Speaker 1 (00:00):
Scary situation yesterday over in Georgia at Fort Bragg as
one of the soldiers over there, a sergeant took his
own gun and shot five other soldiers. Good news is
the bad guys in custody. The good guys are injured,
but not any fatalities in this. Brigadier General John lewis

(00:20):
committing the soldiers at Fort Stewart forgetting this all under control.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I know that his soldiers in the area that witnessed
the shooting immediately and without hesitation tackled the soldiers subdued him.
That allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody.
These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yeah, this was Fort Stewart, not Fort braggnas spoke there.
Joining us now for a little bit more on this
is our correspondent, Royal o'nil roy Good morning, welcome in.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
So no motive yet on this obviously, investigation still continues here.
But pretty scary situation.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Well, yeah, and their track this idea that this was personal,
that the suspect here in this case, a twenty eight
year old sergeant, was in a dispute with the one
of the victims. The one who was shot in the chest,
and perhaps that's what led him to plan this attack.
Now we don't know that exactly or the exact reason
behind that, but we suspect it was a personal feud.

(01:21):
And sadly, four other soldiers there on the base were
also injured. Now, as you said, luckily all of them
are expected to survive. The weapon that was used was
a glock that was owned personally by the shooter who
bought it in Florida where he was Naturally he was
from Jacksonville. He had bought that in Florida earlier this spring.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, once again, bring it to your General. John Loeb
was talking yesterday about the shooting and the state of
the victims.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Shortly before eleven o'clock, an active duty soldier assigned to
Fort Stewart, Georgia, shot and wounded five of his fellow
soldiers here on Fort Stewart. Thankfully, all are unstable condition
and all are expected to recover. The alleged shooter is
in custody. We re established security, I have lifted all

(02:08):
lockdown measures on Fort Stewart and there is currently no
threat to the local community.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Roy This place is quite big. It's the largest army
installation east of the Mississippi, two hundred and eighty thousand acres,
eighty eight hundred people there on that base. This could
have gone really ugly.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, I think it's eighty eight hundred maybe active duty,
and then there's support and personnel and families that live there,
so it's thousands more. Yeah, it could have been worse.
But again, this looks like more of a personal feud.
We haven't figured that out for sure yet, but that's
the current track of the investigation. And thankfully, as you
heard in the SoundBite there, the other soldiers were able

(02:45):
to subdue the suspect, who has been what nearly more
than seven years of active duty. He had not deployed
to a combat zone and otherwise had a pretty clean record,
so there was no red flag going into this. The
New York Times was able to interview the suspect's father,
who said he had requested a transfer off that base,
that he had made complaints about experiencing racism on the base,

(03:08):
but all those claims are still being investigated.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
All right, very good. I know you've been following the
housing situation right now. The best place to sell and
buy homes these days, costs and affordability. New research out
Where is the best place to be selling your house
these days?

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Well, you know, certainly one of the hottest markets right
now is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Believe it or not. The
median price per square foot up eight percent year over year. More,
there's a twelve percent increase in the number of homes
being sold year over year. And if you put your
house on the market in Milwaukee, it's probably under a
contract within two weeks. There's about sixty five percent of

(03:46):
the homes are sold within two weeks of being listed. Chicago, Philadelphia, Minneapolis,
and New York New York, New York are other very
hot housing markets cooling right now though Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Denver, Colorado, Sacramento.
Las Vegas is at the bottom of the barrel.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Wow, how about that Vegas changing a little bit with
the dichotomy of the entertainment districts there too, becoming more friendly.
It's not the old Vegas. What are folks in Vegas saying?
Have you seen in any of the stories on why
this is happening there and the concern you know, with
the hospitality industry there.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Yeah, well, it's a few different things are happening one
of the biggest sources of tourism for Las Vegas was
Canada a lot. For a lot of reasons, Canadians are
not visiting the US, so it's either that the fifty
first state stuff or the bigger one. The factor I
think is the dollar, which the Canadian dollar had been
really undervalued compared to the American dollar, so it was

(04:45):
a lot more expensive for Canadians to come to the US.
So those are some of the factors. You've also got.
Vegas have been targeting the high end of the high roller,
as it were, so a lot of people are feeling
shut out while they have more and more local casino options.
You don't have to go the Vegas to gamble anymore.
There are many more casinos much closer to home, so
Vegas has a lot more competition.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
All right, Very good Roy, thank you for the update.
Appreciate you this morning.
