Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, all day long, We're gonna think it's Monday,
but it's not. It's Tuesday. We had yesterday off for
Martin Luther King Day, and I'll be honest with you,
I needed the extra day because Saturday was a lot. Saturday,
I drove up to La to go to the Big
Alter Ego concert at the Kia Forum, which was insane,
(00:23):
absolutely insane. So basically, my daughter, who's sixteen, she's never
been to a concert, which sucks for her because she's
a big music fan and likes all genres of music.
You know, it's a big Taylor Swift fan, but like
likes classic artists and she forced to listen to, you know,
stuff I like. So she actually likes a lot of
(00:43):
rock bands, so she likes everything. So things have come
up that she's wanted to go to, like Sabriana Carpenter
when she was in town. That right, I would have
brought her.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
That it was great, Oh okay.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
But it just hasn't worked out for some reason that
timing wise or like, you know, just hasn't worked out.
And so I've known that she's wanted to go to
a show for a really long time and she had
mentioned you know, this Alter Ego show. She's like, oh,
you know, do you get to go to that? And
I was like, oh, if I wanted to, probably, but
you know, I don't know. It's in La so it's
(01:17):
you know, kind of pain but whatever. And so knowing
that and knowing that she wanted to go, I actually
was able to get tickets and be able to bring
her to Alter Egos. So that was one of her
Christmas presents. So she freaked out, and so we were
kind of trying to figure out, well, how are we
going to work this with you know, Deborah and my
son Jack, Like are they just going to stay at home?
(01:39):
Do I get them tickets?
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Jack's not gonna want to go to the show. He's
not the biggest music guy, not really, I mean not really.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
It was like Mario Luigi on the One.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Out Right, really a smooth jazz guy.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Smooth jazz.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
I don't know where that I'm dead seriously why he'll
listen to smooth jazz? But I don't know why. Now
are like more music, like instrumental jazz? Stop it don't
know where. He's a weirdo.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
He plays baseball as a walk up theme.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
We should be smooth oph No, So I just knew
he was not going to be down for this. So
we're kind of trying to figure it out. And then
I suggested, well, Debra, why don't you we're going to
be in la I'm going to get a hotel room.
Why don't you bring Jack to Universal and you guys
do that for the day, and then while we're at
(02:32):
the concert, you come back and stay at the hotel
and we'll meet you at the hotel. And so that's
what we ended up doing. So they spent the day
at Universal, we went up checked in the hotel, and
then we were going to go to the concert. So
that was sort of how that was going to play out.
So we were in a hotel over in the you
know area, over by where the Forum is, and things
(02:53):
did not get off to a great start. First of all,
there was a kind of massive accident right by Pendleton
driving up there, so that delayed me by like thirty minutes,
which was annoying. I hate that. It's brutal. And so
then we finally get there and Taylor is getting ready
for the concert and I hear her kind of scream
(03:15):
in the bathroom, and I'm like, what's going on? And
so I go over there and she dropped her necklace
down the drain and I'm like, oh, Taylor, unbelievable. And
I could see the mood of the night immediately just
starting to drop and like the look on her face
and like I can't believe it. And I'm like, this
(03:35):
is going to ruin everything. I know her. I know
it's going to ruin everything. And so I go, all right,
hang on, let me call maintenance. This should be easy whatever,
let me figure it out. So I call maintenance. The
guy shows up and doesn't speak a lick of English,
not even a little bit where I can we can
kind of communicate. So I'm trying to tell him, you know,
(03:55):
my daughter dropped her necklace down the drain. And he
walks over, turns the water on, and I go, what
do you do? I go, I go, no, the thing
is down in the d and he and he's looking
at me and he goes it clogged, and I go, no, no,
there's something down in there. And so I literally go
(04:16):
reach over him and I turn it off and I
go no, And I'm trying to pantomime necklace.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Right to Google translate. You know, was texting and you
could translate.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I don't even know how to do that, so I
don't know what I'm doing, And so I tried to
explain to him, you got to take the you know
how the pipes underneath the sinks, you know in hotels
room where it curves. I go, you got to take
that off. It's in there, yeah, you know. And so
I'm like trying to show him and like get a wrench,
and I'm like, pretty much could have done to myself.
But finally he kind of understands, picks it off. We're
(04:51):
able to get the necklace. Night is saved. So I'm like, Okay, thank.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
God that happened to me one time.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
It was right before bub this past year and I
dropped absolutely one these gold earrings that I'm wearing. That's right,
And I called down to maintenance. I didn't think they're
going to be able to get it, but they got it.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
They got it luckily. You know, the pipes are pretty accessible,
so it's not that tough. But when they didn't speak English,
it was kind of tough. So whatever, no big deal.
So we get over to I decided I'm on an
uber to the forum because I'm just like, I don't
want to deal with the traffic. I don't want to
get out of there.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
In like for LA events, like.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
You know, what's crazy? What is sixty? We had a
parking pass, there's still it was completely sold out. The
show sold out. Parking was sold out, so if you
didn't pre pay for parking, you were out of luck,
which who knows who knows that? I wouldn't have known that.
And so I was like the whole the whole show.
(05:49):
I mean, there was a lot of cops. It's not great.
So of course we get an uber and we get
the worst slowest uber driver in the history of the world.
But I was thinking about Emily the whole time, like
the amount of things you would have said.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Oh, I'm running late, I'm running really later, hurry.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Up, no, and none of this. And so we get
to the forum and she doesn't know where to drop
off zone. There probably is, but she doesn't know. Well
it was it was like it was really bad. It
was really bad. She was an old Asian female lady
who just I mean, she was clueless and just didn't
(06:30):
know where the heck perfect storm it was. And so
we start circling, just continually circling around the forum, just
around and I'm like, is she going to pull in
somewhere like just drop And so finally she gets to
the point of where she's just she doesn't know what
to do, and so yes, and so we're just sitting
(06:51):
there and finally I go, I'm getting out. We're getting out,
yea and I and she's like, you're gonna get out
and I go, yeah, we're getting out.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
This is I feel like if Sky was in that uber,
she'd still be.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Get so you're right, You're so right. Not okay, Parliament.
So finally we just jump out and I'm like, this
is ridiculous. And so now the wild Goose Chase begins
to try to figure out where our credentials are. We
got credentials and so it was weird. So they have
(07:24):
like this VIP check in booth and I'm like, that's
that's it, and so I go up to there. No,
those are just for tickets. So if you got left tickets,
then you go get them there. And I'm like, who
has paper tickets anymore? Everything's on the phone. I don't
even understand, like what's going on. And so I'm like, Okay,
well where do I go? And they're like, oh, there's
another place over down by the loading deck where you
(07:48):
go get your vip lanyard or whatever your credentials. And
so I'm like all right, And so I got to
walk all the way around the other side of the
forum and I go. There's like several different kind of tents,
and so I go to one tent. No, that's where
security is, Okay. Then I go to another tent and no, no,
I'm literally walking like NonStop around trying to find this
(08:10):
other tent. So finally it's way in the back and
behind these trucks and all this stuff. I don't know
why it was there. It was like the weirdest place ever,
but I see it, says iHeart check in blah blah blah,
and I'm like, okay, I guess this is it. So
we finally get our credentials, and now I'm in this
back area and I don't understand really what's going on.
(08:32):
I can see all the trucks are.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
There backstage on no, not backstage.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
But it's like where the loading is, like the loading dog, yeah,
you know. So it's like bizarre. And so we're walking
around back there and I'm like, I don't even know
where the exit is. Anymore, like where is this? And
so I see this giant tent that's sort of in
front of us, and I go, oh, that's got to
be where we go. So we walk in and I
see that it's catering and I go, oh, that's really cool.
(08:58):
I didn't realize there was going to be catering. Like
that's super awesome. I can save a bunch of money,
Like this is great. What food? So it's a full
buffet like you could everything you can imagine, steak, chicken, salmon, veggies, potatoes,
a full dessert bar.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
So it's not just a stack of pizza.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
No.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
I mean this thing was like full event catering. So
I'm like, wow, this is awesome. And you know, Taylor's
eyes are super big. I mean, she's crazy. She's just excited.
She has a credential concert like this, I know. I'm like,
this is it's all down here from here. And so
we go to get our plate and go get in
the line for the buffet. Well there's a guy that's
sort of standing there and he goes, oh, where's your ticket?
(09:38):
And I go ticket, I go, I didn't receive a ticket,
And I go and I just showed him my credential.
I go, oh, I have is this? And he goes, oh,
go ahead, and I go okay, and I'm like kind
of looking around. I'm like, what where are we? And
so we go get our food and I sit down
and I realize, oh my god, we are in the
(09:58):
catering area for the roadies, for the crew, the ringers
and all that stuff. And I go, I don't think
we're supposed to be here.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
What do I tell you? Whenever you have a credential,
just do whatever you want until someone stops you. And
if they stop, you go, oh no, I have a credential,
and then just go okay, Like whenever I get sideline
passes for like a football game or something, it's always
supposed to be for specific areas. But I just keep
walking and if they stop, you just turn around and
look point the credential and okay, because because those security
(10:27):
guards are they're just they're just our timers.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
They don't care. I remember what you said. I acted
like I was supposed to be there.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Yeah, they tell you all you gotta leave.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
I would have just said that guy told me to
supposed to be here. Yeah. So we had some It
was great and so uh then we headed into the show.
So the way they did it is they started the
show with Cage the Elephant, and you go, that's kind
of crazy. And the reason why they do this is
because they want people to arrive for the whole thing
(10:55):
on to you know. So the entire arena was packed
at seven clients because I guess they knew Cage was
going to be on first, and Cage brought it. Cage
was awesome. I was I had never seen Cage the
Elephant before, so they were great. Uh, and then you know,
you you had the kind of the other acts. There's
an act from San Diego, which I was like, I
had no idea. What was their name? Jamie? Almost Monday?
Almost Monday, So they're from San Diego so that was
(11:18):
kind of cool and as I never heard of him before,
and I'm like, that's weird that I've never heard of
him before. But but they're playing a big show, so congratulations.
So I was cool for them.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
And it feels like almost Monday. All right, you guys,
yesterday off and it's but.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Today I know that I have a lot more to say.
That's gonna be it. So I'm sorry, Okay, can you bad?
So the show begins. You know, we watch to Case
the Elephant. It was great sitting there. Uh as I'm
sitting there, you know, occasionally we would stand. You know,
I could tell Taylor really wanted to stand. But I'm
(11:55):
old now, and so I got to pick and choose
my moments. So my plan is I'm not and come, yeah,
I'm good, But if.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
I'm standing, I want the person that I came with
the stand.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
That's how That's how she felt. And so luckily Jamie
and his girlfriend at one point stood and I go seeks.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
It was Jamie rocking out.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
That's a whole other story. Jamie is basically his girlfriend's muse.
So all she does is film him non stop singing songs.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
But she films him so because an Instagram boyfriend always
films the girl, right, yeah you think.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
But like Jamie is into the music and so he's
singing along, headbanging, doing all this stuff, and all she's
doing is just filming him.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
But I followed Jamie on Instagram, decent follow Oh he
doesn't post a lot of this.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Yeah, no, I don't know where these videos lie.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
She just just what do you do with these videos?
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Yeah? I mean it's like nonstoff. Yeah, he knows what's happening.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Performing a leather jacket.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Of course, here's a rock star. So so I'm sitting
and you know, I'm watching the show. This is like
third band in so we still got a long way
to go, when all of a sudden, the woman behind
me spills her entire drink all down my back. All
(13:15):
down my back, I mean, and it was a full drink.
And I'm like, I think it was a vodka because
it didn't smell that bad, but I mean, I mean,
and I'm like, oh, and she goes, oh my god,
I'm sorry, I'll get you napkins. I go, what is
that gonna do? I literally had to wring out my shirt.
I'm like, this is crazy. And then she never came back.
(13:35):
She went to go get it. She was so embarrassed.
She never came back. Yeah, I'm just like, this sucks,
but I got I tried to tell Taylor, this is
part of going to a cosser, part of going to
a concert. So it is what it is. And so
the last three bands were complete fire. I mean Sublime,
which is one of my favorite bands of all time
(13:55):
and one of my daughter's favorite bands. They were amazing.
So the only thing that was kind of a bummer
is I guess Jacob broke his leg at the previous
show that they did, which was like a month or
so ago, and so he comes out in a scooter
and he's insane. He's like, you know, knocking into things
and driving almost driving off the stage and doing all
(14:16):
the kinds of crazy stuff, and he was just he
was a maniac. And then when he'd want it because
he wanted to stand, and he'd use a crutch and
then he'd throw the crutch because he'd get frustrated and
do all these things and it was just it was
a wild, wild scene to see him up there. But
I mean, he sounds exactly like his dad. I mean,
it's so wild, like it's crazy. And what I loved
about all the last three bands is that it was
(14:38):
just hit after hit after hit, you know, I mean,
you only have a short time when you do those
kind of festival type things, and so I love that
they just did all hits. And so although they did
do a tribute to Bob Weir and the Grateful Dead,
they did one Grateful Dead song, which I was like.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Touring or come on, are they still doing a guitar rik.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Yeah, get out of here.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Oh my god, there's a video of these nuts.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Twenty one pilots are crazy. We actually saw them at
our iHeartRadio Music festival about I don't know even know
how long ago, seven years ago, and it was sort
of the same sort of thing where they're insane, Like
they play in the crowd, Like the lead singer goes
and jumps in the crowd and he sings in there.
He literally ran throughout the entire arena singing songs. And
(15:24):
then they'll hold up like boards and he'll stand on
the board and the audience is just holding them up.
They did it with a drum set.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
I saw some videos floating around that it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
It's absolutely crazy. But they were nuts. But to be
honest with you, I've never seen Green Day in concert
before green Day brought it one of the best performances
I've seen in a long time, where they came out
and they started with American Idiot and it just didn't stop.
It was just hit after hit after hit, energy like
through the roof.
Speaker 6 (15:53):
I wonder when bands get a little bit old kind
of what I was thinking, you know, like when you
go see guns and Roses, is it gonna be what
I want?
Speaker 2 (16:00):
So you're saying green Day like.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Green Day brought it.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
I mean I was.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I was really blown away by Green Day and I
was like, man, that is.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Great, unbelievable, great one still no matter what I mean.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
And Hall of Famers, yeah, I mean so, and they
were amazing, so really stoked I was able to see it.
So it was a great show man.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
It really was Taylor's taking.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
She had the time of her life. She had the
absolute time of her life. And I told her, I go, hey,
just head's up. It ain't always going to be like this,
Like honestly, this is you know, top of the tops,
like you're getting treated really well here. But but a
cool forst show. It's really cool for show. So super
awesome stuff. Man, if you got to go and win tickets,
great on you. If you got to, you know, buy tickets,
(16:41):
got on you. And I'm telling you right now, when
they come back next year, get tickets because it's worth
the drive up town.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Say one thing to Jamie posted on her instant story
of the show Rock one to five to three Eddie
playing the air guitar air Base and it's one of
the funnier videos. You're watching it. I watched it back
like five.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Yeah. I mean when you slap at the base out loud,
when you slap at the base, you've got to really
get after it.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
I mean, your sixteen year old daughter is right there.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I mean she's seen this her whole life. I mean,
this is Yeah. I brought the heat bro. Oh yeah.
It was like, is that guy twenty one pounds? Okay,
I don't think no, I think they thought that
