Good home to the biggest guests and best sports talk
on radio. I love it one of my favorite normally,
Oh the Dan Patrick.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Hope you'll miss us.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Watson Today, Dan and the dannts are off.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Don't see another radio show behind my back and filling in.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
It's Jonas Knox, Brady Quinn and LeVar eringsat There we Go.
It's good broadcasting from the Mercedes Man Cave. This is
the Dan Patrick Trick Show.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
It's the Dan Patrick Show here Fox Sports Radio. He's
LeVar Arrington. I'm Jonas Knox in for Dan and the
guys here on this Friday after Thanksgiving, this Black Friday edition,
which is appropriate for us. We fill in occasionally here
on The Dan Patrick Show, but when LeVar and I
are doing our normal routine. We are on two pros
(01:28):
and a cup of Joe alongside Brady Quinn Monday through Friday,
six am Eastern time, three o'clock Pacific. Now, when Brady
Quinn is not in, you can't call it two pros
and a cup of joe. So we like to play
it safe and we call it black and Drack, Black
and drack because I look like Dracula.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
And I look like I'm black, track and black.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
That is correct. So we are often running I all.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Black, y'all. By the way, I mean, whether Jonas is
a Dracula a vampire, I don't. I don't know, but
I am a black man, by the way. I don't
just I don't just look black.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
I'm pretty pale, Like I'm pretty.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Uh, you are pretty. You are pretty Dracula pale.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, you are that that dog hunts. Now you may
mention you made mention of this. Check of text. You
made mention of this. The uh Micah Parsons era in
Green Bay. It has been pretty quiet, but it's been
really effective and just sort of flying under the radar.
(02:39):
He's had a really good year and it's like gotten,
not gotten a lot of buzz. I think people maybe
saw the start of the season and said, well, you know,
he's off to a bit of a slow start, but
if you actually looked at his numbers with the Cowboys
early on in seasons, he gets off to a slow start.
But here we are again. He's got another dozen sax season.
(02:59):
There's six games left to go in the season, and
all of a sudden, what they traded him for has
now played out in form and it did yesterday as
they take care of business and beat the Detroit Lions.
He's looked good man.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
He's a difference maker for them, but he would be
a difference maker for everyone. I know that. Again, the
conversations have continued. Are the Dallas Cowboys a better team?
That's been a debate without Michael Parsons? Are the Green
Bay Packers a better team with Michael Parsons? And again,
(03:38):
I don't think that one has to be untrue for
the other one to be true. So so yes, it
does look as though Brian Schottenheimer is doing an amazing
job with what he has in Dallas, and it seems
to be turning in the direction of you know, positive
(03:59):
positive out They're they're winning games, uh and and that's
not coming from a pass rush that's coming from being
able to stop the run and and having a prolific
offense out there on the field. Now for for the
Green Bay Packers, you know, they've been shorthanded on offense,
uh and and the workload has fallen on the shoulders
(04:21):
of certain individuals. And and this past game, you know,
Watson was able to get it going. They were able
to do some really good things on the offensive side
of the ball.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
I feel like Love Love does what he's supposed to do,
and he plays at a high level. And and for
the most part, he protects the ball. He makes good decisions,
decisive decisions. And then they have a run game. They
have a run game. And and so to me, you
look at what Michael Parsons added to that defense, it's
(04:56):
just another it's a dynamic that I mean, you know,
when they had Zadarius and and other guys like Rashaun
Gary by himself is an amazing pass rusher, gets a
ton of pressure on quarterbacks. But you have Michael Parsons.
He's a generational talent. He really is. It's not just
you don't just say that. To say it. Michael Parsons
(05:18):
is a generational talent. He impacts the team and in
profound manner. Uh and and that hasn't changed being in
in green Bay. So now you have a formidable defense,
you have a formidable offense, and and and you have
the balance of it all, all of it from special
teams on. You have that balance with Green Bay so good.
(05:42):
You know, it seems like it worked out for everyone.
Dallas is a better team. They're looking like they can
win the NFC East in fact, and Green Bay is
looking like, you know what they need to look like,
they look like they can win the NFC North. So
there you go.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah, it's it. Just there's been no noise like there's
been and that's probably a breath of fresh air. And
one of the things that Micah Parsons made mention of
is andt I forget who the player was that told
him a Penn State guy who's with the Packers. God,
I'm blanking on his name, but he told Micah Parsons,
(06:24):
when you get to Green Bay, it's going to remind
you of State College. Like it's going to remind you
of It's not Dallas. It's not this big extravagant sort
of circus that Jerry Jones has created. It's going to
feel like where you played college football. And I wonder
if he's gotten there and just been like, dude, I
don't have to deal with any of this crap. I
don't have to worry about who the the owner doing
(06:46):
two interviews a week on local radio. I don't even
know who the owner is, Like, I think it's some
guy that lives down the street that I saw taken
out his trash cans earlier. Like I, he just he
doesn't have to deal with any of that craft. He
can just play ball and you just look at the numbers,
you go, oh yeah, he's like one of the best
in the league again every single year, like one of
the best in the league again, and he came up
(07:06):
big yesterday for him.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
All I'll say is Micah Parsons is such a competitor.
It doesn't matter where he's at. He could play for
the month stars bro in that different planet and he's
still going to bawl the same exact way because that's
just how he's wired. He's going and all it was
taking was for him to get back into gain condition.
(07:31):
That's really what it is. I mean, let's be clear,
he had a tap bit of a slow start, even
though he was still impacting the games. But now you're
starting to see him get into that and it could
be dangerous because it wasn't his clock. His body clock
did not start the same time as everybody else's because
(07:52):
he didn't participate in in training camp. So's his body's
just now starting to get in that space where he's
going to feel good like he's he's got game lungs,
he's got game legs, and you're going to see what
Michael Parsons brings to the table as a Green Bay
(08:14):
Packer is going to continue to be a lot of production.
That's what he does. So when you look at where
he's at right now, could he have made Dallas? If
Dallas is as good as they are right now, I
just think it's irresponsible to say they're better without Michael Parsons.
(08:35):
Though it's not better without Michael Parsons with what they've done,
because if you add Michael Parsons to what they've done,
they're that much better than what they are right now,
if you get what I'm saying. Yeah, so they're really
good right now, but they would be even better than
what they are right now if they had Michael Parsons
on their rosters.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
So Dallas making the moves that they made post Michael
Parsons felt like a guy really trying to win the breakup.
That's what it felt like. It felt like Jerry Jones realized, Wow,
we just traded away a generational talent, a guy who's
on pace to be a Hall of Famer, and we
traded him away so that we could improve our run defense.
Like that's the And anybody who thinks that that was
(09:19):
the wise decision to make is crazy, Like you like,
we can try and you know, manipulate the numbers all
we want, facts or facts. Micah Parsons has proven he's
done it every single year. He's doing to get an
in Green Bay. And the guy's on track to be
a Hall of Famer, and Jerry Jones traded him away
because things got personal when it comes to the negotiations
(09:41):
and and so like all these moves they've made Quinn
Williams and these first round picks and these like they
like they're trading this guy and that guy, like awesome.
But to your point, you wouldn't have had to do
all that had you just gotten the deal done that
everybody assumed you were going to get done, because why
would you let a guy like that walk?
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Like?
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Why would you? And then why would you go on
a podcast with Michael Irvin weeks later and say, well,
I never saw this guy, you know, laying down on
a training table, you know, during a preseason game. Okay,
but you did see that guy pull out a pair
of scissors and stab a guy who was getting his
haircut a teammate, like you did. You did see Charles
Haley expos him Like there's a lot of stuff there, Jerry.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
So let's saying a few things. Yeah, you just ain't
a few.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
It's like, what are we talking about here? So I
just I wonder if Micah Parsons, upon further review, even
though he wants to he wanted to stay in Dallas,
is like, man, good riddance, I could just play.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
I think it's a tremendous point because State College is
the type of place where it is. It's not a
big city. It's in between them, it's in between Philly,
it's in between Pittsburgh. It's its own place. We don't
compete with any other sports. You know, if you're if
you're playing for a team and you know certain places there,
(11:00):
college and they're are pro Like I live in LA
you got USC, you got UCLA. But you also have
all of the pro teams. You got two of each.
You got two NBA teams, you got two NFL teams.
So it's a loaded market and people have a lot
of choices. You go somewhere like where Mica is right now,
all they have is the Green Bay Packers. That's it.
(11:23):
And I'm telling you it's the wildest thing. If you
ever go to a Green Bay Packers game, the wildest
thing is when you pull up to where they're playing,
literally is the neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Like Rashid Walker was the guy, the Penn State player
who told Michael Parsons what you're saying that it feels
like state college, the green Bay State College.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
And I've been there. I played there twice, and I
visited there because I almost got recruited by Brett Fahv
to go there, which by the way, he ended up
not even staying. But anyway, I went there, and it
just it to be honest with you, maybe stay college
(12:07):
might even be a little bit ahead, be a little
bit ahead. We gotta like a little you know what
I mean. But it's just going to be focused in
on getting from from your crib to the practice facility
to doing whatever it is you need to do. The
(12:27):
man is set financially for life. He's stable in his
in his personal life, he handles business in his in
his business life, he's he's clicking on all cylinders. And
I'm happy that he gets an opportunity to just be
respected and admire From a personal standpoint, not from an analyst,
(12:48):
from a personal standpoint, I'm just glad he's in a
situation where he gets to get appreciated and there not
be this constant idea of trying to create this this
real different undercurrent of what the energy and emotion should
be going towards him. I don't know where that came from.
You know, I can ultimately tell you when a guy
(13:10):
gets the type of attention, and I know this from experience,
When a guy gets the type of attention that Michael
Parsons was garnering as a defender in the National Football
League in Dallas and in one of the markets, if
not the hottest market to play NFL football in, there's
(13:32):
going to be a lot of jealousy. There's going to
be people that that kind of maybe, you know, aren't
on his side and want to see him succeed and
do well. That does exist, and so maybe that's what
it was, because I think he got a raw deal
in terms of the way Jerry Jones ultimately tried to
paint the picture of who he was and now where
(13:55):
he's at. Now he doesn't have to deal with as
you mentioned, big big, you know, big market politics. He
just gets to play ball, I mean working on.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
What what is a day in Rebay? Like if you're
if you're a member of the Packers, like what like,
what what is there to do?
Speaker 4 (14:11):
I don't, like, I said to mean, Bro, I was
with Nick Barnett. Nick was still playing when when I
went on my visit and I wanted to play play
ball alongside Nick. I thought he was just a fine
human being and played football the way I played football.
That was super attractive to go play with Nick Barnett.
(14:32):
So I'm hanging out with him. I'm like, all right, bro,
you got fifty six? Like if I come here, what
we're doing? He's like, if you come here, you have it?
Like I was like, oh that's like we was on
some cool stuff. So what do we do? Like what
He's like, what you mean, that's what we're doing, Like
you know what we got? Hell, well we got weights,
(14:53):
we got uh, let's see, we got we got some
film room. Da da da. I was like, yeah, yeah,
I get all. That was like, but what else, Like
what we're getting into? Like da da da, Like we
get out of here, do all of this? Meet with
the coaches? What we're doing, Oh, we're going over to Brett's.
We go to We're go kicking at Brett's place. We
go to Brett Forbes place. Man, ain't nobody in there.
And I'm sitting there. I'm like, I'm like, look at
(15:14):
that Nick, And he's just happy as hell, Like does
it bruh? He's like what you mean? Like and then
he finally caught on like, oh, maybe he avoided it
on purpose, on this because I was on a recruiting trip,
Like maybe because they was trying to get me to
come there. Like he's like, oh, we go to Milwaukee.
(15:35):
You want to go you want to go to Milwaukee,
We can go to Milwaukee. Milwaukee's dope, Da da da,
this that and the other. It's just a little bit
drive da dada. I was like, So this is it
for for where you live? Where we live and what
we got. He's like, yeah, pretty much. You got to
you got the casino, but that's about it. Like dang, all.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Right, well he ain't even got the tousy.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
He ain't even there. Bruh.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Now, No, Hi Andrev.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
I bet you if your radio studio wasn't have to
worry about no parking lot, shenanigans or anything like that.

Oh, it's the Dan Patrick Show here Fox Sports Radio.

(18:02):
better get MAKEO all right? So this is a man
who I think the nerves are a little heightened this weekend.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Yeah, that's a big nervous. It's a big nervous.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Is this the Ohio State fight song? Is this is
this the Ohio? Do we have this? Correct? Is this
the one?
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Abe?
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Is this the one?
Speaker 5 (18:26):
Yeah? Thanks for getting my nerves Okay, nervous?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
I just uh, I mean, Ryan Day's got an interesting approach.
I don't know if you saw the news auber Breer,
but Ryan Daves having the team fly in as opposed
to that.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
Yeah, which I would think, like actually would take longer
because thinking about it, it's like a little under three
hours if you're driving right, like and if you're driving
the KI drive anyway, and so like if you're talking
about like going to the airport boarding and I know
(19:01):
this charger, but like going to the airport boarding getting
off in Detroit, and then it's like still another whatever
twenty five minutes from in Arbor, Like I would think
that would take longer, right, Am I wrong about that?
Speaker 4 (19:16):
I think you're reaching, Ab. I think you're reaching because
you're trying to end your mind justify if it goes wrong.
Why they should have just went to hit and drove
in the buses as opposed to you're going to start
it as the origin of messing up this year's game
was the fact that Ryan Day chose to fly instead
(19:37):
of draft.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
So that's what this out logistically. I'm a travel connoissewer.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
So all right, I'm just saying what it sounds like.
AB That's what I'm just. I just want you to say, Well,
I just want you to understand what the listener is
hearing from you right now. That's that's that's all I want.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, I'm just I'm actually just like,
you know, looking at this because I'm kind of like
a I'm I'm like a doctor of travel. Basically, this
based on all the travel I've done. So I just
I like to analyze these things, you know, from a
from a pure facts standpoint. And I'm not sure. I'm
(20:15):
not sure. I'm not sure what will be faster. I
think driving might be faster.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Do you really think so, I mean that's interesting, I
think so.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
Yeah. Well no, it's like two it's two hundred miles, right,
so it's it's it's almost like exactly two hundred miles.
So you figure you can do that in three hours. Okay,
So if you do that in three hours, like it
probably takes you, i don't know, fifteen minutes to get
from fifteen to twenty minutes get from campus to the airport.
Then how long does it take you to board the plane?
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Right? Like probably like forty five to an hour.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
You're probably in the air for it's probably like a
half hour forty five minutes in the air. Right then
you land, you taxi, you d plane, you get on
another bus, Like I think as far as that more
than three hours. Huh.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
How much is how far is the bus from the
hotel from where you're going?
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Well, because because the Detroit airport's like halfway between actual
Detroit Man Arbor, so it's like twenty five minutes.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
It might be quicker, it might be sounds a little quicker.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
It sounds a little quicker to fly. Maybe not that much,
but maybe a little quicker. It's might be it might
be too close to to to like split hairs on.
It is what you're trying to say. So they should
should they drive? So should they have draft? Baby, I
don't mind.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
I don't mind. No, I don't I don't mind. I
don't mind keeping the routine. I think that that was
smart by Ryan to keep the routine. I'm just again
like I'm way too interested in these sorts of questions.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Well, we're going to get your Uh, your your pick
on the game, like we do every single week when
you join us on Fox Sports Radio. But I did
want to ask you, based on what we saw last night,
because look, Joe Burrow gives them a boost, they come back,
Cincinnati wins that game, what's wrong with Baltimore because, like, honestly,
because it just it hasn't looked good really all year
(22:12):
outside of a couple of spots, but Lamar Jackson does
not look like the same.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
Player well, and I think that's sort of what it
comes down to. I think their defense is fine for
the most part, like I and I think like what
you saw last night was one of the best players
in football coming back into the lineup in the second
half of that game really looking like himself, you know,
which you would expect Joe Burrow to be able to,
you know, create generate offense, you know, no matter who's
(22:37):
on the other side. So that was, you know, obviously
part of the equation. But I do think the Baltimore
defense has played pretty well on balance over the course.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Of the year.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
So then you know, like you then then the next
question would be where it's the offense at And like, really,
to me, that offense is alway the same all year,
and you know, I think if we're going back to
when Lamar got hurt, right like, and how that affects them.
(23:06):
Like I thought last night, like for the first time,
it does look like he's start he's starting to get
the juice back in his legs right like where you
can still you can still you know, pull it and
run it the way that he's always been able to.
We started to see that come back, like last night,
I think he saw it. I just wonder, like, you know,
like does this injury. Has this injury had an effect
(23:28):
on his mechanics, because you know, quarterbacks like little things
can screw up, screw up things to the point where
it's like, okay, like maybe it's not the most noticeable
thing in the world, but you can throw your accuracy
off a little bit, you know, or it can make
you It can it can it can cause a little
bit of like a tweak and the way you play
that needs to be fixed when he gets to the offseason.
(23:51):
So you know, Lamar is still a great, great player,
but we're so used to him being you know, in
that group of four quarterbacks with him and Burrow and
Mahomes and Allen and it's just like again, like not
like he's falling off the face of the earth. But
they don't look as dangerous offensively as they have, and
it'll be interesting to see if they can get that together.
Because remember, as you know, up and down as things
(24:14):
have been, they did win five in a row going
into last night's game, and the rest of their schedule
is pretty interesting. They'll play the Steelers twice, they got
to play the Bengals again in two weeks, and so
you know, as strange as it sounds, for two is
coming in last night, three and eight, like the door
(24:36):
is still open for the Bengals to win the AFC North.
They need some help for sure, but like there's a
way for it to happen if they if they sweep
the Ravens, the Ravens are up to seven losses then,
and so the Ravens would only need to lose one
more game, and the Ravens play the Steelers twice. I
believe they got the Lions in there too, where it'd
(24:56):
be like you could easily see them losing one more game,
and if the steel level off like now all of
a sudden, if the Bengals can run the table and
that's a lot to ask, but at the Bengals run
the table now all of a sudden, they can seek
in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
I think you're absolutely correct. In fact, I feel like
that's what I explained to Jonas early on in the show,
by the way, So there you go. I like your
reasoning right there. Ab Let me ask you about another
team that finds themselves in maybe a compromising position right
now based off of what Mike Vrabel has been able
(25:31):
to do in New England. Are the Buffalo Bills Are
they plateauing? Are they hitting a ceiling of sorts in
terms of what we should expect and anticipate from them.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Yeah, there's some interesting questions with them, LeVar, like I
so like, I mean, one is like they do need
to get healthier, right so they won't get Oliver back
until the playoffs, but that's obviously a huge piece for
them to lose, and they're relying on some young guys
like Walker and Sanders to pick up the slack for
(26:03):
them on the interior of the d line, which is
a big deal, right Like, and then not having Dalton
Kincaid that was that was an issue. I mean, the
collapse of Keon Coleman like that hurt as well, which
part of the reason why they bring in Brandon Cooks. Yeah,
I think the overarching question now become one at such
a high level with that core that they built around
(26:24):
Josh Allen. You know five, six, seven years ago when
you had guys like Hide and Poyer and and Stefan
Diggs and and you know that that group was able
to win at a high level. And now what you've
done is you've effectively replaced that group with some homegrown talent.
And so you paid Russeau, you paid Khalil Shakir, you
(26:44):
paid James Cook, you paid Terrell Bernard, you pay Christian Benford. So,
like a lot of people said, it's a window closing,
I don't think that's it. Like I think where it
is is this group that you've paid isn't good enough,
you know what I mean? Like, and it was money
well spent, and I think we know how good the
quarterback is. But there's a lot more to it than
(27:05):
just the quarterback here, and so I think seeing that
part of it play out is going to be the
interesting thing because they really need those guys that they paid,
those guys that they've invested in to be part of
the new cores that replaced the first corps that Josh
One with to step up and be who you know,
like they thought those guys were going to be able
(27:26):
to be when they paid them.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Albert Brier joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, senior
NFL reporter at the MMQB dot com. You can get
them on x at Albert Breer. We kind of made
mention of this a little bit last hour because you
know we're watching, you know, you're going to see the
Bears play later on NFC North. Things are headed in
the right direction. It seems like you see the Packers
and the Lions teams that are still good teams, and
(27:51):
then you got the Vikings and how patient are they
going to be with JJ McCarthy knowing they let Sam
Darnold walk, they let Daniel Jones walk, and this is
the result.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
So, like I I think there are two layers to this.
There's this year and then there's the future. Right so
for this year, like Max Brosmer did enough, you know
in the summer where they would and I talked to
people that who said this, like they would really like
to see what he looks like in a regular season game.
(28:27):
And they had no idea if that opportunity was going
to present itself, but he had done enough where it
was like, you know, we'd really like to see what
this kid could do at some point, right, And so
there's that piece of it, and that could happen. It
looks like it's going to happen organically this week with
with McCarthy's concussion, right, so you know what, if JJ's
(28:49):
out this week, then they get a look at Max Brosmer,
and then you know, the question becomes like, is Brozmer
a better option if he plays really well for the
rest of the year, you know, And then there's a
second level to it, which is what does this mean
for the future. Well, you know, I think a big
piece of the rest of this year for them was like,
(29:11):
we need answers on JJ McCarthy now, and we need
to figure out who he is now so we can
start to plan for twenty twenty six and going forward.
And you know, really, for them what that's about. It's
not like they want to continue to develop JJ. There's
a lot of stuff they love about JJ, but this
isn't a rebuilding team. And I've said this to you
(29:32):
guys since March and April right when they did try
to bring DJ back and they did try to bring
Sam back. Like this is a team that's got a
lot of proud veteran players that are the primes of
their career, right Like, so like if I'm justin Jefferson
or Jordan Addison or Christian Darisaw or Jonathan Gernard or
Andrew Van Ginkel, like like I don't want to hear that, Like,
(29:53):
you know, like we're going to spend another year figuring
this out. Like you got to have answers on the
roster for those guys, right, Like, this isn't a team
that could just throw seasons overboard in the name of
quarterback development. So like I think JJ has to earn
his spot for twenty six and then he plays great
the rest of the year, they go in the playoffs
and make some noise, then he's a quarterback. If it
(30:13):
looks like it's looked, I fully expect that they're going
to bring in competition for him next year, you know.
So like there's a lot on the line, I think,
and again, like it's not necessarily JJ's fault, but like
this is a double edged sword of going to a
place like this when he was drafted. Everybody's like, well,
that's a great spot to go, and it was you
know what I mean, absolutely is a great spot to
go with Kevin O'Connell and the receivers they have in
(30:35):
the line, they have all that different stuff.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
You know.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
The other edge to that sword, though, is that like
a place like that isn't going to be as app
to wait for you. You know, It's kind of like
San Francisco back a few years ago with Trey Lance.
It was like that team could not wait for Trey
Lance to develop. That team needed an answer and in
the president, and they got that answer with Rock Party
and they move forward. So there's some similarities between this
(31:01):
situation and where the Niners were a few years ago
with Trey Lance.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
How are how are the internals looking at what's going
on in Las Vegas? Ab I mean that to me?
You know, everybody was making a hu ha hooray about
Tom Brady and his ability to get information and make
this this Vegas team super Bowl competitor. They bring in
(31:26):
Pete Carroll, My goodness, everything they got a hold of
Pete Carroll's old quarterback. He rejuvenated Geno Smith's career where
are red right now, and how we're viewing the Las
Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
Well, that information, I guess hasn't helped them with sons,
right right, kid?
Speaker 4 (31:44):
All right?
Speaker 5 (31:46):
Yeah, I mean I think there's some push and pull here, LeVar.
I mean, obviously, you got a coaching staff that was older,
that had a bunch of guys that were kind of
matched together, right so, you know, like Pete Carroll had
not worked before with Chip Kelly. Pete Carroll had not
worked before the d C. Patrick Graham either, you know.
And you know, I think a lot of this was
(32:07):
on the coaching side put together to like how competitive
can we become right now? And you know, I think
for the front office there's like a little bit of
a different look at this where this was never going
to be a one off season rebuild. It was always
going to take longer than that. You know, like the
roster they inherited, need to work in just about every
single way, you know, and so like I think that's
(32:29):
been where there's been some level of tension. I mean,
even going back to like the trade deadline, you know,
where where they had players that they could have flipped,
you know for picks going forward, and part of not
doing that was having a coaching staff that wanted to
compete in the here and now, and so now you're
sort of left in this in between. You fired your
offensive coordinator and it's like, okay, like, well what's next?
(32:54):
And I honestly look at it like this is still
a multi off season rebuild. It is still going to
take you know, a couple of years to get this
thing where they where they want to bring it, where
it can be a real contender for a championship. And
you know, I think because of that, there are gonna
be some big picture questions that are going to be
(33:15):
asked about all kinds of areas of that operation coming
out of the twenty twenty five season. And I expect
that Tom Brady's going to be a big part of that,
of course, you know, as he has been. But you know,
thus far, I mean it just I guess what you're
looking for is like just the little pieces of progress,
right like that gives you something to hang your hat
(33:36):
on going into next year. And we haven't gotten a
lot of those yet.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Albert, is there any coach that is maybe potentially coaching
for his job down the stretch here in the last
handful of games that might be a surprise to some people,
maybe the seat than some know.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
I mean, I think we all know, like Mike mc
daniel is going to be in that position, right like
just because we don't know who the general manager is
going to be, you know, going forward obviously, like you
already have a couple of openings, you know, the Giants
and the Titans eating coaches. I'm just trying to think of, like,
I mean, you know, the one that like people keep
talking about and I think he's a fantastic coach, but
(34:14):
like you know, Todd Bowles in Tampa, like if they
were to really collapse down the stretch, Like I wonder
a little bit in that in that one, you know,
because I do think like when you've talked about it
for as many years and it's come up for as
many years as it come up in as many years
as it has, is that one where it's like all right,
(34:37):
like you know, you know, we're building behind Baker Mayfield
now and this is a natural spot to make a change,
you know. I think the one that everybody's gonna bring up,
the two that everybody are going to bring up, like
if the seasons go the wrong way, are going to
be Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Now, I don't think those teams
would ever fire those guys, but like, there's gonna be
that well, you know, next year would be Tomlin's twentieth
(34:58):
year in Pittsburgh. The next year it would be hardbots
nineteenth year in Baltimore. And so, you know, I think
if if those teams disappoint down the stretch, you know,
those conversations are certainly going to happen out in the public,
you know, Privately, I think it would be more about
like is this time you know what I mean, rather
than being any sort of firing. So you know, we'll
(35:19):
see what happens with those. And I'm just trying to think.
I know there's one that I'm forgetting right now that
I'm gonna kick myself for forgetting to bring up with
you guys.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
McDermott. Did you mention McDermott. I know we talked about
the earlier.
Speaker 5 (35:31):
I don't get I don't get any sense like that
internally they're having those discussions. However, you know, I think
the the I may have I've said this a few
different times. I may have said it to you guys before.
I can't remember, but I I like like I sort
of look at like look at a little bit like
Tony Dungee in Tampa. If you remember back in the day,
(35:52):
Tony Dungee did such an incredible job of of tea
and you guys are and you guys remember how terrible
they were before he got there.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
They were.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
They were not just the laughing stock of the NFL.
They were like one of the laughing stocks in all
his sports. And Tony Duneye got there and he completely
changed that place and built, you know, a historic defense
with you know, John Lynch and Derek Brooks and Warren
Sapp and Ronde de Harper. Yeah, and that and that
and and and he did such an awesome job. But
(36:27):
they'd been knocking on the door for so long, and
because they had that defense, the urgency was amped up.
And then if you remember, at the end of the
twenty one at the end of the one season, they
started flirting with Bill Parcells and almost got him and
then wound up trading for John Gruden. And you do
wonder if like, for the same reason there was urgency
in Tampa back then, because it was like, we're only
going to have this defense for so long. If like
(36:50):
eventually in Buffalo gets the point with Josh Allen now
he's turning thirty in May where it's like, all right, like,
you know, we really need to find a way to
maximize what we have here to chase a championship. So
that would be the sort of comparison. But I don't think, like,
not to my knowledge anyway, any of those conversations have
happened yet internally.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
All right, ab moment of truth, moment of true there
and now is the time has arrived. Albert Breer, senior
NFL reporter at the MMQB and the Pride of Ohio State.
Do you feel like at the end of Saturday's game
in an arbor that the Ohio State Buck guys will
have won that game by more than nine and a
(37:31):
half points.
Speaker 5 (37:32):
It's down nine and a half now, hockey down.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Oh, wasn't it twelve? I thought it was twelve, twelve.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
And a half.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
It was going to have at one point then I think,
I don't know. I the last I heard it was
ten and a half. So yeah, it's under ten now, yikes.
I think they will. You know, I picked them a
cover last week and they did right without Carnell and
without JJ.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Yeah, I believe.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
So yeah, all right, So, like what the way I
feel about the game right now is like a lot
of people are going to be focused on our receivers
and whether they play or not. I really like our
defense with all the first round picks on it, and
that coordinator going up against the young quarterback that I
(38:22):
think could wind up being the key to the whole thing.
And so like I I, you know, like I just
I don't know how Michigan's going to score on on
Ohio obnestly hasn't really been scored on all year, you know,
So like if Michigan the team to break through that,
I don't think so. And again like this is I'm saying,
(38:43):
I think I'm not like pounding my chest here because
I've learned my lesson doing that. I do respect the
rivalry more than some people on the other side do.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Wow, there you go.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
But but but but I would say, like that to
me is the key is like if this Patricia defense
is keeping them to ten or thirteen or fourteen or
seventeen points, like I don't know how you keep the
Ohio State offense under one.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
And also you know, Matt Patrich has probably got a
red ass going back to Michigan. He probably he's got
a point to prove.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
Yeah, yeah, well there might be some things planned. I
mean this will be interesting too. Yeah. I think that
that group, that that Ohio State group, I will say this,
that Ohio State defensive group loves Matt and I think
they understand where this game is being played and what
it might mean to Matt to be able to pull
that off. And so yeah, I think there's that element
(39:39):
of it too. I I don't know, I was so
confident last year, and there was like because before that,
like the three years before that, like Michigan had really
good teams. I don't think they were the better team
in every one of those three years, but like they
had you know, however, it may have happened, got themselves
up to our level for a teen fraiary period of
(40:01):
time and this one. But last year was not last
year was last year. Last year I would say, changed
Ryan Day in a way that I think is going
to show up on SAT.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (40:16):
Oh yeah, that part of the place. What do you guys.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Think I would I would lean in your direction. I
just wanted to come down to the wire though, Like
I wanted to come down to the wire if I
had to bet on State. But I don't have a
I don't have a I don't have an interest either way.
I just want to see entertaining finish.
Speaker 5 (40:33):
I mean, look last week last year, I was in
that parking lot. It was like five degrees. I flew
in the morning of I was like shot out of
a cannon, like you know, seven eight years deep by
like ten thirty eight ms coming off the plane. And
I remember saying to my buddy Killan, I was we
were in the parking lot and I was like, I
(40:53):
was like, I like everybody by by tick as these
games wanting to see a classic. I'm like, f Dad,
I don't want to see a want this. I want
this to be the worst blowout they've ever seen. I
want the stadium to be a party after the game.
And again, like I've learned some lessons, I don't care
if the wins by one or fifty. Just get it done.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
Well, AB It's gonna be fun, and we appreciate you
joining us. As always, we're up against it. But the
great Albert Breer here with us on the Dan Patrick Show.
Let's do it again next week. I think there he
is it is the Dan Patrick Show here Fox Sports Radio,
LeVar Arrington, Jonas knocks. Coming up next here on fs
so got in trouble? It's a Dan Patrick Show here
(41:32):
on Fox Sports Radio, LeVar Arrington, Jonas knocks and for
Dan and the guys. So, so you think you think
Ohio State's in trouble? Huh? Based on Albert Breer's nerves going,
I can tell.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
You what's trying to explain it? Wait so much, Matt, Yeah,
I love it explaining it way way too much.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
It's one of those things where when you don't have
a rooting interest, it's amazing.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
It feels so good.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
It's oh, I mean it's it's great because you could
just sit back and watch it in total comfort, knowing
I don't care what happens. I just want to see chaos.
That's all I want to hear what happened. I just
I want to see k I want it because you know,
if it gets down to the wire, the nerves with
Ohio State are going to start to kick in because
then all of a sudden, all the whispers, all the conversations,
(42:22):
all like, if it gets down to the wire and
they're trailing by a couple of points or if it's tied,
all of that, I would think sides with Michigan, especially.
Speaker 4 (42:30):
Being at home, especially being at home, and and and again,
the belief system of each of these teams. They each
believe they're supposed to beat one another. It's a pretty
it sounds simple, but it's a pretty profound deal. They
believe they should beat everybody, and in these games, in
(42:52):
these games in particular, that we should beat everybody. Deal. Well,
they both believe they can win, So we'll see what happens.
Be cold as balls too. They both used to cold though,
so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Well, it's gonna be fun. You know, it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
What else?
Speaker 3 (43:10):
The next hour, we gotta we got another hour of
play with.
Speaker 4 (43:13):
Let's go, let's go what up sticks, Let's go black
and track. Baby, we don't play around. We just knock
it down. Yeah,
