into Joe Burrow and we're going to talk with our
guy Tracks coming up here in just a couple of minutes.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Mike Petralia.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
He asked, I think the question that is a great
debate this week it was a money question. He got
a money answer from Joe Burrow. It was simply, what
would you say to people who would prefer you not play,
that you sit out, they protect you the rest of
the way and we see you next season. Listen to
this response from QB one Joe Burrow.

Speaker 6 (03:36):
I'm a football player.

Speaker 7 (03:37):
I get paid a lot of money to go and
play a game with my friends, and we work really hard,
and you know, it's intense and there's jobs on the line,
but at the end of the day, it's a game,
and I've worked hard to put myself in this position
and get as healthy as I can be to go
out and play with these guys, and that's something I
wanted to do.

Speaker 8 (03:57):
What are your thoughts when people say you're the friends,
the most important player on amportant stage and you should
be protected for next year and going forward behind that.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
I understand why people feel that way, but if you
look at it from my perspective, I'm a football player,
and if I get hurt, I'm gonna go through the
rehab process and then I'm gonna let everybody know when.

Speaker 6 (04:21):
I feel like I can go out there and play.
I don't really know what else to say about that.

Speaker 7 (04:26):
I'm not gonna ever go to somebody and say, yeah,
I'm healthy, but I don't think.

Speaker 6 (04:33):
I don't think I should go out there and play.
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Speaker 7 (04:35):
I'm not gonna live my life and play this game
scared of something happening.

Speaker 6 (04:42):
Like, Yeah, something's gonna happen. It's football.

Speaker 7 (04:44):
Guys are gonna get hurt, Guys are gonna get concussions.
You're gonna break bones, tear ligaments. It's a physical, intense game.
That's that's part of this. And yeah, I've had injuries.
There's not a lot I can do about that. I
work really hard to have that not have happened. But
what I can do is when it does happen, I
can control how I'm attacking my rehab and attacking practice

(05:06):
and doing everything in my power to get back as
quickly as possible.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
That's what I did.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Joe Burrow yesterday, and Rock is a former NFL player.
I noticed you were nodding along as he said. I'm
a football player, and I wouldn't make any sense to
me to be healthy and not play, and you can't
play scared of what might happen.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
He's absolutely right, and I mean, it's what he does
at this point in his life is what he's been
put on earth to do. You know, right now, you
you do radio because that's what you do, right and
he plays football, So aside from the question of should
he or shouldn't he, because that's that's sometimes even greater
than what his decision is. But it's absolutely what you

(05:46):
want to hear out of your franchise quarterback. And it's
absolutely what the other players in that locker room want
to hear. And I've said all along. You know, Joe Burrow
is more important than every other singular player on that
roster and in that locker room. But for other guys
that are on that you know, on that team right
now in a bad season, maybe a little banged up,

(06:08):
and you know, those demons start creeping in your head
and right which I've had him too, where God, do
I really want to go out there? And if you
see that he's doing it, you say, well, what's my
excuse if that guy's going out there when in the
franchise has a lot to lose, He has a lot
to lose, but he wants to go out there and play,
because damn it, that's what he does, is play football.
Then I should too. So I think it's fantastic for

(06:29):
the roster.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
No doubt. Very well said. He's rocky on Lance. We're
at Long Necks in Hebrew until eight tonight. Stop buy

Rocker Opening segment talking about Joe Burrow is the hot
topic of the week around the NFL, brought to you
by Hudson Oil Fueling Champions, Fueling champions on and off
the field.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Hudson Oil.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Let's keep the hot topic conversation going with our next guest,
who's been all over it this week.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
He covers the Bengals for.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Clnscincy withthey dot Com, host of the Jungle Roar podcast
on YouTube. He's the man they call Trags, Mike Petrallion Trags.
In the first segment we played the exchange in your
question to Joe yesterday was a it was a money question.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
It was a money response.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
And how Joe Burrow answered your question about what he
would say to others is exactly what you want from
the face of your franchise, isn't it.

Speaker 8 (08:05):
It is?

Speaker 9 (08:06):
And I just think that's his way of showing leadership
and he knows that there is something.

Speaker 10 (08:12):
Left to prove in this season.

Speaker 9 (08:14):
Whether or not you think the Bengals are capable of
running off six straight wins and staying relevant in the
AFC North race is not the issue to him. The
issue is I've got to play each and every game.
I think we have a chance to win a game,
and that is what I'm getting paid a lot of
money to do. And he's not obtuse, he's not oblivious

(08:37):
to the role that he serves on the team, in
the franchise. He is totally aware that he's a historic
figure in the Bengals history already just based on a
fifty five million dollar annual contract. So he knows that
there's an obligation to go out and play when he
can play fully healthy, and he believes, for all intents

(08:59):
and bees he is with the toe heeled. He needs
to go out and lead the team to a win,
a win they desperately need. They've lost four straight, eight
of nine. All nine of those games came without Joe
Burrow as starting quarterback.

Speaker 10 (09:14):
You want some good news, The Bengals.

Speaker 9 (09:17):
Guys are on a The Bengals are on a seven
game winning streak with Burrow as a starting quarterback.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Yeah there you go.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
Yeah, well we'll play to that. So track I've been
saying all week, I'm fine with Joe Burrow playing as
long as there's no restrictions on him. You know, like, well,
we got to cut this from the playbook, and we
don't want him to roll out. What's your indication is
that going to be the case that it's going to
be full on Joe Burrow, no restrictions.

Speaker 10 (09:45):
So that's a great question, Rocky.

Speaker 9 (09:47):
And the only bit of trepidation I had yesterday during
the Borough news conference was when.

Speaker 10 (09:53):
He was asked that very question.

Speaker 9 (09:55):
He's like, well, we'll see, and I'm like, okay, Well,
that to me is not a great sign because maybe
he tries to do I think what he's saying there
is he knows he needs to get rid of the
ball faster, and maybe that alters the way he plays
the game a little bit, and maybe that it is
his tip of the cap that I can't sit back

(10:17):
in the pocket and continue to take hits like I
did when I got injured against Jacksonville. That can't happen anymore.
So maybe that's what he's saying. But I do believe
that he feels one hundred percent healthy. The only soreness
he had last week after the two full practices on
Wednesday and Thursday, and he told me this when I

(10:37):
asked him.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Was general body soreness.

Speaker 10 (10:40):
Well, you would expect that.

Speaker 9 (10:41):
When you haven't had full NFL practice in the middle
of the week.

Speaker 10 (10:47):
In ten weeks, that's going to happen.

Speaker 9 (10:49):
And certainly I think he could have played, no question,
on Sunday against the Patriots. But Zach Taylor read that differently.
He was like, well, if he's still sore, I don't
want him on the field. And that's where I think
there is some legitimate criticism of the decision that Bengals
made not to play in because had Burrow played that

(11:10):
game last week, I do think and I know many
have argued they could have won that game. And then
you're talking about a team that is coming into Baltimore
four and seven.

Speaker 10 (11:20):
Not three and eight.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Treg's you're around this group, you talked with him this week.
Is it fair to say there is a different vibe?
Is there a collective bounce of the step of this
locker room?

Speaker 9 (11:35):
Yeah, there's no question there's a different vibe, and the guys,
especially the players, can feel it.

Speaker 10 (11:41):
I know certainly.

Speaker 9 (11:42):
Chase Brown made reference to that early in the week
on Monday, he said, Look, when Joe's in the room,
we all know we've got a chance. He has a
certain expectation of us to go out and perform, and
we usually respond to that expectation Jamar Chase has always
at that, and I think there's an expectation throughout the

(12:04):
building that this team is going to go out and
play to a different level on Thursday.

Speaker 10 (12:11):
Night Tomorrow night.

Speaker 9 (12:12):
I will also add this before I forget, let's not
forget about the improvement of the defense over the last
two weeks. They allowed twenty points to the Steelers and
they allowed nineteen points to the Patriots. Those are not
bad numbers, especially to the Patriots. And when you take
a look at the way the Ravens have been playing

(12:32):
offensively lately, it ain't great and Lamar Jackson is not
putting up the numbers that he has in years past.
If the defense can continue its momentum, continue to play
like it has shown over the last couple of weeks,
the Bengals definitely have a fighter's chance tomorrow night.

Speaker 5 (12:52):
So let me let's elaborate on the defense, because I
agree they have been better certainly last week. In your
conversations with the team. What do you attribute that to?
Is that an under better understanding of the of the
scheme by some guys like Barret Carter had sixteen tackles
last week? Is that more of a will a one
to two and guys frankly getting pissed off and getting

(13:14):
tired of people making fun of him for not being
tough and tackling or is it just an experienced level?
What is it?

Speaker 9 (13:21):
It's more of the latter, Rocky, I think it's guys
finally saying enough is enough. But what leads to that, well,
just saying screw it and going out on the field
and playing faster. And several guys, including Chris Jenkins Junior,
told me that the team is playing with a lot
more aggressiveness and speed and not worrying about, you know,

(13:45):
where their exact position.

Speaker 10 (13:48):
Is along the defensive line.

Speaker 9 (13:50):
They're just saying, I'm going to take my spot and
bull rush forward.

Speaker 10 (13:55):
I'm not going to worry about.

Speaker 9 (13:56):
Anything else except playing my position, my responsibility, and you know,
it's kind of a different take on do your job.

Speaker 10 (14:03):
But that's what the Bengals.

Speaker 9 (14:05):
Defense has been doing it certainly along the defensive line.
And I think that those two defensive stops they got
in the red zone last week against the Patriots are
critical to.

Speaker 10 (14:18):
The confidence of the unit.

Speaker 9 (14:19):
I think they know that they can stop a very
high powered and very capable Patriots offense from scoring one
touchdown in nine tries inside the ten yard line and
then hold them to a field goal inside the two
yard line in another key situation in the fourth quarter
that can only give them confidence going forward.

Speaker 3 (14:43):

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Three game losing skit has certainly changed a bit of
the vibe from a seven game winning streak. Let's welcome
in Chad Brendle from Bearcat Journal Bearcat journal dot com.
All Right, you you brought up a great point on
the podcast. I've been thinking about all week and in
one Nippert was electric on Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
But concern.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
They have clearly closed the talent gap over the last
couple of years with other Big twelve teams. But as
you alluded to so much so the last couple of weeks,
their talent has been pretty much on par with the opposition,
and yet they've been unable to beat that opposition.

Speaker 10 (17:21):
Yeah, they've been unable to execute. And that's that's the
next step, right, Like you've got to get on an
equal talent level because you certainly, look you've all had
more talent. Like, let's not make any mistakes here. When
talking about the last three games, you tall was a
more talented roster top to bottom. I didn't get that
dealing with Arizona on BYU. I felt like Cincinnati was

(17:43):
every bit they equal of those two teams. But guess
what those two teams played clean football, you see, did not?
I mean, ultimately, to me, it's as simple as that
they played clean football during that seven game winning streak.
They weren't turning it over. They were executing in the
red zone. Special teams was excellent. Defense was doing the
bend but don't break, letting teams get into the red zone,

(18:03):
but holding them to field goals. Like they were clean.
In the last three weeks, they've been pig ten from peanuts.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
Yeah, no doubt in a chair. Yeah yeah, So chat,
let me ask you this. So, I mean, obviously they
started off hot, they've lost three straight. What happens? God forbid,
They've lose this game? What is the what is the
eulogy of the season? Is it a successful season? Is
it something to build on? Is it a disappointment? What
do we think about sadderfield? Where are we at with that?

Speaker 10 (18:39):
I mean, I think it's it's a disappointment. I think
it's missed opportunities. That would be the story of twenty
twenty five is the door was open and you ran
into the door. Like That's That's all I can think
about at this point in terms of you had a
chance to put yourself. I don't think they're better than
talent wise than Texas Tech. I don't think they're better

(19:00):
talent wise than Utah. But you had a chance to
play yourself into the conference championship game even after the
Utah loss. You had a chance to put yourself in
a position, even if you didn't make it that you
tie for second, right, and the tie breakers play out
however they may, and you find yourself talking about, look,

(19:20):
you know we were right there, like we are, this
program is now in position to compete for championships in
the Big twelve. Even with three conference losses. You know
you're going to be, you know, tied for fifth, which
is a respectable position. In year three, moving from the
American to the Big twelve, you lose now your eighth, ninth,

(19:43):
and you're in the middle of the pack and one
and two. Look a law farther off yep from nine
than it does from five. So the vision becomes cloudy.
The progress, the steady progress forward was their progress in
twenty twenty five. Sure was it enough progress?

Speaker 9 (20:05):
No?

Speaker 10 (20:06):
So you know we talked about this at the beginning
of the season. Seven and five. People are still going
to be all over Scott's sadderfield from the fan base
eight and four. You don't give them a whole lot
of ammo. You know, you don't give them a whole
lot to fire at because you had a successful season.
You went six and three in the conference and things
look good. So this is a really, really important game

(20:29):
for the future of the Scott Badderfield era at Cincinnati.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
TCU's got a quarterback in Josh Hoover who can sling it.
I think top ten of the country in yards per
game and touchdowns. Give us a big picture look at
that TCU club.

Speaker 10 (20:45):
But it's not just Suber. They've got two excellent wide
receivers that have been you know, get the ball to
those guys in space and let them make plays and
they have done so. Push the ball downfield to those
guys in single coverage and they will make plays. That
has been maybe the biggest problem for Cincinnati's defense is

(21:06):
isolation on the sideline, pushing the ball down the field
and it either results in a catch or pass interference.
Very few of those plays have resulted in an incompletion.
Hoover's going to test you now, hopefully. Sonny Diyce calls
Dave Randa, and David r Andanda says, yeah, you should
probably run the ball fifty eight percent of the time

(21:26):
against Cincinnati because Baylor. Did you see a huge favor
in that game. Cincinnati says they're going to defend you know,
Scott Saderfield says they'll defend TCU in a similar way
that they defended Baylor. I mean, I said after the
Baylor game, like I fired Dave Randa for not throwing
the ball forty times a game. That didn't make any
sense to me. I think TCU is going to throw

(21:47):
the ball a ton and it's it's the question is
going to be it is supposed to be scattered showers
and storms in the forecast for Dallas Fort Worth on Saturday.
Maybe that slows down the TCU offense a little bit,
but uh, Cincinnati's pass defense against that offense is worry

(22:08):
some Now whover will turn it over? The question is
does anybody in Cincinnati's defensive backfield want to catch a ball?
Because they haven't done much of that this year either.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
All right, I wasn't gonna ask this next question, but
then you started talking about TCU being able to get
the ball to their guys and letting them make plays.
So you're gonna make me ask you about Joe Royer
and how in the last four games he has five catches,
and I feel like I'm beating a dead horse. And
I know I'm not the only one, but make it.
Make I get he commands a lot of attention. But

(22:40):
how does Joe Royer get five catches and limited targets
over the last four games.

Speaker 10 (22:45):
Yeah, it's not just the five catches, it's the targets, Lance,
And it's yeah, it's every week, we're going to find
a way to get Joe the ball, Like, we got
to figure it out. We've got an NFL tight end.
We're gonna find a way to get him the ball.
And then you know, one of his two catches was
a four checkdown on third and eleven. Like they were
at one point in that game, Lance, they were one

(23:06):
of ten on third downs, most of them. You know,
third and five, third and six, third and seven. You
can't scheme up Joe Royer for seven yards, Like you
can't get the ball to your NFL tight end in
a situation where you're in the game against the number
eleven team in the country, you're struggling to get third downs. Look,

(23:29):
I get it. Teams are paying a lot of attention
to Joe Royer. That becomes the coaching staff and the
quarterback saying Joe Royer is going to get the football.
So I'm going back. I'm gonna date myself here again.
I'm going back to Marvin Lewis I see better than
I hear Quoit telling me we know and we're going
to get the ball to Joe Royer. And then Saturday

(23:51):
comes and goes, and I look down at the stat
sheet and it says Joe Royer two catches, two targets,
eleven yards. That can't can't happen.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
All right, you're on the scene for basketball tonight, so
let me squeeze in one of those before we let
you run. And a player I'm intrigued by Jordi Rodrigue
is his playing time. It fluctuated and he got twenty
three minutes the other night was productive with those what's
your early read through this stage of the season on
what Jordi Rodriguez might be able to do.

Speaker 5 (24:21):
For this team.

Speaker 10 (24:23):
Well, he's going to play a ton because bobon Miller's out,
Jalen Celestine's out. So guess what, Jordi, here you go,
here's your opportunity. You're probably gonna play thirty minutes tonight,
twenty five to thirty minutes tonight. I am a big
fan of Jordi Rodriguez, Like, look, I know what the
euro guys, the physicality of the game takes them a

(24:44):
little time to a juft two. But his effort is great,
his energy is great. He knows how to play offense,
he can shoot the basketball, he can pass like I
just think upside in terms of what this looks like
in a month. You need to get Jordi Reef Rodriguez
as much time as possible to let him acclimate to

(25:06):
the game in the States. And the more you do that,
the more I think he is going to be a factor.
And his ability just to shoot the ball alone, and
he's done it on the international level. He's played for
you know, some of the Spain teams that have won
FIBA championships. The guy knows how to win. Let him play,

(25:28):
and they're going to have to tonight. So I'm excited
to see what he can do because I think, you know,
when you watch him play, he plays like you expect
somebody at Cincinnati to play. And I'm excited to see
what he can do going forward.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
All Right, I am telling you're going to go seven

like your opinion on. And Joe Burrow talking about what
last week meant in the opportunity to start ramping up

the run through the regular season into the postseason with.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
The Bengals from the Long next in Wilder. He gave
me that look.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
I was gonna do it with a straight face. Then
you gave me that look like, what the hell are
you talking.

Speaker 5 (28:27):
About saying there's a chance. There is a chance.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
By the way, thanks to everybody here at the Long
Necks in Hebrew. They always take great care of us.
We've got a great setup. We've had a fantastic five
week run here. We also look forward to spending time
with our friends at Long Necks in Wilder starting next week.
All right, rock this week's ovation, I'm going off the
board a little bit.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
It's time for our standing Ovation.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
It is presented by Ovation the Urban Resort where Cincinnati
coming to the Newport come together. Our Ovation Standing Ovation
this week is more of a season accomp an impact.
I'm gonna give it to Joe Flacco and if if
in fact, last week was the final time we see
him as the Bengals quarterback this season, this comment, I

(29:09):
think he every time I think I'm really impressed by him,
he says something that makes me.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
Even more impressed.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Listen to what he said this week when asked if
he had thought of this was after the game, if
he thought about maybe Sunday was his last time quarterbacking
this football team.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
His reflections. Take a listen.

Speaker 13 (29:27):
I think as a competitor, you're always going to be
out there on the field. I mean, this is what
I live to do, is go out in that field
and play football. But at the same time, I feel
really fortunate to have kind of found myself in this situation.
As much as I would have loved to see us
win games, I still have had a lot of fun
here with these guys in the locker room. Going out
lacing them up with these guys has been a lot

(29:50):
of fun, and I've felt right at home and have
had a.

Speaker 14 (29:54):
Blast doing it.

Speaker 13 (29:55):
I don't think I really am looking anything past that.
You know, I get how certain feelings could be involved
with this, but in this case, it's you know, it's
easy for me to kind of put those aside and
just look at the positives of the whole thing, and
you know, and be excited for another teammate trying to work.

Speaker 10 (30:13):
His way back.

Speaker 13 (30:14):
So it might sound like crap and like I'm lying,
And yeah, there is a tough part of not being
out there. There always is, but I feel like I've
put my head down and worked hard the last however
long it's been. And when you're in there with guys
and you make relationships with him, and you're out there
battling on the field with them and you can look
each other in the eyes and know that you've been
putting out the right way, then you really can't worry.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
About the other things.

Speaker 5 (30:38):
I love that guy.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
I just absolutely love that guy. And you you know
what I think. And again that's our standing Ovation this
week brought to you by presented by Ovation Applaud Life Experience,
Ovation Visit, Ovation on the River, dot com Rock.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Would it be a stretch? He'll be forty.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
One next season if I'm the Bengals, and I think
if I'm him, it's not. I would find it unlikely
that another team would offer him a starting opportunity. But
as much as he likes being here, as much as
he has helped this team on and off the field,
if I'm the Bengals, I'm seriously looking at bringing him
back next year as Joe Burrow's backup.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Am I nuts?

Speaker 5 (31:16):
No, absolutely, And yeah, if you're him, of course, if
someone wants to give you a starting role a shot
at that, you go. But no team is going to
do that. Why would you go anywhere else You've had success.
Town loves you. I told her. A Baltimore radio host
this week I was on with him. I said, you
know what, like ten years from now, you know, God

(31:36):
will and I'll still be doing this, and somebody's going to, hey,
you remember the Joe Flacco tenuere and everybody is going
to look back on that with tremendous adoration and praise.
It's just a shame they didn't win more games when
he was that quarterback. But but what a fun, wild time.
I mean, just the whole story comes in.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
He's, you know, there a few days with his wife
and he's learning the plays.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
Over the phone. Yeah. I did just a great story,
a great guy, and I mean you can see why
the guy has been successful, not just in football but life.
He has a real great temperament to him. He's very
thoughtful and and but not boring. Right, So, no, he's
been fantastic.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
Yeah, while we're on the subject of the quarterback, let's
also work in a little bit more on Joe Burrow.
He was asked yesterday what last week meant. He got
a chance to ramp things up. He did a full practice,
He went seven on seven then eleven on eleven. Ultimately
didn't play, But here's Joe on how much that helped
last week.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
It felt good. I needed it.

Speaker 7 (32:39):
It felt good to get some live reps both scout
team man first team, and I think that will serve
me well this week, having a full week where you
know you're expecting to play and you're going through your
preparation like like.

Speaker 6 (32:53):
You're gonna play and then it doesn't happen.

Speaker 7 (32:56):
So but it's good to have that under your belt
to then going to this week where you're not going
to get a ton of full speed reps because it's
a Thursday night against the team that played a million times.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Joe on what last week meant leading into this Why
Tomorrow night, Why Baltimore for his return, Here's what he said.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
Number one, it's a division game.

Speaker 7 (33:18):
I got a lot of respect for the people on
the opposite side of the ball, but when you play
people twice a year, you get tired of them, you
don't like them. It's a division rivalry. You got respect
for him, but it's intense out there. It's something I
wanted to be out there for playing on Thanksgiving, something
I've always wanted to do. That I pushed for in
the past, and the NFL gave it to us, and

(33:38):
then you know, the injury happened and thought I wasn't
gonna be able to play, and then as we got closer,
I felt like it was a real possibility.

Speaker 6 (33:45):
So that's exciting to me.

Speaker 7 (33:47):
It's a national stage to go out and improve yourself
again after not playing for several weeks, and every opportunity
that you get to go improve all the hard work
that you've put in the type of player you are
is something that I try to take advantage of.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
Joe Burrow yesterday.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
That'll lead us into our review of last week's Drive
of the game, brought to you by driveway Dumpsters in Cincinnati.
Black and yellow does mean trash. Visit de dumpsters dot com.
Limit it on drives candidates for our drive of the week.
Because they had a field goal drive. The touchdown was
a pick six by the defense, We'll go with the
opening drive. It led to a field goal eleven plays

(34:23):
to open a game, open the game for the Bengals
with three points on the board. That is our drive
of last week's game. Final thought on Flacco before we
hit the top of the aar and you mentioned it
is a shame they didn't win more with him. And
I think if we went back to the week they
traded for him, had somebody said, all right, would you
take sixty three percent completion percentage, thirteen touchdowns and four

(34:45):
interceptions for Joe Flacco in a whatever it was, an
eight week run, would you take those numbers, we both
would have said, heck, yeah, that from Joe Flacco is
a forty year old take it absolutely, We take it.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
And let's remember he played with he played with a
bad shoulder, he was available, made himself available for that.
He dislocated his finger during the game on Sunday, he
comes to the sidelines, they yank it back into plays.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
He misses one play.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
He goes back into the game and throws a pretty
touchdown pass of Mitchell Tin's on the back corner of
the ends up for a touchdown.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
Yeah tough. I mean, it's not easy coming in this
late in the season, but by anyr regard, but just
physically what that does your body in his age now,
he was absolutely fantastic.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Just from the example he set and the way he
was received by his teammates. Very well done and again
deserving of our standing ovation just of last week, and
he did it. He said he had a tough game
last week through the pick six. Didn't see the guy
took a sack that took him out of a field
goal range. But the body of work for Joe Flacco
pretty impressive. Let's turn into our number two. You had

(35:55):
a chance to talk with Glenn Clark this week, who
covers the Baltimore Ravens. He had some interesting thoughts on
that Ravens team. It's on a hot streak right now,
playing as well as anybody, at least defensively. There's some
questions about them offensively with Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
We'll get into that.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
More of Joe Burrow, what Andrew Whipworth said about Joe
Burrow in a recommendation he has for Joe and the
way he plays the game. And then a little bit
of high school football, maybe playoffs and maybe nil. All
ahead in our seven o'clock hour, Holy Cow and Dan
Klaskin's Fantasy football.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
All in the seven o'clock hour. We're hanging at it long.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
Thanks for hanging out with us. Tonight.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
We are on ESPN fifteen thirty with U see basketball

to cover in this hour. Take a look at those
Baltimore Ravens as well. Shout out to Fran and his
lovely wife Phyllis, who are not here tonight, but I
know they're listening at home. We appreciate them listening and
wish them and everybody a happy Thanksgiving. I am told

(38:28):
by highly placed sources that you have managed to set
up and will execute tomorrow a Thanksgiving that will involve
you doing absolutely nothing.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
Can you confirm that zero.

Speaker 5 (38:39):
I would do absolutely nothing. I will walk in the door,
sit down, and eat at two Thanksgivings. I'm a blessed man,
so I have to say my mom and he is
gonna take care of one Thanksgiving along with my wife
and sister, and the second one my mother in law
along with my wife and everybody else. So it's literally
the best.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Thing that maybe that may be the greatest setup that
I've ever heard what you explained to me. I've never
heard anybody capable pulling it all well.

Speaker 5 (39:07):
I'm hoping to execute very well. So that sets the stage,
and that happens like every year tradition. That's what I'm
that's set it up, right. Yeah, if I execute well,
it'll stay a tradition.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Now I must ask, since we're on the subject of food,
how are you mentally and physically right now? Because, as
you've talked about in the Afternoon Show with Eddie, you're
in the middle of a of a mental and physical
challenge of yourself.

Speaker 5 (39:33):
It's so dumb and it's all content driven.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
Let's be honest.

Speaker 5 (39:36):
Yes, I need something to talk about. In the latter month,
you're doing a fast. What's alternating fast? What's the term dream? Fast?

Speaker 15 (39:45):
On?

Speaker 5 (39:45):
Off?

Speaker 14 (39:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (39:47):
Yeah, So I go a full day of not eating,
a full day of eating, full day of not eating
for a week. So I I ate Sunday, did not
eat Monday, nothing, So I drink water, you know, coffee
and zin and I have a little bit more zens Mondays.
I'm not eating anyway, so uh yeah, so then I
ate eight Tuesday today I'm not eating and you know

(40:09):
how much I like my trishtip, try to steak case
you along. Yes, yeah, I'm forgoing that tonight. But then
I that's what she said when she came up.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
She didn't even leave the menu for you because she said, well,
he's a creature of happened.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
I know what he's gonna get. And then you said
no food, but I'm not eating tonight.

Speaker 5 (40:26):
I'm Lisa a little bit smart. And then I plan
this around to make sure. Thanks to you, I wanted
to challenge yourself.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Yeah no, no, no, would have been tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (40:37):
The feedbagg is going on sun But yeah, I'll do that.
Uh you know, eat tomorrow, don't eat Friday, eat Saturday,
don't eat Sunday.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
So now I'm fascinated by this and I have no
interest in doing it, but I'll live vicariously through you.

Speaker 4 (40:51):
Are you, like, on a day like.

Speaker 3 (40:54):
Yesterday, are you loading up like double what you would
normally eat and then eating nothing that day?

Speaker 4 (41:00):
Or are you eating normally and then nothing else?

Speaker 5 (41:02):
I'd say eat maybe a little more, but not I
wouldn't say it's double. I'm not just forcing foods.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
You know, headache, See I get a headache, I'd be
grumpy and i'd have a headache.

Speaker 5 (41:11):
I'll tell you what, Like I feel that. One thing
I've learned is, you know, when you start the process
of eating, you want to eat more. So like when
I wake up and I don't eat, I really didn't
miss lunch, now dinner. I'm hungry right now. To be clear,
I'm hungry. Haven't gotten angry yet, but that may be coming.
So yeah, I'm just we're gonna see what it does.

(41:32):
I'm not trying to lose weight. I just want to
you hear ear these benefits of you know, clarity. Yeah, no,
more so just a challenge. I don't want to see
what it does on the report back, And like you said,
I have show content. I can get a little mileage
out of all.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
Right, let's take a look our first look at Sunday's opponent.
Our game day preview brought to you by Game Day
Men's Health get back in the game. I had a
chance yesterday afternoons with Eddie and Rocky on seven hundred WLW,
you could talk with Glenn Clark, who covers to Baltimore
Ravens in Baltimore and I had a conversation about some
of the things going on with that team.

Speaker 4 (42:05):
Let's remember they were once one in five.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
They were one and five and their defensive coordinator was
under fire and they were giving up a ton of points.
And now they've brewed off five in a row. They're
six and five, they're in first place, and you ask
him about the winning streak and just kind of the
big picture look on what six and five has been
like and what it really means for this team.

Speaker 4 (42:24):
Here's going Clark on the Ravens.

Speaker 16 (42:26):
It's been a really weird tale of two seasons almost
here in Baltimore, where they get up to this dreadful
one in five start, and part of it is they
lose Lamar Jackson. But they started off fine offensively. Their
defense was miserable for the first five games the season,
one of the worst in the NFL.

Speaker 10 (42:43):
And then all of a sudden, the defense gets fixed.
They trade for Lohi.

Speaker 16 (42:47):
Gilman, and it allows them to use Kyle Hamilton as
this jack of all trade safety. This playing literally every
position defensively, from I mean actual snaps at defensive tackle
to playing at cornerback. And the defense looks great, and
then Lamar Jackson comes back, and the thought is like,
all right, everything's gonna click and then offensively, things just

(43:07):
haven't clicked for the last few weeks.

Speaker 10 (43:09):
So the Ravens have.

Speaker 16 (43:09):
Won five in a row, but they're in a weird
place where a lot of it's here thinking to ourselves, Yeah,
but are they good enough to do what they need
to do in order to hold off the Steelers? And
I guess maybe still the Bengals in the AFC North
and make a playoff run.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
Rock They gave up one hundred and seventy seven points
in their first five games. They'd never given up that
many points over any five game stretch in their franchise.
They give it forty one to the Bills, they gave
up thirty eight to the Lions, thirty seven to the Chiefs,
forty four to the Texans, and they looked dead. And
now they're sitting in first place at six and five,

(43:45):
which kind of if you're as a Bengel fan, you
sit there and say, man, at the start of the
season had said, right, would six and five be good
enough for first place?

Speaker 4 (43:54):
I mean, think of it.

Speaker 5 (43:54):
Six and five is first place? I mean, I mean,
that's the absolute crusher, right is the Bengals are having
the downest of down years in a year where it's
all right there, right, it's all right there. I mean,
it certainly doesn't look like the dominant Ravens teams we've
seen of a couple of years ago. And I think,
I mean this week is obviously the Bengals want to

(44:16):
win this game, but for Baltimore critical juncture, right, they
lose this game, right, you feel like the thing just
kind of goes off the cliff a little bit and
not being that that dominant rate Ravens team where you
used to see him.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
And you asked the key point to Klein yesterday, having
said everything he said about the poorest start and now
the winning streak, are the Baltimore Ravens good, Here's.

Speaker 4 (44:36):
What he said.

Speaker 16 (44:37):
It still seems like it's to be determined a little
bit that they did not exactly go through like a
murderer's row of quarterbacks with putting together five straight wins. Ironically,
the best win they had in that stretch was without
Lamar Jackson. It was Tyler Huntley beating the Bears in
order to get their second win of this season. But
the last four have been against Tua and JJ McCarthy

(44:59):
and Dylan gave real flash shotor Sanders and Tyrod Taylor.
But yet, I think we're confident.

Speaker 10 (45:05):
They made a really great move.

Speaker 16 (45:06):
With the deadline to bring in Draymont Jones from the Titans,
and he's made a massive impact up front. So I
think there's a genuine belief that the defense has turned
and is going to be better when they face Joe
Burrow and some of the better quarterbacks they're going to
face the rest of the way. The question now is
Lamar Jackson has literally had four different injury designations this season.

(45:27):
He missed three plus games the hamstring injury. Since coming back,
he's misspractices with ankle, knee, and toe injuries. He doesn't
look like Lamar Jackson. The offensive line isn't very good.
Can they get it kicked into gear offensively?

Speaker 3 (45:43):
I mean, think about that hamstring, ankle, knee, toe, that's
all lower body. That's all what drives and kind of
fuels Lamar Jackson the ability to be a dangerous threat
leaving the pocket, extending plays, and that just I was
looking at a clip on Twitter today from dan Orlobsky.

(46:03):
You had three specific plays of Lamar Jackson since coming
back where.

Speaker 4 (46:07):
He looks nothing like himself.

Speaker 3 (46:09):
Because there would be opportunities to run for a first
out or beat a linebacker to the edge, and he
just hasn't been able to do it.

Speaker 5 (46:16):
You know, as much in this town as we have
the conversation of, boy, wouldn't it be a shame if
the Bengals miss a Super Bowl? In the Joe Burrow window,
they're having the exact same conversations. And right now, if
you're a Ravens fan, you're saying, boy, he really looks
like he's not the same player and not able to
stay healthy, and so they're certainly concerned with that as well.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
One more on the subject of Lamar. Here's Glenn Clark
on the Ravens quarterback.

Speaker 16 (46:41):
They don't want the Bengals to know what kind of
thing it is. They don't want us to know what
kind of thing it is. It's obviously a thing, but
to what extent It is really hard to get a
definitive answer. And Lamar had already in the last year
or two, tried to cut back a little bit on
how much he was. But I'll tell you guys. On

(47:02):
Sunday they played the Jets. There was a third and
three on the second drive of the game. There's two
separate running lanes with at least eight to ten yards
in front of him, and he still didn't take off
and ended up throwing incomplete passways. They likely there's something
going on here with Lamar health wise, and to me,
I don't know if they can fix the offensive line.

(47:23):
I think that kind of is what it is that
is the biggest determination and what the Ravens are capable
of doing, because if they can get Lamar Jackson Lamar
Jackson back, then they can beat anybody. But if it's
this version, I don't know if they can beat the
best teams in the AFC with what we've seen from
Lamar the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
Glenn Clark from Baltimore joining Eddie and Rocky yesterday afternoon
on seven hundred WLW. It's a Bengals defense and we'll

while we're transitioning. Brought to you by O'Connor at Channi

We'll go with Gino Stone. I don't know about you,
but I've always.

Speaker 5 (48:03):
Loved I never doubt him one time, Right six thirteen interceptions.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
I may have said last week I'd played with ten
guys before.

Speaker 5 (48:12):
You did see I was just gonna bring that up.
You had said that live on air you'd play with ten,
and maybe he was listening. He got some motivation from you.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
Pick six and thirteen tackles that he winds up as
the defensive player of the game on the roundtable show.

Speaker 5 (48:28):
The how much of the game one?

Speaker 9 (48:29):
You know?

Speaker 5 (48:30):
Stone fly around like, oh my god, what's going on?
And for him?

Speaker 4 (48:34):
Good for him, no doubt, no doubt. And I want
to ask you about the defense here.

Speaker 3 (48:38):
In a second, let me do the Postman Law Injury
report delivered by Postman Law Injured Postman delivers t is
out for tomorrow night with the concussion. Tray is out
with the back or the hip and the pelvis issue
in the back issue, uh TODJ.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
Brooks is out with.

Speaker 3 (48:52):
The concussion, and Jermaine Burton somehow is out with an ankle.
I don't know how he got an ankle, because he
never plays. I don't think there could be an think
more telling about where he fits in this organization than
last week. They're without Jamar Chase and your third round pick,
taking eightieth overall last year in Jermaine Burton is not

(49:12):
only doesn't play, he isn't active for the game. It
just look, I understand why he doesn't play. I've reached
the point I don't understand why he's on the roster.

Speaker 5 (49:22):
At all at this point. Look, if you know me,
you know one of my favorite sayings I live by
is preparing one day your chance will come. And this
is an example of a player missing his opportunities and
his chances. I'm here it is t Higgins is out.
Offense is reeling Joe Burrows back and he's not available.
It's such a shame. And how much he has to

(49:44):
do with the injury and how much was just terrible love.
I don't know, but you just get the feeling right that, Yep,
he's not a guy that's in there just grinding, grinding, grinding, grinding,
looking for that opportunity and he hopefully doesn't miss him.

Speaker 3 (49:56):
Back to the defense, and we touched on it a
little bit with Trags. Are you is it safe to
say we can be encouraged by the progress of the defense.

Speaker 4 (50:06):
They're not a finished product.

Speaker 3 (50:08):
They're not the Steel Curtain or the Doomsday Defense or
the eighty five Bears.

Speaker 4 (50:12):
But do you see progress.

Speaker 3 (50:14):
In a defense that is given up of the last
two weeks, just the defense nineteen points and twenty points.

Speaker 5 (50:19):
Look, there's never going to be a defense that's gonna
become that. They just don't have the physical talent. But
you like to see a defense make strides. I mean
the one you point out, you point to, certainly I do.
I mean Barrett Carter sixteen tackles, you know, much maligned
by me and you and a lot of people. So
and that was a positive step. That's what you want
to see is the things you can hit your wagon too. Yep,

(50:43):
about being a little more you know, a little more
hopeful for next season. I think that was one of them.
But he's got to put a couple games together, no
doubt in one of the things I kind of liked.
And a wrinkle he added.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
And maybe it's out of desperation and the old saying
if you can't get home with four, that's send five
or send six. They blitzed more and it caused some
disruption on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (51:02):
Yeah, you know, maybe Al Golden I've never pinned the
defensive failures on him, and he's a guy that's gonna
try things, and again credit to him for not trying
to do the same thing with the same personnel. I
mean kind of the cardinal rule of coaching is if
you are lesser in talent, you got to you gotta

(51:22):
do some things. That's what scheme is all about. And
figuring out how to how to use some scheme to
make up for our physical talent.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
Gap when we come back.

Speaker 3 (51:30):
A couple of interesting comments about Joe Burrow learning during
this injury and maybe playing differently coming back. You're gonna
hear what he said about it, what Zach said about it,
and wait till you hear what Andrew Whitworth said about
it as we continue.

Speaker 4 (51:46):
He's rocky, I'm Lance.

Developing situation in Major League Baseball. The Toronto Blue Jays

(53:18):

that's thirty million a year, yes, sir, for Dylan Ceas.
All right, So Joe Burrow is back. The question becomes,
will Joe Burrow be any different? Will he have to
be any different. Should he be different in his style
of play the play calls from Zach Taylor. Do they

(53:38):
do anything to try to protect him from that standpoint?
Zach was asked that question this week. Take a listen.

Speaker 5 (53:44):
It's a great question.

Speaker 17 (53:45):
There's a balance there of obviously him coming off of injury.
You want to be very mindful of that and that
a lot of that will be up to him as
he feels his pocket movement in his play style. Those
are decisions that he's going to have to feel out
as he goes forward. In sure love to say, you know,
let's let's be productive and not put him in an
environment where that's gonna happen. But you out there in

(54:06):
the football field, and that's that's why it's gonna take shape,
especially on third downs, especially in no in passing situations.

Speaker 5 (54:11):
It's the NFL.

Speaker 17 (54:12):
He can go out there with with kid gloves on
and say we're never gonna let this happen. It's some
things are gonna happen naturally and it'll be in his
hands to take care of it.

Speaker 5 (54:19):
If he's out there.

Speaker 3 (54:22):
I want to see how he I want to see
how comfortable he looks tomorrow night. He talked about uh,
last week, he was sore after the two full days
of practice, sore the rest of his body, and you
understand that he had in practice in weeks.

Speaker 4 (54:35):
He said the toe wasn't an issue. I just want to.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
See how comfortable he looks moving in and around the
pocket because nothing you you can't simulate what he's going
to face tomorrow night.

Speaker 5 (54:45):
Didn't live action, correct you you can do all the things.
And I've been saying all week, I'm fine with him
playing as long as there's not like some restrictions on him.
We don't have to not do this and not do that.
But the end of the day, it's still an un
controlled game. Right, It's like a fire. You don't know
what that fire is gonna do. And okay, yeah, we're

(55:05):
not gonna you know, let him run as much will
the pocket breaks down and he's got to So I
mean that that's gonna be the key question. How does
he look when those moments come up? That boy, you
don't necessarily want him to have to do that, but
he's got to because that's what playing the quarterback position
is all about.

Speaker 3 (55:21):
Here's Joe when asked about learning things during this time
and rehabbing and and maybe changing things in the way he.

Speaker 4 (55:29):
Plays the game. Here's QB one.

Speaker 6 (55:32):
We'll see, We'll see.

Speaker 7 (55:33):
I think I'm feeling I'm feeling good, good enough to
go out there and move and and extend. Obviously pick
my spots when when to do that and when not to,
but I feel confident that in certain moments I'll be
able to do that.

Speaker 5 (55:47):
Is there something that you thought about, maybe I'd like
to play a little bit differently.

Speaker 6 (55:50):
Have you assessed how you might like to play as
a quarterback?

Speaker 10 (55:53):
Roverboard?

Speaker 4 (55:53):
Does that change it all?

Speaker 6 (55:55):
You think about a lot of different things.

Speaker 7 (55:56):
Number One, you have time to think about him, and
you know you watch a lot of games across the league,
and you see who's playing well is not what's working schematically?

Speaker 6 (56:05):
What isn't You evaluate everything.

Speaker 3 (56:10):
Rock. This is the great clash of what would seem
easy to do versus what you are, what you're about.
It's easy to say, be like Joe Flacco and if
the plays initially not there, throw it away, throw it
into the ground, move on, lift to play the next down.
And yet we know Joe's DNA includes extending, buying time, sliding.

(56:34):
Just give me a half more second and Jamar is
gonna come free, and sometimes that leads to a hit,
it leads to something bad. And how much can you
actually change your stripes?

Speaker 5 (56:47):
Look, I've been saying this for two months that I
Joe Burrow needs to learn and evolve and how to
play the quarterback position. And it is a fine line
because you know, what got you to be the player
you are is doing what you do. But but I
mean some of the things I think he should should
learn from an evolve is he gets to be an

(57:07):
older quarterback and yeah, when to And it's all I
talk to every offensive coach in college that I have
the opportunity to to to meet with, is what what
is that fine line of knowing when Hey, I got
to push and make a play here versus give up
on the play because it's not there?

Speaker 10 (57:25):
When When? When?

Speaker 5 (57:26):
When do you do that? And it's the finest of lines.
But I have always said, certainly for the last few
months as he's been hurt of can he find a
better balance of that? Know that at the end of
the day, my health is is is vitally important not
just to me but the entire franchise with a lot
of other people riding on this the entire building in fact,

(57:46):
so hopefully we will we will see that without giving
up the magic that is Joe Burrow, can we get
a little bit more refined? Uh older, I guess more wise, Joe.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
Burrow perfect segue. Take a listen to what Andrew Whitworth
said this week. He was on with Kay Adams The
Upp and Adams Show, and she asked him about Joe.

Speaker 4 (58:06):
Burrow changing his game. Here is Kay with wit.

Speaker 5 (58:11):
Is there a way that you'd like to see this
something change with the way to keep him upright?

Speaker 6 (58:19):
Well, I think you look at it.

Speaker 11 (58:21):
I'd say this, and I don't mean this from like
an age standpoint, but like, look at some of your
true pocket passers that still play in the game right now,
you know, like I always say, like I would love
to see Joe Lean Moore into like what Matthew Stafford is. Yeah,
when plays are broken down or plays aren't there. I
mean you look at him last night like you just
get rid of the ball, like let's get the ball out,

(58:41):
let's move to the next down. And I'm not saying
that you're giving up on plays, but you're trusting like
I have the capability mentally, how sharp of a pass
or how accurate I am, what I can do with
the football in my hands and read defenses and understand
coverages and know what I need to do to get
the football to my guys, Like I can trust that
I can give this down up and on the next day,
I'll prove to you that I can make up for it.

(59:02):
And sometimes I think guys feel like they can make
up for it in the down, and you got to
start to realize, like, hey, maybe it's the next down
that I get us to without us losing yards, without
me getting injured, without something bad happening, and the next
down I'll make up for it. I just think that,
Like I remember even Peyton, do you. I mean I
can remember Peyton Manning like hitting the deck like guys
would come Scott Free and he just hit the deck

(59:25):
like him and Eli like you know, they were great
at that right time sometimes like just hit the deck,
take the sack and say, hey, you know what next play,
like I'm gonna convert on this third down along and
then we're gonna keep it moving we go score, and
I just that's my point is I think sometimes with
these things, it's like hey, Joe, you being healthy is
number one, and I'd love for you to learn like
sometimes some of these plays, we don't have to extend
them further than what they are, especially when they're three

(59:47):
steps or ball where the ball is supposed to get out.
If it's not there, let's move to the next down
and then let's go execute the next one.

Speaker 4 (59:54):
You were nodding your head and you were writing things down.

Speaker 5 (59:56):
What maybe you were just drafted. I know a guy
that's been saying that for two months, but I don't
think we're worth got the amount of hatred that that
I have about Why do you want to change Joe Burrow? No,
It's it's very simple to me again because I all
along looked at it, like you know, I played an
era and played with the quarterbacks and Peyton and Brady

(01:00:19):
that were absolute statues back there, but somehow they found
a way. There was never they were never taking the
big shots, never getting their body all all contorted. And
to me, it's it's a difference of being a thrower
and a quarterback. You know, a quarterback. Yeah, as I
said earlier, it has to know those fine lines of okay,
hey it ain't here on this down, but guess what,
there's gonna be seventy other downs in this game where

(01:00:42):
where I where I can get this thing and not
giving up, you know, senseless shots to my body.

Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Sent the other downs later in the game that I'm
gonna be healthy to try.

Speaker 5 (01:00:52):
To executeah or or and not even just that game
that the next week. I know, we're always singular focused
on this particular play. We want to win this down.
And it's an admirable quality, it really is. But you
got to understand as you evolve as a quarterback and
how fine tune that position is to to learn that, hey,

(01:01:13):
it's not worth my health is not worth this down
or maybe even this game. It's about the greater tenure
of me being out there here.

Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
I thought you were writing down a very salied point
to make, and you were drawing a Christmas.

Speaker 5 (01:01:24):
Trip, and I was grinding my pen into a taper,
like I'm just saying this.

Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
We'll take a time.

Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
I continue talk a little high school football, and you
had a chance to talk with one of the members
of the Ohio High School Athletic Association there Mania relations
UH director Tim Street, about the big news this weekend
high school football.

Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
I can't wait to ask you your thoughts on N.

Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
I l just wait till uh, just wait till Bow's
opportunities come at I'll.

Speaker 5 (01:01:52):
Be all four then, of course. But right and yeah,
look at this new car. We will talk next.

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
Let's take a time out to continue Cincinnati Tax Resolution

Speaker 1 (01:02:15):

Speaker 3 (01:02:28):

Speaker 5 (01:02:33):
And I know, I know, I'm trying.

Speaker 10 (01:02:35):
To do it from memory.

Speaker 5 (01:02:39):
Right off, just going by the scrap, Okay, like this.

Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
Read this script, ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati Sports Station, Lights MacAllister,
Rocky Boyman. No, no great shoemaker this week. He's got
family and Thanksgiving stuff going on. We certainly understand that.
We love the fact he joined his uh most every
week during the season. There is a topic high school
football wise of great note this week, and that was

(01:03:04):
the decision by the OHSAA to go ahead and put
in place their plan for nil. They become what the
forty fifth state or he gets fort so forty four
had done it. Ohio first rejected the idea and then
came up basically with their own plan and got it approved.
And you talk with Tim Street from the OHSAA earlier

(01:03:26):
this week and he talked about the why why did
they go ahead and put in improve a plan that
they put together.

Speaker 4 (01:03:34):
Here's what he said.

Speaker 18 (01:03:35):
Our by law that our schools just voted yes on
has guardrails. It has a process for how this would
happen if our schools did not vote yes on this proposal.
What that means is the court would decide our by
law on this, and we saw how that worked out
at the NCAA level not good. So a yes vote

(01:03:57):
means our schools wanted this languge for NIL rather than
risk letting the court decide what that would look like.
You know, there's forty four other states that have already
fallen to the NIL regulation, and this was our best
foot forward on trying to allow some NIL activity, which

(01:04:18):
some of it's not bad, you know, there are good
things about it too, But this has some some regulations
that our schools thought would be a good IDEA.

Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
Explanation makes sense if you know you're ultimately going to
lose because there's forty four other states that said yes,
and the courts are just going to say, well, wait,
if there's forty four others O were doing this, OHSA says,
all right, then let's do a play in with some
guidelines and guide rails guardrails to it and put it
in so we get a little bit of control in
what we're trying to do here now.

Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
And I applaud them for, yeah, getting out in front
of it at least, you know, having some some control
with it. But I don't know about you, but I
and he laid out and maybe we'll play the sound bites,
but laid out the fact that this isn't going to
be turned into what it has turned into college, which
is not an IL. It's literally pay for play. I'll

(01:05:09):
believe it when I see it. I just feel like
there's so many little loopholes and things you can do,
and when we've seen it exploited, I've seen it, You've
seen it, and I feel like there's very easy ways
where you can stay within the parameters. But still it's
going back to paying players to come to your school
or stay at your school. That sort of thing.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Here's Tim going a little bit further into this on
things a player now in Ohio high school football, things
they can do versus things they can't do with an
il take a listen.

Speaker 18 (01:05:40):
The really short answer on what a student athlete can
do is he or she could endorse a product, to
get paid to do a commercial, could get paid to
have their image on a poster advertising a company, advertising
a restaurant, a car, whatever, similar to what you see
at the college level.

Speaker 4 (01:05:58):
But really the big your.

Speaker 18 (01:06:00):
Focus on this is what a student athlete cannot do,
and what he or she cannot do is they could
not endorse products or do anielectivities in their school uniform
on school property. They cannot do that during the school day.
And the other thing too, that's really different about this

(01:06:21):
than what we see at the college level. This bylaw
that our school's voted.

Speaker 10 (01:06:25):
On says no collectives. There will be no collectives.

Speaker 18 (01:06:30):
At the high school level in Ohio because we don't
want schools paying athletes directly like what we see at
the college level.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
Rock Guy, I think that last point is a huge
point because a collective, for those who don't understand, it's
a third party group that is basically pulling all the
resources and saying, all right, we got this big bile.
Now let's go out and pick out five or six guys.
We're going to give all this money to. You can't
have a collective.

Speaker 5 (01:06:56):
And that's certainly great. I think it makes it harder
toy for play. But to me, in my opinion, and
again we'll see how it works out, it doesn't make
it impossible that the problem L answer is there's no
way to quantify a successful product endorsement. Well, we're gonna
pay Joe Smith, you know, because he wants he's from
a local business, because he's a great player. Well are

(01:07:19):
you really paying him because you really want him to
endorse your product? And by him doing that, you see
loads and loads of business coming in your doors, or
you're a supporter of that, of the school, of the team,
and you're finding ways to keep this guy healthy or
happy and not go to another school. To me, that's
what it comes down to. I just don't I feel

(01:07:40):
like it can be exploited many different ways and not
that part of it of a job to do it.

Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
Going to another school is a big part of this.

Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
And here's Tim Street talking about the transfer policy and
how that plays with nil.

Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
Take a listener.

Speaker 18 (01:07:54):
Our transfer by law is still in effect, and if
a student transfers from school to school B, especially after
they have established their eligibility at school A, there is
the lengthy process that they go through and that will
catch most of those. Now the most common transfer, Let's

(01:08:15):
say a student is enrolled at Turpin where my wife went,
and that student and their family moved to Toledo. Well,
that's a pretty easy acceptance on the transfer. If there
is a student that goes from school A to school
B and they're only five miles apart, that's a red flag.
And that is when our office does its due diligence

(01:08:36):
to find out why is this transfer happening, and that
honestly catches most of them. Tim Street earlier this week
with you and and Eddie and yeah, that's the you know.
And I heard I heard Steve Speck last night and
I believe it was Channel five. I want to give
full credit.

Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
He was asked about this, and I'm paraphrasing you said,
I understand if a car dealership wants to having NIO
deal with with the star quarterback. He said, what I'm
not going to understand. He says, what will lead to
chaos is guys just jumping from one school to the next,
getting one good deal, then getting another good deal from
somebody else to go to the next school.

Speaker 4 (01:09:13):
That's total.

Speaker 5 (01:09:14):
Well, and if you heard my follow up question, attend true,
what are the parameters of a viable transfer? And he said, well,
how how long do you have?

Speaker 10 (01:09:23):
Meaning?

Speaker 5 (01:09:23):
There's a lot of a meaning. You can give any
reason you could say, well, I mean, you know, my
kid's getting bullied or whatever. I'm making this up at
this particular school, so therefore we think it's And then
now you're in a court battle and you're you're fighting
that out, and how do you deny that? To me,
it's just I don't want to be again, as I
always say, nobody out there, I don't feel is against

(01:09:45):
a local burger joint paying a kid a few bucks
to represent them in their business. No one's against that.
But I just I'm still very wary that it's not
going to, you know, manifest itself like that. And and
I also think this is a giant like keeping up
with the Joneses thing. I don't think anybody really wants

(01:10:06):
this in any state. But it's like, well, Yep, they're
doing it. So if you're a high school Ohio coach, right, well,
what if our star player just goes across the board,
goes Indiana or wherever state that does allow it. So
therefore we got to do it too. We don't want
to do it, but you know, and that's how things go.

Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Before we wrap up the segment, let's give a shout
out to all the schools still left and playing in
the state football playoffs in Ohio. Semi State Division one,
Rock Sane X Bombers take on Middletown Friday night Welcome Stadium.
Division two Anderson, I know you had coach and dryer
yesterday or today. Anderson thirteen and OH play Sunbury Big

(01:10:47):
Walnut twelve and one, seven o'clock Friday at History Cruise Stadium.
The second straight season Anderson is playing Big Walnut in
the state semi final Division four, Indian Hill is thirteen
and Oh. They take on thirteen to Know Shelby at
Sydney Memorial Stadium at seven and in Kentucky two A
Beechwood versus Owensboro Catholic Friday at seven in Owensboro. Three

(01:11:09):
A Lloyd Memorial versus Murray Friday at seven Lloyd Memorial
High School and Erlanger and six a Ryle versus South
Warren Friday night, seven o'clock in Bowling Green. Seven teams
from around the area. Best of luck to all you
ready for your your bombers on Friday.

Speaker 5 (01:11:28):
I think they're ready to go, Yes, sir.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
I saw.

Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
I saw point spreads today for these games and too
st X is a fifteen and a half point favors
point spreads and yeah, high school athletics.

Speaker 10 (01:11:41):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
And by the way, while we're on that note, NIL notes,
I saw a tweet today one of Purdue's best players.
I think he's a defensive player. The tweet I'm assuming
from his NIL partner or collective or agency or whatever
it was, he had signed an extension with Purdue.

Speaker 5 (01:12:04):
It's wild, it really is. It's uncharreed territory. But but
but I mean, just one last point about Ohio and
the n I l it is again, I think you
know you're you're trying to figure out, Okay, what what
does what does this mean? If if players want to
transfer to this school and transfer to that school or

(01:12:24):
transfer across states, and and how coaches are are gonna
are gonna wrap their heads around that. It's going to
remain to be seen. But I will say this, I
think it's foolish to fight it. It's a rule. You
may you don't have to like it, but you you
probably have to have to abide by it, and you

(01:12:46):
or else, guess what, You're gonna lose some players so
you can be you know, because we've seen this at
the very beginning of NIO in college, it was, Oh,
this is stupid, and this is dumb. What could be dumb?
All you want, but right now it's moving the needle
of where these players want to go. They care about money,
they want to get paid. And if you resist that
and push back on it, I feel like instead of
wrapping your arms around that, I feel like you're gonna

(01:13:07):
look You're exactly You're gonna look around and say, boy,
how come we don't have this talent of rosters we
did in years past.

Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
Ian Jeffries at Purdue. There's the tweet he signs an
extension today to return to Purdue next season.

Speaker 5 (01:13:20):
Portal management is a term I've heard from college coaches
that I talk to portal management.

Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
Well, we'll head down.

Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
The stretch, do our fantasy football fix with Dan Klaskins.
Next Cincinnati tex Resolution Power by Tope Sheldon, Roundtable Show
Long Next in Hebron presented by Postman Law seven hundred
WLW all Right, hitting down the Stretch. We saved our
best for Lax, our guy talking Fantasy football, host of Fantastics,
Insider Football, Serious exem Fantasy.

Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
We welcome in Dan Klaskins and Dan.

Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Let's keep with the Thanksgiving theme and the reasons to
give thanks some of those players who are delivering that
in the main dishes at the table right now.

Speaker 15 (01:14:04):
Yeah, especially these guys in recent weeks. And Lance, let's
start that list with Caleb Williams, the Bears quarterback. Over
last five weeks, he's QB three and fantasy seven to
one touchdown interception ratio hedaclipsed twenty three Fantasy points three times.

Speaker 10 (01:14:20):
I think Jamier Gibbs is on that list. Two.

Speaker 15 (01:14:22):
No running back has compiled more Fantasy points over the
last five weeks, and Lance, he's only played four games
in that fan so tix touchdowns, five and ten total
yards twenty two catches since Week eight. George Pickens will
get a good look at him tomorrow.

Speaker 10 (01:14:36):
He's making a case.

Speaker 15 (01:14:37):
For a big Payday the Cowboys receiver his last four
game averaged in fourteen point two Fantasy points. And Travis
Kelty's not the study once was, but still pretty good
over his last four games average and eight targets, just
under six catches nearly seventy.

Speaker 14 (01:14:53):
Five yards per outing.

Speaker 15 (01:14:54):
Once again the top five play at tight end.

Speaker 5 (01:14:59):
And Dan obviously that that this week there's no buyers,
which is which is great, but still lots of injuries.
What are we got?

Speaker 15 (01:15:08):
Yeah, well let's hit it up with the Thursday games. Obviously,
you guys talked already a lot about Joe Burrows with
arment and fantasy people are plugging him right in. He
breaks my top ten that quarterback. Obviously, Russ could be
a concern, but we are expecting game flow in his
favorite t Higgins with the concussion out to March, he
is clearly going to get some targets, but I think

(01:15:29):
might get sick. He ends up being a little sleeper there.
But uh Russie Rice and Josh Jacobs also on the
injury or board the hamstring and thee and I expect
boat players to play in their matchups tomorrow for the
Chiefs and the Packers. Assentsy good news here. He's back
in practice even without an injury designation on Wednesday after
leaving last week's game with what looked like a pretty

(01:15:50):
bad ankle injury. So he's trending in the right direction,
as is the Bucks. Bucky Irving, he's a full participant's
been several weeks since we've seen him. A debt shoulder issue.
Baker may Field, We're not quite as sure about his shoulder,
but if it's a pain issue, I think he's a
tough guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play
this week. But Marion Hampton and Trey Benson shoe running
back said we're hoping to come back soon. I don't

(01:16:12):
know if it's going to be this week for either.
More optimistic on Benson, but both could.

Speaker 14 (01:16:15):
Be playoff hitters.

Speaker 15 (01:16:17):
Ivin Kamara signline for a couple of weeks here, at
least with the knee injury, said Devin Neil there for
the Saint San thencent receivers Drake Lennon looks like he's
still going to miss this week with the knee issue.
Marvin Harrison his first practice today after that appendicitis, and
then we got Jackson Dart hopefully out of concussion protocol,
returning for the Giants. They played Monday night versus the
Patriots and Aaron Rodgers. They said he might have played

(01:16:38):
last week. I think he will play this week with
that Rich Andrey Lance.

Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
All right, Dan, well, let's keep with the theme and
instead of studs, duds and sleepers, let's go feast or
famine this week for your recommendations.

Speaker 15 (01:16:51):
Yeah, only looking at these next four games, A great
four games fantasy owners will have.

Speaker 14 (01:16:55):
These next couple of days.

Speaker 15 (01:16:57):
My feast players start with Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 10 (01:17:00):
Improved is the Bears are this season?

Speaker 15 (01:17:02):
They're still not great. First fantasy quarterbacks. Only three teams
have allowed more Fantasy points to the position, So person
for a big day. He's actually QB won for me
a week. Third team Derek Henry fifteen, running back because
had double digit PPR points first the Fangals through eleven games,
including five break in twenty three, Henry's had twenty points
in back to back fantasy weeks.

Speaker 14 (01:17:22):
Here, I think he does it three weeks.

Speaker 10 (01:17:23):
In a row.

Speaker 14 (01:17:24):
On Thursday night, And you gotta.

Speaker 15 (01:17:26):
Like Dumar Chase here coming off the you know obviously
the suspension, but I mean we know his history here
in two games last year, twenty one falls born in
a fifty seven yards five scores. We're firing him up
and then to player to the little boy Jordan Love.
Six starts first the Lions and the Packers.

Speaker 10 (01:17:42):
He's never hit two hundred and seventy five yards.

Speaker 15 (01:17:43):
He's railed, failed to hit the multiple scores in four
of those six games, so I'm not really happy with
him in my line.

Speaker 14 (01:17:50):
Up this week.

Speaker 15 (01:17:51):
DeAndre Swift, we kept their fumbles on him. Take a
back seats, kyled mong guys, and now he's got to
play the Eagles. There are only five running backs of
rushed for a touchdown first Billy this year. You're not
a single running back to the hunter yards. Swift won't
do either, and James Walling catch usten two of his
last five either boom or bus flex play wide receiver three.
But a tough matchup. You're with the Packers. You know

(01:18:12):
he's rescuing. He's real rescue and Dan.

Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
If listeners are grateful, thankful for the freedoms they enjoy,
you've got a very simple way to pay it forward.

this weekend?

Speaker 5 (01:19:35):
I do Florida Florida State? Ohow so I mean, look,
I mean both teams are struggling this year. Certainly Florida
is the three wins, fired their coach. But I mean
this is one of the best rivalry games out These
teams do not like each other. So Florida State, if
they win, could still get to a bowl. So a

(01:19:55):
lot to play for, lots of I mean, you talk
about a lot of great talent on both squads.

Speaker 4 (01:19:59):
So fun and opted to bring Mike Norvel back this week.

Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
Made the announcement he did. There you go by the
way and give me thirty seconds. I know you saw
Alabama last week. I know the competition wasn't great. What
was your impression of Alabama considering competition?

Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
Were you impressed?

Speaker 5 (01:20:16):
Were you wondering? Were you I was impressed, but I
wasn't like in years past when I found out there,
like wow, you know, Holy God. But I think offensively,
you know, they don't run the ball as well as
you would like, and they try. I just feel like
Ryan Grubbs, I think it's one of the best offensive
coordinators out there, but they do so much stuff. I

(01:20:38):
just wondered, like, let me narrow it down, narrow down
a little bit and find out what we're good at.
And maybe that's what they'll do. But that was my
thought on that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Thanks to Mike Mills for engineering. Tonight is always thanks
to Sean McMahon back of the station. Have a fantastic,
safe and wonderful Thanksgiving and we'll be back here. We'll
be back next Thursday night at the Wilder location for
the rest of the years.

It's on the mar though next week, assuming assuming you're
not hospitalized or something by that point.

Speaker 5 (01:21:12):
Yeah, I heard my wife has me arrested. That's give
it too.
