Speaker 1 (00:00):
And if you're in the vicinity of Ralston this evening
you'll see the fabulous Ralston fireworks display. They're going a
day early. And Ralston Mayor Don Grocer joins us for
a bit this morning. Don, how are you?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I I'm good this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Good to have you back me. Yeah, there are so
many of them now, you guys decided to go a
night early, right.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, there's quite a few on the fort and so
we decided to move it up and have it have
our own. I just think there's still a lot more
on the third two, but yeah, it'll be good. You have.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
The big parade tomorrow. Ralston and Seward are kind of
known as Grade Fourth of July towns in Nebraska, although
there are several others that do celebrations. Of course. How
long has this been? How long has this been a
big deal in Ralston? As long as I can remember.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah, this our sixty fifth year. Yeah, and so a
long long time. The fire department started it sixty five
years ago with a couple of fire trucks and they're
just growing since then. And you're right, h you know,
us and Seward is called I think they're the Fireworks
(01:12):
City or something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
The title right, Their title is fourth of July City,
Fourth of July City.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Fourth is there you go? And but I think our
pray is about ten people bigger than Sewards, so massive mass.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
They expect massive crowds and Seward for the massive seven
thousand they do.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
They have a big crowd up there.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Seven thousand to start, fifty thousand when it's all over.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
What do you have done for start time tomorrow? For
the parade?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
The start time is one o'clock. So it starts off
at eight eighth and Q and wanders all the way
through downtown and then it ends the seventy second in
Main Street, So it's about a mile you know, nice
tree lined streets and so nice and should be nice.
Well that will be cool, I don't think, but it'll
be it'll be very very good man.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
I remember several years ago there were a couple of
years where my son uh and his wife and they
were newlyweds. They rented a little house right on the
parade route. That was awesome. Parking, Yeah, yeah, park out
there are we have a Ralston kid in the studio here,
don Scott Borhe's are you them? You're going to be
(02:21):
in the parade.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Scott, h No, I'm not going to be in the
parade tomorrow, but will be in downtown Ralston on Saturday night.
It's our thirtieth high school reunion this weekend, right, we
time with all of the Independence Day activities in America's
favorite town, Ralston, Nebraska. Mayor Grocer, good morning, good, good
to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
It's my wife's fiftieth this year, so she's a celebrating fiftieth,
so that'll be there'll be a lot of celebrations in
last reunion.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Woh He finally dispensed with all the whoopee cushions. Yeah, Scott, Yes, Scott.
So don what else is happening that folks, well for
the weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
What so, if you guys have a pie baking contest,
So if you're interested in baking the pine and bringing
it down, that's this afternoon, and then we have a
we jury the pies and sell them and make a
little money for the archives. And then we moved to Lemon.
Fresh Days is going to be playing down there at
the Grain Ring and tonight and then the fireworks of course,
(03:28):
and then we also have the Swing Tones and Nebraska
Wind Symphony playing from six to seven thirty down at
the Green Ring, so it'll be a great time down
at the Grain Ring. And then we have our traditional
street dance which is right in the main seventy second
Main Street, the five way intersection down there.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
So that's what's happening today. Tomorrow morning we've got a
fun run at eight o'clock and at kitty S Parade
Childer sprayed at nine thirty ten, and then the big parade,
and then after that, why we've got something the volunteer
fire departments doing their water fights again. But then we
have a we have a cool down party going on
and a foam party. So I don't know whether you've
(04:07):
ever seen these foam party things, but they use they
shoot foam out of a cannon. And so after the
parade is over down at the greenery where they got
three cannons that are going to be shooting this foam
everywhere and it all disappears. You don't your clothes, don't
even get wet. It's just an amazing thing.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Beautiful, beautiful, all enjoyed. Don. It really is a great celebration.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
