Speaker 1 (00:00):
Look, who's in a studio with me? My new best
friend Leo. Hey, buddy, right, it's good to see you
and your dad. Cody Patterson's here. Hey, Cody, what's up? Team?
You're the number one and number two? Well, you're tied
for number one Georgia fans. You're feeling pretty good about
your football team, Leo? Yeah, Georgia Dogs. How about damn dogs?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
What do we do at kickoff time? We go?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Good dog?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Sick of.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
That's it? Well, Cody, it is great to see you again.
You are the ultimate Georgia fan. You've been checking in
for years on this show. So let's let's do a
set before we see the final placement of the teams
that'll be in the playoff situation. You're Georgia Bulldogs limped,
but they're okay, played with like a shielded playbook. We
(00:49):
lost our center, which I'm a little concerned about. You know,
He's that's kind of a big deal. But when you
beat your rival, it always feels good. Obviously, Louisville did
a much better job. I hope Kirby took a few
notes from that. A good one.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
But Auburn was in it for a while and it
had to make you nerves, so many self inflicted wounds,
and I think it's hard to beat a good team twice. Right,
we saw this, And but Kirby smart is one in
seven against Alabama?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Right? How does that happen? What just changed? On the
hell Obama? I thought Bama was on the ropes and
Auburn would take him out for you and you were
gonna you.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Know, it's just just tough to be excited. But here
you are Georgia and Bama added again once again. And
so what is Kirby? What is the secret potion that
gets him off of this one in seven schneidies on.
I think he's going to have the team motivated, like
what Ohio State did last year that hole us against
the world. You know, they took it to every team
(01:41):
they played, and it's just tough in the CFP era
to be excited about conference championships anymore. I think Kirby
will have the team motivated. If we win, we're obviously
in we'd probably get a Sugar Bowl seating. If we lose,
I would think Alabama would get the buy as the
SEC like a three or four, and we'd probably host
a home playoff game in Athens. Which I do have
continue gentikis for.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Already, Well, that's good, that's tough. So it could be
who knows, any any number of teams, is North Texas
gonna wind up in one of these twelve spots.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Man. As much as I want a big playoff that
drives me nuts, I think I think University of Virginia
is gonna wax Duke, and I think Virginia is going
to get that eleven seed, but just to reserve a spot.
We saw what happened last year and it's just not
good when you let those SMUs and those boiss get
deeper in the field. They're not that great. And as
much as it pains me to say this, I kind
(02:30):
of do like Notre Dame getting in above those teams,
but just barely, you know, I just don't think it's
fair to let a team that we know is going
to get smoked. Like what's there inio budget? Like five
hundred thousand dollars going up against Oklahoma?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
I mean, come on, man, I was surprised that SMU
got exposed by California, but California had that amazing little
finish against Louisville and is like, well, what who is
this Louisville is like a twenty point favorite in that game. Yeah,
teams get hot man. So then what happened with SMU?
How did they collapse? There's a lot of money being
pumped into that program.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I don't know how these coaches keep the players focused
with the transfer portal. They need to fix the calendar
in the NCAA mean, look at what Lane Kiffin's probably
going to do to Old Miss. All these coaches that
are shopping already for players and budgets. It's just hard
to get players focused. And I think for SMU, you
have Lane Kiffin takes a job. All these other coaches
come in. These players are thinking in their minds, I
(03:23):
wonder where I'm playing next year, and they're not fully
focused on a game.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
So weird. Obviously, Ohio State and Indiana are locked in
so Ole Miss without this this rudder on the ship,
all this weirdness has just happened with Lane Kiffin running well,
I mean he wanted to stay, but they said hit
the bricks. They're on wobbly legs. You would expect, right,
I would expect. I mean, they lost their OC, they
(03:46):
lost their head coach. You've got a defensive coordinator, who
is forcibly promoted. And you've got kids that are probably
thinking about wanting to play at LSU next year, and
so is what is in't it for them? They're going
to come out on fire like yes, and they're going
to be motivated, But the genius is gone. I mean,
the genius has left the building. And so I really
don't see them getting past the first round of the
playoff unless they get a good draw and they draw
(04:08):
like in North Texas or a two lane but right, yeah, Alabama, Man,
I think Ole Miss goes down in the first round easy.
Notre Dame slides in under the tag again.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Oh man, this pays me. We were talking about this
off air. I don't know how you can tell the
SEC and the Big ten. Hey, it doesn't matter if
you win or lose your conference, you're in. And then
you tell the Big twelve. Sorry, only the conference champion
gets in. That's a tough sell because if BYU beats
Texas Tech, both of those teams should get in.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Notre Dame's independent. This is the price of being independent.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Texas A and m ends with one little blemish on
their record.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah that I thought they were treated a little bit
poorly by the committee or the AP being ranked so low.
But I think any team will take a home playoff
game because you got your crowd. I mean, you get
some momentum, you get a big win under you know,
in your sales, and you get to then go on
the road and the Cotton Bowls Bowl. It can do
good things, and they could turn into the Ohio State
of last year where they get mad and motivated and
(05:06):
they're a dangerous team to play.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Okay, how'd you like the interaction between Ohio State and
Michigan after the game, Ryan Day walking over and like,
we're not going to do the flag planning thing.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, I just I mean we knew all we all
knew was going to happen, and Michigan played admirably I
think against Ohio State, given the talent that that team has.
But I'm just I'm still not convinced of Ohio State,
and frankly I would I would bet more money on
Indiana to win it all than I would Ohio State
because I just don't think they've been tested and the
potential matchups they have this year would put them to
(05:38):
the test. You want to play Notre Dame again, No,
you want to play Oklahoma. That defense is nasty. I mean,
they've got some tough foes that they play.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
I know you watch college football enough to know that
they're the choice of candidates for Kentucky's new head coach
is limiting it is it keeps shrinking. Is there anybody
who's name popping up? You go, well, that may work.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
You know the point you made earlier about I think
will Stein is an excellent candidate. I'm a big fan
of really shaking things up and giving young guys a chance.
Maybe it's because I'm in my mid thirties and I'm biased,
but will Stein is a Kentucky guy through and through.
Not maybe not UK Kentucky, but when you can bring
a guy like that who's a Kentucky needs an offensive guy.
They've had a defensive titan for thirteen what years? Yeah,
(06:19):
they need fresh energy. I think one of your guys
earlier mentioned, Chip Kelly, What a splash that would be.
I would love for you k to get like an
offensive trickeration kind of guy. Just really shake things up
in Lexington, bring some excitement, bring some offensive energy.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Be awesome. Yeah, they haven't had, you know, the popping
offensive leadership for quite some time because stoops, You're right,
was focused mostly on defense, and then to walk out
of their Saturday and say zero percent chance is like, yeah,
that's never zero, that's right. I always got to leave
room for the reality that came sliding in here.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
But you never know who's going to turn out who's not.
Remember earlier in the year I talked to wouldn't it
be fun of Dion's prime time sand Is came to Lexington.
That would be so amazing. But I don't think that's
gonna happen. I mean, he'll probably stay in Colorado for
a while.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
It's gonna be fun to watch how all this plays
out here in the coming weeks. Leo, it is great
to see you. Is that tooth about to come out
in the front of your mouth?
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Probably?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
What's it looking like here? You think it'll last the
rest of the day?
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Probably? It just sometimes. My last tooth just came out
during the.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Night, uh huh? And was it on your pillow?
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Well? I was like, I didn't see it come out
since I was just like sleeping.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Oh okay, And did it hurt?
Speaker 3 (07:34):
H No, I didn't even feel it. It just slipped out.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Okay. Well, good luck with that.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
One all right, and I think he's got He wanted
to give a special shout out to two people. I think, Leo,
who are the two people that you've been thinking about
giving a shout out to since we talked with mister Terry.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Mama and Mama and Eli. They're listening in front, back
in home. If if you guys are listening, then I
want to give a shout out to you.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Guys. That's so great.
