Speaker 1 (00:00):
NFL Draft tomorrow, yep, eight o'clock.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I always enjoy the draft, at least the first maybe
ten or fifteen picks, because it's all what could be?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
And then and then I turn it off.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I mean, there are some people and you're probably one
of them, Campia, that will watch all weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
It's the sixth round of the draft. Who's a guy
you'll never see ever play?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Or the next superstar or the next super check in
on it. I check in on it to see number one.
Who the Browns are going to get number two? How
many buck Eyes and where they're going?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah, and he's going to be a lot of Buckeyes
going this year.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
And my ultimated be if a buck Eye went to
the Browns, and I'm happy. I'm a fat cat.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
So, I mean, let's talk about the Browns for a minute.
They have the second pick. We you know, Matt McCoy
has been reporting this morning they have been receiving and
entertaining phone calls for people that want that number two pick.
It's not likely they're going to take that. I think
they'd be stupid unless they said, you know, we'll give you.
It would have to be an enormous haul for the
Browns to give up that number two pick.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
But if they're like, hey.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Well we'll give you know we're we're the Chicago Bears
at ten. We'll give you ten and that this year,
and we'll give you a top ten pick next year.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
It's just I don't see it happening.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
But no, not right now. They got ten full picks
for the draft itself of me a lot, Yeah, and
I think that you can you can make some maneuvers
maybe down the pipe a little bit and see what
happens there. But look, the roster's not very good, Mike,
so they they it just isn't.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
That could be the understatement of the morning.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Well, I tried to do it without crying, So I
just I tried to be as business minded as I
could about it.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
So you've got Tennessee at one.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
It's largely believed they're going to take cam Ward from Miami, right.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
And he's the best quarterback by far.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
He's my best quarterback in the draft. Yeah, So you
also have the Sanders kid. You've also got Jackson Dart,
maybe Jalen Milroe from Bama. But number one Tennessee Titans. Yep,
it would be. It would be. I'm not going to
say shocking, it would be unusual if they took somebody
other than cam Ward. So that leaves I guess they
could take Travis Hunter. I suppose it would be it

(02:01):
would be remarkable if they did. But Travis Hunter largely
believed to be the best overall athlete in the draft.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Well, there's no question he can play both sides of
the ball. Now that's not going to happen in the NFL.
So I think the Browns are going to lead to
have him more on offense. And the reason I say
that is that Browns have a lot of depth in
the defensive backfield. You got Denzel Ward, you got cam Mitchell,
you got let's see who am I also, you got
Greg Newsom, the second you have Miles Harden. Look, these

(02:28):
are all guys. There is a lot of depth and
talent and the Browns have shown that on defense the
last couple of years. Now, Travis Hunter could play a
little bit maybe in the nickel to get some help
with we were talking about Harden, but that's about it.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, couldn't you come in some sort of like specialty
situations for the Browns, like you said, like in the
nickel on a third down a must stop situation and
you put him back there, and yeah, you've got a
heck of an athlete.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, yeah, that's absolutely the way. That's the only way
to see it, because in the NFL you simply can't
do it. You cannot have you can't play that many
plays on the field as big and as physical and
as talented as the NFL. As you're talking about an
entirely different level. You think college is impressive, get to
the pros. It's all in fast forward. And I really

(03:15):
do like Travis Hunter, but he's going to have to
make a grown up decision here and not say I'll
never play football again if I can't play both ways.
But I think I could find a package for him.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I don't think he will.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I think you know he's being coached and talked to
right now by his agent and his other folks in
his inner circle, saying, look, you are going to be
a millionaire like.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
This, yep, we want you to be a healthy millionaire.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, so you know you can talk to your team,
you know, in the fall when you guys go to
camp about what you want to do. But let's just
just sign the offer sheet today and let's get this
thing done.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Well, and I do want to bring up that if
they don't go with Travis Hunter, I'm just throwing this
out there. Miles Garrett is one of is maybe the
best edge rusher in the NFL. You could book by
getting Abdul Carter out of Penn State. There's gonna be
like seven guys that are edge rushers are going to
be taken this year in the NFL Draft. Two of
them are from Georgia, Jalen Walker, and you also have

(04:12):
what's his name, Michael Michael Williams is another one.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Well, so that begs the question if they if the
strength of the Cleveland Browns is the defense, do you
use the draft to make a good defense better or
do you use the draft to make a lousy offense.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Well, the argument still stands. The Philadelphia Eagles had one
of the best defenses in the NFL last year and
won the won the Super Bowl, So I still go
with that. In the NFL, I still think the defense
wins championships and you can work around with skilled players.
I think what's highly undervalued is the offensive line. If
you're gonna get somebody maybe in the second round with

(04:47):
pick thirty three, go with Donovan Jackson from Ohio State.
I think that'd be awesome.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
What I mean, I guess then you're asking the question,
what about a quarterback for Cleveland? Yeah, you know, because
you've got Joe Flacco as your starting quarterback as it
stands today, and they they should have never gotten rid
of him after he got them single handedly into the playoffs?
What was that two years ago? So I mean, you
get the Sanders kid from Colorado. Cam Ward is probably

(05:15):
going to be off the table, you know, and that
would that would open up a lot of decision making
opportunities for Cleveland. If if Tennessee took Travis Hunter and
that now you've got cam Ward available, could could Cleveland go?
You know what that changes our draft board. We're gonna
you know, if Travis is off the board because Tennessee

(05:35):
took him, We'll take cam Ward as a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Absolutely, and absolutely you'll have to make that play, right.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
I mean, you go in there, learn from Flacco, hold
the clipboard for a season, put on some weight, get
you know, get developed a little bit, and then you're
the starter next year.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
No question.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yes, Joe Flacco was there for one purpose alone, to
do a one year deal, get somebody warmed up to
be the next starting quarterback for Cleveland, and if it's
not going to be cam Ward, if that, you know,
if that scenario were not to take place, yea, I
honestly believe that Jackson Dark could be available somewhere.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah. Yeah, you've got Jalen Milroe from Bama. I do
not like him. He's farther on down the list. I
would believe.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Shador Sanders is a possibility, but I could see him
going to Pittsburgh. Shoudor Sanders could end.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Up being a Steeler. Interesting, Yeah, interesting, that'd be wild.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
So Brown's picked two tomorrow Bengals at seventeen. Let's get
a Bengals perspective from Paul Danner from the Athletic Paul
on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Thanks for the time this morning. How are you man,
I'm doing well.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
So it's widely believed that the Bengals will address the
defensive side of the ball tomorrow and they're seventeenth.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Bak, Is that how you see it?

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Yeah, I mean it's certainly where they need the most
help and makes the most sense. Outside of offensive line,
I mean they need They're always looking to protect Joe Burrow.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
They have two.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Gaping holes at guard, but they're not traditionally, you know,
the type of team to take a guard that early.
And I think they've they've done a lot of work
on some of the second and third round options there
that that suggests that they're they're looking at they're looking
at defense and probably specifically anybody that can rush the

(07:16):
pass or they just don't have enough of it.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
You know, Trey Henderson was really all they had last
year in terms of consistent pass rush. They need more
and they're they're hoping to find that in this draft,
and that could could be an edge rusher. I mean,
that's it's certainly a certainly a very viable option when
you look at how this first round could.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Break down, is that somebody like a Walter Nolan from
Ole miss or. I don't know if Mason Graham from
Michigan will be and he's not an edge guy, I
don't believe, but I mean I don't and I don't
know if he's going to be a round in seventeen.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
But that type of player.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
Anybody that can get out probably where it starts. If
you have a pulse and you're big enough fair enough,
if you have proven production, they're interested and I think,
you know, yeah, Walter certainly would be one.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
From Old miss I mean, if Mason Graham ended up
in their laps, they would be jumping for joy. I
think any of the edge rushers Mike Green is somebody
from from Marshall has a ton of production. Maybe, you know,
they haven't traditionally taken small school guys, but if they
believe that that he can really be a pass rusher
off the edge, you know, it's interesting. In the past,

(08:22):
we've really been able to kind of pinpoint exactly the
type of player that they were looking for on defense.
Former defense coordinat Luanna Rumo had had a style like
these guys like big, strong, power rushing edges, and so
you could kind of pinpoint in the draft who they
were going to be well with Louanna Roumo now in
Indianapolis and new defense coordinator Al Golden, it's kind of
a new variable here, where is he going to be

(08:44):
open to some new body types that they haven't taken
in the past. Some of the smaller guys like Green,
who's only a two point fifty instead of up in
that two sixty five, two seventy range or more of
a hybrid linebacker type like John Campbell from Alabama are
or is that going to be somebody that he feels
like he could deploy into a new role that maybe
Lui an Arumo wasn't as interested in the past, so

(09:06):
he's that new The new coordinator situation casts an interesting
variable over how they're going to attack the defense in
this draft.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Paul Danner from The Athletic talking about the Bengals and
their seventeenth pick. So if it's it's largely it's not
going to be a sexy pick, Paul that that's it's
not going to be a skill player, which I think
is a funny term because all these guys, even on
the offensive defensive line, have incredible skill. But it's not
going to be a sexy player that touches the ball
every you know, other down or something like that. But

(09:36):
and it's never and you mentioned it's never a bad
idea to invest in someone who's going to protect Joe
Burrow on the O line.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
No, they will, I mean they they need to come
out of this draft with somebody who will be competing
immediately and and be the leader in the clubhouse to
be starting a guard on opening day. They need that
that those positions kind of went on filled in free agency.
It just didn't fall their way and they need to
find somebody. And there's lots of options out there, you know,

(10:04):
somebody really intriguing. One that would be an option on
day two would be Tate Ratleige from Georgia. Not just
because he's he's a solid player and checks out as
a nice fitted guard. He played next to a Marius
Mems for the year that Amarus Mims was playing at Georgia.
The instant chemistry that they could have as a right

(10:24):
guard right tackle combination immediately helps him fast track to
day one and and and take some of the unknown
out of the equation in terms of how you'll mesh
on the offensive line. And there's some other guys in
that that that area, that round two guard or a
guard tackle hybrid type of player feels like a pretty

(10:45):
snug spot to see the Bengals attack when they get
