Speaker 1 (00:00):
So you got travel plans, do you, well, when's a
good time to go, when's a bad time to go?
Clay Ingram joins us now from Triple A Alabama. Wait
a minute, Claire, I just thought about this Triple A Alabama.
That's actually Quadruple A.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Isn't it. It is actually and a point of confusion
all the time.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yes, all right, So if you're not already on your
way to the beach, is at too late? Are they
are better times than others to go?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's not too late, No, I mean it's it's definitely
going to be crowded no matter when you go. You know,
with the fourth falling on a Friday this year, it
gives people options. They can take a three day weekend,
or they can take you four days of vacation and
turn it into a nine or ten day family vacation
get away pretty easily. So it kind of spreads the
traffic out a little bit. But if you're heading to

(00:45):
the beach, that's going to be the busiest places in
the Southeast to go with. The beach is down there,
and it's going to be backed up for sure. But
if you are headed that way, the best time to
travel is in the morning. Most people are going to
be on the roads in the afternoons. So if you
can go in the morning and the earlier, the better,

(01:06):
you're going to see a little less traffic. Or if
you can wait till after seven pm and go, you know,
when it's dark outside and everybody's pretty much already at
their destination, it should be a little better then as well.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Well, the good news is, I guess if you're traveling
to the beach on Friday, which is the holiday, not
as many people be on the road because work is
not happening. And it's okay, am I just wishful thinking here?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Well, not many people going to work, that's for sure,
but there'd be a lot of people heading somewhere because
they're not at work. So it's yeah, it's it's kind
of a wash there. And you know it's going to
be busy no matter where you go. And you know,
we tend to think here in Alabama that we know
we're going to the beaches or central Florida maybe, or

(01:53):
a cruise port somewhere, and with the yeah, there's a
lot of Alabama is going. But the truth of it is,
we get people from about half of the United States
coming through Alabama headed to the same places. So yeah,
it's not just us. We get a lot of drive
through traffic in addition.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
To well, I'll tell you ninety five the corridor from
Northeast all the way down to Miami is a busy
one this time of the year for sure, and especially
during spring break season. I remember one time Judy and
I were helping Michael move down to Boca when he
was coaching down there, and we didn't realize it was
spring break week. So we're driving a U haul down.
They were thinking we'll go halfway and get a hotel.

(02:31):
Guess again, all hotels booked by spring breakers. And we
slept in front of you haul at a restop for
like four hours, sitting straight up staring at the neon
lights of the vending machines. It was just horrific. But anyway,
I digress. So with Friday, you know, I've always said,
you know, the worst time to go down to the beach,
thirty A anywhere along there area, golf shores wherever. Fourth

(02:54):
of July week is like, I mean, the most insane
time to be there. I'm hoping you know, most beach
bookings Saturday to Saturday that on Saturday, people will be
gone and it'll starting to lighten up a little bit.
But odds are in the middle of July, no matter
when you go, it's still going to be crazy going
and coming. Is it going to be just as bad
on the back end if you're staying all the way

(03:14):
through next week?

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah? I think overall the worst day to be on
the road is going to be Sunday. You know, people
are heading out on their trips at various days through
the week this week and Friday too, but pretty much
everybody's going to be heading home on Sunday, and so
I think that's going to be by far the worst day. Yeah.
So if you can, if you can wait till Monday,

(03:37):
come back, or maybe come back on Saturday or something,
I think that would be a smart thing to do
if you can.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Yeah, whether it's this weekend or next weekend, the thirteenth
weekend right right right then.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
That applies pretty much all the time, but especially with
a high traffic holiday period like this.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
So bottom line is the best time to go is
get up and get out of here by four o'clock
in the morning and headsouth.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah. Yeah, if you can do that earlier, the better
yeah for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Well I'm certainly used to that, so we should be okay.
All right, buddy, We'll have a great fourth Clay. Always
good to catch up with you.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Thank you, Thanks JSI
