Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey everybody, welcome. It's me and Eddie. We're going to
talk about our greatest country music memories about certain artists,
except we don't know who the artists are yet. Okay.
So these are my favorite because I don't really know
what we're going to do. Mike Diaz put this together.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Mike, what's the deal?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I have a bunch of random artists. I'll put them
on the screen. You don't know who's coming next. Just
give me your best story that you have with them. Okay,
so what comes to mind? Oh, I like this. Can
it build if it's bad?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Even if it's bad. Oh, just say it?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
He hooked up my girlfriend.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Here's the deal I'll make you. If it's bad, we'll
blur you out and do that voice.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Oh, with a voice changer? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
And a silhouette. Like you're hiding from the mob. So
just let me know if it's going to be bad.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
We'll blur you. Perfect.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Nobody will know, you know? Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
All right.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
So again, we don't know who it's going to be.
And here we go. All right. Up first.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Oh. Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
We're going to be, it looks like it's going to
be Luke Bryan.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Luke Bryan.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
You want to go first with your favorite Luke story? Sure.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
I have a... I mean, first off, the first thing
that comes to my mind with Luke Bryan is that
he just fills the room up with energy. I mean,
if Luke Bryan's in the room, you know Luke Bryan's.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
In the room.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
One of my favorite memories... Of Luke Bryan is we
were at the, I think it was a CMA awards
and we do these media like tours or, you know,
these are the remotes that they call them where we
just sit, set cameras up and we do interviews, all
these artists. Well, at the very entrance of the building,
they had all of these guitars up and they were
(01:38):
stood them up like kind of on their. Like on
the bottom of the guitar, right? I'm talking like 50 guitars.
And every artist that would come in would sign it
and go on to the next one, sign every single guitar. Well,
here comes Luke. Hey, y'all. And you can hear him
like bust through the door. And Luke Bryan's here. Cool. Oh,
you want me to sign these guitars? And he signs
the first guitar and it falls domino style, dude.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Boom, boom, boom, boom.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh, no. All 50 guitars fell.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
And Luke's like, oh, no.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
What did I do? But like... To me, that's just
like Luke. He's so fun and it's never boring around him.
And for so long too, I remember thinking like, that's
who I want to be. I want to be like that.
When I walk into a room, I want people to
be like, gosh, Eddie's so much fun because that's the
way he is.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
He does have a presence about him. And I was
lucky enough to spend roughly four years with him outside
of Nashville because we did American Idol together. He was
a judge. I was the head mentor. But We were
the only two people on time to anything.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Really?
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Ryan was, but a lot of times Ryan Seacrest wasn't
there shooting.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Like I was there because Ryan had moved to New
York to start Ryan and Kelly. So they brought me
in to do not only mentoring, but if Ryan wasn't
able to get back to shoot a lot of that stuff.
So of the me, then three judges, Luke, Lionel, and Katie.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Uh-huh.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Luke was the only one that.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Showed up on time. I was for sure. I was a.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Small man on Totem Pole, so I was always on time.
I was early, and Luke was always on time.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And I wonder if that's Luke or if it's his
manager or his people getting on time.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
It's how we do things in Nashville.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
But also, Lionel is so famous and been famous for
30 years that he'd come in.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
He's on Lionel time.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
He is on Lionel time, but the worst was Katie.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Really?
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Yeah, awful. But Luke was on time with me a lot,
and I liked that. And Luke was... kind enough, we'd
fly out there or we flew to Hawaii and he
was like, just get on my plane. And so I'll
just fly with Luke on his plane out there. That's amazing.
He's such a good guy. My favorite Luke Bryan story though,
(03:45):
is we were playing Faster Horses Music Festival. And so
this is a big music festival in Michigan. And for
those that don't know, Eddie and I, we're not retired.
We just haven't played in a long time, but We
have a band, a comedy music duo called the Raging Idiots.
And we were having an odd amount of success at
(04:07):
the time, meaning we were selling so many tickets that
promoters that didn't know any better thought we were bigger
than we were. And they would put us in these
spots at a music festival that we shouldn't be in.
It was way late. We were playing after major acts,
but we did comedy. And so when we would go out,
people would be stunned at what we were doing. Because
(04:27):
they had just watched like five great country acts in
a row. Then it was us. And then like two headliners.
And I knew that. And it was awkward for me.
So it's why I dressed us all in jumpsuits. So
people knew when we came out, we look like the
adult Wiggles, but people knew there was something up with
this band. So we're out, we're playing this festival and
festivals were always hard for us because it was not
our people out there. We knew at our shows when
(04:49):
it was our people, they got it. We did funny songs.
We did crowd stuff. It was hilarious. So much fun.
When we did a festival, everybody was confused. And then
some of them hated it. And I remember we're at
Faster Horses and we're playing the spot right before it
gets dark, like late afternoon. And Luke was going to
(05:11):
headline that night of that festival. And I'd seen him
out in his bus because everybody hangs out on their
buses back in the back. And so we're playing and
the show's going okay. And for us at a festival,
that's great. So the show's going okay. And all of
a sudden people start to really feel us. People start
to finally get what we were doing. Like we were funny.
(05:33):
We were vocally really good because like Brandon Ray, Natalie Stovall,
like they were singing. I was finally, I said, oh,
we're turning these festival crowds because they went crazy. And
I look back and Luke was standing backstage, like kind
of on the side and he waved and everybody saw
Luke Bryan. So he started screaming. Luke had come backstage
to watch us, but he was in the view of
everybody that was in the crowd. And so when I
(05:53):
thought they were like feeling us, They weren't. They saw
Luke Bryant back there.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, they were cheering for him.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Looks like, my bad, man. I wouldn't have come back
if I knew everybody could see me.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You're so right, though. I remember that moment. We're like, okay.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Finally.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Guys, we're on.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
They get us after all this time. Okay. So that
is our first artist here. Mike, how did you even
pick these artists to begin with?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Just randomly. Okay. How much thought put into.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
It, Mike?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Put in the old AI generator.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Luke also, as Mike switches to the next picture. A
fun Luke story is he brought Tim Tebow's Heisman Trophy
to my house.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Oh, that's right.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
And I kept it for a day.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
And why did that happen? Is it because you had
a bulldog?
Speaker 1 (06:37):
So, yes, kind of. So what had happened was he
bid in a charity to have that for like three months.
Because it was a Tim Tebow charity and lets people
have it, whatever the date was. And I have a
bulldog and it was Florida and Georgia playing each other.
And he wanted to have, he's a Georgia bulldog. He
(06:57):
wanted to have my bulldog lick Tim Tebow's Heisman.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Love it.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
The peanut butter off of it.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
So you guys put peanut butter on the trophy? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
I hate peanut butter. He did. But Luke had it
brought over to my house like the evening before. So
it stayed at my house for 24 hours. I had
Tim Tebow's Heisman at my house for 24 hours.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Next up.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Taylor Swift. Do you have a Taylor Swift story?
Speaker 2 (07:19):
I do have a Taylor Swift story. And it's one
time she came into our studio. It's the first time
I'd ever seen her. Well, not the first time. Oh,
my gosh. You know what? Forget that story.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Well, we didn't know it. How can we forget it?
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Dude, don't forget it. Here's my big story. My big
Taylor Swift story. And I say it a lot to
like friends or whatever. But when she was 15.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Oh, my God. Uh-oh.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Oh, no. Guys, relax. I was working at a music
entertainment TV station. And one of the guys that worked
there said, hey, guys, will you do me a favor?
I got this artist coming in.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
She's new.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I know her mom. And will you guys just put
three cameras on and just record whatever she's saying? She's
going to sing a couple of songs. I said, not me.
I'm out. I got to do some work. And so
I went up to my office and I'm working on
the keyboard. She starts singing and I go, what is
this sound? This is the worst sound. stuff I've ever
(08:13):
heard in my life. And I went to the studio door,
looked over, and it was Taylor Swift, big hair, had
no idea who she was. The guitar was bigger than
she was. And I closed the door. I'm like, that
was so bad. And that was it. And I was like,
what's her name? Her name's Taylor Swift. Dude, I never
thought twice about it until she was massive. She was
(08:33):
winning all these awards. I'm like, oh my gosh, that's
the girl that came into our studio. And I said,
it was terrible. And you know, who's the number one
Taylor Swift fan ever?
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Me. Freaking love her.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
She's awesome. And when she was 15 years old, I
was like, this is terrible. This is never going to work.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
If we clip that, you'll be murdered.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I know. But I'm being honest. Yeah. I'm being honest.
That's what I thought when I was, you know, I
don't know how old I was, 25, 26. I was like,
this is terrible. Don't like it.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
And it's funny because the guy that booked it was like, guys,
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
It's a favor. You imagine if it was today, we'd
be like, clean the studio up. Taylor's coming.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
It was the first artist that ever had security come
and sweep our studios.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Oh, really? Not with brooms. That's what I thought it
was like to clean it up.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
No, no.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
They're spraying Windex everywhere.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
They came the night before just to make sure that
it was safe. What year was this? Probably 2014. Okay.
It was Red Album right before she moved away.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Oh, was this our studio?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Oh, okay. I thought you meant back in Austin. Did
she ever go to your studio in Austin?
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Amy saw her playing piano in the lobby, but she
was doing country and I was doing pop and hip hop.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
And then you shut the door and you're like, this is.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
The- I never saw her. Amy did see her because
Amy loved Tim McGraw and he was like, hey, I
saw that. That kid who does Tim McGraw out there
playing because she was playing in the lobby. The kid.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
And that's what I'm saying. It was such a like,
who is this kid? And like, this is never going
to work. I don't know what they're trying to do
with this girl.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
My Taylor Swift story that I'd like to tell, I
will not. I will tell a second one.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Okay. You did what I did.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
She is one of the few people, and I would
put Garth and Dolly on the list of Either she
learned it or it is innate in her to make
every single person that she's talking to feel like they're
the only person in the room and they deserve her
full attention because she's giving it to them.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
You're so right.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
There's nobody that I know that has spent any time
with her, even 30 seconds or three minutes, or I've
spent longer than that, that comes away going, ah, she
wasn't very nice or she thought she was too cool.
That's why when those stories would come out and they
would say, well, Taylor Swift was rude. I was like,
there's just no chance.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
There's no way.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
There's three. Again, it's Garth. It was Dolly. And it
was Taylor who had the ability to do that and
make you feel so special, even when it's chaotic around them.
And she was the first young person I saw do that.
And I see it a lot. I mean, I probably
have 10 times I spent time or hung out with Taylor.
(11:17):
And it was every time with every single person. And
it's cool. That's why I would get so irritated when
I would see people trashing her, saying in a meet
and greet. It just isn't true. I would bet any
amount of money that I have that that is not true.
Maybe they interpreted it differently, but she would not do that.
She also, when she was young, as a teenager... I
(11:39):
would hear from people that worked in country music. She
would write thank you cards to every single person when
she would go to the radio station and write, Hey,
thank you for having me. Thank you for having me.
Like so detail oriented. And it's what's made her super
successful now. So that would be my Taylor Swift story
that I'll share.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
There's also the thing too, that keeps going viral of
her in our studio. And they're like, look how bad
he treats her.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh, when you guys are going back and forth.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Yeah. And I don't want to ever shut it down
online because I like the engagement and But no, that's all.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
No.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
I'm just going to– no. That's not what that was.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
No, it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
It wasn't fighting. It wasn't– no.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
And it was cool. That was the first time I'd
seen her since that first time. But it was cool
to have her in there because you're right. She was very–
I felt like she was very comfortable in there. And
the clips I see now, if I had no idea
and if I wasn't in that room, I would probably
think the same thing too.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
If people heard our show talking to each other, because
we just... If you enjoy someone and you know them, you,
as the British would say, take the piss from them.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is that what they say?
Speaker 1 (12:49):
From them? Out of them. To them?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Out of them?
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Out of them? Yeah, you mess with people.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Yeah, you're messing with them. I was trying to do
some British stuff. Because you like them.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Yes, that's exactly it. And it was back and forth.
So that clip pops up about every month and a half.
It's like celebrities being mean to Taylor. And I'm like.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Number one. You guys know nothing.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
You know nothing. Next up, Tim McGraw.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
He's the man. I'm going to let you go first.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
On this one, too. I know you've gone first on
all of them because you're my guy. Oh, thank you.
You sure? I'm going to let you have this one.
I'm going to do some first later. Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
You have this one. Okay. Let me have this one then.
I will tell the story of when my mom came
to one of our iHeartCountry festivals and Tim was playing.
And she, she'd just been like, I got her tickets,
you know, for the, whatever, for the festival. So she
sat in her seats with my sister and she just
was happy at the seats. And I, and she's like,
(13:43):
am I going to be able to see you tonight?
And I said, I don't know, mom, we're kind of
busy back here, but if I get a minute, you
can come down or whatever. And she said, okay, great, great.
And so we did, we had like an hour break
and I said, here, I'm going to come get you,
come backstage. I'll give you a little tour. And so
I took her backstage at the, I think it was
the Irwin Center at the time. And Tim McGraw comes
walking down the hall and my mom, I'm not kidding.
(14:03):
My mom goes, oh my God. She says, oh my God.
And I'm like, this is perfect. I'm like, Tim, he's like,
what's up? He gives me a hug. I said, Tim,
this is my mom. He looks at my mom and goes, ma'am,
happy Mother's Day. Because it was like, I think the
Saturday before Mother's Day. I hope you have a great
Mother's Day. Kisses her on the hand. And my mom
(14:23):
just melted. She's like, oh my gosh, I'm never going
to wash this hand. And then she says, This is
what she tells him. Say hi to Faith for me.
But he was just so cool to stop and say
hi and say hi to my mom and give my
mom a kiss on the hand. Like, he's just awesome.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
That's such a fun story. And also, you got to
look cool in front of your mom.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Oh, for sure. Like, my mom walked away being like, wow,
he knows Tim McGraw. When really, I don't know him
that well. That's really cool.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
So, my Tim McGraw story is going to be something
that was like five seconds total. We were about to
do a television hit together, and they're like, hey, you're
on in 45 seconds. And I've known Tim for a
little bit, fairly well. I mean, we don't go to dinner.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Have you ever?
Speaker 1 (15:15):
No, we haven't gone. So no, that's not that kind
of friend.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
But I do, he'd send baby gifts.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Dude, that was awesome.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah, so it's like not friend level friendship. But almost.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Guys, I saw the gift and it was sitting there
and it was wrapped and it said, from Tim and Faith.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
So, like, I like them and I know them, but
it's not like we hang out. Yeah. But we could
and it wouldn't be weird. I don't know how you
define that.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Do you guys text each other? Like, LSU, dude, cool, crazy.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Not on games and stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
But about like, I don't care, I'll drop it. About
like Kenny and I text.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Dang.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
If something comes up and reminds you of them or something. Yeah,
every once in a while.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Because you heard your song on the radio?
Speaker 1 (15:53):
No, I don't ever do that.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
No, no.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
So there's a lot of stories of that. But I
think mine's going to be, we're about to go on.
And I believe it was ABC. And the guy's like,
all right, 10 seconds. Tim looks at me and goes, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
And without saying anything else, he takes his fingers and
sticks them up my nose and rips out my nose hairs.
Because he's like, I don't know if they didn't catch that.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
He had your back.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
He had my nose hair back.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Or your nose hair back.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
And there's a video of it because somebody happened to
be recording it with us standing there. Maybe they're taking pictures.
Maybe it was Morgan or somebody that recorded the video.
And you just see Tim go, Hey, reaches in my nose.
Cause had he said something out, I thought he was
kidding or maybe I wouldn't have understood. And then we
go on, rips the nose hairs out. And I'm like,
and they're like, all right, you're tearing up. Yeah. They're like,
(16:42):
all right, go. It was like bro looking out for bro.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Yeah, man. Like who does that? And who has the
confidence to rip a nose hair out of somebody's nose?
Speaker 1 (16:53):
And even feels they like you enough to go into
your nose.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Because that's gross.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
It is gross.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
It wasn't for me, but I'm saying I just don't
jump into people.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Oh, here we go.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Look, Eddie, look. This is it. So we're going.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Oh, he gives you a heads up. He says, I'm
going for it. I'm going to pull it. Dude, he
yanked the crap out of that.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
That's really cool.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Funny, huh?
Speaker 2 (17:19):
He had your nose hair back. That's really cool.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Okay. I do love Tim McGraw. I do have a hat, too,
that I wear sometimes. He gave you a hat. It's
a black one. So he wore it during his soul
to soul with Faith all Vegas. And he brought it
to me.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Next up, Reba McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
You can go first.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Because you're the man.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Hang tight. The Bobbycast will be right back. And we're
back on The Bobbycast.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
I have a Reuben McIntyre story that's so good that
I hate. I hate it. So, I was doing stand-up
at the Grand Ole Opry. probably my seventh or eighth appearance.
And Reba was performing after me. And Reba wasn't there yet,
but I hadn't gone on stage yet either. And they said, hey,
there's some traffic. And so if for some reason Reba
(18:21):
can't get here, can you go longer? And I said, sure.
Because the sets at the Opry are eight minutes or
12 minutes, depending what night it was. My set that
night was eight minutes. So I go up and I'm
pretty funny that night. The Opry is a tough crowd
because they didn't come to see me They came to
the Grand Ole Opry. So you really have to be
good to win them over because there's a lot of
(18:42):
people that never even heard of me out there. And
so now I'm doing pretty good. I'm the best, but
getting some good laughs. And they put an ear in
me because they were just letting me know if Reboot
was there or not. And now I'm right near the
end of my set. And they've said nothing. So, I mean,
it's over. If they say nothing, you do your thing.
My theme song they play on the piano when I
go out and come out is– Thank you for being
(19:04):
a friend. Oh, yeah. Golden Girls. Yeah, they play it
on piano. Thank you for being a friend.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
I walk off.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
There's like 30 seconds left on my set. And I
know that because there's a clock that's back there. Like,
as everybody's looking at me back up against the wall,
there's a clock that tells you just what time it is.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
You can have them run a timer on it. And
my set's about over. So I'm about to walk off.
And I guess Reba's here. 30 seconds left.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Did they tell you that in the.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
No, but if they don't say anything, I know it's
clear for me to go.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Got it. And.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
I'm comfortable with the Opry at this point doing standup
because again, it's my seventh or eighth time. First couple
of times, you're just freaked out the whole time. So
I'm like, okay, cool. I guess Reba got here. Never
thought anything about it. About 30 seconds ago. Hey, Reba's
not here. Now they're telling me really close to the end.
And I, in my eight minutes, I'd structured it to
where do the, jokes, got a middle set of jokes,
(19:51):
do my end jokes. My end joke goes back to
my first joke. It's a recall. And then get a,
get a laugh hopefully and get off. Well, I was
into my recall joke, which is the, and.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
I'm like, Oh, that's the end.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
I'm like, Oh crap. And so I finished the recall
joke and they're like, extend, extend, extend. So I'm going, oh, crap.
So then while I'm on, and this is also being
taped for television, I'm like, okay, just go. And I go, hey,
how about you in the front row?
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Oh, no. I know, I know, I know.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
So I do just one quick bit of crowd work
just so I can get my bearings to figure out
what jokes I need to go to. Because I have
other jokes. And so I'm like, what do you do? Oh,
you don't want to tell me? You're in the mob.
This sounds stupid, right?
Speaker 2 (20:40):
The laugh track.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Yeah, yeah. And so do it. And I go, I'm
reset again. Because I was doing about an hour set
at that time. So I found my other jokes that
I thought would work in my head. And I'm doing them.
I'm about to finish that up. And they're like, Reva's
still not here. Oh, man. I think I've been out
there for like 22 minutes.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
You start reading The Great Gatsby?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
It's like, I'm doing more crowd work.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
You behind him.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
Let me guess, Corleone too? So there's... I'm starting to
freak out a little bit. And so Reba's band is there. Okay.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
So then I'm just like... Are they setting up or
they're ready?
Speaker 1 (21:13):
They're already set up. They're ready to go. They're waiting.
I'm starting to do a rat-a-tat-a-tat with a guitar player.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Hey, you know... What's your name? Are you in the mob?
Speaker 1 (21:22):
So finally, they say, okay, okay, Reba's here. She's about
to come out. And again, I just want to say
this one time. I think it's my seventh or eighth time.
And I also hosted the Opry television show for a
long time. And it's always been a dream of mine
to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Do
I deserve it right now? Probably not. But, you know,
I was there all through COVID when no one else
(21:43):
was there. I've probably either done TV or performance now
30 times or so. And I see Reba come out,
and she's like, you want it? And I'm like, oh,
my God, Reba's asking me to be a member of
the Opry. She goes, I'm here. It's time. And I
thought she had already said– Do you want in?
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Uh-huh.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
And in my heart, I'm going, oh my God, I'm
getting invited to be a member of the Opry. But
I'm not sure yet. So play it cool. Play it cool.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Play it cool.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
And I'm like, Raven McIntyre, everybody. And she comes up
and I'm ready for her to say whatever she's going
to say to like invite me to be a member.
And she's like, I got it from here, hon. Pushed
my shoulder. Off I went.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Oh, no. She was basically saying like, I'm ready to
go on stage.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
She was like, I'm here.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Dude, that's terrible.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
She was saying, hey, I finally hear you're good. Sorry
about that.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Introduce me and get out of here.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Yeah, yeah. Like, you can go now because I know
you're up there just like vamping, killing time.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Yes, yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
But in my mind, I had determined she was inviting
me to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
This is all going through in your head.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
In my head, I was starting to go, when do
I cry?
Speaker 2 (22:45):
You start thinking like, wow, everybody that's been a member
of the Grand Ole Opry. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
History's playing in my head.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yes, all these musicians from back in the day.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Hank's senior songs are playing in the theme. So, yeah. So,
I didn't get invited. I extended for a long time.
And it was just funny because that's my favorite Reba story.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
That's really funny.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Well, I'm glad.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
It worked out.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Not really, because I'm still not a member.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
No, you're not a member, but she got to play
her set.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
I do love Reba, though.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Yeah, she's awesome. Yeah, she is.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
What she says, she means, and that's pretty rare.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Like quickly for me is just like when we first
moved to Nashville, we got invited to go– well, you
did and I tagged along. But it was a tornado
I think that hit Oklahoma, right?
Speaker 1 (23:32):
We flew over to Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yeah, and they did a benefit for the– the victims
of the tornado. And, and she was there. I had
no idea who was going to be there. I like,
we just walked in the building and I remember seeing
her for the first time and thinking like, Oh my gosh,
this is Reba. Like I've never really gotten starstruck like that,
but it was Reba. And I remember thinking over and over,
(23:54):
like how beautiful she was. And like, wow, her hair
is so red. I remember just staring and being like,
her hair is so red. She's so pretty. Her smile. Like,
She's so happy all the time. It was just one
of those moments where I had never seen her in person,
so I just took it all in that, I don't know,
that 10 minutes we were with her.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Who would you say... Give me a list of three
people you've been starstruck by since we've been here.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Okay. Taylor Swift. Reba.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Ugh. Man.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Top three. It's going to be close, either Garth or George.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
But you're doing two. When you do that crap, that
means both of them.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
You just get four.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
I know.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
I know. I'm going to go Garth. Starstruck, dude, when
we first met Garth.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
I'm going to go.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Garth.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
It's Garth.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
It's Garth.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
And he gave me his guitar that he played on.
And we have a whole episode where we're doing all
the signed guitars that I have. We shot it from
my house. And I tell the story about Garth coming
into play. And then he leaves that guitar there. And
he's like, no, it's for you. And he signs it.
I still have it.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
It's the one he played on our show.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
It's amazing. So you have Garth, one?
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Yeah. I don't want to cheat.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
So you're going to say three?
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Yeah, just three. I'm going to stop it at three. Garth,
Steven Tyler.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
That was amazing. Because he is like a cartoon character.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
He's not real. He's not real. You never think you're
going to see a human... The lead singer of Aerosmith,
Steven Tyler in human form.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
No. With all the layers of clothing that he has
on and the jewelry and the hair.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Yes. And Aerosmith has been at it since the late 70s.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
And he was so generous even when we weren't on
the air and telling stories about they were touring and
on the front of their tour bus was Freddie Mercury
and how he took a bonk and That was really cool.
And then I won't say we were friends, but we
definitely got to know each other a little bit because
he had time here. He did the Post Malone before
Post Malone did. He came to town and stayed. Like
(26:01):
he lived here.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Oh, Steven Tyler. I thought you were going to your
next one. I'm like, who is that? Yes, he did.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
No, Steven Tyler like embraced the community and the songwriters.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
He was here. Yeah. He had a house here and everything.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
And then I was at Disney World and we saw
each other.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Did he recognize you? Do you know the story? No,
tell me.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
I was working on American Idol. There's rarely a day
off where I was in LA because everything was shot
live or recorded then live the next day. There was
never a day in between. It happened to be a
late record week into a live show with a day gap.
Never would I have a day off in LA. I
had a day off in LA and they said, you know,
you can go to Disneyland for free and we'll give
(26:38):
you like.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
A fast pass or whatever. Escort. Oh, that's even better.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
Fast pass. I went down in a fast pass.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Do you have one of those guys with the hats
or the tour people?
Speaker 1 (26:49):
And so I said, I've never been. They said, cool,
you should go. I said, well, I'm here by myself.
They said, you should go. I did. And so I
went to Disneyland and they met me. And because I
worked for Disney, they sent me the super guide. We
went underground, went to all the right, every line. Sometimes
we didn't even cut in line. They just, we just
like rose up at the front of the line under stuff.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
How do we get here? It's the craziest thing.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
I know. I know. And so we're walking out of
that space ride where you're in it. It's like a
movie theater and it's a big screen and it like
does the.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Magic Mountain?
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Who knows, dude.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Okay. Probably. The log ride or something. You said space ride.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Yeah, but it's like space. You're like looking at stuff.
I don't know, man. It's on screen. Who gives a crap?
So we finish. Who cares? Everybody's leaving this one way
and they're like, no, we go this way. And I'm
walking down and I'm like underground. We come out and
there's another guide walking with some lady and another woman
and kid or something. So it's two ladies and a woman.
And then, uh, I hear that. And then one of
(27:46):
those ladies is actually Steven Tyler. And he's like, Bobby,
he recognized me.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
No way. That's amazing. It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
We didn't stay together or anything.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Yeah, you just passed each other and said hi.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Saw Steven Tyler.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
On the VIP tour.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Yeah, it was amazing. He's like, who you with? Nobody.
I'm alone because I'm stupid and have no friends.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
He's like, where is your family?
Speaker 1 (28:10):
I'm going to go Garth, Steven Tyler. Those are good.
And Dolly.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Oh, yeah. Yeah, Dolly is pretty amazing.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Because she came in a room and in the best
way possible, took all the energy out of the room.
And if you wanted some back, you could have it.
But she knew that you were excited to see her.
She knew how famous she was. Of course. And not
in a bad way or an arrogant way. And she
was going to make sure you enjoyed the time with her. Yeah.
(28:41):
And that was really cool.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
That is really, really cool.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Dolly would be three.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
And that's it. You're done. No more.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Dang it. Okay.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
But if you would have picked one more, who would
have been?
Speaker 1 (28:54):
I don't want to do it because I don't want
to hold it because I want to yell at you
again for doing it and then you'll be a hypocrite.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
All right, fair enough.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
Hang tight. The Bobbycast will be right back. And we're
back on The Bobbycast.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
All right, next up, Morgan Wallen.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Oh, dang.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
I'll go. He came over and we did a Bobbycast
at the house. I remember talking to him about his
hair because it was still.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
A little mullety. Yeah, he had the first real mullet.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
And I was like, what's up with the mullet? Well,
the first this generation.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
This generation, which had kids doing the mullet.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
And he's a guy, you know, I wanted to be
a character. If you drew me, I wanted you to
be able to draw me without people seeing my face.
You'd know who it was.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
He said that.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
And I was like, no, it's kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
And then we were just talking about music and he,
people didn't know he played piano. So we, after we
finished the podcast, we walked over to the house. We
would do the Bobby cast at my house, but in
a different building on the property. We walked over in
the house and he just sat at the piano and
played for a while, just me and him.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
No way. Yeah. Your main house? Uh-huh. That's cool.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
He just played the piano for a while. And I
was like, oh, he can do stuff.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
What was he playing? Like classical music? Or was he
playing like Sand in My Boots?
Speaker 1 (30:12):
The song was... I went....
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Stop. He played the beat song.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
He played one of his songs, Spin You Around. Yeah,
Spin You Around.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
You were there, Mike? Yeah. Oh, wow. That's cool.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
We walked over, yeah. Wow. That's really cool. It was
literally just us three. Because... This operation used to be
just me and Mike.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Yeah. Yeah. And the fact that you guys were just
at your house. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Well, we recorded there, but we just walked over to
the house and he played. And yeah, that was what's up.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
That's a really cool story. You? Mine is I went
to go to a NASCAR race and I was with
my family, my wife. And then I think one of
my boys was there. And we got pit passes. And
I was like, that's kind of cool. NASCAR in Nashville,
pit passes. So we were headed towards like, I guess,
(30:59):
Denny Hamlin's pit area. And so we're walking and there's
a group of people walking towards me. And out of nowhere,
it's Morgan Wallen. He looks at me and goes, what's up, dude?
Gives me dabs. We hug. And I said, dude, have
a good one. We'll see you. And then he walked off.
(31:20):
I'm like, did he know me? Or like, why did
that just happen? Like, I didn't know if he recognized
me or.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Had you ever met him before?
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Like a few times. Yeah. We had some like remote
stuff in Austin together or whatever. But like... I don't know.
He'd been in the studio before as a guest.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Do you think in your heart of hearts he confused
you for someone else?
Speaker 2 (31:42):
I don't know. I think he did because I don't
know him that well. But, dude, it was so cool
because he acted like, bro, where have you been? And
gave me a hug and everything. And my wife was like,
you know Morgan Wallen? Like that? Like, yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
For sure he thought you were Eric Estrada, for sure.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
He thought I was Fez. Love that 70s show, dude. Okay.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
You having fun yet?
Speaker 2 (32:10):
I'm having a blast.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Next up, Miranda Lambert. So I think my best Miranda story,
all of our good ones, because we don't have bad ones,
but I would say Miranda is a tough one to crack.
Until you get to know her.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
But she doesn't crack easy. Like she kind of comes
in and, man, I don't really know you guys. I'm
going to do my job and I'm going to get
out of here. Yeah. Like tight circle. Once you know her,
she's so kind. But it took me a while and
it took us doing animal stuff together, charity stuff.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Something that she loves.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah. And so I remember we were backstage at the
ACMs and Reba was hosting and I was JV host.
Wasn't the host, but.
I was on all the time. And I was sometimes
front stage, sometimes backstage. And I would talk to artists during.
And Miranda was coming up. And we were going to talk.
And they came up. And they said, hey, talk to
(33:09):
Miranda about her new record and some other song. And
she was standing next to me. And I was like,
all right, all right, all right. Person walked off. I said, hey,
I'm happy to do that. But would you rather just
talk about your animals? And she was like, oh, my God, yes,
I would. She's like, you're going to– they just told you–
I was like, they just say stuff. I think they
forget what they say, like 15, because we didn't have
(33:31):
a prompter. And so we went on and talked about
her charity and animals. It was on another platform and
it was a couple minutes long. And then from that point,
we'd already been pretty cool. From that point, it's just
been awesome with her. And so I'm glad that she
was able to see me be defiant. Yeah. Because otherwise,
she's just doing a thing. But she is what she
(33:53):
says she is when it comes to animals and how
much she cares about them and loves them. That's my
favorite Miranda story was just having that moment, having her
see me be a bit defiant, not in a bad way.
And then us just doing what she wanted to do.
And then because of that, she's been like so open
to everything.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
And that's true. Cause she is, I mean, she's, she's
kind of a badass. Like she, she does things in
Miranda's way. Like, and she, and you're right. Like I'd
say in the past few years, she comes in the
studio and it's been a while since she's been in
our studio, but she's, When she comes in, she's very
different than it was early on. So that's really cool
to see, too. Do you remember when we first moved here,
we saw Miranda and Blake play together?
Speaker 1 (34:31):
No. Are you sure I was there?
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yeah, we were on the boat. We were on that steamboat.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Oh, yeah, we went on that steamboat willy.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Steamboat willy, dude. And I think they got divorced the
year after that. But it was crazy to even remember
that they were married. I forget that they were married.
And the fact that we got to see them play
together when they were married.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
That was pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Yeah. Yeah, Miranda is. She's a BA for sure.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
She's awesome, dude. She's so cool.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Next up, Brooks and Dunn.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Oh, this is awesome. You go. No, you, I did.
You have so many stories. You go. I mean, I
think the coolest story for me is that when my
dad died, my mom was, you know, I mean, she just,
she didn't work or anything. So her and my dad
just hung out all the time. Like they were inseparable.
That's all they, it was just them two. So when
he died, she was really like lonely and she would come.
(35:22):
She'd hang out with my sister. She lived by my sister.
But then she'd come visit us and stay with us
for about three weeks because she had nothing else to do.
And you got us hooked up with tickets to go
meet Brooks and Dunn at their secret show. Yeah, that's right.
And to me, that was so cool that we went.
And I didn't tell my mom that we were going
(35:43):
to meet them. I just said, we're going to go
to a concert. Let's just go and forget everything and
just have fun. Let's go to a concert. I think
it was on a weeknight. And it was their secret show.
And then I took her backstage and she got to
meet both of them. And I remember they came out
and they're like, where's Eddie's mom? Where's Eddie's mom? That's
so cool. I guess two stories about my mom. But
I don't know. I love my mom so much. And
(36:04):
to me, when these guys that my mom listens to,
like my mom loves country music. She loves Brooks and Dunn.
And they're so sweet to her. And they were so
nice to her and took pictures, multiple pictures. I'm talking, dude,
I'm talking like spent 10 minutes with my mom talking
to her. They didn't have to do any of that.
And they're just so cool. And then they played and
(36:26):
they acted like they're 27 years old.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeah. And they still sound so good.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
So much energy that night.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
I have some great ones. I'm going to try to
limit this to one real good one and two small ones.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Go ahead.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
My wife and I got married five plus years or
so ago. And Ronnie is from Arkansas, but spent a
lot of time in Oklahoma and Texas, but he's born
in Arkansas. And so we've always had that in common.
And for a charity thing, once Ronnie came out, he's
a photographer and he took pictures. I dressed in a
(37:02):
full cowboy. I got this picture in my office. I'm
full cowboy.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
You look like a bull rider, dude.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Yeah, I look like Marlboro man.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Urkel.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Meets Urkel. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
But Ronnie was a really good photographer. So we did
this shoot together. And we had known each other a
little bit, but not much. And we started to be
a little friendly. And Ronnie brought his wife to go
to dinner with my wife and myself. And I didn't
know Ronnie's wife at the time. And he didn't know
Caitlin at all. So Ronnie's from Arkansas. Yeah. Caitlin is
(37:39):
from Oklahoma. Ronnie's wife is from Oklahoma. So they're hitting
it off like crazy.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
Yeah, I bet.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
And Ronnie and I are both, well, we're different. So
we work well together. You do. We're different the same.
We don't have a lot to say, and we're both
pretty sarcastic and to the point. And it just works
with both of us. And so we're at dinner. Real quick.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
What's it like? Are people, are you in a dining
room with a bunch of people? Great question.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
So we go to, we let them pick it and
they pick Kane Prime. So Ronnie and his wife are
sitting across and I'm on the left, my wife's here.
And obviously it's freaking Ronnie Dunn, lead singer of Brooks
and Dunn. So someone comes up to the table and
it's like, hey, can we get a picture? And he was,
you mind? There was no food out there yet. And
so obviously he's not going to say no. And he's
(38:32):
about to go, no. And they don't realize it's Ronnie Dunn.
So they give Ronnie the camera to take a picture
of me in the person.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
That's hilarious. Hilarious. I bet you love that.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Top 10 moment of my life.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
Yeah, I bet.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
And so we laugh about that. We then become close
just as a couple. And I would say Caitlin and Janine,
Ronnie's wife, talk more than Ronnie and I do because
Ronnie and I are the same way. You know, we're
not going to be texting each other. How's your day going?
And so we became close and we were getting married.
(39:10):
And my wife and I had listened to Neon Moon
so many times because we're both just big Brooks and
Dunn fans. And we became friends with them. And I
was like, hey, Ron, you want to sing at our wedding?
And he was like, no. He was like, yeah, just
tell me what to sing. I'll sing whatever you want.
We're like, will you do Neon Moon? He goes, yeah, yeah,
consider it done. And so. at our wedding, and there's
(39:31):
a video, he sang Neon Moon.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
That's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
There's a picture of him singing and me and my
wife and you and my sister are dancing.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Just us four.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
I need to see that picture.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Yeah, I have it. Somewhere.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
That's so cool.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
But yeah, he sang at the wedding.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
Dude, I mean, who can say they had Roddy Dunn
sing at their wedding?
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Neon Moon.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Neon Moon. Was that your first dance?
Speaker 1 (40:00):
No, our first dance was... A song from Jesse and
the Rippers. Also the Beach Boys.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
But it was performed by Dan and Shay at our wedding.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Yeah. Listen to that. That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
They played forever. But yeah, Ronnie did that. And I
think he played another song too, but they dropped a
big neon moon that we didn't know was coming as
like a special gift. But yeah, Ronnie sang two songs
at our wedding.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
That's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
And so I love them. The picture is funny. The
wedding is just so memorable. And then the other one
I'll give you is, this is a message from him yesterday.
Because he's just insane. Okay. From Ronnie Dunn. At Ronnie Dunn,
(40:42):
all one word. They have a show when we're recording this.
They have a show this weekend. He goes, hey, you
bringing that hot wife of yours and coming to the show?
You better be there or I ain't playing your song.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
He said, I'm in Evansville doing production rehearsal. See you
guys Saturday.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Remember when I asked you, like, hey, could my mom
meet with him? His response was like, is she hot?
That's so funny, dude.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
I have a closer relationship with Ronnie by far than Kix.
I like Kix a lot. I just have had not
a lot of time to spend with him. Kix is
super funny.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Kix is awesome.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
But I just haven't. And people warn me about Ronnie.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
I remember this.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Just before they would even come in and go like, hey,
Kix is great. Ronnie's a tough one.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
And that's so funny because I remember thinking like, oh, gosh, like,
how's this going to go? Because you're not good with
tough ones. You know what?
Speaker 1 (41:37):
I'll meet your tough.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so
I was always just kind of on edge as the
photographer in the room or the videographer. I was just like, oh, man,
how's this going to go? But, dude, it was the opposite.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
So that's cool.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Love them, obviously. Love him. And he sang at my wedding. Like,
what are you going to say?
Speaker 2 (41:55):
And you know, Kix Brooks, that's the first time I
rode in a private plane. Do you remember that?
Speaker 1 (42:00):
We flew back from Oklahoma. Yeah. Whenever you're talking about
that Oklahoma show with Reba.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
Kix and so Clarence, their manager, who I now am
super close with, they were like, do you guys want
to fly back with us? And so we flew back
with Kix and Clarence. I forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Dude, that was amazing. That was so cool to me.
Because I just remember sitting there and one of the
coolest things he did was I'd never been on a
private plane before, and he's sitting in front of me,
and he just reaches between his legs under the seat
and busts out a cooler of beer, and I'm like,
that is so cool. Like, this is rock star right here.
(42:34):
And I think he said, you want one?
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Did you have one?
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Yeah, I did. Of course I did.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
And then he offered me heroin.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Yeah, that was later.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
And I did it, and it was awesome. All right,
two more.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
Hang tight. The Bobbycast will be right back. And we're
back on the Bobbycast.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
Kenneth Chesney.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Man. I'll let you go. I don't know if I
have one. I don't know if I have an out
of the studio moment with Kenny Chesney.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
It doesn't have to be out of the studio. It
can just be your favorite memory. Do you have a
Kenny Chesney memory?
Speaker 2 (43:18):
I think No, I mean, not really.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
I mean... He does stay away from here a lot. Yes.
So it's hard to have a relationship because he's usually
in the water somewhere. It doesn't matter. He just submerged
in something.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
It's weird whenever he does come to the studio and
I just listen to him talk.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
For example, just so everybody knows, as we're doing this episode,
he was in studio today with us.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
So it's fresh on my mind. When he talks about anything...
Even just the sound of his voice and what he's wearing,
I just immediately go to the beach in my mind.
It's a weird thing where I just picture us being
at the beach on an island in Key West, wherever.
(44:06):
I don't know what it is about him. He just screams.
which is a weird thing. He's just good at that.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
It's his music.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
I know, but it's just weird that like when Garth
comes in, I don't think of a river, you know,
or the rodeo.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
Like I don't, but with Kenny. But look though, like
even his press pictures, the one we're looking at here,
it's water. That's his, that's his brand.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
But you just hear the sound of his voice talk.
Even when he's just like, well, Bobby, it takes me
to no shoes. I don't know. It's a weird state
of mind thing that happens whenever I, when he's in
the room.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
It's an odd thing with Kenny because he doesn't live,
live here. He definitely lives here and has a house here,
but he's not here a lot. And he's a single
guy and he's got houses on beaches and loves islands.
And so I definitely have not spent as much personal
time around him as some of the others. We do
have a running bit, even when he texts me, like, Hey,
(45:02):
you come into the, like, for example, he's done two
rounds at Vegas and the sphere. And he's like, Hey,
which show are you coming to? And I'm like, I
haven't decided yet. I'll let you know. I never go.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
So you keep them with... You never say deal or anything?
Speaker 1 (45:14):
He knows I'm not coming.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
You guys are so weird.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
He absolutely knows I'm not coming.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
Will you ever take him up on one?
Speaker 1 (45:22):
If I am there, I would go. It's not about him.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Because you would love to see Kenny at the Sphere.
You would love to see that.
Speaker 1 (45:30):
That'd be amazing.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
I don't think I've ever seen a Kenny concert. I've
been with him playing acoustic and stuff before. We've done
theaters together where Like he's played and I've hosted things
with him or like sat beside him when we did
like live stuff. So I've heard him play. I've never
been to like a big, big, large Kenny Chesney show.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
I think I went to one when we first moved
here at Nissan. Was it cool?
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Yeah. Have you guys ever been to one, Brandon? Been
to Kenny Chesney? Big show? You guys both?
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Mike, you too? I've been there, yeah. Where was yours, Mike?
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Here in Nissan.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Dan and Shay opened for him.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
Same one then.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
Are they what you think they are? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
Just a big.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
And I'm not even a huge Kenny Chesney fan, but
it was fun. Really? Really. Everybody smiling.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
Everyone's having a good time.
Speaker 1 (46:08):
He does have so many bangers. And I tell him,
even to his face, I don't like Beach Kenny.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
You do tell him. And he's like, fair.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
I say, I like Emo Kenny. Like, I love Emo Kenny.
It's not that I like Emo Kenny more than Beach Kenny. Like,
I love Emo Kenny more than most other artists, period.
He has the slow song bangers. And so I think
my favorite Kenny bit is he keeps inviting me to things.
And I keep saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll let
(46:34):
you know. He knows I'm never going to let him know.
And I know he's going to keep inviting me. And
it's just a running bit.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Yeah, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
That I'm never going to go to anything because I
don't want to travel. I'm good. But yeah, it's an
odd one because he's really not around a lot. But
he does really great interviews with me. I feel like
he doesn't do a lot of long form press. And
I'm lucky that I feel like he trusts me enough
to just sit and not worry and be protected.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
You know, there's something I do notice with him, too,
is I think you make him genuinely laugh. Well, that's nice. Like,
you know, there are some artists that, yeah, they just
don't laugh. They're hard. Like you say, they're hard to crack.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
Or they laugh when it's ever not that funny because
they want to beat you. Right.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
Kenny, I think you actually make him laugh. Like you'll
say something and he'll laugh and then you'll move on
to something else. He's still laughing at what you said.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
I think he's such a big star that some people
treat him like such a big star that he doesn't
get treated like a normal dude. And he's a dude.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
Yeah. He's a dude. Loves sports. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
Sports guy. Freaking just wants to go swimming. Yeah. You know,
he's drinking beer. He's a dude.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
All that.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
And so I treat him like a dude.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
So, yeah, that's the Kenny. All right, let's do one
more here.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
Oh. Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
It's one of my favorite artists ever, but I don't
like my story, but I'll have to tell the story.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Tell it.
Speaker 1 (47:55):
I'll end on it.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Well, I mean, it's kind of my story, too.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
You can't have my story. I mean. Do you want
me to just tell it?
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Yeah, just tell it.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
Kacey Musgraves is up on the screen now. One of
my favorite artists of all time. I keep her same trailer,
different part, vinyl. in my studio so it can visually
be seen as I do the Bobby cast because in
that room, I keep a bunch of records that have
meant a lot to me over time. Couldn't be a
bigger fan. When we moved here to Nashville, I was one,
(48:32):
a bit of a bull in a China shop, but two,
I felt attacked all the time by everybody because I
was so different than what anyone was doing here. And
so if anybody said anything to me or said anything
about me that I thought wasn't nice or they're taking
a shot at me, it was destroy time. It's just
(48:55):
rooted in insecurity. I should have just let it go,
but I didn't. And anybody and everybody, if you say
something mean to me or if I just even misinterpret it,
I'm going to melt you. And I don't love that version,
but it existed for a bunch of years. And so
I was doing an interview with Casey. She'd already done
the show once. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
And it was, it was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (49:18):
It's fine. She even like wrote on the black, on
the dry erase board, follow your arrow, did some artwork.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
And we were doing some remotes and she came in
and I'm sure I was tired and I'm sure I
was pissed at something else from that time because every
day just felt like people were just dropping boulders on me.
And she came in and she is not someone that
would walk in a room and And you would go
a bit like Miranda. You got to kind of get
in because she's not going to be very, she's not
(49:45):
gonna be super generous with energy.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
And so she came in and I didn't feel like
she was very nice to me. And you know what?
I probably wasn't very nice back and it was a
bad mix. And I went on the show the next
day and played clips of it. And I was like,
this is terrible. This is terrible. She's terrible. Everything's terrible.
This sucks. You're mean. And so I did it and
I felt that way. Looking back, I think we, We
(50:09):
both were probably a bit prickly at that time. You know,
she doesn't even want to do interviews ever.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
No, she doesn't. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (50:15):
So she's probably been forced to do it. Yeah. And
here I am. I feel like I'm disrespected every time
I turn a corner and I feel like this is
disrespect to me.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
So we're just bam. So that happens. And I still
loved her music, but it was instant. We don't talk
to each other. She's not coming to the show. I
don't want to see her. I don't want to have
her do the show. I got no interest in her whatsoever.
I listen to her music. I love it, but that's fine.
I can take the art from the artist. I then
(50:45):
started to feel really bad about it because it was
my fault because I was probably just having a bad
day and she was just being herself. And I took
out on her what I felt like I was taking
out on everybody in this town.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
And you know what?
Speaker 1 (50:58):
The town freaking deserved it. The whole town can suck
it still because they all treated me like garbage around
this place. And so I felt bad. And as I
got older and more mature and more actually more secure
and where I didn't feel like I had to prove
everything to everyone.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
How many years was that?
Speaker 1 (51:15):
Oh, did it yesterday?
Speaker 2 (51:16):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:17):
It took that long. I was finally, I woke up
yesterday morning and I was like, Oh, I'm secure. And
I remember I, I felt real bad about it. And I,
I'd reached out to her team. I was like, Hey,
my bad. I'm sorry. I'm not, I don't need her
to come up or anything. Just pass it along it.
I wish I'd have been a little more mature in
that situation. But never had seen her anywhere. Never had
(51:39):
talked with her. And that night of the CMAs, when
I came and Sharna and I came and we presented
when I was on Dancing with the Stars. We flew
back for like one day to present at the CMAs.
There was an after party at a hotel. And I
normally don't do any party or after party or post
(52:00):
after party.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
You didn't go to that.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
But I had Sharna with me.
Speaker 2 (52:03):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (52:04):
And she was my dance partner. She's from LA. She'd
never been around any country music. I was like, let's
go to this.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
Party.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
You can see some people and see what it's like.
I remember there was a big donut wall. It was awesome.
It was a big wall full of donuts.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
Wow, that's cool. You could walk up and have a donut.
That's worth it alone.
Speaker 1 (52:17):
It was crazy. I think it was the coolest thing
I've ever seen at a party.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
You're like, this is what I've always missed out on?
Speaker 1 (52:21):
And we're walking into this massive hotel after party and
I see Casey. And I said, hey, Casey. And she
stopped and we talked in the parking lot. I said, hey,
I'm really sorry about that. I know that's been 10
years ago, but... I was an idiot and a jerk.
And I was so insecure that I took that out
on you. So I apologize fully. I don't even like
that person anymore. And she was like, don't think anything
(52:44):
else about it, man. She's like, we're so good.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
All good. Nothing.
Speaker 1 (52:49):
And then that was it. I mean, not that was it. Like,
she just ran away.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
But we had that moment. And I was like, all right, cool.
And so we just didn't... We kind of got into
the flow of everybody going in and went in.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (53:02):
So that was... I haven't seen her since, but I
was happy I was able to see her in person
and go, hey, hand up. That's on me. And I
know who I was then. And I took out on
you what I was holding against everybody else in this
town because I felt like I was constantly being attacked.
And I attacked everybody back. And I felt that way
from you. And it was unfair because you weren't like that.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
I've never heard that story. Like, I've known you for
a long time. Never heard that story.
Speaker 1 (53:26):
I just made it up.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
Never really happened. Dude, I was there for all that
beginning stuff. What do you remember about it? Everything you said,
I remember thinking it's unfair because you don't we didn't
really know a lot of artists personally. So the impression
that we got from them was literally the first 10,
15 seconds of them entering the room. And when she
(53:52):
walked in that area, she was very I don't want
to be here. And like you, you don't know if
that's because of us. You don't know if that's for
whatever reason, but I remember she dropped her bag, kind
of like, ugh, drop my bag, sit down. Let's do
this interview. So I remember that. And then, of course,
you took it the way you took it. So I
(54:13):
was with you the whole time, kind of just like, yeah,
that's kind of what I saw. Like, that's what happened.
I didn't know that you had a conversation with her later.
Never knew that.
Speaker 1 (54:25):
Just happened to see her.
Speaker 2 (54:26):
I remember there was a moment. I don't know. I
would say maybe a few months after that, maybe even
a year. After what? After that remote. Okay. The whatever
interview incident thing. But I remember some of her people
were trying to get you guys to talk.
Speaker 1 (54:43):
They were trying to force it and neither one of
us wanted it to be forced.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Correct. Now I'm thinking like, did I imagine that?
Speaker 1 (54:49):
No. Okay. Neither one of us wanted anything fake.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
Okay. I love that.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
I didn't.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:57):
You know me.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Yeah, of course.
Speaker 1 (54:58):
I won't fake anything. And also her. And so neither
one of us wanted anything faked. And so we just
didn't do it. Because unless it was like organically a situation,
we were good. It was like we were missing each other.
But yeah, Soaring Parking Lot worked out wonderfully.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
I have no ill feelings toward anybody but myself about that.
So not her at all. And she's one of my
favorite artists of all time. I don't know. If you
asked her about me, she'd probably say, who?
Speaker 2 (55:27):
Oh, that guy.
Speaker 1 (55:28):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
The guy from the parking lot.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
So I'm sure it's much bigger from... But yeah, that's
what's up.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
Wow. Well, thanks to that. I don't really have a
lot of stories because I never saw her. I know.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Ever.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
Ever. Uh-oh.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
Did you enjoy our game?
Speaker 2 (55:44):
