Speaker 3 (02:18):
This is such a cute story.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
There is an eighty three year old who lives in England,
and his name is Barry Reynolds. Reynolds is a grandfather
from the village of Cappelle Laferne in Kent, England, and
he was featured in Taylor Swift's Open Lite video. So
he plays a judge who gives Swift and another actor
a score of zero in a fictional dance competition. And
(02:43):
he didn't know who Taylor Shift was. Oh, he said,
I am afraid I have no idea who she was.
He did tell his granddaughters and the two were, of
course very surprised by his big news. But he said
that he did come up with an onset nickname for
her meeting her for the first time, the way she
danced and picked up dance move so fast.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
He calls her nifty.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Swifty eighty three year old Reynolds goes on to call
her kind and compassionate, and he says, Opa Lite, this
particular song is just number one around the world right now.
Was very catchy, even though I scored her as zero.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
And now the two are dming each other.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I'm sure all right.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Hillary Duff is finally weighing in, at least indirectly on
the mom group drama that's been lighting up the internet.
It's the toxic mom group, Ashley Tisdale's essay about leaving
a toxic mom group. The buzz started when Ashley published
a personal essay describing how she walked away from a
celebrity mom friend group that made her feel excluded and
triggered old high school click vibes. She never named anyone,
(03:45):
but online sleuth said, wait, we think this is Hillary Duff, Mandymore,
Meghan Trainer, though Tisdale's team insisted she was not calling
out specific people. She was talking generally about the moms
at her schools. Well, Hillary Duff has finally opened up
all about that toxic mom group she wanted to call
her Daddy podcast. She talks about her reaction to Tisdale's
(04:06):
toxic essay.
Speaker 8 (04:07):
And I have like tons of different groups of mom
friends because I have four kids, you know, So I
think I just was like, whoa, it sucks to read
something that's like not true and it sucks on behalf
of like six women in all of their lives.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
That thing had fingers. Yeah, you know, I just stopped
on going.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
But finally Hillary's saying it sucks.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, you know you never hear about Toxic Dad group.
Speaker 9 (04:33):
I know.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
La wakes up with The ellen K Morning Show.

It's a hack for happiness. It's a happiness Hacket's Things
designed to make you happy. They're always scientifically proven and
always delivered masterfully.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
I don't want that set up. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
So there's a dating expert, she says. We are all
killing our own attract powers. And this doesn't need to
be even that you're looking for a partner, right, this
could just be the attraction of life. Like you walk
into a room, you want people to be taken by you, Okay,
you know.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Want them to You don't want to repel people.
Speaker 13 (06:12):
Yeah, exactly, that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
And it's that we don't uh hold eye contact.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
So she recommends the pause and hold technique three seconds
of eye contact before you do anything. You walk into
a room, you make eye contact for three seconds really
before you answer a question. And a lot of people
don't do it, she says, because we view silence as uncomfortable.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Okay, this is such a hack.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
We rush to fill the space before speaking. It makes
us nervous when they're silenced. Do you know who does this? Who?
Jeremy Renner? He does yeh yes. How do you notice
he does it to you?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I just noticed he does it when whenever he comes
by here, he does the three second thing.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Okay, and then speaks.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Yeah, so comp it presents that we are are confident
before we rush. Rushing makes people seem nervous, and nervous
people are not attractive.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Okay, okay, So I'm gonna stare you, Ryan.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Okay, ask me a question, Ellen, and I'm gonna try
it on you.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
I'm Ellen Kin And there's a brand new app and
it wants to warn people when smart glasses are detected nearby.
It's called Nearby Glasses, and it detects Bluetooth signals emitted
by devices like meta ray bands. Makers of the app
say that we the public should know when someone close
to us may be secretly recording video and if you
live in Orange County noticing and uptick in Mosquitos, it
(17:39):
is not your imaginations. Officials say that OC has five
times more than this time last year. Experts are blaming
it on a weather whip flash in the past few weeks.
We went from cold to warm to wet real fast,
which is a rapid recipe for mass mosquito madness. And
more than ten thousand Academy members may begin casting their
OSCAR votes today. The ceremony on ABC happens Sunday, March fifteenth.

Speaker 7 (18:48):
Coast one O three point five.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, you're with us. It's Taylor Swift Coast one of
three point five. He's an eighty three year old man
that's in her open lite video. He plays a judge.
He gives her a zero on the fictitious dance contest.
He had no idea who she was. His grandkids did,
but he gave her a nickname, nifty Swifty.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
How cute is that. I love that story.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
And we're the only K morning show.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Okay, it's a therapy Thursday. Whatever's on your mind and
troubling you. Sarah Dash is here with us to give therapy.
And we got this from Darren.
Speaker 9 (19:25):
I'm a dad. I've got five kids. They're all grown up.
Two of them have had really horrible relationships with their
partners or whatever. They've come back. They're adults. They're living
here now and I'm happy they're here, but it costs
a fortune to have everybody under one roof, and nobody's
even asking me if they can help out financially.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
I want to.
Speaker 9 (19:46):
Communicate with them. I love them and I'm always going
to try to be there for them, but at this point,
they're adults, and I just want to figure out a
way to ask them, could they please also help support themselves?
Speaker 3 (20:01):
For Darren, do you see a lot of this in
your practice.
Speaker 11 (20:04):
I do see some of this in my practice, and
it's what I'm hearing is that this relationship has shifted
from love to one of obligation adult relationships, parents and children.
What you hope happens is there's going to be this
really beautiful metamorphosis into reciprocity, mutuality, and sometimes boundaries need
(20:27):
to be renegotiated.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Oh oh.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Is it as simple as just calling a family meeting
and saying, guys, I love you, but we need to talk.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
We just have to have a talk. And it might
be hard for him to even bring up but is
that the best way?
Speaker 11 (20:39):
I think that's absolutely the best way. I think that
in those types of conversations, he's going to want to
lead with love and affection. I really love you, I
love having you in the house. I'm not asking you
to leave, but I can't sustainably manage the financial obligations
that I find myself under earth.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
And why do you suppose two out of the five
who moved back in with Daddy Darren, why do you
suppose they're not thinking, wow, I should help dad, like
he's letting me stay under his roof. It's unfortunate what happened.
It's not like a failure to lunch. They had, their
relationship didn't work out. Now they're back. But why aren't
they thinking instead of this is my safe haven, I
(21:21):
should be helping out and pitching in.
Speaker 11 (21:23):
What happens is that people will mistake generosity for limitless capacity.
And this happens all the time. It happens in friendships,
family relationships. Someone's very generous and the person to whom
the generosity is being extended thinks it's limitless capacity. They
may very well not see him for who he is
(21:45):
at this time in his life, but as the father,
he probably did hold himself out as the provider the caretaker,
which is completely appropriate when someone is ten, but not
necessarily a job.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Third is different from Jim Therapy Thursday.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
I text my ex on our wedding morning as a
goodbye an exit call me and asked me to come
over and help her fix her or wash her machine?
Did I do something wrong with it?
Speaker 7 (22:14):
Time for a couple's therapy or time to walk Away?
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Therapy Thursday on the l and K Morning Show.
Speaker 7 (22:19):
Cost one of three point five and thank you.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
For all your love for therapy Thursday and our licensed therapist,
Sarah Dash. It is now going to be an iHeart
podcast also on video coming soon. We're excited about that.
But today it was all about Daddy Darren.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Daddy Darren.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
He has two adult daughters whose relationships didn't work out.
They moved back home and he loves having them there,
but they're not contributing.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
So Sarah really summed it up.
Speaker 11 (22:48):
What happens is that people will mistake generosity for limitless capacity.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
So Darren's gonna.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Have to have the tough talk.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Got to be the chief, the big guy, the boss, right,
And these are the top three most condescending disrespectful names
to call a guy.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
So we're the llen K Morning Show.
Speaker 10 (23:10):
I'm Ellen, I'm Ryan, and Social Queen Darling grandos So
this just these terms are used in passive, aggressive, or
an ironic manner.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
So do you guys ever call your guy friends chief? No?
Speaker 2 (23:27):
No, no, no, Chief. I get you'll get called that sometimes,
hey chief, and it just it never sits right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
This is why it is often viewed as condescending, and
it's frequently used to condescendingly address someone that you don't
really know.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
So hey, chief, Yes, we had someone.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Who worked here.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
She didn't know the people. She'd say friend, friend, Oh
do not.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Just don't use these at work or school, or you know,
even with friends.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Chief, Hey chief or big guy, Hey, big guy.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
That is perceived as infantilis zync and fantalizing and fantalizing
or patronizing Big guy.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Hey, big guys, big guy, you don't mean that. Stop it.
That's what's going on in my head.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Give what about this one?
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Boss? Nope?
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Well?
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Intended to be respectful, it is often used ironically, making
it a common source of irritation.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Do women have anything like this? You don't have a
version of these, do you? Sweetie? If someone called you
sweety or honey, does that bother you?
Speaker 1 (25:08):
I mean, look, it all depends on if it's a friend.
A friend could call you anything.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Really, No what I'm talking out in the wild like
you're You're like sweety, You're I don't ever feel bothered.
And someone says something like that, No, thanks, dear, dear, dear,
doesn't bother me.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Why are men the only ones bothered?
Speaker 10 (25:30):
Men?
Speaker 3 (25:30):
It's chief, big guy or boss or also champ?
Speaker 2 (25:33):
No, god, what about this? Hey sport?
