Speaker 1 (00:00):
Evan Brown joined us now our Fox correspondent in Miami,
and a couple of things here. I want to get
your thoughts on the bill first, Evan, and then talk
about these twenty states that are suing the Trump administration
after they've released some private Medicaid data to deportation officials.
So apparently they got her done late this morning, I
guess earlier this morning, late last night, three point thirty
(00:21):
in the morning. All right, finally, and we're just waiting
on the formality of the signature. Your thoughts on all
of this worked out? Boy, it was a long process.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, to be honest with you, I haven't really paid
too much tention to it because I'm not a congressional reporter.
I just I know that it's got past and that
this is probably a good thing for President Trump, who
needed a legislative win. Much of what President has done
since retaking office in January it's done by executive order,
(00:49):
which I guess is good to get things started, but
you need legislation to have some kind of permanence. And
on top of that, I think most people, despite the
whatever a little new and little nooks and crannies are
in this big, beautiful Bill. I think most people are
worried about those tax cuts. Yeah, because if the goal
doesn't happen, and something doesn't happen, then we all go
(01:12):
back to the pre seventeen tax structures and all of
us could be selling out a lot of money to
the irs, and none of us want that. Well.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Medicaid was one of the big issues as well in
all of this, and Republicans were pushing to clean things
up and kind of doge the whole process of where's
the money going, who's getting the money? Are these folks
eligible or not? Should they be getting the money even
if they are US citizens? Or can they get off
the couch and go work. I mean, the Democrats spun
this into like, oh my god, people are going to die,
(01:41):
children will starve. Look with the Trump administration doing they're
collapsing Medicaid. No, not so frue.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
At all time. They kind of do that a lot.
I think it's getting a little bit of a to
be a little bit of a tired act.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah yeah, yeah. So the states, what's going on with
this lawsuit?
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yea, So California and nineteen other states are suing the
federal government because the Trump administration has done something they
didn't like, and that is visa VHHS making or providing
Medicaid data to the Department of Homeland Security and specifically ICE,
because there is concern that Medicaid programs in a number
(02:24):
of states have been paying for healthcare for illegal aliens.
A number of these states do allow non US citizens
to enroll in Medicaid, and that's probably okay because, first
of all, the Medicaid is a state by state program
(02:46):
and they have determination rights as to who they want
to enroll. But the question is is are those non
US citizens here legally or illegally. Someone here legally on
some kind of visa for an extended stay may need
to make use of the Medicaid system for one thing
or another, but people who are here illegally, that's I
(03:06):
think where a lot of people might draw the line.
It's where the Trump administration is drawing the line. So
these states are suing saying that this is an invasion
of privacy and that they're the ones tasked with Medicaid enrollment,
not the federal government. Ultimately, what I find the most
interesting here, and the suit was filed I guess, just
a couple of days ago, but so far there's been
(03:26):
no attempt by the court to issue some kind of
nationwide injunction because the Supreme Court said you can't do
that anymore. So I don't know if the Court will
try to issue some sort of injunction that just simply
applies to the district where the suit is filed, or
maybe something a bit larger that maybe encompasses the twenty
states that are suing. I would expect the Trump administration
(03:48):
to fight back on something like that. But what's interesting
to me is that there wasn't that insta injunction that
the US government must halt this act across the fifty
states in all US territory.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Right, And it may be still in the middle of
the process of all of that that could lead to
what you're describing Evan as well. And you know, if
I'm a bet man, I'm thinking, yeah, this is another
one of those things that may end up in the
US Supreme Court's hands, because there's been so many of
those things that have been pushed to the Supreme Court,
and they seem to be moving quicker than you know
(04:22):
later on a lot of the decisions that affect mass
amounts of people like this. So Trump's gotten some wins
and he's gotten some losses on these big lawsuits like this.
But once again, you know, common sense, Can you please
speak up a little bit here in the room with
the rest of the people are doing all this. Yeah,
it makes sense to me. If you're here illegally, then
you're not entitled. If you're able to get off the
(04:44):
couch and go work, you shouldn't be, you know, entitled
to it. They're trying to clean it up and put
the money to, you know, to the folks that best
deserve it. And I think that we're probably not at
the end of this yet, but that's my take it
on anyway, Evan, have a great Fourth of July weekend.
Thank you, buddy,
