was a board of education. In this case, the Nebraska
State Board of Education had an application from a new school.
This is going to be fourth and fifth grade girls
in north Omaha. It's set to open in days from now.

Just two grades. Yeah, it's an academy, it's all. It's
called the Identity Preparatory Academy, and it's just for its
all girls. They call it a middle school, fourth and
fifth grade girls. Doesn't seem like middle school, but I
don't know that that was the concern here. The state

a six' to two. Vote now we have an education,
body the State board Of education looking at a North
omaha school that wants to serve not just all, girls
but they want to serve all girls with a nod

towards being more diverse in our educational, style and they
refer to it as abolitionist. Teaching the members of The
board Of education, said what exactly is? That because we

have a responsibility as a board and by the, way
As americans to make sure that our young people are
given the opportunity to become, competent, responsible patriotic citizens of

the start of the school year for, this School The Identity. Preparatory,
academy well.

Let me tell you that the application process wasn't completed
until kind of the last HOUR in i believe It,
was may and OR actually i think, it was and
then it was brought to Us. In june we didn't
have a Meeting, in july and so by the time

all the questions were answered that board, members had it
just wasn't quite enough time and new information had come,
to light and so so in order to make a,
thorough decision it was imperative that we had a little.
Extra time and some board, members, said clearly we need

a little extra time or we're going to have to
rush to, A decision and so we took a few,
extra DAYS and i think that's what was necessary to
make a good decision in this case for.

most recently They Put Northwest high School This state Board,
of Education But Northwest high school in The needs Support to,

improve category which is the lowest designation the state gives
to schools through its. Accountability system they provide intensive support
to schools on, this List And Northwest high school may
very well be on this.

and a certification Process For Omaha Northwest. High school what

make sure that we have the highest standard possible required
to make certain improvements by being on the, priority list

was a board of education. In this case, the Nebraska
State Board of Education had an application from a new school.
This is going to be fourth and fifth grade girls
in north Omaha. It's set to open in days from now.

Just two grades. Yeah, it's an academy, it's all. It's
called the Identity Preparatory Academy, and it's just for its
all girls. They call it a middle school, fourth and
fifth grade girls. Doesn't seem like middle school, but I
don't know that that was the concern here. The state

Board of Education voted this school down and it was
a six' to two. Vote now we have an education,
body the State board Of education looking at a North
omaha school that wants to serve not just all, girls
but they want to serve all girls with a nod

towards being more diverse in our educational, style and they
refer to it as abolitionist. Teaching the members of The
board Of education, said what exactly is? That because we

have a responsibility as a board and by the, way
As americans to make sure that our young people are
given the opportunity to become, competent, responsible patriotic citizens of
a civil. Society what is it that you're. Teaching and
the founder of the academy, says, oh, no, no this

isn't Anti american at, all and it's it's all. Fine,
Okay let's see what abolitionist teaching is all. About it's
a framework focused on fighting for educational, freedom disrupting systemic,
oppression dismantling the educational survival. Complex what does that. Mean

track than someone who's not paying, attention not putting forth

students survive within flawed school systems with standardized, testing cultures

mindset the mindset that there's white society and then there's
we need to rally around each other and be different
and be an abolitionist movement to separate ourselves from whatever

board Of education, says what we're doing is making sure

said by us postponing this on criteria that has nothing
to do with what is legal and in policy on
a school that is focused On African american children is

i think the bigger problem is how much of this
is already happening in public schools that just don't put

Of education they didn't completely shoot the school, down but
they decided to postpone the approval of this school for how.
LONG i don't. Know the school's set to open here

have a Meeting, in july and so by the time
