Speaker 1 (00:00):
I was reading this. A third of people say ringing
the doorbell is intrusive. Just ringing the doorbell. I don't
know if that's intrusive. Well in terms of if you're
going to stop by and see somebody instead of calling
them first, or oh, you.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Mean you're arriving, they don't know you're coming over and
you just ring the doorbell.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yeah, yeah, I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
If I know you're coming over and you ring the doorbell,
there's no issue. But I want to know someone's coming
over and not just popping into.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, interesting about this is an unannounced visit, I guess
is what we would call it. Yeah, you know, recently,
I was in an area where I'm not very often
and one of my best friend's parents lives there, and
I'm rarely near their house. Yeah, I just pop by
to see if they were home. Why. Well, they're older
(00:48):
and we just have a great relationship, so I wanted
to say hi. It's not one of those things that
I would make a trip to go see them, but
I was doing something else in that area where they're
like forty minutes from me, and I literally was going
to drive by. There's like a main street and then
their houses kind of spiders off that I'm just literally
going to drive by their house and I'm like, well,
may just see if they're home. Why don't you call first?
(01:11):
What do you mean if they're in the.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Middle of something or don't feel like Kevin guests maybe
don't feel it up to it.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
They don't feel up to it, that's fine. If they
don't answer the door, if something's not right right, why not.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Just call ahead, call ahead in the neighborhood. Hey, thanks
for thinking of us, but I'm not up to it today.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
I mean, how do you know visit?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
No, yes, I'm surprised me with a visit.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
I thoughtful. No, I was thinking of the Okay, so
call them inconvenience to myself. I didn't have to stop.
I could have drove on by.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Listen, you got a call first, You could say, hey,
you don't have to call, Yes, you do. I think
it's the polite thing to do is to call ahead people.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
At the door and visit people all the time. You're going,
what are you going back to?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I don't even know when twenty years maybe more than that.
People don't really really appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
No, that's the wrong way to look at it is okay.
Where are you on unannounced visits? This is somebody you
know maybe you don't see that often. Is it okay?
You just stop by to say hi, Like, if they're
not available, I get it. I'm not gonna be mad.
Can't you call ahead?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
I don't understand why you just want to go to
the door and go Hi, I'm here.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Just call ahead? Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:23):
What do you think that everybody's ready to receive company
at the top of the head.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
I was okay if they weren't home or they're like, hey,
we're not feeling great, totally understand.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
He's opening the door because you stop by to be nice.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
They're like, oh my god, it's Maverick. Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
He didn't tell us, but he did stop by. We
should open the door. I'm just making a case and
I'm okay with that.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Then we get to catch up. You should have You
should have called first. You don't have to call first.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, maybe they would have liked to brush their hair,
throw something different on or whatever.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
You shouldn't show up unannounced. What do you think about this? Ma'am?
You had a comment Hello, good morning morning.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I agree with Lulu to a point, But if I
text you, and I call you, and you don't text
or call me back.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I full dropped in you will. That's interesting. So she's
giving you the heads up, but she's already either in
the neighborhood or going by, and mine's made up.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I'm coming over, right, If you're not answering your phone,
I'm sure nothing's wrong with you.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Oh she's being nice. Maybe you're having an episode or something.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Right, Well, I will tell you this that I can
see if it's somebody that doesn't return the call within
a certain amount of time. However, it's not always the
case that someone's having an episode or something. But with
giving it in a certain amount of time, then you
might want to check on a friend if you know
they're alone, but.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Just to pop over. I just don't get it. Well,
what happened though? What happened? We used to pop by friend?
People used to have cakes on standby, or bagels or donuts,
and people stop by. What are you talking about? In
case you have company?
Speaker 4 (03:59):
You make up?
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Sometimes you were just in case somebody keep a cake
in case, Yes, I mean I got extra beer in
my fridge in case somebody stops by. Well, I got
some extra beer too, that's in case I need it.
You got a thought on this? Where are you an
(04:20):
unannounced visits? Now the parameters for this is somebody you
know well, but you don't see that often.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Oh, even more reason to give heads up. That was
really well intentioned of you. But I find it to
be rude to show up unannounced.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
I feel like that's something we did back in the
day and we've lost that. And I think the fact
that you think that's rude is sad.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
It's not sad, it's right. People don't always want people
coming over. You don't know what they have going on
in their life in the house, how they're dressed, or
anything to hear knack knack call ahead.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
I think that's the right thing to do. What do
you think about this? Uh?
Speaker 5 (04:56):
Hello, Hey, good morning guys. I was listening to you
guys talking about un and ounced stop bys.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
What do you think.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
I don't think that's necessary anymore. Everybody's got a cell phone.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Right, I don't think it's necessary. It's not. Well, that's
so friendly.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
You didn't say you can't Texas say I have come along.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
This guy's making a great place.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
I'm with Lulu on this, for you know, if you
want to stop by, give me a call, tell me
you're in the neighborhood. And if I don't answer my phone,
that means don't stop by.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Amen. Here's the thing we need to live our lives like.
We don't have cell phones sometimes not mean because cell
phones has ruined a lot of things. No, it's coming
handy and it's saved a lot of things too. It's
ruined a lot off.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
No, I think cell phones are more for the better
than not, especially in sticky situations or when you feel
unsafe or something.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
That's what I'm talking about. An unannounced visit. Being called
rude is not good. It's the truth. Though, What do
you think this is? Somebody you know? It's not like
a stranger, doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Hello, Yeah, I'm calling them up that stopping buy unannounced?
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Sure? Who's this? Elle? L? Where are you calling from Sarasota?
What do you think? So?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I'm up both mindset. My friends all know I have
an open door always.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
But we like to give each other like a three
or four minute heads up so you can put on pants.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I mean the heads up, but I will.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
Totally as I'm pulling into the neighborhood, be like I'm
in I'm in the area.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Hey I'm coming over.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
I should send a text, Hey, I'm in the neighborhood.
Is just gonna swing by, But.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
I also have friends who are I'll walk right in
the front door.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, you sound like you're very lovely, but I don't
know that we could be friends now.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Unless you tell me you're coming first.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
Our whole friend group is like that.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
I feel like if you've got a tight circle or
you're close, it's not a big deal.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
You can't just drop in, though, yes it is. You
have to give a heads up. Can't just be because
you're ready to say hello. Maybe your friend is not.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
My friends would have no problem when I give you
the three minute one and to be in like it's not.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
A good time. Yeah, it's polite to give them the
heads up.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
It's not a good time.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
My friends will all tell me.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
But not that we're staying forever.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Right, You have to be ready if someone's coming in.
It's not how long you're staying for. What the point
is not going to see and biscuits out. Look, it
doesn't matter. We have to be dressed. It's not like
I'm gonna say, Elle, I can't believe you don't have
triskets and cheese for me.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
In my friend group, we've all seen each other at
our chaos.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
So it's nothing surprised at all. I love you, l
Thank you for calling.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yeah, thank you you too, Thanks for listening. She did
say give the heads up, though, there's nothing wrong with
giving the heads up.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I know, but I'm driving down the road and I'm like,
you know what, I'm driving by the house. Let me
just swing in. Yeah, because you felt like it.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Doesn't mean they feel like opening the door and going
come on in.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
They didn't have a lot. I wouldn't have been upset
if they didn't open the door.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Okay, I understand that, but it doesn't matter. It might
have been nicer for them had they had the heads
up and they would have opened it.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
If they didn't open.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Up the door, there was a reason they gave them
the heads up.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Maybe they would have been prepared for you. What do
you think about unannounced visits? And again, I'm not talking
about doing this all the time. This is an occasional thing,
and I was in a part of town where I'm
not very often. It does I think it does? Heads up?
They know I live far from them, so it was appreciated.
I understand the intention.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Is great, but why can't you just take it one
little step further, going, Yeah, I'm in the neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Why can't you pretend it's nineteen eighty five and we're
friendly because of cell phones? No, I want the heads
What do you think about the unannounced visits? Hello? Good morning?
Everick is super good? Sue and Venice? What's on your mind?
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Well, I'm kind of like in the middle with this one.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
I'm like you.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
When I'm visiting my hometown, I like to just drop by.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
And see people.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
But it's not always welcome.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
But that's okay. Here's the thing. If I'm just driving
by somebody's house and this happens occasionally, I may swing in.
If they're not there or not available. I'm not going
to get mad or upset. My thought is I'm thinking
of them, haven't seen them in a while. I want
to let them know I'm thinking of them, and the
fact that I'm there and they know where I live
(09:41):
and I'm nowhere near where they are.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
It felt like doing it, but that be a little
bit more thoughtful and say heads up, Hi, I'm.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
In the area.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
I'm sorry, that's not that's not that is now a
good time?
Speaker 1 (09:53):
That's not more thoughtful to I disagree, Sue. What do
you think?
Speaker 5 (09:57):
I think that Lulu was also right that we can
get people a heads up.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
I'm around, I'm thinking about stopping by, and then they'll
let you know if it's a good time or not.
I always see people post stuff online about oh, the
good old days and that this is the good old days.
We did that in the good old days, we did
we checked on yes, so true, yes we did. Okay,
so the good old days are gone. God breaking news,
(10:30):
breaking news.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
Unfortunately they are.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yeah, Sue, we love you. Thanks for calling.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Okay, I love you too.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Okay, where are you on the unannounced visit? Now? That's again,
this is somebody you know. This isn't like a random
person you don't really, I mean somebody have a relationship with.
What did you want to say.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Something about your question?
Speaker 3 (10:55):
And if you should just drop by visit? I think
it really depends on how close of a relationship you
have to the person. My best friend she is fine
with me just coming buying anytime if I'm just in
her area. But other people that I'm not that close with,
I would never just stop buy.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah, I'm the same way. It's I wouldn't do that
with everybody I know, but certain people that I've known
for twenty or twenty five years or longer, that's a
different story. They're kind of like almost second family family.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, if you had that close of a relationship, most
people don't care if you just stop buy. Like our grandparents,
you know, we never called them. We would just go
by and just actually just go in their house. And
that's the way it was.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
You know, I get it with that byrd parents.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Yeah, well I grandparents, Now you wouldn't do that, but yeah,
that was the way it was.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yeah, No, I totally get that.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
I mean, even with my sister, who I'm with her
all the time, I'd be like, hey, headed your way
because she sometimes I'm just getting in the shower. But
you know what I mean, it's just kind of a
heads up. I don't have to say, hey, can I
come over?
Speaker 1 (12:06):
The heads up for what though, You're you're just stopping
to say hello, You're not expecting dinner or anything. I'm
coming to my sister's house and expecting dinner.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Some people they appreciate that, but I don't mind if
anyone just stopped them you know my hose.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Yeah, I don't mind if anybody stops by mine either.
You know, if I'm not there, I'm not there. And
if if you're driving by, I would love to see you.
Like I mean, I think that is a huge compliment
when someone is thinking enough to want to take time.
You got to remember the whole concept of an unannounced
visitor is I was doing something else. I'm in your area,
(12:43):
I'm not there a lot. I'm taking my own inconvenience
to stop at your house to check on you. I mean,
that's a huge compliment, and we're flipping it around.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
You felt like stopping over, then it doesn't mean that
they're ready to receive anybody.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
You felt like stop. You're not ready to receive anybody.
You might not be. You're too formal.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
You got other plans in your back to fugue.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
It's being considerate. They could be planning on leaving, but
now you'll take considerate thinking of someone and taking time
to stop on.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yes, but give them a heads up you're on your way.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
I'm all for it. I'm all for it.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
I understand both sides.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
You're a great Thank you. You love that you called
call anytime.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Thank you, sorry, thank you, kay by.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Thank you, ma'am. She's sweet. Think we scared her?
Speaker 4 (13:40):
All right?
Speaker 1 (13:40):
All right, already we don't agree on this. Man, Okay,
what do you think about this? I'm the friendly one
that wants to see you.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Doesn't want to see you, true, I want to heads up,
that's all.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Hello, Hi, I wanted to make a comment about people
dropping by.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Yes or no, Yes, they can.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Drop by anytime.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
My door is always open, so is mine? Not mine?
Speaker 6 (14:08):
I think it's a situation as to how you grew up.
I grew up with a family with where the door's
always open. Friends and family would drop in or do whatever,
and we entertain it's just an open you know, it's
an open door policy.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yes, that's the problem with the world now. Everybody is
so isolated. That's the only thing that's got going for it.
Speaker 6 (14:36):
People who are prim and proper, maybe they want advanced
notice or something. Maybe they want to fix their hair
or someone I don't know, but live in a neighborhood,
or if you grew up in a neighborhood where you
had friends around, people just drop by and further have
a cup of coffee or a beer or whatever. The
case may be, it's just always been that way with us.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Well, to be honest, I did grow up that way.
There were six kids in our family.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
But what happened to you? When did you become cold?
I got sick of it. I like my privacy. You
got sick of being friendly? No, it's I want to
be friendly when I'm in the mood. I mean when
you get home. Really the mood always to be friendly.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Well, you get home, that's your space site, you know.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
I like me time. Don't check on Lulu. She's good
