Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's do it. We are going.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Graham in the Morning starts now on 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Morning, Cat Country. It's your boy, Graham in the Morning.
All right. I got into the office this morning and
got some good news. Now, multiple times a day. 9
o'clock right here on Gram in the mornings, then 1
o'clock and 5 o'clock throughout the day on 96.9 The Cat.
We're giving you an opportunity to win your way into
that iHeartRadio Music Festival out in Las Vegas. Not only
are we going to give you entry into the festival,
(00:29):
but we're taking care of the plane tickets. We're taking
care of the hotel stay, and we're giving you $ 1, 000
walking around money. Well, this morning, the Smashing Pumpkins and
Stella Lefty were added to a loaded list of performers.
I mean, Kenny Chesney is already slated to perform. Laney Wilson,
Major Lazer, Goo Goo Dolls. Speaking of Major Lazer, I mean,
you can't go to Vegas and not get a little
(00:49):
Major Lazer. You know what I'm saying? But reminder, you
got multiple chances to win. Nine o'clock, your first opportunity
right here on Graham in the Mornings. And we're rolling.
Let 96.9 the cat hear you.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
It's time to sound off cat country with Graham in
the mornings.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
When telling someone you love them, is there an acceptable
way of doing it or unacceptable way of doing it?
For example, producer Hunter, you're in a new relationship. You
have recently told the young lady you're dating that you
love her. Yes, I did. And I said it face
to face.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
And she also said it face to face. But then
you told me that she wrote you a letter. She did.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
She wrote me this nice, really sweet letter just kind
of explaining how she felt about me.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Amazing. It was awesome. She did not say that she
loved me in the letter. Okay. It's just how I
reacted to it. Then she said it right back to me. Okay.
Are you going to let me read the letter? Just kidding.
It is at home. It's pretty personal. Probably not. No,
you don't have to, for sure. And I wouldn't want
to read that. I think that's very special. But it
got me to thinking, are there... We'll just say unacceptable,
(01:52):
because I definitely think it's widely accepted that if you
tell someone face-to-face, of course, that's the best way. You
get to be right there and you tell them. Yeah.
But like... Could you text it? Does that like throw
it out the window? Are there unacceptable forms of saying
I love you? I would have never texted it to her.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
I would have never done that.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I don't think she would have done that to me either. Agreed.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
But do you believe that in some cases that is acceptable?
Because we're not the end all be all. Yeah, we're
not the end all be all. For the first time.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
My advice, not that I should be giving advice, don't
shoot it over text the first time.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Got it. Maybe not. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
1-800-570-9690.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Here's the sound off. Are there any unacceptable ways to
tell someone for the first time? We'll keep it with
the first time.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
That you love them give us a call phone lines
are open during the show you can leave us a
talk back at any point in time we will put
you on gram in the mornings sound off unacceptable ways
to tell someone you love gram in the morning special
shout out to my neighbor's son braden yesterday he got
off the school bus and as he was walking home
He walked past my truck. I was in the driveway
working on my engine, probably making it way worse than
(03:00):
it was. Then as he passed, I just asked him, hey,
did you have a good day at school today? And
he said he did. I heard a new joke. Do
you want to hear it? And I said, of course.
Hit me. Why did the teddy bear say no to dessert?
I froze. I had no idea. And then he said
because he was stuffed. And the kicker was not that
the joke is funny. But he got such enjoyment out
of delivering the punchline. He was belly laughing that it
(03:22):
just warmed my heart. And it got me to thinking,
we need more kid jokes. So submit your best kid
joke here at Gram of the Mornings via the iHeartRadio app.
As a talkback, we're going to pick the best one,
or maybe we feature a few, and we're going to
highlight them on Fridays. It's 96.9. We need your kid jokes.
Time for Did You Know? With Graham in the mornings
(03:42):
on 96.9 The Cat. You can thank a melted candy
bar for the invention of the microwave. So back in 1945,
an engineer named Percy Spencer was working with radar equipment
when he noticed something strange. A chocolate candy bar that
I guess he had in his pocket had melted while
he was standing near a device called a magnetron, which
produces microwave energy. So he got kind of curious. He
(04:05):
started to experiment. First, he tried a popcorn kernel, which popped.
Then he tried an egg, which actually exploded. And he
realized that microwave energy could cook food. So a few
years later, the first microwave hits the market, but it
wasn't so micro. It was like six feet tall. It
weighed hundreds of pounds and cost thousands of dollars. So
not exactly something you put in your kitchen. But over time,
(04:25):
technology shrank, prices dropped. And today, one of the most
common appliances in all of our homes So the next
time you reheat leftovers in like 30 seconds, you can
thank a melted candy bar for helping inspire the microwave oven.
And that's Did You Know on 96.9 The Cat. Coming up,
we're giving away a family four-pack Disney on ice 730
cat fight. It's Graham in the mornings. the Carolinas talking
(04:48):
about today.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
It's your top three on Graham in the Mornings.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
On 96.9 The Cat. Couldn't be more proud of the
North Carolina legislature makers because North Carolina's new budget includes
teacher pay raises this year with some of the biggest
increases going to newer teachers just getting started in the classroom.
Speaking of teachers and busy schedules, if you've got any
travel plans coming up, Charlotte Douglas is about to get
real packed. Now, I know I'm not reinventing the wheel,
(05:13):
and you're like, yeah, and the sun's going to come
up today. But Labor Day weekend, just a reminder, it
is coming up this week. They're looking at roughly one
million expected travelers to pass through the airport from Thursday
to Monday. So not to beat a dead horse, but
if you're headed that way, plan accordingly. And Tennessee football,
which kicks off their season Saturday. I am not a
Tennessee football fan. But after hearing this next story, that
(05:35):
could change. They have announced that they're going to wear
a special Dolly Parton sticker on the helmet all season long.
The butterfly design is a tribute to Dolly and her
East Tennessee roots. And honestly, I don't really watch Tennessee football,
but I will this season. And that's your top three
on 96.9 The Cat. Disney on ice. Family four pack
coming up. 730 Cat Fight. It's Graham in the mornings.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
It's time for Cat.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
With Graham in the Mornings. 96.9 The Cat. This is
Graham in the Mornings. You're calling number nine. Who we
got on the cat phone? Hannah. Hannah, where are you
calling in from? Lancaster. Well, Hannah, how would you like
to win a family four pack for Disney on Ice?
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah!
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Well, you've done the hard work. Now you just got
to get two out of three. I'm going to give
you three opportunities. You only need two correct answers. Random
trivia in honor of today being September 1st. All of
the trivia questions revolve around things that come first. Okay.
You ready? Yeah. Which state was the first to join
the United States? Was it Delaware or Virginia? This state
(06:39):
calls itself the first state, and it begins with the
letter D. Delaware? Delaware's correct. One for one. See, you
learned something new. It's informative and educational here at Graham
in the Mornings. Who was the first president of the
United States and they're on the $ 1 bill? George Washington.
(06:59):
And you know what? The last question is, who are
you taking to Disney on Ice? Because you're a big
winner today. My mom and my two little sisters. Let's go.
Hannah from Lancaster, congratulations. Thank you. Sound off 1-800-570-9690. Irish goodbyes.
Leaving without telling anybody in a social setting. Is that rude?
(07:23):
How do you handle it? Is it socially acceptable? Do
you owe anyone a goodbye?
Speaker 4 (07:27):
1-800-570-9690.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Phone lines are open or leave us a talk back
at any point in time on the free iHeartRadio app.
We'll throw you on Graham in the mornings. 96 minutes.
Nonstop Cat Country rolls on. unacceptable ways to tell someone
you love them for the first time what do you
mean unacceptable sound off and if you don't recognize that
(07:49):
voice it is our good friend but also our boss
ashley from 96.9 the cat so hunter i don't know
if you are privy to this just came clean today
and said that he and his girlfriend have said the
love word to one another that's.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Right the old l word we've used it Young love.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Were you familiar? Did you know this?
Speaker 3 (08:05):
No.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I didn't either. So we got our new season of
life here. Breaking news. So do you want to share
how it happened? Because our good friend Ashley doesn't know
how it happened.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yeah, so Bethany wrote me this really sweet note confessing
just how she feels about me. And she didn't say
that she loved me in the note. But I just
felt like the only way I could respond to it,
like really how I truly felt, was just saying like,
I love you so much. And then, of course, she
reciprocated it right back to me.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Our boss is melting through time. She told me immediately
right back to her. She felt it.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
She just didn't know how to express it to me.
We just got it out there. Throwing it out there.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
So note acceptable, right? The note is acceptable. Yes, a note.
I think that's totally acceptable. Okay, so what's unacceptable? Because
the reason that it's worded that way is I think
universally everyone would accept face-to-face acceptable. Notes, handwritten letters, takes effort, acceptable.
But where does that line stop?
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I would not like it if it came over a text.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
And what about a phone call?
Speaker 3 (09:01):
A phone call is fine because what if you're in
a long distance relationship with someone or maybe you don't
see them every day, maybe you talk to them on
the phone a lot. I feel like the phone is okay.
But text, email, that just feels so informal.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
So that's great perspective because initially I would have never thought,
which no shocker, that phone calls would be okay. But
long distance relationship, I guess context definitely matters at all times.
That's a good perspective.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
What if they, like, texted I-L-Y?
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Oh, my goodness. What is that? One, two, three, four.
Another layer.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
One, four, three. One, four, three.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Is that what it is? Another layer to that is
how you say it, I guess.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
And was the appropriately verbiage, I love you, Producer Hunter?
Speaker 4 (09:44):
I mean, if someone texted me I-L-Y for the first time,
I'm probably blocking them.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Thank goodness it wasn't like that.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
But no, it was straight up. I love you. That
was it. Okay. Very good perspective. Sound off. Phone lines
are open all the time here during the show. 1-800-570-9690.
You can leave us a talk back at any time.
It's that red microphone icon in the upper right-hand corner
at your convenience. We'll put you on Graham in the
Morning's unacceptable ways of telling someone you love them. It's 96.9

were going to get this immediately. So if you don't,
I'm going to be a little disappointed.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Well, you might be a little disappointed because immediately I
don't have it quite yet.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Okay. So if you break it down a little bit,
what do a comb and a zipper have in common?
Speaker 4 (11:02):
They both have, I mean, all of them have teeth.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
All of them have teeth. Is that it? That's it. Oh,

Time for some good news with Graham in the mornings.
(11:46):
I need some good news.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
On 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
As we continue to honor and celebrate the legacy that
Dolly Parton left behind, we're going to shed some light
on her imagination library. So it's delivered nearly 25 million
free books to children across North Carolina and more than 240,000
kids are currently receiving free books in the mail every month.
And that includes roughly 40,000 children right here in Mecklenburg County.
So Dolly Parton making an impact in our communities in
(12:14):
a big way. And that's your good news on 96.9
The Cat. Coming up, 9 o'clock, your chance to pick
up tickets to Vegas, hotel stays in Vegas, and $ 1, 000
walking around money when you win your way into the
iHeartRadio Music Festival. You just got to keep it locked
right here on Gram in the Mornings and listen for
the keyword. 9 o'clock. Good luck. 96.9 The Cat. Do
(12:37):
we have one of those breaking news? I could get one.
What's the breaking news? Well, you know what the breaking
news is. Oh, are we going to talk about this? Yes. Oh, okay. Yeah.
One of my favorite things about working here at 96.9
The Cat is I get to come into work and
pal around with one of my closest buddies in all
of Charlotte. We have a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
We do.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
And Producer Hunter, we do life together. We, hey, man,
how was your weekend? Like, what's going on with you?
We start sharing stories. Casually drops that he is now
in a relationship. We know that. But that relationship has
taken a giant step forward. That's right.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
I think you asked me if we had said the
L word.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I did ask that. I'm going to give you the
floor now because we're a family here.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Cat Country, we talk about it all the time. We're
doing life with Cat Country. You and I are doing
life together. We come in and we hang out every day.
This is a pretty big moment in your life.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Yeah, because we did say that we love each other.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Nice. We did, yeah. And how many relationships have you
been in that you have shared with someone that you
were in love with them? She was the first one.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
First time I've ever said that, yes. Okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Well, I mean, that's a big deal. It's a big deal, yeah.
So did something happen where you thought, or was it
a gradual realization that you were there?
Speaker 4 (13:46):
It was a gradual realization. We had dated for over
two months before I ever said it. I knew how
I felt, but it just took me a little bit
to finally, I guess, blurt it out and just.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Tell her how I was feeling, and it was great.
And how was it received?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Received?
Speaker 1 (14:00):
It was received very well. Was it?
Speaker 4 (14:02):
It was.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
All right.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
Well, how did you do it? I did it.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
We were just sitting there, just hanging out together, talking
about us, our relationship.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Very adult, mature sharing feelings. Very adult, mature stuff, yes.
I can learn from you.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
And, you know, I just got to the point where
the only way I could describe how I felt about
her was just by saying.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
That I loved her. So you told her to her face?
I did, right to her face.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
And did she say it right back? She said it
right back.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Oh, man.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Yes, right back. Doing life with Producer Hunter. Love is
in the air. It's in the air, yes. Don't you
think we need a breakthrough news thing now? I think
I can get one. Yeah, we need a breakthrough news thing.
A little ticker. It's 96.9 to cat gray over the mornings.
Acceptable ways of telling someone you love them. Producer Hunter's
in love. Sound off. I am in love, and.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
I said it face-to-face, not over text, definitely not over email,
nothing like that.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
It was face-to-face. We had our friend Ashley in here earlier, though.
She said the phone is fine.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
The phone I can get behind very much depends on
the situation, I think.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
I would have lost that bet, though. I would have
lost that bet. I would have thought no on the phone.
But she kind of changed my mind. Yeah, she did me, too,
to be honest with you. But I'm still face-to-face. Sound
off unacceptable ways to tell someone that you love them
because it's widely acceptable that you tell them face-to-face. We
got Doyle out of Taylorsville. Sound off, bud.
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Good.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Good morning, 96.9, the cat.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
This is Dol calling in from Taylorsville.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
And just to put my two cents worth in, I
don't think it's ever acceptable for the first time to
tell somebody you love them over the phone, over text,
over anything except for face-to-face. That way you can see
their reaction. And you can really tell if they love
you back or if they're just saying it. That's my
two cents, and I listen to 96.9 all day, every day.
