Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now John Putner to talk a little bit
more about this president of take Back Action Fund and
also a Bush two thousand and eight. John, I gotta
tell you, this guy is left of left and even
you know, approved and wanted and mandated tampons and boys'
bathrooms in schools, economy, immigration, energy, everything. This guy is overboard,
(00:21):
Yes he is.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
And you make a decision in campaigns at this stage
do I need to be rallying my base or do
I need to be reaching out to the middle. And
obviously this decision was made that even though they have
rallied their base a couple of weeks kind of over
the excitement of Biden not running, is that they still
feel like their word is going to fall apart and
that Josh Sapiro might have done that.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
You know, he's too pro Israel, et cetera. So this
is a base move.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
And that's interesting that we're talking about this right after
another member of the squad ant Israeli squad lost their congressional.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Primary, so you know, this has just happened too.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
So they're just going, we're going so we're going to
turn it out versus we're going to persuade in the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
That seems to be the strategy.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
This is set well after the President Trump attempted assassination
and then showing up at the convention. There was a
monster grand slam home run hit for the Republicans, with
both of those incidents taking place in a crest of
just enthusiasm sweeping the nation, and then Joe Biden decides,
(01:25):
I'm done. We're going to point in place in without
voters weighing in Kamala Harris as the candidate for the
presidency for US Democrats. Oh my gosh. And now the
flurry of excitements, you know, comes in the form of
millions of dollars for Kamala. They're starting to get all
jazzed about it. She experienced a wave. Is this, this
(01:47):
instance of picking Tim Walls as a far lefty to
be her VP pick the reset that Donald Trump needed?
Speaker 2 (01:57):
It could be, it said, is that they weren't confident.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
That the base was there forever, and so they had
to go there. You know, a.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Shapiro pick would have made Pennsylvania very difficult, I think
for Trump to come back and win, you know, popular governor.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
There, and they didn't go there.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, So even though they've got this kind of weak
or two of enthusiasm and.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yes, serge for her, and she certainly looked strong in
the balls.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Mean, the race would look fifty to fifty if it
were today, And the question is can she keep that
momentum going? And they felt like to keep it going,
they have to keep all their progressives who are out
knocking on doors all over the country. They had to
keep them excited. So, yeah, Trump needs to take advantage
of the fact that a lot of the outreach it
was done through the R and C convention right here
(02:43):
in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
You know, here's that chance to grab the middle again.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
But is it the middle? Are they going after what
has now become the base of the Democratic Party or
is the socialist squad left side of it who she's
catering to, you know, still a minority part of the
Democratic Party. What is the Democratic Party today? Is it
more centric or is it extremely left as you know,
far as it can go. I'm hearing from some Democrats
(03:10):
and some of that squad stuff they're not buying into.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, no, they're definitely not.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
And I think the Democrats felt like for their ticket, Boy,
we're seeing young people go away, you know, young kind of.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Left of center, thinking we're not liberal enough.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
You know, anytime a party this late is having to
try to solidify their base, you know, it's that's not
usually good for a party. You know, you kind of
want to do that when you're fighting, doing your primary
battles and everything else, and then really reach out more
to the center. And they just I think they're trapped
where they can't do it. They have the lesser of
two evils in their mind. They go with Shapiro and
(03:47):
suddenly people in Michigan again, who are really pro Homas,
you know, a smaller segment, but they're more worried about
losing a few percent there and that costing of Michigan.
That's what they think was happening in Michigan, that they
just weren't that they were leftists, you weren't going to vote.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
So that's that's the real opportunity. They had to go
left with this bick.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
In their minds and hope that means you know, Trump,
Trump can grab the center and center right.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
So wow, Well, in your mind, do you believe that
the squad style of the Democratic Party is growing in
number and the moderate part of the Democratic Party is shrinking?
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, it is, but in the voting remembers it. Yeah,
it's not that it's a majority or anything. It's just
that if you've kind of got your ten percent, let's
just say it's ten percent for argument's sake, and instead
of ten it's you know, half of them aren't voting.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah, you know, well that's what the Democrats can't lose.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
They can't lose ten percent they were counting on and
have they become five or six percent, you know, so
sore they're playing to the fringe because they cannot lose them.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Doesn't mean it's a part of their party.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I'm sure a lot of Democrats who wish the party
had gone that part left to wish it wasn't considered
such a negative to support Israel Electric Bureau did.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
But I think they're stuck. All right.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Well, soon to be seen exactly how much of the
moderate base may say, you know, I'm out. But it's
still to me feels like, well, even though they might
not agree with the squad side of things, that modern
Democrats in this country are still going to be voting
blue no matter whom. All right, John Putner, thank you
about it.
