey twenty three. Didn't
want to forget the date Dan. Shortly after I got married,
we retired and bought a thirty foot pontoon boat that

(33:30):
we have parked up here in Tahoe Keys Marina. And
why people tell you it's a hole in the water
you throw your money into. I promise you when you're
with your family or fishing that's.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Worth every dollar.

Speaker 13 (33:42):
So I've got two suggestions for a boat name for you.
My stepdaughter's name is Izzy. We named our boat that
Isy Rider and shout out to her. She walks around
the house since she joined my life, singing stat of
the day every morning before school.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
And the other one in for you.

Speaker 13 (34:02):
For you, I've got Brad and Boise's suggestion is the
Relax but spelled like mclove and spelled it.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
All right, thank you, Sean. Yeah, the last call for
suggestions for the boat. Then I got to got to
name the boat this weekend. All right, we'll come back.
Fritzi also has a rhyme time that he has reminded
me of many times.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Fun for Friday or take a break, And.

Speaker 2 (34:31):

through the Tregger grills.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
