Laffey with a mild Bengo and Paul Cook who played
drums with the Sex Systems, and we're all from London
and it kind of started making music and stuff together
because we knew each other from London and before we

know it, we had all this great material. So this
is really cool that we get to release it all.

We were just listening to Iceland Bill film. It's a
it's a different sound. How do you how do you
explain the sound of man Rays to people?
Speaker 2 (00:51):
So it's really diverse. It goes from everything from like
you know, the one minute it sounds like New York
Dolls and it sounded like the Guns and Rows or
def Leppard, even the Police, Slian Robbie the sex Pistols,
All of these different.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Influences come out.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
So it's a combination of all the above.

Actually and the new the new single I Surrender, Uh
Debbie Blackwell Cook, Is that a relation to the sex
pistol Cook?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
No, none at all. But she's an Yeah, she's my
wife's godmother, Debby, and she she sings with me in
another band that we've got called Delta Deep, which is
kind of a hyenergy high. Yeah, there you go, So
so we do we do that and yeah, no, it's amazing.
So at some point there would be we're actually going

to probably do a couple of shows if we get
a chance now and go.

So it's longtime guitarist for def Leppar. We're talking to
Phil Colin. His project is called Us a Man Raised,
Lockstock and Lockstock and Barrel is the five CD box
at the Complete Recordings that features Phil and the guys
he was talking about. One of the guys you mentioned
is Simon Lamb. See he's a musician and a novelist.
That's a pretty as a renaissance man, right there, isn't it, Phil?

Well, Yeah, yes, and no, I mean when you when
you write songs as a there's a thing, you know,
artistic expression.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
He could be paint and stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
You could be writing poetry. It all comes from the
same place. So I think songwriting all the above really
so okay, you know, I occasionally I write some short
stories myself haven't come out yet, but I'm the same
same deal. And with Simon, his books are great. I've
read them and it's like, wow, this.

Is really cool.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
So it's just an its you can't scratch. You kind
of have to let things come out in whatever way
they kind of pose, you know, a kind of direction
if you're like, so, yeah, I get it for sure.

Lock Stock and Barrel, I assume everything, man, raise anything
in there that really sticks out to you that you
want to let people know, well, depends.

If you want to smash you in the face. Rock song,
I mean, there's a track on the Punk One Groups
rock album called over My Dead Body, and it's kind
of again it's kind of influenced by like Iggy and
the Stooge is, but the more of that of the
song is basically an update of Sympathy for the Devil

by the Stones. It's kind of got the same kind
of theme and everything, and when you listen to it
like that and yes, yeah, this is full on rock song.
It's actually in the face.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Are you one of these guys feel that picks up
the guitar every single day?
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yeah? I mean I've got everyone got one in the
bathroom and yeah we haven't got one right here, I'm
sitting outside at the moment.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
But really, guitar every day, absolutely, right.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
So I'm reading this is this could be like one
of the bigger touring years for you as far as
def Leppard goes in years, am I right? Is that
is that true?
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Every year is like that? You know?
Speaker 2 (03:51):
We just we just come back from India just a
little few about two months ago, come back from India
that was amazing, Vegas earlier on sea as parts was incredible.
And then we're just off to Europe on Friday. Actually,
so I think we've got South America later on. But yeah,
we've been. It's it's constant, you know. We kind of
believe in what we do and we just want to

share that with as many people as we can. And
the band's getting better and better and better.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
So that's the other thing.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
What's what's what do you prefer like? The residency at
Vegas or actually being on.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
The road a bit of both.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
I find the residency is actually more kind of exhausting,
but you know, you're in a you're stuck in one place,
so that that has a totally different kind of dynamic
to it. But having said that, I actually honestly think
that that some of the Vegas shows we do on
twelve of them were probably some of the best shows
definitely that's ever done in our career because we had

a brand new kind of theatrical you know, screens and
all this stuff, you know, the sphere when that came out,
and everyone's like changing the production we had.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
With some of the people that that's done that.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You know, our stuff and you have the singing got
better than everything. So we're we're really.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
On a on a roll right now, which which is
really cool.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
So were you able to take some of that Vegas
showmanship and bring it on the road.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Absolutely. We actually took it to India, but we were
outdoors so we couldn't have all of it there. So
but we're gone to Europe and we're playing arenas, so
the same kind of thing as a theater, you know,
you can control the atmosphere with the darkness and stuff
like that. You know, when you're outdoors, you can't because
there's stars as lights, there's all sorts of.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Stuff going on.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
But in the air or an arena you really can
control that that dynamic, so it kind of really splashes,
you know. So yeah, we've got extreme opening up for
us in Europe and that's going to be an absolute glass.

you refresh my memory? You weren't you? On like a
Deep Purple album cover? At one point.

My first content I ever went who was the what now?
The Brixton Academy used to call the Brixton Sundown, And yeah,
me and my cousin knock into the front row and
there was a photo taken and it was in made
in Japan, the Deep Purple Live album that used photos
from all different tours and stuff, and there we were.

Yeah have you ever have you ever autographed one of those?

Actually, yes, Man, you probably autographed about almost everything, right.
