Speaker 1 (00:00):
We haven't even had a chance to talk about our
Thanksgivings yet. We've been talking about so many other things.
But yeah, Thanksgiving was last week. Now, a lot going on.
First of all, Emily, I got to know, what did
you were you asked to make this year? You go
over to your sisters every year.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm sure it was a hit.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
You were on appetizer duty for years then, you know,
I think she was on rolls for a few members
then and then she got upgraded to potatoes. And it
was the one year four got invited and we had
a pepper mishap all the potatoes.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Robert left the lit off the pepper when I went
to shake it and went everywhere.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Potatoes And so where are we at now?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
So I was taking and asked to do potato duty again.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Going back to that, well, potato duty, it's honestly one
of the easier things.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
I mean, I know, trust me, I would rather make
something more elaborate. But but my sister is the greaming
castle girl. My mom's a stuffing lady.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
My dad definitely, So that was a little Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yes, so I got coated on potatoes, Dan, Dan, I
mean for the last time him a bunch of times.
And then I also was kind of told and suggested
to bring a pie, two pieshade, and so I decided
to make them homemade.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
You did, but I did. Store brought crust. Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
You were asked to bring a pie, and then you
decided to make two pies.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
My sister said, bring pies, pies or pie.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
We were talking about pies, and I said, I'll just
make both of them, like because I was I was
trying to help her out.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Wow, so storeboard crust though, I mean, it was just
it's like, so pumpkin and then what else? Pecan? Oh,
pecan pie.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
We're a pecan pi family. I knew that somebody else
is going to be bringing pumpkin. Wait, sorry, I made
apple and pecan.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Oh. I made an apple, and you had pumpkin pie.
Somebody's bringing pumpkin.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Somebody else brought pumpkin, but I made the homemade apple
La pie.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Three pies.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Not many people either. There was only like five or
six adults.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Why did you make two pies? Because my sister.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Likes pecan, I like pecan, my dad and the kids
like apple, and then I don't know who likes pumpkins,
So I need to make sure I had enough. Yes,
but I did that potatoes turned out good.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
I thought, yes, so good. What you would do is
you rub your bellies thumbs.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Up, and then you go so good. Emma, that's what
you're told. Nobody tells you. She pulled aside, and she
told me. She pulled me and my wife aside said, hey, guys,
do us a favorite? Like what happened? That's what happened.
So it was, it was. It was a nice thing.
The pies were delicious.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
I did get a text from somebody telling me that
her aunt, who bakes my friend Sarah, came over later
for later than the evening.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
She took some pie home to her aunt. Emily is
the only person I know that it's a yelp.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
It is.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Crazy, tell you how great it is because her mom
pulls them all. I'm almost even there.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
My aunt said best pecan pie ever, and she was
a professional baker at one point.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Wow, wow, I wouldn't know anything. Why would just slice
that pie to see how good it is? I never
said it was the best ever. But I'm telling you
this is this isn't it's just my friend.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Ry.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I'm just telling this is ridiculous. It was as okay.
I was actually home this year. You know, we've been
traveling the last I don't know five thingsgivings and so
we're actually home this year where I cooked everything and
so I made the whole shebang, the turkey, the stuff,
and the greeny castle, the potatoes, the gravy, everything homemade

(03:48):
and it was phenomenal. It's actually a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Now.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
The last hour before you're supposed to serve is insanit
it's madness crazy. You have to try. First of all,
there's only so much oven space and everything kind of
goes in the oven, and you have to time everything
out so that it's all sort.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Of takeing on next level chef and naster chef perfectly.
I was sweating it out.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I felt like Gordon was yelling at I mean on
the side there he should be plating now.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
No.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
So then my dad he makes homemade raviolis and then
every year before everything gets served, we're supposed to eat raviolis. Really,
it's been a tradition of mine.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
For a starter course.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, it's his thing. Yeah, it's what he's always done
before dinner. Is we don't make giant plates of raviuolis.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
It's just like not at all.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
It's it's an Italian thing, but I don't know, and
so he's he got to make his raviolis. I'm in
the midst of chaos in the kitchen. I'm doing everything.
My dad literally comes in, pushes me aside, and just
starts taking over and making his his raviolis. And I'm like, dude,
I'm literally whisking the gravy and like trying to get

(05:04):
everything done, and he's like like it didn't matter. He
does not give a crap. It's my kitchen. He doesn't care.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
He's like, get out of the way, dude, what is
going on?

Speaker 1 (05:18):
I was coming out of my skin. No kind of
can't everything. It was crazy. So yeah, that wasn't fun.
But the rest of it was was good and it
all turned out great.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Whatever now, sky, Yes, my friend was going to cook.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I can't compress Thanksgiving dinner the sky know how. I
don't even think she knows how to make a turkey.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
No, she does not do anything, and so her head
in the turkey.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Yeah, I'm not putting my head like.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
We were so fascinated what could be on what could
be on the Thanksgiving? She hates everything.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
I don't mean this disrespectful, but it's probably the worst
than you I've ever seen in my life.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Right, is there a worst menu?

Speaker 1 (06:01):
There's no greeny castrole. Green beans are green and castle,
so not green castles.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
Stuff with bacon and then the friday onion.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Things on top that doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
Yeah, well you have to put the fried onion things.
I don't know, just because regular green beans, green beans
done and like bacon green with like pieces and from bacon.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Castro all right now.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
She she had it and wheel of food for the
first time the Friday before Thanksgiving and did not like.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
I do not like the creamy no, no, no, thank you? No.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yeah, why did you make it? I didn't I need it.
I made just green beans because you.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
Have to have green beans at Thanksgiving. But I'm not
doing the green bean castles.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
If you're not doing greeny castle, then you don't. You
don't have to. Don't.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
What am I gonna make broccoli? You gotta have some
sort of green there, what I mean? Yeah, come on Thanksgiving? Yeah,
it's not a healthy so because it was just the
three of us, uh, you know, me, the hobby and
the daughter.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
No, mom, all I've been out, I've been out.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Wait?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Wait was she with her family, her real family?

Speaker 5 (07:07):
She loves her her new husband's family, that this was
their year for Thanksgiving?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
So, but didn't they kind of do it together last year?

Speaker 3 (07:16):
I know, b the rotation last last year they did
like eleven am brush I.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Remember, and then went and they like, you heard the
tires rotating, Get the hell out of there to go
back to.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
The Yeah, yeah, it's pretty messed up, so you know whatever.
I'm not in charge of this rotation. But so just
the three of us. Yeah, my daughter doesn't like turkey,
so so we did you don't really not really chicken.
So we did a turkey breast and a chicken.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Turkey breast and chicken breast.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Her breast is big, so you can.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
It's for one person, right, my daughters. I mean, what
am I gonna make a whole turkey or a whole chicken?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
You guys horrific.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Yeah, And for some reason, my husband felt the need
for us to have appetizers, and I said, well, can't
we just have a snack And he said, no, it's Thanksgiving.
You don't have snacks. You have appetizers more than three people.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah, yeah, we didn't serve food until two, So we
had appetizers.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, and I'm like, but.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
It's just the three of us were in our pajamas
watching the dog Show. We need appetizers right now. So
he reminded me that like a year ago, we had
gotten this like catering gift certificate and had these old appetizers.
So he's like, we have appetizers, let's heat them up.
I thought it was gross, but I'm like, we're they
like keiche things and like mushroom stuffed things, like fancy

(08:38):
people appetizers. They had been in our freezer for a year, okay,
and so they're all frost ritten. But he wanted appetizers,
so we heat those up. Great, you got your appetizers.
For some reason, while I was cooking, I like just
kept putting them in my mouth even though they didn't
taste good. But I don't know, I felt like I
just kept eating them. Dinner turn out great, did potatoes,

(09:01):
stuffing the whole thing. I was surprised. The family enjoyed it.
It was great situation. Yeah, and then wrapping up doing dishes,
you know, because dishes, oh so many dishes, and all
of a sudden, stomach's not feeling so good. Guys not
feeling so great, and I'm like, ooh, this is this
is a weird one. So I decide I better, I

(09:22):
better get to the restroom. And that's when I sit
for a little bit and ooh this this isn't pretty.
And that's when I'm like, whoa, I may need to
grab this trash can and put it on my lap.
Well because I can't go, I can't get off the toilet.
But I know you gave yourself food poisoning. And as
I'm in there, I'm like, I just gave my entire

(09:43):
family food poisoning with my Thanksgiving meal, Like the turkey.
I didn't cook it long enough like I did something else. Okay, yeah,
nice to say. So I'm like panicking and then I
come out. The rest of my family is fine. I
think it was those stupid year old appetizers that I
can something in my mouth and I literally grozen.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Though I don't I can't explain that any other.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Would have had to have been something you cooked no offense,
but those other things.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
Like ten minutes, like literally it was like ten minutes
after we finished eating and it was coming out all size.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
So my favorite food poisoning that was my Thanksgiving guys,
so you're you're welcome.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
God, catch food poisoning right now, Okay,

Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
