Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jonathan Savage joins us now our fox horse running in
London on the latest with what's happening with Israel and
Iran is now it looks like Dai Iatola is weighing
in from Iran saying, oh yeah, a direct attack against Israel.
He is commanding the Iranian forces to get busy and
let's go, Jonathan. So it's not a question of if.
It sounds like it's a question of when. How bad

(00:21):
could this potentially get?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
It does sound like a question of when. And Reuter's
report that Iran is meeting with representatives of its proxies Hamas, Hezblah,
Islami Jahad, the who these possibly involved in these talks
to discuss exactly how it's going to respond to this.
It is a situation of significant tension and significant risks

(00:43):
where all sites say they don't want an all out war,
but are taking risky steps seemingly willing to risk war. Nonetheless,
Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu last night talked about
being involved in an existential war against what he called
Iran's axis of evil, and in recent days two senior

(01:04):
figures and Hesblah and Hamas and five three senior figures
and Hesbela and Amas have been confirmed dead, two of
them confirmed at the hands of the Israeli military.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Well, I got to tell you, there are not pushing
back a rolling I mean not rolling over over in
Israel either. They are pushing back absolutely. The Israeli Air
Force major general there has promised that there is nowhere
too far for Israel to strike if needed, and he says,
the Israeli Air Force defends and operates in all areas
of war enveloping the state of Israel. Dozens of aircraft

(01:34):
manned and unmanned, you know, ready to go and prepared
within minutes of any scenario. And they say, look, you
know you want to bring it on, We'll be ready
and we'll bring it back to you. So how far
does this going as far as who gets involved? Is
it just going to be Iran in Israel? Or are
we going to start seeing some potential allies on both

(01:55):
sides coming in to help.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Let's look back to war happened earlier this year Israel
rail struck part of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon, killing
senior Iranian military commanders. Iran's response to that was pretty
swift and pretty significant. They sent a barrage of about
three hundred drones and missiles towards Israel. Now the vast

(02:17):
majority of them were deflected away and intercepted. There was
no significant casualty rate or damage, but it does show
what Iran is willing to do given the opportunity. Now,
Iran has to be said, in failing to commit any
particular damage in Israel that occasion, it risk being accused

(02:38):
of of not being competent or able to defend itself,
but it did hope it would deter Israel from doing
anything else to I suppose upset Iran, but in killing
one of Iran's major allies on Iranian soil under their noses,
that again risks Iran feeling humiliated and remains to be

(02:58):
seen exactly what they will do in response. Now there
will be people talking to around saying, limit what you're
wanting to do, Calibrate what you want to do in
order to revent this escalating if you truly want to
avoid all at war.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, it seems to have been tit for tat over
the years. You know, you attack me at this level,
I'll attack you at that level as well. I won't
go above it. But I'm going to do the same.
So my question is Israel and Iran both have nuclear capabilities.
God forbid we get in this direction. But with that said,
when you talk about the Iron Dome over Israel and

(03:31):
it deflected those you know, drones that were coming in,
does Iran have the same type of defense as far
as missiles, Because clearly one got through and got them
right there at the inauguration ceremonies going on and got
that leader you know, and took them out. So what
kind of defense do they have there in Iran relative
to Israel's defense?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Well, it doesn't look particularly good right now, does it.
Jt the fact that Israel was able to apparently Israel
doesn't comment on this, but fire a rocket from the
air that targeted very precisely one building in Tehran and
killing Ismahania of Hamas and his bodyguard, and that Iran
didn't see it coming, wasn't able to stop it. It

(04:13):
doesn't look like their defense systems are particularly competent. So
you know what can Iran do if Israel wants to
strike again? Now? I think Israel is probably going to
wait to see what Iran does next, but Iran will
also have to think about what the long term consequences
will be. You talk about nuclear powers, Well, Iran denies
that it's ever had a nuclear weapons program. It's not

(04:35):
known to currently have any WMD's weapons of mass destruction,
but it is suspected to be wanting to develop them,
and that's why Israel had over the years targeted Iranian
nuclear scientists.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yeah, all right, very good, Jonathan, thank you for the update.
I appreciate you, buddy,
