was in La at the Forum to watch the Rush
show last night, how was it sal Overall?

I'd give it an A for effort, you know first night,
a couple of jitters, you can tell Alex, maybe a
little bit low in the sound mix at times, but
overall it was a great show. The audience was pumped
these feet. These folks started lining up at one o'clock
in the afternoon. You would have thought you were at
the Taylor Swift show and that was for merchandise.

Yeah, Surprisingly, there were some.

Females in the audience. I was, you know, because you know,
it's always male dominated at a Rush, but yeah, there
a couple of women came along, so you know it, Uh,
you know, maybe the audience looked a little better.

We were watching ZANDAD from the Forum. Uh, it looks
like a hell of a big show.

They looked good up there.

Yeah, and they dug deep too, So this wasn't like,
you know, just Limelight and Tom Sawyer and Subdivisions. I
mean those were played, but they went pretty deep. They
did ten songs that they hadn't played since twenty thirteen
or earlier, including Limelight by the way, which was surprising.
So you know, they're really mixing it up. They rehearsed

upwards of forty songs for the tour, So in the
cities where they're doing multiple nights, they're going to be
doing different set lists each night. The staples will be there, like,
like I said, Tom Sawyer and the Spirit of Radio,
things like that, but you know they're going to dig
down deep into this catalog and look, this is the
first time where they haven't had to learn new music,

meaning you know, they didn't have to play their most
recent album. This is free. You know, Free will no
pun intended of their catalog. They can go through now
and say okay, let's do this this and that. We
don't have to concentrate on the new album or anything
like that. So it's going to be interesting to see
how they mix up the setlist.

Rush played for about two and a half hours. Now,
all eyes are on the you know that the drum
kit and Anaka niles am I saying that right, how
did she fill that that chair?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, you said it right. Well, somebody asked me if
I closed my eyes, what I noticed the difference. And
I have to be honest with you, I wouldn't have
noticed the difference. Oh wow, she yeah, she she was great.
She really, I mean, look she she had a big
seat to film. We all know that. Uh. You know,
Neil Pierret wasn't just you know, some run in the

middle of drummer. You know, he was very different from anybody. Uh.
But she's not a clone of his either. You know,
she's a groove drummer. You know, she really gets in
that pocket. But she can play, and she can play smoothly, quickly, efficiently.
And the audience during Tom Sawyer, which Neil always said
was the toughest song of all for him to play

drums too.

Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
That was the last song of the second set before
the encores, and of course it's known for its drum fills,
and she nailed it and the audience let her know it.
And it was very sweet to see the smile come
across her face. And yes, I will take credit for
using the words sweet when talking about a Rush show,
because I don't think that word ever has been associated

with them.

I was not sweet, but I mean it had to
be emotional. Right, they five songs in I was reading like,
they go into a distribute for Neil right along road.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Did get here? You know, yeah, yeah, they don't even
they don't even intro it, you know, All of a sudden,
the video. When the show opened, it was a screen
in front of the stage. Well that that lowers and
well along with video screens behind the stage, but that
screen doubled as a video screen, and all of a
sudden it goes into some black and white footage of

Neil playing drums with a voiceover from Neil, And in
the first set, the voiceover was him talking about his
approach to playing drums, how playing drums enabled him to
build self esteem as a teenager. And then after the
video was done, then the band would do a song
that they felt was closely associated to him. So for

the first set they did Bravado, which they hadn't done
since twenty thirteen. And then in the second set again
video screen lowers, blah blah blah, clips start playing black
and white again, and it's Neil talking about grabbing life's adventures.
Don't wait for them to come to you. Always have
a suitcase packed and always look for that next adventure

and always look forward, never behind. And after that, now
this was interesting. So when that ended, then that video
screen rose and all of a sudden, Getty walks out
with this blonde woman and I go, well, she's too
old to be Neil's daughter, who's only sixteen. I go,
I wonder if it's Neil's wife, But it wasn't.

It was Amy Mann, and they did.

Time Standstill and of course Amy Man provided the background
vocals on that original version, so and they hadn't done
that since twenty eleven. So yeah, So those were the
two tributes.

So I mean this, if you're a Rush fan, Yeah,
fifty something towards is a must see this summer if
you can.

Oh yeah, yeah, look, you know, here's the official numbers
that they've had that Rush fans have had to wait
for last night. There was three nine sixty two days
past between their last show, which was also at the
Forum here in Los Angeles August first, twenty fifteen, or
if you want to just simplify it, ten years, ten

months and six days.

Yeah, while they've been waiting a long time, and they
were rare in a go last night, and they were
a very loud audience when those lights went.

Down, they were loud. Hey, look the audience lost a
little steam in the second set. I think the pacing
of the show also is something they'll probably work on again.
