Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's do it. We are home.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Graham in the Morning starts now on 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Good morning, Cat Country.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
I don't think that there is a correct way to
start the show today, but obviously we are. Dealing with
a major loss yesterday in country music, Dolly Parton lost
her battle with cancer. Country music has lost one of
its brightest lights. But the truth is, I mean, Dolly
Parton became so much bigger than country music. She was
so many things, an icon, a trailblazer, a force of
nature in so many different ways at a time where
(00:32):
women were still fighting for a seat at the table
in business and in industry. Dolly didn't just earn a place,
she built her own table. She became the business, she
became the industry, a global brand, all while never losing
the warmth, the humility, the kindness, the unmistakable spirit, and
a sense of humor that still resonates today. So through
her music, her philanthropy, her imagination, and the countless lives
(00:54):
that she touched, Dolly showed generations of women, and all
of us for that matter, that there are no limits
on what you can accomplish in this lifetime. She proved
that strength and compassion can exist side by side. Her
voice may be quiet now, but her impact will never be.
She will be deeply missed, but she will never, ever
be forgotten. So we are going to have some fun today.
(01:14):
We are going to play some Dolly Parton music because
Dolly would want that.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
But we pay our respects. We pay our tribute.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
And anyone that is touched by cancer and anyone's family
that has been touched by cancer, we are thinking of
you as well.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
It's 96.9 The Cat. You're hanging out with Graham in
the mornings. And we're rolling. Let 96.9 The Cat hear you.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
It's time to sound off, Cat Country, with Graham in
the mornings.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
How many dates in do the ladies pay sound off?
Speaker 4 (01:42):
With my girlfriend, it was about date five.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Hold on, hold on. Your microphone was breaking up. Say
that again. That's right.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
With my girlfriend now, it was date five that she
ended up paying.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Sorry, ladies. He's off the market.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
That's right. I am off the market. I paid for
every date up to that point. Very happily did. And
I was willing to keep paying. But she sat me
down and was like, hey, I'm willing to pay every
now and.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Then if you would like. And I'm like, sure. You
said fourth or fifth? Yeah, it was the fifth date.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Now, did y'all have a conversation about it? We did
have a conversation about it. Okay, did you bring it
up or did she bring it up?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
She brought it up. Oh, amazing.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Yeah, she brought it up and said, hey, I'm more
than willing to pay for any date. I want to
pay for this one. And I was like, sure, if
you would like.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Absolutely. Did it factor into your thinking at all?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
It didn't.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
No.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, I was happy.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
I mean, if she wants to pay, I'll let her pay,
but I'm always more than happy to do it myself.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
That sounds very reasonable.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, it was. Now, will you say it's a cycle,
so every fourth or fifth date, so maybe you pay
for eight and she pays for two?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
We really don't have a rhyme or a reason. Every
now and then, she'll say, I got it.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Circle back to me in a year. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Right so like there's not really a certain number i
think that we switch off it's just sometimes she pays
sometimes i do now.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah great way to approach it very nice.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Gesture and that you didn't have to bring it up
which you know at that point i'm sure you didn't
even care probably wouldn't even factoring in but how many
dates in before you let the ladies pay 1-800-570-9690 we
want to hear from.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Everyone oh yeah sound off.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
What's the Carolinas talking about today? It's your top three
on Graham in the Mornings.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
On 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Can we all agree that life is getting crazy expensive,
so we got to celebrate the wins where we can
get them. And as someone who is a new homeowner,
reading this story warms my heart for anyone that's looking
for a home. Mortgage rates. They are trending lower. They're
giving some homebuyers a little more breathing room as we
head toward the fall housing season. And that's not the
(03:36):
only thing that's trending in the right direction. If you're
hitting the road, gas prices still running lower than they
were this time last year and just in time for
Labor Day travel, which no matter what you're doing, saving
money is a good thing. And finally, we will be
remembering all day long and all week long, for that matter,
a true American icon this morning. Dolly Parton passed away
(03:58):
yesterday at the age of 80 after a brief.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Battle with cancer.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
She wasn't just one of the biggest names in country music.
She became a business powerhouse, a philanthropist, an inspiration to generations.
Dolly will be missed, but she will never be forgotten.
And that's your top three on 96.9 The Cats. Coming up,
we do have George Burge passes to give away 730
Cat Fight.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Keep us locked. It's Graham in the mornings. It's time
for Cat Fight. With Graham in the mornings. Jerry out
of Lowell. Lindsey out of Charlotte. Good morning. Welcome to
Graham in the mornings.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Good morning.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
All right, we got George Burge passes on the line.
You need two out of three to win. And today
we are celebrating the icon that is and will forever
be One of the most legendary people in country music,
Dolly Parton.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Oh, yes. Absolute legend. All of our questions rhyme with Dolly.
That's the theme. The answers rhyme with Dolly. All right.
Let's go. Santa Claus is often described as this.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Jerry. Jerry.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Jolly. Jolly is correct. Jolly. That's right. That's right.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
This is the hard one.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
I should have started out with this one. Jerry off
the top rope quick. If something is foolish, it can
be called a.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
It's a tough one. That is a tough one. You
got to make some of these challenging. I'm trying to
see if I know this one.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Granted, all of the answers rhyme with dolly.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
We were looking for folly.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Looking for folly. You got to have one hard one.
That's right. And we learned something new today.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
A wheeled cart is something you might use to carry
luggage or maybe ride.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Jerry for the win.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Trolley.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Trolley's correct.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yep, there you go.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Lindsay, thank you so much for playing.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Thank you. You're very welcome. We're going to get you
to something in the future. But Jerry, we're definitely getting
you to George Burge.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Awesome, thank you.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
96 minutes.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Nonstop Cat Country rolls right on along. But sound off.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Phone lines are open. 1-800-570-9690. How many dates in until you,
and I don't want to say allow, but maybe except...
your new love interest paying for you producer hunter is
dating a lovely young woman the relationship is new he
has shared that he enjoys paying for the dates but
at what point is it socially acceptable that his girlfriend
pays we're gonna discuss 1-800-570-9690 sound off producer hunter's riddle
(06:20):
challenge what tastes much better than it smells What tastes
much better than it smells? Your answer coming up in
two songs. It's Producer Hunter's Riddle Challenge, 96 minutes, nonstop
cat country. You're hanging out with Graham in the mornings.
On Graham in the Mornings, we really make you think.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
It's Producer Hunter's Riddle Challenge on 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Producer Hunter's Riddle Challenge. How are you feeling this morning,
Producer Hunter?
Speaker 4 (06:50):
I'm feeling pretty good.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
I'm ready to hear the riddle. Let's go. Right to it.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
What tastes much better than it smells is today's daily riddle. Oh, goodness.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
What tastes much better than it smells. Now, I know
what you're thinking. I can read your mind right now
that you're thinking that could be a lot of things.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Yeah, that's pretty general, but that's not a bad thing.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, we're looking for one specific answer, but I'm.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Open to other answers.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
This is probably not the actual answer, but the first
thing that popped into my head was blue cheese.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Oh, I hear people complain about blue cheese on certain
foods at restaurants when you're with someone.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Like, oh, don't get the blue cheese. I don't want
to smell that. Great answer. I didn't think of that.
I love blue cheese, too.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
The crumbles, you know, the actual dressing.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I could have it all.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah, now, like we said up front, That's not what
we're looking for, but technically that's not wrong.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Now, do you want the.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Answer that we were looking for that does check all
the boxes of this is what the riddle is?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Yeah, I'd love to hear it.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Your tongue. My tongue? Yeah, that's right, yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
The ability to taste things is greater than its ability
to smell things.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
That's true, yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
So your tongue is the answer to today's Producer Hunter's
Riddle Challenge.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Now, you can still challenge Hunter. You are going to
be giving away tickets in the future, right? That's right.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
We always have Rising Stars tickets on the line. You
can just go to the iHeartRadio app and hit that
little red microphone.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
We got one of your Rising Stars coming up and
one of my favorite country artists right now going of
any country artist.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Stay tuned. Tyler Nance coming up. It's 96 Minutes. Nonstop
Cat Country. Time for some good news with Graham in
the morning. I need some good news.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
On 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
As kids head back to school across Charlotte, Mecklenburg County,
community groups have been stepping up to make sure students
start the year out prepared. I do believe the kids
are our future, so all of these stories just warm
my heart.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
The Salvation Army.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Of Greater Charlotte recently gave away hundreds of free backpacks
filled with school supplies. They're helping local families to offset
some of the costs that come with the new school year.
And organizations like Classroom Central continue to provide free supplies
to teachers and students across the Charlotte region. So classrooms
have the resources that they need to succeed. It's just
a reminder that when Charlotte sees a need, the community
(09:01):
has always shown up and they have a way of
helping out. And I love that. That is your good
news on 96.9 The Cat. And again, if you have
some good news, we would love to celebrate with you.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Open up the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Tap that red microphone icon in the upper right-hand corner.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Give us your good news. We'll throw you on Graham
in the mornings.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
96 minutes, nonstop cat country. Now we are hopping into
the icon.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
That is Dolly Parton as we celebrate her life.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
One of my favorite stories involves Dolly Parton writing one
of two of the greatest country songs ever written.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
We're going to play Jolene next.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
But urban legend has it that Dolly Parton was sifting
through some of her old stuff, found a cassette tape.
It had the demos for Jolene and I Will Always
Love You on it. And she joked around that these
two songs, which are crazy iconic, could have been written
in the same writing session.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Imagine that.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Some songwriters go their whole lives and a lot of them.
looking to write something that will last the span of time.
She wrote two in the same day, possibly. Here's Jolene
on 96.9 The Cat.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
And we're rolling. Let 96.9 the cat hear you.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
It's time to sound off cat country with Graham in
the mornings.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
How many dates do you go on before you accept
or allow or entertain your significant other to pay for you?
Producer Hunter, you're in a relationship, so I digress to you.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
That's right. It was about date number five when she
ended up paying. She was willing to pay any date,
but it was about number five where she was like, hey,
I'm going to pay this date.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
You don't have to worry about this one.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
We just loaded the scenario, and we call it Sound Off.
We load these daily topics of conversation every day to
our show page.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Grab the mornings. You can weigh in there.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
We got some responses via Instagram. We did.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
One said, I always offer.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
That's nice.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yeah, that's very nice.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah, and this was from a female, correct?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
It was.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Okay, nice.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Christina from Instagram says she always offers. Now, in the
back of your mind, because then it kind of takes
the pressure off of whoever's paying, you in this case,
how many times would you accept it? I would say
one out of every five, so two out of ten.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Yeah, one out of every five, maybe one out of three,
something along those lines, yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Phone lines are open.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
How many dates in or how many times would you
accept that help when paying for your significant other on
a date?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
1-800-570-9690.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Sound off. 96.9 The Cat. As we continue remembering Dolly
Parton today, it's hard to put into words the impact
she had on country music and far beyond. She brought joy, hope,
inspiration to millions through her music, her generosity, the way
she lived her life. In honor of a true legend
who will never be forgotten, I don't think another song
(11:43):
could sum it up better.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Here's I Will Always Love You, Dolly Parton. All your
sports news in 60 seconds.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
It's your Sports Minute with Graham in the mornings on 96.9
The Cab.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
College football is back this weekend and fans across the Carolinas,
we got a lot to celebrate. So North Carolina is
going to get things started with a noon kickoff against
TCU in Ireland. And your boy as a Tar Heel
fan is worried. But NC State is going to follow
that up. 3.30 kickoff against Virginia. Everybody's getting going this weekend. Clemson,
(12:17):
South Carolina, Duke, Charlotte, our boys up the mountain, App State,
East Carolina, Wake Forest, everybody all kicking off their seasons
as well with games stretching well into prom time. So
fire up that grill early, settle in, because from the
first noon kickoff till the final game under the lights,
college football is officially back. And that's your Sports Minute
(12:38):
on 96.9. The cat is Graham in the mornings.
