Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Two on this Tuesday, Dan and the Dan Nuts Dan
Patrick Show. Dylan is sitting in Seaton's chair Seatan is
probably heading over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedways. We speak
with the Makeo van. I don't think they'll let him
take some laps with the Makeo van. But he's en
route to Las Vegas and we'll be out there next
week for a couple of shows. He goes to Saint Louis,
(00:26):
then he goes to Denver, then he goes to Vegas
eight seven to seven to three. DP Show email address
Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle the DP Show. I know
we usually have a meet Friday, but we have the
Heartland Steak Company folks coming in, and I thought, why
don't we have a meat Tuesday. They supplied everything, and
I go, all right, we can make that happen. Tomahawks steaks,
(00:49):
Porterhouse Steaks, and loaded baked potatoes.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Oooo.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Has it better than we do?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
No, nobody.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yes, I'm out there overseeing this and just want to
give the stamp of approval for everything going on. Those
Tomahawk steaks look pretty incredible there. Yeah, stealing now they
look great and border houses too. What's your steak order
at a steakhouse or other restaurant. I'm a stripper, a stripper, yeah,
(01:17):
I like a good stripper, New York stripper.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, I try not to do, you know, go crazy
on it. I have done the Wagoo just to try
the Wagoo pretty good. Yeah, yeah, I don't know if
it's ninety dollars great, but I did try it. Yeah, Paulie,
I was with.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
You once when you ordered a Wago. We had to
go to a dinner that we didn't want to go to.
It was a long time ago. I'm not going to
mention the big city down south and it's not Houston,
but it's in Texas. And the waiter comes by, he goes,
we have a bunch of special tonight. We have the salmon,
and we have the crab cakes, and there was a
special Kobe beef steak tonight. It only comes in every
(01:58):
six months. It is ninety five dollars, like that will
be mine.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
I didn't want to go, and I was gonna make
somebody pay. I was like, can I see your one listen?
Or can I can I get one to go, here's
a long time again.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
You ever sat next to someone who ordered a steak
well done?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
M yes, that's top five pet peeves.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah. I told these guys that I was in Orlando.
I went down to my broadcasting school and I go
into a place that has steaks and the bartender came
up and my server and her name was no Emmy.
She introduces herself. I go, I said, man, what's your name?
(02:43):
She goes no Emmy, and I thought she was saying
she was making fun of me, and which would have
been great, but I said, I said, oh, what's your name?
And she goes no Emmy. And I almost said, hey,
I got individual ones, I just don't have one for
the show. And I'd laughed and she said why are
you laughing? I said, well, because your name is no
(03:05):
Emmy and I work on a show and we don't
win any Emmys. And then she goes what show and
I said it's Dan Patrick show? And she goes, are
you Dan Patrick? And I said yes, And then I thought,
now I feel worse. Her name is no Emmy. I
thought she's taken a shot at me. She didn't know
(03:25):
who I was. Now she kind of does, and it
didn't matter, but it was a no Emmy, and I thought,
you know, and guy next to me orders medium rare.
They bring out steak well done, and the guy goes,
(03:46):
this ain't medium rare, and I saw that. I haven't
seen a well done steak like that where it's charred.
But that's I saw this guy and he goes, I
think you gotta go back and get me something there,
No Emmy. Yes, yes, Dylan.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
I think a lot of steak places I think will
either decline to or highly recommend against getting it well done.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah. Well, we went to wolf gangs in the village
years ago, like Tribeca, and that's where they bring out
just slices of meat and then they give you that
thick piece of bacon as well. That's one of the
best meals I ever had. And I've told you about
this steakhouse in midtown Manhattan, Keynes Steakhouse. It's great. My
(04:36):
go to place if I'm going out for steak is
Keen Steakhouse because they have all this presidential memorabilia. The
entire ceiling is full of smoking pipes that this used
to be a place where whether it was Albert Einstein
to presidents to Babe Ruth. They all went in here
and they would be smoking their pipes and they're all
(04:59):
in the ceiling so rose and like a thousand pipes
are in there, and then they have a couple that
are in an individual case. I think somebody stole the
Albert Einstein one and then the Babe Ruth one is
there as well. So and they asked me to sign
a pipe, which I was like, Okay, don't put that
(05:21):
out prominently displayed, because you know people are going to go,
who's that Dan Patrick? Why is he in the special
case there? So he said, put it somewhere way in
the back, in the bathroom or something.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
Yes, dying if we find out that Dave Ruth got
his steak well done, that sort of tarnish his legacy
as a little bit.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yes, I think it would. Right then I'm going to
guess show, hey, Otani does not get a steak well done? No, no,
And he's definitely getting wagged. Did you see the picture
maybe it's video of Otani with his dog at Dodger Stadium.
They're just walking around. It might have been yesterday. He's
out in left field walking with his dog, and I
don't know if he's you know, cleaning out his locker
(06:02):
or getting treatment or but he's got his dog decoy
and they're out there and left left field just walking around.
Now that's a guy who loved baseball. You know, hey, Han,
would you go walk the dog? All right, I'm going
to Dodger Stadium. So he's out there in left field
walking the dog.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Gampo's a great video. They're just taking some left by
the warning track.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, he's got his dog out there.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
There's a guy who can walk into the stadium whenever
he wants. Yes, you know, like he walks up any
time of day.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I'm guessing he has the keys, the key, yes, DoD.
Speaker 7 (06:33):
Does he clean up after his own dog or does
he have like a personal assistant?
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (06:38):
Can't just leave a present at the warning track un
till next season. I think something's got to be doing.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
He could, oh Tani could, like he could kle.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
That's how much.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
We say good morning. Those watching on Peacock, thank you
for downloading the app, and our radio affiliates around the
country as well. Stat of the Day has always brought
you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program.
We'll talk to Chase Daniel. Nobody breaks down tape video
more than he does. You know what, I love red zone?
(07:09):
I do, but I do think it's fools gold because
when you watch red zone, chances are you're seeing somebody
do something really well, right or really bad. But you
know you'll see a quarterback throwing a touchdown or scramble,
maybe a sack. But it's misleading because you can watch.
(07:32):
There's certain times when like Caleb Williams this past week
and they beat the Giants and he wasn't great, but
he was really good in the fourth quarter, like he's
built for the fourth quarter. It feels like but you're
looking at him and you go, man, he had a
great because I'm watching red zone and all of a sudden,
you go, man, that guy had a great game. And
(07:52):
sometimes we don't put in the time to watch an
entire game. Now, if you're a fan of a team,
you're going to do that, but if you're just hey,
I'm watching, yeah, just a national fan, I'm gonna be
watching all a clip here all Sam Darnold looked great there.
Oh it's being a Drake May touchdown pass end of
the first town. I think that's where it gets dangerous
(08:15):
sometimes that I hope the analysts are being true to
their sport and watching games because we know everybody wants
to make a big statement now, right, big statement. I
think Rex Ryan earlier this year said that he would
stay with Justin Fields a year and a half ago,
(08:38):
so last year he would have stayed with Justin Fields
and called him a generational talent. Okay, well he's not
a generational talent. But you know that was Rex saying something.
We tend to say it and then we move on
with it. You have people who have been all in
on Caleb Williams and then they're all out on Caleb
(08:58):
Williams and it feels like it's weak to week with this.
And you're watching these players, you're watching these positions, and
they're just certain quarterbacks, certain players that are just they're good,
like Jordan Love might just be good. He might not
be great. He might not be like Farvin Rodgers, but
(09:20):
you're asking him to be occasionally great. That's what the
Eagles do with Jalen Hurts. Be occasionally great, but make
sure you're good. But if you're bad average, that can
spell you know, doom and gloom here. But you're watching
and everybody has to have a bold statement, proclamation. This
(09:42):
guy's this, this guy is not the you know all
of these things. And I think sometimes when you watch
a game and you're going, man, that guy struggles, but
he comes up with a couple of big plays, Like
Caleb Williams could have easily lost that game. He had
a couple of plays that were terrible, you know, the
game against Cincinnati, but they won those games and in
(10:05):
years past they weren't winning those games. So Caleb Williams
is still a work in progress. Jayden Daniels is a
work in progress. He's got to stay healthy. I mean,
Drake May everybody loves until Drake May has a couple
of bad games and then all of a sudden, you know,
is Drake May an MVP candidate? Like now, what happened
(10:27):
to Josh Allen? Like it happens that quickly. Lamar Jackson's back, Okay,
is he going to be MVP? Lamar Jackson man Matthew
Stafford's best quarterback in the sport until he has a
bad game. And I think that's what's tricky sometimes is
trying to be fair to what you're watching and have
an opinion on somebody that is fair to them. And
(10:49):
I think we love hyperbole, yes, Marvin, with guys.
Speaker 8 (10:53):
Like Jordan loving Kayleb Williams. I think one word that
you want to describe them as is consistent. You want
them to be consistent. If Caleb Williams was consistent, Bears
fans would be happier than man.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Did you see that throw?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
That was unbelievable?
Speaker 4 (11:05):
No one could do that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
That's what worries me though, is he gives you the
glimpses he does. I still think he still plays like
he's at USC and take the easy play. Take the
five yards, it's right there. No, I'm gonna try the fifteen.
I'm gonna throw across my body.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
No.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Hey, I can scramble and I can mix it. No,
but we talk about this almost every week. Cam Ward
is probably gonna set the record for most sack yards
by a rookie quarterback. That's not a good stat to have, yes, Mark.
Speaker 8 (11:44):
And it's so hard for these guys to unlearn what
they've been doing since they were seven years old because
they've always been the best player and it's you know what,
I can make a play and it's always worked. But
now the NFL guess what. Everybody's just as fast, just
as good as you, and you can't get away with
that anymore.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Yeah, and it feels like just in the past four
or five years, there's been no patience. If you look
at Caleb Williams' first twenty six starts, thirty three touchdowns,
ten picks, those are nice low on the interceptions. Josh
Allen's first twenty six starts thirty touchdowns, twenty one picks,
and he was just a fifty six percent passer, But
nobody bailed on him. Everyone's like, let's give him some time.
(12:22):
He's out of Wyoming. Let's let's be a little patient
with Josh Allen as he gets to the game. And
now he's number one. But his first year and a
half was sloppy.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
And remember Carson Wentz he was gonna be an MVP.
He was a sure thing. Now not, you know, barely
a backup quarterback. But it happens so quickly where you go, okay,
it crystallized that guy is this you know, Baker Mayfield
got kicked to the curb. Sam Darnl got kicked to
(12:56):
the curb. Daniel Jones got kicked to the herb. That's
why we want to have an opinion immediately, and it's
a position where it's unfair to them to have an
opinion immediately.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
Yes, Todd, I want to rest to say, is he
the long term answer in Chicago? Is this one the
long term answer? That's a very popular thing talking about consistency.
Bow knicks and the Broncos have been getting booed off
their home field. Forget about the fact that they're eating
too and he took them to the playoffs even though
they got killed by the Bills in the first round.
This team is eight and two and they're getting mercilessly
booed off the field because they're not doing anything consistently offensively,
(13:34):
which is partly Bow's fault, not just drop passes.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah, but it's also Sean Payton. You can't be a
quarterback whisper offensive genius then all of a sudden it's
all on the quarterback. It doesn't work that way. Sean
McVeigh can share in the credit for Matthew Stafford, but
you can't go, oh, that's on the quarterback. That's not
on me. And I do think Caleb Williams is a
franchise quarterback. I do think he has a chance to
(13:59):
be great, but I'll go back to the way he
played at USC. You can get away with that. In
the NFL, you cannot and just think you've been playing
this position, you've been playing this way. That's like Kyler Murray.
Kyler Murray, I don't know if he can change who
he is and his approach and his style. I don't
(14:21):
think he's changed anything. I did see where the two
teams that might be in line for Kyler Murray. These
are the odds. They have odds of where he could go.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Now.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I said the Jets immediately when I knew that he
was getting benched, and I think he might not play
for that franchise. Again, I said the Jets. One other team,
And when I think of this, I think it makes
sense and I think it's really interesting. Marvin, what team
am I talking about?
Speaker 9 (14:57):
The Miami Dolphins, No, Paul, that's gonna be my guess.
The Raiders, yep, I think the Raiders. You get Ashton
Genty brought Bowers Kyler. Tom Brady is his owner helping
him a little bit.
Speaker 10 (15:17):
There.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
You don't sound sold on No, I'm trying to sell
myself on it. I'm trying to say because there's going
to be the comeback of Kyler Murray, and and and
and me, of all people, I'm leading the charge on
Kyler Murray the comeback. Yes, Dylan, that's definitely not gonna
happen on the Jets, though it might not like I
wouldn't wish that on anybody. No, it's like when I
(15:39):
saw the odds of who's going to go, you know,
first quarterback taken and uh who was at ty Simpson Alabama?
And then I go, Okay, I mean I do think
he's a pro quarterback. I think people watch the Florida
State game and they're like, I don't know, and I'm like, man,
that guy ran for his life. He's really good. Fernando Mendoza, Uh,
(16:05):
enjoy Indiana because if you end up with the Jets,
it's like, now you better be great every single game. Yes, Marv, but.
Speaker 8 (16:14):
I'm sure every single quarterback that's been drafted to the
Jets they've thought the same thing. I'll be an icon
if I can turn this thing around with the Jets,
who have been a doormat my entire life at least.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
Yeah, it's not easy, yes, Ton, and someone who's had
a history of not answering questions which you personally had
the experience of in the New York media. I'd love
to see how that works.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Like Kyler Murray with the Jets, Uh Vegas, Vegas would
make more sense? Yeah, make more sense. Maybe they'refore all right,
We'll talk to Chase Daniel. Get to your phone. Calls
coming up. We're back after this in The Dan Patrick Show.

Oh, there's maction coming up tonight. It'll be Ohio and
Western Michigan kicking off at eight eastern on ESPN two.
First place is on the line in the mac Chase
Daniel ESPN NFL college football analyst will be on the
call tonight. Are you feeling it? Are you feeling maction tonight?
Speaker 4 (17:48):
I'm feeling it.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Man.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I'm in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Speaker 10 (17:51):
I landed at two am at an airport I didn't
even know they had and got about six hours of
sleep already starting prepping.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Man, maction is.
Speaker 10 (17:59):
It's awesome because it's great for the conference, it's great
for everyone. It's great for the players to get on
national television. So we'll be on E two and we're
excited to get going.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Man, did you get recruited by MAC schools?
Speaker 4 (18:11):
I did. I got recruited by Max Schools.
Speaker 10 (18:13):
But you know, there were some other options where I
didn't have to travel as far north from Texas, and
we got it like a logjam up here at the
top of the conference. Ohio, Miami, Buffalo's really good, Western Michigan.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
The winner will be in the driver's seat for sure.
Whoever wins tonight.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
I'm curious how you would assess last night's game that
there was great defense. But if I'm going to look
at Jordan Love, and we've seen them have a couple
of the worst losses. You lose at home to Carolina
and you lost to the Cleveland Browns. And I don't
know if we keep thinking, Okay, he's the next, you know,
following line with Aaron and and Bratt fire, where he
(18:55):
might not be a great quarterback, he might be a
good quarterback and potentially a very good quarterback. What do
you see with Jordan Love that's missing here in these
three losses where they're not even getting twenty points.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Yeah, it's brutal.
Speaker 10 (19:10):
And that's the thing, right, it's the losses and how
they lose because you score two touchdowns and their losses
and they're winning these games. And I think that's sort
of been the issue. Was Jordan Love, I think is
a really good quarterback. Do I think he has the
ability to be a great quarterback someday? Absolutely everyone thinks
that because we've seen short spurts of consistent play.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Now when stuff.
Speaker 10 (19:35):
Isn't right and the run game isn't working for them
and they're without Jaden Reed, they've been without Tucker Craft
for a few weeks. I think that's where he struggles
and that's where he struggles consistently making plays. Now, last
night it was freezing cold, it was a tundrad. It
was such like a Green Bay Packers game, and I
just thought for sure they were gonna pull it off.
(19:56):
And every time they had a chance to it was
offensive penlity, misdrop, another penalty, and it just they could
never get in front of the sticks. And I think
that's sort of the issue that maybe some Green Bay
Packers fans are wondering, and some other fans he's like,
when is he gonna take that next step because a
couple of years ago before he was hurt. Last year
he was hurt, like most of the year was hurt,
(20:18):
and I don't really judge quarterbacks when they're hurt.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
I mean, look, he played alright, they didn't play great.
Speaker 10 (20:21):
But two years ago, I think they started three and
three and they relled off six or seven in a row,
and everyone's like, oh my gosh, he's.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
Making the jump, like he's making the jump.
Speaker 10 (20:30):
And then it's just the inconsistent level of play because
you know, I don't know if he's a guy Dan
that can elevate your team without ten other guys around
him playing well, like I do think ten other guys
around him have to play well, and then in cases
that they do, it's elevated. The play calling is weird
(20:52):
with mattl Floyd. It's like, when I'm watching the game,
I'm like, can you take a shot down the field?
Can you throw the ball more than five yards? And
so they want to play this ball control offensive only
had ten possessions last night and only scored seven points.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
It is brutal.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Help me understand the fourth and sixth call by Nick
Sirianni at the end of the game.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
Yeah, I mean, dude, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (21:13):
I was listening to Detroit, who called the game, and
I'm like, how would I handle that in an analyst role?
And I would say the same thing. I'm like, I
have just I have no answer for it whatsoever. And
then and then the play call too, it's just like, oh,
let's throw a jump ball to a J.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Brown.
Speaker 10 (21:29):
I'm like, when he hasn't been involved all game long,
go to DeVante Smith do a little slant.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Route in between the field. Like, but yeah, I don't.
I don't quite get that.
Speaker 10 (21:39):
Sometimes and for for for whatever reason, Nick Sirianni, we
saw it a couple of times last year, these end
of game management situations where you're paid the big bucks
to be the head coach, you're you're not involved offensively
calling the players, you're not involved defensively calling the place.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
At times that has sort of been his Achilles hill,
and you saw it last night.
Speaker 10 (21:59):
They're just lucky they got out of because when McManus
is lining up for a sixty four yard field goal,
I'm like, oh, dude, it's going to go to overtime
and then and then every talk show we'll be talking
about this. Nick Sirianni'd be like, hey, and so it
sort of is slit underneath right, winning cures all.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
But it's one of those decisions where I'm sure he
wants back.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
But the result shouldn't change our opinion on this. That
they did win. I'm looking at it going, you're lucky
you won because now you brought a field goal into play,
and had they gotten a little bit closer, then maybe
you're going to overtime in Green Bay and you have
this game. I just didn't understand the call. I get, Yeah,
it's like.
Speaker 10 (22:37):
Hey, I mean punt punnett well like or take a
field goal? Yeah, the field goal was I mean just
I think he was playing weather okay, and so he's
in that sort of because remember when you wherever the
ball sat eight yards back from the line, it gives
them even closer. So I can understand not the field
goal there, but pooch Punnett, like get it down to
(22:58):
the ten the way the Packer's offensive been playing. I
think you're good.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
We're talking to Chase Danielbe on the call tonight. It's
Max in Ohio, Western Michigan. And how is Kalamazoo? What's
weather like in Kalamazoo period?
Speaker 10 (23:12):
I just I just went downstairs for like a late
breakfast because I was doing some prep and I went outside,
and like, I live in San Diego, right, so it's
like seventy two and.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
Sonny every single day. My wife was like, oh, you
need to bring a jacket.
Speaker 10 (23:24):
I was trying to get out the door, and dude,
it's like twenty five degrees and snow on the ground.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
So we're gonna have a mation game tonight.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Man, thirty seven degrees at kickoff. By the way, there
you go warm up a little bit. Yeah, yeah, help
me under help me understand the Okay. Brian Dable gets
fired and I'm curious. It's like he's getting blamed for
Jackson Dart putting himself in harm's way. How does I
want to be fair to the situation here, because it
(23:53):
feels like Jackson Dart is going to play the way
Jackson Dart wants to play. But is what role does
Brian Dable play in Jackson Dart getting banged up?
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (24:04):
Look, the narrative around that just it honestly makes me
upset and just mad and pissed off because I'm like,
at the end of the day, when you're playing football
as a quarterback, you have to protect yourself. I understand
these cold runs. We can't put it on Brian Dave
all that. Jackson Dart, you know, has been checked for
four concussions this year, had one, and I get it,
(24:26):
Like that's who Jackson Dart is and will be in
the NFL until he's old and he can't run anymore
and he's got to become a pocket passer. That's what
makes Jackson Dart special. If you go back to his
old mis days, that's what makes him special. My one
thing about Jackson Dart, and this showed his ugly head
the old mis days, is he doesn't slide like he
doesn't know when contact is close, even in the pocket,
(24:49):
and he can't have that feel you look at like
Lamar Jackson, completely different runner. I know that, but his
pocket awareness in his fiel where he never ever gets
hit straight on.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
It's the complete opposite with Jackson Dart.
Speaker 10 (25:00):
So at the end of the day, as a quarterback,
like the best ability is availability, everyone said that, but
if you can't stay on the field for your team,
because look, I don't date Brian Dave all gets fired
if the Giants end up pulling that one off. Like
that's when the whole game changed, was when Jackson Dart
went out. Because so it's not only it's not only
like what he does on the field, but his leadership
(25:21):
and ability and everything about that. And look, it's just
Brian da ball. I thought he was going to make
it to the end of the year, but the multiple
blown double digit leads just too much.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
I guess I mentioned this a little while ago, that
we get caught up on red zone and how good
somebody is because you saw them on red zone. When
you watch Caleb Williams the whole game. He didn't necessarily
play a great game, but he did have great moments,
and I think it fools a lot of people that
they go, man, Caleb Williams had a great game. When
(25:54):
he misses some easy throws, he still he gets you know,
turns his back to the defense and he's trying to
or yeah, defense, he's trying to make a play again.
And so how do you assess Caleb Williams to where
he is now to where he was, let's say a
year ago.
Speaker 10 (26:10):
You sound exactly opposite of all my Twitter fans, because
I cover Caleb Williams extensively, and everyone off. I tweeted out, like,
can Caleb Williams just make a play?
Speaker 4 (26:20):
And then everyone for well, he's had six drops, Well
the offensive line has done that.
Speaker 10 (26:25):
And and I'm I'm with you when I when I
watched the game and the breakdowns out on the YouTube
channel right now, I literally just did it.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
It's like twenty minutes long.
Speaker 10 (26:33):
Because there were some throws that without a trained eye
you would say are a little bit off, and those
drops can become catches if the.
Speaker 4 (26:42):
Ball is just a little bit closer to the receiver.
Speaker 10 (26:45):
Now I will say, though, Dan, like there's something about
him in this clutch Gene four fourth quarter come from
behind wins, and it's it's almost like Caleb Williams when
you watch this offense, it's almost like he's not the
main piece, right And that's sort of sort of weird
to say, but if you look at his numbers, if
you look at the game until the fourth quarter, and
(27:06):
then and when it comes to the fourth quarter and
sometimes the start of the game, there's always that little
lull in the middle of the game for Caleb Williams,
I will say, compared to this year from last year,
getting back finally answering your question, sorry about that. I
have seen a lot of growth in him as a quarterback,
meaning like I don't know if he was as good
(27:27):
under center play action Ben Johnson type style stuff as
he is this year. He's understanding timing, he's understanding rhythm.
He's never been a guy that throws a lot of interceptions.
But the one thing that I will think and say
that my roufle little feathers, Like you know how much
money the Chicago Bears offensive line put into their interior
(27:48):
three this year, a lot of money and free agency.
I don't think they've played well at all, and I
think that's affected Caleb Williams play because he's getting back
there one, two, three at the top of his drop
and he's having to move early, and he's doing this
Houdini stuff because he's literally unsackable. But I think that
plays into it as well, along with the drops. I
(28:09):
just want to see better consistency, more consistent play early
in the game, throughout the whole game.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
What's going on with bow next in the Denver offense, Yeah.
Speaker 10 (28:21):
Look like Sean Payton's my guy, and I know just
about everyone on that offensive staff, and when I watch games,
I'm just seeing a wildly inconsistent quarterback in the first
three quarters. I mean, that's just what it is, and
it's it's starts from the ground up right, Dan like
accuracy at any level of play, whether I'm coaching my
(28:42):
flag football team and my son's playing quarterback he's eight,
or if I'm coaching bo Nicks at the pro level,
at the highest you can't be accurate.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
If you got happy feet back there, and you can't.
Speaker 10 (28:53):
Be accurate and run the offense unless your feet are
stuck in the ground, you're stepping to your target and
you're throwing. I think he's gotten to a point where
he is not seeing it as well as maybe we
thought he was. And then so he's been really inaccurate
because he doesn't trust what he sees, and that whole
offense does that trust what they see and look, even
(29:14):
Sean Payton Day's in New Orleans, we would go through
stretches like this where it's up and it's down, and
it's really down and it's really down and you're just
like trying and they're still winning games. My thing is like,
I would have loved for them to go get a
receiver at the trade deadline.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
They obviously didn't do that.
Speaker 10 (29:32):
I don't know if they have enough explosiveness outside to
be really good, but the way their defense is playing,
I think they'll be all right. And it's gonna be
interesting to see how this last season of the stretch
for them plays out.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
What if I said Drake may is the best quarterback
in the AFC, you.
Speaker 10 (29:53):
Would say, well, Patrick Mahomes, because the big three, the
big four, right Mahomes, Burrow, Allen Jackson, that they haven't
been you know, Burrow's gone.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
But playing quarterback, I was playing the best quarterback.
Speaker 10 (30:10):
In the APTI it's but in my opinion right now,
it's between Mahomes and Drake May, and I would probably
I'd probably give you the nod to Drake May. Like
the reason why I say Mahomes is I know they're
five to four and I know they haven't been good.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
They've been like owned four and one score games.
Speaker 10 (30:27):
Is you just watch what he does on the film, right,
Mahomes and it's it's like twenty twenty one, twenty two
MVP Pat Mahomes. But then you turn on Drake May's
film and the amount of growth from last year to
this year with a new head coach, with a new
play caller, with a new coordinator with with really you know,
(30:48):
people on that offense other than Diggs, people don't know
who they are, Like I can't tell you a lot
of people can't tell you around the nation, like the
number two receiver or their running back Stevenson that they
had that that was on the bench that couldn't play
because he didn't know the offense. And he's doing more
with less. It's sort of like the Josh Allen thing
of last year where people were like, oh, well.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Josh Allen, he's MVP. Look at how much he's doing
with less.
Speaker 10 (31:11):
And I just like the way Drake May's playing right
now because he's really confident.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
He's got this innate ability to.
Speaker 10 (31:17):
Move in the pocket away from pressure but keep his
eyes down the field, which is really difficult to do
for second year quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
And they're taking shots down the field.
Speaker 10 (31:25):
And I said this on our Scoot City podcast yesterday,
and I don't want to, you know, I don't want
to like say anything wrong. But when I watched when
I watched the film of Drake mayn, I watched the
New England Patriots, how they operate on offense, how different
in personnel groupings they are, their shifts and their motions,
their play calls, the way he's real it reminds me
(31:47):
a lot of those twelve days back in New England.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
And I'm not.
Speaker 10 (31:50):
Saying necessarily he's gonna be listen, no, but listen, I'm
not saying he's twelve. I'm not saying he's brady. But
the way the offense is operating right now in terms
of how they're getting in and out of plays, the
shifts in the motions, and I know I get that
laugh out of you because I'm not I just want
to make sure I'm not saying that. Just the way
(32:11):
the offense is on the field, it does look like
the Tom Brady days in terms of how they're deploying
offensively to attack defenses.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Is Matthew Stafford doing anything different than he did when
he was in Detroit?
Speaker 10 (32:28):
Well, well, he's surrounded by a lot better players because
I was with him for that one year in Detroit,
and I just think Sean McVay has brought out the
absolute best of them. I mean, like, if the season
ended today, he would be my MVP. Twenty five touchdowns,
two interceptions, thirteen touchdowns, no picks. In the last three games,
He's averaging like two hundred and fifty passing yards a game. Now,
(32:50):
he has a cast of characters that I would put
up against anyone, right, DeVante Adams, Puking Nakua, Karon Williams,
all those guys. And I think what Matthew is has
been able to do in LA is great. Like it
just seems crazy, Dan that they were about to get
rid of Matthew Stafford over forty million dollars, Like it
just seems like such a bargain. Remember that whole thing
(33:13):
last this year, Like, oh, well, Stafford's going to go
to the Patriots Safford's going to go to this, Stafford's
going to go to that, and everything just seems wow.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
And I think they're just such a great great match.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Have fun tonight. I'll be watching with actually with a
critical eye of you. Please, okay, I need it.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
I feel like I've gotten better.
Speaker 10 (33:33):
I feel like I haven't talked as much because of you,
So I've just sort of laid out. Let the maction
environment speak for itself. So I appreciate the help.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Be stealth, though, be smart when you jump in and
you know that you have a finite amount of time.
But see something, say something, get out. See something, say something,
get out, and if you somehow it can give us
a little nugget that we don't see because you're you're
football fans educated. But when you say watch this, when
(34:05):
I see this, it means this little things. You played
the position, and you know when you get inside that
quarterback's mind, it's like Romo said on Sunday, when I've
figured you out a defense, they've figured you out. And
then there was a touchdown pass soon after that, like
(34:25):
it was really something very simple, but he said, I've
figured out the defense. They've figured out the defense. And
then you had a touchdown pass. So when you give
us those little nuggets that that's what makes you stand out.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
I love it. Make the words count, don't count your words.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Absolutely, thank you, buddy. That's Chase Daniel. He works for
the Mothership. Also, you'll love the Chase Daniel Show on YouTube.
He'll break down Caleb Williams, Stafford Drake May, Josh Allen,
bo Nix and also part of the athletics Goop City
podcast with Diana Racini. We'll take a break. Phone calls
(35:04):
coming up. Reggie Miller next hour. We're back after this.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live Reggie Miller in about thirty minutes. Kate Cunningham
took forty five shots last night. He missed thirty one shots.
(35:30):
That's the most by any player since nineteen sixty seven
when Rick Barry went seventeen for fifty in a game.
Instead of the day, sat of the day, up stead
of the day, stat of the day, he comes here.
It comes that what stead of the day. We'll talk
(35:52):
to Reggie about that. And it takes a lot of
energy to put up forty five shots U. Every Tuesday,
all customers get a shot at a share of one
million dollars in bonus bets. Place your daily NBA profit
boost token on a prop bet, and if the player
leads in points and rebounds and assists combine, they are
(36:13):
deemed the King of the Court. You win a share
one million dollars paid out in bonus bets. So here
we have the King of the Court, Tyres Maxey over
twenty eight and a half against Celtics tonight, Reggie's doing
Celtic sixers, Michael Porter Junior the third over six and
a half rebounds versus the Raptors.
Speaker 8 (36:31):
R J.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Barrett over nineteen and a half points against the Nets,
Lowry Mark and then over six and a half rebounds
against Pacers, and Steph Curry over twenty three and a
half points against Oka c.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
Dylan Well, Dan, I want to propose what I did
last week, which is we all pick someone different and
then pool our free bet winnings. If one of us wins, okay,
the if the group would so you four yes, that's
four okay?
Speaker 2 (37:03):
You put in five bucks.
Speaker 6 (37:04):
Five bucks on any of these props.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
All right, why don't you start?
Speaker 1 (37:08):
All right? I?
Speaker 6 (37:09):
Uh, since I already actually placed it, Dan, I'm going
with r. J. Barrett over nineteen and a half points.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Okay, Marvin, how about you?
Speaker 8 (37:17):
I'm gonna go with Lowie Marketing over six and a
half rebounds against the Pacers.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Okay, he's averaging six rebounds on the season and twenty
seven points.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Paulie, I'm gonna go RJ Barrett over nineteen and a half.
The Nets had the second worst defense in all of basketball.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Is he allowed to pick some or does he have
to pick somebody else?
Speaker 6 (37:38):
He can, but that's sort of decreasing the spread of
our potential.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Yeah, you know, I'm not a fan of Michael Porter
Junior's game, so I'll take the under six and a
half rebounds versus the rep.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
Yeah, you're more of a Johnt Porter fan. You like
his brother off CORDICCT he delivers Todd How about you?
Speaker 7 (37:57):
I got Tyrese Maxey with a little less than the
twenty eight and a half under on Tyree.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Okay, that's king of the court. You want to share
one million dollars and if your prop bet on a player,
you get points and rebounds and assists combined, and then
you're the king of the court. It's DraftKings and you
can do it every Tuesday. All right, A couple of
phone calls in here and coming up top of the hour,
(38:21):
we have a game to play on. Who's getting fired?
Not on the show? Not on the show. Let me
see Andrew and Washington. Hi Andrew, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (38:35):
Good morning, Dan Dennis. Thanks for taking my call. I
do think there should be some last show turning out
the lights in the man cave, even if it's produced
beforehand and is shown at the end of your last
Super Bowl week's show. Just a thought. But hey, I
got some things on the Eagles. They're defending Super Bowl champions,
but they have the ten worst offense in the league.
(38:56):
What's going to happen with them as the season goes along?
Is that going to be good enough for the playoffs?
Is it going to improve? So if you look at
here's a stat.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
If you look at the.
Speaker 5 (39:04):
Twenty lowest passing games Jalen Hurst has had in his
career in a game for a win, five of them.
Five of the twenty have come in five wins this season.
That's really low, and so I'm just wondering, like Ken
Dick sustain this, and I don't see really any injuries
that are going on. It's just not messing. Say Korn
Barkley only has one game over one hundred yard rushing.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Yeah, you know, the offense hasn't been fluid. AJ Brown
hasn't been thrilled with his usage. They do have. When
you look at the talent tight end, two receivers, and
you have your running back quarterback, they're on par You know,
maybe the Rams you would take their two receivers tight
ends that they have, they're running back and of course
(39:46):
Matthew Stafford. It's just Jalen Hurts is great in big games.
He's not a regular season quarterback where you go weekend
and week out he's going to put up incredible numbers.
I mean, even last night he's average. It's we've seen
him on the big stage. All I know is he's
played in two Super Bowls and he was great in
both of those Super Bowls. And you know, maybe that's
(40:09):
not fair or I'm I'm not you know, factoring in
he's a good ish regular season quarterback. I just know
he's been great in the postseason. So I factor that
in if the Eagles get there, I feel like I
can count on him. And it feels like Saquon Barkley
got them during the regular season. Their defense got them
(40:30):
through the regular season. You just ask him to compliment
sprinkle in a couple of highlights. There more phone calls
coming up final hour of the program, the Who's getting fired?
Can you explain the rules for who's getting fired?
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Poul Yeah, I'm gonna you gotta play fill in the blank?
Someone of note is getting fired in seven minutes according
to a big report.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Oh yeah, okay. Oh, then maybe we should have played
Who's getting fired prior to Who's getting a minute left?
Or who got fired? We could do it quickly. Yeah,
I only got twenty six seconds, man, Yeah, and that
person has six minutes? Yeah. Do they know they're getting fired.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
At this juncture?
Speaker 2 (41:11):
If they are? Okay? All right, Hey, let me go
through social media. Hey, uh, I'm getting fired here? All right,
Reggial Jonas. More phone calls as well, Just Meet Tuesday
Meet courtesy of Heartland Steak. Fritzy's here, Dylan's here, Marvin
Paulie yours truly We're back after this final hour
