bit more insight before we analyze.

diagnosed a rare and severe heart defect in the baby,
who she's calling Gabriel. After learning of the defect, Wes
says the parents, Nauching Gilkaar and omar Amed, asked her
to schedule an abortion. Parents with medical prerogative is something
experts say is a common clause in the surrogacy contract

she had signed. Instead, Wes decided to find treatment in
Dallas for the child after birth. Texas Attorney General Ken
Passton stepped in to insure it this week, securing in
an emergency order to make sure doctors provide life saving care.

him to receive that surgery.

Courts in Alaska, at California, and Texas are considering the case,

of Texas intervention, will not necessarily get to make this
decision about what happens immediately after birth.

the surrogate mom is from Alaska. The contract for surrogacy
was signed. I believe in California and the adoptive the
surrogate parents, for all I know, I think it's probably
their egg and sperm, and so biologically it's their child.

are in California. And then the surrogate mom took refuge
in Texas. So that's why those three states are looking
at this. So you didn't get this from the news
report because they papered over the important parts and used

of the surrogacy find out about the heart condition and
say abort the baby, kill a kid. And my views

on abortion actually I'm not going to go into them
in detail, but they're more nuanced than you might think

abortions to be as rare as possible. Having studied fetal,
neurological and physical development obsessively when my wife was pregnant

with our first child, Kate, I, the idea that a fetus,
an unborn human is not a baby, quote unquote is
hilarious to me. It might not be a baby that's
quite ready for the world, but what is it. Is

it a loaf of bread, Is it a head of lettuce?

it's a friggin' baby anyway. Having said that, so sponsor
mom and dad say no, abort the kid, and surrogate
mom says, I'm not gonna have this baby inside me

months ago, I went precisely was the diagnosis? I don't
remember because I want to be accurate on this. But you,
having said no, dispatch the kid not too long ago,

are now back in charge of his care.

So if Gabriel the little fella does eventually leave the hospital,

clear what the legal outcome will be. While a separate
court order is phibiting the sponsor mom from currently seeing

she wants to raise the baby now. I think West's
legal team believes the termination clause within the surrogacy contract,
while standard, is offensive to state and federal law. According
to the Dallas Morning News, that is, if the sponsor
mom and dad say you abort this baby, you got
to abort it. That's what it says in the contract.

the surrogate mom, miss West, says the law doesn't permit
hitman contract, and this is a hitman contract. The California
who are now a California couple who are suing the
surrogate mom. We're slated to appear in Dallas County Court.

back to the story, which is absolutely fascinating, a little
bit more insight before we analyze.

Her pregnancy was on track for twenty weeks until doctors
diagnosed a rare and severe heart defect in the baby,
who she's calling Gabriel. After learning of the defect, Wes
says the parents, Nauching Gilkaar and omar Amed, asked her
to schedule an abortion. Parents with medical prerogative is something
experts say is a common clause in the surrogacy contract
(22:17):
she had signed. Instead, Wes decided to find treatment in
Dallas for the child after birth. Texas Attorney General Ken
Passton stepped in to insure it this week, securing in
an emergency order to make sure doctors provide life saving care.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
My understanding is that the arrangements are being made for
him to receive that surgery.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
One more clip.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Courts in Alaska, at California, and Texas are considering the case,
but for now, Texas law governs the welfare of the child.
According to Professor Rachel Rebuschez.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
It's a complicated situation where we're looking at intended parents
who ultimately and probably will be the parents, but because
of Texas intervention, will not necessarily get to make this
decision about what happens immediately after birth.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
All right, here's what you need to understand. The gal
the surrogate mom is from Alaska. The contract for surrogacy
was signed. I believe in California and the adoptive the
surrogate parents, for all I know, I think it's probably
their egg and sperm, and so biologically it's their child.
(23:27):
But the folks who are going to raise the child
are in California. And then the surrogate mom took refuge
in Texas. So that's why those three states are looking
at this. So you didn't get this from the news
report because they papered over the important parts and used
acceptable dialogue for woke lefty journalists who all believe in
(23:50):
abortion on demand.

Here's the story.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Unborn baby diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
It is treatable.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
It takes something like three surgeries in the first two
weeks or so of the baby's life. So it's a serious,
serious problem. And it's not like they can give the
kid an injection and it'll be fine. It's a serious problem.
But gosh, I know, it would be easier if I
(24:22):
could just use terms like mom and dad. So sponsors
of the surrogacy find out about the heart condition and
say abort the baby, kill a kid. And my views
(24:42):
on abortion actually I'm not going to go into them
in detail, but they're more nuanced than you might think
for practical reasons. But like Bill Clinton, oddly, I want
abortions to be as rare as possible. Having studied fetal,
neurological and physical development obsessively when my wife was pregnant
(25:06):
with our first child, Kate, I, the idea that a fetus,
an unborn human is not a baby, quote unquote is
hilarious to me. It might not be a baby that's
quite ready for the world, but what is it. Is
(25:28):
it a loaf of bread, Is it a head of lettuce?
Is it the designated hitter rule? Is it the planet Jupiter? No,
it's a friggin' baby anyway. Having said that, so sponsor
mom and dad say no, abort the kid, and surrogate
mom says, I'm not gonna have this baby inside me
(25:49):
dispatched by a surgeon.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Maybe she knows what actually happens in an abortion and is.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Sickened by it, so she says, Nope, ain't happening and
goes to Texas, where she knows the sympathies of the
folks and the laws and the government are with the
unborn baby and so the baby was just born the
(26:16):
other day and the treatment has begun as mandated by
Texas law and Ken Paxton, who I'm not a fan
of at all, but he's pretty strong on this stuff,
and now sponsoring mom and dad, having said abort the baby,
are now saying our kid, we ought to be in
(26:39):
charge of.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
The medical decisions.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
And the nice professor lady at the end, she does
have a point in that.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Where the hell do we go from here?
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Surrogacy is a thing, as the kids say, there's a contract,
there are laws governing it, and they're pretty you know,
pretty well respected and recognized by the courts. It is
their kid to raise. But my god, what a Disney
(27:14):
moral dilemma. You said kill it, like a couple of
months ago, I went precisely was the diagnosis? I don't
remember because I want to be accurate on this. But you,
having said no, dispatch the kid not too long ago,
(27:38):
are now back in charge of his care.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Hi, krumba, this is tough.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
So if Gabriel the little fella does eventually leave the hospital,
god bless him, because there's no it's not one hundred
percent that this treatment works.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
The little fella has a bad heart.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
If he does eventually leave the hospital, it's not immediately
clear what the legal outcome will be. While a separate
court order is phibiting the sponsor mom from currently seeing
the baby, West, that's I think the surrogate would consider
taking the child if the court permits. According to her attorney,
(28:24):
she wants to raise the baby now. I think West's
legal team believes the termination clause within the surrogacy contract,
while standard, is offensive to state and federal law. According
to the Dallas Morning News, that is, if the sponsor
mom and dad say you abort this baby, you got
to abort it. That's what it says in the contract.
(28:45):
I'm telling you that is unholy. But the lawyer for
the surrogate mom, miss West, says the law doesn't permit
hitman contract, and this is a hitman contract. The California
who are now a California couple who are suing the
surrogate mom. We're slated to appear in Dallas County Court.
(29:08):
Let's see in about twelve days. So well keep our
eye on this one. Where does this go? Is this
a Supreme Court type case? If surrogate mom, having signed
a civil contract, has come to believe as many women
(29:32):
do when they're pregnant. Everything I thought about abortion is wrong.
And again I'm not telling you what to think. Maybe
you think differently. We can still be friends. A lot
of people have a different set of ideas on this,
and it's an incredibly important and passionate topic. And I'm
a libertarian, so I don't want the government telling me
(29:52):
what to do unless it's absolutely necessary. And I get
that if you are pregnant and the government is telling
you what to do, it's a conundrum. It is not
easy for a lot of people to sort this out.
And I am not judgmental. I have my beliefs, but
I'm not judgmental be on a certain point. Okay, I
am judgmental, but just not be on a certain point.
(30:14):
But you've signed a civil contract, but you have come
to believe to your soul that fulfilling that contract is murder.
Can the courts and the authorities enforce a hitman contract?
From the perspective of the woman carrying the baby? Oh my,
(30:37):
this one is not over. We're going to be hearing
about it for a while. Meanwhile, prayers are with the
little fella and the ingenious medical care that we have here.
In America, and certainly hope the little fellas all right.

They're Japanese, so their in disputes the sort of thing
that really riles up countries. But Putin himself showed up
to show ownership of one of these islands and solidified
the relationship between Russia, China and North Korea and made
it clear to Japan that you're on the wrong side.
You're with the Americans, and we are going to squeeze

you hard. And it was very belligerent, and the battle
lines are being drawn and holy count On a similar topic,
US and Ukrainian forces went head to head in an
exercise and Ukraine whooped our butts with their drone warfare.
This is a good thing. This is an excellent thing.

The subhead to this piece, by Alistair MacDonald and a
couple other folks in the Journals says that Battlefield Drill
shows Pentagon hasn't fully absorbed lessons of Russia's war. And
that's true as far as it goes. But that's the point.
That's what they're doing there. So you know, I made
a joke senior year of high school. I was m
seing the athletic awards thing and our baseball team that

year was not great, and I made a joke about
we had I think it was something like nine wins
and fifteen valuable learning experiences. And this was a valuable
learning experience for the US forces.

US troops faced off against Ukrainian drone operators in a
military exercise in Germany, and it did not go well
for the Americans. The Ukrainian drone units easily spotted and
defeated US troops and armored vehicles on rotation from Fort
Hood in Texas.

The exercise coupled with US casualties, and Iran showed that
American and I'm sorry US casualties thanks to the Iranians
show American vulnerablebility to drones. Years after our military made
uncrude systems and essential part of warfare, we're really the
leader in long range drones and big expensive drones, encounter
drone technology, you know, Patriots systems, THAD systems, that sort
(34:15):
of thing, but close quarterlike battlefield stuff. We have so
so much to learn. The drubbing in Germany, quoting the
piece now conveyed lessons from Ukraine focused on the Short
Range Battlefield Drones exercise held in April and May, and
now they're talking about it more openly tested the visiting
troops ability to operate and defend against the proliferation of

smaller front line drones that have dominated the conflict between
Russia and Ukraine. And they're run precisely so that forces
can experience realistic combat conditions and figure out what are
we good at, what are we not good at, and
what do we need to learn. And Ukraine has been
incredibly helpful in this, incredibly helpful. They are an important
(34:57):
ally and we ought to be backing them against the
evils of the new Soviet Union. British and Swedish exercises
have also resulted in easy Ukrainian triumphs. We and all
of our friends are learning and the Air Force General
Alex Grenkowych, who's NATO's top military leader, said, look, you
can't get training like this in the US. The change
(35:18):
is remarkable and we're learning volumes to.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Basically, it is said Eliot Cohen scolear AT's a Center
for Strategic and International Studies, said it is vital that
the US military master that and thus far. Unfortunately that
doesn't seem to be the case. Just all of our
techniques involve our armored vehicles that kick up dust, and
the drone spotters or the drones and the guys who
(35:43):
operate them can see what we're doing very very easily
and smash up our vehicles and kill our guys.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
And so we learned quickly what wasn't working very well.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
And then the Ukrainians switched teams memes midway through and said,
all right, here's how you use the drone technology offensively.
Here's how you use the counter drone stuff. Here's how
you scatter your forces, here's how you conceal yourself, here's
how you use electronics to stimy the drones. It was
like drone warfare grad school and super important and super effective.

So I'm glad we're doing this. There's a lot of
learning to do, but go get them, fellas, and be humble,
be willing to learn.
