(00:00):
Scott vordies when I'm sitting here thezonker's custom was inboxes open for you via
Scott at kfab dot com. Anhour ago, we talked with Omaha City
council Member Amy Melton. The councilyesterday in Omaha made it illegal to park
your car on your yard, withseveral very odd exceptions, including, well,
(00:24):
we don't want that car on theyard unless it is not up to
date on its license plates. Soyou can have an untagged car up on
blocks right there in the yard. But if it's a tagged, you know,
brand new Cadillac, don't park thathunk a junk in the yard with
those current plates. That's ridiculous. This is so weird. And Bill emails
(00:46):
Scott atkfab dot com and accuses meof belittling the problem. The email says
Scott in your interview this morning, council Member Melton and size that parking on
a residential lawn is currently illegal undercity code and is handled by the city
Code Enforcement Department. But what happensat the code notice is ignored is their
(01:11):
follow up by the Code enforcement department. Are any cars actually towed for continued
non compliance under the existing code Iwish you had ask more in depth questions,
as this is a real problem forpeople in certain neighborhoods and eastern sections
of Omaha. I think the lawjust passed is somewhat convoluted with all the
(01:33):
holiday exceptions. But Council Member hugis trying to respond to a real issue.
You came across as belittling the problem. That's from Bill. Bill.
I haven't done a single interview inmy life where I haven't gotten done with
it and thought I could ask that. Wish I would have asked that,
should have said that differently, SoI appreciate that. But as far as
belittling this problem, I pretty muchbelittle every problem interview unless it's a very
(02:00):
small problem, in which case Ilike blowing it up into more than it
actually is. The issues you're askingthough about right now, if you park
your car in your yard and someonecalls the city code department, they'll come
out and say, hey, you'rein violation of this. You got ten
days to move it. The wayit works is your question, is anyone
(02:22):
actually towed for continued non compliance. It's especially dumb and not done because what
you can do is move the caroff the yard and then move it back
onto the yard and your ten daysstart over again. Also, let's think
about the things that have happened herein Omaha where now we get the police
(02:43):
involved. Is smoking in violation ofOmaha smoking Ordinance? Call the cops.
How many people have been busted forsmoking a place they've not supposed to have
been smoking? Maybe in the firstfew weeks of that ordinance. I don't
think that this happens a whole lot. You know, who else was supposed
to be called? If you werenot wearing your face mask during the pandemic
(03:04):
here when we had that, You'resupposed to call nine to one one.
This guy doesn't have his mask.Well, it's kind of on his mouth,
but it's not over his nose, and he's gonna kill all of us.
He's gonna breathe that covid out ofhis nostril holes on us. So
you're supposed to call the cops. The jails full of people who were in
non compliance with the face mask ordinates, No they're not. What about Omaha
(03:25):
is saying, all right, we'vegot a winter weather advisory here and we're
going into emergency mode. Don't parkon odd number of the streets on odd
numbered days and then our due parkon the odd number day and people were
confused. And you know what Omahadid about it. Nothing. They just
said, well, apparently it's confusing. We're just not gonna do it.
(03:46):
That loss still on the books,by the way, that you're not supposed
to park on the wrong side ofthe street depending on odd or even days
and where the addresses are when theplows are coming down here on to plow
the snow. But we just stoppeddoing it because people were confused. What's
going to happen to this cars andyard ordinance? Nothing? Probably a whole
lot of nothing. Well, sowho really was the force behind this one?
(04:11):
Ron hugg Okay, he's a citycouncilman who believes that we have a
huge public nuisance by people parking carsoff the street into their front yards.
Is that the essence of it?Because there's really no other community wide push
other than a few complaints that Ronhas gotten. He's a relatively new member
(04:33):
of the city council. Yeah, the former councilman down there was unavailable because
he was in jail, so Ronbecame the guy that was selected as Vinny.
And you know, there are Idon't get to that area as much
as i'd like to, but thereare smaller lots, narrower streets, in
(04:54):
some cases no garages, so youwill see a preponderance of cars in yards
in that part of town. Andthat's not the only part of town.
We've talked about the parts of townwhere it's a problem. What frustrates me,
Scott is that there is significantly greaterconcern across the community than where people
are parking their cars on their ownprivate property, and that's the business that
(05:16):
the city council should be working up. You're right. The last person to
get arrested for smoking with Sharon Stone, and she didn't spend a whole lot
of time in jail. If you'llrecall that scene from Basic Against questioned,
are you going to arrest me forsmoking? They can't think they did.
Well, she was in the policeyeah, and she was in the police
station, so she was within great, great equidistant to a jail cell for
(05:42):
smoking. Hang on, it's oneof my favorite things to do. Hey,
Lucy, you got that movie referenceand she says, happy Gilmore listen
Ghostbusters. Yeah, it was aGhostbusters that was anti Sharon Stone and the
scene there with the legs and allthat. That was from Ghostbusters, that
good, good one Lucy nailed itagainst from Dennis the Menace. Yeah,
so we don't. Yeah terms, and trust me, there were many terms
(06:06):
and they were very endearing, butwe really don't. We just don't mess
with people. It's like the oldfireworks ordinance, you know, you couldn't
shoot fireworks off another one and thecops said and then hung up, Sure,
we'll look into it. Yeah.Well, by then it's it's Columbus
Day and they're not shooting off thefireworks anymore. It's you know what it
(06:28):
is, it's a community policing itself. The neighbors in that area. If
you've got somebody that has turned yourtheir yard into Sunny Gerber's, you know,
branch office, then just it's gotto be a community engagement function.
It's got to be the neighbor sayingamen, you know what, because there's
(06:49):
something you can do with the cars. Because none of the rest of us
are doing it. It's not goodfor the neighborhood. Believe this is not
a cops issue. When the OmahaParks Department says, yeah, stuff's getting
vandalized, trash and pollution all over, every single one of Omaha's parks,
all over. We're doing our bestto try and keep up with im,
but it's impossible. That issue, this issue of just being a bad neighbor,
(07:10):
just parking your your old RV outthere, whether or not the shinola
or is full. There's another that'sanother Ghostbuster's reference in terms of I think
a happy gilmore. So, youknow, all these things basically come down.
And even here the Douglas County Assessorwants his assessors to go out to
be able to carry some sort ofpepper spray because of all the potential people
(07:31):
out there bothering. It all comesdown to just be a better person.
Yeah, you know, quit quitbeing a huge dp bag and just be
a better person. Why don't wemake it illegal to be a bad person?
And almost that's what's next, Scott, And that is, Look,
if everybody else is keeping their yardnice and they put their garbage cans in
the garage at night, as opposedto just treating their driveway like a dumpster,
(07:57):
how about this, Why don't youdo that? Okay, why don't
you put your garbage cans in thegarage? Why don't you take that vehicle
that's been up on cinder blocks sincethe Clinton years, and do something with
it so that you're just a betterneighbor. This is what it's about.
You can't expect the government to belegislating behavior like that. And this is
what this is. This ordinance isabout legislating people's behavior, which is nannyism.
(08:20):
But it's also a waste of time. As we've been detailed, lots
and lots of ordinances get ignored bythe police because they're chasing down bad guys.
Yeah, they're a little busy. They're busting criminals. They're keeping people
from killing each other and maiming eachother. No, that card, there's
a car up on blocks in theyard. We'll get right to that.
Right right now, we got someoneselling fentanyl to a seventh grader. But
(08:43):
I'm gonna stop this and come overand see what's going on with your problem.
Two more emails. Terry says, when we're all forced to have electric
cars, think of all the carsin the yard with a big extension cord
coming across the yard. And thenLarry wants to point out that best of
both worlds was also on that VanHalen albo Okay, thank you as his
get up. That's a great albumcut Van Halens on thank You, Larry,
(09:03):
Thanks to and you know it's nextpeople be parking, people will be
plugging their extension cords into the neighborsoutlet. On yesterday, show talked with
Matthew Barrows Nebraska Freedom Coalition. Theywere among the groups sponsoring the big event
last night at a church in Millardthat featured a national conservative speaker. Charlie
(09:28):
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, came to town because he, along
with others like Klay Travis and BuckSexton, heard right here on KFAB every
Day eleven to two. They arepushing for the Nebraska legislature to switch to
that incredibly crazy idea where whoever winsthe popular vote in the state should get
(09:50):
all of the state's electoral college votes. This is a crazy idea that the
Nebraska Democratic Party says is an extremeidea. Never mind the fact that this
crazy idea is actually done by fortyeight other states. It's only Nebraska and
(10:11):
Maine that divvied up by congressional districtAnd people love to do the math,
especially here in Omaha. We loveto make ourselves seem incredibly important. So
you know, Biden wins this stateand Trump takes this state, and then
this swing state does this. Youknow, it could come down to Nebraska's
one electoral college vote in Nebraska's seconddistrict, and Trump could win by far
(10:33):
the popular vote in Nebraska. Butbecause Nebraska divvies up those three electoral college
votes by the three congressional districts,Biden could win Omaha and Biden could be
re elected just thanks to Omah. Will that happen. I don't know it
could. The math does check out, but I will tell you that someone
(10:54):
mentions this every four years and itdoesn't even come close to happening. As
Let's see how quickly I can findthis email as yeah as Joe says and
the Zonker's custom woods inbox Scott atkfabdot com. Scott, if the election
is close, one electoral vote inNebraska won't matter. Trump will have to
(11:18):
win big to overcome thousands of Bidenballots sitting in boxes right now, ready
to be counted at eleven PM onelection night. That's the assessment of Joe.
My pillow officionado sent to Scott atkfab dot com and don't take my
sarcastic comment as thinking that Joe's wrongeither. I just like making sarcastic comments.
(11:41):
So, with all of this atplay, the Nebraska legislature, headed
up by Julie Slama, state senatorfrom Peru area of Nebraska, said this
is the year we're going to doit. After thirty years, it's time
to go back to nebraks of beinga winner take all state. When it
(12:01):
comes, you win the popular vote, even by one vote, you get
all five of Nebraska's coveted electoral collegevotes. That's right, all five.
And they took it up. Itgot tacked on as an amendment to another
bill, and it was soundly defeated. People have different ideas as to why.
(12:24):
But the conservative state senator who headsup that committee, Tom Brewer of
the Sandhills, said there isn't Thisbill is not going to pass in this
unicameral. It's not going to comeup. We don't have time and there's
not the political will to do it. Well. That caused Clay Travis and
(12:45):
Buck Sexton and Charlie Kirk and DonaldTrump to absolutely lose their minds. Hence
last night's event that we had promotedon the show yesterday in conversations with two
of the people involved in including CharlieKirk. They had an event last night
and Millard. Hundreds and hundreds ofpeople showed up to Lord of Hosts Church
(13:07):
in Millard. There next to theAmazing Pizza machine, which is right across
the street from just the ho humpizza machine. And they got together at
this church. Oh, I gota headshake from Lucy. You didn't like
my pizza machine joke? No,I love the pizza machine. So did
they get the overflow? I don'tknow if people are like, oh,
(13:30):
I can't get in. Oh,they got ski ball over here next door.
Let's go over here next door.So they had hundreds of people show
up. The first assessment we havehere is regarding the location. Nebraska State
Senator Megan Hunt of Omaha, whois to say that she is a liberal,
is to say that my thighs arepale. And I'm just you're gonna
(13:56):
have to take my word for itthat my thighs are pale, damn near
transen, like one of them Newtsin a cave that's never seen the sun.
It asked me sometime, I'll showyou anyway. Megan Hunt, who
is quite liberal, didn't like thelocation of this event. She said,
here's the IRS form to fill outto complain about the tax exempt status of
(14:20):
the church hosting this event. Thatbeing again lord of hosts church in Millard,
and I would encourage you to takeher up on filling out that IRS
form to complain about the tax exemptstatus of a church hosting the event.
(14:41):
And I'm sure that Megan Hunt wouldagree with me, because apparently this is
a bugaboo of hers that any publicschool that has one or several teachers in
there essentially leading a democratic revolt ofwinning hearts and minds of students for any
of the liberal causes of the daywith various signs and flags and discourse and
(15:05):
books and libraries and anything else outthere that might be pushing liberal causes that
shouldn't happen in a public school thatshould be a nonpartisan location. So I'm
sure that not only the tax exemptstatus, but also the public funds going
to public schools that are being runas operations for the Democratic Party, we
should also ask about the tax exemptstatus of these locations. I'm sure that
(15:28):
same IRS form would work out.By the way, that church was not
hosting the event, other groups wereusing the space of the church to host
their event. She might see itas a distinction without a difference, but
(15:48):
it might be important if the irsis involved, which they're not going to
be. So now we have theactual event itself. People were in there
rally. State Democratic already had amobile billboard. Is calling Trump people extremists
for wanting to do what every otherstate except Nebraska and Maine does do a
(16:11):
winner take all electoral vote. Janeklebthinks it's extremist for Nebraska to award all
of their votes to the winner ofthe popular vote. She says, well,
that would disenfranchised voters here in Omahawho voted for the other guy.
Never mind all the people who votedfor the other guy from a Republican standpoint
in California, who know that interms of the electoral College votes that will
(16:33):
go exactly nowhere As California is awinner take all state. It's and she
hadn't called them a bunch of extremists. It's the same issue, but she
likes the outcome better there. Soall of this is going on. Charlie
Kirk came out last night, gavea rousing speech, had on a Husker
shirt. Everyone was all excited, and the push of all of this is
(16:57):
to say, all right, maybethis le legislative session as a lost cause,
maybe they're out of time, maybewe can't get this out of committee
or whatever, but Governor Pillen couldcall a special session of the legislature to
push the state senators to do this. Now, Pillman has said he supports
(17:21):
winn or take All, but hehas not said what he would do in
terms of a special session until now. The Governor's office has released a statement
and it says, although it isnow clear that win or Take All cannot
pass during the regular legislative session, the governor looks forward to partnering with legislative
(17:45):
leaders to move win or take Allforward in a special session when there is
sufficient support in the legislature to passit. Governor Pillon is an enthusiastic support
order of Winner take All has beenfrom the start, and we'll sign it
into law the moment the legislature putsit on his desk. That's the clearest
(18:10):
mud statement from Governor Pillen's office. He said, oh yeah, Governor Pillen
looks forward to doing this in aspecial session when there is sufficient support in
the legislature to pass it. Now, that could mean he has no intention
of calling a special session because he'sbeen told there's not sufficient support to pass
(18:32):
it. Why waste our time?Or maybe this means that they're still moving
and shaking and pushing to try andget that support in the legislature, and
once he's told yes, we cando this, then he'll say, all
right, special session, mom, back state senators, and let's do this.
They have a bill, they havedebate, they have a public hearing,
(18:55):
they have a vote. Nebraska iswinner take all by November. I
don't know which of these is morelikely. It sounds like to me from
the wording from the governor's office andfrom the assessment of State Senator Tom Brewer,
who I believe once winner take allin Nebraska, when he said we
(19:15):
don't have the support to pass it, so it's done, it sounds like
this is not going to happen. But that's the latest on that issue that
had a lot of activity in Millardlast night surrounding it. This is not
the only issue in Nebraska that's earnednational attention from those who push for conservative
(19:38):
causes that are disappointed with our state. I'll tell you about the other one
that just hit the daily wire thismorning. That's coming up next. Scott
voices News Radio eleven ten KFAB.It's some pushback here in the Zonker's custom
woods inbox, and that email isScott atkfab dot com. As we we
(20:00):
just talked about, there are anumber of conservative people, including President Trump,
pushing for Nebraska to do a winnertake all like nearly every other state
in the country when it comes toelectoral College votes. Well, Richard emails
and says, actually, I thinkall the other states should split their electoral
votes. Think of this in Californialast election. I bet more people voted
(20:23):
for Trump in California than actually livein Nebraska. Yet these people get nothing.
You know. That's an assessment fromRichard. It might be right.
I could look it up, butinstead I'm going to read this email from
Mike, who has the same take. He says, I'm a conservative voter
in Douglas County, even though Ididn't like it when District two went for
(20:45):
Obama, I respect the decision. If Republicans do not like the current system
across the country, they should pressureother states to change away from Winter take
all that change in many states wouldchange the calculus, and a lot of
states where the big cities dictate theselection of electors a tyranny of the majority.
Governor Pillen needs to leave this issuealone. I understand that, and
(21:11):
I couldn't possibly agree more. Butthey're not going to do that. So
you can hate the player, youcan hate the game. Right now,
this is the game, and theplayers are trying to play the same game
that the other ones are playing andwinning. So that's the reality the situation.
(21:33):
And then regarding State Senator Megan Huntwanting to strip tax exempt status from
the church that allowed these groups tohost an event there, pushing a conservative
item while not talking about anything else, I guess, But Stephanie says,
does Megan Hunt want to give taxforms to the Try Faith Institute as well?
(21:56):
And then Lucy emails Scott at kfabdot com and says, did she
send a tax thing to Biden forthis? And here's the president speaking at
a church in South Carolina? Soyeah, I doubt it on these fronts.
You can send your email as well, Scott atkfab dot com. But
Winner Take All is not the onlyissue that's getting national attention from conservative groups.
(22:19):
Angry at Nebraska and making fun ofus for what we're doing or not
doing. The Daily Wire has astory today headline red state bill to keep
mails out of women's bathrooms sports teamsfails after two Republicans abstain. I wonder
what state they're talking about. We'rehere in Nebraska talking about this throughout the
(22:42):
week. Know that on Friday therewere two state senators voted into office by
a conservative majority who decided that theydidn't think it was a good idea to
keep men off of women's sports teamsand out of women's locker rooms and bathrooms
as these sports and spaces act herein Nebraska. Failed to get the votes
(23:07):
necessary to overcome a filibuster. Theyfailed by two votes. Those two votes
were from state Senators Tom Brandt andmerv repe Brant down there west of Beatrice
Repee here in Ralston. And we'vetalked about this quite a bit, but
(23:32):
it took a few days. Butnow the national conservative media is looking at
this, going what is going onwith Nebraska. I thought Nebraska was a
red state. We've talked about this, it is, but blue people have
managed to take over the legislative committeesto be exceptively effectively kill a lot of
(23:55):
these conservative bills, and then you'vegot those who who read people thought represented
their interests who go into the legislatureand go changed my mind. So I
don't know, this bill is notdead. We talked with Kathleen cauth earlier
this week and she said she's goingto bring it back. But you know
(24:18):
this as the NAIA College Sports,I mean, the NAIA is the small
colleges, and they said for theirsports teams, you're not going to be
able to be a man and playon women's sports teams. That's the assessment
of the NAIA, as the NCAAis continuing to let whomever do whatever.
(24:41):
And the coach for South Carolina, which just won the national championship in a
very well populated TV viewing audience overIowa, South Carolina women's coach said,
yeah, I think transgender athletes shouldbe able to play wherever they want to
play. And then the Babylon Besarcastic news site says South Carolina women's basketball
(25:03):
coach announces incoming recruits Greg and Daveas Jim Rose said off the air this
morning, and I predict you'll hearthis on the air at some point.
So don't tell him I said thisif he wants to say it. But
Jim said, you know, i'dask that coach Don Staley is the coach
at South Carolina who is a greatplayer in her own right. As she
(25:27):
says, yeah, I think guysshould be able to play on women's basketball
teams. All right, take alook at your team made up of women,
and tell me which one or twogirls on your team would have to
go to bring a couple of guysin to take their spots. That'd be
a good question to ask her,the question she didn't get asked Fox News
(25:48):
Update next Scottes News Radio eleven tenkfab. Every time something like this happens,
I think about someone who had ameeting today, like, you know
what, it's time to retire.I think it's time to cash out of
this volatile stock market. Things havebeen pretty good here the last few weeks,
and maybe it's time to just callit a career here. Let's divest
(26:15):
from the stock market and ready toretire. So they said, when should
we meet with her? Well,I've got stuff going on on Monday,
and I got a dentist appointment onTuesday Wednesday morning. We'll meet with our
advisor at nine o'clock Wednesday morning, first thing Wednesday morning, and we'll take
our money out of the stock market. And then the stock market opens at
(26:36):
eight thirty and the Dow drops fivehundred points and they're like, hey,
Kenny, can we move up thatmeeting? Can we hear you know?
Actually, if you look at it, the Dow is actually up one hundred
and fifty points from an hour ago. It's still down three hundred, but
it's going in the right direction. This happens a lot. And when I
(26:59):
say this, I mean this weirdconfluence of very strange economic factions that leads
to crazy behavior on Wall Street. Here's what happens throughout the month of March.
People go out and buy stuff.Lucy, did you make any purchases
(27:22):
in March? Buy anything? Isure did? Gas food? Was that
what you bought in March? Moreor less expensive than last March or even
last February? Very much more expensive? See, I thought so too,
I thought so too. I justgas alone, and it's still going up.
(27:42):
And here's a word to all thoseeconomic experts. Unless something crazy happens
in the next three weeks, whenthey look at the cost of inflation month
over month, year over year forApril, it's gonna go up. Not
possible, Scott, how because Ijust heard in a press news conference,
(28:06):
thank you press conference yesterday out ofthe White House the prices were going down.
Yeah, I know. She toldus that Biden comics are going great.
This is it? So you gotto be wrong. Economy's humming,
I know, I guess you know. Here's here's how they they say that
the economy is humming. Well, job numbers are up. Yeah, it's
people working two or three jobs. And yes, that means that there are
(28:29):
a lot of jobs. It's thesame person taking all of them. But
there's a lot of jobs being granted. And then you got people hiring for
any number of things saying we can'tget anyone to work here. We all
we do is offer a full timeemployment, full time. I don't want
to work full time. I wantto work when I want to work,
which is great if you can doit. Not everyone gets a chance to
(28:52):
do. So then you got that, and then you've got people and having
to go out and buy gas andfood which costs a lot more. And
they say, look at this economy, it's doing great. As we're out
here struggling to buy gas and food. So the economic experts ostensibly go out
throughout the entire month of March andbuy stuff all month, oblivious to the
(29:18):
higher cost of this stuff. Andthen you get April tenth, that comes
around, and it looks back atthe month of March, at the cost
of everything month over month, yearover year, and the and it comes
back and says why things are moreexpensive in March. And these economic experts,
who have yet to get anything wrongin my or anything right in my
lifetime, right every month, it'slike, oh, let's take a look
(29:42):
at the inflation report. Oh theexperts got close, but they were wrong.
Sometimes they don't even get close. Now this one they got close.
They said, we expect that Marchhad an inflation year over year increase of
three point four percent, and weexpect that month over month, from February
(30:04):
to March, inflation crept up bypoint three percent. This was the agreed
upon economic expectation for the month ofMarch. And then the reality comes out.
Nobody asks me, slaps us rightin the face, and the reality
was, well, you thought itwas going to be three point four,
but it's three point five. Youidiots, you morons. And then if
(30:30):
you look month over month, youthought it was going to be point three,
it was point four. And eventhough I think if you get it
down to a tenth of a percentagepoint, I think that's pretty close,
right. But because they expected alittle bit less and it was a little
bit more, doesn't matter how howclose it was. Suddenly everyone's like,
(30:53):
oh no, all the stuff thatwe bought that we knew was more expensive
when we bought it, well, just came out and said it was more
expensive like we thought, but itwas off by a tenth of a percentage
point. When you're looking at themonth of a month, it's more like
a hundredth of a percentage point.A few hundreds of a percentage point time
to sell everything. That's it.This experiment we call American capitalism is over
(31:18):
sell everything, set fire to theoffices, and let's go. You know,
it's this is the dumbest thing. And it happens all the time.
And then after a few hours youget late in the afternoon, someone comes
along and says, guys, it'snot that bad, and these all these
(31:40):
Wall Street tycoons and their coke binges, you know, come out after spending
all day with their hookers and blowand just be like, oh, yeah,
you're right, maybe it's not thatbad. All right, let's find
some buying opportunities. And they getback into the stock market that five hours
ago they said it's all done,it's over sell everything, it's all gonna
(32:00):
crash. Time to jump out awindow. And then a few hours later
they're like, I'm sorry that whatI said was hasty. There are some
opportunities to be had in the market. And by the end of the day,
oftentimes when this happens, the stockmarket builds back up a little bit.
Sometimes it even ends with a littlebit of an increase, and everyone
says, well, apparently Americans areokay with inflation. And the Americans are
(32:23):
like, I don't know what youpeople are doing, all of you experts
in the economic front, I don'tknow what you're talking about. I know
I have to go out and buystuff. And then there's this indicator from
the Biden administration that says, hey, inflation's not that bad because they don't
count food and gas in their inflationnumbers. You know, because who out
(32:47):
there in a monthly budget for themselvesor their families has to count food and
gas in their monthly budget. ButPresident Biden did something this morning that's different
than from the official word from hisLabor department. He looked at the cost
of food and even though under hisadministration, the cost of food has gone
(33:13):
up by what thirty six percent sincehe was sworn into office, and you
better believe it. If Trump werein office and the cost of food was
up thirty six percent, President Biden, well that you know, would be
President Biden, whoever else, GavinNewsom, who would be running against Trump,
(33:35):
would be looking at that number andthey'd be blaming Trump under this administration,
look at the cost of food. Now, this is happening under Biden,
but it's not his fault. Hedid acknowledge the high cost of groceries.
You know whose fault it is?Those greedy grocers, the double g's,
(33:57):
the greedy grocers are out there. They're getting record profits, he says,
without having idea one what he's talkingabout. These guys are making so
much money. Look at all themoney that's coming in. Never mind the
fact that pressures from Democratic stronghold citiesand states have forced grocery stores to pay
(34:22):
a kid going in there bag groceriesfor five hours a week fifteen dollars an
hour. I love the assessment thata high school kid bagging groceries or flipping
burgers deserves fifteen dollars an hour. Then why isn't that You know, that's
twenty four hundred a month if you'dworked forty hours a week, right,
(34:44):
So why isn't that the minimum SocialSecurity payment for retirees? But I digress.
So the grocery stores have to paythe employees to get them to come
to work, and this is thestandard minimum wage in a lot of these
(35:04):
places. Win inflationary costs for fuelespecially go up. Well, now it
costs more to bring this stuff tothe grocery store. The grocery store didn't
ask for fuel to suddenly start goingthrough the roof. They didn't ask to
have a minimum wage imposed on themby workers who weren't asking for it.
(35:25):
The kids that aren't supporting a family, retirees who aren't supporting a family,
you know, they all get paid. There's now fifteen to eighteen dollars minimum
wage. In some instances, it'sstill hard for them to find places to
work, and the cost of everythinghas gone up, so that cost means
that food costs go up, andto the grocery stores, if there is
(35:47):
a profit made at the end ofall of this, maybe they are socking
it away rather than saying, allright, were we made a little profit,
we can perhaps lower the costs ofsome of the food here in the
grocery store. Maybe they could, but you know why a lot of businesses
don't because they have a lot ofquestions about the future. And businesses tend
(36:12):
to want to stay in business. And when you don't know what next month
is going to hold, when youdon't know what this fall is going to
look like, when you don't knowwhat's going to be going on and who's
putting what political pressure on what economicindicators and inflation, you tend to kind
of hoard those profits a little bit, not because you're greedy, but because
you know that winter is coming andyou need to have some money there to
(36:37):
be able to get you through potentiallean times when you've got experts saying,
oh my gosh, you think we'rea bad way economically, now, this
bottom is still going to drop out, And you're a business owner and you're
looking at you're hearing that, whatare you gonna do? Ah, forget
(36:57):
profits. We don't need to stayin business past September. Let's just bet
it all on black, you know, let's just roll the dice on this
one and hope everything works out.Government does that every day with your tax
dollars. A private business owner can'tdo that. So when the President of
the United States says these guys aremaking too much money, the leader of
(37:21):
capitalistic America is blaming people for makingtoo much money. I don't care if
that grocery store is looking, ifthey're swimming in their money bins with screw
taking laps next to Scrooge McDuck.I don't get there's your ducktails reference for
this segment of the radio program.People get mad when I don't give a
ding to my references. So Idon't care if these guys are swimming in
(37:45):
all this money. This is America. If you want to be a greedy
jerk and take all the profits foryourself and play, pay your employees nothing,
and charge people out the wazoo, this country allows you to do that.
I would think that perhaps people beingpeople would look at what's going on
and say, I choose not todo business there. I'm definitely not going
(38:07):
to work there, and I've heardwhat's going on with the employees, and
I don't want to shop there. That's also what happens in America. But
to have the leader of the freeworld blame people he doesn't know and have
no idea he's never run a grocerystore. Unless he starts talking, I
bet by the time Biden's done talking, he probably has run a grocery store.
(38:28):
Who knows what he'll claim he's donenext, You know, for him
to blame them, yeah, youneed to do your patriotic duty and give
back. How about this cut theirtaxes? See if that helps this situation
at all? Because all I knowis Biden's never run a grocery store.
(38:49):
We shouldn't have the president blaming businessowners for making his assessment of what constitutes
too much money. And if hewere not president and grocery costs had gone
up thirty six percent in the lastthree years, he'd be blaming the president
of the United States. But becausehe looks in the mirror and sometimes sees
(39:09):
and acknowledges that he's the president ofthe United States, then suddenly it's not
his fault. Hey, But givehim a break. He just woke up.
Coming up here on the program foxKFAB News Update, John Ewing would
like to be mayor of Omaha.I'd been a very popular, often re
