Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Quinn and Cantara, Picks 106.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
All right, so coming up on Saturday, it's a benefit,
the Parkinson Center YMCA in honor of Barb Girard. We've
got this event going on over at Dino Petrucelli's studio
featuring Liberty DeVito, who's on the phone right now, legendary drummer.
We know him from all his time with Billy Joel.
Thanks for making time, Liberty.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yeah, sure. This is great. It's going to be a
great clinic to me and Corgi Lang, too, you know?

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Corgi Lang from Mountain, right? Mountain, right, yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
From Mountain, yes.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
So what are we looking at here? What's happening?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
What are you going to be doing?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Well, we talk about our careers, and then we also
play a little bit. I'll play you some songs that
I've played with Billy. I'll play you some songs that
I play now with another band I have, the Slim Kings. And,
you know, we go on with that. What Corky's doing,
he'll probably play the mountain tunes.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
So this is Saturday. Doors are at 2.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
This is Petrocelli Photography Studio on Albany Shaker Road in Latham.
You can go to rockysmusicstudio.com for more information.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Do you know Corky?

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I do. I do know Corky. He's a very funny man.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Do you drummers hang out together? Like, if you were
on tour with a few different bands, would all the
drummers be hanging out?

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Oh, yeah. They all come and see the bands, you know.
There's a lot of events that happen here in New
York City at the Cutting Room, and we all go
to the Cutting Room. We hang out there.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
So you're still, like, you're still doing the clubs and
doing the shows and seeing live music and all.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
That, Liberty?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Oh, I'm still doing it. I'm doing this clinic, and
then the next night I'm playing at the Brooklyn Bowl
with my band, The Slim Kings.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
That's awesome.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
At what point did you realize, I got a career
in music? This is my job forever.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
I was playing a club with my band, Topper, who
eventually became Billy Joel Band. And I put my hands
on my... drums. And I said, I think I'll be
doing it for the rest of my life. Nice. You know,
it just dawned on me like, wow.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
And are you never going to, are you always going
to live in New York?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You seem like a guy who would never move out
of New York.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
If you had to go somewhere else, Liberty, where would
you go?

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I did spend nine years in Florida, but I hated it.
All right. So I came back to New York.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Awesome. I picture Liberty sucking the marrow out of life,
going to the theater, going to the museums all the time.
But I could be wrong, right, Liberty? You could just
want to just chill at the house once in a while.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I do chill at the house. Yeah, bro. Listen to music,
you know. Just mess around. And then I go to
the studio three times a week with the Slim Kings.
We have a record deal with this company in Toronto,
and we put an album out, and now we're recording
a new album.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Very cool. This event is coming up on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's such a great event that's going to benefit the
Parkinson's Center YMCA. It's Liberty DeVito and Corky Lang drumming
to beat Parkinson's.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Tickets available.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Log on to rockysmusicstudio.com. Are you connected with Rocky? Do
you know these guys?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah, I've done clinics at his place.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Okay, so you have a relationship with him. So it's
really nice of you volunteering to do this.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Appreciate that. Yes, absolutely. We weren't quite sure.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
It's It's fantastic. It's a good cause, and I love it.
I love it.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
What's a lesson that you've learned the hard way, sir?
I feel like nowadays I'm learning a lot of lessons
the hard way.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
The number one lesson that I love to tell kids,
if they want to be a professional drummer, marry a
woman that has a job.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Sound advice.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Legendary drummer Liberty DeVito. We'll see you Saturday over at
Dino's place.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Thanks, Liberty. Sounds good.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
See you, pal.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Thank you.
