(00:25):
at the Patriots, the Giants getting seven and a half.
We'll recap everything that happened over the weekend, college and
Pro and it's certainly the Lane kit and situation. We'll
have an update on that as well. We know he's
going to LSU. Is he bringing players, is he bringing coaches?
Maybe he's bringing Marty Smith from ESPN. Maybe he got

(01:27):
head coach, and we'll talk some college football as well
Andy Staples on three Sports a little bit later on
as well. Email address dpat Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle
at DP show. We start off with Lane Kiff and
leaving Old miss for LSU. I don't think anybody's surprised
at this, and he has his reasons why, but he
(01:49):
did want to stay on. And there's varying reports here,
and I want to make sure that we're being fair
to both sides here. But you know, they're getting ready
to prepare for the college fotball playoffs, probably going to
have a home game, and he wanted to stay on,
but he also wants to take some of the coaching
staff and reportedly wants to coach some of the players.
(02:10):
Now the players I understand if they came to Old
Miss for Lane Kiffin and may want to play for
him at LSU. As far as these coaches go, they
may want to go. Maybe a few of them were
on the private plane yesterday. Old Miss owes Lane Kiffen
gratitude for the wins, but once he walks out the door,
they don't know him anymore than just that he did
(02:33):
a great job there. I don't think anybody is denying that.
But he made this a public mess. And that's the
problem I had with this. You were kind of toying
with the situation. You were toying with Old Miss, you
were toying with these kids, you were toying with your
fan base. You know, you could have waited. You could
have waited till you know, you beat Mississippi State and
(02:54):
say I'd love to coach this team. But he's already
said this team, these teams that Old Miss can't win
a national title because money wasn't the issue. He said
he spoke to God. Now I don't know if God
is Nick Saban. Maybe he did speak to God, but
I was thinking maybe he spoke to Nick Saban, and
Saban said, yes, it's time to take the next step.
(03:16):
My son. You know, Laine is going to chase the
rest of his life. And once again I go back
to that documentary, the many lives of Blaine Kiffen and
everything that I thought I would like to rethink because
it seemed like he had found happiness. But I don't
(03:36):
know if he knows what happiness is. He keeps moving,
keeps moving, keepsmoving. I don't begrudge anybody who wants to
take another job to make more money, whatever it is,
but I want you to be honest. I want you
to be fair to old miss. They did give you
an opportunity here, and now you want to take coaches
(03:56):
with you. Hey, but I want to stay in coach.
I do that, and then maybe privately, I'll talk to
some of these players who might want to join me
at LSU. No leave, you don't want to stay. You
can't win a national championship. You've said that you can
at LSU. And look, my college football source said last night,
(04:17):
Lane will win at LSU. I don't think anybody has
ever denied his coaching ability. And the talent in a
three hour radius of Baton Rouge is probably unquestionably the
most talented area, most fertile college football area in America.
He'll win, He'll win, and then where does he go
(04:39):
from there? Does he wait till the Alabama job is open?
I mean, we've seen this before, so you can't sit
there and go, you know, he'll retire at LSU. He
will not retire at LSU. It wasn't money, So what
was it to win a national championship? Okay, we saw
how that worked before this with Brian Kelly. Now he'll
(04:59):
work harder than Brian Kelly did. But you know, I
felt bad for old miss because you're just waiting. And
I think we all agreed when we left on Wednesday
he was going to take LSU. So none of this
is a surprise. I think how it played out was
the disappointing part of this. But you go, that's your team. Now,
(05:19):
you're not going to coach this team, not anymore. We'll
get to your phone calls coming up, Yes, Paulie.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I think one thing that stood out to me the
past month is Lane Kiffen was pursued like he hadn't
been pursued since like fifteen years ago when he was
a hot property Tennessee, USC and he wanted his cake
and eat it too.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
He wanted the LSU job.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
More money for him, more money for his program to build,
but he also wanted to coach.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Ole Miss through the playoffs. And it's so irreasonable to
do that.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
But I think he was so in bold in the
past month that I want my cake and eat it too.
I want to coach and leave and poach and take
and do it all because I'm at the peak again.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
And I was surprised when he had comments that, hey,
I wanted to coach him, Like, You're not a victim here, Lane,
You created all of this. You didn't want to coach
these kids. Now you could have. You could be coaching,
and you're in the college football players. You're probably gonna
host a game, you're going to go to last year,
going to be another coach at LSU. You could have
(06:24):
been the coach at Old Miss, And maybe that doesn't
matter to you. Like, I don't know how important your
legacy is, because I think your legacy is damaged certainly
because of this. We move on from all of this.
I know that we do this no matter what the
story is. We'll move on and then we'll reflect back
in four years and go, oh yeah, Lane's leaving where's
(06:47):
he gone. Oh yeah, that's right, he left. I mean,
I've been around long long enough to know we do
move on from all of this. But I do think
he'll be successful. I don't think anybody questions that. But
in the manner in which he departed, that was sad
and embarrassed for Lane Kiffin. Here is Lane Kiffin. He
(07:08):
had an interview with Marty Smith just off the tarmac.
He should know to stay away from that damn tarmac.
Here is Lane on why he chose chose LSU overall.
Miss my heart was here.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
But I just you know, I talked to some mentors,
Coach Carroll, Coach Saban, you know, and especially when Coach
Carroll said, and your dad would tell you to go, man,
take the shot, you know, take the shot if you
accomplished a lot here. You know, I always felt I
always hated how we only gave one year to Tennessee
and left. I really hated that feeling of that, you know,
even though it was exciting year. But you know, I
(07:44):
think that we gave a lot to this program and
to the city, and you know, some of those historic
wins in this stadium they've ever had in best best
regular season in the history of the school. So I
feel proud of that part, but just became time, you know,
well I talk to God and go me. It's time
to tak a new step. It's a new chapter.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I just wish he would have been honest and just said, look,
I'm going to LSU. I feel like it's a better
opportunity for what my goals are and my family. That's all.
Thank you for your support. You know, I wish you
the best of luck. I wish I was coaching because
I love these kids and we've had a great season.
But look, that's not fair to you, not fair to LSU.
(08:31):
And then leave. But don't be toying around, you know,
cryptic stuff, you know, and this is a bigger problem
for college football. Could you imagine Let's say Mike McDaniel
got fired with the Dolphins and Mike Tomlin took the
job right now in season. That's what we have here,
(08:59):
a coach going to the playoffs, quitting to go to
another school. The college football's created all of this mess. Remember,
the kids were screwing it up. Now it's the grownups
who screw it up. The kids are just kind of
waiting for the other shoe to drop here. These are
all the chancellors and presidents and athletic directors. They're the
(09:22):
ones that screw it up. The coaches, yeah pulling.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Remember a decade ago when we were angry that Christian
McCaffrey skipped the sun Ball or like, he's not playing
in an exhibition sun Ball, he's not finishing his season.
We got a coach who's going to the playoffs. But
the team that doesn't go to the playoffs will miss
that often and he leaves. It's surreal that the like
you said for net Lear Fournette, Yeah, he sat out
(09:46):
a game.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Oh my god, what are you doing to the pageantry
of a bull game? No, nobody wants to play in
the sun Bowl. Well hey, oh man, you know teams
are going to hold this against Christian McCaffrey. Oh really yeah,
you know, maybe he quit on his team. Okay, all right,
this is a coach who quit on his team. Like literally,
he quit on his team and go into LSU. There's
(10:10):
a lot of opinions out there, but Lane is not
a victim. Not a victim. He'll play a victim. Man,
I wanted to coach them, You wanted to coach them.
But did you want to bring some of your assistant
coaches with you to LSU? Did you want to bring
some of your players with you to LSU? Now I
would say, hey, Lane, you can coach, but you can't
(10:32):
take any of our players in any of our coaches. Okay,
you sign a contract, let's say a million dollars for
each player in each coach that leaves that you'll pay
us back. How about that? How about we get lawyers
who draw up real good contracts to protect schools. What
was the buyout for Lane Kiffen at Old Miss four million?
Speaker 7 (10:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
And if he got fired, what was he going to
get paid? Thirty six million? Something crazy like that? That
scene out of balance here? Four million is nothing, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 8 (11:04):
Yeah, there's gonna be some type of kiff And rule implemented.
I don't know whether it's gonna be you can't take
these amount of players or you can't try to pick
off our coaches in the middle of the season. But
some type of kiff And rule they'll try to. I
don't know if they'll succeed, but they'll try to implement
it in new coaches contracts.
Speaker 9 (11:21):
Yes, Todd, anything less than a championship with LSU. How
there's that effected decision when we look back on him
leaving all mess, does he have to win at least
one title in LSU.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Even if he does, I mean great, I mean you
got a lot of talent. You're gonna have more talent
year in and year out than you did at Ole Miss.
He should win. I mean three other coaches won national
titles there, so you're gonna be another coach who wins
the national title there. Okay, but money wasn't the issue.
(11:54):
And if it's talent, good, we wish you the best.
But the way he left is the problem. It's the
problem right now with him. It's a bigger problem with
college football. What's the poll question? First down, we're Dylan.
Speaker 10 (12:07):
All right, we got a couple options, Dan from Paulie.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
If you're the Ole Miss ad, would you have let
Lane coach throughout the playoffs? Yes?
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Or no?
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Okay, yeah, Paul I'm going to say a hard no
on that would even consider it. But when you brought
up the idea of some type of contract where he
couldn't take assistant coaches and couldn't take players under that umbrella,
I could consider it, but.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
It would still be such a bad look. No, you
can't do it? Can do it?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Does anybody think that Lane Kiffin should have been able
to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs? No?
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Yeah, ton I agree that it's a very bad look.
Speaker 9 (12:44):
But I could also sell it by saying, you know,
we went this far, we're having this amazing season. We
owe it to the players to see it through. I
hate seeing that he's still in his own mis gear
and he's already agreed to coach somewhere else arrival in
the SEC. But you know he's leaving. Why don't we
get the most out of him? And well, you know
he's got this relationship with the players. Let's see how
far we can go and then good riddens after that.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
But and I said this on Wednesday, I don't want
the College Football Playoff Committee to then punish these players
and this team and hey, you don't have your head coach.
We've seen this with quarterbacks who haven't been able to
play and then all of the saidden their team, you know,
is lowered as far as the rankings go, or they
(13:25):
don't even make the playoffs. I get that Lane Kiffin
gives you a better chance, but I can't I would
rather go in with my now elevated defensive coordinator and
our team and we're playing, and it's the people who
want to be here. I can't have this. You know,
Michigan basketball did this with Bill Frieder, Steve Fisher, you
(13:49):
know both scham Beckler famously said I want a Michigan
guy coaching Michigan. And you can take a hard stance
on this. I mean, I try to be adaptable. I
mean I try to mature with all the things that
are happening, and back in my day it's easy to
say that. But this is this was just unfortunate and
(14:10):
sad how this played out. But it certainly sounded like
Lane was whippy on the tarmac and made it seem
like he was a victim and he's not all right.
We'll come up with the poll question more on this situation.
Bill Kauer actually had some thoughts. I was watching the
NFL today yesterday. He had some thoughts about this. Also,
(14:30):
Mike Tomlin getting booed at home fire. Mike Tomlin, chance there.
We'll take a break, just getting started on this Monday.
Glad you're on board with us.

We'll get to your phone calls coming up as well.
We just do every Monday best and Worst of the weekend.
What you saw that you liked, you didn't like. We'll
talk to the former Steeler head coach Bill Kuer. That
was a pitiful offensive performance from the Steelers yesterday against
the Buffalo Bills. By the way, I think you might
be surprised. The second best odds to win the Super Bowl.
(15:43):
I'll have that for you coming up in a little
bit here. Sam Hutchins he covers Old Miss football for
Clarion Ledger, and he's had a lot to report on Sam,
thanks for joining us. When did you start to think
that Lane Kiffin was gone?
Speaker 10 (16:01):
You know, I'd like to say I was going back
to Auckham's razor. I think that's what it is. Like,
the simplest explanation is probably the most reliable, right, And
there were just one hundred small things that he would
have done differently over the last you know, four weeks,
six weeks if he were staying. So I think it was,
(16:23):
at least for me, I'm not sure there was one moment.
I think it was a slow drip of realization that man, like,
why would you do that or why would you say
that or why would you phrase something like that if
you're gonna stay in Oxford? So it was more of
a slow drip for me than I think a sudden.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Realization trying to understand what happened in the meeting with
the athletic director. Did he want to stay? Did he
threaten to take coaches? Did he threaten to take players?
Was he trying to leverage this where he could still
coach old Miss in the playoffs?
Speaker 10 (16:58):
Yeah? Yeah, I think the College Football Playoff was throughout
this whole process was definitely ole Miss's best carrot to dangle, right,
and not only because Lane's never coached in one for
but you sort of are setting him up to be
the villain if he leaves the college football playoffs. So
I think that Keith Carter and that realization had set
(17:19):
in pretty firmly in Oxford, even you know, after the
Egg Bowl or we were waiting, you know, refreshing on
Saturday for this whole coaching search, before it even unfolded Sunday.
But yeah, Lane, that was kind of the last sticking point.
And I think maybe the Iron Bowl help things up
right because if Auburn would have won, ole Miss would
be playing in the SEC Championship. But yeah, Lane definitely
(17:41):
wanted to coach in the college Football playoff. And then
in his statement it was pretty strongly worded, kind of
going after Keith Carter, the athletic director a little bit.
And then in his interview on the tarmac with Marty,
I think he was a little more understanding of ole
Miss's situation and his situation.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Yeah, I don't know if he understands the gravity of
all of this. It's like, Hey, I tried, you know,
you know, I just I gotta go. God told me
to go to Lsu. I mean, it doesn't work that way. Yeah,
And I said, maybe jokingly, I thought he was referring
to Nick Saban when he said I spoke to God.
Now he said he talked to Saban and he talked
(18:20):
to God as well. He just I don't know, And
I mentioned this before, Sam, he seems like a chaser,
like there are certain coaches that are never ever satisfied.
They're chasing, chasing, they don't even know what they're chasing,
because even if he wins a national title, he'll still chase.
And I just thought that, given that documentary on ESPN,
(18:42):
that maybe found happiness, you know, with his family, his
ex wife that program. I guess that's the surprising part
of it. And it felt like he was trying to
play a little bit of a victim there at the
very end that I wanted to coach him, but they
wouldn't let me. What do you make of all to that?
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (19:00):
I thought this was truly it was so fascinating, you know,
not even because of the documentary that was certainly super
super notable, but just because of the general you know,
I guess pr campaign might not be the right phrasing,
but how he turned his life around. I Actually I
love your interviews that you've done with with Lane. Dan
and you talked to him when he's at Florida Atlantic,
(19:20):
and you know, all these different spots, and that's what's been,
you know, so beneficial about the six years he's been
in Oxford for both sides. Ole miss missed four straight
Bowl games before he got here. Look where they are.
And and Lane was a little radioactive he you know
at times at Florida Atlantic, he was he was pretty wanted.
But Lane has never become a hotter commodity on the
(19:44):
coaching market until now. So this this has been such
a beneficial relationship for both sides. But I guess Dan,
you'd remember more than me. But I was thinking about
this last night. If it goes south in Baton Rouge,
you know, not that I think it will. I think
Lane's a great coach, but I guess Brian Kelly probably
(20:04):
didn't either. But if it goes south, like where will,
the biggest risk to me is where will Lane? Where
will his name be up in the Ring of honor
one day at Florida Atlantic Like he doesn't. He's giving
up his his home right now, and certainly I think
he's going to do well in Baton Rouge. They all
think he's going to do well, and I think he
(20:25):
You know, if you go into the Hall of Fame,
like the MLB debate, he may one day have like
the tiger on his hat, right. But if it goes poorly,
I just wonder for Lane, like, do you regret giving
up your home? Giving up a place you were loved?
Six years in Oxford is the longest of any stopping
(20:45):
his coaching journey.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Talking to Sam Hutchins, Old misbeat reporter for the Clarion Ledger,
if the players voted, and I said this last Wednesday,
I know he's gonna want to stay. But if the
players won him, if they took a vote and they
wanted him to coach, then I would certainly factor that in.
If they had taken that vote, what do you think
the results would have been.
Speaker 10 (21:09):
I don't think it would have been unanimous, right, And
of course, like on a roster of one hundred plus players,
of course it's not. But I think generally it had
gotten to the point where players would have said go.
And the one aspect of this is they love Pete Golding.
The guy they promoted is kind of the perfect stability guy.
(21:30):
I had to call him come out. He's kind of
the anti Lane Kiffin. Then all Pete Golding tweets out
as Shark emoji, he's like his last forty eight tweets,
I think forty seven, I've been just a single shark emoji.
But he'll come in a root me as a Southern accent,
and he fires everyone up. So he's sort of the
perfect like foil to Lane to turn to if you
just want to stabilize the roster before your most important
(21:54):
game in program history in twenty years. But I was
at the Manning Center yesterday kind of talking to Frankly
any of the players who would chat on the way out,
and maybe it was just a small boost, a temporary boost,
because Pete and Keith gave him a great speech, but
it sort of seemed to me like they were relieved
(22:17):
that it was over. And here's the deal. Their window
to transfer will open at the end of the season,
so they can still go to LSU if they want.
And I'm sure Lane would love to have Keewan Lacy
the running back. Trinidad Chamblis the quarterback. So the players
I think are the biggest winner in this situation perhaps
because they can still go if they want, but now
they can focus on, you know, potentially hosting a game
(22:40):
in Oxford here in nineteen or twenty days, and.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
I'm guessing maybe a year from now in November, LSU
comes to Ole Miss.
Speaker 10 (22:50):
Correct, that's right, They're coming here next year. The Mustard
models will be flying off the shelves at the Walmart.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
Ear last question, what does the committee do to Old
Miss if anything, since they're losing their head coach.
Speaker 10 (23:10):
Yeah, that's that'll be. That's kind of the next fascinating thing.
The short answer is, I don't think they dropped them
out of a playoff spot. Maybe it's the home playoff spot,
maybe it's the last home playoff spot. But people have
been bringing up the Florida State situation when when Jordan
Travis got hurt. But I think the thing that some
(23:32):
folks miss is that Florida State situation. There was a
data point of Travis losing or of losing Travis, and
then they looked really bad in the next game. So
I thought, hey, there's an argument if you're Old Miss,
you don't want to go to the SEC championship game
because if you lose Lane and then get boat raced
by Georgia. That would maybe give the committee more of
(23:53):
an excuse to drop you. But you know, frankly, we
have no idea what this team looks like without Lane,
what this team looks like without its coordinators, So I
think that would be a tough sell for the committee
to drop them out of a home playoff spot.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
You're not going to LSU with Lane Kiffin, are you?
Speaker 10 (24:10):
No?
Speaker 1 (24:10):
No?
Speaker 10 (24:11):
He was so fun to cover Dan, and I did
fought yoga with him, and he was so fun. But
there were times last year over my time on the
beat that I wished I covered a normal coach, you know,
who wasn't tweeting when I was at the golf course
or at the Walmart or something.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Good stuff. Sam, thanks for joining us anytime.
Speaker 10 (24:31):
Dan appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Sam Hutchins, Old Miss beat reporter for the Clarion Ledger.
He was good. Yeah, Lane's tricky, but Lane is really good.
And I will state that once again he will win
at LSU. He will. Is it enough to satisfy him?
I don't know, and I don't know why I'm even
worried about it. I should care about it, but I
(24:53):
don't want old Miss to get dinged because their head
coach left, and they probably will, but that would be
that'd be the bad part of this from the Old
Miss perspective of that's hurting us right now. Lane leaves,
but you know he leaves a stench behind because you
(25:15):
might not get that home playoff game. Yes, Baul, you said.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
This on Wednesday before we knew what was going to happen,
that if he goes to LSU Lane Kiffin, it's going
to damage his reputation short term, long term. It's so
not I don't know if Sad's right where it's Sports said.
He was an old Miss. He was quirky, he was likable,
He poked the bear the bigger teams. It reminded me
of Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, a great character of
(25:39):
the game in kind of a next tier SEC school
going after the heavyweights, and you root it for Old Miss,
and you're rooted for Kiffin because it's fresh and it's
fun and that's gone.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
It's gone, and you know that. I love content and
Lane is content. But yes, I think this damages his legacy.
I really I do. And I like him when he's
on he's entertaining, but I don't know him. I mean
I only know him from this when he's on the show.
That's it. I've never hung out with him. We don't
(26:10):
talk when I'm not doing the show. I can only
tell you when he's on the show. He's entertained. James
in Virginia. Hi James, what's on your mind?
Speaker 7 (26:20):
Oh? Thank you for taking my call.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Brother.
Speaker 7 (26:22):
Happy Monday, dp DN that so threw one had a
wonderful things given weekend, man, And what a great weekend
of football. And I got college to the NFL for
you real quick. I really have a problem with college
football right now, man, because you've got two teams and
be by You and Bamma that are going to play
this weekend in a complience Championship and if they don't win,
they're not gonna make the college football Playoff. But then
(26:44):
you have a group five or seventeens that aren't even
playing this weekend Oregon, Oh, miss A and m Oklahoma
Not your Day that basically get a bye week and
a guarantee spot in the college football playoff. Man, it's
something they got to figure out. But it's it's crazy, man.
Roll tide, man, I'm gonna roll with them. And in
the NFL. Real quick, there's two teams I'm looking at.
(27:05):
What a great game last night, though, Man, I love
to see the fight in Washington. But the two teams
that I'm looking at, man detetions. Man, their defense is stout.
I don't know if it's the way they got it,
but they're gonna be as tough out as they get
into the playoffs. And in the NFC. Man, the Sam
Francisco forty nine ers, I think this team is a
Super Bowl and tender. What a crazy way to think
(27:27):
because they are just dealing with injuries. But man, they're
eight and two in the NFC right now, and if
they get in, I think they make the NFC Championship. Actually,
part of the face the Niners make the NFT Championship. Man,
right on the spot, I can you let me know
you guys have a wonderful day, man, the loose Commanders.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
All right, I'll take you up on that, James. You
got the Niners. They beat the Browns, by the way, Okay,
so let's give me a little more formidable opponent.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
There.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
You're nine and four, Okay, you beat the Browns. And
I watched most of the game because of course I
have to report on Shadoor Sanders and he didn't do anything.
He was just look like an average quarterback there. That's all.
Could have been worse. He could have been the Vikings quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Yes, Dylan Sanders passing prop was.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
The most bet of the weekend.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
It was over one hundred and fifty passing yards.
Speaker 10 (28:25):
He finished with one.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Really, ah, rats, This drives Todd crazy. How do they
understand it?
Speaker 9 (28:35):
How they get the half?
Speaker 7 (28:38):
I know?
Speaker 2 (28:39):
How do they know that?
Speaker 10 (28:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (28:43):
I watched a lot of the Bills and the Steelers,
and the Steelers look terrible. That offense nothing, nothing in
the second half. And I don't think Buffalo is the
second coming of the Steel Curtain. But you're seeing teams
running the football. The Bears did this, Buffalo did this.
I mean Buffalo put up numbers that people in Pittsburgh
(29:05):
haven't seen. You have to go prior to the Steel Curtain,
I think. But that that was a mess. Some of
the other games give you a sort of a cliff
notes version. Here, here's something to think about. The Colts
and the Jags are tied, but I don't think we
believe in either one of them. The Ravens and the
Steelers are tied. I don't think we believe in either
(29:27):
one of them. And then the Cowboys beat the Eagles
and the Chiefs over a span of four days. Here's
Dak Prescott.
Speaker 14 (29:36):
Having to get these wins against two elite teams. I mean,
the two teams that played in the Super Bowl last year.
Last year is last year. But you're talking about two
organizations that obviously know how to win, and we just
beat them both in two great games, as you said,
in four days and just showing the resiliency of this unit,
of this brotherhood on top of everything that we've been through. Yeah,
(29:57):
I don't know if there's been two more impressive wins,
but I can tell you right now that we're not
going to just sit on some high because of that.
We know we've got a big one coming again next week.
And all this really does for us is just give
us more confidence knowing that we can go play with whoever.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
That's true. What a turnaround here. We knew the offense
was gonna be good, but the defense. We said, if
the defense was even average, the offense is above average,
you can be a playoff team. Super Bowl odds right now.
This according to DraftKings this morning, the Rams are the favorites,
followed by the Seahawks. Wow. Then it's the Packers. The
(30:37):
three best odds in the NFL are three NFC teams.
Then it's Buffalo, then the Eagles, Broncos and Patriots MVP odds.
It's right now two quarterback race, Matthew Stafford and Drake
May the Matthew Stafford plus one oh five, Drake May
plus one twenty. Then it goes down to Dak Prescott
(30:58):
at plus eleven. Dylan, would you update the poll results please? Yeah?
Speaker 10 (31:03):
And so we asked, if you're the Ole miss ad,
would you have let Lane coach the playoff?
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Seventy six percent are saying no, Yeah, Paul, I thought
it'd be ninety percent.
Speaker 15 (31:16):
No.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
I would say, the only way they could have let
him coach Ole miss in the playoffs if you'd taken
the job at Penn State or out of conference. But LSU,
next to Mississippi State is their rival, it's it's next
door state. Wise, you can't do it. Penn State still
doesn't have a coach, which is interesting. A lot of rumors,
(31:39):
a lot of rumors there. But that's where I said
it before I'll say it again. James Franklin can't win
the Big One, but was he still the best coach
that you could get right now?
Speaker 8 (31:51):
Yeah, Marvin is Penn State looking for a coach that
can help them win a national title. Are they a
national championship contender at their best? Like, do they have
those type of expectations as a program?
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Why, yes, Well they do have a lot of talent.
I mean it feels like every year there, but then
we get into November and then all of a sudden,
we go they got a must win, there's a white out,
they're playing Ohio State, and then Ohio State ends up winning.
Speaker 8 (32:19):
Yes, Mark, but I always felt like they were a
second tier Big Ten team behind Ohio State and Michigan.
Were they ever like, hey, they're the best team in
the Big Ten. This might be a generational thing.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Yeah. I mean a while ago they were, they were,
or at least they were maybe on par with Ohio
State and Michigan. But now you got to Indiana in there,
so it's Ohio State Indiana. I mean, Michigan didn't look good.
Ohio State did to Michigan what Michigan's been doing to
Ohio State, and that's just being more physical. But yeah,
(32:56):
I put Penn State sort of in the conversation behind them.
They live in the neighborhood, but they don't have the
nicest house in the neighborhood. We'll take a break. Play
of the day next.

Speaker 11 (33:20):
Oh my god, the play of the day.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Play this is the play of the day.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Check this out.
Speaker 13 (33:31):
It's four to two from the LA forty three rams
proud the line of scrimmage with a one high safety look.
Bryce off play action, has time in the pocket, throws
down field for McMillan.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
That's the catch of the twenty. He's got the.
Speaker 10 (33:43):
Ton the five touchdown tay back touchs down.
Speaker 13 (33:48):
Carolina had the Panthers take the lead with six point
thirty four to go.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Surprise, surprise, are they for real? At seven and Six's
courtesy of the Panthers radio network. Bryce Young is the
youngest quarterback in NFL history with eleven game winning drives
in the fourth quarter or overtime, surpassing Josh Allen on
that list. Your play of the day brought to you

the Vikings and Matt Brosmer, undrafted free agent, was quarterbacking
(34:37):
for the Vikings. So you're playing against your former quarterback
and Sam Darnold. The Vikings have six points and three
hundred total net yards over the last two games combined.
He threw four interceptions, and he did what drives me crazy,
when a play is dead, then go down. He's getting
(34:59):
spun around and he's trying to make one of these
backyard throws that you make with your bros. You don't
even do that in college. You might do that in
high school or in the backyard, and he threw a
pick six. You know, it's a shame he's out there
because he's not ready to play. It looks like a
practice squad guy. But you got these injuries, and now
(35:20):
what are you going to do having a good backup quarterback?
And they had Carson Wentz. But JJ McCarthy's situation. I mean,
this is a mess because I think most people looked
at the vikings of is there going to be an
upgraded quarterback? If you're getting rid of Danny Dimes, you're
getting rid of Sam Darnold, then JJ McCarthy must be
really good, and maybe he'll turn out to be. But
(35:43):
this is this is a team that you thought, Okay,
maybe they play good defense, maybe they run the football.
You still have the best wide receiver in the game,
or at least you used to when you had a
good quarterback. Painful, painful to watch. Buddha in San Francisco,
Good morning, Buddha, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (36:02):
Went up DP?
Speaker 15 (36:03):
Happy Monday boys. Let let's go Paulie. And I know
Paulie doesn't like to show emotion or cry, but when
was the last time your Bears were the NFC number
one seed in December? That is sweetness. So but Dan,
I hesitate to bring this up and keeping this in
Paulie fashion. But this weekend wasn't like full of like word.
(36:25):
It was more full of worse for me. I mean
from the Sunday night game last night and listening to
Collins with pronounced Mario to all game confusing and then
to your point, Max Brosberg throwing more completions to the
Seahawks into his own wide receiver justin Jefferson.
Speaker 7 (36:44):
That was tragic. And then I mean, and.
Speaker 15 (36:46):
Then laying the whole Lane Kiffin thing is like, I
just don't even know what to think. I mean, that's
such a bad look, as Seeden says, jeepers, creepers, And
I cannot wait for next year in Oxford, and I
guess my best would be just the Rams going down
and my Niners beating the Browns. But real quick, full question,
who is more for real than Niners or the Bears?
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Hmm, well, I believe in both of those teams, but
you've got injuries with the Niners, like it, are they
playoff teams? Yes? I felt like they were playoff teams
starting the year. But I'm surprised with the Bears. I mean,
that's a big win. And maybe the Eagles aren't who
(37:30):
we thought they were, but you still beat the Eagles
and you ran the ball, You've dominated them. That doesn't
happen to that defensive line. David in Ohio, Hi, David,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (37:42):
Hey, Dan, best and worst at the weekend. Best watching
the buck guys finally beat Mission Wolverines after two thousand
some days. Worse of the weekend watching my Steelers. They're
just they're just pitiful, Dan Man. And I heard the
chance fire Mike Tomins fired my tomment and I just
I just think it's time to maybe go in a
(38:04):
different direction. I know, what's just thinking, Oh, who are
they going to replace? Well, Marcus Freeman name been thrown around,
as well as John Gruden. His name's also in the
coach transfer for I think both of those possibly could
be a good replacement for Tomlin.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
So thank you, all right, thank you David Chris and Syracuse,
Hi Chris, what's on your mind?
Speaker 16 (38:26):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Thank you Dan.
Speaker 16 (38:27):
It's always Hey, I got a best and worst for you,
and you covered my original best well on Lane Kiff
and not being able to coach. And I too, remember
like thirty years ago or so when Ad Bowl Chambeckler
at Michigan told Bill Frieder to get lost about coaching
in an attorney And yeah, I guess Frieder's lucky Woody
Hayes wasn't the ad. He probably would have got to
punch in the nose as well, and I guess I'll
(38:47):
shift to my best maybe one of the most underrating,
underrated running backs in NFL history, Frank Glare this weekend
is still going. He's one of the finalists for or
getting to that point of getting it to the Hall
of Fame. And there's a running back he had both
his knees blown out, third all time leading Russia. I
hope he gets in and my worst. You know, Vanderbilt
(39:08):
a big win, and I guess it's because of nil
on the transfer portal. Now, there are so many really
good teams, uh in football this year, and it's going
to be too bad that you know, there's gonna be
some left out and I can't wait till they go
to sixteen teams.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Thank you, Chris Well. It won't happen next year, probably
the year after that. Right now, Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Texas, Tech,
Texas A and m Alabama, Ole Miss at Oklahoma will
get in, and based on the odds, Notre Dame, Virginia
and North Texas will be joining them. I think North
Texas coach didn't he leave. I think he's there's a
(39:48):
couple of coaches h So North Texas against Tulane. Didn't
both those coaches take other jobs yep, yeah, uh yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
And those got to be filled and those got to
be filled in.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Those Yeah, no gift that keeps on giving. Hey, Gus,
best and worst of the weekend. Hey guys, try again, Gus.
More phone calls coming up. Bill Cowerd will join us
as well. He had some sharp comments about Lane Kiffin.
(40:24):
We'll ask him also about those fire Mike Tomlin Chance, Yes, Paul.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
On that Steeler topic, The Steelers fans got to be
in this weird position. You need your team to lose
more than win if you want a new head coach
next year. They have the Ravens, Dolphins, Lions, Browns Ravens.
That's not easy, especially when you're playing poorly. But I
think you need to lose to get what you want.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
If that's what you want, not make the playoffs, have
a losing record, like lose.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Four to the next five and then you're firing. Is
in no offense in play?
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Mm feels like everything's in play now. I'm it's very
rare when I'm surprised, be like, dam I didn't see that.
We will be back next hour. I can guarantee that
we're not going anywhere. We're not going anywhere. Bill Cower
will join us in about twenty five minutes.
