Speaker 1 (00:00):
I just saw an interesting stat that was kind of
interesting to me. It was a rundown of the top
ten states where you're most likely to be single and
potentially die single, and Florida is in the top ten
because twenty six percent of Florida residents have never been married.
And I would be in that twenty six percent. That's
more than one in four. Yeah, that's a high number.
(00:21):
I'm surprised it's that high in Florida. Now, New York
state thirty six percent of people have never been married.
Just as a rough gauge, So New York State thirty
six percent, twenty six percent, and then there's obviously eight.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
States in the middle.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yeah, I'm not surprised about New York, just because you've
got a lot of younger professionals in New York trying
to build their career, so you would think they were
single and never married. A lot of people coming out
of school and stuff like that. New York is a
focus point for I know, I've had friends that wanted
to go to New York and begin their career, do
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
So that's not a surprise.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
I am surprised Florida has twenty six percent of people
never married that surprised you or not?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Not really, I don't think it's that high of a percentage.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
One in four one and four, I mean never married.
This is never married all ages. It's kind of interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
It is interesting, I mean anymore less and less I
think people are getting married.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, but I feel like I'm an anomaly.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I feel like when I like, I was at at
a party this past weekend, a couple of parties this
past weekend, and I'm rare.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Most people have been married or are married.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah, So this number being this high I find interesting
because I think most people have been married. But somebody
mentioned to me, and I'm curious what you think based
on this stat if you're over forty man or woman,
is it a red flag if you've never been married?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Because that was brought up to me, Oh you've never
been married? What's the matter with you?
Speaker 3 (01:49):
It does kind of make you step back and think, like, hmm,
what's up with that? Afraid of commitment? Or like or
what happens to relationships? Why do they fall apart? Why
didn't you ever get married? But I wouldn't even put
that forty. I would raise it up a little bit
more like forty five.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
What do you think about this?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
One in four Floridians have never been married, And do
you think it's a red flag off someone's over the
age of forty and has never been married. I'm curious
about the people in your life. I mean, maybe you're
not forty, but you got coworkers, you got family members, friends.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Now more and more people aren't getting married.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
I think more and more a lot of younger people
are waiting. Yeah, let me get another female perspective. All right, ma'am,
what do you say?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Hey, I'd love to weigh in on this whole not
being married thing.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Go ahead, all right.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
So I have five kids, but the same guy I've
been with for seven years and.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
We have no aspirations getting married.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
I make more money than he does, so yeah, it's
all about money.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I don't want to be married.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
I make more money if we get divorced. Dude, I'm
not paying you alibony. Hell no, my kid, I'm.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
Not worried about you taking my kids.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
No, they're my kids. I'm not going to keep them
from them.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
But they're my kids.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
So no, no, we ain't going through this.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I'm not paying any money. Yeah, all though I'm an
of money.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Well, a lot of people have seen parents or friends
and divorce has been very expensive. So I'm wondering if
that she's a little younger, I'm wondering. That wasn't really
my thought. I just never met the right person. Yeah,
and then you get to a certain point where then
money becomes a factor because then you have assets, and
it's like, oh, hold on here.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah, I'm just curious. I mean, never been married. Do
you have an ambition to get married? She doesn't. That's interesting,
that was clear.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
But if you don't find the right person, you don't
find the right person.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Okay, so it's an interesting thing.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Would you rather somebody be divorced once or twice or
never married? Does some of that bring a red flag
to you? You have a perspective on this, ma'am, share
it with us.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
I think a lot of people are taking unconventional lifestyle
roots and they're choosing to live free your lifestyle and
a lot of.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
Times, but I know that's me. I have no desire
in twenty six I've no desire to ever get married.
I've never wanted to get married, and I want to
be able to travel. I do want to have kids,
but Honestly, I don't really want a baby daddy in
the way, and I don't want somebody holding me back.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
Tying me down and dictating how I can live my life.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Well, that's why it's a good idea to get married later,
not in your twenties.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I think this is so funny, ma'am, because if I
wouldn't say all that, lul would be like, you're being
so negative about marriage.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
Well, and it's true.
Speaker 6 (04:30):
I mean marriage complicated things, and honestly, I don't believe
in monogamy. If I ever do have a long term relationship,
it's going to be a polyamorous relationship. Why worry about
myself cheating when I can give them permission basically to
have relationships with other people, and same goes for me.
Pollyamory is becoming a much bigger thing.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Mus what's your numbers? You see the smile on Maverick's face.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
It's interesting. People have different perspectives on this. Yeah, what
about you? The never married group? I mean, I'm a
part of it. She's apparently a part of it. What
do you think here? Does it raise a red flag
to you or not? I'm always made to feel guilty
like I was at a party this past weekend. You know,
if you're over forty never married, it's like it's a
red flag.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
It It does make people wonder a little bit.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Well, what's interesting is we've talked to some women this
morning that don't want to get married. Yeah, and so
you wanted to respond to all this conversation, sir, Hey,
good morning, marrick.
Speaker 8 (05:26):
Hey, you're talking about people not getting married. Our society
is a throwaway country. You gotta cell phones two years old,
you throw it away, you got carlis not right? Instead
of fixing it and trying to make it better, I
let's trade it in. It's just with such a easy society.
Now matters is the same thing. Oh, we're not happy with
the person who I with? What's going to change?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah, I mean, I hear what you're saying, and I
see part of that. But I also think a part
of it is people have seen kids, have seen their
parents get burned, whether it be a man or a
woman in a divorce and have to pay significan amounts
of mine or have visitation limited, and they're like, you
know what, I don't want.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
To go down that road.
Speaker 8 (06:04):
Well, that's true.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
So people aren't going to get married now because of
the threat of divorce. I won't get married because I
could have divorced.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Well, get married to share your life with somebody. You're
in love, so you should go into it thinking that
and believing.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
That, Well, you can be in love and not have
to get married.
Speaker 8 (06:20):
I have a couple of friends and they have four kids,
so all three kids one should get on the way,
and they've never been married. They love each other, but
they just never want to cross that line of getting married.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Then they're probably happy, and they're happy exactly.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
It's an interesting conversation.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Is it a red flag if someone is single, see
her his friends are in a relationship, but not getting married.
Is it different when someone gets a little bit older
and never been married. Does that raise a red flag?
Are you surprised a quarter of the state of Florida
has never been married. You don't find that that surprising?
I do, all right, So now this conversation about getting
(06:58):
married not getting married is coming up in your relationship,
Is that right? Good?
Speaker 5 (07:02):
You guys just talking about people wanted to get married.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Do you think it's weird if you meet someone who's
never been married and doesn't want to get married.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
No, My boyfriend's not big on the big marriage thing
at all.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Why.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
His parents are still still married, they've been married for
a while. But that's just how he is. He's not
I mean, we've been dating for almost two years and
he's not big into the wanting to get married yet.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
So well, he may have seen some people that it
has not gone well.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
But do you want to get married?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Of course.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
Uh oh, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
We'll see how that works out.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Yeah, we'll see how that works out. You think he
can get him to change his mind?
Speaker 9 (07:39):
Hopefully?
Speaker 5 (07:40):
He's kind of talked about it a little bit, and
his parents have said he's never really talked about that
with anybody else.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
So do you think you might change your mind?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
No, my mind won't get changed. So hopefully we can
work on him and he'll want.
Speaker 7 (07:51):
To get married.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
See, but that I think this is a breakup waiting
to happen. Don't say that.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Well, you're both talking about changing someone's mind. That's never
a good thing.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Yes, but he maybe he didn't want to get.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Married until he messed that kind of situation I'm talking
about right here.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
But it's her that's going to change his mind because
he's got such love for her that he doesn't want.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
To lose her mine exactly.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Thank you, I got you, I got you.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
I wish you the best, sweetie, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
But don't say but I want to get a backup player,
don't get a pet together me.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
What do you think about this? All right?
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Now?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
What is your philosophy, ma'am?
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Yes, I'm calling about more people that want to be
married or not.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Is it weird if you don't want to get married
and you've never been married.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
I don't think it is. I think it is more
now people don't want to be married because I'm married,
and I swear, if I could do it over again,
I will not be married.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Sorry about like you.
Speaker 9 (08:56):
Though, I'm not sorry about it. My fifteen year old,
she says, now, I never want to be married. I
don't like the sec up of having to tell someone
where I'm going.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
It's interesting, though, See your fifteen year old knows you
don't like being married.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Now she doesn't want to get married.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
The wonderful I'm down with that.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Well, I do think. I guess times are different now,
but I mean I grew up in a house my
parents were very loving and everything so.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
That's what I witnessed, and so I did want to
be married one day.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Now I'm divorced. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
My parents were married forty three years until my father
passed away.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
They they still had have been married.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
I have seen a lot of raakeups and a lot
of unhappy marriages, and so it scares me because it's like,
e half of.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
Them that got married got married because SOCIETSI say, that's
what you should do.
Speaker 9 (09:42):
Are back in the days they saw their parents married
and everybody get along.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
But things changes, the economy changes, people changes, so some
of them.
Speaker 9 (09:50):
Will get married because grandpa got married and he was
married for fifty years and they stay married five days.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
You're exactly right though a lot of things. Sometimes that
paper does change things. They say, Oh, the paper doesn't
change anything, And I've seen where it does change things.
And the way people act trying to get married is
not how they act once they are married.
Speaker 9 (10:09):
I don't think it's weird. And if I'm ever separated
and someone asks me to marry them, I will then
break up with them.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
You're serious. I love you, ma'am.
