Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining me right now on the Legacy Retirement Group dot
com phone lines is Evan Brown from Fox News, a
Fox on Tech segment. He wants to talk about something
that scares the kraboogies out of me because I just
look Evan. Okay, let me let me total recall. Welcome
to Johnny cab that goes through my hand up this morning. Yeah, exactly,

(00:20):
that's what goes to. And you remember what happened to
that the cab driver's head blew off and spinning around.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
And because that's because the driver you know, is a
passenger rather meaning Arnold Schwarzeninger was you know, got a
little desperate and tried to take over the car and escape,
you know, obviously was trying to escape being killed or.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Something like that. And I remember that line from the
movie Arnold said, get elon Musk to Mars. I remember
that something like that. But this, this is real, It
is becoming a reality. We've got two or three different
uh of the automated cab things running around the nation now,
and ninety nine percent they've they've been Okay, there have

(00:59):
been some miss but overall they didn't do it.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Okay, Yeah, they have been. I mean Obviously we hear
about the mishaps because that's what makes news, but for
the most part, they are performing very well. This is
a new venture coming to Fruition now between Uber and
another company called Neuro which makes the self driving technology,
and a third company called Lucid Motors, which makes electric vehicles,

(01:25):
and they're working together in a deal lening's worth like
three hundred million dollars to develop a twenty thousand self
driving electric vehicles that will be haileable via Uber's app,
and they will deploy these in different cities around the world,
including at least one major US market, And it really
is looking to be a shot in the arm to

(01:51):
move this technology forward. You know, the idea that especially
in urban areas, there would be these halable self driving
rides for short high rides, would you know, it's really
you know, the way of the future. It would perhaps
lower the cost of transportation for you know, especially in
urban travel, and do so in a in a way

(02:11):
that promotes newer technology and whatnot. So it might be
a year or two before this comes to Fruition, but
but it's moving forward.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
I have not heard of Lucid are they producing specifically
for this project or do they make a brand of
consumer vehicle as well.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
They do make they have their own brand. It is
a smaller company than something like Tesla, for instance, but
you know, they they have a couple of showrooms in
bigger cities. They're obviously not inexpensive, so they're going after
a certain clientele for their their cars. But they also
develop powertrain tech for other automakers, including Aston Martin. So

(02:53):
you know, you may not see too many Aston Martins
in most American cities. You mostly see them in James
Bond films, I'm sure, but in certain cities like here
in Miami, Aston Martin is well well represented on the
streets of Miami Beach, for instance. But there's some Lucid
group technology that gets into those cars. But this would

(03:16):
perhaps make Lucid a bit more recognizable or you know,
common on the streets and in certain cities, if they
are going to be available for ride heil.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
The idea that this is going to have in a
major city, I'm assuming as yet unnamed. I just I'm
wondering if the Uber tie in is the big game changer,
because you know, this is something that people are already
familiar with. Oh I can go to my Uber app
and so forth. I'm thinking that may actually give them

(03:47):
kind of a boost in people wanting to use it.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Would be the idea. Uber remains the most used, I
believe ride hailing service that we've seen around the world,
so a lot of people are very familiar with it,
and to access one of these types of cars would
not be anything different than hailing a ride currently the
way you would do in Uber. So you know, it's

(04:10):
just that this is the type of car that might
be available and it would show up, or you may
have the ability to, you know, in your settings say
I don't want one of these, or I do want
one of these. I'm not sure how to work, but
you know, in terms of hailing the ride and paying
for it, you're going to be familiar with that process already.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, the calumnists in your voice makes me perhaps not
quite as terrified. I appreciate it. Keep us in for
man when they decide what city we want to know.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, well, when they announce it, we'll probably have that
for you. I would I Mentionine it's going to be
a big city, something like New York or La or
San Francisco. But we've already seen a lot of these
types of technologies deployed to some smaller cities. Austin Phoenix
for instance, have been using these as well, so not
sure where
