How is how's your team looking?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Our team's looking good. You know, last year was my
first year on campus and we didn't have a lot
of experience, so we went with the youth movement and
we got a lot of the young players a lot
of playing time. So now we're coming into our first
game with a lot of experience and we've also added
some new talent. So you know, year two is to
be another building year for us on building the culture.

But we feel a lot more comfortable than we did
last year going into our first game.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Well, Coach Perry, I know that the classroom is really
important to you, and I know that there's an award
most football teams give out the athlete scholar of the year,
So how do you try to keep the guys focused
on combining the two?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, so definitely we preach it student athletes, so student
comes first, and you know, part of our process the
building these young men is to make sure their next
step in life is going to be set, whether that's
going to college or jump jumping in right into a
job or earning a football scholarship. So we really preach education,
and it's just more than just getting good grades, but

how we're treating teachers, how we're treating classmates, and just
overall being a good person.

I love that. What's said number one thing that you
want to see in your athletes?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh okay, that's a great question. We have multiple things
that we're looking for. We want our community to be
proud of when they're coming to a game and what
they're watching. So I think the number one thing we
want to preach is just toughness. Being being tough and
you know, through adversity and throughout the whole day, and
it's going to be a family deal. So we preach,

you know, loving each other up. So you know, that's
loving your teammates, loving your coaches, loving your family and
just trusting in each other to get the job done.

That's amazing. What stands out to you as a coach, Like,
what do you want from your players? Every day they
show up to practice and you're probably sizing them up.
They've had a long day of classes. You know, maybe
you're going to run some new plays. What is it
that stands out to you in your standout athletes?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
You know, coming into year two for me, you know,
it's the first time I think the school has had
a football team where the coach returns year two and
it's just going to be a lot about consistency. So
I do a great job, me and my coaching staff.
I just want to shout out them. We really work
on building relationships with kids, and that's in every aspect.
So we really try to make practice as fun as

we can. But being is working hard. That's what we're
trying to preach. Working hard is having fun. And you know,
just as the overall athlete. We're a small school, so
we do have a lot of players that are two
ways that are playing offense and defense. So we just
you know, we expect the kids to come to practice
every day, work hard, and just kind of trust in

the process.

what is our favorite warm up song you guys like
to play?

Yeah, so last year we went and it was funny
because we used this song last year and we'll kind
of see how this this year goes. We didn't have
too much success last year, so we did everybody loved
the Sunshine by Roy Harris sorts and fifty cent here
and we've been playing a lot of fifty cent mini men, okay,
And that's kind of a song that's in the locker room,

the clean version, of course. And I think that's kind
of a song that we're all kind of just tying into,
you know, play than a coach is.

Starbucks CEO. He lives here in Newport Beach. He has
a one thousand mile commute each way to his new
gig in Seattle. He left Chipotle, which is based in
Newport Beach to go to Starbucks. Company agreed to let

to Seattle. They will put the bill for up to
three months while Nichol searches for a house in his

Well, our guys have put in a lot of time
in the summer and in the spring. We've done a
lot of passing league and just working on a lot
of fundamentals.

We had a great scrimmage last Thursday at Sunnyston Park,
and I think they're really excited to finally get somebody
that's not wearing the same color uniform as them.

When you go in the locker room before the game,
what is that like? What are you telling your team?
Your guys? You know your power for us?
Speaker 6 (27:06):
Well, I mean I think a first game of the season,
I really like to talk about the first This is
you know, someone's going to score the first touchdown, someone's
going to have the first interception, someone's going to have
the first quarterback sack, and you know, we should celebrate
those things and look for those things. But at the
same time, we should be looking for the person out
there that's given the most and looking for the least

in return, because those are people we can build something with.

a team is really in all areas of life. It's
at work, it's your family, it's your football team. What
are some of the secrets that you've learned over the year,

winning and not focus on the scoreboard. Do you focus
on your individual effort and the scoreboard is going to
take care of itself.

How is how's your team looking?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Our team's looking good. You know, last year was my
first year on campus and we didn't have a lot
of experience, so we went with the youth movement and
we got a lot of the young players a lot
of playing time. So now we're coming into our first
game with a lot of experience and we've also added
some new talent. So you know, year two is to
be another building year for us on building the culture.

But we feel a lot more comfortable than we did
last year going into our first game.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Well, Coach Perry, I know that the classroom is really
important to you, and I know that there's an award
most football teams give out the athlete scholar of the year,
So how do you try to keep the guys focused
on combining the two?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, so definitely we preach it student athletes, so student
comes first, and you know, part of our process the
building these young men is to make sure their next
step in life is going to be set, whether that's
going to college or jump jumping in right into a
job or earning a football scholarship. So we really preach education,
and it's just more than just getting good grades, but
(01:40):
how we're treating teachers, how we're treating classmates, and just
overall being a good person.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
I love that. What's said number one thing that you
want to see in your athletes?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh okay, that's a great question. We have multiple things
that we're looking for. We want our community to be
proud of when they're coming to a game and what
they're watching. So I think the number one thing we
want to preach is just toughness. Being being tough and
you know, through adversity and throughout the whole day, and
it's going to be a family deal. So we preach,
(02:09):
you know, loving each other up. So you know, that's
loving your teammates, loving your coaches, loving your family and
just trusting in each other to get the job done.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
That's amazing. What stands out to you as a coach, Like,
what do you want from your players? Every day they
show up to practice and you're probably sizing them up.
They've had a long day of classes. You know, maybe
you're going to run some new plays. What is it
that stands out to you in your standout athletes?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
You know, coming into year two for me, you know,
it's the first time I think the school has had
a football team where the coach returns year two and
it's just going to be a lot about consistency. So
I do a great job, me and my coaching staff.
I just want to shout out them. We really work
on building relationships with kids, and that's in every aspect.
So we really try to make practice as fun as
(02:58):
we can. But being is working hard. That's what we're
trying to preach. Working hard is having fun. And you know,
just as the overall athlete. We're a small school, so
we do have a lot of players that are two
ways that are playing offense and defense. So we just
you know, we expect the kids to come to practice
every day, work hard, and just kind of trust in
(03:18):
the process.

One of our favorite questions to ask every coach is
what is our favorite warm up song you guys like
to play?

Yeah, so last year we went and it was funny

too much success last year, so we did everybody loved
the Sunshine by Roy Harris sorts and fifty cent here
and we've been playing a lot of fifty cent mini men, okay,
And that's kind of a song that's in the locker room,

since the same time last year, and it's staying on

bankrate has found that withdrawing cash from an ATM machine

Well, I mean I think a first game of the season,

those things and look for those things. But at the
same time, we should be looking for the person out
there that's given the most and looking for the least
