Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, this story comes to us out of Texas, and
a Texas dog is recovering nicely after an encounter with
a porcupine. Now, the dog's name is Deuce, and I'm
going to call him Sweet Deuce because they said even
when he showed up to the vet's office, he was
happy to see everyone. His tail never stopped wagging. But
(00:20):
a man that owned Deuce called his daughter in a panic. Hey, honey,
something happened. Deuce got into it with a porcupine. And
the vet stopped counting at 315 quills.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Man, this dog turned into a pincushion. Now, we've all
seen the one or two or even maybe like a
little face full where the run-in happened with the porcupine.
This is mind-blowing.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
It's the most quills per inch I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
In fact, the vet even said they get them with
a couple in the nose, couple in the face area.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
They've never seen anything like this whatsoever before. Deuce has
made a full recovery.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
But the real story here on the good news is
it was an older gentleman and his daughter posted what happened.
And the dad was genuinely nervous about having to pay
for an emergency vet bill. Well, the community in Abilene
pulled together and started blowing up and calling that vet's
office and making donations.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
In fact, the vet said the phones rang off the hook.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Everything is paid for in full, and they had to
start turning down donations to help pay for this.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
That is wonderful. One look at this picture, and people
are like, I have to help.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
This looks..
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Crazy that's right deuce is now back home recovering well
his family says the outpouring of generosity reminded them how
willing people are to help when someone even a four-legged
family member is in need i saw.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
The container where they were dropping each one of the
quills it looks like a box of toothpicks.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
It is crazy i already have this on our facebook
page so go to wsrz's facebook page or go to
david and meredith's facebook page you'll see it right.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
There All right, well, let me do it one last time.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
And that is your good news, baby.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
All right, Meredith, you just shared a story, and I'm
begging you not to turn your laptop around based upon
your reaction to the picture.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, the dog-cupine one we just did.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
The dog-cupine, but there's another dog story that almost made
you sick.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Oh, yes, there is a dog... That ate a whole bag.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, you don't have to pull the article up there
because the picture almost made you sick.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
A whole bag of gummy worms. This is in Australia.
They took him to the vet.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Luckily, it was gummy worms that didn't have that special
ingredient that's toxic to dogs.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
It was like healthy ones.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Could have been bad.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But the dog ended up bringing back up all of
those gummy worms. Sure.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
2.4 pounds worth.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Unbelievable. This dog started on the bag and did not stop.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
That is absolutely wild.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I cannot believe the mounds, the three different mounds on
like puppy pee pads.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
This poor thing. Oh my gosh. The dog and its
sibling are both clean bills of health. They're fine.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Looks like most of them were not digested at all.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
But let me tell you, My dog, if you have
a dog that like wolfs things down, doesn't really take
its time and chew and like enjoy everything.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Like just wolf my dog.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
My dog.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
This can happen from time to time. And the worst
thing my dog ever ate. I only had Ribby for
like a month or two. Oh, boy. And he was vomiting.
And I was like, what the heck is going on?
So I took him to the emergency vet. They're like,
when's the last time he went to the bathroom? I'm like,
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Turns out.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
The bottom end was blocked because he ate a giant
fabric button that was at the top of a baseball
hat on a stuffed animal.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
So it's about the size of the quarter, which when
traveling through a digestive system of a- Small doggy. Three-month-old dog-
It plugged it up perfectly down there.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Oh, no.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
So they were going to do surgery.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
And the vet said, I'm going to try one more
time for a manual extraction.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
And they got it.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Manual extraction.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
So we promptly got rid of that stuffed animal. And
now I know every time I look at something, I'm like,
is there a large fabric button on.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
The top of that hat? I know.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
So that wasn't food. So any item we're looking for,
the most unusual thing, your dog ingested. Now, at least
gummy worms, those are slippery. And front end or back end,
those are coming out one way or another.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
And they smell good. We eat them. The dog probably
sees their owners eat them. Like, at least it was food.
It makes sense, right?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
That's a lot.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
That's me and my husband can put down 2.4 pounds
worth of gummy worms in a Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
All right, so we're looking for your pet's unusual ingested item.
What an odd thing to bring up. But I have
a feeling we're going to get some cool stuff. 888-599-1079.
Hit us up on the free iHeartRadio app. You can
tap the mic and send us those unusual things. ingested
(05:24):
by your animal in honor of the two pounds of
gummy worms but and that was a beagle right.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
It was a big lovely beagle.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
No chewing required evidently.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Named scooter he had to scoot on over to the
kitchen and then scoot on over to.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
The emergency vet that's right okay we'll get to that next.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
So we want to know what's the weirdest thing your
pet has ever ingested yes Hey, good morning.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
I'm calling about the most unusual thing a dog ever ingested.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
It's the end.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Of a spatula. How in the world did that work out?
Speaker 4 (06:02):
So our dogs love peanut butter like a lot of dogs.
And this is about, I don't know, more than five
years ago. I was feeding the dogs peanut butter off
of a spatula.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
And the one dog grabbed the end of the spatula
and pulled the end off of it, and it just
went straight down into her stomach.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Oh, I was picturing the super wide ones. I know
which ones you're talking about now. That is amazing.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yeah, and unfortunately, it wouldn't come back up again, so
we actually had to have it surgically removed because of
the silicone, and it won't ever deteriorate.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Oh, no.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
We love them, but they're so crazy, don't we?
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Aren't they?
Speaker 1 (06:39):
God.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, totally my fault.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
I mean, we had other dogs that would eat all
kinds of stuff. You know, the kids' rubber bands that
they use for their hair and socks and et cetera.
But this one, she was not one that ever ate anything.
And unfortunately, she was the one we had to have
obstruction surgery on because it's really kind of my mistake.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Well, who would have known that that thing would have
come off so easy?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Lesson learned.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Well, and now the only spaces I'll buy are the
ones that the ends don't come off.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Lesson learned for the human, too.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Thank you, Mike. Love your show.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Listen to you every morning. And just coming back from
my swim at Siesta Key.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Hey.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
I always listen to you guys. I listen to you
on my way up. My mom's in Largo.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Love this stage.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Oh, gosh.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Thank you so much, Mike.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Thank you. Life is good, brother.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
All right.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Let's go to yet another line here. Good morning.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
I have a Savannah cat that got a bell out
of a toy, had a strong jaw, crushed it, and
it blocked his intestine.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
A bell?
Speaker 2 (07:44):
A bell.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Like a little bell. It's in the little round ball
that they chase around. Uh-huh.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
He crushed open the ball, got the bell out, flattened it,
swallowed it.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
My goodness.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
I'm going to gold plate.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
It and make it a charm of the most.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Expensive jewelry I own. That's awesome.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
It's the most expensive jewelry she owns. What's your cat's name?
I'm looking at these cats. They're gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I know.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Mr. T. Mr. T?
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Oh, of course you need to make it gold then.
I pity the fool. For sure.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Well, thank you so much. He's alive and well.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
That's crazy. See, it's those things that perfectly can block.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
That end.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah. Who would have thought a cat would have crushed
a plastic ball toy?
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Well, when your cat looks like a cheetah.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Oh, yes.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
It's a beautiful cat.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Oh, my gosh. Well, the good thing was they never
lose the cat after that. You could hear the bell
wherever it went.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
It's August 3rd. I bought pumpkin spice creamer over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Whoa.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It's happening, brother. Merry Christmas, everyone. I'm so happy.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Meredith just hit the fast forward button.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
I hate summer. Always have. It's too hot. And I
don't know why, especially this summer. Big bummer summer.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I am so ready for fallelujah.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Okay. I think I saw a pumpkin spice thing, a
little post on your. On your Instagram.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
That's right. You sure did.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Okay. Let's go back to the phones. Hello.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
So, you guys, are you still taking stories.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
About funny dog stuff that they ate?
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
She was a little blue tick beagle. A little tiny
little thing. Cute as a button. But she got into
our wet wipes.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
And she ate like four of them.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
So, we didn't even know.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
So, I'm out pottying this kid.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
And she's... And she's straining, you know?
Speaker 3 (09:33):
She's like... So I go over there.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Poor little baby has this little... She has this little
thing sticking out of her arse.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
So I have to pull them out like they were
coming out of the container.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Like a magician pulling those colored handkerchiefs out.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
I love it. Well, thank you, WSR Lee.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Have a good one, you guys. We love you. I
love you.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
You.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Bye-bye.
