we're going to use your help in defeating and three
ballot measures. Your help in making sure people have a

(00:23):
chance to vote on our go to on that Brittany Wesley,
of course, she is the head of the Colorado Catholic Conference,
very active at the legislature, knows every nook and Cranny Brettany.
Welcome back to the Dan Kapla Show.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Thanks for having me, Dan, Well.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Thanks for popping on to talk about the latest version
of truly probably one of the five worst bills in
Colorado history. What have they ironically called it this time around,
the Legal Protections for the Dignity.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Of a Minor Act. Can you take us through that irony?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Right? So, this is the latest of the five Colorado
Anti Discrimination Act bills that we've seen since twenty twenty
one that strengthens the language non discrimination language in the
Colorado bacute. But it also ironically discriminates against faith based

(01:18):
institutions and individuals that profess their faith in the public
square as it pertains to human sexuality and marriage. So
in the latest rendition of Arkada fights with the Legal
Protections for Dignity of minors. This bill does what thirteen
twelve eighth PECE twenty five thirteen twelve did last year,

(01:39):
which is to remove parental rights and custody over their
minor children if the parent disagrees with their child's professed
gender identity. So it's an expansion of what we saw
last year. That language was removed from Senate Juiciary Committee
last year, but now it's coming back as a standalone
bill to take kids away from parents if parents disagree

(02:01):
with a child's professed gender identity that is contrary to
their biological sex.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
So in other words, a parent will be punished legally
if they're not willing to lie to their child and
about their child right because the child's a boy. But
if they're not willing to say their boy is really
a girl, they can have their child taken away.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Correct. So last year's eight feet thirteen twelve, the Legal
Protections for transgender individuals. Added new definition to Colorado's anti
discrimination Acts, which as the Colorado Civil Rights Language of
non discrimination. That is the typical language you see on
the federal level, but in twenty twenty one they added

(02:43):
the color legislature added three more categories of non discrimination,
sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The bill last
year thirteen twelve added as a criminal and financial fine
to anybody who discriminate against those classes and also quote
unquote dead names or genders them not using their pronouns

(03:07):
that they chose, but instead uses their biological pronouns as
well as their first name. And in that bill it
also had that parential rights issue that brought seven hundred
people to the capital to testify against it. So Senate
Judiciary removed that language last year. Now this build the
lawmakers who champions thirteen twelve last year came back and said, no,

(03:30):
we really do want to take your kids away from
your parents. So this means that parents will lose custody
of their children if they do not affirm their miners'
trans identity.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Of what can people do to kill this bill?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
So the bill is in committee tomorrow February eighteenth, and
Senate Judiciary Committee. You can go online to the legislator's
website and sign up to testify either in person or
on zoom. It's at one point thirty in the old
Supreme Court chamber, and we really need to turn out
like we had last year. It was undeniable that Colorado,
and we're fighting back against thirteen twelve to the point

(04:04):
that we actually were able to strip that language.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
From the bill.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
This bill, that's all it's about. I suppressed the record
of legal name change for the minor, but specifically it
to take away through a court for parental rights over
their minor, over their child if they're under in the
age of eighteen, if that child chooses to adopt a
trans identity that the parent disagrees with in the parent

(04:30):
decides to affirm their biological identity, their birth name and
their birth pronouns.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, I mean, if you just read the bill summary,
which I know that you have one hundred times, it says,
quote in determining parenting time and the allocation of decision
making responsibility, the bill requires the court to consider whether
the parties recognize the child's identity as it relates to
a protected class. So they can't even bring themselves to

(04:54):
say it there that they have to say it that way.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
But then, and I've.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Never seen you see a lot more these than I do.
But I've never seen a build that had so many
of these provisions in there that this language subject to
constitutional limitations. And then it goes on from there. So
they've got to qualify almost every provision in the bill
subject to constitutional limitations. Aren't they just admitting, oh, by
the way, this is probably blatantly unconstitutional.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Well, we're saying that's left and right. So the other
Kada bill KATA being the Color of Anti Discrimination Act
of this year is HB twenty six eleven forty one,
and that's been committee on February twenty six, and that's
discriminate discriminatory practices in public schools that will specify grievance
procedures for students and employees who are accused of committing

(05:43):
acts of discrimination. So if they verbally profess their religious
or sustenance sincerely held beliefs about human sexual light or marriage,
then they will be either they have to follow these
grievance procedures or let go so under the guise of
non discrimination. The new KUD language that like I mentioned
goes back to HB eleven oh eight in twenty twenty one.

(06:05):
So we've seen each year this legislature come back strength
and language that actually discriminates against any person or public
or private institution that expresses the belief about human sexuality
or marias that's contrary to the state definition which includes
sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. And when it
comes to parental rights, this is where colorad and it

(06:27):
hits home. That's why we had seven hundred people come
and testify last year and about five hundred were turned
away the committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee limited testimony time
intentionally to turn parents away. There's parents showing up with
their children with large families to testify against that bill
that stayed into the wee hours of the morning or

(06:49):
turned away last year, and it's likely going to happen tomorrow.
I hope it happens tomorrow. We need more Coloraden to
say no and strip this bill of its language.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Britney Westley, our guest COLORADOCASSA conference. Think about how little
the people behind this bill care for children. I mean,
I mean, this is a situation where everybody recognizes that
children who have this in their head. You know, a
girl who's thinking I'm really a boy, or vice versa.
These are troubled kids who are going through some really

(07:20):
tough things emotionally and psychologically, whether it's being fed by
pop culture at school, or whether it's being you know,
politically pressured on them, or one parent using them against another.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Kids in real turmoil when this is happening. So what these.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Legislators want to do is deprive a parent of the
ability to step in and rescue their child from this turmoil.
But by saying, wait a second, Johnny, you really are
a boy, and I understand there's some other things going
on in your life. We'll get through this together. You know,
we'll do whatever we have to do to get through
this together. But the starting point is you really you

(07:57):
are a boy, and you know I'm with you all
the way, and let's work through this together. They are
threatening to punish a parent legally forgiving the child what
they need most in that moment.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
That's right, Dan, and it's the natural law. It's Catholic
socialization as a Catholic Commerce director that parents are the
primary educator of their children. But it's also a natural
law principle that's what it derives from we as parents.
I have four children, myself and my husband. I talk
all the time how sad it is that this is
happening to our children, especially in schools, that they're being
indoctrinated into this state ideology where they're very impressionable. Our kids,

(08:37):
they gravitate towards my three boys, and they all gravitate
to everything that he likes. And that's because they're children
that follow their parents. They are soaking in the wisdom
of their parents. And for the state to say we're
going to step in and strip your children away from
some fundamental teaching on the natural law, that is a
huge infringement on First Amendment liberties. Which is why those

(08:59):
as you mentioned earlier, those caveats who carved out in
the bill of a limited constitutional implications, because these are
First Amendment violations. So it's the bill that goes after
the freedom of expression speech on K through twelve public
school campuses and college campuses, that's following the Charlie Kirk model,
that's saying we're as the state of Colorado, these lawmakers

(09:22):
are going to restrict freedom must speech, freedum expression in
places the public accommodation in our school, and we're even
going to take away your children, Terrence, if you don't
affirm their professed gender identity, which these many of these
schools are pushing on them. That's the case of Aaron Lee.
That's her story, and that's why she is the champion

(09:43):
of Protected Colorado.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
And while I've gotcha, thanks for all the great work
you and the Cancer Conference and the bishops have done.
You know on the Protect Kids Colorado bell and initiatives.
We had Kelsey Ryan Hurt with us earlier on that
and I'm confident if they make it to the bell,
and it looks like hopefully they will, Colorado is going to.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Vote for that. Oh absolutely.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Today is the data celebrate for Protect Kids Colorado because
we're hitting the last I have heard, we're about one
hundred and seventy thousand signatures per initiative and the minimum
was one hundred and twenty five thousand. So that's giving
a lot of cushion to make sure that Jenna Griswold
and the Secretary of State can't throw out enough to
make sure that this doesn't go on the ballot. And
Colorado's is spoken, we want to protect our children. We

(10:28):
want to protect them in their sports. We want to
maintain our custody of our children as the primary educators
of our children, and that's why we need more Colorado
to come to the capital tomorrow, Sebruary eighteenth at one
point thirty in the Old Supreme Court Chamber and testify
again as the zero one to eight FB eighteen the
Legal Protections for dignity a minor skill, which is to

(10:51):
remove parental custody of children if they do not affirm
their miners minor child trans identity. It's imporant.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Well, we're lucky to have really smart, hard working, effective
people like you down there, and so please keep up
the great work and then let's touch bass as this
moves through the process.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Or hopefully doesn't.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Absolutely, thank you so much, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
You take care.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
That is Brittany Vesley from the Catholic Conference. I want
to talk about a few of these bills and the
passing of Reverend Jackson, who was a pro life champion
until he decided not to be unfortunately for everyone.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
You're on the Dan Kapla.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
Show and now back to the Dan Kaplas Show podcast.

Speaker 6 (11:41):

Speaker 6 (11:59):
I'll dream of it as they ought to be. Dream

your rise above the pain. Use hopeland imagination as weapons
of survival and progress. But you keep on dreaming, Young America.
Dream of peace. Peace is rational and reasonable. Goe is

(12:22):
irrationable in this age and unwinnable. Dream of teachers who
teach for life and not for a living. Dream of
doctors will concern more about perfect health than trific wealth.
Dream of lawyers more concern about justice and the judgeship.
Dream of preachers will concern more about complice it and profiteering.

(12:45):
Dream on the high road, sound faucures. You must never
surrender to any quality. Women cannot compromise e r or come.

Speaker 3 (12:56):

Speaker 6 (12:57):
Women are making sixty session the dollar. Know what a

That s is right in.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
A stamp.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Boy Reverend Jackson really talented guy and very very likable guy. Again,
never met him in person but just everything I saw
because he was in Chicago when I was in Chicago
growing up, and just seemed like a very likable guy.
I remember my dad, who uh you know, he capped
for thirty years, all of it on the South Side,
and he really liked Jesse Jackson and never heard a

(13:37):
bad word to say about him. And then, you know,
because I was a kid growing up and Jesse Jackson
a really, really big deal. And then it was so
weird when I was out covering the Rodney kincase for
the network and I was how did this all come down? Yeah,
Jesse Jackson was on set with the biggest local TV station,

(13:59):
Real Powerhouse. They were doing an on set interview and
the legendary anchor broke into the interview. Somebody sent me
the tape, he said, Reverend Jackson, so sorry to interrupt,
but we have a special report from Dan Kaplis.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
And I just thought.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
I just thought, as a kid growing up in Chicago,
I thought, wow, that's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
You bumped Jessin Jacks.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yeah, yeah, but yeah, I'm sorry I didn't get a
chance to meet him, because he just very likable guy.
Obviously didn't agree with everything politically, but the other moral
of that story is to me, I was a young
young kid when Roe was decided. But to see those
Democrats who had to make a decision, you know, which

(14:41):
road do they go down? They know that abortion's wrong
on every level. It's not a religious thing. I mean,
it's also wrong religiously, but so is running a stoplight,
you know, at full speed. And we don't say, oh no,
you can run stoplights now, because that would be imposing
your faith on everybody else to say, have to stop.
But anyway, it was that moment of choosing for Reverend

(15:03):
Jackson also, and so you saw those Democrats who then decided, yeah,
they know abortions wrong in every imaginable way. And Reverend
Jackson had been a tremendous champion of the unborn until
he decided to run for president in the Democrat Party
in eighty four, and then he sold out.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
And that was so sad.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
And he still did an awful lot of goodness life,
but it was so sad he sold out on that
because if he'd stayed true to it, let's say he'd
stayed true to it, stayed in the Democratic Party, it's
not like he was ever going to advance very far
in the Democratic Party. But at least he would have
stayed true to what was right, and he would have
had that comfort and peace knowing that. But let's say

(15:43):
he'd become a Republican, because you had a lot of
Democrats of conscience who were then forced to become Republicans
over the life issue. And I really think he would
have been a huge national player in the GOP, very
very good chance would have been a presidential nominee for
the GOP had he switch. But just a couple of

(16:04):
his quotes. Reverend Jackson quotes on abortion nineteen seventy three
interview with Jet magazine. Quote abortion is genocide. Anything growing
is living. If you got the thrilled to set the
baby in motion and you don't have the will to
protect it, you're dishonest. For who knows the cure for
cancer won't come out of some mind of some black child.
And then Reverend Jackson goes on to reject the privacy

(16:28):
argument behind Roe, and he said, quote, there are those
who argue that the right to privacy is of higher
order than the right to life. I do not share
that view. That was the premise of slavery. Let me
repeat that, Reverend Jackson saying that was the premise of slavery.
You could not protest the existence or treatment of slaves
on the plantation because.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
That was private. What a champion?

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Yeah, imagine what do you think would have happened? We
got a million things to talk about. But if you
have a take on this, you think Jesse Jackson would
have been GOP presidential nominee if he had just said,
wait a second, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna abandon
all of these lives, just proportionately black, four black kids
being killed for every one white kid who gets killed

(17:15):
before Berth and Nune of them should get killed.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Let's say he had stayed true to that and become
a Republican. Think he would have been president.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
I think there's a very very good chance he would
have at least been the GOP nominee.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
So we have that and much more to talk about.
If you haven't heard the news, this is hilarious.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
If it wasn't so sad, Colorado's biggest company by far,
not an inch a mile. You got the left out
there outside their headquarters saying move out of Colorado, we
don't like you, supporting Ice.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Guess what they did today? They moved and took all
their jobs.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
You're listening to the Dan Kaplis Show podcast.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
On Ukraine. What does victory look like?

Speaker 6 (18:00):
Ambassador No, please, I'd love to hear your answer.

Speaker 8 (18:07):
It is I the two that I am on the
panel with are much more steeped in foreign policy than
a governor is.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
But you know, I do think that.

Speaker 8 (18:18):
Ukraine's independence, keeping their land mass and having the support
of all the allies, I think is the goal.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
And this brings me back to isn't it a fair question?
These days?

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Ryan?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Is dope legal in Michigan?

Speaker 5 (18:36):
It is now right before I left in that election, Dan,
that I voted in the twenty eighteen so I moved
here it was legalized them.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Yeah. And I don't mean this as an insult.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I just think, and you know, we're going to play
and we watched all the AOC stuff over the weekend
and everything. These are otherwise smart people, you know, who
not only say dumb things, but but like can't form
a thought. And we've seen that at times from some
really prominent Democrats in Colorado who we also know to
be very smart people who just have a bad leftist ideology.

(19:07):
But we see these times when they can't really form
a thought and you know, we all have a moment
here and there, but stuff like that. And I think
it's fair to ask, especially if they come from a
state where marijuana is legal. I think it's a fair
and important part of political discourse.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
Now, you know, do you do drugs?

Speaker 5 (19:26):
Do you do dope?

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Have you done it? Today? Three out? Three seven three
eight two five five?

Speaker 1 (19:31):
The number text d A N five seven seven three
nine hey ash Wednesday tomorrow. And so every year, you know,
those who observe this, they, you know, have to ask themselves,
what are you giving up for Lent? And this year
Pope Leo has called on Catholics to give up something
in particular.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
And I have committed myself to this. I'm not joking
about it. I've committed myself to it.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Pope Leo calling on the faithful to fast from harsh
words and judgmental language, focusing instead on words of peace
and kindness. So it's been built as fasting from words. Now,
it doesn't mean you don't speak the truth, that that

(20:17):
would be the opposite of what Christians are called to do.
But the challenge now is to fast from unnecessarily harsh words.
And unnecessarily judgmental language. So I'm committed to that for
the forty days of lent. And I think it's hard
for any of us in life to do that, but

(20:38):
in this kind of job, and I don't want to
use the job as an excuse, but in this kind
of job, my job is to speak the truth and
to back that up, to search and find the truth,
and then bring it to you and you decide what
to do with it. You decide if it's the truth.
But I think when I bring it to you it is,

(21:01):
so hopefully you conclude that.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
I mean it's I.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Don't just say, oh, here's the truth, that's my opinion.
I back it up and hopefully everybody sees that's the truth.
But bottom line is my challenge now for these forty
days is to do my job, do my job without
unnecessarily harsh words or unnecessarily judgmental language. So we'll find

(21:26):
out together. We'll find out together a can I do it?
Because I am committed to doing it, no matter what
the consequences be. If I am able to do it,
is it good radio or lousy radio, And whichever direction
it goes, it goes because my commitment is to the
bigger calling here to be able to fast from unnecessarily

(21:49):
harsh words and unnecessarily judgmental language. So yeah, it's going
to be fascinating, fascinating for me. I hope it is
for you, because I know you won't be here if
it isn't, and.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
I really need you.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Year three oh three seven one three eight two five
y five text d A N five seven seven three nine. Hey,
we're going to play the bishop baron sound in the
next segment, so it does a good run because it's
brilliant stuff from a very prominent Catholic bishop. We're not
playing it because he's a Catholic bishop, except to this extent.
It is very significant that such a prominent Catholic bishop

(22:21):
is coming right out and talking about AOC and the
left's Marxist ideology. Very significant because that's what Catholics are
called to do, including priests and bishops, not a left
or right, not Republicans, good, Democrats bad or vice versa.
That would be directly against Catholic teaching. But it would
be directly against Catholic teaching not to step up and

(22:43):
speak to the big issues of the day.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
You know, that's that's our calling. Take it to the streets.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Stop bad things, do good things, you know, all according
to the word. So anyway, I want to get you
that a clean run in a couple of minutes here.
But in the meantime, this to me was such interesting
sound to listen to, and I wanted you to hear
it if you haven't already, But you got to picture this.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
They're over in Munich.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
This is a big worldwide meeting, and you've got this
circle of people including Hillary Clinton and lover hater politics,
this and that. She's been a very prominent actor in
the world stage. And you've got some other really prominent folks,
and they're all sitting around acting like they're mesmerized listening
to this man who identifies as a woman hold himself

(23:32):
out to be this champion of women's rights. And it
was all just so preposterous. And none of this has
said with any kind of animosity. I've told you before,
one of the people I admire most in the world
happens to be a trans person. And I admire that
person not because they're trans, but because of other things
they've done in their life. So no, it just comes

(23:54):
from a place of truth and reality. This person you're
going to hear speaking is a man who decided wanted
to be women, so it was going to wear dresses,
dressed like a woman, everything else. Got elected to Congress
as a woman after being in politics originally as a man,
and then holds himself out and is being held out

(24:14):
by this group as some champion of women's rights, when
in fact it's undermining women's rights to say, no, men
are really women and they can be in women's bathrooms
and locker rooms and sports and everything that goes along
with that. And the reason this sound is so interesting
instead of infuriating is that America spoke loudly and clearly

(24:36):
on this on election day, and yet Democrats have decided
to ride this cause right down to the bottom of
the ocean. So this is more just kind of an
intellectual exercise. But picture this circle, huge crowd gathered and
they're all listening to Sarah McBride, who is in fact
a man.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
At the end of the day.

Speaker 9 (24:57):
Transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, and sexism are all rooted in the
same prejudice, the belief that one perception at birth should
dictate who you are, how you act, what you do,
who you love and how you dress, and it's why
threats toward trans people are threats toward all women.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
So this is fascinating.

Speaker 6 (25:19):
You know.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
McBride had to try to explain why he should matter
and why a male should be on the stage with
these women, and then his explanation was preposterous on its face,
that the linkage is a quote perception at birth. No,

(25:41):
it's not a perception at birth. It's an undeniable biological
fact that he was a man at birth. And I'm
not mocking whatever turmoil he's going through in his mind,
not mocking that at all. That's serious stuff, and people
who are in fact men and then really want to
be women, they go through some real internal turmoil.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
I'm not making fun of that.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
But he has to tell this big lie to even
try to begin to justify being on that stage, that
it's a perception at birth.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
No, it is an absolute fact.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
And then the second part of it is provably false
also that somehow then this perception at birth then automatically
determines everything else that happens. No, it doesn't, So it
all just comes back to it is surreal, bizarre, ludicrous,
and really difficult to understand how the democratic Party ever

(26:39):
got itself into this box where all of a sudden,
they're Holy Grail now is pretending that men are women
and women are men, and that that is equal to
the issue of civil rights for blacks and the issue
of true racial prejudice and discrimination, and equal to the

(27:01):
real issue of oppression that women still face.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
How do you think they ever got.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Themselves in this ridiculous, illogical box that voters have overwhelmingly rejected,
and do you think they'll ever get out?

Speaker 3 (27:16):
You're on the Dan Capla Show.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
And now back to the Dan Kaplas Show podcast.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Glad you're here. Sure appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Getting a bunch of text from people who heard Britney
Vesley on the show earlier from Colorado Catholic conference talking
about this beyond hideous bill that will legally punish parents,
cause some parents to lose their children if they're not
willing to lie and say they're boys really a girl.
The bill is Senate Bill twenty six oh one eighth

(27:45):
so Senate bill called it Senate Bill eighteen and it
is being heard tomorrow. And Brittany was asking people to
go on the legislative website and sign up so they
could testify against this bill tomorrow. So it is Senate
Bill eighteen. The name of the bill is concerning legal
protections for the dignity of a minor.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Think about that.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
But they always name these bills the opposite of what
they really are, right, I mean, when a minor needs
their parent most in the middle of this kind of confusion, Yeah,
the parent is going to lose the child if they
speak the truth to the miner. But that's just the
Democrats admitting they've lost the argument, right, Because they've lost
the argument with the public across party lines so badly,

(28:29):
they have to rely on threatening to legally punish people
unless they do the will of the left with their
own children. In other words, if you don't tell your
children what the far left wants you to tell your children,
you'll lose your child.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
You know.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
That's the gist of this bill, at least for people
involved in any kind of custody proceeding. I'd give you
all the numbers, but it would be wasting your time.
Because we're coming up on the end of the show.
I do want to give you some of this sound
from Bishop Baron will do more of it as we
get in to a full plane. Of Marco Rubio's epic speech,

(29:04):
AOC's bizarre response, But here's Bishop Baron courageously calling AOC
out as well as the Left for their Marxism.

Speaker 10 (29:13):
Marco Rubio's speech was a pure appeal to Western culture.
My favorite part was when he said that American cowboys
came from Spain.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
It's also.

Speaker 10 (29:29):
Important to note how thin that foundation is culture Baron.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
You know, just last week Marco Rubio gave a talk
that I thought was really good in Munich. He was
talking about the shared culture of Europe and America. He
referenced Gothic cathedrals and Dante and Shakespeare and even the Beatles.
His point was, we got to get beyond just our
political differences and find our sources in the great culture

(29:56):
that unites us. And then he took a further step
that was very much in line with Pope Benedict the
sixteenth and Christopher Dawson, namely that culture is grounded in cult.
At the root of all culture is something like religion,
and so he wasn't afraid to reference the Christian phaith
as a key element in giving rise to the shared
culture of Europe and America.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
So a really good speech. I thought, well, they just
I think was yesterday I saw.

Speaker 7 (30:20):
A representative Alexandra Akasio Cortez answering him, and I was
very struck by her answer.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
I thought it was very illuminating.

Speaker 7 (30:28):
She said, oh, you know, this appeal to culture, it's
so thin because culture is ephemeral, it's always changing, and
so we shouldn't pay attention to culture. We just pay
attention to the material foundations in the class struggle. Well,
all of that, everybody is right out of the Marxist playbook.
First of all, that Western culture, as Rubio invoked, it

(30:53):
is thin.

Speaker 4 (30:54):
The culture that gave us all those great figures, that
gave us.

Speaker 7 (30:58):
The rule of law, that gave respect for the rights
of the individual, that gave us our democratic political system,
that gave us the university system.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
That's thin.

Speaker 7 (31:07):
And your argument is, well, because culture has always changed,
Well that's a baality. I mean, of course, cultures are alive,
they change and evolve. Doesn't mean for a second we
can't identify the key elements within a culture that gives
it its character. But also this to characterize cultureist thin
is a Marxist move. Marx said that culture is simply

(31:28):
an epi phenomenal superstructure on top of the economic substructure.
And don't be distracted therefore by the culture that's just
protecting the economics at bottom.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
Well, again, listen to her.

Speaker 7 (31:40):
Let's pay attention to the material conditions and to class struggle. Again,
that's the Marxist playbook. What's worrying me, everybody, is the
extent to which political leadership on the left in America
is becoming unapologetically Marxist.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
The mayor of New York City, you know, the warmth
of collectivism.

Speaker 7 (31:58):
He's calling for the confiscation of private property, of seizing
the means of production, all language right out of the
Communist manifesto.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
You know.

Speaker 7 (32:06):
Might I encourage followers of you know, Mehr, Mom, Donni
and AOC talk to some of them. They're still alive,
some of them, the people that fled Marxist tyranny in Europe,
people laboring under it to this day in Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela,
et cetera. And then this too, It concerns me not
just as someone who follows politics, but as a bishop

(32:29):
of the Catholic Church.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
Marx himself said the first critique is.

Speaker 7 (32:34):
A critique of religion, and his political adepts followed him.
The first thing that the Marxist tyrannies went after in
most cases was religion. I'm getting a little concern that
in some of these leading figures in our own politics,
a Marxist philosophy is taking hold as a religious leader.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
This is concerning me quite a bit. Take a look.
Everybody tend to the language in a way. They're telling
us who they are and what they're for exactly. I
think that should be very concerning to everybody.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Exactly.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
You can follow Bishop Baron at Bishop Baron an X.
Look at Colorado the day after Polish won the governor's
race the first time he came out and said, hey,
got to keep your faith outside the public square, right,
because that whole Marxist ideology, it goes right after religion,
because if people actually vote their faith, if they vote
their core beliefs, the left loses, and the left loses

(33:29):
every single time. And then you look at the open
hostility of Colorado government under the Left toward faith, and
in particular Christian faith, to the point the US Supreme
Court has to call Colorado out on it and slap
Colorado down over and over against So credit to the
Bishop for stepping up and speaking out on this. That's
what Catholics, that's what Christians are required to do. Never

(33:51):
let the left intimidate you into silence claiming separation of
church and state. No, that's so they can impose their
own religion, which is their left, this ideology. As Christians,
we are called into the public square to fight bad
things and do good things. It doesn't mean Democrat versus Republican.
It's right versus wrong.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
