Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us now Roy O'Neil. I'm sure Roy has the
inside scoop on this and has spoken to the governor
about this. So what's going on.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
All I can say is it's not me. I'm not
the VP choice. Yeah, it's you know, we're all trying
to read the tea leaves. They are launching this nationwide
tour with the new ticket from Philadelphia. Governor Josh Shapiro
is from the Philadelphia suburbs, So we're all reading the
tea leaves here to suggest that Shapiro, but the campaign
(00:29):
has said, don't read too much into it. I don't know.
I think they're just trying to get as much free
media as possible and try to hype this thing up.
I think it is going to be Shapiro. I think
Mark Kelly is probably the dark horse from Arizona. I
don't think the rest really bring her much of anything
when it comes to the electoral college.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, I think you're right there. In Pennsylvania is certainly
a big state. It would be nice for Kamala to
be able to grab Pennsylvania. Secretary voodhaj Edge. I don't
think Pete he was maybe on the shortlist in the
beginning of the discussions, along with Governor Whittemer and the
governor from Maryland More, I believe his name is More. Yeah,
(01:09):
he was also on the list as well.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, he had been for a while but then apparently
fell off. I don't know if he took his name
out or but you know, he was doing the Sunday
talk shows trying to promote her candidacy. Yeah. But you know,
it's a mix of you trying to find someone who
can help you on the electoral college map. You're trying
to find someone you could work with, someone else who
balances out your skill set. You know, Donald Trump chose
(01:35):
a mini me in his case, right as someone who
believes it many do the same things. Whereas I think
Harris is trying to find someone to fill holes in
her resume.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
So I guess, Kamala Harris going to Philadelphia, this is
coming up, I guess on Tuesday. Yeah, Tuesday, that's right,
hold her first rally there in Philadelphia, so.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, and then often Wisconsin, Detroit, Rawley, Savannah, Phoenix, Vegas.
So it really is the first bar and storming. Yeah,
we're of this new ticket and then we're two weeks
out from their convention.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, what imagine is as soon as she does announce
that who the VP is going to be, that person
will immediately take off in the campaign trail as well.
I guess that's the plan, right, So.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Those cities I just listed, those are all joint appearances.
So it'll be Harrison with her new VP in Philly, Wisconsin, Detroit, Rawley, Savannah, Phoenix.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
All right, very good. Also, Roy's seeing some of these
unemployment numbers now, claims are going up again. What's happening here?
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, and that's got Wall Street a bit spooked, as
we saw from some of the numbers yesterday. But look,
this is what the FED had been trying to do,
is to cool off the economy. And we're going to
get a new unemployment data for the month coming up
in about ninety minutes, so that's going to be the
national number. But the week to week jobless claims, let
me just look up the Alabama number. Oh good, came
(02:59):
in number forty. So you want to be at the
bottom of this list. This is there in unemployment insurance
claim So Alabama came in forty one last week, which
is good. But we are seeing pockets of weakness, especially
in the tech sector in places like Silicon Valley, in
places like the Seattle area, you know, home of Microsoft
and Apple. Also Massachusetts, which also has a big high
(03:21):
tech quarter. We're seeing some weakening there. And then news
this morning that a big chip maker is announcing what
fifteen percent job cuts.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Wow, here we go again, Roy, thank you so much.
Have a great weekend, buddy. We appreciate you.
