You're someone who has had the extremes of highest high
to lowest of worth, highest success to the darkest of grief.
And you have walked this line and like we were
talking earlier in this interview, you have experienced all of it,
all of it, all of it, like like you said,
the biggest song on Earth to losing a child. It's
like literally the spectrum of you is unreal. What is happiness? Now?

How do you have happiness from having it all to
losing it all? Like? What is happiness? And how do
you define it? And how do you how would you
suggest someone who's in the throes of thinking that this
life is just too much to bear, it's brutal, can't
handle it, like not equipped, never gonna get a good card.
Life has really like turn its back on me. I

can't see the force for the trees. Like how do
you take steps to getting on the other side? And
how do you because there is another side and you're
the person who's gotten to the other side. So how
do you encourage someone in those seasons to look for happiness?
And what happiness really is? I'm telling I mean, I know,
I'm I know, I'm redundant, but I can't truly say

it enough. After all I've been through, um, you know,
tragedy and success. I mean there there really is. There's
nothing compared to knowing Jesus, to knowing Christ, Jesus, my
Lord and Savior. That there there's nothing compared to that
infinite value is some verse in the New Testament, says I.

I yeah, I mean, after after all that I've been through.
If you said, if you said Walker in your life,
your life is a house, it's burning down, you gotta go.
You gotta go inside, and you gotta grab one thing
that you that you could save and you could take

with you. Caroline. I know this sounds crazy, but I
would take losing my child over any any valuable, any
fancy like, any money, any success, any happiness, any celebration,
any show, any applause. I would grab that experience and

and wrap my arms around it and save it from
the fire, because it was that brokenness that just softened
my heart and it is it is, it's that it's
the only thing in my life that that made me
realize I just need a savior for not not from
(02:44):
any illness, not from any cancer, not to bring my
child back to life, not to help my marriage, not
to help me have a hit, not to help my
kids win a baseball game, not to get me that car,
not to save my dad's life. I needed the Lord
Jesus to die for all the ickiness in myself, to
(03:08):
rescue me from me. And that's it. I mean, that
is my only I mean, I can't say it enough.
And I wish you know, people, I get it if
you're like, bro, you know, shut up about Jesus or
or whatever. But because I was that guy, I mean,
I was that guy. I was that guy before Oakley.
(03:32):
I was that guy before Oh I could well I could.
You know, I could do anything I had, you know,
I I quit drinking, Um, I had, you know, look
at my family. I mean I um, I thought I
was invincible, you know, I thought I could shoulder anything.
And it was at that point that I couldn't. I

couldn't do it. I mean I couldn't do it another day.
I couldn't. You know my why? You know how much
I love Lanny. I could make her smile, you know,
and that was that that was like what's wrong with me?
You know what's wrong with her? You know? It was
like she's a smilingest person on the planet. I mean, God,
every even when she's mad at me, I can make

her smiles. She can be furious and and you know,
I can say these nuts or something and she'll laugh,
you know, and and and um so it would. You know.
That's all I can say to people is I'm telling you,
happiness isn't lying around on this earth. You can stop
digging for it. You can. You can, you know what,

you know what I'm saying. You can. You can stop
back and like God's like some genie that's gonna give
you some how their balloon full of gold and then
all of a sudden, then you're gonna be a firre.
You know, he loves you. He loves you right now
in whatever circuit. If you're if you're if you're in
the nastiest and the nastiest circumstance, if you lost a kid,
if you're doing a drug, if you're if you're victim

of this Nashville industry and you're trying so hard to matter.
He loves you right now, you know. And he wants
you to not struggle and fight and wrestle with that meaninglessness,
and he wants you just to accept his salvation. That
he offers through through his son, you know, who came
(05:23):
to dwell and knows all this stuff, you know, walk
around on Earth with political crap going on, and and
and and people struggling and adultery and and and you
know what I mean. It's just like, I don't know,
I know, I'm not making sense with that. To me,
that's happiness, freedom in Christ from from all this stuff,

but mainly freedom from my myself, the voices and myself,
the the lies um that I tell myself. Sometimes I
needed salvation from that and without the loss of a child,
I'm not sure. And honestly, I just think that's a
small part of of losing Oakley. I don't. I don't.
(06:09):
I think God did a billion things, um beautiful things
with that. And at the same time, I still I
still kind of wish she hadn't have died, you know.
I wish I could have come to Christ in a
less sad way. But that you know, it always is
the big moment that breaks us open because you can't
(06:30):
know the depth of the love if you don't know
the depths of the pain. Like I've heard this many times,
it's like you can only match the high to the
low that you've experienced. You know, it's like you didn't
know this complete freedom and God in Christ if you
hadn't been completely devastated and broken, broken and couldn't get
without him, you know. Yeah. So yeah, I mean that's
(06:50):
that's to me. The happiness is just is knowing him,
and honestly, I mean not yeah, it's a joy, it's
it's you know happy, This is kind of fleeting. It's
you ever see that movie Pursuit of Happy? I love
that movie with like that's. Yeah, it's so true. The
it's like they knew that. It's never not a pursuit um,
(07:14):
you know. And we're we're so funny. We're like, uh,
we're like my little puppy with a laser light. Like
if happiness runs by, we're like, oh, there's no there,
you know. We're just we're just like, oh, he looks
happy and he has that, so you know, maybe if
I get that. Um. But yeah, so that no, But
(07:37):
then you get to the other side and you live
the life that you lived, and now you're just I
think you are You're going to be the most effective
you've ever been in this season of your life because
you just are being what you're supposed to be, which
is divinely the soul that you came here with. Nothing
Like you're so past the egos stuff that sucks us
all in. I mean, I'm not saying, like you said,

you're not a human ess, but like you're so beyond
it that now your message is just so clean, it's
so clear. It's just it's just so clean and clear.
