Wellington retailers are feeling the effects of soaring crime numbers - Wellington Mornings with Nick Mills

New figures show retail crime skyrocketed by 39 percent last year - with 292 incidents being reported a day, up from 140 back in 2018.

Numbers have soared in Canterbury and South Auckland - rising 53 and 63-percent respectively.

Wellington businesses are also feeling the pressure.

Lower Hutt hair salon owner, Christine, says owning a shop in the area is becoming really unsafe.
