Speaker 1 (00:00):
Basketball is my faith.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I like to wait that you were looking down the court,
just like out the the microphone, the Jay Moses Malone.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I like slam. Thus faith, you played against the alley.
I like the picking mode. I like the giving because
it's basketball.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Mister happy, Nick sure in the NBA Finals morning?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Everybody, Now, John, are you coming on our show this morning?

Speaker 4 (00:28):
It's John S Milk as a professional sports reporter or
as a Knicks fair bold.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Are you a season ticket holder?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
I am.

Speaker 5 (00:37):
I've been a season ticket holder since I believe two
thousand and seven of two thousand and eight.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Oh wow.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
And do you remember nineteen ninety nine when they last
played in the end finals.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Oh? Absolutely, I remember nineteen ninety four when they played
the finals before that, So I was I was a
senior in high school back in nineteen ninety nine when
they last played the Spurs in the finals twenty seven
years ago. But I've been saying this to be believe.
Though it's a same team when they're playing the Spurs,
this is really much more like the nineteen ninety four
trip to the finals against the Rockets. I was thirteen

(01:08):
that year, because in ninety nine the Knicks got there.
Patrick Ewing was hurt, Larry Johnson had a bad knee.
Tim Duncan and David Robinson were waiting for them, and
no Nicks fan, including a really optimistic, excited, you know,
senior in high school. No one really believed they had
a chance to beat the Spurs that year. But this
year they have a real chance to win the same

(01:28):
way they did in ninety four. When you went into
face Alajuan, one of the best centers in NBA history.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Waiting like a Knicks jersey right now with like a
Knicks hat, with like Knicks crap all over your dead
straight brim.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Not currently, but but I will be in about twelve
hours when and now, Now, tonight's gonna be fun because
my daughter has like really gotten into this. She's eight,
that's awesome. She's gonna turn nine in August, and she
really wanted me to take her to an NBA Finals game.
That's not going to happen, but I am going to
take her. But I'm gonna take it to the watch
party at the garden tonight. They're basically playing Game one

(02:04):
at Madison Square Garden on the on the screen at
the arena. So we're going tonight even though it's an
eight thirty stars.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
She's gonna get home like midnight. My wife's gonna kill me.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
But it's okay if you know how any chances you're
gonna get it this?

Speaker 5 (02:16):
Yeah, cool, dude, No, that that is exactly right. And
I already promised her if they ever do win this thing,
she is getting taken out of school for the parade,
So that'll be fun.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
So I don't know the Knicks.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
When is the last time they won a championship nineteen
seventy three.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Wow, this is exciting.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Yeah, let me ask Let me ask a hard hitting
question here is if anyone asked this question.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Could Thibodeau have done this?

Speaker 4 (02:39):
This is the coach they fired last year after going
pretty deep in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
No, look that that. I think that is a great question.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
And I'm a Tom Thibodaux fan. I was surprised when
they fired him last year. I understood why they did it,
but I but I was surprised just because he got
thestern Conference finals, right, yep. But no, I don't think
he could have got them playing the way they are
now moving the ball on offense, the way they are
playing in different ways, being as flexible as they are

(03:08):
playing more.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Guys off the bench.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
All that stuff together, I do not think Tom Thibodeau
could have them playing as well as you are right now.
Just to put this in context, guys, they thinks about
eleven straight playoff games, all right, that that is an
NBA record. In those eleven playoff games, they're point differentials,
the amount of average number of points they've won games by.
It's not just the best point differential in the history

(03:30):
of the NBA playoffs, it is the best point differential
for any team in any regular season or playoffs in
the history of the NBA. I know that is how
dominant they've been.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
We had that stat last week.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
But does that mean anything going up against this Spurs team.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
No, And that is another really good question, because no,
you're right, it's a great question because the Spurs are
better than any team the mix have played in the
playoffs this year, and it's not particularly close. The Spurs
are awesome. They're really really good. Victor one be if
he's not the best player in the league now, he
will be shortly. He's gonna win a lot of titles.
But look, I think the Knicks are playing really good basketball.

(04:12):
If they continue to play really good basketball, they have
a chance to win it all. I still think it's
a coin flip series. I think it's a fifty to
fifty shot here.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
But look, it does.

Speaker 5 (04:21):
Matter because if you're playing good basketball, that's what's going
to help you win this thing. And but they've had
ten days off too, so I think how they come
out tonight it's important. They They they like eight or
nine days off before the last series against the Cavs,
and it took them, like it took him like three
and a half quarters to really getting back to playing
their best basketball. And they had that crazy comeback in

(04:44):
the fourth quarter to win Game one.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
But you can't do.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
That tonight because that's not gonna work against the Spurs.
The Spurs are too good. What kinds people are going
to be?

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Court said in New York, It'll be ridiculous, Yeah, right,
it'd be crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, all the stars come out.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Hey, John, I heard this belts number one on that list.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
By the way, Milk, I heard this this question on
Sports Talk. If you could start a franchise, if you're
starting an NBA franchise and you could pick from any
player in the history of the NBA, who would it
be and would when would Wemby be in the mix.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
In the history of the NBA. No, Wemby would not
be in the mix for that. No, I don't think yet.
I think you're looking at probably Kareem le Bron. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Will. I think Will would be on that list.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
I think that's the group, those four guys, and I
think Magic and Bird would probably be at the back
end of the conversation, but not Wemby, not yet. Look,
he's only been in the league of three years. He
has never gone to the finals before, so I think
in four in three or four years he would. He's
a really good chance. He's in that conversation, but not yet.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
So it's a seven game series, Nick Spurs. It starts tonight.
We're gonna get John schmelt on record who wins and
in how many games.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
I am not a reliable narrator on this, I will.
I will tell you that ahead of time. It is
not my profession at this point to to cover the
New York Knicks, though I watch enough games that I
might as well get paid for it, even though I don't.
I think if the Knicks do play as well as
they've been playing, uh for this series, that they will

(06:22):
win this series in six games and close it out
in Madison Square Garden next week.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
In Game six, the Spurts the hub court.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
Advantage, and then I can only imagine what this city
is going to be like, because remember, guys, unlike baseball
and football, where it's split Giants Jets, splits the Yankees Mets.
There's about three Net fans that that was in New
York City, So pretty much the entire city are Knick fans.
And I can't tell you how many people that you

(06:50):
see walking around wearing Nick stuff and they're just randomly
shouting out the strangers also wearing Nick stuff.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Go Nicks.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
This play.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
It's almost like a small town right now. The way
this place is, it is absolutely crazy. And if they win,
it is going to be absolutely insane. And if they don't,
or if they do, let's be honest, I'm probably gonna
cry like a baby.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
I can't wait to see what happened.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
That's excited.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Love that about you, John, Enjoy tonight.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
We will wake you up early tomorrow and hopefully be
talking about a Nicks winch Well, we appreciate all the
time this morning.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
If they win, I'm not going to sleep If they
love that might not sleep, so.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
I'll be ready for you.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Out to the West now he's got the knicks in
six thanks. Mony picks one up.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Sight quinnin Canta every single morning.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
