Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Steve Caporizzo.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I know that voice anywhere, Cantera.

Speaker 3 (00:04):
Hey, Mr. Caporizzo, thanks for making time for us. We
appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Absolutely. Love you guys.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
A legendary meteorologist here in the area for 35-plus years,
Steve Caporizzo, who is partnering, is Pet Connection partnering with
Earl B. Fiden for a second annual Cooking for Paws
event coming up this Saturday.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
He just said he loves you guys. Now, I'm going
to go ahead and assume that's PIX 106. As you
don't know us too well, But I want to just
be folded into that maybe that you might love us someday, Mr.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Caporizzo, because we're huge fans.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Well, thank you very much. I really appreciate it. I'll
tell you a funny story about when I first came
to Albany in 1989, right? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
My radio station was? Classic Rock, Pix 106. I love it. Yeah,
and I still just love classic rock.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Hey, let me ask you guys a question.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
You would know better than me. And then we'll talk
about the big event. If I grew up, my classic
rock is like 70s into the early 80s. Is that
considered oldies or classic rock now?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yeah, well.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
It's classic rock.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
That's solid classic rock.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
It might cross over with classic hits, but now... Well,
early 70s, maybe? This is really a Dr. John Cooper.
This is his department, but I mean, now, Steve, we've
got Pearl Jam and Lit, and so we're kind of
trying to find that right mix, you know?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
But still got to go to school.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well, I was.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, back in my days, it was Queen, ACDC, Jay Giles.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
We're still here for that.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
He's a Kiss fan, too, of course.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
So you were just a listener.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Didn't you work? Did you ever do any forecasts for
Pix 106 or The Wolf or something?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
When I came here, I met up with Mason and Shan.
And so I started doing radio with Mason and Shan
for many years. And then when they left, it was
Wolf and Maroney, and I worked with them for many years.
And then, you know, I eventually moved on to other things. But, yeah,
I was a part of Pix for probably 15, 20 years.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
And why didn't you ever come back to us?

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, did anyone pitch you coming on the Quinn and
Cantera show?

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Well, you guys can... I can be on your show
anytime you want, quite honestly.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
All of a sudden, like, the relationship ended when we
came to town.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
I feel like 14 years has gone by.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Listen, guys, it was... There's a story behind that we
can't talk about. Of course. I love it. And I'll
tell you what happened, and we'll leave it at that.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
No worries. I'm not worried about it. We love you, man.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
We're talking to Steve.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
I love you guys, too.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Steve Caporizzo. He's going to be with us to the
Earl B. Fine Latham location, or will be there, I
should say, to help out with his Pet Connection event,
Cooking for Paws, over there at the Healthy Pet Center. Hey, listen,
you know, we're, we're to real show. So we haven't
talked to you. So sorry for the loss that you suffered. Uh,
so great to see, um, how you're handling it and how,

(03:06):
how open you are for everybody to talk about it with.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Well, I think, um, I think for me, it's doing
what I know she would want me to do. And
I keep stepping, I keep trying to take steps forward
and not back. And, I'm going to be honest with you.
It's hard. Since my beloved wife passed away, my partner,

(03:31):
I've lost three of her dogs have passed away. And
I lost my mother-in-law this past weekend, who I absolutely adored.
It's been, I always say, God doesn't give you more
than you can handle. But I've had five tremendous losses
since January. And it is a It is a struggle,

(03:55):
but I have to. There's a purpose. There's a reason
why I'm here. I don't know what it is sometimes,
but I just keep trying to step forward, and that's
what I'm doing.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
The fact that you're so public with it and such
a public personality is helpful.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
And this El Nino scares the crap out of me.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
I feel like it's good to have you in the
wings during this El Nino this winter.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
It's important.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
We've got all kinds of things to move ahead with here.
You want to talk about El Nino at all?

Speaker 1 (04:24):
You've got to think about the good in your life
and not dwell on the bad and the pain. Because
if you do, we all know it's going to drag
you down. And I have some wonderful family and friends
that have guided me through this journey.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Well, and you are putting a lot of time. I'm
sure it's helpful to be busy with all of these
Pet Connection events you're doing. How many events do you
have this year? I think I'm up.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
You know, it's funny. It was back in April. You've
seen the movie Shawshank Redemption, right?

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Of course, yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
It was a favorite of my wife and myself. And
there was a scene in there where Andy Dufresne is
talking to Red in the courtyard of the prison. And
I happened to be flicking through the channels, and that
scene came up. And Andy Dufresne said, you can get
busy living or you can get busy dying, Red. And

(05:24):
I didn't think much of it. I flicked past it.
And the next morning I got up and I said,
I'm sitting here and I'm getting busy dying. I have
to get busy living. And I started scheduling all these events,
all these adoption events, fundraisers, galas, golf tournaments. I think
when I'm all said and done in November, I'm going

(05:45):
to take a break in December, I think, early December.
I would have done about 25 fundraisers or adoption clinics.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
That's amazing. And the one this Saturday is going to
have 10 different adoption availabilities there for you.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, 10 different local rescue groups from across the capital region.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Quinn and I will be there on the grill. I
know there will be fun.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
You guys are going to be cooking?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, we were supposed to be Rick Orlando, but we
couldn't do it, so they came to us.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
We got you instead of Rick Orlando. We're in trouble.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
I know.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
You got Cantara instead of Rick Orlando.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I'm bringing my finest apron, Steve. Don't you worry.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
You know, when I cook hamburgers on a grill, they
end up being hockey pucks. So anything is going to
be better than that.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Awesome. We'll be all right.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Steve, crazy dog lover for years. I have a question
for you.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Sure.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
I have a rescue pet from Puerto Rico, and I
have a designer dog, a Vizsla, from Worcester, New York.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Am I going to be shunned for that?

Speaker 3 (06:48):
I'm shunning him for you, Steve.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
He's shunning me a little.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Bit for it, but I'm insane. I'm a crazy dog
maniac like you.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
You've got a Soto dog from Puerto Rico that we
do bring. We've had many of those over the years
on Pet Connection, which is amazing. Puerto Rico is just
terrible when it comes to stray dogs. I won't get
into it, but it's just horrific. So we get some
of those dogs up here, which thank you for doing that.
You know, I'm a true believer in rescue.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Of course.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
It doesn't matter where they come from. I prefer senior
dogs more. My speed, my wife and I always adopted
senior and hospice pets. That was our thing. And I
still have a lot of senior dogs in my home,

(07:38):
but There's nothing more rewarding than rescuing a dog, and
that's what this weekend is all about at Cooking for Paws.
Noon to 3 p.m., Healthy Pet Center, just south of
the circle, right next to Earl B. Fidens. They are
great animal lovers. I love them. A local business, and

(08:00):
you know me, I love local businesses. Both of them
are local businesses. I'm going to have some Pet Connection merchandise.
I'm going to have some Lisa Cap Legacy merchandise for
my wife's foundation to help senior and hospice pets. So
it's going to be a great day. I think there's
going to be ice cream for the dogs.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Fantastic doggy ice cream.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
You are, uh, we, we, we are lucky to have
you here in the capital region. Thank you for all
that you do. We look forward to catching up on Saturday.
We'll be at the, I'll be fighting a connection in Latham.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
That'll be the first time we actually meet in person.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
I know I've seen you from across the studio room,
but I've never talked to you.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
I'm still nervous. I can't wait. I'm going to give
you a hug.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Look out.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
I look forward. I look forward to seeing you guys. And, uh,
thanks to, uh, PIX 106 for giving me the opportunity
to be on the radio with you guys. Look forward
to Saturday. It's going to be a great day.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Thank you, sir.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Take care.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
It's Quinn and Cantera.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
All right, guys.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
PIX 106.
