Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Monday morning, this August the third. Good morning.
This is Nebraska's morning News. We've got Jim Rose back.
He was out on Friday, but he's right there right now.
Craig Evans, Courtney Donaho, of course, Lucy Chapman is here.
I am Scott for. This is Nebraska's morning news. News
(00:20):
Radio eleven ten kfav. Where else to start this morning,
but and everyone's favorite waterway. It's time for a straight
of Horror Moves update here.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Welcome back, Jim. You just played this song to irritate me,
don't you.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
I didn't even play it on Friday since you weren't here.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
What's the point spare the rest of the audience the
same grief that I get.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Every what's the point of playing this if you're not
here to have that look on your face at the
Straight of Horror Moves update.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
That's Scott for.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
He's out of tune, which is sad, as normally you
are in tune.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
It's not the point.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
The Dow is up four hundred and twenty five points
in the Future is trading this morning, NASDAC up over
one hundred, and oil is down just over six percent.
Right now, gas prices won't even move. But this is
all because stop me. If you've heard this, the President said, ah,
we were gonna we were gonna hit them hard. It
(01:25):
was gonna be the most amazing He said, it was
gonna be the most explosive attack since World War II.
We were gonna absolutely obliterate her on But then they
said that they wanted to negotiate, so we're letting some
time for the.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
That's fine.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
I'm not saying I don't believe the president.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
No, I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I don't even know what my problem is, to be honest,
to be perfectly honest, I don't know what my problem
is with this. Nothing over there affects me. We don't
have soldiers out there running through the streets of Tehran.
American troops are definitely in harm's way, they're in the area.
But generally this just has to do with gas prices,
(02:12):
the impact on the stock market, which is our retirement,
and what we pay for just about everything based on
consumer confidence and inflation. But it's not like the President
is scheduling me to go over to Tehran and do this.
That this has no real world impact on me. Yet
I listen to what the commander in chief says, and
(02:35):
I just look at this and go we do this.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
All the time. It changes day.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
We were gonna destroy these guys. Now we're gonna let
peace up. They don't want peace. They're backing out on
the deal. We're going back in.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
That's half the problem.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
And we just have this ping pong battle here. And
the impact it has on gas prices in the markets
is and not just that, but it's also how well
the investors and the markets interpret what the President says.
It's like they don't remember what happened a month ago
when this exact same thing happened, and they're like, hey,
(03:11):
the good, happy times are here again.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, well, it's a shame. A couple of things that
have led to this. Number one, Opek announced that it
will begin to increase production, which will add to the
amount of oil in the marketplace, which will drive down prices.
That's something the President fought for, and the Crown Prince
of Saudi Arabia said, you know, I'd really like it
if you'd stop shooting at Iran, because every time you
(03:35):
shoot at Iran, they shoot something back toward us. And
we really don't need to have our energy infrastructure under
siege by Iranian drones. So he's getting pressure by all
of the other Arab states, which shouldn't be a surprise.
I'm sure the Marco Rubio in the process of planning
all of this, that you need to know, missed President,
(03:57):
that either we take these guys out in the first
two weeks, or it's going to get worse and worse
and worse, and they're going to start targeting our friends
over there, like Jordan Leichelman, like the UAE, like Saudi Arabia.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Well, we took him out in the first two weeks.
We killed like nineteen iatolas.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, so you know what what happens today is a
good question. But the president's very worried about the politics
of all of this. The market had a big drop
last week and now did bounce back on Thursday and Friday.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
It is up.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
As you mentioned today, gas prices are down another dime
or two oil prices oil, which will lead to about
a five to six cent reduction in gas prices. From
you to me at the pump, I don't know, you know,
I'm just so frustrated by the policy of this federal government.
And it's not even the federal government it's got it's
really the White House.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
What is the plan here? What are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Do you not know what needs to be taken out
to bring these people to the negotiating table. We all
know what happens. They say one thing and do another.
It's been like this for forty seven years. Why would
it be different? Now?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
That's the thing that I really worry about is we've
been doing this back and forth now for about six months.
What are we doing for forever?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah? Now it's Cordy.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
The overall goal is for Iran not to have a
nuclear weapon that they then use against US or Israel
or Western civilization or even their own people. And they
don't have that. So if that's if that's the mission.
Thus far, that mission has been accomplished or at least
staved off, maybe for several decades. We hope we That's
(05:34):
all we can do is we look at what they're
doing and say, well, I hope they know what they're
doing because they're doing it. But this going back and forth, now,
what else are they supposed to do? Just turn the
entire area into a sand trap, that'd be my suggestion.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Or this now, we talked about this four or five
six months ago. And I'm by no means a military expert.
I'm just looking at things that I know and that
I've read and seen. You take a whole cadre of
Sealed Team, six members in there with you know, their
wingman from Israel. You go in there and you find
out where this nuclear program is and you blow it
(06:09):
up right then and there, or you take out people
who are in charge. We've kind of done it, thought
we did that, but but then what happened was the
Iranians decided to get tough on the Straits of Horror
Moves and they have their charging tolls, They've mined the place.
They are shooting drones at passing cargo ships.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
How did they charge a toll in this miles wide
Strait of Horror Moves.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Just go down the south side of it. You're being
anyone got the time? It's the William J. Lipeta Main Thruway.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Ay, let's get the traffic, weather news, and the time
sports brief.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
It's all coming up next year.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
On this Monday morning, because I opened the lid here
on the Znkers customers in box, Chris has just sent
this email in to Scott A. Kfab dot com says,
I know, the president gets blamed no matter who is
in office for a lot of things, especially high fuel
prices as it relates to foreign policy and other political factors. However,
why don't people scream at the top of their lungs
(07:10):
about the high gas taxes that are assessed. Let's not
look and let's not let other elected officials off the
hook here, or are we just going to accept, well
that's just the way doing businesses and lay all the
burden on one man or administration. Well, Chris, you know
the answer to that question. We're going to lay the
(07:31):
burden at the person and who's the president. If we
don't if we didn't vote for that person, if we
didn't vote for that person, it's his fault. If we
did vote for that person. Well, there's a lot of
mitigating factors here. And is there a.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Federal gas tax? I know there's a state gas tax.
I don't know that there's a federal one. Nebraska is
one of the highest gas taxes in the country because
we have a lot more land than people and in
order to get a road from here to Theedford we
got to charge gas taxes.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah, it's about eighteen cents. It is a gallon.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
The federal the federal gas tax. Yeah, oh boy, okay,
well that's a chunk. Yeah. We needed for the interstate
highway system. Eighteen point four cents per gallon. Yeah, we
got to have it for the interstate except when you
go through those states that charges their own turnpike tolls.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, the tolls.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Kansas Free and Turnpike, which they were supposed to stop.
That thing was built in the early sixties. They were
supposed to stop charging after they paid for it, but
that hasn't happened.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Right.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
The restaurant tax here in Omaha was only supposed to
be in a place until we short up that police
and fires and fun and that was done years ago.
But we still we love that time. Yeah, oh yeah,
lots to buy. They don't go away.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
No.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Now the eleven to ten KFAB certified Transmission Sports freef
here's Jim Roschase got good.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Morning, everybody.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Husker football is dusting off the jockstraps. The first week
of fall practice starts off on a Wednesday. Season opener
is five weeks from Saturday. New Quarterback. Now, you'd think
after the crowning of Ryola that actually make These guys
compete for the gig, but when you're paying tall dollars
for mercenaries, they play that guy. This year is Virginia
to UNL, the UNLV to unl's Anthony Calandria. He was
(09:20):
first runner up in the offseason chase for a new guy.
They had a Notre Dame backup for twelve hours, Kenny Minchi,
until he bowlded for Kentucky. We like the new guy,
says tight end Luke Lindenmeyer of Labista.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
He could throw it to me from anywhere. He can
be scrambled out of the pocket. I gotta get to
my route fast. Like everything he does is fast. His
drops are fast, which is good. We need that speed.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Through it for thirty four hundred yards last season at
Vegas in the Mountain West Conference. He can move, which
would be a pleasant switch. Kf it B Husker Info
strong man Sean Callahan will begin his regular season Husker
Buzz reports on Wednesday. This is the week for one
of the great Husker stars of your in the eye.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
On second down and two and he gave us to Craig.
Craig breaks into the hall, he breaks the tackle. He's
still on his feet of the thirty, he's in the
thirty five, he's of the twenty to the ten eight
yard nine and down he goes Roger Craig, breaking tackles
as he went, and the crowd just went crazy. The
(10:22):
ball is down at the eight yard line. Todd Brown
the split in blocking up ahead of Roger Craig. Craig
must have broken about four tackles on his way up
that field for a thirty seven yard first, right up
the middle of many Beard left, breaking tackles as he went.
He was leaving them in his wake.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
I'll tell you that Saturday afternoon, the former Husker turned
NFL MVP Craig from Davenport, Iowa, will go into the
NFL Hall of Fame. His best years were with the
forty nine ers, where he, Joe Montana Jerry Rice led
them to Super Bowl wins. He was a dynamic high
step and slasher who will be forever be loved by
Husker fans. When he voluntarily gave gave up his job
(11:00):
as the starting iback in nineteen eighty one to add
Mike Rozier to the starting backfield. His Inductor, his former
high school Husker and forty nine Er teammate, Jamie Williams
baseball scores yesterday afternoon and last night, Casey Royals got
swept by the Rockies. Colorado wins the decider final eight
to one in Denver. Kyle Friedland tossed a complete game
(11:22):
victory for Colorado. Also in Italeague play, the Angels over
Milwaukee three nothing, Boston eight four over the Dodgers. It
was the Yankees over the Cubs. Cleveland beat Arizona, Saint
Louis over Toronto, and Philadelphia beat Baltimore in a range
shortened game. National League winners were the Padres, Reds, Marlins,
and Braves. American League winners were Chicago's White Sox, Houston, Detroit,
(11:43):
and Seattle. Over the weekend, that judge in Colorado just
emancipated a bunch of college athletes threw out the five
for five rule as it applies to the freshman class
of twenty twenty two. The NCAA rule said, if you
were in the class of twenty twenty two and played
four years, you're done see Husker basketball player JaMarcus Lawrence.
But for everybody else, you get five years to play
(12:05):
five seasons. The judge, Charlotte Sweeney, said no, if you
were in the class of twenty twenty two and you
haven't played five years, you get a fifth year this year.
That unlocked hundreds of athletes in all sports, ushering in
roster chaos. If you haven't signed a pro contract, you
can return what ams. Some fans are wondering if the
(12:27):
football jerseys will now rival an outfield wall at a
minor league baseball park advertising patches from shoulder to belt buckle. Maybe,
but the Big Ten won't have any. Commissioner Tony Petitti says,
we'll leave that to the schools, but the NCAA has
put a limit on four total patches. Tony Romo is
off the air at CBS for now. The one hundred
(12:49):
and eighty million dollar color commentator was picked up for
DUI last week. He has been placed on indefinite leave
by the network Sports. His news on Nebraska's Newsweather in Traffics.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
I got an email from Greg that says, nothing in
the sports update about women's professional baseball. Come on, what's
the going It's old news. I guess they had some
women's professional baseball had the first or the return of
women's professional baseball. Kind of the major leagues for women
and I'm sure there'll be some guys that don't want
to be playing on that team here about the end
(13:21):
of the month. Well, I'm sure Sophie Cunningham of the
WNBA would have a thing or two to say about that,
and a league of their own. Tom Hanks Gena Davis
one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. That's
when people liked Rosie O'Donnell. Rosie O'Donnell was amazing in
that movie. She was so funny. It was so funny,
so good. All right, some of them are going home.
(13:44):
Such a good movie. So they've launched, relaunched women's professional baseball,
and they did so with a game on Friday, led
by the national anthem the singer Here Martha Reeves of
Martha and the Vandellas. There were a couple of other
women there supporting her, and it started off literally on
(14:07):
the wrong note, and it just got worse and worse
from there.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Come on, Martha, good, here we go, come loost, bursting
in air, game rule through the night that I was
still still there. Oh samees sast thingngle Bend or the
(14:41):
Land on the Bread.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
And the Hole of the road.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
It's a little bit of the end of the national
Anthem before the Women's Professional League kick off here.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yeah, it's been a bad year for the national anthem.
Been a bad summer. You had Patty Leabelle throw that
thing hop to the side of the road at the
Major League Baseball All Star Game, and now this.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Rehearsal is for amateurs. Yeah, you just go out there
and do it. I don't sing the national anthem just
because I have been in a situation where it's like,
all right, let's do this song. We've never rehearsed, so
let's give it a shot. And the band is in
one key and you hear it and start off singing
(15:32):
in the wrong key and then trying to find the
key in the midst of a song with people staring
at you. I have done that. It's an awful feeling.
My heart goes out to any singer who tries to
do anything like that.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
But that said, but.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Why it's necessary to roll out these nineteen sixties dinosaurs, Oh,
come on to play to sing the national anthem? Because
of what we just heard and the Patty LaBelle version
in the All Star Game, she said, just decided to lyrics.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Martha Reeves said that she couldn't hear herself, and yeah,
and then you had the two other singers there, and
it just it's it started off on the wrong note
and didn't improve from there. She powered through it, though,
she definitely powered through it, and so I'll take it
a little bit easy on them, though. I am looking
(16:22):
at the comments online here. The first one I saw
is a woman said, when the mechanic asked you to
describe the noise your car has been making, So.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
That's Martha Reeves. Well, it's a shame, because you know,
they really cranked out some great songs. And I don't
know why some of these people are not willing to
just retire and let us remember only the very best
of what they did instead of this. But some of these,
some of these artists just cannot get enough. It's like
(16:54):
Lionel Richie, Lionel Richie, I'd not ever go on tour again. See,
you don't get to be the one to make that determination.
Listen to your records from the seventies and eighties and
we'll be fine, But we don't need to see you struggle,
break a sweat on the first song and then run
out of gas about halfway through the second song. I
(17:15):
had fun at the Lionel Richie Show because you love him?
You doesn't you got a bromance for it?
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Doesn't? Just please? Would I go to watch you sing?
Don't go? Just get it done? Who made you go?
Put the ball in the end zone? The frog marsh
frog marks the Lionel Richie Show was duped.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Thinking that maybe this guy was gonna be good. And
the problem, of course is earth Wind and Fire can
still do it.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Philip Bailey was a made Philip Bailey can still do it.
I don't know how.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Physiologically, I don't know how, but the man is amazing.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
But two years ago earth Wind and Fire opened up
for Lionel Richie and.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Should have been the other way around.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Just got this message from our Douglas County Sheriff who
wants you to bring the kids where you can try
and race the Douglas County Sheriff's Office patrol goat as
well as a hydrant party, a foam party in a
movie night. This is tomorrow evening says beat the heat Tuesday,
(18:16):
August fourth, That's tomorrow, have a fun night. The Douglas
County Sheriff's Office deputies and Irvington Volunteer Fire Department before
a school starts. Hydrant and movie party from five to
nine pm on the front parking lot and lawns of
the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, which is just we'll put
it there southeast of one hundred and fifty sixth and Maple.
(18:40):
You can meet the goat, you can do tuggle war
and yard games, and there's also a baby crawl race.
And they're going to be They're gonna have very strict
limits as to what constitutes a baby. You can't be
an adult female Lucy and identify as a baby, buy
wear a bonnet. No matter how much you whine about it,
(19:03):
will you go out there and wear a bonnet and
a diaper?
Speaker 5 (19:07):
Anything about a diaper?
Speaker 1 (19:08):
You don't have to. I don't know what movie they're showing.
It's probably not going The Odyssey, Bring the kids. We're
showing the three hour Christopher Nolan movie The Odyssey.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
Three minute a Baby, I think that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Probably not even three minute a Baby, which was a
nice movie. It'll probably be the sequel Three Men and
a Little Lady Oh, or the twenty twenty six version
called four Men. It's been updated Christopher Nolan did that
one too, Scott at kfab dot com. Or you can
send a message with your own voice via the talkback
(19:48):
mic on our free iHeartRadio app that also comes into
the Zonker's custom Woods inbox.
Speaker 6 (19:54):
I haven't heard you say a word about Joe Biden's
poor child it can't pay his bills for lawyers. No,
I can't imagine that. And they probably promised that they
would take care of him and they didn't do it.
The poor guy is suffering. Let's cover the important stuff.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
All right.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
First of all, congratulations, that guy just won first prize
in Des Moines over the weekend for the Chuck Grassley
sound alike contests. So that's that's really well done.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
That's good. It just sounds like Grassley. Listen to this.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
I haven't heard you say.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
It sounds just like Chuck. Is that Senator Chuck Krassy? Goodbye.
I haven't heard you say. I have not heard you
talk about Joe Biden. Well, this is about Joe Biden's
poor child who can't pay his bills for lawyers. Hunter
Biden racked up how much seventeen million dollars in legal
(20:57):
fees that.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
A journey he didn't even need them. He got a pardon.
He didn't even need the lawyers. All I needed to
do is say, Dad, you know, yeah, you'd give me
the pardon a couple of three months ago.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Could have saved me seventeen million.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Seventeen million dollars in representing him in which hunts I'm sure,
so I guess he just feels like I got the pardon.
All this was trumped up political stuff. So hunter Biden
doesn't need to pay Winston Taylor, who has a history
of representing Democrats in whatever those issues might be. He
(21:31):
Hunter Biden says, quote, my family doesn't have any money, right.
I don't own anything of value other than my paintings,
which I painted myself.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
And he's not getting much for them anymore since Dad
isn't in the White House. He was getting big money
for those while Dad was in the White House from
people who needed Dad to be in the White House.
But then when they ran Joe out those paintings, you
couldn't get rid of those at the Omaha flea market.
I just really that none of us is ever in
a situation where we're having to take a look at
(22:05):
our assets and realize I don't own anything of value
other than my paintings, which I painted myself. Though now
the post of my painting is someone else painted and
I owe those could be worth something. Now, Lucy's a
very talented artist, she paints, those could be worth something.
This is probably a ploy to keep from having to
(22:26):
pay child support. This is probably Hunter Biden's way of
getting around child support for that lost one down in Arkansas.
That the president is not acknowledged to be one of
his grandchildren. There's plenty of money in the families. We
all know they cashed in very, very healthily during Joe's
time as vice president and then that stretch between vice
(22:48):
president and president, so don't be worried about the Bidens.
This is again, it is probably a legal ploy designed
to keep him from having to pay spousals support, alimony,
and child support.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
This is the assessment and the report from Fox News.
The former president's son reportedly spent large sums of cash
on crack cocaine, alcohol, stays at luxury hotels, prostitutes, and
expensive jewelry for his brother's widow, who he was romantically
involved with. His spending habits could help explain how he
blew through the wealth. He accumulated selling paintings and pulling
(23:23):
in a seven figure salary while employed by the Ukrainian
energy company Barisma. That's the one that had ties to Russia.
That's the one the President Biden went over as vice
president and threatened, We're not going to pay any money
to Ukraine, so you can battle against Russia unless you
fire your Ukrainian prosecutor. Looking at the Russian energy company
(23:47):
that my son Hunter sits on the board of directors for. Yeah,
that all happened. And now Hunter Biden didn't have any money.
That's maybe he can play in the WNBA. The Caitlin
Clark and Sophie Cunningham. I got this text from a
(24:09):
buddy of mine yesterday, says the Indiana Fever, because that's
who both these women play for. The Fever just came
off the toughest liberal road trip Seattle, Portland and Minneapolis.
And there were protesters out of these games because Sophie
Cunningham said I don't think men should play in women's sports.
And then everyone all the protesters shown up at the games,
(24:31):
and I'm sure the wa NBA is like, hey, this
is great.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Yeah, look at all the people.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Yeah, you had the head coach of the Minnesota Linx,
that is the WNBA team up there with a clandestine
the mid court meeting with Sophie Cunningham. This coach has
been an outspoken proponent of trans opportunities, huh, wherever they
may be. I'd love to see her reaction when some
dude decides he wants to play on her WNBA roster.
(24:56):
I'm sure she finally should under her conditions, would certainly
be welcome. But apparently they said, hey, we each have
a platform, let's make this count for the league. Sophie
Cunningham is just like about ninety five percent of all
the other girls and women in this country. They believe
that women's sports should be the purview of females, those
(25:20):
who were born girls, so there's not a whole lot
of controversy. But in the WNBA, which has a significantly
large population of supporters that would probably lean toward the
LGBTQ label, they see this as an opportunity to show
them just how much they care. So let's go ahead
and mistreat Sophie Cunningham.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
We're about a year away from one of these WNBA
teams announcing the new player Lebronia James we all come
together and do this every single morning, every single morning,
well not weekends holidays when we take days off, but
most every single morning. Here on eleven ten, Kfab hoped
(26:00):
in this segment to talk to doctor Matt Mehan. I
mentioned a moment ago we'd be talking to the associate
dean from Hillsdale's DC campus. You know, Hillsdale Hillsdale College
loves America and doctor Mihan is going to be in
Omaha tomorrow evening from six thirty to eight thirty at
the Saint John Paul the Second Academy, twenty eighth and Levenworth.
(26:23):
It's an event to talk about not only his book,
but also the reason why he wrote this book, called
The American Book of Fables in Honor of America two
fifty It's designed to help families teach virtue, American history,
and gratitude. And he will be here tomorrow evening starting
at six thirty, twenty eighth and Levenworth. Saint John Paul
(26:46):
the Second Academy. Details at Jpomaha dot org. It's free
and open to the public. Jp Omaha dot org. Sorry
we weren't able to connect with doctor Mihan, so I
will use this segment to talk about something that has
been weighing on my mind, and I was just looking
for the opportunity to bring it up. What do we
(27:08):
think about robot lawnmowers?
Speaker 3 (27:11):
I asked about him the other day because I was
playing golf on a course that had them, and I agree,
I just eliminated a few more part time jobs, and
they seem to like them.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
And I saw one.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
I was playing golf of Pacific Springs two weeks ago
and there was somebody who had a house along there
and they had one, and apparently it does the job. Now,
I'm pretty picky about my yard, so I'm quite a
ways from a robot lawnmower. I won't even let my
wife mow the lawn.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
I have a zombie lawnmower. That's my sixteen year old son. Son,
you missed a spot.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
What do you mean, brains?
Speaker 1 (27:49):
You know I won't let my wife mow the lawn either,
and it's not because she doesn't do a good job
with it. I just don't need what I presume to
be the thoughts from my neighbors going. Oh, Scott's probably
on another golfing trip and has his wife mowing the lawn.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
That dead beat.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
She does everything over there, she does, and she is
a fantastic I just I don't need that perceived thinking,
so I don't let her go. I'm worried about the
robot lawnmower. I see the thing go up and down.
Whether it's homes or businesses, you see that little thing
go up and back, and I think this is the
(28:28):
time when it misses the edge of the lawn, goes
across the sidewalking out into oncoming traffic. Or I think
this is the time when it takes out a sprinkler
head that didn't pop back down into the ground. This
is the time when it takes out the family dog.
The dog's okay, but the sprinkler head is a good point. Yeah,
I don't know how it's able to do it, but
(28:51):
I see more and more people using them.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Not me.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
I'll be the last one to use a robot. Number one,
I think it's good for you. It's the yard work
is therapeutic. I think that's good for you to do
it next to.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Pride in your yard.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Pride in your yard, you know, and feel good about,
you know, making it look decent, fighting the elements. It's
a good exercise unless you have to mow the face
of the matterhorn. It's still a pretty good exercise, piece
of exercise. But for me, I'm a long long way
from turning it over to a robot.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
I'm guessing that you're probably the last guy to go
with the driverless vehicle.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Very last guy. I may not be the last guy,
but I'm going to be among them. Yeah, as much
like for example, because here's the other part of the
driverless cars. I know it's the rage and people are
driving them, but what the driverless car does not account
for is the guy in the lane over there looking
at his phone. Okay, they they perceive everything to come,
(29:54):
but they cannot react to changing conditions. And this is
to me the great worry. If I'm driving a car,
I'm driving defensively. I expect that guy over there to
be looking at his phone.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
As I tell my kids, you anticipate that every other
driver out there is drunk and dumb. At all times,
you're looking at cars, going what's the dumbest thing that
guy can do, and then expect that he's going to
do it.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Then you'll never be in an accident.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
I just I don't want the driverless car because, for example, Friday,
I was here late in the afternoon busily working on
my computer. Computer is working great, and then didn't touch
it until this morning. This morning, the same computer. It
won't start, it won't connect to anything, it won't do
(30:41):
any number of things. And this happens all the time
with computer equipment, mine, yours, your mom's, it happens with everyone's.
And I don't need that level of Hey, I just
don't feel like coming to work today technology driving me around.
I don't need my car to suddenly be like, yeah,
I can't connect to the drives. We're just gonna drive
(31:02):
into Carter Lake right now. I don't need that. Well,
anyone's gonna drive into Carter Lake. It's gonna be me.
Speaker 7 (31:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
And I just give an example that that intersection at
fifty second in Underwood is a dangerous intersection because you
can't see people going north south. Okay, if you're coming
down the hill or you're going up the hill on Underwood,
you can't see people in the intersection coming north south.
I expect people to blow through a red light. Yeah,
so I speed limits thirty. I usually slowed down to
(31:31):
about twenty, and sure enough, this morning I slowed down
to twenty and here comes some jackass blowing through there
going north, just blows off the red light. If I'm
going thirty or thirty three, Tiba. Well, if I'm in
a driverless car, they don't anticipate the guy blowing through
the red light, Lucy, isn't that the way you come
to work at about that same time?
Speaker 2 (31:51):
He's here before me.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
I'm not even here now.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Jim, you were out of town on Friday. Not sure
if you caught the UH interview Chris Baker hosted Mayor
John Ewing.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I heard about it, but I didn't hear it. I
was actually going to go back and listen to it.
But give me the highlight.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
It was about a twenty minute conversation by eighteen minute conversation.
And yeah, the first sixteen and a half minutes pretty good.
Then it took a southerly turn, did it well, Chris
asked Mayor Ewing.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Usually my interviews go south after two minutes, not the
last two Monuch.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yeah, you usually start off there. But they had a
good conversation, and part of the discussion had to do
with law enforcement. So Chris then used that as an
opportunity to say you had said that the Douglas County
Sheriff's Department was an occupying force in Omaha. This was
(32:46):
something Mayor Ewing said at a campaign event for a
guy running against Sheriff Hanson. Mark Martinez is running against
Aaron Hanson for Douglas County Sheriff. Martinez a Democrat, Ewing's
a Democrat, So Ewing's we don't need Douglas County Sheriff
running through here like an occupying force. Chris said, you
want to walk that back, and Ewing said no, whoa
(33:07):
to his credit and why would you say that? And
Ewing said, well, because we just want more cooperation between
the Sheriff's department and the police department. And Chris said, well,
what one thing was it that caused you to say?
And he goes, you know, I've already answered your question.
Let's move on a next question. And Chris found three
(33:27):
or four different ways to ask the same question, and
then Mayor Ewing ended the conversation. I don't know that
he hung up. Chris started playing the Superman theme song,
calling him Mayor Superman, and it evolved into immaturity on
both of their parts. I would say yikes, I got
and oh yeah, I was it's like, well, hey, it
(33:51):
was a good conversation for about sixteen and a half minutes,
but it did not end well. You can hear it
on the Chris Baker podcast link. I'm proud of the
guyfab dot com, Nebraska's morning news thanks for being with
us on news radio eleven ten KFAB. People are on
these GLP one weight loss drugs. Are we allowed to
(34:12):
call them weight loss drugs? They weren't, and I still
don't think that they're specifically rated for that. But that's
what people are using them for. So they're taking things
like ozempic and and all the weight comes off. All
the weight comes off. Now people are having to go
get plastic surgery because they're saying, look, I didn't want
(34:34):
to look like skeletor here I look like I look
like a ghoule. I need a little bit of fat
and a little bit of baby fat on my face
so I still have some contour.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
So you're saying they need to do a little tuck
or a tram or a they need to tie a
giant knot behind your head.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
That's pull back the skin. Is that it?
Speaker 1 (34:52):
I'm not saying they need to do that. That's what
they've decided for themselves. I'm not saying anyone needs to
do anything. The other thing with these drugs is they're
they're losing a bunch of weight, they're looking good, they're
buying all kinds of new clothes, they're feeling better about themselves,
hopping the corral. And then you know who's who needs
to go? Your spouse that didn't do that same journey
(35:12):
with you, and I know it. I know someone. So
she dropped about one hundred pounds and then dropped a
couple hundred more because she left her husband.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
I know somebody like that. I know the cow got
you know, she's kind of getting up there. Plump dropped
it all, actually more than plump dropped it all, then
dropped the husband.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Yeah, that's an extra rough, extra two two fifty that
you can lose there.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
But he was and he wasn't fat. She just said,
you know what, I settled too soon. So off she went,
and he wound up getting married again to somebody else,
which is nice. I didn't know that. I knew the guy.
I didn't know that the wife very well. It's it's traumatic.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Any number of things could, I mean, whether it's politics.
So I feel better about myself, and I've realized I'm
too good for.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
You and there won't be anyone left or this other
guy has more money.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Yeah, Happy August to you and yours. It is a
new month, Lucy, and you know what that means.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
Yeah, I gotta pay the mortgage.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
Lucy's got to pay the mortgage. Also, this is the
year of the neighbor. This is the year of the neighbor.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
Oh right, more than halfway through now.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
I know.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
So what what are we supposed to do this month?
As you perhaps heard every month throughout the year twenty
twenty six, the first full year that John Ewing is
in office, is mayor of Omaha. He is designated each
month as a different This is the month of this,
that's the month of that, And for August, this is
(36:52):
how we can be good neighbors to our students going
back to school. So Lucy stops sneering at them, stop
telling them to stay out of your yard, and just
be a better neighbor to the students. This is the
month of being a good neighbor to students.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
I can do that, but I don't know how I
am going to deal with neighbors who have dogs that
let them wander all the way into our sideyard to
do their business.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Well, let's say they leave it.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
Let's have a problem with being friends and being kindly to.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Maybe next month be a being a good neighbor.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
In terms of how we handle our little fur babies,
we'll have to ask the mayor. We'll find out next month.
Right now, let's go back to the Middle East. Oil
is down just over six percent right now, and the
President said that World War three almost rained down on
Iran this weekend, but he decided not to. For more
on this, we welcome back to the program Fox News
(37:51):
Radio's Evan Brown. Here to News Radio eleven ten kfab Evan,
I guess the president says, we came pretty close to
the biggest assault on Iran that the world has ever seen.
Speaker 7 (38:05):
Yeah, that's what we came close to doing. And it
was called off or held off on the at the
last moment when Saudi Arabia and I guess also Oman
but also perhaps maybe the UAE and Cutter came forward
and said no, no, no, no, no, they want to talk.
They want to talk, they want to talk. So we're
going to play this game again.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
We played this game a lot, haven't we?
Speaker 7 (38:26):
We haven't. We'll probably play it some more. I would
imagine we have President Trump. You know, he has the
midterm coming up in November, and he has to keep
his eye on the price of gas. But at the
same time, he's trying to accomplish a certain goal, and
that is to make sure Iran does not have a
nuclear weapon. I think we've made significant headway with that.
(38:48):
We've probably set them back a good twenty years. The
question is would they do it again, or try it again,
or do something even more terrible, And the answer is
they might if they're not completely dispelled. So how exactly
we accomplished that is still not being discussed publicly. I'm
sure it's being discussed behind closed doors. This is a
president that doesn't like to telegraph things for good reason.
(39:11):
But at the same time, the war isn't over because
we're still sort of, you know, at this with the
ability to ramp it up very quickly if the President.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Orders it ev But I don't know if you've ever
been out with drunk friends, where you've been, I'll put
you in the role of the sober one and one
of your drums where I'm at, Yeah, one of your
drunk friends tries to pick a fight with the biggest,
toughest guy in the bar, and you've got to be
the one going no, no, no, no. He's fine, But
Iran seems like that drunk idiot trying to pick a
(39:42):
fight with America and Saudi Arabia and the UAE are like, now,
I don't listen to them, because Iran's coming out and said, hey,
we didn't make any requests. We want to fight. Let's go,
come on, put up your dukes, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
They're drunk.
Speaker 7 (39:54):
It's a little it's a little different Iran, I believe,
is well, your drunk friend at the bar is not
thinking straight. Iran is sort of the victim of its
own hype and and is you know, governed by a
death cult. They they want the fight. They think the
fight brings them some kind of paradise, so they really
(40:19):
really want this. However, of course the neighboring Gulf countries
don't because it's going to spill over to them and
they know a bit better. And but Iran wants the apocalypse.
They that's what they're openly pursuing. They admit this, it's
not it's not a secret. The United States wants to
make sure they don't have the ability to bring about
(40:41):
the apocalypse. But that comes at great cost in terms
of having to fight a war. So how do you
get them to stop wanting the apocalypse? I don't know.
You have to rid that country of the of this
death cult that's that's ruling it, and that's easier said
than done. I think everyone agrees to. I also think
(41:01):
that there are political concerns in this country that prevent
the president from going at it full force. The president
has a midterm coming up. If the price of gas
is high, that could potentially be dangerous for him politically
because it means he could lose control of Congress. If
you lose his control of Congress, that new Congress in
January is going to put a severe curtailing on everything
(41:22):
he wants to do this war and otherwise, and probably
we'll try to impeach him again. However, if he controls
the Congress, then it could just be full steam ahead.
It could be full steam ahead either which way mid November,
based on the fact that the midterms are simply over.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
The a nihilistic viewpoints of what's left of the leaders
in Iran is the sad, sober reality. I appreciate your
sober viewpoints here, V, and you are the sober one
in that situation.
Speaker 7 (41:50):
I am.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, thank you very much for the reporting.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
As always, we'll talk again soon, you bet from Fox
News Radio. That's Evan Brown here on news radio eleven
t k fabee. Oil down almost seven percent now, it's
under eighty dollars a barrel. Gas prices will be very
slow to catch up. It's it's unfortunate, but.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
Yeah, but the market will be up, you know, the
Wall Street confidence will be high.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
We have another big week of earnings reports.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
Last week was a really big year week for earnings reports,
and they were all very solid. The economy is doing very,
very well. Now there are a lot of folks at
certain parts of the economy that don't feel it yet.
But it's a big, big program and it takes a
while to sift through. He is a supply sider. The
president is a supply sider, which he believes in trickle
(42:38):
down economics. That takes us back to the Reagan years,
So it might take a little bit longer. The key
is going to be you know, we've talked about this
time and again. It doesn't get discussed much, right now,
much to my chagrin and maybe yours too, the cost
of healthcare is just becoming debilitating for American families. It
(42:59):
goes up all all the time. Nobody knows why, but
it does. That's a big factor. The cost of owning
a home, not just buying it and financing it. It's maintenance,
it's property, casualty, insurance, it's all sorts of things that
people never think about till they're in there and they go,
wait a minute. I mean, I got to do this
and this. We've got to address some of those consumer costs.
(43:21):
And I don't know how you do it without more competition, Scott.
I mean, you've got to have competition. You have to
have more people competing for your business. And if they
do the typically the price goes down. But I don't
know what you do about healthcare costs. We have basically,
what do we got three systems in this in this community.
We have three health systems in this community. That's that
(43:43):
is that is not a monopoly, but it's an oligopy,
and that's that's really hard to compete with when you
only have three places to go for your health care.
Speaker 1 (43:54):
That's certainly all a big part of it and you
could spend the next nineteen or twenty Rosie to you
know's on just that topic. This is Nebraska's morning news
news radio eleven ten KFAB. I'm Scott Vorhees. There's Jim Rose,
Jim Happy clown Week. It's clown Week. I got this
(44:16):
email from Honey B the Clown, a member of the
Omaha Wild Clowndom, one of Omaha's local clown alleys. It's
not a club, it's an alley that's is a whole
clown thing behind it. But I appreciate what the clowns
(44:36):
are doing. This week is annually celebrated as International Clown Week,
and one of the big things that they got to
do is something that I'm sure years ago they didn't
really think they'd ever had to do, and that is
improve the image of clowns. Because this generation of young
people only sees clowns as those in the sewers and
(44:56):
horror movies or things like that. So they're trying trying
to say, hey, we're fun, we're funny. Balloon animals and
face painting and hijinks and water coming out of the
flower on our lapel. It's all that fun stuff. Thirty
seven of us jammed into a car, that kind of thing,
So happy clown week.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
I thought maybe they were watching Fox News. Well sorry, well.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
That would be you know, I thought they were watching
put in the network you don't like politically, and that's
clown week.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Yeah,
