Speaker 1 (00:00):
I just saw is handshake Day?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (00:03):
The handshake, of course, a small gesture to introduce yourself
to somebody.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Yeah, in a welcoming way. It signals hello, it can
say goodbye.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
National Handshake Day celebrates that quick clasp of the hands
and all the communication packed into that few seconds of contact. Yeah,
was with somebody the other day. They don't shake hands?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yeah? Why you shaking your head? I didn't even get
into the story yet.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
The thing is with the shaking hands anymore. I look
to see if they reach out first, and I don't
care if they don't want to shake my hand. Everybody's
got their thing.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah, I'm offended. You're offended by a Why what is.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
The deal with that not wanting to shake hands? Can
you explain that to me?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I think it's a well I shake hands, So I'm
assuming I'm guessing that they have a problem with germs
and are wondering, where was your hand before you touch mine?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Get a little bottle of hand sanitized, or keep it
on your key ring, like I understand that.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, especially with my mom, you know, we'll wear somewhere.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Her thing is she likes to touch everything, like doors
and stuff. I usually open the door for her, and
then I open the door, and then I get frustrated
her because then she touches the door.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
I'm like, don't touch it. I open it so you
don't have to touch it. She can't help it. I understand.
But then you get in germs. So if you're you're
worried about germs, I totally get it. We've had some illnesses. Well,
what are you going to do?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Hand to pull out the back over Yeah, forget that,
you keep that a bowl over there.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
What are you supposed to do if you shake someone's hand,
pull out the hand Sanitizer's defensive?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Like, what do you think I got a mind?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Well, you for standing there? It might bother them if
they're standing. Let's say you shake hands and you're an
hour meeting and they're like, she if it bothers them,
they got to sit there for an hour going something
that mightl be on my hand.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Hold on if you shoot somebody's hands and then go
to a.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Meeting for an hour and the only thing you're thinking.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
About in that meeting is I can't wait to sanitize
my hands.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
You got issues?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well, I'm just wondering if that could be the case.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Here's the other thing with the handshake. Lulu says, it's
fine if you want to shake hands. I find it
weird if you don't. The other thing is and this
is the thing with guys. And I've noticed this recently.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Now. I was raised by marine. I was taught to
have a firm handshake.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
There's a difference between a firm handshake and somebody.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Gripping you and trying to prove something. You ever get
somebody else, Oh well.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, that's probably more men to men, you know.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Man mean, some guy doing it to a woman, you
can break her hand. So I've had some guys shake
my hand and I'm like, what are you trying to prove?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Dude, we're shaking hands? The man thing?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
That also shows me like they've got issues, do you know.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
What I mean?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
I would think that Okay, yeah, okay, I'm curious what
do you take away if somebody doesn't shake hands or
do you pull anything else out of the handshake? It
doesn't bother Lulu, Nope, it's handshake day. That's why we're
bringing this up. That doesn't bother you at all.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Now, man, what were you saying about all this?

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Are you guys still talking about the shaking of the hand.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
You know what your thought on that.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Well, I had someone come in where I work the
other day and he'd been gone all summer and he
shook the hand of two of my coworkers and then
he said, look at my foot. And I have no
idea what he was talking about and why he said
that he had hands, foot and mouth disease.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Did he have a shoe on his foot? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
He said, I just got back from the dermatologist and
he said, look at my foot. And I didn't even look.
I just ran in the bathroom and sanitized my hands
and got out the bottle of sanitizer.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Obviously, in that situation, that's a little.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
So maybe not everybody wants to share what they have
going on.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
I understand, Lulu, But in this day.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
And age, in this day and age, you got to
give somebody.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
The benefit of the doubt.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
And if that's their phobia or if they've got something
going on, so be it.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
You can't get insulted or judge. Don't judge. It's not judge,
it's judging.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
He said. It tells a lot about their characters.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
That's a lot about their character. Well, don't judge. So
I'm not judging, I'm assessing based on that's the same thing.
Thing is that's the same thing. What's the first impression?
Is that judging? It's the feeling that you get off
of somebody.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
So my first impression is not good if someone doesn't
want to shake.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Them But they're really nice to you and they're complimentary
and their courteous matter.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
So what's your judgment on them if they don't shake
your hand?

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I think, say I was judging, what do you do
when you do a first impression?

Speaker 1 (04:20):
What are you doing? What is that? What is it?
I don't know, but you use the word judge, So
are we all judging?

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Is you're said, if somebody doesn't shake your hand, yes,
it says something about their characters.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
So what do you call it?

Speaker 3 (04:30):
It would not leave me with a good first impression
of them.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
It would not, now if.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
You because most people shake hands, and if they don't,
then then they're like, in your opinion, what are they
if they don't shake your hand.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
I'm not going to call them a name, okay, but
what what's the impression? It's not a good first impression
in what regard. I'm on the witness stand right now. Goodness,
you can step down now.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Judge appreciated Judge, Lulu, do you you have a thought
of this?

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Hopefully I'm getting the inquisition and you won't. From Lulu,
what do you think here?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
I feel like I'm in an interrogation room.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
What are your thoughts when that comes up? I'm kind
of old school, yeah, in a lot of ways. And
what did you say, ma'am?

Speaker 5 (05:17):
I agree with Maverick this morning.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
So you think it's odd when someone doesn't shake hands?

Speaker 6 (05:21):
Yes, I was raised in the South, and I raised
two young men and they were raised to shake their hands.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
I get that, and so were my brothers, and we
all do. But as people grow up too, maybe they
develop some other phobias or.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Something, you know, that they can't help.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
I get it. It seems like the right thing to do.
But if you can't, I'm not gonna I'm not. It's
not gonna bother me, that's all.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
It's rude, especially if they don't offer an alternative, like
a side hug or a fist bump. If they do
something like that quickly, then I don't even think about it.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Yeah, do you know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Because I do know people have germ issues or phobias
as you called it. I understand that, but some people
don't offer anything, and I'm like, that's kind of odd.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
You don't think that's odd.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I didn't say I didn't think it was totally odd.
I mean, but it doesn't bother me. I might think
about it. But there's worse things people could be.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
You never thought too.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
So if somebody doesn't offer anything, do you ever think
do they have something or they're afraid of get in something?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Thank you, ma'am. What do you think about this?

Speaker 3 (06:29):
For the fist bump, I'll do that too, but I
do find it weird. Is somebody they don't want to
do any of that? Now, sir, you said there's a
reason for this.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Is that right?

Speaker 5 (06:37):
I might got to be careful of touching people's fans.
Don't let it bowler out there?

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Are you worried about getting me bola?

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Oh man, I'm scarting that nonsense.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Man's going everywhere. You're everywhere or it's everywhere? Oh boler man,
I'm telling you ot. Are you going to be in
Africa anytime soon?

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Oh no not, it's not my scheduling.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
I think you're gonna be all right. Then.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
I think so too.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
I mean, you're getting makes the strugger right now.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
But I'm telling you what, you gotta be cares whose
hands you touch.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
At least, I'm not little knuckles.

Speaker 7 (07:11):
Tap every once in a while, you ain't gotta put
your hands on them, though, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
So you would prefer the fist bump or maybe even
the elbow?

Speaker 1 (07:18):
What about the elbow, rub Man, I'll.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Tell you what, Rubbing the elbow is not every.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Once in a while, I guess. So what if somebody
gave you the elbow. I'm not going to be rude.
Would you bang your elbow with their elbow?

Speaker 7 (07:33):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Oh? What does you think about this? Now?

Speaker 7 (07:40):
Sir?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
You've met some celebrities musicians, is that right?

Speaker 1 (07:43):
You wanted to talk about that?

Speaker 7 (07:45):
Well, in West Palm Beach when I met actually Eric
Johnson the guitar player, and I met Ian Anderson, and
neither one of them would shake people's hands. They were
they were kind of germophobes, like Howie Mandel, same thing,
very germophobic. They would off for either a fifth bump
or or like rub elbows like they used to do.
Need all the knaves rub elbows with the with the
royalty where to God, that was their their way of

(08:10):
contact without actually physically touching you.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Maybe next time an attractive woman wants to shake my hand,
I'll see if she'll let me rub her elbow, you know, not.

Speaker 7 (08:19):
With your hand you free.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
I was thinking about serv that's a good idea. There
you go, instead of her elbow with my elbow. I
just caressed her elbow. She might go running though. That's
such a great idea. O geez, let me know how
that works out.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Lulu is okay with a side hug. Yeah, I find
it stranger people don't shake hands.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Everyone has a reason if they're not doing it. Now
you had a thought on this, ma'am.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Hi, I was just gonna comment on the preferred method
of pancake are hugging? Yeah, and I actually work in dermatology.
When they mentioned, you know, germs and stuff, it creeps
me out to hug people because there are so many
things that you can get from people's clothing.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
All right, So let's talk about this.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Because Lulu prefers the side hark versus the handshake.

Speaker 6 (09:20):
No, I would prefer to handshake them any day and
have some hand sanitizer ready. Instantly, rather than hug somebody
who can carry essentially little dud bugs or scabies or
anything on their clothing that just will jump right onto
your clothing latch on, and you just brought them into

(09:40):
your own home. Now you have to, you know, have
this huge exterminator bell coming in, get rid of your bedding,
get rid of your mattress, your couches.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Oh no, So when you put it like that, yeah,
the side hug Lulu instead of the handshake, and then
they have their scabies jumping on.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Guess what, I'm just gonna wave people off the line.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
I'm not hurry, I gotta go. Loulis got scabies.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
Like you, start itching constantly, you know why?

Speaker 1 (10:23):
So you handshake.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
I would prefer to handshake and then.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Quickly hand sanitize.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
You got it.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
It's I'm doing the wave off, the wave off.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Wave off. The scaby thing freaks out. I didn't even
think about that until she said it. It didn't come
on my mind.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Next time somebody listening to the show, give somebody a
side hug, they're gonna be thinking, are the scabies jumping
on me?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Made think you you got to comment on all this,
ma'am calling about.

Speaker 5 (10:59):
The hand shaking. They could have a week immune system
or something like that. So it's not about being rude.
It just could be something that they have going on.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
I completely understand that.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
However, the last time it happened, lou and I were
together in this room, somebody came in here and refused
to shake our hands. We stuck our hand out upon
meeting them. And I will tell you, whatever that person's
deal was, I thought a little less of them. I thought, oh, well,
they're kind of stuck on themselves, and.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I think they have to change the way we look
at this. No necessarily that that's true, I think.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
So I'll tell you that our church during flu season
every year, will tell the congregation not to shake hands
during flu season.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Okay, well let's say I don't want to shake hands,
and I'll take your guys' advice.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
We don't want to do it anymore.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Okay, Okay, can I just do a little like, you know,
because I'm a big football fan. Can I just smack
them on the bottom upon meeting them?

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Sure? Why not?

Speaker 1 (11:47):
You get a hand?

Speaker 2 (11:47):
All right? Might get face, don't get a hand, saying
that's not a good idea.
